Maddy’s gifts
Bastien - For her husband, Maddy would give a notebook that she had already filled out, inspired by the Christmas gift that he had given her the year before, the print off of his note the day they met. He forgets some things sometimes, her Bastien, he admitted enough when he asked her to be his girlfriend, so she wanted to make sure that he never forgets the best memories. She wrote them all out from her perspective, all of the year, from New Years in Paris, to him being with her destroying Declan’s cabin and freeing herself, to the happiness she felt over the perinwinkle lights, to when they started trying for Frankie, having Thomas and Valerie to dinner, playing with Diablo, Valentine’s Day bondage, finding out they were pregnant,  the fair, their cute easter, going to the site and having an Italian dinner by Chef Bastien, chaos at prom, finding out about Frankie’s invisible power, how proud she was that he was always protecting his family, like when they took care of Abe and those people that tried to keep them apart, New Zealand, how he was her inspiration and strength when she told off Livvy at Willem’s party, how she loved having him close when they recorded the song together, their anniversaries and then everything in between. The last pages were all about Frankie, how she loved seeing him with their girl, how they were going to be the best of friends, and how she honestly wanted to give him another soon just to keep that smile on his face. As well as a new pair of classic black and white converse with ‘Wandering Man’ stitched onto the outer sides. Frankie - A charm for the bracelet she’s putting together to give Frankie when she’s older, her first Christmas, and plenty of cute Christmas themed onesies. Delta&Frank - While they were renovating the basement for the baby, they came across a lot of disturbing things. Maddy found a human skull. A little digging in New Orleans blackmarket things found her someone who would make it into an exploded skull. Valerie - Pearl bracelet with white gold clasp, and a sexy little number for when she inevitably gets her body back. Thomas - A Bag End diorama, showing Bilbo in his study, since Thomas loves it so much. Scout - Industrial style lamp with moveable arms Chip - 1960s Pilots Helmet  and a tactical changing mat. Ray - Crocodile Ring for the same reason as the wives The Wives - Matching necklaces to remind them that the swamps will always remember them, no matter where they are. All six Laveau kids - Bear playmats, bear rattle, collection of soft books Ellie - Vintage 90s Disney Mini-Dress Willem - Spanish Coins from a Museum, fated to the 1600s, believed to be washed up from a shipwreck. Figaro - IT mouthpiece Dale - A sweatshirt. Clopin & Kuzco - Bags upon bags of their favorite food being sent by airdrop to their house. She would have gone through the Funkytown portal but with the curses, it was hard to get anything through. On hold because they’re popping out so often. Piper - Every Queen needs a crown - the moon and binding will all be gold. Victor - Vintage Autopsy saw, curved bonesaw, wire-saw. Zero - A musical theater scratch poster and an ‘Easily Distracted by Dogs’ t-shirt. Koda - A new coffee table for his place, just waiting in NOLA for when the curse is over.

Writing asks :)
4. What’s a word that makes you go absolutely feral?
33. Do you practice any other art besides writing? Does that art ever tie into your writing, or is it entirely separate?
38. What is something about your writing process YOU think is Really Weird? If you are comfortable, please share. If you’re not comfortable, what do you think cats say about us?
What’s a word that makes you go absolutely feral?
Thanks to Beatrix Potter, I have loved "soporific" since I was 5 years old, before I knew how to use it in a sentence.
Do you practice any other art besides writing? Does that art ever tie into your writing, or is it entirely separate?
Yes. Too many. I make miniature dioramas in book nooks. I sew. I make bags. I made jewellery. I build seaglass ornaments and lamps. I do block printing. Right now, within eyeshot, I have a painting in acrylics, a drawing in coloured pencils, the prepped pattern and fabric for a bag and the base of a rug I'm making. But it never overlaps with fic because my drawing style is not one that works with drawing characters freehand.
What is something about your writing process YOU think is Really Weird? If you are comfortable, please share. If you’re not comfortable, what do you think cats say about us?
Honestly? The fact it's usually just me hitting my keyboard, no thoughts, very little forward planning if any. I make it up as I go along and yet, people tell me it seems to be so "well thought out" and so clever and I'm like "......yes..... thinking was a thing I did"

Ok so I was reaserching some stuff for my Denki Mystery Blog, and I happened to find an interesting piece of merch! Acrylic Stands!
It’s precursor was the Acrylic charms first released in 2017:
Tumblr media
A hefty lineup of 8 sets, Osomatsu in Neetland, Steampunk, Musical, Kigurumi, Magical Girl, Akuma Rider, Band and Youkai sets. It was done gacha style, like the game. You didn’t know who you bought until you opened it. (Hence the trading aspect.)
Come winter 2018, to coincide with FesMatsu ‘18, Acrylic figures came back but as stands!
Tumblr media
The 6 sets are
Band Teachers (since the original band set was used in the acrylic charm set)
Princess
Color Gang
Vampire
Denki Mystery
Chinese Food
All of them are in their walking sprites except for the Chinese Food. The bases were generic coming in 6 random colors (both stands and bases were random so ex. Vampire Ichimatsu may come with a purple base or turquoise base and not necessarily a green base.)
Tumblr media
They also released a Diorama set with 6 enemy acrylic stands and 12 slots, perfect to add one of each of your own matsu. The stage background is the anime opening background.
A Vol. 2 was released at the same time:
Tumblr media
Adding 3 more sets to the original release
Sweets
Prince
Musical Dark Past 1 (since the regular musical set was already used as a charm)
bringing a total of 9 sets. This time, the base is properly color coded, but still plain with white polka dots.
I can’t find any info on any 2019 merch (aside from the Almost all illustrations book and Original OST release). But for the 4th anniversary Hesokuri Wars released these dioramas in Fall:
Tumblr media
The Dioramas are based on the attractions and objects you can get at the ingame 4th anniversary campaign for Trashney Land, the acrylic stands you could get are the 3rd Anniversary units (not the 4th surprisingly), that carries 5 dolls of the most popular sets in Hesokuri (Noir, Yakuza, Vampire, Denki Mystery and Musical). Alongside regular parka units. If I’m right you could also swap out the stands with stands from the past two volumes! Allowing you to make your very own Matsu shrine (Oh how I want Juicy and Toshio,,,, hngg)
Also available for Fall 2020 are two more volumes of the acrylic stands!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
10 sets available!
Stage Papa (or Father Magazine Model)
Christmas Vampire
Band (ft. Matsuzo, but without matsuzo himself)
Jobs both sets 1 and set 2
Hesokuri Wars ReMIX (The 4th anniversary units)
Yakuza Wolf
“Werewolf” (smh)
Denki Mystery (Zero)
and last but not the least Matsu Noir!
The bases this time are much more personalized, referencing the aesthetics of the original set (ex. Denki Mystery Zero and Christmas Vampire’s bases are a reference to their promo images posted on the Hesokuri Wars twitter, and Matsu Noir and Yakuza referencing their event campaign images)
Since the only way to get this is through a gacha-styled system, these figurines (esp the much more popular sets) can go for a hefty price. (Denki Mystery,,,, please come home,,,,)
Bonus:
Tumblr media
Turns out the Charms DID comeback but in the form of various items. It seems like there’s only one release although I couldn’t exactly date it, it was most likely released with the 2020 merchandise. The items featured are
Instruments from Band (Jade’s guitar is specifically the one introduced in the Casual Clothes set, Feb 2017)
Umbrellas from Gothic Lolita Princess (May 2018)
Surfboards from Akuma Surfer (Aug 2018)
Firearms from Angel (Nov 2017)
Personal Artifacts from Denki Mystery (Hajime’s Leather Bag isn’t actually seen until Karatsugu’s Episode unit, Feb 2020)
Seems like these sprites are created originally for this merch as most of these specific sprites don’t actually show cleanly in the sets, like the Angel’s Guns or Denki Mystery’s items.
Extra: I’ve seen some people customize their own stands by using the acrylic charmss, not all of them fit the bases though, Musical, Kigurumi, Magical Girl and Band kinda fit if you insert their foot into the hole.
I’ll probably make another post detailing on the other merch (like buttons holy shit a ton of buttons, clear folders, washi tape, notepads etc.)

