And if you go deeper into the structure of the video and the messages that come out of it… at least…. And if you dig deeper into the structure of the clip and the message it conveys… you have to watch it at least 10 times. Moreover, even one random frame in the "Gakemo" clip contains a message worthy of a film director! To deeply understand their work, it's not enough to watch the clip a few times. That's why I watch it over and over again, hundreds of times.

Silver? Is this work really that deep? It seems like it could be useful for emotional education as well. However, I think it would be a good idea to include it in school music lessons.

Well, the experience I gained from developing things like motion sensors and autonomous controls came in handy when I was making Ortho, so all my trial and error didn't go to waste.

So if you've been following me on Instagram you would have seen me say recently that I've decided to take a step back from posting/sharing/creating Grishaverse content due to what Leigh Bardugo said (or rather what she didn't say) about the situation in Palestine. For context, during the press tour for The Familiar, an audience member asked Leigh about the justification for non-BIPOC authors profiting off BIPOC stories yet not advocating for real-life BIPOC people (since Leigh has been silent on Palestine since October, despite having expressed solidarity with Palestine in the past).

The video (which you can watch here) has been circulating the internet for a while, and I've already spoken about this on Instagram. I just forgot I had Tumblr for a second there, hence why I'm only addressing this now despite having already spoken about this. However, as someone who has an entire online presence dedicated to Leigh's work, it would be wrong and rather hypocritical of me to not address this.

Disclaimer: This is not a conversation about whether or not white/white-passing authors should be allowed to write BIPOC stories, as many people both in the comments of the original video and online generally have taken it. The issue isn't that Leigh is writing BIPOC stories - it's that she's writing them and choosing not to advocate for real BIPOC people.

The audience member asked a confronting but necessary question, and isn't harassing Leigh as many people online have interpreted it. Holding your favourite people accountable isn't "harassment", especially when that person is a successful author profiting off stories that reflect issues in the real world. Art is inherently political whether or not you want to acknowledge it. This also isn't about specifically asking Leigh this question because she's Jewish - it's because she profits off these stories and yet when these exact same issues are prevalent in the real world, suddenly they're "too political" for her to speak up about despite having expressed solidarity in the past. It has nothing to do with her being Jewish.

However, what's going on in Palestine isn't a political issue. It's basic human rights. It's about humanity, and acting as if posting about this issue is "performative" is ridiculous. I don't know what she's doing behind the scenes, so I'm not going to act as if she isn't doing anything outside of social media because I simply don't know, but when you have an online presence as big as Leigh's you should be using that platform to raise awareness and express solidarity. I understand that it's very easy to come across as "performing activism", especially on social media, but Palestinians have asked us time and time again to use our platforms to help raise awareness and amplify their voices. When you're someone like Leigh who profits off stories of the trials and tribulations of BIPOC people, the very least you can do is talk about the atrocities being committed against BIPOC people in real life.

No one is expecting you to be an expert on what's going on. If you've previously posted misinformation, why not learn from it and actually educate yourself and do better? You're literally an author who profits off stories of colonialism, oppression, dissemination, apartheid, segregation and genocide and suddenly that happening in real life is "too political"? And the amount of privilege you have to not want to get involved in talking about a real-life genocide because you "stopped being political on Instagram" is laughable. Just feeling sad about it isn't going to do anything. It doesn't erase the fact that an entire people are being ethnically cleansed in a genocide you refuse to talk about.

The Grishaverse means so much to me, it's gotten me through some extremely tough periods of my life, but I cannot in good conscience continue to support an author who chooses silence over her own humanity. All she had to say in response to that question was "free Palestine", but she instead said something akin to "I know about what's going on and I know silence and feeling sad about it probably isn't enough, but I'm just not going to do anything about it". Again, I know she's advocated for Palestine in the past, but why not continue doing so? No one is stopping her - she's actively chosen to stop.

As for my accounts? I'm still deciding what to do with them. I won't be deleting them, I'm not going anywhere, but I won't be posting edits or sharing analyses or general posts about the Grishaverse until Leigh decides to do better. This blog will probably turn into a multifandom blog, but who knows at this point. All I know is that I won't be promoting Leigh's work.

You looked up to the sun. It's in the middle of the sky. You swear that the entire ordeal has taken up more than a day.

The translator is lugging her own backpack, you assumed she bought it sometime before the three of you arrived home. You asked her if she's okay.

"Yeah. Nothing I can't handle. Are you?" She asked, adjusting the heavy straps on her shoulders.

You asked, how many hours are there in a day? A day in this planet, you mean.

"They considered 30 hours a 'day'. But actually, it takes approximately five thousand and nine hundred hours for this planet to complete a whole rotation- in other words, around two hundred 'accepted days' in a 'real day'. You get me?"

What.

That doesn't explain the first five days you spent here, the sun seem to set and rise at regular intervals!

"Sunlight hours here are fucked up. You just got lucky. During your three-day coma, I even saw the sun flicker. Sometimes, the sun would just disappear for a few 'days' and come back, at full brightness for a week straight."

You asked her why that happened, the translator trailed behind 2718. You rested your chin on his shoulder.

