god I’ve become a retail therapy girly
#I’ve had a shit few days and my solution to that has been to order things online#I just ordered some nail polish (in my defence it was on sale and came with a free additional bottle)#and like. really I work so that I can afford to do shit like this (I still live at home so my bills are mostly car and school related)#and I like getting things that bring me joy! shopping is fun!#but I also feel guilty buying shit for myself#especially this close to Christmas (even though I know nobody is buying this nail polish for me so if I’m gonna get it I have to buy it)#idk. Part of me knows that even if I like. Waited until my next pay check so I didn’t feel as silly about it#I still would have wanted those polishes and would have bought them anyway#bc I’ve already been considering them#so better to get them cheaper and get a bonus item#but still. even though I am in my era of fiscal irresponsibility I am self aware enough to feel bad about it#I should start going to therapy again instead of just buying shit#that would be better#and cheaper#however. that requires me to talk about my feelings! and buying nail polish means that I get happiness and cool looking nails!

What is this feeling?(hint, it’s not loathing)
First things first: I am working on the superhero au! I'm about 3k words in the first chapter. But I found @thelowlysatsuma 's prompt-thingy, and well, I have the impulse control of a chicken nugget.
Fandom: Thomas Sanders/Sanders Sides
Pairings: Prinxiety, Logicality if you squint
Summary: Even since Virgil moved into his new apartment, he's heard his next-door neighbor sing Broadway songs. Then, he does the unspeakable- he joins in on his neighbor's duet.
Word Count: 1,559
Trigger Warnings: Cursing
Virgil threw the door to his apartment open, tossing off his bag as he shut the door behind him. His apartment still smelled like cinnamon, a nod to the previous owner. Virgil has just moved into the apartment a few weeks back, and the smell still hadn’t faded.
Oh well. It could have been worse.
Virgil picked up the bag from the floor, taking out the new paintbrushes he’d bought, along with a few new watercolors. Things were looking up for him, honestly- he was so glad he took up his brother's offer.
Virgil's older brother and his newly wedded husband had opened up their own bookstore and needed at least one other employee to help run the place before opening. Virgil had agreed to take the position and had moved cross country to New York City to help them open. The place had become a booming success (Virgil swore it was because his brother-in-law sold his baked goods at the store along with the books), and that led Virgil to be able to replace some of his older supplies and buy some new ones as well.
The dark-haired boy slipped off his work-shirt and settled into an old sweatshirt that was already decorated with paint stains. Brushing off old papers and a bottle of black nail polish (which reminded him that he needed to repaint his chipping nails) from his desk, Virgil grabbed a fresh piece of paper and started sketching his latest commission.
Then he heard the singing.
Even though Virgil had lived in the apartment for a few weeks now, he still hadn’t met any other his neighbors. However, the owner of the apartment on his left had made his presence known. Virgil hadn’t met him face-to-face, but he’d heard the man sing. At least once a day, Virgil’s neighbor burst into song, singing Broadway show tunes as he did whatever he was doing, and the apartment walls didn’t do much to mute the sound. Virgil would have complained, but his neighbor was a crazy talented singer. Who was Virgil to deny himself a free concert?
Today, the man was singing a song Virgil knew well. His senior year in high school, the school performed the show Wicked, and the president of the drama club had practically begged Virgil to paint the sets. Virgil had agreed and often painted while the cast was practicing. The songs had ingrained themselves into Virgil's head, and he could remember them word for word to this day.
Including "What is this Feeling?" which was what his neighbor was belting out.
The man was currently singing, "Unusually and exceedingly peculiar
And altogether quite impossible to describe..."
As the other man held out Galinda's line, Virgil couldn't help himself. He sang Elphaba's response, "Blonde."
Virgil heard a sharp intake of breath on the other side of the wall. Oh shit, had Virgil ruined the other man's song? Then, he heard the man continue, "What is this Feeling, So sudden and new?"
Well, Virgil was obligated now. He dropped his pencil and looked at the wall between him and his surprise new duet partner. "I felt the moment, I laid eyes on you."
"My pulse is rushing!"
"My head is reeling!"
"My face is flushing!"
"What is this feeling?" Virgil's voice mixed with his neighbor's, and to Virgil's surprise, they actually sounded good together.
"Fervid as a Flame, Does it have a name?
Yes! Loathing! Unadulterated Loathing!"
"For your face!" Virgil could practically hear the smile in the other's voice.
"Your voice." Virgil couldn't help but let a grin of his own form on his face as he responses
"Your clothing!" Virgil joined back in, singing along to his partner's "Let's just say, I loathe it all!"
The two continued the song, Virgil singing Elphaba's part and his neighbor singing Galinda's. During the part that required it, they sang in unison on the student's part. There was something magical about the moment, randomly bursting into song like they were actually in a Broadway show themselves.
Then the magic was shattered.
It was right before the climax of the song, and Virgil and his duet partner both went for the higher harmony, Virgil surprising himself by his ability to hit the note. Abruptly, his neighbor stopped singing, and yelled, "Galinda absolutely sings the top harmony on that you bastard!"
Honestly, Virgil was so startled by the sudden change of noise, he didn't even register himself screaming back, "In your dreams asshat!"
Virgil heard loud footsteps echoing from his neighbor's apartment. He sighed, leaning back in his chair. That had been surprisingly fun, but it was over now. Virgil was about to go back to the commission when he heard knocking booming from his door.
Virgil sighed, pushing himself out of his chair. He opened his door, surprised to see a guy bout his age standing there. Just as Virgil was going to ask who the hell the guy was, the stranger waved his phone around, saying, “I have the lyric video pulled up right here, let me in so I can prove you wrong!”
Oh. So he was Virgil neighbor/mystery duet partner.
Virgil, feeling a weird mix of annoyance, self-righteousness, and amusement, shot back, “Come in then, and prepare to eat your words.”
The two of them sat down at Virgil's tiny kitchen table. Virgil's neighbor set his phone between them. As he started the video, both he and Virgil stared at the phone like it was the only thing that mattered. Virgil's apartment was filled with "What is this feeling" for the second time that day.
Both boys kept their attention on the sound, waiting for the exact line in the song. When it came, Virgil triumphantly shouted, "Ha! It's not Galinda, suck it!"
His neighbor crossed his arms. "Well, Elphaba doesn't sing it either so you can eat my ass."
Virgil snorted. "It was the fucking ensemble. We're both dumbasses."
For some reason, that sent the boy across from him to giggles, and soon enough, Virgil was laughing alongside him.
When he finally stopped, Virgil took a moment to study his neighbor. The first thing he noticed was that the guy was freaking blond; the irony was making Virgil want to start laughing again. His neighbor had soft green eyes, and he was definitely wearing eyeliner. And possibly lipgloss, but Virgil was going to resist temptation and avoid staring at the other's lips. The boy's honey skin was dotted with freckles, and he had a pencil thrown half-hazardly behind his ear. A loose red sweatshirt hung off his right shoulder, revealing what Virgil assumed was a tattoo peeking out from under the fabric.
In short, the guy was really fucking hot.
While Virgil was looking over the guy, it seemed the other was doing the same, a faint red brushing against his cheeks. "You know, I never got your name."
"I'm Virgil, you are?"
"The name's Roman." The boy drummed his fingers on the table, displaying his red painted nails. "Now, Virgil... I think there's a three o'clock showing of Wicked this Friday."
Virgil arched an eyebrow and prayed his cheeks didn't heat up, "Are you asking me on a date?"
"I mean, yeah, you're pretty cute and you gotta be an interesting person if you randomly join into a duet, and I'm probably overstepping because I have no idea if you're single or gay, but hey, gotta risk it for the biscuit, right?"
Virgil stared at him and then burst into laughter. The other boy crossed his arms, looking mildly embarrassed. Virgil took a shaky breath, attempting to stop laughing long enough to respond. “How is it humanly possible to talk that fast?"
Roman huffed, "I talk as fast as I think."
"Clearly. But lucky for you, I'm both free on Friday and extremely gay."
Roman visibly brightened; he gave Virgil a smile that could have powered the entirety of New York. "Is that your way of saying yes?"
Virgil shrugged, “My brother says I need to get out more, and luckily for me, a really hot boy just rolled in and asked me out, so yeah, why not?"
The blond continued to beam, leaning over the table and grabbing Virgil's hand. He flinched at the sudden contact, but the other had warm hands, much warmer than Virgil’s own, so Virgil didn't pull away. He was simply stealing Romans heat, that was all.
Then, Virgil almost choked because Roman pulled his hand up to his lips and kissed it like he was a prince out of a fairytale. Virgil's ears flamed as the other boy dropped his hand. "It's settled then. I'll come around at two on Friday?"
By some miracle, Virgil was able to keep himself put together. "Sounds good, Prince Charming."