oooh yeah i got exactly that one!! i got really lucky and bought it second hand
but yeah i'd love to share how it turns out! i ordered some things through aliexpress so it might take ages tho :/
and i decided to go with a black/red/purple color scheme after receiving a dio figurine with those colours 💞
ahh it looks super nice!!! i love choosing a base bag but it’s also SO stressful! i’m really excited to see it anon, some people’s layouts are so inspiring! i love the people who do little dioramas in their bags (i’m also a big fan of the ‘repeating piece of merch/grapevine’ style! <3)

The sun sets, too
On the island there are apple trees and I can always hear the waves. The Penzance River branches into ocean-water pools among the orchards I’ve planted and the ones I have yet to tame. My neighbor Agnes often worries, so I say hello when the sun is setting because I get the sense she’s lonely and doesn’t like the evenings, or maybe endings in general - the finality of things - and I wish I could tell her nothing ends in Animal Crossing, not the orchards nor the tide nor the workout routine our duck friend Scoot does to make each day glow.
But I can’t say that, because New Horizons doesn’t let me. I can only listen and leave and hope she figures this out on her own.
I sound like an asshole because I’ve just finished reading The Sun Also Rises for the first time in years. Hemingway’s connective “and” always sounds like magic until I write it out myself and realize that, maybe, it’s not so easy. I also apologize for the “nors.” I’m not in Pamplona with Jake Barnes and Brett Ashley and I can’t go out to the bars because we’re all stuck inside. I can only daydream by playing Animal Crossing and reading Hemingways’ second novel. I think I love them both.
I named my island Penzance - New Penzance wouldn’t fit - because I envisioned a Wes Anderson diorama of an island getaway. This, my first real Animal Crossing, would be my Moonrise Kingdom, suffused with people who speak plainly about romance because they desperately wish they weren’t romantics. (12-year-old Sam to 12-year-old Suzy: “I love you but you don’t know what you’re talking about.”)
But yesterday I reopened The Sun Also Rises and finished it earlier today, with bouts of Animal Crossing between chapters. Call it an odd double-billing, but the two complement each other well. There’s a languid, rolling quality to the pair that pulls me gently from one to the other, the dreamlike escapism all the more poignant amid the solitude of the past two weeks:
7:00:  I feel whiskers in my nose as my cat Daisy gently nudges me awake.
7:10: Coffee is brewing and my other cat Scarlett is eating breakfast. I turn on my Switch.
7:30: I return from an unnamed island on a biplane flown by a Dodo, my pockets bulging with bamboo shoots and iron nuggets and fish.
8:05: I open The Sun Also Rises to the Shakespeare & Company bookmark I used the night before. Jake and Bill are fishing outside of Burguete and drinking themselves to sleep on the banks of the Irati River. They talk shit about Robert Cohn and Brett Ashley. They meet an English dude named Harris. He also fishes and drinks and sleeps.
9:00: This sojourn in the hills northeast of Pamplona reminds me of my brothers. One is now in Korea. It’s getting late across the world, and I call to tell him goodnight.
9:20: Jake and Bill travel from Burguete to Pamplona on a bus with a group of Basques. They pass around leather bags of wine. Hemingway - as always - obsesses over the weather, and in this chapter the sun is beaming and the air is warm, and I put the book down to watch the passerby on the street two floors below me. Once again there is only the occasional jogger or delivery worker.
9:45: I turn on my Switch. I pull my character out of bed. This is weird, I think. My character doesn’t need sleep.
11:00: Construction on the shop is underway and will be done tomorrow. The Penzance Museum will open as well.
11:10: I begin the chapters about - no, dedicated to - the Festival of San Fermín, and the week-long fiesta in the cafes and wine shops and the bustling arcade of Pamplona. A co-worker today called these chapters “Hemingway at his absolute finest,” and I’m not sure I disagree. They’re a novella of their own, sweeping us along with the crowd from the morning cafes to the bullfights just outside of town, and back to the arcade again before we branch off for naps and private dinners and reconvene in back-alley bars to dance and drink and bump shoulders with strangers who will soon become comrades to our little group.
12:45: I read these chapters again. I imagine the pleasant wine haze of a day among the crowd, unworrying, here in my neighborhood or across the Hudson into the city. I can’t and shouldn’t have days like this now, so The Sun Also Rises will do, until it’s safe to do so again.
2:00: I water my newly planted bamboo shoots. Turns out, they don’t need water. I fish my own Irati for perch.
And so on.
I’ve considered A Farewell To Arms my favorite Hemingway for a while now. Scribner published it only three years after Also Rises, but Hemingway was already more selective in his sentimentality, more assured in his “iceberg” style. Yet reading Also Rises again, I’m struck by how much of a fucking adventure it is. It moves from Paris to Pamplona, up to San Sebastian and back to Paris again. It’s based heavily on a week Hemingway spent in Spain with British and American expatriates, and as in the novel, that week deteriorated among romantic jealousies and petty squabbles. But still - it feels like Hemingway had an absolute blast writing the thing.
That’s not to say it’s without its sobering moments. As is the author’s style, we rarely glimpse the protagonist’s thoughts. One famous passage, however, sees Jake Barnes saying goodnight to Brett Ashley, minutes after he laid crying in bed because he loves her, and she loves him, but that’s all they can do, because a wound from the war left him impotent and they can’t love each other physically.
“It is awfully easy to be hard-boiled about everything in the daytime,” Jake thinks, after watching Brett climb into a cab and ride off into Paris, “but at night it is another thing.”
The passage reminds me of Agnes, my neighbor who gets lonely at night. At least, I imagine she does. Because let’s be honest: it’s my island, and I’m projecting. I’m Agnes. I’m the one who can’t stomach endings, the finality of things, the weight it puts on my chest, the credit-roll farewell of a long TV series, a goodbye at the end of a joy-soaked day I promise not to forget, but know I eventually will anyway.
And of course, there’s that last line. Jake has gone to Madrid to bring Brett back to Paris after her tryst with a young bullfighter has gone awry. Pressed up against Jake in the back of a Spanish cab, Brett turns to him and says “Oh Jake. We could have had such a damned good time together.”
“Yes,” Jake says. “Isn’t it pretty to think so?”
The 2014 Hemingway Library Edition gives us a glance at previous versions of Jake’s response. At first, Hemingway wrote “Isn’t it nice as hell to think so.” Then: “Isn’t it nice to think so.” Somewhere along the line, he finally settled on the knowingly regretful “Isn’t it pretty to think so?” It’s sharp and perfect and it cleaved me in half both times I came to it on the tail end of 250 pages.
I first read this book after a breakup. If you’re lucky enough to have loved someone and unlucky enough to have had to say goodbye, whether suddenly or over many months, that ending line might sting, like it did for me several years ago, and like it did for me this morning. I cry often - I always have - and this quarantine, noble and necessary as it may be, gives me the time and solitude to think about the deaths and breakups and goodbyes of my life. I’m tearing up even now.
Yes, the The Sun Also Rises has ended. But Animal Crossing has not. And it won’t. And it’s here where the unlikely pair diverges, to complement each other all the more, one living on in my head like every great novel, the other resting firmly in my hands, there when I wake up and there as I fall asleep.
That’s the true fantasy of Animal Crossing - the one I feel acutely as someone drawn to endings despite their crushing force: it doesn’t end. There are no goodbyes. Orchards will need pruning and neighbors will ask me favors. I’ll build a fence and make a home and ask Agnes how she’s doing, and of course I’m really asking myself, remembering the Jakes and Bretts and Cohns of my life, the Pamplonas and the Iratis, the wine drunks and red meridian sunsets drawn across the orange-blue skies. And I’ll come back to Penzance tomorrow and the next day, and the rocks will grow back beneath the apple trees while the waves rush in and the tide rolls out and the ocean flattens the sand.

Dream Journal 1
I have been having a recurring nightmare in which I have a series of four dioramas due on Monday for some English class (most definitely not the English Class I am currently in). However, I have approximately no diorama creating materials, it is midnight of the night before they are due, and I have absolutely no idea what the dioramas are supposed to be of. The goal of this dream, I believe, is to collect all of the diorama materials and create the diorama before the deadline (take a shot every time I say diorama). Before I woke up this time, I had found three plastic carrots on the side of the road and two dollhouse beds in a very tall bookshelf. One RA from my old high school had made a big deal about giving me a tiny stick of black clay (which is objectively the least useful color of clay, which I know is why she was willing to give it to me), and another one gave me a ratty amazon box that had clearly sat in the rain for at least two days to serve as the container for my project.
I don’t know what this dream is supposed to tell me. Maybe I should try to make a diorama? My affinity for little things does seem to make this a fitting pastime. But if we are trying to English Class analyze this dream (which I love doing to things that should not be English Class analyzed), the panic and lack of control I felt in the dream do seem to be reminiscent of a certain situation that is currently keeping us trapped indoors. Regardless, I think I am going to make a diorama this break.
