One of the probable reasons as to why Kaeya didn't arrive on time for Crepus and Diluc when they were attacked was because he, and the knights with him, had no vision, and thus, cannot use a teleport waypoint.

Him receiving his cryo vision when he was supposed to get scorched by Diluc was genuinely the biggest slap to the face given to him by Celestia. It arrived just in time to save HIM.

Even now, the vision only heals and shields him alone as a manifestation of his desire to keep living from that fight... but he can't use it to help others.

Why do we deny canon characteristics of characters?

(long post below cut, no triggers, kind of fandom discourse-related but tries to empathise with both sides?)

(It's rhetorical "we", I am trying to not do it. But I'm 40 and got many things sorted out. Probably still do it anyway, esp around kidnap fam)

Imagine: you suffer. You read about a character that suffers in the exact same way, or at least a way that rings a bell in your heart.

This is you.

So you love them, you try to defend them, they didn't deserve it — you didn't deserve it — extept it turns out they kind of did deserve it. And all the unsaid accusations you felt from people — well turns out for the character they're true. So are they true about you?

Of course it would be most natural to unlink yourself from the character, but that's not how human brain works. also, unlinking it would be very painful and take a lot of time and effort (and still may not work) and often feels like betraying yourself.

So you fight. For your dignity.

So you fight against people correcting you with things that are actually in the book.

…I legit think it's how it works usually. (Of course, echo chambers and unwillingness to factcheck are a thing too, depends on the person probably.)

So when we engage with someone speaking about their beloved character and it's OoC — there are, at least partially, speaking of a part of themselves. And, while it's technically true, telling someone "a part of you commited [insert a Silm-typical deed here] is very painful.

(Aaaand now the rhetorical "you" is again my friend Edennill, because I can't into rhetorics…) When you engage with someone hyping about Sauron, there are two three Saurons in the conversation: yours (obvious. the Númenor stuff and all other stuff), canon (very similar, maybe with more focus on other evil stuff and not Númenor on top position, idk, anyway close), and theirs (a child who wwas told too many times that they are unforgiveable, or something like that + also has flaming hair and cool ring).

What to do with it? I have no idea what to do with it, except the obvious.

I'm looking for ideas.

And yes, people do project on the good characters too, and criticizing those characters hurts in the same way, only it's also factually false (usually, because not all characters are black and white). I know. I don't mean to say that the "good guys" are ok to criticize and the "bad guys" not, or that book canon should be not spoken about.

Maybe the answer is just "don't hate characters to their fans"? (Facts and hate aren't the same, but with facts, there's still a need for compassion and getting a feel when to say what)

Truth is an important thing. Yes. Truth about what's in a book…. still it is a thing worth saying. Especially when the book is as good (even with it's problems and kitchen sinks) as Silm is. But as I said, empathy or something is needed?

I think I've kind of know this for a long time, half-consciously, but today I had a moment when something clicked and things started making much more sense. Like: why people do have takes that are so far from canon and still call the character the same character. It does make sense in the contaxt...

(Also, no: I'm not like that with Melkor, I'm much more aware of my stuff and of what's canon and what not and I can switch between perspectives… But as I said, I'm old. It comes with some amount of wisdom. Funnily I can deal much better with people hating him than hating Maglor. But I can deal with people hating Maglor (filtering too counts as "deal with" ;D) and I can admit all the stuff he did in the book and that he's a coward, and all that (relateable). I just feel sad when people say he deserves all the worst.)

You know what, I want a fic where ikran racing is like a super big thing (think like the Pandoran version of derbies and all that) and is a big part of the culture. Nobody knows what to do with Spider who, being a human, doesn't really stand much of a chance but still seems intent on participating, so they just make him the clan ikran groomer to keep him out of trouble. Enter Neteyam, his best friend Lo'ak's older brother who's on the fast-track to take their father's place as ikran racing champion---or at least he was. Recently he's been having major trouble and things aren't looking good.

Imagine over the next few months Spider, who has like a shit-ton of knowledge about ikrans due to the fact that he's been the caretaker of pretty much all of them since he was knee-high to a grasshopper, helps Neteyam in secret to fix whatever's happening meanwhile they sort of fall in love even though they really shouldn't (for various reasons). Think of all of the themes that could be explored! Think of the angst! Neteyam strikes me as a brooder, so think of all the brooding!

