WAIT SNAPE IS THE ONE WHO CURSED GEORGE WEASLEYS EAR OFF?! I didn’t remember that but oh my god reading that gif me like a bus and my emotions are bruised by the impact. I get that he had to act as a spy, but the fact he would use a spell like that on a literal teenager??? One he’s known since George was 11? Even if he did think it was Harry, how is that any better? He could have used any other spell that wouldn’t cause permanent damage and still been believed as a spy! Gosh, that’s just so painful to think about making the decision to cast a spell like that which could have been deadly, as we’ve already seen evidenced by Harry/Draco’s scene. What if he had killed him? Was it just a lucky miss that he DIDNT kill him with the spell? That seems to have hit a little too close for comfort if he wasn’t aiming to cause major damage or death. Great, now I need to reread the book so I can be angry at Snapes decisions all over again. (Pirating it ofc, I’m not giving JKR a single cent)

If you’re asking for my opinion, rising to and staying in the position Snape held can’t be achieved without getting blood on your hands. By then he’s basically Voldemorts right hand man. Imagine the things he’s seeing and having to do while also knowing that he’s executing the plan that’s going to kill the son of the only person he ever cared about as sacrifice.

I do believe that he’s basically shut off at that point. He can’t afford to care about collateral damage even if he could. The only thing that matters is that Harry survives because it’s not the time yet. I’ll give him this one, he acted to save Remus despite the circumstances.

Though it can also be argued that he only did it because Remus’ Harry could’ve been the real one. My own opinion again, he owed Remus for actively trying to ruin his life by exposing him for years and then doing it.

okay so I was watching a video about videos and decided to write about writing (specifically, fanfic)

Typically I don't share my thoughts on fandom as a subculture and how it's changed because I don't have the stomach for the kind of things that can happen when one posts their opinions on social media. But I'm gonna give it a go today because I watched this:

You don't have to watch it, I'll tell you the thing that got me: it was about how on YouTube, people are likely to be fans of specific channels, and if you subscribe to one, you could probably, if asked, discuss what you like about that channel/creator with others. But the way TikTok's feed works (turning you into a passive consumer of an endless stream of short videos), it's more difficult to differentiate who the creators are, even when you subscribe to them. You're more likely to just say, "I'm a fan of TikTok" (...or "I'm addicted to TikTok"). This is evidenced by the fact that at a recent VidCon, TikTokers who had millions of views and hundreds of thousands of subscribers faced empty lines at the meet-and-greets, because their content was just part of a blur of content their subscribers passively put their eyeballs on every day.

And I had a thought: Has AO3 done this for fanfic? Of course AO3's content cannot be passively consumed; you have to enter search terms and use filters to find what you're looking for. But once you have entered such a search, you could well be faced with thousands of results, which you begin consuming by opening tab after tab after tab. If you were not in fandom before 2012, I cannot stress how ludicrous this amount of fanfiction is. Before AO3, unless you were in a MASSIVE fandom (like HP or LOTR), you eagerly awaited the arrival of new fics because there just weren't that many -- and even if you were in a massive fandom, if you shipped one of the less popular pairings (or preferred Gen), you still could not necessarily count on even one new fic a day that was to your tastes.

And in those days when fics were fewer and farther between, and when fandoms were more siloed, you got to know fanfic authors. You recognized their styles. When someone posted a new fic, you were excited because you knew what you could expect based on what you already enjoyed about that author's talents and inclinations. In a small fandom I was in long ago, where only about ten people wrote fic, we once sat around and brainstormed which popular music act's vibe corresponded with which each author's style! (I was The Clash.)

Compare that to now, where many readers in fandom have the opportunity to just click-read-click-read-click-read, not just as a reward at the end of a long day, but on the bus or anywhere. I don't think it's a coincidence that fics get fewer comments than they used to, and there's far less discussion of individual authors. There's no incentive to linger on something even if you enjoyed it, when the next fic is waiting in another tab.

