IRON CROWN as a free comic is now off of wordpress and can be viewed by a neat, robust HTML/CSS/JS comic template called rarebit! effectively nothing has changed for the reader, beyond expecting a little more reliability of uptime over the years.
all comic pages and previously paywalled patreon posts can also be downloaded in this art dump for free, as mentioned in the new author's notes.
the long story:
When talking shop about site/platform moves under this handle, I think it's useful to realize that us (taboo) kink artists live in an actively adversarial internet now, compared to five years ago.
meaning that we have to live with an expectation that 99% of platforms (including registrars and hosting, let alone sns sites) will ban/kick us without warning. this might explain the overly cautious/defensive way we discuss technologies - weighing how likely (and easily) the tool can be used against us vs the perks.
for example: has a harassment mob bullied the platform owners into quietly dropping lolisho artists? trans artists? does the platform/technology have a clear, no-bullshit policy on drawn kink art (specifically third rail kinks like noncon)? does the platform have a long history of hosting r18 doujin artists/hentai publishers with no issue? does the company operate in a nation unfriendly to specific kinks (eg fashkink artists fundamentally incompatible with companies based in germany, when other kinks might be OK?). i talk with a few different groups of artists daily about the above.
but that gets tiring after a while! frankly, the only path that's becoming optimal long-term is (a) putting kink art on your personal site, and if possible, (b) self hosting the whole thing entirely, while (c) complementing your site with physical merch since it's much harder to destroy in one go.
with that said - I've been slowly re-designing all of my pages/sub-domains as compact 'bug out bags'. lean, efficiently packed with the essentials, and very easy to save and re-upload to a new host/registrar near instantly (and eventually, be friendly to self-hosting bandwidth costs since that's now a distant goal).
how does this look in theory, you ask?
zero dependencies. the whole IRON CROWN comic subdomain is three JS files, a few HTML files, one CSS file, and images. that's it.
no updates that can be trojan horse'd. I'm not even talking about malware though that's included; I'm talking about wordpress (owned by the same owners as tumblr cough) slipping in AI opt-outs in a plug-in that's turned on by default. I used to think wordpress was safe from these shenanigans because wordpress-as-a-CMS could be separate from wordpress-as-a-domain; I was wrong. they'll get you through updates.
robust reliability through the KISS principle. keep it simple stupid. malware/DDOS'ing has an infinitively harder time affecting something that doesn't have a login page/interactive forms. You can't be affected by an open source platform suddenly folding, because your "starter" template is contained files saved on your desktop (and hopefully multiple backups...). etc.
so how does this look in practice?
To be fair, you're often trading convenient new shiny UI/tools for a clunkier back-end experience. but i think it's a mistake to think your art site has to look like a MIT professor's page from 1999.
with IRON CROWN, I've effectively replicated it from a (quite good) comic template in wordpress to 98% of the same layout in pure HTML/CSS/JS via rarebit. Should rarebit's website go "poof", I've got the initial zip download of the template to re-use for other sites.
I frankly have a hard time recommending rarebit for an actively updating webcomic since you personally might be trading too many advantages like SEO tools, RSS feeds, etc away - but for a finished webcomic that you want to put in "cold storage" - it's amazing. and exactly what I needed here.