And what's even better? This could also work for all you locorro people out there. Picture, if you will, a Lo'ak who's stuck in the shadow of his father (the greatest ikran racer known to Na'vi) and Neteyam, who seems to be following in the footsteps of their father's greatness. Desperate to prove himself, he comes to Spider for help (let's just say he and his ikran don't really. . . vibe) and Spider agrees despite all of his misgivings and fast-forward through a whole training/bonding/falling in love and finding themselves montage and boom!

How would either of these end? Idk. But man do I want this and if I don't get it I may just have to take matters into my own hands. (For some reason I just dig chill ikran caretaker Spider and high-strung, works himself to the bone to achieve perfection Neteyam or desperate to prove himself despite the fact that both him and his ikran are a mess Lo'ak.)

-Spider is like, THE guy for the Omaticaya's ikran care. It's tradition that if you want to participate in ikran racing then you care for ikran for a year before you complete your iknimaya, but Spider has been doing this shit for years longer than anyone else.

-He's like an expert all of them love him, he's like the Hiccup of the Omaticaya he knows all their weak spots, their favorite foods, things they're allergic too, plants that bother them, their favorite places to be scratched: kid could probably ride everyone's ikran even without a rider, but only a select few people have noticed.

-Toruk Makto is the most famous ikran racer because motherfucker rides a toruk. He doesn't participate on toruk anymore after a big legendary competition, and the only person that rivals him is his equally legendary wife (who's better than him it's just toruk that makes Jake better lol)

-Neytiri is as good as she is because unlike a lot of other ikran riders, she does all the care for her ikran alone. It is something she has instilled in her family, but, they are busy. Busy running and leading their clan. So sometimes, Spider steps in. But still the amount of time they dedicate to their ikran compared to others means it's hard not to notice Spider's expertise

-I love the idea of Neytiri being like "yeah no one but me or Spider can touch my ikran, hands off"

-it's a slow build but that equal passion is their connection

-OBSESSED with the idea of the Neteyam and Spider version (getting too many asks about them, we gotta make a ship name poll lol), my bad if I focused heavily on that I might reblog later with the locorro one.

-Neteyam and his ikran bonded but have they bonded. He NEEDS to live up to the level of precision and skill that his parents have with their ikran. Hell, flying is how his parents fell in love! They go on date nights once a week still to fly together, bonded through their love of the sky. He just can't figure out how to translate his thoughts into actions through his ikran. His too wired and anxious all the time, and his ikran's thoughts are always a mile a minute.

-He knows Neytiri only trusts ONE other person to care for her ikran, and that person doesn't have anything to lose either so he goes to Spider and begs him to keep this a secret and to help.

-Without tsaheylu, Spider's bonds with the ikran are formed through a building of trust, care, empathy, and affection through actions. If Neteyam wants to build a bond and he can't trust his mind or his ikran's mind; maybe he can trust actions.

-Oops the bond is formed between Spider and Neteyam too, they slipped and fell into trust, care, and empathy born of actions!

-Neteyam like "how do my parents fall in love flying, flying is stupid and stressful and scary" and then Spider's wrapping his hands around his waist to encourage him to make his movements lighter and he's like 😳

-the jeytiri parallels i'll kill myself frfr

-Lo'ak is still in his year of ikran care pre iknimaya, so he's just around and bitching all the time in the background about how annoying Neteyam is and how perfect he is and Spider is like 😶 yeah he's so perfect 🤭 he's so annoying.

-Kiri has her ikran but would rather die than race, she feels it's inhumane to make the ikran race without asking them first. So she's just bitching the entire time, moping around Neteyam like "why do we have to race, who would even want to?" and Neteyam just REALIZES Spider does.

-He becomes determined to help him be able to race as well. I haven't decided how yet...

My creative process is like an on and off switch. Due to ADHD I’ll have an idea for a long time decide to map the story out then procrastinate…for a very long time

TBH I get inspired by other people’s fanart and fanfics.

Now pls don't copy your Auntie Caspian over here but I really just do what ever POV I want to do and feel in the moment if I want to change it I just go back and write it all over again if it's not too late.

If I do receive feed back I feel great! I really enjoy seeing comments and stuff and when I don't I feel fine but kinda overlooked if I'm being honest.

