Why This Doesn’t Mean Destiel: Part 2 - Dean Wrapping up Castiel's Corpse

Okay, so I saw this take floating around Twitter and Tumblr again in the last week or so: if Destiel isn’t canon then why did they have Dean wrap up Castiel's body in 13x01? This obviously means they’re married became because this is a ritual for widows in ���. You get it. Well, allow me to offer my rebuttals to this totally unbiased idea. Now, I know hellers will never listen or care because they have their heads buried too far in the Destiel quicksand to ever see the light, but honestly, I just like to argue against takes that show a lack of media literacy, or takes that deliberately ignore the rest if the text, especially when it’s easy to do.

Arguments and screen shots under the cut due to length.

First: Let’s go with the Wincest reasons, just for funsies, and because I know it would piss hellers off. Dean can’t be married to Cass because, in Season 8, he already married Sam in a hand-fasting ritual. In a church. In front of a witness (Crowley). And despite some rough times in Seasons 9 abd 10, they never did get a divorce.

And:

So, if we need to put romantic significance on a moment like Dean wrapping Cass' body up for burning, then we also need to put romantic significance on Sam and Dean exchanging promises of devotion in a church (wedding), especially when the later is a very popular Western tradition and Suoernatural does, in fact, take place in the Western world. "But they’re brothers!" I might hear you cry is disdain. Well, Sam and Dean are weird, so there is that. But, it’s true, they are brothers, so they aren’t technically married in a romantic sense. But, neither are Cass and Dean. Dean considers Cass like a brother, too (which he has said more than once). He has also never referred to Cass and himself like a couple, even in passing or as a joke. In fact, he’s taken exception to the very suggestion (10x05). Thus, it’s not a romantic gesture on his part, but a familial gesture, a brothers in arms gesture.

Second: if Dean wrapping Castiel’s body can only be read as romantic in nature then how do we explain all of these moments:

1) Is it Sam or Dean who are in love with their dad? Or did they prepare John for burning together? Or did they get someone else to wrap him up before they burned him, so as to avoid the primarily spousal burial ritual from another culture that would have implied incest?

2) I guess nodoby could have had any romantic feelings for Ellen or Jo because, seeing as they got blown up, and didn’t have bodies to lovingly prepare before the ritual hunters cremation. Sucks to be them, I guess.

3) I guess Dean had to be in love with Charlie, even though that idea is not allowed because she’s a lesbian, since someone had to prepare Charlie’s body. Or was it Sam? It certainly looks like both of them where dealing with her body. No wait! Maybe Castiel did it, because he’s an angel so it doesn’t count. But, then it does count, but only if Dean is doing it for him... ?

4) What about Asa Fox and the other hunters who died in 12x06? Who was in love with them?!! Asa's body was wrapped up before Jody got to the wake, and she was the closest to being in a romantic relationship with him.

5) Oh no, who's in love with Mary? Which of her deviant sons prepped her before cremation? Or did Castiel do it? But, again, that would mean he’s in love with her. If only preparing somoncy's body before cremation didn’t only mean a character was in love with them. But, it does, I guess … So many plot-holes about who prepares the bodies in this show. If only there were an easier explanation. Also, it doesn’t look like Dean is feeling too romantic towards Castiel at this hunter's funeral, and this came after his preparing Cass to be burned.

6) Finally, who prepared Dean's body? Surly, it couldn’t have been Sam, even though he were the only one present when Dean died and he was the person who loved him most, because that would mean … Wincest. Gasp! Once again, if Destiel is canon because of one particular detail, so is Wincest (only Wincest has more "proof"). It certainly looks like Dean was wrapped with a lot of care, but who could have done it since no one on earth was in love with him at the time?

I guess for the preparation for cremation argument to be valid, it only counts if we see the preparation on screen? Because that is the only time it matters. So, Castiel's death and preparation for burial mattered more than John's, or Dean's? That seems really unlikely.

Finally: Let’s take a look at the scene in context.