Wait a hot second, what did he just say?
Roman laughed, but Virgil caught the red on his cheeks becoming more vibrant. He stood, stretching, and grinned at Virgil. "Alright then, see you in two days, My Dark-Eyed Beauty."
And with that, Virgil was alone in his apartment, the door slowly swinging shut. He honestly couldn't move; he just stared down at his hand, at the faint kiss printed there. (It seemed Roman was indeed wearing lip gloss).
"Dark-Eyed Beauty? Nice reference." Virgil muttered, before reaching for his phone. His fingers flew, typing a familiar number. It took two rings for the line to connect. "Lo, holy shit, you aren't going to fucking believe this."
(i highkey want to write a sequel because a) Wicked date!!! sounds adorable, emily write that down. b) cute married couple logicality??? and c) purely so I can describe Virgil the way I described Roman-)

What Are Meta Tags?
Let’s talk about meta tags — what they are, why they matter, and how to do them better.
First things first — what made you click on this article to read it?
Maybe the title caught your eye, or perhaps it was the short blurb you saw.
You might have clicked simply because this article comes from a source you trust.
If you found this article via a search engine, though, there’s a good chance you found and clicked this article because of meta tags.
Meta tags are the foundation of SEO, and the first thing you’ll find yourself setting up when building a web page.
Without meta tags, you can’t reach readers organically.
It doesn’t take much time to generate meta tags, but it’s more important than you might think.
That’s because 93% of all online experiences begin with a search engine.
This is why so many online marketers are so focused on getting SEO right.
Organic search traffic is the holy grail of SEO, so it can’t be ignored.
Your content needs to be readable and appealing to users on search engines.
There’s a very specific syntax needed.
It’s similar to how bookstores and libraries organize their archives of books — and that’s what meta tags are, essentially.
What are Meta Tags?
Meta tags are a type of HTML tag that provides search engines with information about a website page.
Let’s take a look at the basic elements.
The title and description tags make up almost the entire entry.
If not for these meta tags, all you’d see in Google SERPs would be my URL.
Title and description tags are the two most-used tags for SEO purposes, but SEO isn’t the only part of digital marketing.
Advanced digital marketing requires the use of even more tags that improve page rank and overall user experience.
Just like this search result, you’ll soon find out that these tags control how your entire digital presence is viewed and navigated.
Machines can read URLs just fine. If I wrote for machines, my website would look like this:
Google prioritizes certain tags because they provide context for people.
I built my website for people as well, so it looks like this:
This polish is what marketing is all about.
In this blog post, we will explore meta tags and see how they affect your overall digital marketing efforts.
While simple, the devil is in the details, and every detail counts.
How Meta Tags Affect Brand Image and Click-Through Rates
You absolutely can judge a book by its cover. It’s what covers are designed for.
Your title and meta description tag create the cover for your web page. They’re your first impression on most visitors.
It’s not just about search engines, but how we view the Internet.
Reddit is a basic link-aggregation site that takes away all the bells and whistles.
Reddit depends on the title and image to entice conversations and clicks.
Using meta tags correctly is like using the correct format for a business email.
Sure, you can put whatever you like out there, but there’s a level of professionalism that’s expected at some point.
Even Amazon will only give you a picture, title, and short description to make your point.
Think of these tags as your elevator pitch.
You’re given about as much space as a Tweet to sell your entire brand and product.
Which means you need to nail it.
You can’t just call in this detail and polish everything else. If you do, nobody will ever see the rest of what you polished.
We already know how meta tags affect SEO, but that’s not the only element.
Meta tags will make your email marketing and marketing automation efforts easier by providing information for emailed links.
Tags are a crucial element that determines what my automated social media posts look like.
When other bloggers, YouTubers, and social media influencers (and micro-influencers) share your content, tags make it easier.
Think of meta tags as the packaging for your product.
If your packaging isn’t spot-on, nobody will ever buy your product, no matter how great it is!
So what are some best practices to implement for tags?
Meta Tag Best Practices
There are a TON of different HTML tags that can be used on a web page. We’re only going to focus on a handful of significant tags.
We’ll start with the one that might have brought you here today.
1. Title Tags
It’s not technically a meta tag, but it shows up in the header and is used as one.
As of July 2017, the character limits for title tags in Google search results are 78 on mobile devices and 70 on a desktop.
However, that doesn’t necessarily mean you should use all those characters, and 60 is the generally recommended limit.
Long-tail keywords make a difference.
Here are the top meta titles in the SERPs for “How to make content marketing effective.”
By adding the year, we get an entirely new set of results for “how to make content marketing effective 2017.”
Some users will want basic information, while others will want the most current.
By adjusting our title tag, we can affect which of these searches we rank for.
Ultimately, the goal is to hit both, but that’s not always feasible.
Make sure your keyword is in your title, or you’ll find your articles buried in search results.
For example, when I search for the “best tacos in Tucson,” some restaurants are on page 10 below, even Del Taco.
That’s a wasted opportunity for that taco capital of the country!
These small businesses could greatly improve their search results, sales, and ROI by simply adding “best tacos in Tucson” to their title tags.
Here’s a sample of the HTML required for a title tag located in your header.
<head>
<title>The Best Title Example I Could Come Up With</title>
</head>
In WordPress, it’s as easy as giving your page a title.
You really can’t miss it.
That’s all there is to it!
2. Image Tags
Like title tags, Image tags aren’t labeled “meta.”
But they’re clearly used by search engines, link aggregators, and other sites to identify your site.
There are two image descriptions actually crammed into one tag.
Here’s what the HTML code looks like.
<img src=“image.jpg” alt=“image description” title=“image tooltip”>
Both the alt and title tags should be defined for the best experience.
The title displays on your screen when you hover your cursor over it.
The alt text displays when the image can’t be rendered (or is spoken to the blind and visually impaired).
When uploading an image to WordPress, you’ll be prompted to enter the title, caption, alt text, and description.
The more fields you fill out (even if you use the same information), the more searchable your images become.
Anywhere from 20-60% of all Google traffic goes to sites with well-optimized graphics.
Why wouldn’t you want to be included?
It’s also a matter of ADA website compliance.
There are approximately 58,200 people with some level of visual impairment per million in the U.S. alone.
That’s a huge segment of the population that wouldn’t have a great user experience without alt image tags.
Optimize your images for search engines and users.
3. Description Meta Tags
A meta description tag gives you a chance to provide an overview of the page’s content.
They’re limited to around 160 characters and aren’t directly tied to Google’s search algorithms at all!
Once again, the reason you need description tags is to improve the user experience.
Description tags encourage click-throughs.
Here’s what the HTML looks like:
<head> <meta name=”description” content=”This is an example of the text that will show up in search results. Read on to learn more about description tags.”> </head>
Without a meta description, Google will default to whatever preview sentence it feels best encompasses the content.
This isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
This post doesn’t have a meta description (I rarely use them), and it ranks well.
Of course, my blogs are filled with relevant content in short, sweet sentences. Most of them would work as descriptions on their own.
Still, there’s no harm in adding additional information to make your content more searchable.
4. Robots Noindex and Nofollow Meta Tags
Robot meta tags aren’t always necessary.
By default, all of the pages and links you create on your website are indexed as ‘follow’ by search bots and web crawlers.
Whenever you want to redirect them, you’ll need a robot meta tag.
Here’s the noindex HTML code:
<html><head> <meta name=”robots” content=”noindex” /> (…) </head>
This would be within the header and indicate this page doesn’t need to be indexed.
It’s useful for syndicated and duplicate content that your customers/readers could use, but you don’t want credit in search indexes.
Here’s the HTML for a robot nofollow.
<meta name=”robots” content=”nofollow”>
This is used for links you don’t necessarily want to endorse.
For example, readers leaving links in my comments aren’t exactly endorsed by me, so a nofollow tag above the comments section keeps my site clean for bots.
Here’s a great infographic on when and how to use nofollow tags.
Now we get to one of the most controversial meta tags.
5. Keyword Meta Tags
Keyword tags aren’t used by search algorithms to determine search ranking.
Here’s what the HTML looks like:
<meta name=”keywords” content=”HTML, CSS, XML, JavaScript”>
I coach my SEO clients to ignore keyword tags because they don’t affect SEO.
That doesn’t necessarily make them useless, however. They’re especially useful in WordPress.
Keyword tags and categories can help Google determine which page on your site should rank for a search.
They also create a page in WordPress that provides one more indexed page.
This means that, while your blog posts are focused on long-tail keywords, your tag and category pages have feeds covering the shorter keywords.
Categories can be used for the URL format, providing one more keyword to the page address.
This is accomplished under Settings – Permalinks in WordPress.
Adding this format provides context to your content.
Google loves context for search results!