Prep the storyline and lore before anything. If you have all that sorted out you'll be given the liberty to choose what you want in the story or not.

When I have block I just make fanart or make the chapters in my head until I make myself so excited that I want to write again.

One thing that I have noticed( other than always finding a way to add Hispanic/Filipino culture in my fics) is that I tend to be very descriptive about surroundings and how the character feels.

Um I'm fairly new so idk about a lot of genres but all I know right now is that I will never make a story where the main character or any characters that have made it to the end to have a bad ending,if that makes sense. Like I want them to be happy after all the trauma I put them through.

Best advice: to plan things out and to have a draft

Worst advice: that I can't wing it. I do think planning is important but sometimes the best ideas come last minute.

Favorite part of writing: that I can put myself in the characters and what they go through and that I can use it as therapy for myself.

Least favorite: actually writing XD jk but kind of not lol. I also don't like how long editing can be but it's more fun when you can do it with a friend/beta reader yk?

It's long I can tell you that. If I don't have block editing is probably whats taking the longest.

I start with the characters and as I find out who the characters are then I make the plot as I see fit for them and how it can make them stronger and better.

YES ABSOLUTELY!!! I hav this OG story I'm working on and I really want it to be published some day and hopefully that day will be reality!

That I have improved and that I have put a few chapters out.

Okay so a small thing I'm doing for my 'What if series' for tts is that I'm making Andrew a good guy and prince of Saporia. and I am also doing a lot of lore for that and giving him an angsty back story.

I'd like to see some Cass and Andrew fanart or some art of the DK cousins which would be Eugene,Cass,Varian and my two OCs Elana and Caspian.

Yah I would re-read fics I haven't because I have a lot to read but I would.

Angsty and wholesome. I wanna try to add a smidge of dark romance but I'm not that good at it so I might practice on that before I publish anything lol.

It's not too long but it can be painful. (if yk yk)

I like them to be honest but not mean when it comes to constructive criticism. and if you have any ideas for the plot or story I honestly would like to hear them out!

She haven't commented ( at least i don't think she has) on a fic but they've helped me brain storm. And it felt nice and cool that I can call her a friend.

If I'm making a second book then yah I like cliffhangers,BUT THEY ARE SO PAINFUL AT THE SAME ASS TIME!!!!

Cass and Andrew scenes,Saporian lore,and Andrew's background. And ofc Erin and Hector moments.

I don't mind prompts.

Look at other people's work.

I'm very enthusiastic,and most of the time others say they can tell lol.

Honestly I don't think I've come across this problem the only thing I have trouble is finding the right words to put the scenes is play.

I write the scenes I'm excited for on paper and then write start to finish on my lap top.

What I think makes me stand out are the characters I create. All of them have either a part of me or have gone through the things I have or are modeled after people in my life.

anyways, quick summary about jackie.

Jackie went through a lot in his living years! going through the 50s to the 80s as a black man in the uk certainly was something! He used to be a genuine sweet and caring kid and now he still cares but hes very jaded by the world. He used to be part of the british black panther party and he has many opinions bout stuff and politics! but he has quited down quite a bit after his embrace.

he has a bit of a shortfuse cuz folk keep threathening him and hurting him so he is quite defensive. sadly he does not have the brains to see yet that he himself also hurts people and he should be a bit nicer to folk sometimes!

He cares tons about his friends and those who he considers fam. he does not enjoy seeing folk get hurt but.... if push comes to shove he will always choose himself. hes all he has. and all he can rely on and nobody is worth destroying himself over. atleast he'd like to think that. he does however often finds himself choosing his friends over himself and he hates it.

EHHHH FASHION WISE. He basically runs a GIANT company called SALMON which both makes ready to wear as haute couture. he is not the sole designer of it al. but he is most well known. he is a bit of a control freak with his company (not much better outside it either) so he will pick up more work than he should resulting in him always stressing about something.

are you named after anyone? No, I don’t think so. I think my dad just didn’t like my almost-name and liked the idea of me being “victorious”. Turns out the only way I’ve lived up to my name is by owning a bunch of dolls, wanting to be treated like a Queen and wanting to meet my Albert.

when was the last time you cried? um. In the shower about a week ago? I had to euthanize my 15 year old dog and I was suddenly struck by the grief of her loss since she’s been in my life for so long.