"You can rent the sun. Literally. My reality is no stranger to artificial celestial bodies, we even make our own stars too. But we use science, not some childish, made up idea." She grumbled.

"The guy your friend offed for shoving glass in your throat."

The reminder of the disgraced citizen made your blood run cold.

"I didn't get all my knowledge of this place from that one guy, though. Most of it came from my associates living here."

You really can't. The properties of this planet sounds... familiar. But yet, so foreign.

"But if you're talking about the solar system before it became a dumping ground for thugs, it's just some poor, alternate timeline where Earth is a budding Type 1 civilization. They stood no chance against Type fives."

You asked what civilization is... 'Convict Central' under.

You brought your hands to your head, upset that you didn't get a chance to experience a world never seen before. And you never will, you're just not evolved enough to grasp it.

The translator defended herself with a whine, swearing that she didn't do anything to you.

You were curious as to why 2718 set you down.

"He's taking a water break." Explained the translator. She took out her own water bottle from her bag.

Your companion softly nudged your arm with the waterskin. You twisted your head and picked it off his hand. He patted your head.

You looked into the distance. It's still a long way to go, you huffed. You felt very demotivated, you really don't want to sit through this entire journey.

Maybe 2718 felt your demoralization too, or the translator told him in a frequency that you cannot hear, but he cupped your cheeks and stared into your eyes.

He gently squished your cheeks, forcing you to pucker a bit, before letting go. The man then pressed a loving kiss onto your forehead. You closed your eyes when he affectionately nuzzled his nose against yours.

"He's said that it's going to be okay. You're doing well and he loves you." Your eyes shifted to the woman.

This translation cause 2718 to growl at the translator for ruining the moment. He shielded you in his arms as he barked insults at her. She argued back, this time annoyance was apparent in her tone and face.

You asked if 2718 actually understands you.

"Not really. But I bet anyone would look at that-" She pointed at his house in the distance. It looked like an ant from here. "-And go 'aaaugghhh... still a long way to go...' I know, I do. He's trying to cheer you up, that's all. You had a sad face on anyways."

You leaned into 2718, tiredly resting against him as he drank some from the waterskin. You don't know why you're so exhausted. It's not like you did most of the walking.

"You have been awake for 35 hours, of course you're going to feel like shit. You're accustomed to 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of darkness. Today someone rented out the sun and left it on longer than I liked. You better thank them, though. Dealing with creatures of the night is no easy feat."

You groan, has it really been that long? You told her to ask him; how long did it take for him to recover from his injuries earlier.

2718 uttered something to her.

"He said six hours, 27 minutes, 13.0348... Okay, I'll just round it off to the nearest second. 6 hours, 27 minutes and 13 seconds. The fight with the insect took thirteen minutes- around thirteen minutes, he's giving me a twelve digit number and I'm not saying all that."

Assuming the three of you spent half an hour at the lighthouse, that means... the journey from the house to the translator's base took around 28 hours and 20 minutes. You're way behind your sleep schedule, you're going to get eyebags!

But, how does she know that you're awake for 35 hours?

"Your friend told me. Oh yeah, he actually told me to tell you this earlier, so you would... you know, be comfortable sleeping. In his arms. Sorry. I forgot. And I'd be lonely without you talking to me, so..."

You guess you can see why he doesn't trust her to translate his words. You also wonder what else is she omitting from you for her own benefit. You would have forced yourself to stay awake anyways for her sake, she didn't need to lie or 'forget'.

You're giving her the benefit of the doubt. Maybe the language is just too complex to catch everything in one breath. Nevertheless, it does disturb you that the translator could easily manipulate the situation to her favor if she wanted to- by giving false translations.

2718 probably won't buy into her tricks as much. But you know you would, because she's the only one you could understand. And you have no choice but to rely on her.

It made you question if the words she said that made him hostile were congruent to what she tells you.

All these thinking are giving you a headache. You don't want to talk to her for now.

You told her that you're going to sleep for the next... however many hours it takes to walk back. She's disappointed, but she understands.

2718 lifted you up by the arms and lets you sag onto his shoulder. His cold hands, spreading harmless frost all over the fabric of your clothes. Chilling you under the scorching sun.

You let your eyelids droop, slowly giving into the sweet embrace of sleep-

"What the fuck happened here?" You lifted your head at her remark.

This earned a yell from 2718, not at you, at the translator. He must be angry at her for waking you up.

You're more concerned about the matter that made her say that. So you rubbed your eyes before looking around.

Oh. After realizing that you're still on... Venus, and not in some sort of blood-painted, tropophobia-inducing hellscape, you relaxed. Actually, it was extremely bizarre to think about it. Venus, a planet known for it's inhabitable conditions, and you're in it? Alive? And not burnt to bits?

You explained that the epic battle between your companion and the insect took place here. He bled out profusely from his leg and eyes.

You lolled back onto him, adjusting your hat so that the sun doesn't touch your eyes.

You heard the translator grumbled something under her breath. 2718 didn't respond, at least not in a way you can perceive.

His rhythmic trudging lulled you deeper and deeper into slumber.