11:52 PM
In other news, I spent some time last night designing my next jacket painting, and it is going to look sick (am I still allowed to say that?). I’m going to try to go for a more graphic style, which I think will look cool on a jacket. Here is my (extremely rough) sketch for posterity:
Tumblr media
My mom went to the store and bought like three more bags of flour, even though we told her not to (and they weren’t the small American bags of flour, they were the big boy Indian bags). Sorry Indian people that will run out of roti if quarantine goes on too long, we are set till next April!
I don’t know how to end these things. I have to go tutor some kiddos now. See you later alligator.

What I wore Sunday...taking some time for myself
What I wore Sunday…taking some time for myself
March is the most difficult month for me. It is not really winter anymore but not quite spring yet. I am not really sure what to wear and if I am ‘allowed’ to start wearing my favourite ballerina style flats…
I have been lacking energy lately. Not really sure if this is related to time of the year but I seem to lost my mojo. So in attempt to get it back, I am sharing an outfit that I truly wore…

My stomach hurts really bad right now. So I am going to lay down soon. But today's been a pretty nice day. Did not feel like a day off though.
I hate that my stomach hurts again. My stomach hurt really bad last night and after James friends left it didn't really stop. I washed my face and that helped cool me down at least. But it took like 2 hours before I was comfortable enough to actually sleep. So that sucked. It actually hurts worse tonight but at least I'm in my own bed and can try to deal with pain alone and not bothering James with my whining. Not that he would think that it was annoying but still.
We woke up this morning at 7 and I made him stay in bed until 7:30 because I was exhausted and I didn't want him to get up yet. I actually slept pretty well. And once I was dress I basically just left. I wanted to keep my momentum going because I really wanted to clean the apartment and finish my heart. It was cool out. But I was fine I had a sweater. And biking back to my house is easier because it's a one way that direction.
I got back to my place and unpacked. Laid out my dress for tonight. And then I cleaned. I vacuumed and I Swiffered. I cleaned out the fridge. I Cloroxed the inside of the fridge. I try to just get rid of all the Crows Nest that I've been feeling in the apartment. That took a while and then I worked on my diorama. I hadn't finished something and I didn't realize it. I went to photograph it and realized I had forgotten to make the whole Lantern section. So I quickly did that. I'm actually pretty happy with how it turned out even though I made in about 2 minutes. The rest of it took me a really long time so I'm glad I'm happy with it.
At noon I was ready for my interview. And then 1215 came. And I was like oh maybe she forgot. Which is fine it happens. I sent an email asking if she wanted to reschedule for later this week or meet in person since I live in the neighborhood. And then I actually headed over to the Walters. I wanted to drop off my ID card since I'm not volunteering anymore. And while I was getting ready for that I checked my email and I actually had an email from the teaching position. It looks like they're going to offer me the job but they can't actually do that until they have funding from the city approved. And they're not going to know about that until mid this week. But if all goes well I can be starting on the 22nd. Terrifying but I'm very excited. I am trying not to be too excited because funding could not come through but we got to stay positive.
When I was at the Walter's I left a note for the woman who I was having interview with there as well. And I got complimented on the embroidery I done on my volunteer bag. It was nice talkin to Laurel and then I headed down to Fleet Week.
It was wickedly busy down there. Like not as bad as I guess like City from what I saw but still very bad. I had wanted to go on some of the larger ships that the lines were incredibly long. So I just ended up walking around the outside. I whenever to the city of bismuth which is the Pontoon ship. Honestly the only one I care about. But the line was like 2 hours long. So I decided to just go up to the fence and talk to the guy with big gun. I asked him what the crew size was and we ended up talking for 10 minutes. He kept adjusting his gun and getting the same goofy smile on his face that James does when I talk and get too excited about something. All smiling and blushing. That was my one big flirting moment of the day but I like to tell people that I was flirting with all the sailors. But really I mostly just walked around and people watched. I ran into Chris and said hi. But the girls are just too crazy down there so I headed over to Fell's point.
Still crowded but much less lines. I got to see the Coast Guard Eagle tall ship. And that was cool because I didn't even know that the coaster had a tall ship. I did flirt with the sailors there as well. But mostly I was just fascinated cuz I had no idea that the Coast Guard had sale powered ships still. I mean that has an engine but that's really cool that the Coast Guard has a sail ship. And it was nice to walk around the back. I decided after I saw that one that I didn't even see any of the other ships. I'll probably try to see the godspeed tomorrow since it's right next to Constellation but not ships are letting us go below deck to my knowledge. And really all I care about is what the living spaces look like anyway. So I'm not that torn up about it.
Since I was down at fellas I walked around a little bit. Wanting a couple of the stores. I found a new store that just open today that is all Baltimore theme stuff that I think James would love. It's all novelty shirts and stuff. I like the aesthetic though. And I walked around the Goodwill for a bit too. I didn't have any luck there finding stuff for James apartment or the things I needed. I decided that I really should just go get lunch.
I went down to the harbor again and I had pizza. Listen to a podcast. And then I went to Marshalls to get winter lotion. I decided I want to switch over from Citra sense since its fall now. And had really good luck. I got a philosophy brand in the clearance section that's cream and mint. And I love it. And that's a really expensive Brands usually so it was nice to get it for under $10.
It stopped at constellation and talk to Frank for a while. Dropped off the half of my pizza to have lunch for tomorrow. And after a little bit of wandering around. I went and Build-A-Bear and found a life jacket that I return to the dragon boats. I had it home. I had seen some of the Thunderbirds going over. And that was interesting. But really I was tired. And I need to be in the house for a while just by myself.
I got back here and I took a very long shower. That made me feel a lot better. I basically spent the next two hours lounging in a robe watching TV. Playing with sweet pea. I wasn't exactly sure what time James was coming so I wasn't sure when to start getting ready. But ended up all working out just fine.
He got here about 6. And I had finished putting on my makeup and my dress a few minutes before that. I felt like I look really good tonight. My makeup was just on point and the dress look great and it was pink for the event was perfect. So I felt really good. And James looks super cute too. He always does. He let me do his hair.
We went and grabbed the bus to go to his parents house. I didn't have my charm card because I didn't know that we are going to be taking a paid bus. So he paid for me which was nice of him. We got up to his parents house and his mom had some of her friends there. And she had put out snacks. So we had snacks and talked. I got to talk about art for a while. And his mom had gotten the catalogs are ready for the show so I read through them which was good because I was not going to have a lot of time to read tonight while we were there. It was nice being able to talk about my art for a little bit too. I feel no more confident than when I'm talking about my art.
Me and James walked over to the BMA first. Because the adults were going to be driving. But just down the street we found a box of free stuff and there was a gold-framed mirror. Which if you know anything about me that is one of my favorite things. So he carried it back to his parents house for me. The adults all got a big kick out of that when we walk back in the door. But then we were back to the museum. We sat outside on the bench while we waited for them since they were the ones with the tickets. Or at least the information on how to get in. We watched a bunch of old people coming in and just talk. It was nice. I like to watching all the different people dressed up. A lot of people with John Waters mustaches drawn on or styled. So much pink so much gaudy. It was a blast. My dress was very very low cut so knowing that I was not going to be sticking out because of that was a little bit of a comfort.
They don't got there and we went inside. The line to get into the actual exam it was wicked long. So we all decided since it would have been wait anyway to just go up to the reception part and have snacks. Which worked out really well for me because I was starving and my stomach hurt. We had a bunch of snacks. And then me and James went and got a photo booth photo. He was so awkward looking in the top two photos it basically looked like a high school prom picture. So when the third one I made him dance a second just to get him to smile bigger. And in the last one I kissed him. It was just very sweet. After that we decided to go to the actual exhibit. It was a little bit of wait in line but not a big deal. We ended up being the first ones in in our group going up to the actual line. And then the last ones in when the door is opened. At least for our group. I asked the guy at the front and he said over 700 people to come in already that night. That's wild.
The show itself was fabulous. I would have probably changed the wall color. From the white Cube. But honestly I think for the commentary he was trying to make it worked well. There was one piece that is just a black curtain with sound coming out. It's a fake video installation. And I fucking love that piece. It was probably my favorite piece of the night. But honestly some of the pieces were so good and so instagrammable. I am glad that we're going to be able to go back. And spend more time. And read everything. Because there was just a lot of stuff that I would have liked to spend more time with. I am really glad that we got a picture in front of the have sex in the voting booth button. I apparently caught James off-guard when I kissed him. He was nervous enough about asking someone else. But it was very cute. And honestly the show is great and I can't wait to go back.