Keywords also provide a big-picture overview of how many pages you have for each keyword.
You can use them to help plan your editorial calendar.
6. Viewport tags
You don’t spend much time thinking about viewports, but they’re especially important in today’s mobile-first world of search.
On mobile devices, pages are shown in a popup window called a viewport that extends past the device’s border.
Here’s an illustration of what I’m talking about.
Developers can set the viewport size to increase mobile usability.
WordPress users can check this tag to learn this information for their templates.
But you probably didn’t know that unless you’re already a web developer.
Since Google increasingly focuses on mobile-friendly websites, this meta tag could mean the difference between success and mobile failure.
Now that you have a basic understanding of meta tags and why they’re important, I’ll show you some of my favorite tools for manipulating them.
Free Tools to Add and Check Your Meta Tags
Don’t worry if this all sounds overwhelming — there are tons of tools to make it easy to get meta tags right. Here are two of my favorites.
Yoast SEO Plugin for WordPress
Yoast is a powerful SEO plugin for WordPress and one of the most-downloaded SEO and meta tags tools.
With Yoast, all of the pages and posts you publish have back-end options to increase social sharing, optimize SEO, update tags, and other metadata.
With Yoast installed on your WordPress site, a few clicks and a few seconds of your time are all it takes to add meta-tagging to your process.
Yoast also allows you to enter a focus keyword that doesn’t get added to the meta tags, allowing the back-end program to analyze your post.
BuzzStream Meta Tag Extractor
If you need a quick chart of the metadata that’s being used by your competition, BuzzStream’s Meta Tag Extractor is a sleek and simple solution.
Copy and paste a list of URLs, and you’ll be presented with the meta tag information.
There’s even an option to download as a CSV file so that you can scrape large lists quickly.
It’s a quick and easy way to organize this data when you need it.
This free online tool does its job without all the bells and whistles.
Less Popular (But Still Useful!) Meta Tags
So to be fully transparent, here’s a chart of HTML meta tags.
An author meta tag can be used to tell search engines who wrote a piece of content.
Authors have been used in the past for search results, but it’s not a factor anymore. However, you might use author tags if you run a multi-author blog.
WordPress does add this information to blogs when multiple users are contributing content.
It’s more a badge of honor for bloggers than anything else.
Most of the rest define parameters that should already be controlled on a server level.
While I ignored these meta tags, it doesn’t mean you have to. Feel free to add whatever information you’d like.
It doesn’t help search rankings, but it doesn’t hurt them, either.
Conclusion
Meta tags are a basic part of HTML — and can impact SEO.
Back in the early days of the internet, they were a signaling factor for search engines to understand what content is on a page.
The internet (and our relationship with it) has evolved exponentially since then.
Contextual search, AI digital assistants, and mobile devices are changing the way we view content.
Search engines are incentivized to provide the best search results possible, so meta tags are less important.
However, some, such as the titles and meta descriptions, are more important than ever before.
While less metadata is used, it’s still the first impression you’ll make on both robots and people.
What do your website’s meta tags say about you?

<meta name=”robots” content=”nofollow”>
<meta name=”keywords” content=”HTML, CSS, XML, JavaScript”>

Day 1: Hollow Knight
Hollow Knight
The game I couldn’t stop talking about in 2018
I couldn’t tell you my criteria for games that attract me. I don’t think I’m too off the norm in my preferences. I rarely buy hyper-niche games or games with divided opinions. I am into tons of first party Nintendo and Sony games with a handful of well-regarded third-party games.
Before the Nintendo Switch came out, I projected a stigma to almost every indie game. Shovel Knight was the one exception, but it was also so well reviewed, and talked about so much that I was able to dissociate it from the ‘indie game’ tag. I also never really got into gaming on my laptop. I have Steam and a ton of games, but I just never got around to them. Even though they were on my laptop, and therefore portable, it wasn’t portable enough for me to want to play the games and just finish them up. They were indie games, and therefore lower priority.
Once I bought my switch though, I suddenly realized that, past the few big titles like Zelda and Mario, there were quite a few lulls between releases. But opening the eShop and following the Nintendo Directs, I saw a ton of indie games that was interested in but just didn’t want to play them on the PC. With the Switch though, I wanted more things to play wherever I want with the control scheme and level of portability that works for me.
Jump to E3 2018, Nintendo has their usual E3 Nintendo Direct, and there I see a game that just hits me with its unique art style and a description that was exactly the kind of game I was looking for. Doubly so, the game was available on the eShop on the same day. I knew of the game and saw screenshots, but I hadn’t really gone out of my way to check out videos or reviews of the game…
And I am so glad I didn’t.
Hollow Knight is something special. It has this world that tells a story through its art alone and has so much in its world to offer at every turn. It is not a game for everyone to play, but I do think it’s a game worth experiencing in some manner. If you’re going to watch a Let’s Play, please do, preferably from someone who takes their time to talk to NPCs and explore the nooks and crannies of the world.
The World
Right away, you’re shown a cutscene that gives a vague idea of where the Knight (the main character is given no official name) is headed: an quiet world with broken bug-like architecture, about as barren as the Knights eyes, strung with lampposts guiding his way. The intro is very reminiscent of a Castlevania game, where little context is given other than “something bad is definitely go on in that location over there”.
Littered throughout the world are NPCs and enemies that stray from the typical design you might expect if this was a human-filled world. You still have your annoying fly bat and zombie monsters, but the art style makes them stand out amongst other games. The game has several biomes from an abandoned underground city to a hidden bee colony. The world doesn’t stay dark for long, as you enter the different biomes, you’ll notice their personalities in the small details and varying colour palettes. This was a great reason for why this game really latched onto me. Having a depressing world with a depressing look for too long is tiring, and Hollow Knight manages to keep the tone of the world and its story without resorting to using drab colours. In a game where you may end up needing to backtrack quite a bit, it helped that each room was visually memorable, so I didn’t need to keep resorting to the map to help me navigate around.
The world itself has tons to say, but so do the characters. You’ll be encountering several NPC’s along your way each with personalities and dialogue that adds to the charm of the world. You’ll find an old shaman lady whose hums and murmurs can be heard as you approach her home. It’s the little details like the sounds and animations that show how much love the developers put into every aspect of the game.
Gameplay
If you have played a 2D Castlevania (or one of the many Metroidvania’s out there), you won’t find anything too new here. An action platformer with a few special abilities and stat augmentations are what you can expect. Hollow Knight uses a collectable charm system that will add or affect certain gameplay mechanics, and charms can either be bought through normal gameplay progress, bought through shops, or as a reward for exploring the world. The currency (geos) can be contained through several means, however much like the Dark Souls games, dying results in losing all your collected Geos. You can retrieve them by returning to the room which you died and defeating an easily defeated ghost version of yourself. I curbed my frustration of this system by keeping track of items I wanted to purchase and going back to get them as soon as I had enough. Save for a few items, most things can be purchased without really needing to farm for too long.
You will probably want to stock up on charms and do a bit of farming though because Hollow Knight comes in with an above average difficulty. Traversing the world can have its difficult sections, typically more so with platforming rather than enemies, but the bosses will really test your reflexes. There are almost 30 bosses (some optional), not including optional re-fights with higher difficulties. My experience with most boss fights was dying over and over until I could learn how to dodge each attack. It was enjoyable reaching a new boss since they tended to be fairly unique each time, but I also didn’t mind re-fighting after losing several times because it was so rewarding learning the pattern and feeling my butt clench as I barely dodged an attack I couldn’t moments before.
Holding down a button will allow you to heal yourself at the risk of being an immobile target and using up a meter that could be used for special attacks. Often, unless it was a requirement to progress through the world, I ended up not using the special attacks. It probably would have made the game easier, but I really enjoyed the feel of using the default sword (called a Nail in this game) weapon. Your attacks can be affected by the charms, increasing its damage or reach, making mechanics like pogoing off an enemy much easier and much more enjoyable. Every hit on an enemy count and the animations and visual flair that go into giving and taking damage feel good as the player.
Generally getting around can be a bit bothersome if you haven’t mastered how to easily defeat or dodge enemies. This is especially true when you’re having troubles with a boss as having to retread an area as you may end up dying a few times before you can get another attempt at the boss. Save points are at benches you’ll find. Luckily, navigating becomes easier, fast travel points open and eventually you’re able to set a single warp point.
Other things: The Music and the “Feelings”
There are a few other things I wanted to touch on. The soundtrack for this game is fantastic. The soundtrack, done by Christopher Larkin, can be heard on Spotify and other music streaming services. It matches the tone of the world as you’re exploring, but also picks up during the boss battles. It’s hard for me to describe why I enjoy it so much, but there are a handful of tracks that I will listen to because they resonated with me.