Hey so like I get I might be unqualified to say this, but if you're an artist frustrated by the lack of feedback on your work and considering reacting by publicly berating/threatening/guilt tripping your audience - probably don't? Probably don't do that?

Like I get it, art is vulnerable and it can be tough not to get feedback from the dopamine machine that is social media. At the same time, I have literally never seen someone execute that strategy in a way that was remotely successful.

When a standup working my old open mic said "I have better jokes but I'll save them for a better audience", he found an efficient way to look like an asshole and not get a laugh in the process! Likewise, when an artist online says they're quitting their dreams of animation because we're assholes that won't fund a very loose premise for a comical amount of money - it's not a good look!

Maybe this applies less to fanfiction. I don't know about fanfiction. And I don't necessarily believe that everyone has to solely write for themselves - though I am pretty confident that should be the main driving force in a successful work ethic. I have, however, published and produced my writing enough to know that you do have to get comfortable with a lukewarm, or even silent reception.

I've published short stories to online literary journals I'm not convinced that anyone reads. I wrote a column for a culture website for like three years - solely because the editor kept asking for me to keep writing. I never got any feedback on anything I wrote. I later found some of my old articles republished on other weird websites, which was odd, but since my editor silently deleted all my old articles without saying anything I was just glad they still existed somewhere.

I think my only experience I have with instant mass validation in art was through theater, and those were only in cases when an audience knew ahead of time that I was the playwright.

Is this a cool situation? I don't know. I go back and forth on it. I mean I want to be appreciated as much as anyone, I want to know my art is being valued the way I value it - but I'm also weird about compliments sometimes. That's beside the point. What I mean to say is that when I get in the headspace of wanting more feedback, my impulse is not to complain about my audience on the same platform where I'm trying to establish and cultivate a relationship with them. This account is under my actual pen name. I don't censor myself really, but I am cognizant about what I say in terms of - you know - an online paper trail.

But yeah when I really want to complain I talk to my friends. You can be petty as shit to your friends, online and in real life. No one gets hurt, and if you decide later that you overreacted you don't have to meekly crawl back and retcon a bunch of Hard Takes.

This isn't really a moral lesson because it's not a flaw to want praise, or even just acknowledgement. It's more, like, professional? For people with career or career-adjacent aspirations? There are definitely a lot of professional artists who act pretty wildly, and unless they've already proven they're capable of quality work it doesn't really turn out great for them. So it doesn't hurt to be at least surface-level chill in more visible spaces.

You and Megumi have known eachother, eversince you enrolled in Jujutsu High while Megumi became a second year of Jujutsu High. Regardless of any of his moods and/or his facial expressions he shows around you, you always seem to secretly have a crush on him. You just always enjoyed his company.

After graduating Jujutsu High, you have been excited to go on missions as a Jujutsu Sorcerer who is a Jujutsu High, graduate. Ofcourse, you're also a Special Grade type of a Jujutsu Sorcerer. That's what fuels your desire to go on missions to fight cursed spirits (after graduating Jujutsu High), even more.

As time went by, you definitely did very well defeating the cursed spirits on your missions. After all, you did very well as a student in Jujutsu High and you're a Special Grade type of Jujutsu Sorcerer. However, not only you grew complacent with your missions involving fighting the cursed spirits, there's also something else you have been thinking about (or someone)...

The truth is that you have been missing Megumi Fushiguro, eversince he graduated from Jujutsu High (the year before you graduated from Jujutsu High), so you and Megumi both have been unable to see eachother or contact eachother (neither you nor Megumi have eachother's cellphone numbers) in anyway possible.

The next thing that happened, you heard the knock on the door. "I wonder who's knocking on the door?", you asked yourself, then you mumbled to yourself, "Aside from my family, the mail person delivering the mail or someone delivering a package I ordered online, no one really comes here anymore.", as you were walking to the door. As you opened the door, you noticed it was non other than, Megumi Fushiguro. "Is everything okay? Are you alright, (Any Gender Reader Name)?", Megumi asked, as he was noticing a shocked look on your face.

You replied, "Yeah. I'm just surprised, anyone, especially you, came here. Besides my family, the mail people, and some people delivering the packages I ordered, no one really comes here at all. I'm even surprised you know where I live.". Megumi then explained, "I'm not a stalker or anything. I wanted you to come with me on a big mission and Gojo Satoru knew somehow, then he mentioned that he has been watching you go in your house every other day, then told me the address without me asking him or telling him to do so for me. So, that's how I found your place.". "I didn't think you're a stalker or anything like that Megumi. I was just curious. I didn't mean for you to get the wrong idea.", you told him, as you were unconsciously, blushing a little bit.

"Well anyways, (Any Gender Reader Name), prior to Gojo telling me where you live, which I think he was spying on you, however he want both of us to go on a mission.", Megumi said, then he continued, "This mission involves a more powerful special grade cursed spirit than any other special grade cursed spirits that I fought before. I'm not sure about you, however according to Gojo we're best suited for this mission, and considering Nobora and Itadori, they're on a different mission, so they won't be able to join us right now.". Then you asked, "So, this is where we come in I take it?". Megumi then replied, "You would have been on that mission regardless, even if they didn't have their hands tied. But you're close.".