Road Trip

(sooOOoo this is my first ever little story headcanon prompt thing that I wrote! the thought just popped into my head- what if Thomas and the Sides went on a road trip?- and I had to get it out before it escaped my mind. It’s just a short bit of fluff + funny shenanigans- hope anybody who reads it likes it!)

“GOOOOOOOOOOOD MORNIIIING VIETNAAAAAAA-”

“WE LIVE IN CENTRAL FLORIDA. IT IS FIVE FIFTEEN IN THE MORNING.”

“Well, somebody woke up on the wrong side of the air mattress.”

Logan rubbed his eyes, slowly sitting up from his place on the couch and glancing at the blurry mess of shapes on the floor in front of him. He groggily reached for his glasses on the side table, putting them on and blinking to find an already-dressed Roman, standing with his hands on his hips, grinning broadly down at the dark lump of blankets Logan could only assume was Virgil.

“The side is not important. It’s the fact that the sun is not out,” came the groan from the blanket mound. Roman rolled his eyes and gently nudged it with his foot, the beaming smile refusing to leave his face.

“Oh, come on, Sleeping Broody! When has the sun ever dictated your morning activity?”

“Anybody else want coffee?” Logan glanced up as Patton slowly ambled into the living room from the kitchen, hiding his yawn behind a steaming mug.

“I’d like some,” Logan replied, stretching.

“Did somebody say coffee?” Thomas stumbled down the stairs, hair sticking up wildly. Roman beamed at his friend, throwing his hands in the air dramatically as Thomas hit the bottom landing.

“IT’S ROAD TRIP TIME! Are you ready, Baby Driver?!”

“Not time yet. Coffee first.” Thomas smiled sleepily but pushed past him, nearly tripping over Virgil, who groaned and threw off the blankets. Logan stepped over his unruly mess and followed Thomas’ lead.

The boys had planned this trip for months now. It was a culmination of Roman’s wild thinking, Logan’s planning, Thomas and Patton’s unbridled enthusiasm and love of company, and Virgil’s agreement that if they didn’t do it now, they would probably get too busy to ever do it in the future (his “ever-present pessi-realism,” as Roman had so eloquently put it, had done little to dampen anybody’s mood and had only encouraged them to plan it as soon as possible). It was one of their last (but definitely not the last) great adventures before they started their senior year of college- the final obstacle before officially assimilating into the real world. Between internships, study abroad, and summer theatre programs, the five had carefully and skillfully managed to block out a full four weeks to take a quasi-cross-country road trip.

Through Logan’s love for excellent and meticulous planning, he had mapped every detail of their trip just short of the best gas stations (Patton had gently pulled the laptop from his hands that night and told him to get some much-needed rest). It involved just enough of everybody’s favorite type of fun- from museum tours to beach hopping to roaming city streets to stargazing and then some- and enough bonding downtime to keep the action and adventure in balance with what could be their last summertime relaxation.

Thomas poured two cups of coffee, handing one to Logan, who accepted it gratefully. He could hear Virgil’s muttered cursing as he clambered to his feet and headed off to get changed, much to Roman’s delight.

“Roman, you’re awfully excited for this,” Thomas commented with a grin. “I thought you’d want a bit more beauty sleep?”

“Oh, please! Who can sleep when I have the best road trip playlist ever planned out for us today?!” Roman whipped out his phone, eyes practically sparkling. “It’s got everything- from classic jams to Broadway tunes to the absolute best of modern radio rages from every genre. You guys are gonna love it. I even included things suited for our own little Brendon Worry here.”

“Honestly, Roman, I am quite impressed that you have yet to run out of insults for Virgil over the years,” Logan remarked. Roman grinned.

“You may be the smart one, but creativity is intelligence having fun.”

“I have fun!” Logan protested.

“Sure you do, Necktie.”

“Your chariot awaits, my good sir!” Roman dramatically flung open the door for Virgil, who glared at his companion before clambering into the backseat. Even though they were all pretty much the same size, Virgil was the leanest- meaning he would be sandwiched between Roman and Thomas for the first leg of the drive. Patton, being one of the safer early-morning drivers, would be accompanied up front by Logan, the most attentive navigator. They were using Roman’s “chariot-” a giant gold ‘06 Ford Expedition- to make the long haul up the eastern coast.