Dean is upset, no one is arguing against that, but he’s not only upset about Castiel (despite what certain fans like to claim). Castiel, however, is the only corpse available to prepare and burn. Sam is off supporting a new-born Jack while he pays his respects to his mother's body, something Dean certainly wasn’t going to get involved in when he hates Jack at this point. So, while Sam is supporting his new angel (a clueless child in the new world) because someone has to, Dean is saying a last private goodbye to his angel, a fallen ally. There is a clear parallel here, as well as a sunrise-sunset thing going on here, and unless Jack is in love with his mother, it’s more about saying goodbye to family than to a lover. Also, this is Dean, he needs to take action rather than sit around and watch, especially when he’s upset, so him wrapping up Cass makes sense, but it’s in no way is inherently romantic.

But, those arguing that the scene set up in this way just to show Dean is in love with Cass, or that he loves him more than anyone, ask yourselves what Dean would do if it was Sam who died. Would he be sharing preparation duties with Castiel? But, then, we don’t have to wonder. The answer is No. He didn’t even want Bobby around when Sam died. When Sam died, Dean was so distraught that he couldn’t even prepare Sam's body, but sat with his corpse, mourning him for days (2x22). Then when the guilt and grief got too much, he went and sold his soul to bring his baby brother back. He didn’t even do the same for either of his parents, Castiel, Bobby or anyone else. Or, Dean literally Romeo-Ed himself on the spot when he thought Sam died in Season 11, and it doesn’t get a lot more "romantic coded" than Romeo and Juliet. So, even if someone had to read the scene with Dean wrapping Castiel as romantic (you really really don’t), it still wouldn’t mean destiel is canon because there always has and always will only be one great love is Dean's life. And it’s not Cass. With Sam and Dean (canon Gencest or fanon Wincest), there is no room for anyone else.

1.Phosphophyllite/Phos (land of the lustrous)

Phos is by far one of my favorite characters due to how they change throughout the series

also watching them suffer is what got me my permanent angst craving

phos is one of those characters that unfortunately due to being by far the most popular character in the series the fandom tends to dislike every other character in the series (particularly in this case since a lot of the other characters have mistreated phos in some way) which i think is a disservice to those characters

but phos is still my favorite

2.Blake Thorburn (Pact: Devils and Details) (no art for him because im too lazy to ask for permission to put him here and i dont want to put a piece of art on my post without permission)

ill be honest it was hard to pick if Taylor or Blake were going to be put here, since i didnt want to put two wildbow protagonists here, and while Worm was much more enjoyable for me to read i think Pact was a much more memorable story for me,

Since like blake struggled through the horrors, i struggled against decaying attention span

In general i gravitate toward fantasy stories more than superhero stories

3. Eve and aoi (birdie wing golf girls story)

Yeah fuck that these two are a pair because i love them both and refuse to seperate them

These two are genuinely one of my favorite protagonist duo's ever

like they are so funny with their insane antics and golf

4. Yuki Takamiya (thirteen sentinels aegis rim)

this one proved to be really hard to decide between Yuki, Okino or 426 since they are all favorites

i decided that it was best to fit one of the protagonists into this since it would be hard to talk about the other two without spoiling anything and needing a ton of context

from the second Yuki showed up i knew she would likely be a favorite

what i didnt expect was for her to be arguably one of the smartest characters in the game

I would say out of the protagonists she is the second smartest with Gouto being the smartest

Like i did not expect her route to be a detective story

5. Power (chainsaw man)

first person on this list who isnt a protagonist, and i did consider putting Asa instead of her and while i am undoubtedly more invested in Asa im also much more entertained by power

also i need to put one character who isnt a main character here lest i be seen as a basic bitch

6. Sayeon Lee (hand jumper)

we only have one season of her but this girl is so mentally unwell its like catnip to me

im eagerly awaiting the start of season 2

also to my surprise me reccomending vibes this webtoon caused a bunch of wormblr people to read this too so when season 2 starts i could probably talk to those people about it