Another thing I wanted to talk a bit about is just the feeling that the game gives. The world is so different, the combination of the characters, the enemies and the environment left me feeling like I wanted to know everything about the world. As someone who typically doesn’t get into the lore of the game, this was one rare time where I did go out of my way to talk to every NPC and scrounge for any text to read the history of the world.
In Conclusion…
As mentioned, there isn’t much here that strays too far outside some combinations of other Metroidvanias. The part that makes this game stand out though is how well the mechanics are here. There’s so much polish in the combat, you won’t ever feel like you’ve been cheated out of a hit. It’s very apparently when you’re the one screwing up. The difficulty, while harder than your average game, rewards you buy carefully taking your time to learn the pattern of attacks, dodging and everything is telegraphed so well. The world is huge and exploring is rewarded with interesting biomes and world-building. I could keep going on and on, there is so much I want to say about this game, but I don’t want to give anything away. I’ll end it with this: If you enjoy a Metroidvania game with a wonderfully unique world and solid action, this is one of the best choices you’ll have. If you aren’t down for that though, it’s worth checking out a playthrough video of, because if anything, it’s an absolute pleasure to look at.y

Oops, forgot to tell you that I have this awful habit of screencapping people who talk shit to me and then do not allow me to reblog those posts so I can submit my rebuttal. I am not a person who likes to be yelled at and not given a chance to reply.
Her Mom clearly thinks stealing is wrong. Her Mom likely taught her stealing was wrong, and yet she chose to do so anyway. Not only that, but she stole again, likely after her mother warned her not to. So that’s not only committing a crime via theft, that’s also lying and disobeying your mother who expected her child to respect her and her rules while they lived in her house.
Your argument that people who follow the laws aren’t necessarily good people is fallacious because you stealing is only benefiting yourself and maybe a few family members. It is not bettering the community or anything else, not like how people risked their lives to help black slaves make their way to the North (yes, I pulled something out of my ass just like you did in making egregious examples to make my point), which was, hm...illegal.
Yeah, I understand that people work long hours and are given shit deals. You think I was born into money? My great-grandparents grew up in the Depression, poor as dirt. Managed to make a life for themselves. My grandparents? Poor as dirt, managed to make a life for themselves. My Mother? Poor as dirt, managed to make a life for herself. Now I am white, so obviously obviously ob-vi-ous-ly there’s a reason why we are likely more successful than others who had similar cards stacked against them since the beginning.
I am studying the big W’s when it comes to the financial crises facing Americans in this day and age at my college (”oooh, she goes to college, big whoop” you’ll likely say. Well, personal experience means nothing to people in charge if you don’t have actual stats, accredited sources to back up your complaining, and formal training in how to make sound arguments based off of them).
Coincidentally, I am also studying Social Psychology, among other things, and what you are doing right now is known as neutralization, a theory which essentially means you’re making some convenient little narrative to justify committing crimes. Your first one is citing history (segregation), your second is pointing to how capitalism has gone awry in the past few decades. While your second point is very much a valid one in its own way, that does not justify your behavior, it only explains why you and people like you think it’s okay.
You seem to act like I’m some bourgeois uppercrust that believes that people are poor because they choose to be, that I think that corporations actually care about me and that I’m actually somehow mad that you’re breaking the law to “help yourselves” despite the odds being stacked against you.
Only an absolute F U C K thinks that unbridled capitalism is a good thing. I’m honestly offended that you would even suggest that I am not knowledgeable about:
This nation’s history and the treatment of its workers, up until the Progressive Era of the 1910s-1920s
The historical economic disparity between whites and blacks, for example, since the end of Reconstruction in the South
The major boost corporations received under the Reagan Era when he simultaneously cracked down on labor unions, which led to
Lowered wages almost across the board, as well as
Lowered taxes for the wealthy under Reagan, then Bush Sr., then Clinton, then Bush Jr., maintained by Obama, and possibly going to be lowered even more under Trump
Political shifts of the parties throughout history
Globalization and its effects on domestic workers
etc. etc. etc. when, like I’ve said, my family has through several generations struggled to survive as members of the working class. I am extremely empathetic of those who can barely make ends meet. I will even extend my sympathies to people who steal food and perhaps medicine to help their families.
However, I do NOT condone stealing luxury products that are not NEEDS but WANTS. While every human on this Earth should be guaranteed basic good treatment, food, water, safety, and a little nook to sleep in, this charity does not necessarily extend to frivolous material goods such as makeup or non-essential fashion items, jewelry, etc. Many people have lived and died comfortably without such things, I do not see why you absolutely cannot go on through life without snatching them. Those are personal little spoils, they do nothing to benefit anyone but yourself, so you are compromising your freedom for some trinkets for selfish reasons.
Not only that, but no matter what you tell yourself, you have done nothing to deserve these things. Nothing at all. Your work hours at some job day in and day out do not translate to being able to sneak out the doors with four bottles of nail polish. It doesn’t work like that. A direct exchange is required, one that benefits both parties giving something up for something else.
People like you are the reason why teenagers are discriminated against by business owners and treated like criminals without having done anything to deserve it. Hell, your ethnicity or race may likely be furthering preexisting stereotypes that harm innocent kids.
I am against stealing on principle. It is something that I simply do not consider to be right. It could be because I would not like it if someone were to steal from me (empathy) or maybe it’s because, if everyone stole, we’d have anarchy, and I don’t trust people to do the right thing 100% of the time when there is no obligation other than supposed “common sense of decency” to deter people from doing horrible things.
And no, I ain’t mad that y’all are stealing. I’m mad that OP was actually asking for sympathy and items to make up for the fact that they got in trouble for committing a crime. When I showed a friend this little story, he said “Serves that bitch right” and I have to honestly agree with them.
I don’t empathize with people who manipulate, steal, lie, cheat, harass, coerce, or attempt to blackmail others and then start bawling when Life knocks them on their ass.
Like I said in my original post, there are families out there that would murder OP for even thinking of doing such a thing as stealing. Pride and honor go very far in some cultures, they should feel blessed they weren’t born in a conservative, rural part of the Middle East or South East Asia.
Anyway, why can’t you borrow makeup from friends, or go to the food pantry if you’re hungry, or ask for donations from people (since that seems to be popular on here), or shop at Goodwill, or visit a church and see if donations are available? Is it because you’re actually well enough off that you could in theory actually buy these things, you just don’t want to under the veneer of “I’m so poor and I can’t afford anything I want :( :( :( so I’ll just steal it :D :D :D” ?
You know who thinks like that? 1) Children. Tiny, tiny little children that are not yet cognizant of how to be considerate to others. Either that or 2) Sociopaths,
You’ll notice that people who are very poor rarely steal unless absolutely necessary. Maybe it’s because they still hold morality to be much more important than the new eyeshadow they want, or a new pair of leggings.
In conclusion, the one thing that I hope you take away from this is that what you are doing is not justified nor righteous. Don’t use the economic hardships of millions of others as a green light. It’s likely the vast majority of them would think your methods are deplorable and would not even think of doing it themselves. Depending on your race, you’re likely furthering a racial stereotype. Depending on your age, you’re probably helping to perpetuate ageism and validating discrimination against your age group. And lastly, by shoplifting to “save money” you are proving to the big people up top that the poor are morally corrupt.
Thanks for helping out the people in your demographic by sending the message to bystanders that people in a similar boat as you economically and socially are untrrustworthy, manipulative, subversive, and unworthy of help.

Surrender the Land
Oneshot of a canon divergence from the 1001 times AU of @matsuorka . Word of God says it’ll never happen, so, enjoy this narumitsu pocket universe. You can find it here on AO3. My thanks to matsuorka for letting me share in her story adventure, being ever enthusiastic and supportive, and for letting me touch her stuff.
Characters: Phoenix Wright, Miles Edgeworth
Summary: “I suppose that friends should expect to know about things that are significant to each others’ lives, things that shaped their lives.” He looked to the fire, the ceiling, the priceless art on the walls, anywhere but to his friend standing silhouetted by the fireplace. (Words: 2,681)
It started one evening as they sat beside the fireplace.
Phoenix had appeared in the cold spring dusk to knock on Edgeworth's door. Edgeworth opened it to the monochrome purple twilight outside, and Phoenix with his arms crossed against the chill on his doorstep.
"It's me again!" said Wright in that corny absurd way which made Edgeworth want to snicker. Instead, he rolled his eyes and fought down his smile. "Is now a good time to visit?"
Edgeworth regarded him, and stepped aside to let him in. "Wright, of course I knew it was you. That was why we agreed upon the knock, remember?"
"Yeah, I remember," he answered, coming inside. He uncrossed his arms and took off his jacket as Edgeworth closed and locked the door again. "It's nippy here in the evening, isn't it?"