Not too long afterwards, both you and Megumi left your place to get on your way to start your mission. As you and Megumi both try finding the more powerful than usual special grade cursed spirit in some forest, Megumi mentioned, "I'm not sure, if you know this. I'm just kind of glad, Gojo did pair us up for this mission.". You then asked him out of curiosity, "What do you mean by that, Megumi?". Megumi then said, "Well, (Any Gender Reader Name). It's not just our skills and capabilities, as Jujutsu Sorcerers. I'm just happy we can finally be on the same mission together, since we haven't went on one together in a while. Also I'm not sure, if you feel the same way about me, however I liked you a lot, (Any Gender Reader Name).". As you smile, you decided to confess back, however before you could confess back, Megumi saw the a cursed spirit charging at you, so he quickly used the (shikigami to the reader's imagination and/or if reader's choice), in order to prevent this cursed spirit from instantly injuring you.

Before you could think of starting to ask Megumi what happened, you turned around and couldn't help noticing this scary looking cursed spirit. Something definitely is different about this cursed spirit, as you're wondering, if it's the same cursed spirit that more powerful than the other special grade cursed spirits. After you got the gut feeling that this is the more powerful than usual special grade cursed spirit, all you could do was grin, as you're excited for a challenge for once.

Megumi, then realized you were grinning as he said, "Hey, (Any Gender Reader Name)! What's that grinning about? Do you even realize you could have atleast gotten injured, if I didn't use one of my shikigami to get you out of harms way? Why are you so happy about seeing that special grade cursed spirit, especially after ((s)he/they) nearly hurt you?". Afterwards, you looked at him and before you could try answering him, the more powerful than usual special grade cursed spirit hit Megumi where he would be knocked outcold temporarily. That's when your grin turned into a very angry look, that you ended up giving this more powerful than usual special grade cursed spirit (which you gave (him/her/them) a very angry look).

The next thing you did was punch the more powerful than usual special grade cursed spirit in the face as you shouted, "How dare you hit Megumi, especially the way you did!". You then said, "Don't ever hurt him ever again, you jerk!". The next thing the more powerful than usual special grade cursed spirit did was turn (his/her/their) head back to the way it was before you punched (him/her/them) in the face. As ((s)he/they) ended up looking at you (after turning (his/her/their) head), ((s)he/they gave you an evil smile as ((s)he/they) laugh at your words, your punch, and your expression on your face.

You were shocked about what the stronger than usual special grade cursed spirit did. It's not about it's strength or anything like that. It's the simple fact of how ((s)he/they) turned (his/her/their) head to only give you an evil smile and an evil laugh at your expense. You kept punching, kicking, using your cursed techniques, and everything you can think, including your most powerful attacks (that defeated the other cursed spirits, including special grade), to take down this special grade cursed spirit who is more powerful than the usual special grade cursed spirits, however no matter how hard or how many times you punched, kicked, attacked, used your cursed techniques, and everything else you could think of, this special grade cursed spirit is just too strong to take down. The more you tried to take (him/her/them) down, the faster and harder ((s)he/they) attack, and one of the worst parts (if not the worst part) is ((s)he/they) has no care in any universe, if the attack landed on you or not, because ((s)he/they) know (his/her/their) routine with attacking (his/ her/their) opponents and as long as (his/her/their) opponent(s) eventually get tired out or some injury happens at the opponents expense, then the opponent is done for and after a while the special grade cursed spirit definitely knew you got tired out as ((s)he/they) planned, as this cursed spirit never gets tired out from any physical activity from what it seems like.

You haven't learned to use a Domain Expansion, because you thought all Domain Expansions were the same no matter the sorcerer nor cursed spirit. You thought you were complacent before, however you began to realize how complacent you really are from not only fully knowing how capable this particular special grade cursed spirit really is now, however also from the overconfidence you had in your own cursed techniques and attacks without using Domain Expansion that you should have learned a long time ago. You had potential to learn how to use your very own Domain Expansion, however you were never interested nor did you lived up to your potential of learning to use the Domain Expansion of your very own.

As the special grade was about to use (his/her/their) Domain Expansion on you, you noticed some shadows, then the next thing you did was look behind you to see a glance of Megumi as he began to use his Domain Expansion, which is Chimera Shadow Garden (in order for him enhance his Ten Shadows Technique), to get the stronger than usual special grade cursed spirit, where he wanted (him/her/them), and he managed to defeat that very same special grade cursed spirit, too. You were surprised to see Megumi conscious again. Ofcourse you're happy for Megumi, because he defeated this really strong special grade cursed spirit, however you ended up wishing in your head that you learned to use Domain Expansion, then the more you thought about it, the more you felt your self confidence was starting to go away. Megumi started to notice it then mentioned out of concern, "Why the long face now, (Any Gender Reader Name)? You were excited and confident earlier and now something is bothering you. Please tell me what happened? I will do my best to be there for you."