ok so on top of me being a diet film major at school i'm also on the executive staff of my school's college radio station and that combined with omgcp means it's headcanon time!
you're listening to 91.7 WSMU-FM. don't turn that dial!
lardo started doing radio to keep up the promise to do something technical to her parents after becoming an art major. she chose radio tech ops and programming because it was a chill and easy gig that didn't take too much time out of her day. she ended up being pretty decent at her job and later became known for her cable management skills.
jack first met lardo when he was dating camilla and eventually got involved with the station as a graveyard shift dj to hang out with camilla more as friends (#studentathletethings). lardo often took on the late-night shifts for tech ops, which is just making sure the station doesn't go down in the middle of the night, and noticed that Jack wouldn't use the automated software and do everything manually from spinning tracks to doing his talk breaks live. eventually they became friends over "the old days of radio" and jack referred lardo to becoming the smh team manager.
holster acted as a consultant to the promotions and PR team for one of his finals and observed a morning shift as part of the project. the "bro, we should start a podcast" part of his brain was promptly activated and convinced ransom to do a morning show with him. they mostly talk about college sports and get very heated over college hockey and how much cornell has fallen as a hockey team.
shitty grew up listening to wsmu and used radio as another way to be rebellious against his family. he appreciates the community service and outreach the station does and is ranked the best voice on the station. he hosts a show about local music in samwell and the greater boston area.
bitty joined the promo team after smh found out about his blog and convinced him to join radio after they all realized they did radio together. eventually he became the webmaster of the station's website because he was the only one other than shitty that knew how to use wordpress. his ego grew after he forced hosts to write blog posts during their shifts for the station website and be active on twitter.
chowder used to dj local events in high school and was a pretty decent dj and producer back in the day. when he found out the rest of the team was pretty much doing radio he convinced a radio show about live dj sets boiler room-style.
(side note: farmer finds out about chowder's secret life as a dj through a girl on the volleyball team who's friends with a wsmu sportscaster who knows holster.)
dex found himself working in tech ops after a freak accident involving the station's backup recording software went down. he ended up staying because it's the only non-hockey or non-school thing he had.
nursey was approached to be on the station's student spotlight show for his poetry and found out that the whole team was working on the station. he then romanticized the image of analog radio in his mind and what being a late-night DJ was like. he immediately switched to a mid-day jazz shift the next semester.
i swear i have more but i still have fics i need to write before posting more LMAO

How to Quickly Duplicate a Page in WordPress for Easy Reuse
Duplicating a page in WordPress is a fast and efficient way to replicate content or layouts without having to start from scratch. WordPress itself doesn’t offer an option for this, but with the right approach, it’s easy to learn how to duplicate an entire page in WordPress. For a step-by-step guide, check out our article on How to Duplicate a Page in WordPress.
Why Duplicating a Page is Useful
There are several reasons you might want to duplicate a page:
You need a similar layout for different pages on your site.
You want to quickly create landing pages for marketing campaigns.
You’re making updates to a page but want to keep the original version as a backup.
How to Duplicate an Entire Page in WordPress
The two main ways to duplicate a page in WordPress are through plugins or manually copying content.
Duplicating with a Plugin
Using a plugin is the easiest and quickest method to make a duplicate page. Here’s how:
Install and activate a plugin like "Duplicate Post" or "Duplicate Page."
Go to your WordPress dashboard and navigate to "Pages."
Hover over the page you wish to duplicate and click on "Clone" or "Duplicate."
A new draft will be created with the same content, layout, and settings as the original.
This method ensures you don’t miss any important page settings or SEO configurations.
Manually Copying a Page
Another option is to manually duplicate a page by copying the content from the original page into a new draft. However, you’ll need to reapply any settings like SEO, featured images, or custom templates.
How Do I Duplicate a WordPress Site?
If you need to go beyond just a page and duplicate your entire WordPress site, tools like "Duplicator" or "All-in-One WP Migration" are designed for this purpose. To duplicate a WordPress site, you’ll need to:
Install one of these migration plugins.
Export your current site’s data.
Import the site backup into a new WordPress installation.
Make adjustments to URLs and settings as needed for the new site environment.
This method will give you a complete copy of your site, including all content, settings, and plugins.
Best Practices for Duplicating Pages
Duplicating pages can be a powerful tool in your website management. Whether for A/B testing, marketing campaigns, or simply saving time, knowing how to duplicate an entire page or even a full site can help streamline your workflow. Keep in mind that using plugins for this task is much faster than manually duplicating content, especially if you’re handling multiple pages.
Conclusion
Duplicating a page in WordPress is a simple process, especially with the right tools. Whether using a plugin or doing it manually, the ability to easily replicate content can save you time and effort. For more details on how to duplicate an entire page in WordPress, check out our full guide on How to Duplicate a Page in WordPress.