We headed out and went and found his parents again. And while we were standing there with his mom John Waters walked right past us. And I kicked my PO up and looked over my shoulder and told him great show. And he said hi to me. And it was just such a surreal moment. He's much shorter than I imagined. I don't know why but I always imagined to be 8 feet tall. And just lanky as all hell. Definitely a highlight of my night.
My stomach still hurt pretty bad though and we had seen the show and had the snacks. I wasn't really interested in choosing too much more than that. So we went to go get the bus. It was a nice ride back even though I was still feeling like complaining. We got back to my apartment and James made me a drink. I mean it's just Crystal Light. But there's something comforting about that because that's something I always drink when I don't feel very good. I jokingly told him I was going to make a handbook for the care and keeping of Jesse. And he said yes please make that. So I might jokingly make that. We'll see.
Sweet P just came over and wormed his way onto my lap. So he is all curled up on me now. Which is nice but I also would really like to go lay down. So I'll give him a couple minutes and then get to bed. I'm working all day tomorrow with Frank. I think I'm going to be doing the firing again and Frank said that he would spot me if I need help. I think it's going to be a fairly busy day. But we'll see what happens. I don't know if consolation itself is being busy or just the pier. We're still caustic money so I don't know if people are actually coming in that much. We'll see. I think it'll still be a pretty good day. Sleep well everyone.

A handbag for every occasion
Tumblr media
Time and time again, I receive requests for a ‘Handbag Collection’ and yet I have never delivered one for two reasons: firstly I think ‘collection’ posts lack substance, they are really boring to write and sometimes read. Secondly I don’t know how to photograph my bags so they fit the aesthetic I typically go for, and that frustrates me.
I have come to a solution, which is more interesting (kind of) and easier to photograph (ish). I don’t think these fashion style posts get a lot of readers because a majority tend to come here for the beauty, but if you do like this sort of writing please do let me know, I want to expand the topics and areas I blog about this year so I appreciate any feedback.
 FOR ANY AND EVERY OCCASION
Louis Vuitton Alma BB Epi Leather Noir £1090
Tumblr media
The ‘baby’ BB in Epi Leather is a LV classic for me, workable on all occasions, discreet branding, perfect size for the petite and includes a detachable and adjustable strap. It is the perfect balance between ‘uptown sophisticate’ and casual for me.
Do you carry a bottle of water daily? This probably won't fit in the Alma BB, it is little and an awkward shape, but all my other essentials fit snug in here.
THE I NEED TO CARRY EVERYTHING TODAY
                                       Goyard St Louis Tote £870
Tumblr media
There is a great danger for me when carrying my St Louis, and that is I throw my life in there, and only realise when my shoulder is breaking from the weight. Another danger is, there are no zips nor compartments, it really is a giant, pricey, immaculately made bin bag.
The plus side is that it does fit your life inside pretty well, the leather straps are very comfy and never slide off your shoulder (like the popular Longchamp Totes). I’m a fan of the Goyard Monogram, and stitching too, it looks very as they say ‘low key’ because it hasn't been as exploited as Gucci or Louis Vuitton. The St Louis is a work of great craftsmanship, and the price does reflect that. When I did use this for University with my laptop and text books inside on some occasions I did notice some damage to the base eventually, a friend of mine was told by a Goyard Client Adviser that the St Louis is not made for such heavy use.
THE CLASSIC COMMUTER
                                            Eastpak Backpack £40.00
Tumblr media
80% of commuters on the tubes, or national rail use backpacks. Fact. Why? The convenience is unmatched- everything is packed neatly and kept secure throughout your journey, it’s handsfree, and if heavy its easier to carry than a tote.
I use mine for University and Work, this means I can pack my Laptop, chargers, a rather large make up bag (see here), lunch, dinner for work, a water bottle and a variety of snacks- all this doesn't even include the front zip compartment! Eastpak is my brand of choice because of durability and quality, constant use has had little effect on my backpack and no extreme weather condition could yet cause it any grief.
THE MINI BUT MIGHTY
                                              Primark Bag £8.00
Tumblr media
Regrettably I purchased this from budget fashion brand Primark a while ago, hence it is unlikely to be found in stores currently. There are similar alternatives there always however, as well as with different brands online and in store- this crossbody reminds me of the Gucci Soho Disco in that it fits just about all the essentials you need, a camera and maybe a snack due to the soft ‘flexy’ faux leather. A plus point is the Zip! Your items are secured and snug!
FOR IMPROMPTU BRUNCH WITH THE GIRLS
Saint Laurent Sac De Jour Baby £1790
Tumblr media
I saw Kylie with a Mauvey Pink Sac De Jour so I bought a Mauvey Pink Sac De Jour. Again regrettably this colour is hard to find, and mine was the only piece when I purchased from the Old Bond St Boutique around 2 years ago.
The baby was the perfect size for myself, it’s there about 25cm in width, with adjustable clips on the sides of the bag so the inner compartment can be widened if needed. The strap was not adjustable at the time of my purchase and I am not aware if this has changed but it is removable. The flexible nature of the bag both due to the clips, and the soft leather means I can carry a good amount, the downside is how open the bag is; the larger sizes can a centre zipped compartment but there was no room for this in the Baby.
...AND FINALLY
I have purposely included my most used and most loved bags as it would not make a lot of sense to recommend others right? I’ve left out my precious Diorama and Chanel Boy- I have not worn them in months because they fit just about nothing inside.
My next purchase? I’m looking at Whistles, Zara or something alike, in an ideal princess world I’d buy a Gucci Dionysus, but like they say it is not about how much money you make- but how much money you save (sadly).
Disclaimer: the photos of the Sac De Jour, Primark Bag and Title Images are my own. Others retrieved from Tumblr.com ALSO prices are as accurate as I could find them to be as of today!

April
Last month has been a month of change for me. As I have mentioned at the beginning of April, I have recently changed my job and although I am still trying to find my feet I am embracing the opportunity I was given. Starting something new is always scary but at the end of the day we can only regret the things we did not do, not the things we tried and failed !
My fashion choices last month have…

The Cameras We Love With Stunning JPEG Images
If you like to shoot for the JPEG and want a camera that will let you back away from photo editing, these are the cameras worth a look.
We recently posted an opinion piece about why you should shoot for the JPEG instead of the RAW. RAW files certainly have their place, and they can allow all manner of edits during post-processing, but not all photographers want to spend countless hours behind their computers: they’d much rather be out shooting. After all, this is what we love to do more than anything. If you’re a photographer who wants to break free from the rigors of editing images, and you just want to shoot and enjoy the images you create, the cameras we rounded up after the break are the ones you need to take a closer look at.
There is no don’t about it; when it comes to getting the absolute most out of your images, editing the RAW files your camera produces is the way to go. Having complete control over your images is great, but it can also be incredibly time-consuming. Unless I am shooting for a client, I find myself aiming to shoot for the JPEG more often than not these days. It’s such a nice feeling to know I don’t have to edit pics every time I take my camera out. Image processors inside modern cameras are incredibly powerful: they can work wonders with your images. When you also consider the film simulations and art filters many manufacturers now include in their cameras, it makes even more sense to have fun with the JPEGS your camera can produce.

A straight, out-of-camera JPEG from the Canon EOS M6 II
All of the cameras we have listed below can produce outstanding JPEGS. You can pick these cameras up, shoot to your heart’s content, and then instantly share your images without having to transfer files to your computer to tweak a myriad of settings. It’s quite liberating. If you want to shoot for the JPEG, check out the cameras below.