You then, decided to explain to Megumi everything you remember. You told him about why you were complacent you were when it comes to fighting the cursed spirits (especially special grade cursed spirits), then you talked about being overconfident that you could defeat the special grade cursed spirit and you couldn't even damage it to the point where you wished you learned Domain Expansion like Megumi did, which you were so upset about the most, so you felt like you did a horrible job on the mission, and you admitted having feelings for Megumi, as well as, he has feelings for you. Megumi then explained out of comfort, "I'm glad to hear you have feelings for me, too. And also please don't be too hard on yourself just, because you couldn't hit the special grade cursed spirit. Yeah, you may have gotten complacent and over confident, however as long as both of us are alive, the cursed spirit is killed, and the mission is completed, that's what matters. And you atleast kept (him/her/them) distracted long enough for me to use my Chimera Shadow Garden, Domain Expansion to kill the bastard. And you mean very, much to me anyways. That's right. You just mean very, much to me, (Any Gender Reader)".

As you were feeling more positive about yourself and started to blush, Megumi used his right hand to gently touch your right check, then you began to notice him blush as well. The next thing both you and Megumi did was kiss eachother. It somehow felt right for both you and Megumi. "Okay, (Any Gender Reader Name). We should head over to my place and you can spend the night my place, if that's okay with you.", Megumi suggested. You basically told him yes and went with Megumi to leave the forest and went straight to Megumi's place.

After you and Megumi went inside his place, he gave you a tour around his place, then after the tour he decided to cook you Mochi and your favorite food(s), then he decided to make (a non-alcoholic beverage of reader's choice) for you drink. After both you and Megumi went to his room to sleep for the night, he asked if you would like to cuddle with him for a while, which you were fine with, as well, so both you and Megumi ended up falling asleep while cuddling for the rest of the night. This is everything you and Megumi had ever wanted for a long time and that's a dream come true for the both of you.

tw agere hate (not from me, i regress /gen /srs) my partner isn't at all supportive of my regression, he called it a mental disorder when i asked if he knew what it was he's known to be uh- not hateful per se but just- not as accepting/inclusive all the time and tends to make jokes about those sorts of things not like discrimination but just these days i've kinda been saying 'let people live' and he uh is the exact opposite, if you catch my drift (i'm not the best with words but can send another ask explaining further what i mean if need be ^^;) it makes me sad and upset, and i'm having trouble dealing with it. i'm a very sensitive and affectionate person, i like to think i love with my whole heart and soul- and it feels like i rarely ever get it back.

Hi everyone! I'm a heteroromantic (sex repulsed) ace girl and my pronouns are she/her. I have recently discovered the fact that I am asexual, or at the very least on the ace spectrum, so I have dived into the aspec corner of the internet in hopes of finding other kind humans that I can relate to, so I want to thank you in advance for taking the time to read my questions <3

I also apologize if I used any of the terms in an incorrect way, it was not my intention to do so or to cause any harm. :D

Before I start, I am going to provide some backstory. I am in my late teens, and I've only had one boyfriend so far, that I refused to be intimate with because I didn't feel comfortable doing that, and he didn't believe that I was sex repulsed and that I genuinely felt uncomfortable with even attempting to be intimate, and thought I was lying to him and simply didn't like him enough, among other things.

Fast forward, we have broken up (thank god), however after focusing on myself and exploring my identity, after much thinking I have come to the realisation that I am asexual. However, also after a lot of thinking, I realised that I found conversations about sex made me feel extremely uncomfortable or even mad? The descriptions didn't make me feel uncomfortable, nor do I judge people who do partake in physical intimacy, it's more that the anger is kind of directed at myself? Almost like I'm mad at myself for not wanting sex, even though I should? It feels like I'm being mad at myself for not not wanting something I should be wanting just like all other people, if that makes sense. I also sometimes feel sadness and shame knowing that my identity as an asexual person and sex repulsion is not going to be accepted if I enter a relationship again, or at least not in the country that I live in, since people aren't quite aware of the existence of aspec people. Is that some sort of an internalized acephobia, or perhaps some form of bad effect of my former relationship? Or is it an universal ace experience?

First of all, don't worry at all, you haven't said anything wrong! Second of all, this is sooo common for ace people to feel.

Being ace can be really isolating, and it's hard when you don't have anyone who understands how you feel, but you have to remember that wherever you are, you're not alone. Even if you don't know any out ace people, it doesn't mean they don't exist.

Sex repulsion can make conversations about sex and sexuality difficult or uncomfortable in a variety of ways, including feelings of anger, but I'm sorry you're feeling that directed towards yourself, I know that can be hard to deal with. Even I struggle with internalised acephobia at times because a lot of the queer community I interact with is allosexual, who I can't fully identify with, so I understand how tough it can be to feel like you don't want to or even that you shouldn't be ace. Having that robust community and support system, even if that just means following ace blogs or having online friends who are ace if you can't find any ace people irl right now, can really help you to feel happier and more comfortable and confident in your asexuality.

I'd also say, although it might not seem like it right now, there are plenty of people out there who don't need to have sex in a romantic relationship, and just because your past relationship didn't respect that, doesn't mean no one ever will. It might be a little harder to find those people, but I promise you there are so many ace people who find accepting partners, both in other ace people, and in allo people too.