Edgeworth was accustomed to these inane comments of Wright's, his statements that didn't really make sense or serve any purpose. Wright had told him they were called 'small talk' in the slang of the future. Though he disliked the pointless exchange of information, he also had to admit that it was pleasant.
"Winter's cold still hasn't surrendered the land," Edgeworth said. "And you never seem to dress sensibly enough for your travels."
The two made more small talk as they went over to the hearth and took their comfortable places. Edgeworth slipped the book he'd been reading into the pile on the side table, and added another log to the fire. When he was done, Wright moved his chair closer to the fireplace, facing it at an angle.
Edgeworth stood at the center of the hearth, making sure the log would take. Wright stood behind his chair, waiting for Edgeworth to move so he could sit. Phoenix studied the sight of Edgeworth gazing into the fire, eyes calm and elegant, his immortal face still.
Edgeworth glanced over to him, then back to the fire. "Ah, my apologies. Excuse me." He stepped aside.
"Sorry, it's okay." Phoenix went around the chair, closer to Edgeworth, and put a hand on his shoulder as he moved past him to sit down.
Edgeworth froze at the touch, and couldn't seem to produce a single coherent thought in the long seconds it was there. When Wright's hand was gone, Edgeworth felt its absence. His mind was uncharacteristically blank as Wright warmed those same hands by the fire and sighed happily.
"Unfortunately, chamomile tea is all I have at the moment," said Edgeworth finally. "Would you still like some?"
Wright looked up to him and smiled. "That would be perfect, thank you."
"Please move that chair back when you're done," he said over his shoulder as he left.
With the space between them and a task at hand, Edgeworth was able to recover himself by the time he returned with his tea tray. Once he'd poured their cups, they talked per usual about the time from which Phoenix had come--a distant place, with what seemed like a riotous variation of people and strange, impossible inventions with functions Edgeworth could just barely conceive.
This evening, they got on the topic of personal accessories. Wright explained all the variety of purses and bags, that everyday hats and gloves had fallen out of fashion (which Edgeworth considered an unfortunate development), improvements to eyeglasses and contacts (barbaric and genius, Edgeworth decided), types of makeup and nail polish, how people cared for their skin and hair. He was explaining how men would buy products to restore their hair loss when he burst out laughing.
"Wright, what is it? I know our conversations usually tend to the substantive, but it is not that ridiculous to learn of personal grooming and care of the future."
"No, no, it's not that." Wright laughed a little more, then looked to Edgeworth with his laughing grin. "I told you I am a lawyer, yes?"
"Correct."
"Well, this one time…" he snickered at the memory. "Sometimes, older men cannot get their hair to grow back no matter what kind of product they try. So some of them wear false hair called a toupee which blends with their remaining natural hair, or covers it, which is smaller than a wig. I had a witness who wore one that was glued on."
"Gracious. I did not think wigs would last based upon what you've told me, however… Glue? My word."
"You might imagine it's very hard to maintain. Well--" He laughed to himself again. Edgeworth sipped his tea.
"My witness was not a good person. He was in fact the true murderer. When I found him out in trial, he ripped off his toupee and threw it across the courtroom. It hit me right in the face!"
There was a coughing splutter from behind Edgeworth's tea cup, and then, the most beautiful sound--Edgeworth laughing.
Hands dripping, he set the teacup and saucer down on the tray and picked up a napkin to dry his hands. He rested his right elbow on his crossed knee and continued laughing, hiding his face behind his hand with the napkin in it. Across from him, Phoenix continued to laugh as well, but softer, listening to the miracle that was this solemn, wearied man's laughter.
"Oh gosh, Edgeworth I'm sorry, I didn't mean for you to spit out your tea!" said Phoenix after a few moments of that wonderful sound. He set his own tea down and stood to give Edgeworth the rest of the napkins from the tea tray.
His host took them, still laughing but now softly under his breath. "Thank you, Wright," he said, and looked up to the time traveler.
Their eyes met, and it was Phoenix's turn to pause. Humor still sparkled in Edgeworth's grey eyes, and he was captivated by their ancient richness--like moonlit clouds passing swiftly on the wind across the starry sky.
Edgeworth took the napkins gently and without looking. Their hands brushed. Neither could seem to manage to look away.
"What is it?" asked Edgeworth.
"You're… I…" Phoenix tore his eyes away, and they lowered with difficulty down Edgeworth's face and neck to his chest. "Oh, your jabot!"
"My…? Ah." Edgeworth looked down to his white jabot, which had been spattered with the faint golden drops of tea. He began daubing at the white cloth with a napkin, but from his angle, it was difficult to see how he was doing.
Phoenix watched him try, feeling badly. "Maybe it'll be easier if you took it off? I could try to clean it then while you get the water."
Edgeworth paused, then lowered his hands. "No, that's quite all right. I will simply change it for another one."
"Oh, it's okay, you don't need to go get another. It's fine if you dress more casually with me." Wright gestured to his own clothes, which were fairly casual by the standard of the time he was now in. "I never wear a vest or button my jacket or anything…" He trailed off.
Edgeworth was still, a fixed expression creeping onto his face. Phoenix could feel his tension. The emotion Edgeworth had shown so far this evening in his laughter had been unusual already, but this tightness, perhaps even fear, was just as exceptional.
Phoenix was used to the subdued expressions of his friend, and had seen for himself just how much control Edgeworth required to remain as stoic when emotion sometimes welled inside him. But this was nothing like those times. Edgeworth usually recovered quickly in those situations, yet here under his studied, neutral expression, he was struggling.
"Um… it's--"
"Not to worry," said Edgeworth, coming back to the present again. "I keep many in my wardrobe for my daily needs." He stood, and Phoenix backed off to let him.
"Edgeworth, uh, is ev…" The immortal went past him. "Is--are you okay?"
Edgeworth paused, and turned back to face him. That awful struggling neutrality was back on his face again and Phoenix felt his heart twist in pain for his friend. He wouldn't meet Phoenix's eyes.
"I am fine, Wright. I will be gone only a moment. Please, enjoy your tea while it's still warm."
Phoenix watched him as he walked out. He stood still in the room for a few breaths before going back to sit down. He naturally looked to the empty chair opposite him, and then damp napkins on the side table next to it.
The typically neat and conscientious Edgeworth would not want those napkins left there. Phoenix picked them up and folded them to fit on the lacquer tea tray.
His gaze rested on them, then on the chair opposite him, then he took his tea cup and turned to the fire.
There he sat looking into the hearth, his hands encircled around the mild golden tea, when he saw Edgeworth return silently from the corner of his eye. Edgeworth stood at the entrance of the room without his jabot, and instead his left hand covering the base of his neck and fingers covering the right side of his lower neck, and the arm crossed over his chest. The immortal looked paler than usual, a little frightened, and like he had made a decision.
"Wright. There is…" He paused to get his voice back from the whisper it had descended to. "Wright, there is something about me that I think you should know. I believe we are friends, after all, and I suppose that friends should expect to know about things that are significant about each others' lives, things that shaped their lives." He looked to the fire, the ceiling, the priceless art on the walls, anywhere but to his friend standing silhouetted by the fireplace.
"I agree," said Phoenix, soft and neutral. "If there is something you think is important for me to know, then please. I would be honored know I am considered so trusted by you."
"Mmm. Well." Edgeworth cleared his throat.
Phoenix stepped back closer to the fireplace, inviting him to come closer.
His eyes darted to the time traveler, and away, and he did not move. "This… what I have… what I would show you is not… pleasant. I'm afraid it's perhaps… gruesome. From that you will understand why I reacted as I did when-- at the prospect of removing my jabot before you. And from that I will also extend my understanding if you do not want to… see it."
"Thank you, Edgeworth." The immortal swallowed tightly as he heard his name. "It was good of you to tell me what I would need to know to decide. But I would like to know what this is, if you still feel comfortable telling me." Again, Phoenix gestured for Edgeworth to come closer to the fireplace.
This time, Edgeworth crossed the room, moving as unconsciously as if sleepwalking. All his attention was burning on the clock on the mantelpiece. Phoenix led him by nonverbal suggestion past the chairs and to stand next to the hearth.
Once he stood in its light, there was nowhere else his gaze could escape to. He looked to Phoenix, who bore the intense emotions in his eyes like a weight hitting his chest.
"Are you faint of stomach?" asked Edgeworth.
Phoenix shook his head slowly. "Not especially."
"What is under my hand and arm is a scar," said Edgeworth, speaking slowly. "Sometimes, even I cannot look at it, and I keep it covered at all times. Would you still like to see?"
Phoenix nodded, and Edgeworth lifted his left arm away. As he'd said, there was a long, twisted line raised from his skin, pinkish-brown, which trailed from a little up the right side of his neck and down across its base to his chest, and disappeared into his shirt. Phoenix's vision went white around the edges, and he took a deep breath.