Shoot for the JPEG With Fujifilm’s X Pro 3
Tumblr media
When it comes to cameras that produce mind-blowing JPEGS, the Fujifilm X-Pro 3 tops the list. This beautiful, 26.1 megapixel, rangefinder-style camera is packed with gorgeous film simulations that can give your images a unique look right out of the camera. You can mimic some of Fujifilm’s emulsions (Provia, Acros, Velvia, Classic Chrome and more) right out of the box, which means you will love the images it produces and you’ll never have to step near a computer for photo editing if you don’t wish to. Here are the pros and cons from our full review:
Pros
Superia is beautiful (Classic neg)
We love the lack of a major screen
Autofocus can be fine-tuned for different situations
Everyone loves the look of Classic neg
You can push the shadows for forever and get details – the highlights not as much, but they’re still there
The screen helps you stay focused and aware
USB C charging ensures that you can keep using the camera
Video features deliver pretty video
Arguably, you don’t need to edit the RAW files because the JPEGs let you do so much
For street and documentary shooting, the hidden screen will keep you in the zone when shooting
Face detection is fantastic when not trying to track erratic movements
Acros and clarity enhancements are going to make you fall in love with Fujifilm all over again
The Chrome effect for skies is subtle and very nice
Autofocus is fantastic for events and most professional work
Fujifilm’s collection of small primes pair wonderfully with this camera
The best camera to embrace high ISO noise on the market
Using the OVF will prolong battery life at the expense of slower autofocus
This is less of a street camera than a documentary and event shooter’s camera
Multiple exposure mode is a very welcome addition
Very good battery life
Cons
Has problems keeping subjects in focus when they’re continuously moving
When you need the screen, it’s a bit of an annoyance; like when photographing a portrait subject in motion
This camera desperately needed Blackout Free EVF shooting
Touchscreen menu navigation should be on this camera
Autofocus needs improvements
Enhancing the clarity makes the camera take extra time to render the image
The battery life in long term use is about on par with the new Sony Z batteries
For street shooting, the wide and tracking AF area still lets you select a zone, but it shouldn’t. This can throw off shooting in real-life street situations
Shooting from the hip? You may accidentally hit the function button and not the shutter release
Exposure dial needs a locking mechanism
Multiple Exposure mode saves the final images only as JPEGs

Shoot for the JPEG With the Olympus OMD E-M1 III
Tumblr media
Like Fujifilm, Olympus has been bundling unique and creative filters into their cameras for many years. The JPEGS from the E-M1 III are always fantastic, but they can be even better when used in conjunction with filters such as Monochrome, Vintage, Pop Art, Grainy Film, Pinhole, Diorama, and more. We called the E-M1 III a travelers gem, so if you want a camera that can come along with you on your travels and produce images that don’t need to be touched, check out the Olympus E-M1 III. Here are the pros and cons from our full review:
Pros
Feels nice when shooting for a long time
We like the shutter sound
Good continuous autofocus which does tracking
The processor is fantastic
The art filters continue to make Olympus unique amongst other camera brands. Shooting surfers with the cross-process and the vintage filter was so fun. Same with grainy black and white.
Live composite is so incredibly pleasant, along with Starry AF
It survived sand and saltwater
Continuous AF+Tracking works well with wide angles
The custom shooting mode switch on the back is something every adventure brand should have
This is the foundation for an Olympus camera we’d want to bring with us everywhere
Handheld high res shot continues to be one of the best things ever
Face detection works on monkeys
Cons
Battery life in the heat and the cold
C-AF + Tracking is useless with telephoto lenses
Why no touchscreen menus?
Olympus’s menu system continues to give headaches
Some of the parts seem very dated
A top screen LCD could have made shooting easier
Why couldn’t it have Dual UHS-II Card slots?
Above ISO 1600, you really need the art filters to take the most advantage of the otherwise too-grainy sensor
Could really use no blackout in the EVF
We couldn’t find spot metering AF linked to the face (or at least it didn’t work for us)
Buy now: $1,799
Shoot for the JPEG With the Ricoh GR III
Tumblr media
In our review, we said that the JPEG images that came from the Ricoh GR III were so good that the option to be able to shoot in DNG simply wasn’t needed. The color profile simulations that can be used to enhance your images are simply fantastic, and we were overjoyed with the results out of the box. If you want a pocket-friendly APS-C camera that’s perfect for street photography with its 28mm f2.8 lens, the GR III is the way to go. Here are the pros and cons from our full review:
Pros
We are smitten with the JPEGs and the color profile simulations
Snap focus is nice
Sharp image quality
The small size of the camera
Good battery life if you leave the screen off
USB charging
Touchscreen
Image stabilization is nice
Cons
We don’t really care for the RAW files. You may as well just embrace the flaws of the otherwise unique image quality.
Autofocus is very slow: I’m not even sure why it’s there to begin with.
No weather sealing is a big problem.
This camera desperately needed a faster aperture lens. Otherwise, the sensor should have started at ISO 200.
Deep menus
No pop-up flash
Lots of folks have been having issues with firmware updates
Buy now: $899.95
Tumblr media
Captured with the affordable Leica TL2
Pro Tip: When you shoot for the JPEG, the files your camera produces will be much smaller in size when compared to RAW files, but don’t get lulled into a false sense of security because you can still fill an SD card up quite quickly with JPEG images. Always make sure that you have plenty of spare SD cards in your camera bag or on your person so that you always have more storage space for when you max out a card, or if one becomes corrupted.
Shoot for the JPEG With Canon’s EOS M6 Mk II
Tumblr media
The Canon EOS M6 II stole our JPEG loving heart when we reviewed it at the end of 2019. We love the form factor, the 32.5 megapixel sensor is the largest available in any APS-C platform, and it is capable of greatness. Couple it with the image processor that turns out clean, colorful JPEG images that are full of detail, and you have a winner on your hands. Every image in our review was a JPEG straight from the camera: that’s how much we loved the output from the Canon M6 II. Here are the pros and cons from our full review:
Pros
Beautiful colors
The sound of the shutter will appeal to long-time photographers
It feels like a solid, impressive camera
Canon’s implementation of the Touch and Drag AF system is the best it’s ever been with the Canon EOS M6 Mk II
Pretty stellar battery life
You’ve got more megapickles than you need. U DONT NEED MOAR MEGAPICKLES!!!!
Cons
We really wish it were weather sealed
An integrated viewfinder would have put this over the top
Buy now: $849
Shoot for the JPEG With the Olympus OMD EM5 Mark III
Tumblr media
You can expect the same great quality JPEG images from the Olympus E-M5 III as you can from the company’s E-M1 III and E-M1 II thanks to the same sensor, and inclusion of all of the great art filters. The biggest difference is that the E-M5 III is smaller, lighter, and quite a bit cheaper. We loved the gorgeous retro styling of the Olympus E-M5 III, we lauded the weather sealing, and of course, we loved the images it could produce. If you want a Mirrorless camera that has a small form factor and that can pump out great images when you shoot for the JPEG, the E-M5 III might be for you. Here are the pros and cons from our full review:
Pros
Beautiful retro styling
Excellent image quality
Robust weather sealing
Reliable image stabilization
Accurate autofocus
Compact form factor
Built-in Live Composite and 50 MP High Resolution shooting modes are highly effective
Cons
Form factor can be too compact for some
Plasticky build quality
Single UHS-II SD Card slot
Lacks dedicated joystick
Poor battery life
Convoluted menu systems
Buy now: $999
Shoot for the JPEG With the Leica TL2
Tumblr media
When we first got our hands on the Leica TL2, we weren’t quite sure what to make of it, but soon we found out that this little gem of a camera was very good. While we weren’t blown away with the versatility of the RAW files, we loved the JPEGS that this 24.3 Megapixel APS-C Leica produced. The build quality is excellent as you would expect, and it can fire of 7fps with the mechanical shutter and 20fps with the electronic shutter. Pair this camera up with some great L mount glass, get the exposure right in-camera, and enjoy the results that the JPEGS will give you. It’s that simple. Here are the pros and cons from our full review:
Pros
Super solid build quality
Nice, big screen
Simple touchscreen interface, but can get complicated depending on how you configure it
Feels better in the hand than you’d think
Good image quality
Fantastic battery life
Cons
Autofocus is fast, but not fast enough for something like street photography
Buy now: $1,699
Shoot for the JPEG With Fujifilm’s X-T30
Tumblr media
It would be remiss of us to forget about the little Fujifilm that could; the Fujifilm X-T30. This camera is small in size, but it packs a big punch. The little brother to the X-T3 features the same 26.1 Megapixel X-Trans sensor as the X-T3 and the X-Pro 3, and it features all of those glorious Fujifilm simulations as well. Shoot for the JPEG and X-T30 will allow you to back away from the computer and spend more time out shooting, which is what we all want to do. Here are the pros and cons from our full review:
Pros
Solid construction that we’ve come to expect and love about Fujifilm cameras
Compact
Lightweight
Almost everything that made the X-T3 such a hit
Cons
Lacks in-body image stabilization and weather sealing
Rear touchscreen-only tilts up and down
Perhaps a tad too compact
The new joystick is awkwardly placed on the rear of the camera body
Unremarkable battery life
Buy now: $899