I love Kitty so much and I think she needs to be used far more often in things.

For the Victorian character at least there's usually this tendency to assume Kitty is this 'fallen woman' who was basically a 'respectable' kind of woman until Gruner seduced and discarded her which is not how I tend to see her. I think in any universe Kitty is probably going to be a sex worker of some kind anyway, I mean before Gruner turns up in her life (in the modern day that's probably going to be more in the videos and online stuff line of sex work though not so much face to face physical stuff). I think also, she's not ashamed of that. And she likes sex and she likes dominating people sexually too so it would seem to her that if she can make money (and quite a lot of money probably) out of these things that she does enjoy then she'd be a fool not to do that.

I think she is young but has kind of had to grow up very quickly, so she's been very mature for her age for a long time, maybe because her family was very poor, maybe because they disowned her, and she is very self-confident, very outspoken, very tough, but she's still kind and caring; however hard her life has been that kindness and compassion has not been burnt out of her.

I think an element of Kitty's characterisation in the Granada episode where it was revealed that Gruner had injured and disfigured her has some merit - it may not be exactly like for like, what she does to him, but I think he probably did do something to her first that left her physically scarred, I really don't think Gruner is just this upper class guy who likes 'ruining pure women' by seducing them, I think he is basically the closest thing in the canon (when ACD couldn't actually be too explicit about it) to a serial killer (and I do believe completely ACD did base him on a real multiple murderer and possible serial killer), and that she disfigures him rather than trying to outright kill him does suggest that he disfigured her in some way first.

I do always love that Kitty helps bring Gruner down and helps stop him from harming another young woman even though that woman is very unpleasant, but she also has her own revenge on him with the acid. For her to commit an act like that which is so horrendous, I think he's done far more to her than just seduce her, it was something much worse than that. But she is a survivor not just his victim.

Kitty does get the most interaction with Moran in my stories and I think they are very good friends and practically consider each other family. Their relationship has been a sexual one sometimes but I think they're not romantically compatible - I think Kitty is aromantic and she doesn't want a committed partner, I think she doesn't even like sleeping with someone else, she likes sex a lot but after that she wants her own space and to not end up being tied to someone in a way that would feel stifling to her. (I also love the idea that she's one of those aromantics who gives great advice about dating and romantic relationships.)

I like the idea too that even though she's younger than he is, she acts almost like Moran's older sister sometimes and in some ways is a lot more 'street smart' than Moran is, because Moran has come from a background that was all private school, university, army, all these institutions where he was quite sheltered from 'ordinary' life, even though he has been through immense hardship himself and has rebelled against all of that a lot, he does have a sort of naïve quality to him and probably in the modern day even more than the Victorian era I think he does struggle with fitting in ordinary life. But Kitty didn't have that same privileged background and she knows a lot more about ordinary life and how to survive it and I do see her as finding Moran by accident and being the only person who takes any notice of him and realising how much distress he's in (in my story he's literally having a panic attack when she first sees him) and she helps him and looks after him and he adores her from that moment on really and they become very protective of each other.

I don't want her to be just like a 'tart with a heart' character where her decency is there to be kind of ironic because she's an """immoral""" woman. It's clear from the canon though, Kitty is not someone who is considered a 'respectable lady', but even there she is treated with respect by the major characters including Holmes. And also she has been through a lot but her vindictiveness towards Gruner is very much justified (even Watson, who seems especially horrified by what she does to Gruner, seems to think she was justified in doing it) and she is still a decent person in spite of whatever Gruner did to her, her actions aren't really portrayed as just malicious, it is definitely implied that he did something terrible to push her that far.

I do like that in the canon Holmes interacts with her and seems to like her and support her even after she throws the acid on Gruner. I always love the idea of her interacting with Moriarty too though and him being very impressed by her and liking her when Moriarty is not really a man who is easy to impress and he doesn't like many people. In my story too she's definitely suspicious of Moriarty's motives and concerned about whether Moran is safe with him and I do see her wanting to check Moriarty out herself. I do think Kitty to some degree has to do the kind of thing that Holmes does, that Moriarty too does - she has to be able to read people and read the subtle signs and clues about them, because as a young woman and as a sex worker she can be very vulnerable at times and there may be moments when her safety could depend on her reading the most subtle of signs about someone. So with Moriarty, she probably does see through him faster than even Moran does, she sees that he's not just a maths professor he is something else, something realistically much worse, but I don't think she's actually ever afraid of him (Gruner I think would frighten her, though somehow or other she does end up too heavily involved with him later and of course comes to regret that).

Also I was joking before about giving Moran a Chihuahua but I have given Kitty a Chihuahua in my story, I think she is the type to have a small feisty dog like that (but that is well trained and well behaved).