Edgeworth covered the scar again. "Are you all right, Wright?"
"Yes, I'm fine." He closed his eyes and breathed again. When he opened them, Miles was looking back at him with an awful tangle of emotions. The only response Phoenix could give was to lay a hand gently on Edgeworth's left shoulder. "What was it? What happened?"
"I received it under mysterious circumstances in my childhood. I do not remember much about it, but I do remember the sword and, of course, the pain and... blood, before I fainted." Under his hand, Phoenix could feel him beginning to shake.
"It's okay," said Phoenix, and went closer to put his other hand on the other shoulder, the one beneath the scar.
Edgeworth made a small step forward to Phoenix, and let him embrace around his folded-up arm. The immortal didn't shake more, but Phoenix could feel it clearly as he rested against him. Phoenix circled his arms all the way around Edgeworth and held him gently, not wanting to hurt his arm or the scar it covered, pressing him as close as he dared.
Edgeworth did not let the embrace last long, though, and pulled away after a few breaths. "It… I'm… " he stammered.
"Edgeworth, it's all right. It's important to you. May I see it again?" asked Phoenix.
He inhaled sharply. "Again? Why on earth would…" The tension in his body stopped his throat.
"It's all right. Now that I know, I'd just like to see it again."
Slightly disbelieving, Edgeworth uncovered the scar again, watching Phoenix's face.
"I'm sorry, but, may I touch it?"
Edgeworth stared at him, his incredulity less subtle this time. "Wright."
"I'm simply curious. I don't have to, I understand if it's uncomfortable."
Edgeworth shook his head slightly, then took one of Phoenix's hands. Despite himself, Phoenix flushed. "Only if like this," said Edgeworth, guiding Phoenix's hand up protected in his, in case he wanted him to pull away.
Phoenix nodded, and with the pale hand holding his, brushed the back of a finger across the scar at the base of the neck.
"That didn't hurt, right?"
"No. This scar is many decades old."
"I see." His fingertips came back to touch the scar lightly, and then again to run a small ways along it.
Phoenix was aware of Miles staring into his face while he looked at the scar he was touching.
Phoenix looked up, and saw how close they were. He turned his hand in Miles' so that he was holding it.
"There's something else," said Phoenix.
"What is it?"
"May I kiss your cheek?"
Miles went a little paler, and stared. Then, he nodded. Phoenix gave him a featherweight kiss beside the mouth.
When he looked at Miles again, his grey eyes were wide, and nearly blank. Then, he looked to the clock on the mantle, and back, and ever so tiny, a smile appeared in them. Then, he nodded again.
Phoenix kissed him on the same side of the mouth. Miles nodded again.
Phoenix brought in his hand to kiss the back of it. Miles nodded again.
Phoenix let his hand down and hugged Miles close. Miles held him closer too, and Phoenix felt his next nod slide on the side of his head. Phoenix gently pressed his lips against Miles' neck, then against the beginning of his scar.
When Miles nodded, Phoenix squeezed him gently, and let go.
Miles wouldn't let go, and stared into his eyes as a flush began to wash over his face. Seeing it made Phoenix flush too.
"Wright."
"Edgeworth…"
The fire crackled beside them.
"I suppose I should be… I think I need to return to my time now," said Phoenix. Miles reluctantly released him, his hands lingering, the scar visible in the fire's light. "Thank you, Edgeworth. I'm- I'm lucky to know someone like you."
"I…" Miles began hoarsely. "I feel the same."
"I will be back. You know me," said Phoenix, a playful smile beginning to appear. "I'll be back."
This seemed to begin to wake Edgeworth from his pleasant stupor. "I know. Ah, until then."
"'Bye."
"Goodbye."
The strings appeared around the time traveler, and he vanished. Edgeworth stood staring at the spot, unconsciously feeling along his scar where Phoenix had touched.

flower crown: when did you last sing to yourself? i feel like it was teenage rebel - chameleon circuit hahaha
fairy lights: if a crystal ball could tell you the truth about anything, what would you want to know? well, i often do tarot spreads for this. but i guess i would ask - you know. i’m not sure
daisies: what is the greatest accomplishment of your life? literally just surviving it all
1975: what is the first happy memory that comes to mind, recent or otherwise? maybe a few work ones, or the time not long ago i was put in a group assignment for uni. we all decided to meet up after our group presentation for drinks and hang out and i had a really fun time making new friends and hanging out with people
matte: if you knew that in one year you would die suddenly, would you change anything about the way you are now living? oh man i would have WAY less anxiety about everything. knowing that nothing i do will matter in a year would be so freeing and liberating. i’d probably get a new job and actually get my motorbike license and go for rides
black nail polish: do you have a bucket list? if so, what are the top three things? i don’t have a bucket list but i’ll try to think of 3 things i’d like to do before i die -
this has been in my drafts for days and i honestly can’t think of a thing.
pantone: describe a person close to your life in detail.
moodboard: do you feel you had a happy childhood? nope
stars: when did you last cry in front of another person? honestly i can’t remember. oh! i think maybe 6 months ago i got high and started over thinking and got sad and started crying. my roommate walked past because i forgot i had the door open and hugged me and then left after a bit
plants: pick a person to stargaze with you and explain why you picked them. ideally, it’d be a close friend. but i dont have those. so maybe if i could go back in time and stargaze with an old friend. otherwise, my current friend hj is cool! actually, i’d love to get high and stargaze with him.
converse: would you ever have a deep conversation with a stranger and open up to them? i have before. but no, i wouldn’t now. i’m not like that anymore
lace: when was your last 3am conversation with someone, and who were they to you? it was 4 months ago, with my old best friend’s ex-boyfriend (i think they broke up? i dont talk to either of them anymore). i used to be close to him anyway, like we were also best friends. and we used to be roommates.
handwriting: if you were about to die, and you could only say one more sentence to one person, what would you say and to whom? i’d love to look my mother in the eyes and say “i’ll never forgive you” but. it doesn’t feel right as much as i mean it. i guess i’d like to say it to both my parents. but i have to pick one person. .... i guess i would get my old best friend who i havent spoken to in 6 years and say “i’m sorry. i missed you for years. i’ll always love you” or something equally dramatic
cactus: what is your opinion on brown eyes? i have them and i love them. they’re so beautiful
sunrise: pick a quote and describe what it means to you personally. i’m picking a few because fuck the police “being human is a condition that requires a little anaesthesia” was from the bohrap movie. relatable mood. reminds me of my mother which makes me uncomfortable “fall down 7 times, stand up 8. higher, further, faster” from captain marvel. i’ve been through soooo much fucking shit in my life. and i feel like it just keeps coming (well. the shit keeps coming and it don’t stop coming and it dont stop coming and it dont stop coming and it dont stop coming) and sometimes i wonder what the point of it all is. like what’s the point of trying to be happy when i’m just going to be let down again. and so it’s encouraging to change perspective from that to, we get up higher, further, faster
“my skin has gone from porcelain, to ivory, to steel” - sansa stark it ties in with the captain marvel one. in that shit just keeps happening. and i feel the same way. i used to be so free and naive and i’m not that person anymore. i guess it makes me feel less alone.
oil paints: what would you title the autobiography of your life so far? “
overalls: what would you do with one billion dollars? buy a house for myself, buy a few investment properties so that i know i’m always secure financially. put a couple million in the bank. buy houses for my friends and family, donate the rest
combat boots: are you a very forgiving person? do you like being this way? yes and yes. i feel like i’m really understanding, and so i forgive people when it’s understandable. but once it’s past a certain point, i’m not at all forgiving. i hold grudges too. i like being this way
winged eyeliner: write a hundred word letter to your twelve year old self. “hey kid. happy birthday! well, this is where things start to get really hard. you’re going to go through a lot even though you think you won’t. people are going to leave you and treat you despicably and betray you. almost everyone you love will completely screw you over. you will have no one to count on except yourself. i’m not saying this to scare you. but i want you to know that even when you feel like it’s too much to handle, you’re so much stronger than you’ll even realise. you have so much turmoil ahead of you, but i love you so much. you’ll come out the other end with anxiety and so scarred. but you’ll survive it. all of it. you’ll survive. there’s no lesson or greater purpose. i’m not going to tell you that it all happens for a reason, because it doesn’t. just trust that you have what’s in you to face anything. once day this will all feel like a bad dream and you’ll start to feel like yourself again. best of luck. ps there is no god”
pastel: would you describe yourself as more punk or pastel? punk
tattoos: how do you feel about tattoos and piercings? explain. love them both. they’re hot and cool
piercings: do you wear a lot of makeup? why/why not? nah, i only wear make up to work. and that’s because i work in sales. part of getting people to like you is being attractive. make up makes you more attractive. when people like you, you have more influence over them and you make more sales
bands: talk about a song/band/lyric that has affected your life in some way. runaway by pink. that song just. what a mood. and family portrait. i relate to both of those songs so much. even when i was going through shit, i had that song that i could sing and even though things were never okay, they made it bearable
messy bun: the world is listening. pick one sentence you would tell them. be kind to each other?