Replica Dior Purses As you may know already, we're first going to take a glance at the reference actual vs pretend Dior Lady Lambskin bag picture below. As for the seventh means on how to spot fake Dior Lady Lambskin baggage, we're going to take a look at the actual vs faux Dior Lady baggage for the “DIOR” textual content on the metal emblem. In the faux vs real Dior Lady Lambskin bag picture above, we now have identified how the faux Dior bag has its stitching on the handler wanting too brief and thick. Going to the sixth means on the means to authenticate Dior Lady bags, we're going to take a look at the actual vs fake Dior Lady baggage for the stitching on the handler. In the actual vs pretend Dior Lady bag image above, we now have pointed out how the pretend bag has its “CD” textual content trying too thick. Besides the stitching, you'll have the ability to see how the fake Dior Lady bags’ glossiness and shining in the light are much less pronounced than the shininess of the genuine Dior bag. For instance, 18-MA-0156 signifies that the merchandise was manufactured in May 2016. For instance, the Hermes bag manufactured from crocodile skin is very beautiful in phrases of details. This type of precision workmanship can ensure that it is troublesome to differentiate the true from the false if it isn't for professionals. It is well-recognized that Chanel is a so scorching model name, which you'll by no means deny. It has started to do that in its marketing efforts, having lately announced a relationship with Burberry, which enhances a previous relationship with fashion designer Stella McCartney. When I read the prospectus, the chart above and The RealReal web site, I get the clear impression that the authenticators and the copywriters are different people. There is not any mention of getting two tiers of authenticators. Investors putting up money in The RealReal may make a different determination in the event that they were informed more about how the authentication course of works. At this point, that change in attitude is just a trickle. The finest examples are in a small number of brands, like Nudie Jeans, Taylor Stitch and Eileen Fisher. Nudie provides free repairs of jeans for life and a 20% low cost on new products whenever you turn in an old pair, and you should buy its personal branded used denims in its shops for less than the price of new. Taylor Stitch has a sub-site called Restitch where it buys back its own product and resells it. The textual content could additionally be Dior, or Christian Dior, but the font must be grey, and the black font is faux. 1) The stunning arched handles of the enduring Lady Dior purse are sturdy and keep in place when not being held. Dior wraps the handles of brand name new bags in a paper, whereas replica handles are sometimes wrapped in plastic. 1) One method to spot a faux Dior bag is to verify the stitching. The iconic Cannage quilting seen on many Dior gadgets was inspired by the Napoleon III chairs. 3)The heat stamp should be perfectly centered in the course of the leather-based tag. Unlike many trend homes, Goyard’s leather-based items are available in a spread of various colours, relying on the season and the chosen palette for the present assortment. Hence, The Goyard Tote Dupes have collated several colour combos on your bag from orange, brown, blue, black, gray and plenty of more. In doing so you ought to purchase your much-loved Goyard Dupes and the Goyard inspired bags in a colour which you can use every day. Especially the blue Oblique sample makes individuals really feel very contemporary and advanced at first glance. If you select lv old flowers is luxury, then select Dior presbyopia is excessive cold feel. Compared to replicas, genuine Book Totes have looser stitches while those of the replicas’ are too dense, too excellent. It’s most obvious with the Oblique that I assume counterfeiters will proceed to upgrade as long as Dior continues to make it, making this guide much less related soon in the future. For the past 9 years, Christian Dior has made all of its Lady Dior Cannage baggage with the interior leather tag in the identical colour and material as the skin of the purse. Just like on the genuine Lady Dior bag, the tag says “Christian Dior”, “PARIS” and “Boutique” on three rows. They cross over into so many demographics of colour, race, class, age. That made them the right vehicle for a project like this. That was something I’ve always appreciated in artwork — the means in which Keith Haring, for example, wished his work to be accessible to everyone. It deals in classic gadgets and antique collections, each new and used.Basically, we offer free delivery irrespective of the place you buy, and you can even ask us about our guarantee for top value gadgets. Basically, we provide free shipping no matter the place you buy, and you may also ask us about our guarantee for high worth items.

Creepy America Episode 6: Myths & Legends
Creepy America Episode 6 Myths & Legends Clifton, Virginia
I had a roommate in college, Jonas something-or-other, who tried to get me interested in Dungeons and Dragons. The idea was that you’d make up a character with all these different abilities and stats and whatnot and someone running the game would tell you what was happening and you were supposed to tell them what you wanted to do. Then you’d use some dice and the numbers on paper to figure out if you were successful.
I never really got into it, it was just too strange, but one of the things that was interesting to me was the stats. They were numbers to determine your characteristics, things like Strength, Dexterity, and so on, and there was one for Intelligence and one for Wisdom. Intelligence was supposed to be your regular smarts, like math and history, but Wisdom was your street-smarts, your gut, and it let you do things like notice things in the background and tell if someone was lying.
I liked that, and I feel like it describes the difference between me and Zoey. Zoey wasn’t the smartest; whenever she didn’t understand something, she came to me, and that happened often. But she was wise. It was Zoey who could tell when someone was lying, when something was out of place, and when things weren’t right. If there was something spooky going on, she picked up on it way faster than I did, and to this day I believe that’s why some people can walk through haunted locations and feel nothing while others see shadows and hear screams. Some people are just better attuned. If that truly is the mechanism behind sensitivity to the supernatural, then Zoey was certainly much wiser than I. Virginia alone proved that.
***
We entered Clifton sometime in the afternoon. The town was small, smaller than Hurricane, even. The actual downtown area had less than fifteen buildings in it, and as I pulled off to the side of the road, Zoey stretched in her seat.
“Goodie, lunch time. I could use a break.” she said.
I shook my head. “Nope. This is the next place we’re setting up.”
“Why?” she asked, looking at the small cluster that was Main street. “This place barely has anyone in it.”
“No idea. But it’s on the itinerary.”
She frowned and opened the glove box to retrieve the stack of papers we had our roadmap notes on. After flipping through them, she withdrew a paper and read “Clifton, WV, Creepy America location. Home to the ‘bunny man’ bridge.” She put it back in the stack. “Well, that explains that.”
I groaned. “So you’re telling me that we just spent all that time just to drive somewhere that we know has nothing?”
“I think I’m telling you it’s time for a lunch break.” She opened her car door and climbed out.
Part of me wanted to get back on the road and keep going, but I exited the car with her and crossed the street to a pub-style restaurant. Halfway across the road, though, she stopped.
I paused and looked at her. “You okay?”
“Yeah, just… weird cold spot.” She shivered.
I raised an eyebrow at her, but said nothing and continued into the pub, a large place made out of dark wood. Despite my desire to get back on the road, I couldn’t help but feel my mouth water as the scent of deep fryers and seared meats hit my nose. A sign said “Seat Yourself”, so we took a table near the bar.
At the bar was a man, disheveled and distraught, with red eyes and the shiny trail marks of tears running from the corners of his eyes. He brought the bottle in his hand up to his mouth, swayed and then barked “Anofer!”
A different man behind the bar shook his head. “You’ve had enough Tom.”
“You can’t tell me wha’s enough, not wif’ my daughter in the ground and nobody worryin’ ‘bout the killer.”
“You know that’s not true. The police…”
“The police are blind fools!” he yelled. “I told ‘em who it was. I told ‘em it was the Bunny Man! I saw ‘im, axe an’ all, an’ now Janice is dead an’ everyone thinks I’m crazy, or did it, an’... an’...” he broke down sobbing and the man behind the bar took him by the shoulder and escorted him out.
Zoey and I exchanged looks.
“So…” she began.
I shook my head. “No. We are not staying here.”
“C’mon Liam, why not?”
“Because it’s just going to be a waste of our time. Like the dogman was.”
“The dogman was different.”
“How?”
“There’s just… I don’t know. Call it a hunch.”
I raised an eyebrow. “A hunch?”
“Yeah.” She waited for me to respond, then sighed. “Alright, alright, I know it’s not a lot to go on. But we’re already here, and we already budgeted the time and money to stay here for a bit. So why not?”
I thought about it for a bit, then shrugged. “Alright, I suppose we can stay a bit longer than just lunch.”
***
We couldn’t talk to Tom; when we tracked his house down and asked to interview him, a woman I presumed to be his wife cussed us out then slammed the door in our face. But after asking some of the locals, we learned that Janice was in high school, and, well… you know how high schoolers are.
I’m going to skip most of the interviews, because they simply weren’t very helpful. Too few of the details were corroborated, and too many people spent time talking about irrelevant issues and potential theories. The more kids we talked to, the more obvious it was that we were hearing rumors and not facts.
We did hear some things repeated often enough to seem true. Janice’s body was found out in the woods. The murder weapon was an axe. Janice’s father, Tom, had gone looking for her after she hadn’t come home for several hours after school, and it was him who found the body. He also saw a figure nearby, a tall, bearded man in a bunny suit, standing a ways away with a bloody axe, who disappeared when he looked away for a split second.