The Heroes' Guild is down
my web-serial, the Heroes' Guild, (powered by wordpress) stopped allowing me to update or edit it in mid-april. I've talked about this a bit on my main @poore-choice-of-words. It hasn't been fun.
I have come to the conclusion that I don't want to trust any website builder, and instead will be learning how to code my own website, so that if it breaks again, I will know what code went into it, and probably have backup copies in case it's the result of a hack.
This blog will be for any major updates in relation to the site rebuild, and probably website updates once it's finally back up.
I'm sorry I never archived the site. That will go on the to-do list once it's back up. In the meantime, sit tight, feel free to ask anything to do with the Heroes' Guild.

welp, i have tentatively set up a wordpress to hold some of my fics. everyones always sort of talking about how its good to have something like this in case another one of the big social media platforms goes down, so i guess is tumblr ever starts properly sinking titanic style this is where you can keep a tab on me.
currently the website just has a few of my finished fics on it (the once i've done bookbinding for and therefore have fun covers to use as feature images 😂) but i might eventually try to expand it to be a backup of some of my original tumblrposts - things like my long headcanon rambles and my fic rec lists and the likes. we'll see, it depends how readily i take to website editing.
so yeah. that's what i was up to this morning i guess. don't worry, i'm not making a switch to any other social media site, i fully plan to be on tumblr until its disassembled for scrap metal, but still. having backups doesn't hurt i guess.
#te talks#wordpress#well i guess is anyone has any sudden and important warnings to give me about content on wordpress being fed into ai or being their#proprietary content or something this is the time to tell me#i tried to do some poking around about their policies but its pretty opaque

Working on moving on from Twitter also how do social media work yeah????
So, the last week and this week have been wild, eh?
My stress levels have increased badly over the past few days just seeing the fallout of the latest Twitter debacle. I feel now is the time for me to just let go of Twitter completely.
If you follow me on Twitter (either through Worldofrelics or PenwrytheArts), I thank you for following, sharing, and liking my art. I'm not a large artist, but I am thankful for every small interaction I get for my art! Even with a few (even major) setbacks, I still had fun interacting with other artists there.
I know I don't have to write all this over the Twitter thing, but I have spent six years there as PenwrytheArts and another year and a half as Worldofrelics. I want to say thank you to everyone who supported me and my art! And, also, if you are also stressed over this whole thing, remember you are not alone. Things will be okay!
Now then, what's next? Well, I just started backups on my accounts and, hopefully, if Twitter does not do another fuckywucky, I'll get them soon. I'll slow down on art and lore posts on my Twitter accounts, only to post the occasional reminder that I'm on other platforms. Since Twitter deletes inactive accounts after 30 days, I cannot make either of my accounts into art archives. I'm looking at WordPress as a place for uploading an archive of my art and the Internet Archive to upload my art and tweets from Twitter.
Once the archives are created, the reminders will cease and I'll just let Twitter's inactive account policy take my accounts.
Tumblr (Penwrythe) is where I will be the most active. For my other accounts, I'm thinking about reviewing how I upload my stuff online.
Tumblr (main) will have most of my activity once I close down my Twitter accounts.
Tumblr, Newgrounds, Blogger, Cohost, Pillowfort, and Artfol will have a combination of both final art and work-in-progress stuff since they have blogging formats like Tumblr. All these will have similar posts between them.
Gallery-wise for completed art: that will be my portfolio, Behance (once I figure out how to set it up), Instagram, Newgrounds, Toyhouse (for characters), and WordPress. World of Relics content is included in all this by the way, but I like the idea of creating WorldofRelics dev site to show progress, either on Tumblr or WordPress. WorldAnvil is its current home for lore and worldbuilding.
And while I'm currently on DeviantArt, I'm debating on whether to delete it or just keep it as an archive with no new uploads at a certain point. I'm still not sure about the state of that site since they still allow AI art to be uploaded there, along with other issues I have with the site.
Not only that, I'm looking for somewhere to upload stories from World of Relics, like Altostratus. I'm looking at AO3 (for original fiction), WordPress, Wattpad, Toyhouse (I think they allow written work), and WorldAnvil (maybe, some of its story features are behind a paywall, tho). Tumblr, Cohost, and Pillowfort are also obvious choices, but I want to keep my stories on at least three websites to avoid having to visit 10 sites just to make a spelling correction from the original draft.
Anyway, that's the plan going forward! Once again, I'm thankful for everything! Good luck to those who are also moving from Twitter, as well!

