I extend my arms as wide as the ocean, let the sea of people crash through me like waves, coming home to the shore. I open my palms, as wide as my fingers could stretch, bury them under the sand and hold onto the grains my hand could grasp. I am the nipa hut standing still by the seashore on sunny days; people come home when night arrives but they always leave the next day. I used to love vastly and unboundedly like the ocean, with fingers holding onto the idea that love is burying your hands in the sand and keeping things you could grasp; love was coming home and never leaving the next day. Then, you arrived. You arrived like you were once lost and finally found home. You arrived but you left in the morning on the next day. You arrived but you left and my hands could no longer grasp yours. You arrived and made me see how vast is the ocean when I came searching for you because you never came home again. I extended my arms as wide as the ocean, just so you could escape from my embrace. I opened my palms, as wide as my fingers could stretch, buried them on the spaces in your hands just before I finally let go of them. I was the nipa hut standing still by the seashore on sunny days; now, I understand why you left the next day.

How do you love a strong girl?

Answer: You don’t if......

You’re afraid things wouldn’t fall into place because arguments would be everywhere. You think she only cares that she’s always right, so you can’t see that she wants you to correct her, she wants you to look into her eyes and tell her she doesn’t need to be right in everything, because as imperfect as she may seem, you will stay. 

You are hesitant to speak your heart out because you think she hides hers in a concrete box, and that you will only get locked out by doing so. What you don’t know is she forgets she has a mind of her own when you are near, and that she wants your soothing flavor to calm her. 

You don’t want her to see you fail; as if failing will make her run away. You try and try to be strong around her, to appear as nearly perfect as you can, because you think that’s what she wants to see. You have no idea how much she wants to rant, to whine, and be vulnerable after an exhausting day and just cuddle you in, but she won’t and can’t do it because you don’t look fragile and in need of affection at all.

You don’t want her to know your friends, but you want so much for your friends to know her. She’s the smartest girl you know, and you’re scared she won’t want you after knowing you hang with such loud humans. You are afraid that she wants silence every time, not knowing she needs a little fun in her life, too-- and that she has friends louder than yours. 

You think she doesn’t want affection, 

You think she just wants logic and practicality.

You don’t realize she’s a girl, too.

So, how do you love a strong girl?

You just love her. Show her the man that you are. Let her see your weakness and she will let you see hers. Open yourself to her, do not get intimidated because trust me, she wouldn’t have fallen for you if she wasn’t intimidated by how you carry yourself when she first saw you. 

Love her, let her know that she can be fragile and silly and you will still want her---and only her. Tell her she can throw away the facade she’s been wearing all this time. Tell her that you will take care of her in the days she thinks she can’t take care of herself any longer. 

Love her, kiss her in front of your friends because she loves to be a part of that circle. She loves to know parts of you that only your friends can give her. She will love to crack jokes with them and they wouldn’t get intimidated because they would love her. 

She’s strong, and that shouldn’t be a hindrance for you to show her how much you care. 

She’s smart, but that shouldn’t make you keep your mouth shut when she needs your opinion about something.

She’s yours. Treasure her.