cry baby: list the concerts you have been to and talk about how they make you feel. 1st was a pink concert i went to when i was 15! we were super poor so this was a major deal. i waited in line for ages and my back started hurting real bad. but as soon as she got on stage everything went away. it was electrifying and she performed my favourite song. and i had eyeliner on which i cried off because she was my idol and it was amazing. her dancers were also super hot and i re-affirmed my bisexuality because i was like. wow. yes 2nd was lana & borns. my sister made me go with her to see lana del rey who i dont really give a shit about. she’s cool but im not like a major fan. borns however, i adore with every fibre of my being. borns was the opening act which was cute. i was one of the only ones in the crowd who knew him and everyone behind me was like gasping and talking about how cute he is. which also re-affirmed my sexuality. up until that point i thought that maybe i was a lesbian because i didn’t tend to find men too attractive. but borns? nope, i knew i was bi. then lana came on. it was okay. i knew a fair amount of the songs and apparently pissed everyone off by singing? i just thought that’s what you did at concerts dsjgdslkr but i had fun.
grunge: who in the world would you most like to receive a letter from and what would you want it to say? i would love to get a letter from an old best friend of mine saying sorry & that we should catch up. i feel like i havent had a friendship as full of connection as the one we’ve had. it’s been years and i still dont have anyone that could possibly replace her. but i worry that if we ever did try to re-kindle things it just wouldnt work out. which would lead me to ask myself if there was ever going to be anyone else who i’ll have that connection with. but it’d be nice at least
space: do you have a desk/workspace and how is it organised/not organised? i don’t have a desk! i had one for about 3 months and it was organised. i was always too poor to afford a desk and it just wasnt a priority when i used my bed
white bed sheets: what is your night time routine? go upstairs, lay in bed, read .... words, stay up until my eyes are closing for me. sleep
old books: what’s one thing you don’t want your parents to know? my parents opinion literally means nothing to me. i wouldn’t care what they do/don’t know. i guess id prefer if they didnt know about the drugs because my mum did them a lot and it led to her being abusive. so they’d be suuuper judgy and probably take them off me and shit. but once im moved out, i dont really care. they wont be able to do much about it
beaches: if you had to dye your hair how would you dye/style it and why? i’d love to have a shaved thing. my hair’s already short. but my dad’s homophobic and doesnt want me to get it short. i dont give enough of a shit about it to argue with him so i leave it. but if i could, having a cool shaved thing would be nice
eyes: pick five people to go on an excursion with you. who would you pick and where would you go/what would you do? i dont think i even have 5 friends, and if i do, we certainly don’t have fun together. i’d just go by myself. i’m lots of fun to be around when it’s just me
11:11: name three wishes and why you wish for them. i wish for a job that has stable income, consistent hours, a kind staff, and is something that i’m not constantly fucking up. - i wish for this because i feel like getting up every day to do something that doesn’t give me panic attacks (that i might even be able to enjoy) is such a dream. and if it gives a stable amount of money and hours, i’d be able to plan things and have a life instead of worrying about them calling me at literally any given moment and asking me to work. which means i’d either have to work or stammer out an excuse on the spot & have the managers be mad at me i wish for a living space that i can afford & is either by myself or with people who aren’t terrible. or with people who can’t fuck me over if they get mad at me. this would step 2 of being happy for me. having a job that doesn’t make me anxious = job that could make me happy. living space that is secure and mine and that no one can take away = reduction of anxiety and security = potentially being happy. i guess i’d use the 3rd wish on having a car or motorbike. being able to get around without relying on anyone or public transport would be nice. i can go to places whenever it suits me and i’d be independent. i can just decide to go to an art gallery without it having to be a major planning thing or something that would take 2 hours to get to and from. it’d be very liberating
painting: what is the best halloween costume you have ever put together? if none, make one up. omg! last halloween. i borrowed an old friend’s witch costume. it was this cute corseted dress with a mini skirt & suspenders that attach to stockings. i bought a matching wand and witches hat. i looked super cute
lightning: what’s the worst thing you’ve ever done while drunk or high? i havent done terrible things under the influence hey. i mostly just have fun and keep to myself.
thunder: what’s one thing you would never do for one million dollars? i dunno man. one million dollars is a lot of money. surely any of my usual morals would fly out the window. murder would become questionable. like it’s $1 million. i guess maybe not murder because if i went to jail then i wouldnt be able to spend the $1m. mass murder of like children and innocent people i probably wouldnt do. even if i got away with it
storms: you on only listen to one song for the rest of your life, or only see one person for the rest of your life. which and why? 1 song would be maybe americans - janelle monae. it’s a tune and you can listen to it for any mood really 1 person? i’ve purposefully gotten rid of any person i would want to only see for the rest of my life. not in a murder way, i just cut ties with them
love: have you ever fallen in love? describe what it feels like to realise you’re in love. many a time. it’s a really nice thing! not just romantically. but for me, i just suddenly can’t stop thinking about them. like every spare second i have i’m wondering what they’re doing, thinking about our inside jokes, planning what i’ll say next, wondering what to wear to impress them next, planning how i’m going to work this funny story i want to tell them, etc. and i won’t be able to stop smiling whenever they’re around. the worst giveaway for me is when i can feel myself excessively talking to other people about them. and i can’t stop. it gives me something to think about that makes me happy. something that makes me happy to distract from usually the shitter things.
clouds: if you’re a boy, would you ever rock black nail polish? if you’re a girl, would you ever rock really really short hair? i am a girl and i have really really short hair. i rock it. i also rock black nail polish
coffee: what’s your starbucks order, and who would you trust to order for you, if anyone? i hate coffee. so i usually order a white hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows. i’d trust anyone to order it for me. as long as they didn’t screw up and get me the white chocolate mocha, which has happened a few times
marble: what is the most important thing to you in your life right now? alcohol. music! probbaly music before alcohol. i love music. cigarettes. and my phone

Michigan Auto Insurance Premium almost twice as much as quote!?
I'll do my best to summarize my situation, and am using estimates for days and amounts... I received a quote for auto insurance for $590 for a 6 month period from an independent auto agent. When I received my insurance policy and premium price it way nearly double (over $1,100). I cancelled the policy within a week after receiving the huge increase in premiums. Because of the time it took for me to receive my new premium and the 5-7 days for me to cancel, I received a bill for an amount due of roughly $40.00. I previously had auto insurance through the company/agent but it was for a different vehicle and paid a month in advance. My question is, why am I responsible, and how am I responsible for the premium that is so much higher than what I was quoted? I didn't sign any paperwork, I called over the phone and had the agent switch the policy based on the new quote. Auto insurance played a huge factor in budgeting for the vehicle and I feel that I was ripped off. I should be getting a credit for the 10 days that I did not use, not having to pay more for the days I did use. Thanks for any advice you're able to provide!""
I have a question about business insurance?
I just received the Insurance Premium Quote and General Commercial Liability from this Insurance company. In the last page they claim that their company is not licensed by the state of California (nonadmitted or surplus line). It says: The Insurer is not subject to the financial solvency regulation and enforcement which applies to California Licensed Insurers. The Insurer does not participate in any of the insurance guaranteed funds created by California Law. Therefore these funds can not pay your claims or protect your assets if the insurer becomes insolvent and is unable to make payments as promised . So I checked the www.insurance.ca.gov and this guys are there, as active. However, should I trust them? What this notice exactly mean?""

Is it normal for a doctor to tell you you have to pay $90 a year if you use health insurance?
I live in Colorado and I got a letter from my doctor today telling me I have to pay $90 a year to use insurance with him. This is kind of bothering me because I am waiting to have surgery and am not working and can't afford much more than just a co-pay. Does this sound normal for a doctor to ask for this?

Will it save money to take driving lessons at 17 but not get insurance until 21/22?
I'm nearly 18 now, I've left driving a little late... my family asked me if I wanted to learn to drive at 17 and for some reason I didn't want to, but now I've got uni coming up in September (June now for future readers) I'm wondering if it's worth doing it now. I'd heard from someone that if I start learning at 21 or 22, insurance costs more than if I learn now and have a license for a few years before getting insurance and a car at 22 years, for arguments' sake. Car insurance help..?