7.Daan/ the doctor (fear and hunger termina)

this was a tough descision between Daan and Marina because while i love them both equally Daan has the better narrative in my head with his doomed by the narrative swag

but the narrative is a slice of life so overall its not that bad

Sex Education Season 4 (an attempt to cope after witnessing the horror they call season 4)

this is a rant with full on spoilers so you've been warned.

back in 2019 when i first found out about sex education, i thought it was just your usual typical cringe-fest teenage drama with who the fuck cares love story. knowing that asa butterfield is the main lead it's kinda a given what kind of character he's gonna play (no hate to asa i love him and i think he showed a lot of range in this series but it's kinda obvious) and then finding out about maeve's character, i remember rolling my eyes and thinking welp if it isn't your usual rebel and nerd pairing and then proceed to not give two fucks about this show. but then there's this one time when i just needed something to watch and after season 2 dropped, videos of maeve and otis kept popping up on my youtube recommendation, so finally i decided to give it a shot, and just in one episode they proved me wrong big time.

sex education is honestly a series none like any other, even until today i don't think i've watched any series that's even remotely close to sex education, in terms of what they bring and the way they presented it (season 1 to be precise aka goat season), it's very vibrant, it's somewhat stereotypical and yet it defies it too at the same time (idk how else to describe this), it's like you expect certain things about a certain character and it turns out they're completely the opposite, and overall the show just has a very unique tone. the scores, soundtracks and cinematic shots paired with powerful and impactful moments, and just the overall composition is the recipe that they served us with, and my god do we love it, and we craved for more, so they did just that, they served us the same recipe for 3 seasons straight (well 2.5 but i'll let it slide).

and then season 4 slithered its way into our lives🤗

man where to begin? to even call this season a dissapoinment is still a huge understatement, i guess i should've known what's coming when i feel zero excitement watching the trailer, but then i convinced myself like come on it's sex ed it's for sure gonna be great, and yep it's so great that i wish i could unwatch whatever travesty i just witnessed.

watching the first episode i can still feel some familiarity in it and it's still kinda sex education-esque but i didn't love it, a great contrast towards my reaction after watching the first episode of season 3 in which to this day still is one of my favorite episodes of the series. it has a little bit of everything, a refreshing ruby and otis dynamic, the good old longing looks between maeve and otis, and the very heart and core of the show which is otis giving advice helping out his peers and motis being a fucking great team and just the episode as a whole really.

but you know you can never judge something after only watching one episode, so i bite my tongue and just carry on watching. and after watching 2 episodes, something very apparent reveals itself, the pacing is fucked. like how am i supposed to feel anything when the show kept on throwing one thing after another, it feels like when you're eating something and you're still very much chewing but someone keep on feeding you stuff before you can digest or even swallow the food first.

and i think that's the overall theme of season 4, a whole lot of everything and nothing all at the same time, like i'm sorry how are you supposed to end a show after 4 seasons but shoves a bunch of new characters in the finale, how are you supposed to connect to said characters? however powerful the topic and message you're trying to bring it's hard to even care about these characters, because all we expect from a finale is a conclusion of a 4-season long story not an opening of a new chapter.

i rewatched some of my favorite episodes a few days before season 4 dropped, and now looking back at it i just feel like i don't appreciate it enough at that time, i mean the soundtracks are amazing especially season 3 and for a tv series their cinematography is kinda top notch. but then season 4 came out and we got the walmart version of it all.

and then a few hours after watching and hating the season i realized something, ben freaking taylor didn't direct any of the episodes in season 4, my god that explains a lot and idk i think that's kinda why the pacing is fucked? like i know he didn't direct every episode in the whole series but i always think of him as an executive director(?) if that's even a thing, i just feel like he kinda dictates the overall flow of the show. it's such a shame really, if he's involved in this season maybe things could've been different, but then again maybe even ben taylor wouldn't be able to salvage whatever shitshow the writers gave him. it's as if you're watching an avatar movie that's not directed by james cameron, it just feels... wrong.