Hi! This is not relevant to your current political discussions at all and you def don't have to answer this! But you're the only person I know who is an Academic™ and I was hoping for some input from somebody with a more balanced view of college education. For some context: I enrolled in a VERY shitty online college when I was 16 and entirely screwed my chances of getting freshman scholarships to other colleges now that I'm 18 and trying to switch schools. Additionally, that college only has national accreditation and not regional so my credits won't transfer anywhere and my family's EFC is too high to get any federal help. (but my parents don't actually have money to help me pay for school)

All of this puts me in a super fun situation where I can't get almost anything except for competitive private scholarships and student loans. So it seems like I have 2 options: (1) I could take out thousands in student loans to go to a cheap university out of state (living with my brother to save on dorming) and get my bachelor's degree or (2) Go to my local community college, try to get their institutional scholarships, and probably get through college without debt. Big downside to this is that I would probably end up living at home and that's the very last thing I wanted.

I'm obvs not asking you to make a decision for me, but I was hoping you'd have some input that could help. I'm really worried that if I go to cc that I'll end up in another dead end job making $12 an hour like most people around me, but I also don't know if 20k+ in student loan debt for a degree is worth it when college degrees are (according to the headlines) getting less valuable in the job market. Any thoughts??

Aha, welp. This is indeed a super fun situation (not), and I understand your dilemma, so let's see if we can think it through together.

As someone else who was also DESPERATE to get away from home and live elsewhere during college, I understand the feeling that living at home, and/or attending a community college, would be a terrible disappointment. However, while you might not qualify for federal student aid or government programs, there is often other funding available to help students like you. It might not be full-scholarship-level money, but if you search for educational/student resources for your city/state and see what comes up, you might be presented with some other options. There are foundations, grants, funds to help students who fell through the financial-aid cracks, and while it might not cover everything and you would still have to end up taking out some loans, it would at least be a boost. Competitive private scholarships are often awarded on merit, which can be tough and feel like there's no way you'll measure up, but there ARE community organizations and local lawyers/advocates/educational professionals who are able to help and/or get you some award money on a need basis. So yes, do a little Google digging and see what comes up. Of course, you need to make sure that these resources are legitimate and not like the crappy online college, but that can be done.

Likewise, and while I fully understand that my 18-year-old self would have HATED to hear this: getting through college without debt is not to be underestimated, even if it means you have to live at home for a few more years. If you have to get an associate's degree and possibly work part-time while you're doing it, well, that is an option and might even allow you to save a little money (instead of emerging from college dead-broke like uh, most people). While community college is sometimes looked down on as a "lesser" or "inferior" education (which is stupid), that certainly doesn't mean it has to be a dead end, especially if you take advantage of career counseling, liaisons with local businesses or internship placements, and in general seek opportunities outside of just your main program. There are certainly ways to be proactive about getting both a classroom and a practical education, even if it's not the original degree program or school that you saw yourself attending, so yeah.

Also: you mention attending a cheap university out of state, but is there anything in-state that might work for you? Public universities generally offer lower tuition to in-state residents, so if you do have your heart set on moving away from home and getting a bachelor's degree, you could still explore what options might be available to you in a state university system. You should also email admissions, financial aid, or student-services officers at those institutions, explain your situation, and see what they suggest. They might have internal resources that they can connect you with, you might be able to use high school grades to qualify for some school-specific scholarship money, or anything else. You would be surprised what can happen if you take the initiative and ask for it, because there are certainly plenty of resources inside a university that don't get advertised or public-faced, but are there to be used in some shape or form.

Anyway: these are things for you to think about, and to at least give you something to do to make sure that you've explored all your options before deciding one way or the other. I will say that getting a college degree without debt is something that you should definitely consider, even if it means you might be at home for a few more years (and believe me, I ABSOLUTELY understand the "I've got to get out now!!!" feeling and I know it sucks). But there are certainly other resources for you to explore if you do want to get a bachelor's, and if worse comes to worse, well, you'll have student debt. Lots of other people do as well, and there are flexible repayments, income-driven repayments, and other systems for managing it long-term. It's not ideal, but it's still an option and doesn't have to be the ultimate factor on you deciding what works best and what you want to do.

if only i knew how to simplify everything to answer this, but i truly don't. i'm SUCH a sensitive person and admittedly get upset too easily (hence some of why current events have been particularly hard for me to manage), and i should be on the internet less, but that's difficult for me in a different way since it's my primary communication source/outlet due to circumstances. i've disconnected completely before but it leaves me very alone, it's tough to balance. i have been known to cry over mean-spirited internet discourse or over losing connections, it definitely can get to me and taint my relationship with things at times! so i'm not sure what the solution is except to give yourself affirmations when you need to - which i know is easier said than done - but, like, telling yourself you know why something matters or is special to you, why you feel a certain way, why you find comfort in things you keep close, that what you love and hold onto and find solace in is important, and so on.

you deserve to keep a safety net around what brings you joy and not let the more negative/toxic discourse burn you out, however you can. sometimes that means unfollowing/filtering, sometimes it can mean detaching a bit from fandom spaces, sometimes it's logging off and taking a breather for a while. sometimes it's just going back to the source and remembering what it means to you. we're all hopefully doing our best as we go. when you feel overwhelmed, trust that and practice taking care of yourself and your heart/mind. you're allowed to put up boundaries and you're allowed the clarity of your own emotions and voice and insights. idk if this helps much at all!