And everyone knew who that was: the bunny man.
Which is where things disintegrated into speculation again. The bunny man was a lunatic, he was a prisoner, he was a ghost and he was a hobo who lived out in the woods. It was the typical contradictions you would find among any local legend. Even more problematic, there were some people who thought the bunny man wasn’t real, or at least, Tom’s story wasn’t, and there was a more sinister motive behind it.
There was also a smattering of stuff online. Apparently, there was a weirdo who had threatened some people with an axe while wearing a bunny suit, but that was about it. The main version of the legend, that he escaped an insane asylum into the woods and was never caught, had been thoroughly disproven by a local historian. Beyond that, there was only hear-say.
“Well,” I said as the high-schooler who had been eager to share in his theory that Janice’s former boyfriend was somehow involved scurried off to parts unknown, “that was a bust.”
She frowned at me. “What do you mean?”
“I mean there’s nothing here. Just a children’s campfire tale and an unfortunate dead girl stuck to it.” I started to pack up the camera we had been using back into its carrying case.
“And that means what, exactly? That Tom just made up the story about the axe man in a bunny suit? There’s a lot saner ways to deflect guilt.”
“Well I never said he was sane.”
I started to lift the bag off the ground, but Zoey grabbed my arm, forcing me to look at her.
“Can’t we stay here for a bit longer?” she pleaded. “Please, Liam?”
I sighed. “You still have a hunch, don’t you?”
“...yeah.”
“Alright, but just until tomorrow morning. Once nothing happens, we pack up and leave.”
***
When we made it back to where the R.V. was still parked, there was a small crowd of people gathered at one end of Main Street, blocking the road, backs turned to us to stare at whatever it was that held their attention. Zoey and I traded glances at each other, then moved to join them.
“Alright everyone, I’m going to need you to back up a bit” a man in a brown sherrif’s uniform said, waving his arms in front of the crowd.
“It’s Tom, isn’t it?” someone called.
“Now we don’t know that” the sheriff replied. The unknown voices continued to gossip.
“Well, it’s either him or the bunny man.”
“You can’t believe that nonsense, can you?”
“Well just look at it!”
We were close enough to see now. There, in the middle of the road, was a body. At least, I assume it was a body. By the time we got there, it was covered in a white sheet, edges and corners turning red from soaking in blood.
That was hardly the most interesting part, though.
Surrounding the body on the far side were several stakes in the ground, no higher than three feet in the air. Pinned to them, like some bizarre diorama of Roman crucifixion, were rabbits, nailed into the wood stomach up so that their paws were outstretched in a position of defensive fear. The wounds from these nails all leaked blood into the dirt.
“Look!” the sheriff shouted, face visibly turning red, “you’ve all had a nice oogle. Now I need you to scurry off so we can wall off this scene!”
Begrudgingly, the people left in twos and threes. A breeze passed by and Zoey shivered again.
“Creepy, huh?” I asked as we meandered to one side of the street.
“It’s not that,” she said, shaking her head. “It’s just so damn cold.”
I moved my hand through the air. It didn’t feel too bad; it certainly wasn’t warm, but it was by no means cold. “It feels fine to me.”
“Really? You can’t feel that?”
I shrugged.
“Anyway, that’s not important” she declared with a wave of her hand. “What is important is that there’s something here.”
“Yeah, I can’t argue with you there.” I scratched my head. “But why now? I mean, the bunny man urban legend has been around for decades but this seems to be the first time it’s gotten a verified body count.”
She smirked. “Well, that’s our job, right? Finding out. Question is, where do we start?”
“Well, there was that bridge…” I remarked.
***
Bunny man bridge was… anticlimactic, all things considered. The supposed hot-spot for the maybe maybe-not ghost of the serial killer was little more than a short white brick tunnel than ran under a railroad. It wasn’t even long enough to get properly dark in there. Supposedly he had hung himself here, but I didn’t see how because there was nothing nearby to hang a rope to. But with the whole rabbit-pole thing, I supposed all bets were off.
Originally, we were going to stake the location out in our car, but after only a half hour there, the same sheriff from before rode up and told us that we couldn’t park our car in the middle of a roadway, so we were forced to park it about three miles away at a general store and walk back. He also told us that we couldn’t hang around the bridge, but we ignored that part.
We stayed as the sun went down and continued to stay as the night dragged on. Once the sun had disappeared, the trees lengthened into long shadows, tall and slender entities whose silhouettes hid the inside of the forest from us. What we could see was what was illuminated by the moon and stars, as well as the occasional house light from deep in the woods, shining like  will-o-wisps; a floor of leaves, small ridges and hills, and the dark shapes of man-made signs and fences were all painted in a sheen of gray that is night light.
As ten dragged to eleven and eleven to midnight, the air got oppressively cold. My breath was visible and I was shivering now. I turned to Zoey and cleared my throat. “Ready to…”
“Shh!” She grabbed ahold of my shirt and dragged me into a shadow under the bridge. Her camera was pointed into the woods, so I followed its end and pointed mine at the same spot.
There, in the dim light, was a figure. Tall, how so was impossible to tell, but it was obvious even from this distance. The darkness blocked most of his features, but there was no hiding the most obvious one: the dirty pale purple of a full-body suit with two ragged rabbit ears at the top of it.
Its route took him closer to us and we both stopped breathing, stopped moving as he passed. Now we could see a dark black beard pouring out of the mouth area, dark eyes where the suit was cut out to allow for vision, and a large dull and chipped red axe hanging from his side. His footsteps were shuffling plods that kicked up the leaves. His other hand was dragging something large and brown and with relief I realized it was a deer carcass. Its eyes were stuck in glassy panic and its throat was slit so deep that the dragging almost threatened to tear the head off. He didn’t so much as look at us as he moved deeper into the woods.
Without a word, we followed behind.
It was nerve-wracking. There’s no way to move silently in a forest and every leaf crunch and twig snap sounded like the boom of a cannon. Most of them he ignored but when the noise was particularly loud, he’d stop and look up. We’d have to duck behind a tree or rock and wait until we heard those plodding shuffles again, then quietly resume trailing him. It continued in this way for what must have been hours, but with every moment spent hiding, he got just a bit farther ahead until he crested over a ridge quite a ways away. When we caught up, he was gone.
After waiting five minutes to confirm he was no longer near, Zoey whispered “I think we lost him.”
I nodded. “Time to head back, then.” I turned around and stopped. “Um, where exactly is back?”
She squinted into the night. “I can’t tell, none of this looks familiar to me.”
“Same here.”
She cursed. “Alright, follow me.” Zoey climbed down the ridge and started walking in the direction we came. I walked behind her.
Suddenly, Zoey tensed up and held her hand up to me to stop.
“What?” I asked.
“Movement, up ahead.” She pointed to some trees.
“Maybe it was just a deer?” I couldn’t even convince myself with that tone of voice.
She twirled and stared at a spot behind me. “It’s… circling.”
I swallowed and moved with her, back to back to cover blind spots.
“Do you hear that?” she murmured to me.
“Hear what?” I replied.
“Silence. The animals have gone quiet.”
There was a sudden explosion of leaves and dirt to my left. I spun to face it. It was the bunny man, and up close, he was even more terrifying. Now I could see the wild and mad look in his eye as he swung the axe, blunt-end first, towards me. I yelped and tried to bring my arm in front of it but it was too late. The metal end hit my head with the force of a truck. My ears rang. I saw stars of white in my vision. I tried to blink them away and backpedal, but my foot caught on a branch and I fell. All sounds morphed into weird echoes, like I put my head in a fishbowl, and there was a tunnel of black crawling around the ends of my eyes. I saw the strange bearded rabbit man bend over and grin at me and I just couldn’t take any more.
My eyes forced their way closed.
***
I felt the sensation of warm air licking my face. I twitched my cheek in response and the motion awakened all of my nerve ends, bridging back all my pains and aches in full force. Groaning, I opened my eyes.
I was still in the woods. Around my hands was a rough and scratchy rope tied to the tree at my back, holding me up in an uncomfortable half-sit. In front of me was the orange glow of a campfire, the source of the warmth. Outside of that was just shadow.
I saw movement to my left and I turned to it. The bunny man. He was walking back, axe hanging from one hand, pieces of wood in the other. He threw one into the flames and sat across the fire from me. As he did, he picked up a small object, my camcorder, I realized, and opened it up.
“What is this?” he asked, pointing it at me.
“I-i-it’s a camera."
He stared at me with a total lack of recognition for the words."