the whole season just feels freaky to me, a lot of things felt too over the top and comical even. not to mention the storylines are super all over the place, take jackson for example, bro went from thinking about his feelings for cal and then having a cancer scare to getting rejected by his biological father, like what???

now i want to dive in to the characters a little, let's start with ruby and yes i do ship her with otis and somewhat wished for them to be endgame but we'll touch on that later. anyway ruby is not ruby this season and it feels exactly like when maeve wasn't herself in season 3 (which is mainly why i jumped ship). the whole "i was bullied when i was 10" shit is such a tryhard, if it's an attempt to make ruby more likeable and make her being a bully acceptable, dear beloved writers you failed, miserably. if i'm someone who hates ruby (which i'm not) this whole thing would make me hate her even more, like okay i get it you got bullied because you're a bed-wetter but then you became a bully yourself and did worse things to others? how is that suppose to be tolerable. like bro deal with it don't backtrack, she's a bully she did what she did, but that doesn't mean she can't change, doesn't mean she can't grow. and that was the whole point of her arc in season 3. the reason why she was one of the main attraction that season was because we get to see a different side of her, yes she's mean, demanding and particular about every single little thing that revolves around her, but hey turns out she can compromise, she turns soft when it comes to her family and at some point even otis, and don't even get me started on her fucking voice on that call the night she said she loves otis. i understand that they're trying to give her a back story explaining what made her the way she is but honestly the whole bed-wetter thing was a big big miss.

and what's with the whole speech thing at the end of episode 8, it's very un-ruby like, if they're trying to show her character's growth and depth then wtf there's so many other ways to do it without making her super out of character. for instance here's a few things i have in mind; and this one is my personal favorite, like she could have a real conversation with maeve about shit like idk letting otis go or maybe the other way around like maeve telling her about how otis is actually happy with ruby and whatnot (idk maybe something less cringey but still along those lines); or they could explore her friendship with adam, and they could lean on one another and talk about how they lost their first loves, and how a certain pair of best friends completely broke their hearts (because come on why would they show the glimpse and the potential of adam and ruby and not explore it at all fuck they fumbled so bad); or the most logical of all, her dad dying (sorry roland)(i still don't get why maeve's mom is the one that died), anyway her dad being sick was always a big part of her arc, so with him dying we could explore how she would handle and cope with the whole thing now that there's literally no escape, with otis being with maeve etc.; or idk have a fucking proper conversation with otis, have some closure, either it being "i can't be friends with you because my feelings haven't changed", or yes maybe we could be friends, the point is just have a proper closure ffs, don't go around helping him whenever he comes begging for your help, like honestly i refuse to believe the real ruby (the properly written ruby) would let otis string her along like that. yes i get it she's in love with him, has a soft spot for him, but she's still ruby fucking matthews, so really the whole season she was way out of character.

Glass, Concrete & Stone: it’s cool that there are 3 predominant instruments, like the 3 materials mentioned in the title. Melody is strange and unexpected. I like it!

War Zone: another song featuring “sound effects” - I like how the war sounds get louder and louder, but also how the melody is just so “vacation vibe”. Good commentary!

Ethiopian Rock: melody is in the bass line. The echo is fun. It feels like a reinterpretation of protest rock, but I can’t explain why other than vague similarities.

Hill & Gully Ride: this is so fun! Had I not been told it’s Jamaican, I would’ve assumed Puerto Rico or Cuba. It reminds me of those dance rhythms that came to NYC in the ‘40s and ‘50s.

Ma Blonde Est Partie: this sounds so early country/country blues. Aka OLD American styles. And I find this amazing. This might honestly be my favorite song for this episode! I love the instrument mix (in ways it sounds Appalachian?), and the vocals are so fitting here!

Asa Branca: gorgeous! 😍 it’s got a little of everything to offer! The style keeps jumping around!