Now perhaps it's better that the structure of fanfic culture has changed such that we have less potential for BNF drama. But it also means that whenever I see newcomers to a fandom asking for recs, most of the responses are "Have you read [the fic with the most kudos and comments on AO3]?" It's not just that this response is a bit superfluous, as the newcomer has probably already sorted the AO3 results by kudos/comments -- to me it also indicates that folks get so much fanfic from The Fanfic Website and so little community from The De Facto Fandom Platforms that it becomes difficult to remember individual fics, what you enjoyed about them, or how an individual author's style might make them a better match for a certain reader. (Yes, I am aware that AO3 has histories/bookmarks for people to refer back to, but when one accumulates 1000 bookmarks and then someone asks for a rec, most likely the bookmark holder is only going to remember, off the top of their head, That One Crazy Outlier Fic That The Entire Fandom Lost Their Shit About Seven Years Ago.)

I dunno, this is all I got in the way of thoughts. I'm not saying I want to go back to the way things were 10 or 20 years ago, but I sure do wish I could a-la-carte it a little, you know?

Unpopular opinion but Harry Potter franchise will not suddenly stop existing or being a relevant part of popculture if you bully some fanfiction writers on tumblr.

We could start working towards reducing the damage JKR caused by being popular person with a platform but people would rather do bare minimum of telling random HP fans to kys instead of doing any real work.

I've got a multitude of posts about this already. The unfortunate reality is that JK Rowling will always earn income from Harry Potter. When something is and was popular on the magnitude that Harry Potter is and was its impossible to completely kill it, but what we can do is metaphorically kill the creator.

(I must absolutely stress I mean that metaphorically.)

I've already detailed it in my other posts, but the goal should be to withdraw support until the only people still funding and platforming her are bigots like herself. Let her rot in her own community and only have a voice amongst people who only care about her because she parrots their rhetoric.

De-platform Harry Potter. Pirate it instead of paying for it. Downvote it and review bomb it on all platforms. Kill the cash cow it became.

If we can bully a multi-billion dollar company into changing the CGI of a fucking hedgehog we can force Warner Brothers to owe JK Rowling the bare minimum.

Reflection Introduction Post

Reflection is a supernatural horror novel inspired by the works of classic horror authors such as HP Lovecraft and Edgar Allen Poe with my personal twists. I am in the process of writing the 2nd(ish) draft. It was previously a fantasy/scifi horror, and so in this draft I am changing major elements to it.

Blurb: Twins Lucretia and Andrew were born away from society in their ancestral house, the Liraz Manor, hidden in the forests of north eastern America. They were raised to believe in a religion of the old times, worshipping the Goddess Ietuesiouhn and being taught their only purpose was to die for Her. Together the two endure the torturous conditions of the Manor, until Andrew begins to stray from the path and drags his obedient and faithful sister with him.

Main Characters:

Lucretia Liraz: Eldest twin. Lucretia is tall, muscular, and pale as a ghost. She developed white stripes in her black hair from stress starting at a young age. Devote to her Goddess, Lucretia spends her days studying scripture and withstanding her parents abuse.

Andrew Liraz: Youngest twin. Andrew was unexpected to his parents, and subsequently they treat him the worst. He is tall, thin, and tan, with pitch dark eyes. As if trying to be everything his sister is not, Andrew slacks off and fights back when his parents try to harm him.

Two very dangerous misadventures in this Astarion honor run: in the room just across from Withers's crypt, I detect and disarm all traps except the main one on the sarcophagus. I'm 99% sure it's fine, since I think that one just fires off grease, but not the fireball. All good; I'll just trigger the grease, we'll all fall prone, ha ha ha.

I am very mistaken.

Secondly, I know on Honor Mode the owlbear summons a mate, and I'm scared to death of fighting both of them as we're only level three. I persuade what's-his-name's siblings to come help us out, and even still it's the closest call of the run so far. The sister dies (fine with me), Karlach dies, Wyll goes down but stabilizes--and for the first time in any of my games, Gale dies before I find out about his orb, triggering the mirror image death-failsafe conversation and his body's necrotic aura.

There's a moment at the end of the fight where Astarion is the only one standing toe to toe with the owlbear father. He has twelve hitpoints. The owlbear father has three. (The brother is up a hill engaged with the owlbear cub and only has two hitpoints himself from the repeated Tiny Claws attacks.)