"It records things," I clarified.
He pressed a few buttons. I saw the little red recording light come on just as he grunted and threw it away into a pile of leaves, taking a seat across from me at the fire and staring at me.
I did the same. Now, in proper light and with no distractions, I could see the smaller details. He was a white guy, hard to tell in the full-body rabbit suit. The only places his skin showed through were in the various rips and tears in the suit that lived alongside stains of all different colors, as well as his hands, which were large and gnarled. His beard was scraggly and unkempt; chunks of dirt resided in it. And the smell… it was the scent of an outdoor outhouse, only worse.
I got my feet from under me and stood, slipping one or two times from the fatigue as I did so. He watched this awkward display while remaining immobile, following me only with his eyes.
“Wh..who are you?” I asked.
“I’m surprised at you. Can’t you tell?” His voice was deep and rough. It reminded me of the sound of tires on gravel.
“You… you look like the bunny man…”
“There you go then.” He rose and lifted the axe up.
My heart leapt into my chest. “Wait wait! Y-you didn’t answer my question!”
He stopped, towering over me and staring down at my crouched form. He didn’t say anything.
“I mean...” I licked my lips, “you act like you’re him, but the legend looks fake. Mismatched details, and things. A-and this is the first time there’s ever been bodies. So are you him or are you pretending?”
He continued to stare.
“You know,” he said at last, “I wish more of your kind just stopped to think, like you just did. You really have gotten dumber over the years.”
“So you’re not then?” I wanted to keep him talking, mostly to buy time until I could think of a way to escape… but part of me was truly curious.
He turned to his axe, then to me. After making what looked like a shrug, he sat the axe down near the tree and turned away from me. “No, I wasn’t. This flimsy… shell is a matter of necessity. I used to be great, a god, even. Leshy, man of the forest. They worshiped me. They feared and loved me all at the same time. Some even gave their lives in my name with a smile on their face.”
“So what happened?” I twisted my hands around the ropes, looking for weak points.
“The god of light.” He spat on the ground and turned back to me, making me stop my escape attempt. “He and his ilk entered my land, turned my people away from their own religion. There was not enough to sustain my form. I had to hop from one shell to the next, trying to find enough to sustain me.”
“Enough what? Faith?”
He nodded, dark eyes twinkling in the fire light.
“That… that doesn’t make any sense.”
“Maybe not to you.” He jabbed his finger hard into my chest and his tone turned angry. “You were made with a spirit, a life force, so much so that you feel free to waste it on whatever grabs your attention. I am only soul, a personality alone, forced to feed on your scraps like some kind of dog.”
I winced. The area he poked me at was sore; I was sure it was bruised. “So... you’re taking the faith people use on this urban legend? And stirring up more with the murders?”
He nodded once again and grabbed the axe at his feet, beginning to raise it. “It’s a shame I have to kill you. You possess a rare intelligence.”
“Wait! Wait, just please one second, I can help you!”
He lowered the axe to his feet and waited.
I gestured to the camera on the ground with my head. “I m-make stories. I-if you let me go, I can tell people about you. Show you to the world. Get people to believe in you.”
He shook his head and chuckled. Then he laughed, loud and hard. “So that’s your game. You had me going for quite a bit with the clueless act. Very well done. But I won’t let you bind me to a form, not so close to the time of ascension. Though,” he said as he raised the axe above his head, “thank you for removing my guilt for this act, you piece of warlock scum.”
“No, please, I-I-I didn’t…”
A sudden flare of orange filled the forest as a towering pillar of flame suddenly erupted deep into the forest. The bunny man turned around to watch it rise, then glared at me. “Friends of yours? No matter. I’ll be back for you.” He trekked into the woods in the direction of the fire, leaving me alone in the small camp.
I strained against the ropes at my wrist. No use. They were too tightly tied and too thick. Panicked, I scanned the camp for something, anything to help me out. It wouldn’t be too long before he came back.
“Psst!” Zoey’s voice hissed from behind me. I looked back to see her standing behind my tree.
“Zoey?” I whispered. “Was that you?”
“Yeah. If camping with my family has taught me anything, its how to build an irresponsibly large fire.” She withdrew a pocket knife and sawed through the rope. “C’mon, lets go.”
“Wait.” I ran back over to the camera on the ground, picked it up, and then began to follow her. We did an awkward crouch walk through the trees, trying to move fast and stealthy.
“Did you figure out who the hell that is?” Zoey murmured to me.
“Not who, what.” I gripped the camera tightly as I went. “I think he’s an old pagan god of some kind. Needs faith to live. Nobody believes in him any more, which is why he’s squatting out in the bunny man’s skin. He’s stealing that faith.”
Just as I finished, I heard a roar from behind us. No mere growl, this was a roar you would hear on something primal and ancient, like the battle cry of a T-Rex. Hazarding a glance behind me, I saw his silhouette. Except it couldn’t be. No silhouette could reach that tall like that, and you can’t see shadows in the dark.
Or against the night sky.
There was a tug on my shirt as Zoey grabbed me out of my trance and yanked me onto the road, bunny man bridge directly in front of us. “C’mon!” she yelled. “There’s a safe spot two miles up the road!”
“We’re not going to the car?” I asked, wide-eyed.
“Trust me.”
There was another ear-splitting howl behind us and I nodded.
We took off as fast as our legs could carry us. Neither one of us were in particularly good shape but adrenaline made up for the slack and turned us into Olympic sprinters. Around us, the wind started up, whipping the trees around like a hurricane. The shadow continued to chase us, darkening the forest into a void, swallowing any lights from the houses or ambient light from the sky.
Zoey kept going, past the bridge, past the intersection we had our car parked away from, and further north. I pushed myself to follow, but it was getting harder. My lungs burned. My sides felt like stitching threatening to burst and spill my insides out. My legs were burning too, and the protest they gave was making it hard to keep the rhythm up. Zoey was feeling it as well. At one point, she started to stumble and I had to grab her and stand her upright.
And still the shadow continued to advance. It was no more than five feet away now.
“How much further?” I barely managed to pant.
“There!” She pointed to a building about fifty feet away. “We just need to get to the parking lot.” I could barely make it out in the fading light, but I couldn’t see anything special to it. Certainly no reason to believe it could protect us. But I was far beyond questions at this point.
I gave one last push. This wasn’t adrenaline, this was pure willpower at this point. My body was threatening to break, I could feel it. Just to the parking lot, I told myself. Almost. Just to the parking lot…
I bounded over one last hurdle, a small patch of grass, and I was there. I turned around to see Zoey three feet behind, still struggling to make it. The darkness, practically a pure void now, was right on her heels. Some of it had gathered into a hand and was reaching out to grab her, mere inches away from her head.
I reached out my hand and she grabbed it. I pulled with all my might, toppling us both over onto the pavement just as the hand tried to snatch at her. It instead collided with the empty air in a shower of white sparks. Golden-colored crackles of lightning burst from the spot as the sound of sizzling and the smell of fresh ozone ripped through the air, causing the shadows to rush back and retreat inwards until all that was left of the advancing threat was the bunny man,
“You…” His voice quivered with rage. “This is who aids you?”
I couldn’t say anything. The only thing I could do was lay on the pavement and force air into my aching lungs.
He brought his fists up and pounded on the invisible barrier, causing another shower of sparks and lightning. When he lowered his arms, I could see the smoking burns on them.
“I’ll remember your faces” he vowed. “I’ll remember and I’ll tell the Parthenon, old and new. There will be no mercy for warlocks who ally themselves with the god of light.” He turned his back to us and walked into the forest just as the sky began to brighten into the twilight before dawn.
For the longest time, neither of us did anything. We just sprawled on the pavement, gasping for air, feeling the burn of our unhappy muscles. Once my breathing became more controlled and burning sensation faded into a less intense ache, I looked around at my surroundings.
The building was large and white structure, with a spire reaching into the air. I couldn’t read the blue korean letters written above the doors, but the large cross on the steeple let me know where we were.
“A… church?” I gasped.
“Yeah.” Zoey panted for a minute before continuing. “I remember when my old church did this whole ceremony to turn the ground holy before building a new wing. Did the parking lot too.”
“How did you know it would work?”
“I had a hunch” she replied.
I stared at her. Then I laughed. Zoey joined in too, and we filled the morning air with the sound, celebrating the bizarre victory.
I’ve gotten some flak from trusting Zoey’s hunches and her “spooky sense”, as the fans liked to call it. Most people chalked it up to lazy script writing. But those people never got to see it in action, and I did. And it wouldn’t be the last time it saved our lives.