Talking about the doujinshi archive blog. Not an actual update or anything, just rambling.
I've been facing the uncomfortable realization that I will not be able to continue this project without creating a full website to support it. As in, a registered domain name with a host, not just a free blog like I have now. Things will be okay as they are for a little while, but it's simply not sustainable in the current form long term.
Space limitation is the big one. WordPress gives you 1 GB to work with as a free member. Until I hosted some of the images elsewhere, I was already at ~25% with just the articles I have now. And that other hosting solution is the equivalent of trying to hold a car together with scotch tape. I'm not sure how long it'll last.
The other is adult content. Obviously I would never translate and share anything illegal or horribly objectionable. As it is now, however, I can't show anything too suggestive (this is a rule set by WordPress), which means I have two options - heavily censoring or leaving content out completely. Though I was somewhat fine with this at first (the Personal Theory IV article is an example of that - I left quite a bit of the spicier details out), I realize I'm doing both my audience and the original work a disservice by doing so. In a way it feels like disrespecting the artist, even. I'll be honest, one of the tipping points that made me write all this up was realizing I would have to censor Fictional Opera, and I REALLY do not want to do that. With upfront and detailed content warnings, I believe I can share just about any work in it's original form.
Moving from a free blog to a website will solve both of these problems. I found a web host that allows mature content and basically unlimited storage, for a fee of course. The learning curve to actually building the site will be pretty steep, but I don't mind that aspect. Plus there are so many more ideas I have that I could bring to fruition - hosting full backups of my scans is a big one.
Is this the right thing to do, though?
I talk a lot about archiving and preservation and sharing old or rare fan works with a larger audience, as if it's this grand ideal. Perhaps it's vain of me to think of what I'm doing as important enough to justify all of this. Is there enough of an audience for it to be more than that? Am I just an idiot with big unrealistic dreams? I don't really know...
I haven't even touched on the money aspect yet, and I probably won't until I decide if it's right to go through with this.
So I'm at a crossroads. I can either fight my way around restrictions, or go all in and create something hopefully really cool - but accept the fact if I go that route, there isn't any going back.

I've had a bad cold for a week. I took three days off last week and two days this week. I went back on my work laptop because none of the new support tickets were being answered and no one was dealing with my existing tickets. There is no backup in place if I'm sick. Tickets just do not get answered.
It really pisses me off how much my company says it's trying to scale but hasn't hired a new support person in three years, yet they continue to take on clients. We haven't been under 70 open tickets in 2023. I work with two fullstack developers and I rely on them to troubleshoot issues with our WordPress plug-in, but there are so many customized versions of the plug-in that they do not know how to fix the idiosyncratic issues clients have with the plug in. So they try but we fired the main developer of the plug in, so no one knows how it works.
Plus I have to train clients on using WordPress and our plug-in, and QA new websites (which was my job three years ago (developing new websites), which puts me further behind on solving tickets.
It's so frustrating and I do not have the headspace and clarity of mind to deal with it right now. I keep coughing up mucus and my nose is constantly running. I'm just so tired of it all. When I feel better I am going to work on my resume and then take classes on fullstack development so I can find employment elsewhere. No one wants to hire a full-time WordPress site manager.