mind sharing your full opinion about fallout 76? i love fallout 4 more than anything and tried to play 76 but gave up just because it didn’t strike the same nerve. but I haven’t played it since the first week it came out and haven’t given it another chance since then, so things might’ve changed a whole lot! how do you like it?

but anyways, i actually really enjoy fo76! i haven't played it in a hot minute though due to not wanting to pay stupid ass sony for a subscription to play online, but i do think that like... it doesn't necessarily deserve all the hate it gets

i just think that it mechanically improved on basically every gameplay feature from fallout 4. like, the combat feels better to me, the workshop mechanics feel a lot smoother and make more sense AND i feel more compelled to go out and scavenge for random crafting materials than i did in 4; it just feels more like a little adventure. also the survival mechanics with eating/drinking/diseases/etc are engaging without being oppressive to the gameplay. i also think the people working on it were aware of the criticisms against fo4 wrt the big empty map, and they really did a great job making the map in fo76 feel alive imo. i know the whole no npcs thing was wack for several reasons, but there was something exciting about finding a note on one side of the map that referenced a character whose terminal you read on the opposite end, and it wasn't tied to questing or anything, just a little reward for exploration and engaging with the environment.... just a little thing i enjoy.

however i also fully understand people being underwhelmed by it, and my most major criticisms of fo76 are more tied to it being an mmo than with anything else... like you can't actually make choices that have a material difference in the world because you're playing in a world populated by other people who are making different choices from you. the group questing system is beyond bonked for the same reason, requiring differently instanced quest interiors for each person in a group means that you have to redo the same quest x amount of times per person, because completing it with the group lead doesn't complete it for anyone else. i don't care about this being the case in other mmos i've played a la world of warcraft bc the point of reference for the player character is not a game series where You make an oc who is the Main Character with Influential Choices, but it's just the association with prior fallout games that makes it a tough pill to swallow with 76.

BUT ALSO that being said, fo76 is a lot more engaging if you treat everything you do as a character building moment. it's all rp to me. my oc building her cabin, scavenging for supplies, hiding from super mutants and a scorchbeast in a trailer with your friends. i probably wouldn't play it for the mmo mechanics as an mmo enjoyer, but i feel a lot more connected to the character story beats for my oc than i do with fo4 unfortunately. (however i also live in appalachia irl so take that as you will. im mountain pilled)

idk this isn't coherent at all, just spaghetti at the wall type posting, but i just really enjoy the improvements on the engine's mechanics that fo76 has to offer, and i think it's pretty unfortunate how the game's initial shitty marketing clouded the entire release. (but also i will kind of always maintain that it would have been a better single player game. ough)

also anyone who says it's a pay to win game is literally lying to you. besides cosmetic items, nothing in the atom shop is mechanically necessary to progress the game or build a character. and convenience items are not pay to win lol. also you can unlock atoms by doing daily quests, which is the norm in like. every mmo.

honestly, don't worry yourself at all - this is totally a me problem. i reckon a lot of mentally ill fandom creatives can relate to this: trauma stuff i won't get into can manifest in compulsive people-pleasing, even in spaces that are supposed to be stress-relieving, like fandom! when i used to run that other blog, i would spend hours making content that i didn't really want to make. you end up creating because it makes others happy, so you feel useful, and as an apology for existing: like, a living tax. and that is not a healthy way to live 💖 one of the hardest things you learn in therapy is that you are ultimately in control of your own boundaries, and you don't have to reply to anything online. you don't have to answer an ask, or fill out a request, or participate in a prompt, or make a gift, or give your opinion on a specific topic...yet, it's still so tough to let go of the idea that you're being rude if you say no to a request. but it's never a personal slight! all of the asks in my ask box right now are full of so much love, and passion, and creativity, and i often wish i was one of those people who pumps out ten drabbles a day and can fulfil everyone's deepest, darkest fantasies. but i've been down that road, and it just...isn't for me 😅 i've spent years crafting what i think most will agree is a wholly self-indulgent space, where i get to gush about whatever weird-ass fictional show or character seizes the autism in the right way. that makes me really happy, and it makes me even happier knowing that other people are drawn to it 🥰 i really love interacting with people who have similarly strange interests - and i came in expecting 'Big' Jack Horner to be another niche choice (oh, how wrong i was 😂). i will admit the times where i've accidentally created content for a hugely popular character (looking at you, Warren the Eagle) i have become overwhelmed quickly by the sheer volume and demand. however - this burnout it something i have to manage. i don't believe anyone is imposing on me by sending asks about something they really enjoy!! it's very silly of me to be intimidated by lots of people being excited about a cool, sexy character and wanting to hear my thoughts about him. i'm trying to remember that it's normal for people to have a backlog of requests, and that we're allowed to just...let it sit, or say no, if we don't want to answer. that's okay! tldr; you are very sweet and you've made me feel a lot less stressed about all of this;;; it's my own fault for doing so much in such a short space of time! i'm gonna keep your words in mind and try responding at a more measured pace. i would absolutely love to hear about your Jack headcanons if you're happy to share 🥰💖