See the Sky About to Rain: Neil is a specific voice. It’s always jarring at the beginning, but then I settle in and can enjoy his vocals.

Your Name Is Snake Anthony: whoa! Talk about jarring - that segue was shocking! Quite atmospheric, and in some places the background is atonal or polytonal (no key or multiple keys).

Paralysed: so my autocorrect doesn’t like the way the title is spelled 😂😂😂😂 bless it’s American little heart. I suppose the bass line that plays the “short long” motif over and over is representing your heart beat. It also repeats notes over and over again, like it’s possibly paralyzed.

Big Pharma: interesting rhythms/punctuations. I don’t love it, but it definitely sticks with you. Will be honest, the “sniffing” sounds at the beginning was a little gross. Idk what it’s supposed to be, but it sounds like someone’s got a stuffy nose 🤧

She Walks In Beauty: gorgeous! So ethereal, which is what I get from the title alone. It’s hard to make synth and electronic instruments not sound cheesy, so I really like this. And more poetry!

Nature Boy: yes! 😎 the bebop is popping! I loooooove bebop/hard bop so much. It’s INSANE and I have so much respect for the art form. This is a great way to end the show!

But after 3 episodes, Mary just bails? really? the showrunners are giving her the Cas treatment - where she appears every so often. Why is she back then if she's not gonna stay with her sons? they're literally all she had left in the world. everyone else she would've known is long gone. they could've just brought back John (which I now they do in season 14 for 1 episode) to get John's reaction on how his sons have changed since 2006 when he died. they could've discussed Adam - that would've been fun 🤣🤣🤣

if they're gonna keep Mary around, the one whose death started the Brothers on their journey, keep her around! have the boys & their mom struggle to reconnect, get to know one another - let Mary see her sons as they are for better or worse and let them talk about it! let them talk about her and John and their parents' marriage, the good the bad and the family of if all. let them talk out their issues or try to Even if they fail! just cuz they talk doesn't mean they're able to solve and heal their trauma in 1 sitting. that shit takes time. it could take months, years. wasted opportunity.

Dean meanwhile stayed behind to help his mom, who's been completely brainwashed by the MoL - which is indicative of Dean's character as a callback to season 1 - he just wanted his family together!

What Dean told his mom in her head is what he should've said from the very beginning- sure it would've hurt her feelings, possibly cause a mild heart attack but it needed to be said so Dean & Mary could heal as a family!

Crowley died - he was THAT determined to take the devil down. in the long run its not gonna work since Luci will be back eventually but there's something to be said about Crowley's arc considering this is the last we see of the cheeky little devil. I recall prior seasons where he seemed downtrodden in certain scenes, about the futility of his plays for power, his schemes going tits up often because of someone else. I think Mark Shepard said something about taking his character as far as he could or something like that.

not many TBH I didn't like this season much cuz of the wasted potential with Mary and the brothers and the lack of Castiel. and Crowley for that matter. the season had a good start and it finished in a way that was interesting BUT

12x10 - Dean and Castiel fighting was HILARIOUS. They seriously should've gotten a spinoff even if they only ever remained as innocent platonic friends. it would've been so funny.

Season 4 Episode 9- Asa Britt- “You do not go from good to great overnight.”

I am really excited to discuss building a program the new world of college athletics with Asa Britt. The evolution to the “new normal” of college sports has led to so many of us needing to evolve how we, not only program, but go throughout our day to day schedule with the athletes. Inside this packed 35-minute discussion Asa and I dive into:

1)    The importance and power of routine in an athlete’s life

2)    How the landscape of college athletics with the portal has impacted how we need to teach routines and behaviors with these athletes.

3)    Ways the athlete’s coming in from other schools may need help adjusting to the new team, but also how you can learn from them improve different aspects of your program.

4)    What the importance of understanding how the player felt about their past program and their training, and what their past strength coach as to say about the player and how they trained.

5)    Strategies used to build different routines and help the players understand different behaviors so that they can make better decisions to reach their goals.