I just asked this question but i'll add more details--------------------- About me - I pass my test 06/03/12 And bought a car and insurance - 10/03/12 ( the car was a vauxhall corsa) I still have the vauxhall and it's insured untull the 10th of March. I'm buying a suzuki swift today and want to insure it but It's cheaper if i have 1 year No claims bonus (NCB). To get my NCB i have to wait until the 10th and i dont mind that what's bothering me is I want to sell my Corsa before or after the 10th or whatever to a garage so not private sale and still have my NCB. Is there something a garage can do where i take it to them on the day my insurance ends and they keep it until it ends? I haven't insured the suzuki AT ALL yet and i'm relying on my NCB as it takes a huge chunk out of the money. thanks.

I am retired federal employee & want info on car insurance rates?
Is car insurance in any way fair?
I know there is not much that I can do about it on my own but I am thoroughly annoyed by paying for car insurance. You pay for it in the hopes that you don't get into an accident and it increases. Once you've gotten into an accident, depending on the company, they try to figure out a way not to pay for it. If your car is totally destroyed, you're stuck with the blue book value and the remainder of your car note in some cases (if your insurance is really bad). While all of this is going on, the car is depreciating at an almost exponential rate and the top it all off, it is a requirement by our government to pay for it. Now I do undestand its place but there needs to be some type of adjustment in the way that this system works. I mean, while they're collecting money on your insurance, they are reinvesting it and making money off of your money that you will never get back and ultimately never use....I'm annoyed. I feel like I am just throwing money away. What do you think?""

The Gender Tag, an update
1. How do you self-identify your gender, and what does that definition mean to you?
I’m a guy. I’ve known that for sure for a long time now, I just never had the courage to admit it to myself. I liked the label non-binary too, one because I had an excuse to stop thinkingt about how I really feel, and two because it made me feel safe. There were people who could just be non-binary and didn’t „have to decide“ between male or female, and that idea was honestly so comforting.
But yeah, time to stop lying to myself, I’m trans, I’m a man, and in the near future I want to start living my „real“ life by being perceived and treated as a man by other people too. I’m sick of self-doubting and wasting time hating myself.
I only said it out loud three times by now, but every time I did it was honestly so empowering and liberating and I’m starting to feel pride in being myself. I like how the word feels when I say it, I like thinking of myself as a guy, and I can’t wait to finally completely feel like myself.
2.What pronouns honor you?
Although my parents and sister know they still use she/her pronouns for me and though it doesn’t feel right at all we agreed on not changing pronouns to he/him or change my name until I start transitioning because my appearance, voice and behaviour crash with their image of a man and I don’t want to stress them out. It still sucks, though.
I’ve been telling some friends to try their best to avoid pronouns at all and instead use my name since I id'ed as non-binary and I’ll just keep it that way for now, which works a lot better for me than she/her.
In group chats for other trans* folks I already use he/him pronouns and it’s like the best feeling ever.
Online I’ve been using they/them for quite a while now, but I think I’ll put he/him in my blog description soon, just because I can and it makes me feel better.
3. Describe the style of clothing that you most often wear.
I’m a jeans and t-shirt/sweatshirt person and usually wear dark colours, sometimes a button-down shirt and I love all kinds of jackets. What I own is mostly out of the men’s section, except for jeans, they just don’t fit me. I try to present either as masculine as I can without looking like a little boy or just kinda androgynous so that people that don’t know me at least don’t put me into the female box as soon as they see me. Skirts or dresses have long been eliminated from my closet.
I’m still very convinced that clothes don’t have a gender and everybody can wear what they want without having the clothes define their identity. And as soon as I start looking more like I’m supposed to I’ll work on my style, I’m actually really into fashion and I want to try out a lot of different aesthetics.
Right now I just don’t feel confident enough with my body, I rarely fit into regular men’s clothes and it’s always a disappointment when I try on something that looked great on the tall, very masculine cis male model and pretty terrible on super short, chubby me.
4.Talk about your choices with body hair. How do you style your hair? Do you have facial hair? Why do you choose to shave or choose not to shave?
I like my hair short, even shorter than my brother’s, shaved on the sides and longer on the top. My hairdresser calls it a unisex cut and he never complains about me having to still look female, and I honestly love him a little for that.
When I go out I put some wax into the top part to create the illusion of an actual hairstyle without having to actually style it properly because honestly, I have no idea how hair styling works.
My hair is very important to me and how I express myself, it makes me nervous when it grows out and looks like some weird pixie cut, so I get it cut regularly.
When I’m taking hormones and they start showing effects I’ll bleach my hair blonde, until then I’m too scared it’ll make me look even more feminine.
I don’t have any facial hair, yet. Beards are awesome.
My legs haven’t seen a razor in probably years, I avoid shorts and anything that requires hairless legs in order to not make people freak out and ask me about it.
Actually, I’ve never been bothered by my body hair at all, never felt an obligation to shave anything but my armpits in summer just because society expects some people to. I can’t wait until I can wear shorts in public without getting any weird looks though, jeans aren’t the best summer wear.
5. Talk about cosmetics. Do you choose to wear makeup? Do you paint your nails? What type of soaps and perfumes do you use if any?
I don’t wear make up, my skills are non existent and I envy everyone who has the patience to learn how to put it on well. But I do love a man in eyeliner and guys who rock lipstick and eyeshadow and everything else.
Make up is also a thing I wanna explore more when I’m taking hormones and my masculinity is official in documents so that people can’t take it away from me by calling me a girl.
Same thing with nail polish, lack of skills, admiration of people who posess those skills, and plans to try it out some time later in my transition.
Perfume isn’t my thing, especially not fruity and this seductive stuff that’s aimed at women.
As for shampoo and other cosmetics I just use whatever smells good to me. Sometimes I buy things that say „for men“ on it on purpose just for the feeling of using a product that’s expected to be used by a man, which is a bit silly but also makes me feel validated.
So, in conclusion, nothing has a gender until it says of itself so, and only the fear of not being taken seriously by a society controlled by the gender binary is stopping me from expressing myself freely.
6. Have you ever experieced being misgenderd, if so how often?
Well, nobody would believe me to be a cis guy if they saw or heard me, so yeah, being misgendered is my everyday life, but that’s not really something I can blame people for.
What I do take personally is that my family still doesn’t even try to stop using words like sister or daughter, my sister even started to misgender me more than she did before by using my full name (which barely anyone does), if intentionally or not.
It’s very hard for them to understand that I already am man, regardless of how my body looks like and what my papers say, instead of a woman that is going to be a man some time in the far away future. Sucks, but things like that take time.
7. Do you experience dysphoria? How does that affect you?
I do, it started years ago with mild body dysphoria, and now it’s grown into this mess of body and social dysphoria that heavily affects my life.
However, I didn’t start to really hate my body because of being trans or my weight or anything considering my appearance, it developed from how others treated me and what they expected me to be just from what I look like.
I never liked my big chest, not because it’s a big chest but because people, and especially my mother (which is so weird), commented on and talked about it. Today I can’t wait to finally, finally get top surgery and be free of these body parts people seem so focused on. I try to wear my binder outside as often as possible and love how it makes my body look just that little bit more like I want it to so badly.
For me social dysphoria can be worse than body dysphoria, there’s no way to casually correct pronouns or call myself a man without starting a discussion and making things awkward.
I feel forced to act more feminine, giggly and submissive than I actually am just so that people don’t think I’m a rude woman and stop liking me. And when people have this false image of me it’s even harder to convince them of my real gender. Gender roles suck. I’m not in the mood to apply for jobs and I don’t feel like making new friends outside the queer community, just because I’d have to use a name and gender that isn’t mine and act like the young woman everybody expects me to be. It’s exhausting and depressing.
8. Talk about children. Are you interested in having children? Would you want to carry a child if that were an option for you? Do you want to be the primary caretaker for any children you may have?
Since like forever I’ve been sure that I never want to be pregnant and carry a child, though I do would want children, if my future partner is okay with that.
As for now I really can’t say who will be taking care of it mostly, I’m just not in that situation right now, who knows, I think that depends on careers and income.
9. Talk about money. Is it important to you to provide for your family financially? Is it important for you that you earn more than any partner you may have? Do you prefer to pay for things like dates? Are you uncomfortable when others pay or offer to pay for you?
It’s stupid but sometimes I enjoy doing things that are considered to be „the man’s thing“ like opening doors and paying, for me it’s reassuring and one of the few ways I can fit into the stereotypical male gender role. I still think gender roles suck and people should be how they want to be, but you know, there’s something comforting about doing something that’s associated with the gender you identify with, no matter how cliché.
On the other side, I’m uncomfortable when people spent a bigger amount of money on me in general, no matter what gender they are or I am. For future dates I think I’ll stick with paying my part of the bill or taking turns in paying for smaller things like drinks or whatever.
Having more income than my partner isn’t what I’d put a lot of importance on, all I’m hoping for is that we’re financially stable, but those are all problems for the future and not now.
10. Anything else you want to share about your gender?
Nope! Pretty sure that’s it for now.