It's honor mode, so I have one shot at this. I can't get advantage (no allies in melee, deep water prevents moving away enough to hide, won't survive an opportunity attack). It's just a straight hit. Three hitpoints. We can do this.

Astarion misses. I used both bonus actions at the top of the round trying to get more advantageous position and can't even take a healing potion. He's still standing in Gale's necrotic aura at the end of his turn because I'm trapped by opportunity attacks and takes two damage. Down to 10 hp.

I'm hovering my mouse over "end task" on the Task Manager. It's honor mode; I have one save. If all four party members go down, that save is toast and the run is over. But...what if...?

One more round. Just in case. I'm feeling insane and lucky.

The owlbear father attacks--and misses. It rolled a three on the die.

Astarion lands the next blow. Owlbear father finally down, I'm pumping my fists, the owlbear cub de-aggros and starts eating mom, the brother cries over his sister getting mauled to death and Astarion tells him to find somewhere else to be. That cutscene ends--and I discover the whole time, Astarion's been taking a d4 of necrotic damage from Gale's STUPID AURA EVERY SIX SECONDS. He has two hit points left and my heart tries to jump out of my throat on a spring.

I manage to get out of the aura, down a bunch of potions, and get everyone up in time to do Gale's pouch puzzle (my first time! and wasn't THAT a new stressful experience on its own!). Not even the Anders fight was that difficult this go-round. Whew!

So, if anyone else is like me and wants to reread Harry Potter, but either can't find their old books (I got mine during the big craze when they were still releasing, well before the author started spouting terf bullshit. But neither myself nor my mum are physically well enough to go looking for them), or want to get into the series without supporting the author, I found a link to a pdf file of the books.

As much as I wish this was a H.P Lovecraft situation, where we can still enjoy the writing despite the author being a not-so-nice person, I don't really see this being the case with HP. My views on this are as follows, J.K Rowling still makes money off of the Harry Potter franchise and as we've seen, her views are kind of...yikes. So I personally will stick to reading fanfiction, and pirating the source material rather than give Rowling any more money (remember, I bought the books years ago, back at the height of the HP craze when new books were being written and the movies were in production).

Because honestly. the characters and world are interesting. I've started reading HP fanfiction as a way to de-stress and unwind because I remember enough of the original books and movies to not be fandom blind and enjoy all the hard work other fanfic writers put into their works...and its free, fun, and somewhat nostalgic getting back into a series I dropped out of by the time I was writing my own fanfiction for other things I enjoyed.

Also...kinda fun feeling like I'm sticking it to J.K Rowling by pirating her books. Sure she already got my money years ago, but my stance on HP hasn't changed when i started hearing about some of the stuff Rowling has said or posted on social media, and by that point I had already lost interest in the series anyway.

With all that said, if you want to get merch, buy the books, play Hogwarts Legacy, that's fine. This is all just my own belief and how I'm going to be enjoying the HP series, by pirating the heck out of the books and binge reading fanfiction, I know full well the want to just enjoy something without thinking too hard about it or anyone involved in said thing's creation.

We started searching only after our dinner and after an hr, we stopped cos it late and dark already.

Next day went JB w my friends and I would say we were lucky cos there wasn't any Q. We all had breakfast at home and was too full to eat lunch, so we went to collect our tufting art then head to a cafe for brunch. We decided to have a shared fund, so it's easier to pay for food which we will be sharing.

I'm too innocent seriously 😆 I saw my gallery has bro n Fang de pic and tot they shared the pic which they took w/o me. Until next day bro purposely asked me to send their pic. They actually took my hp to spam pics and rubbish but I didn't notice 😅

Was a little stress cos I almost didn't have enough money to use. But tbh, it's sufficient if we didn't anyhow spent. Meaning, we can finish what we ordered or buy. Bro said she didn't like to ration her money when overseas, moreover its JB. Lucky I managed to persuade her that I'm on tight budget and sing 2 hrs K instead of 3.

Am a little worried on d budget if we really travel to country which currency is higher.

Overall am happy w this trip cos d massage was shiok and I visited the pasar malam.