Roman hopped in after Virgil and shut the door, leaning into his friend’s space to grab the aux cord from the front. Patton started up the car as Roman playfully ruffled his hair from behind, and Logan checked everything off his list before they were set.

“Savannah, Georgia, here we come!” Patton sang as they headed out.

“You guys are not ready for this playlist,” Roman babbled excitedly, tapping away on his phone. Virgil groaned internally. Seriously? The sun still wasn’t technically “up” yet- the first red hues were just appearing on the horizon.

Virgil jumped nearly a foot out of his seat as a man’s yelling voice came blasting through the speakers. Roman bounced excitedly in his seat, and Thomas burst out laughing.

“SERIOUSLY, Roman?!” Virgil snarled, glaring over. Roman ignored him, instead joining into the first notes from The Circle of Life. Virgil huffed, pulling his hoodie over his head and jamming his headphones over his ears. This was not going to be a good ride if he had to put up with Sir Sing-A-Lot next to him the entire time.

“Oh, come on, Virgil!” Thomas nudged him gently. “Just sing along to a few of them!”

“Maybe once I actually wake up,” he retorted, sinking down and trying to drown out the most enthusiastic modern barbershop quartet to ever exist. He found himself accidentally mouthing a few of the words and glanced up suspiciously, making sure nobody had seen, before continuing to scroll through his phone. If he saw Logan beam up at Patton, he gave no notice.

Virgil had slowly turned off his own music once he realized Roman’s playlist wasn’t entirely Disney on steroids. He gave Roman a grateful grin when even a few of his favorite songs came on, and he even laughed out loud when they all sang along to Wake Me Up Inside with just as much gusto as they did to Defying Gravity. Roman kept encouraging him to sing, but Virgil- ever the shy one- was slightly embarrassed to do so. He mainly stuck to singing the backup parts and had yet to take over a solo like the others. Even Logan had surprised the others when Zero to Hero had come on- he suddenly sang out the first note with such perfect precision that Roman nearly missed the second Muse’s line.

After the final notes of When Will My Life Begin rang out, there was a quiet beat before a trumpet softly filtered through the speakers. Patton gasped, eyes widening, and Thomas’ face lit up with joy. Logan blinked before his face broke out into a familiar grin. Roman smiled broadly, and Virgil frowned for a second.

“Where it began, I can’t begin to knowin’,” Thomas started off, and it clicked. Virgil rolled his eyes, smiling slightly. Of course. They each began to harmonize as Thomas continued, Virgil even joining in here and there. As they followed the crescendo to the chorus, each one ‘reaching out’ to another, Virgil had an idea and smirked.

“Sweet Caroline-”

“BA- BA- BAAAAAAAA… GOOD TIIIIMES NEVERRRR SEEMED SOOO GOOOOODDDDD-”

The other four were stunned into silence as Virgil practically yelled out the interjection before flawlessly continuing to the next line.

“IIIII’VE BEEN INCLIIINED-BA- BA- BAAAAAAAA…. TO BEEELIEEEVE THERE NEVER WOOUULLLLDDD, but... now I…”

Virgil slowly trailed off as he realized nobody else had been singing and glanced around. They were all just… looking at him. Frozen. Even Patton was glancing away from the road, staring into the rearview mirror with a dumbfounded expression on his face.

“What? Neil Diamond is a classic. Shut up,” he grumbled, sinking into his seat again and flipping his hoodie over his hair.

Silence.

And then-

Thomas snickered quietly. And that was it. The other four were gone.

Roman was doubled over in his seat, tears nearly streaming from his face. Logan had his head in his hands, shoulders shaking as he cracked up. Thomas had his head thrown back in his seat, his deep belly laugh cutting out over the others. Patton had to pull over and rest his head on the steering wheel, his high-pitched giggles proving too much to handle. Virgil stared at them in turn, cheeks blazing.

“He- you- I- you just- BA BA BAAA-” Roman could barely speak, cutting himself off with another howl of laughter. At his repetition of Virgil’s interjection, Thomas and Patton were sent into more peals of giggling.

“That was- the greatest thing- I never-” even Logan could barely speak, wiping his eyes under his glasses. “You just- and I didn’t- my god, that… that was the best thing!”

Virgil glanced at all of them and slowly began to join in until he, too, was doubled over in his seat.

Roman added the song to the playlist again. This was going to be the best road trip.