I’m so appreciative of Asa for spending the time today and sharing so many of his experiences and growth through his coaching evolution. I know that this past off season I’ve had more “growing” experiences and has pushed me in many unique ways, and through this conversation and other, I’m certain I’m not alone with that.

Who is Asa Britt?

Asa Britt was name Assistant Director of Sports Performance at Fairfield University in 2022. He develops and oversees strength and conditioning programs for Men's Basketball, Softball, and Golf. Britt came to Fairfield from Sacred Heart University, where he was elevated from the position of Graduate Assistant to Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach in 2021. He worked directly with men’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, and softball. He was also in charge of developing the internship program, connecting with Sacred Heart’s exercise science program. As a Graduate Assistant, he was in charge of men’s and women’s soccer, tennis, dance, and assisted with football. Prior to his stint at Sacred Heart University, he had internships at the University of Kentucky, Manhattan College, and the University of Iowa. Britt also served as a Volunteer Assistant for the women’s tennis team at Rutgers University as well as being a Sport Performance Coach at AP2T. Britt received a B.S. in Exercise Science from Manhattan College. He is a member of the NSCA and holds a CSCS certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Britt also hold certifications from USAW and RPR.

i think. i felt a Lot for chet from the moment he confronted callie. as much as i think callie and frank are sweet together, i def couldnt enjoy them as much as i wanted to because it felt like they had this cloud lingering over the relationship? where callie was getting closer and closer to frank and imo kinda just blew off chet mentally. like she calls her cousin in s1 and chet’s just an afterthought she barely addresses before moving onto what she wants to know

like. idk it was very nice to see chet tell her that SHE should have broken up with him sooner? and it was nice to have him address frank and callie in s2 outright and both of them fully listen to him, acknowledge his feelings, and they all move forward together. its just a rly nice addressing of men’s feelings when other shows would have just had chet apologize to them for not just dealing with it

idk man. i just appreciate them listening and not downplaying it at all. he gets to say that things hurt him, and they apologize even though it was never their intention to hurt him bc they still value him as a friend!!! thank u this is all

Urusei Yatsura (2022)

I am just not the target audience for this. This is probably a nostalgia ridden show that people who watched the original will love and enjoy but I am not that person and with the two eps I watched I had enough. The jokes were not funny to me all characters were annoying and yeah the animation is nice but I will not put myself through something I will not enjoy for it tbh. Watch it if you liked the original ig

Tonikaku Kawaii: SeifukU

I dislike tonikaku with a passion it gives go girl give us nothing to the negative 20 no flavor no taste still the same shiz as the show so yeah. Watch it if you liked the series lmao its more of the same

Shinobi no Ittoki

I guess…… Its really kinda bland and I can’t pinpoint why. The concept is interesting but it just doesn’t hold up in its execution and I dont care for it run sorry do better I guess

Fumetsu no Anata e 2nd Season

I try so hard to care, SO hard. Since season 1 I have found this show to be kinda…. All over. Like the only storyline I cared about was the one with the kid with the mask last season and since that its just been meh to me. Like, we already kinda know how everything is going to go and all the arcs are kinda the same, they show us someone, we care for them for like half an episode, they die, repeat.

Bocchi the Rock!

This has been like the number 1 show this year but I… I dont know I just dont like it ASDFGHJ I am not a big fan of cute girls doing nothing specially mixed with the uwu social anxiety quirky. I feel like this is a good show but I am just not the target for this adsfgh its a show you gotta pay attention to understand and a lot of history goes behind it and it just kinda bored me but I know its not bad. I just dont think its for me but that's okay I might keep watching it.

Its okay. Its a nice concept and I have only watched like 3 eps but its a nice message I guess. Its short and whatever so it doesn't take much time to watch but its not something revolutionary. I like idol shows so maybe I am giving it more than what it is.

This is the one that gets me cancelled part 2 SKSKSK. I am not going to lie besties, I am not the biggest mob psyhco fan. I am ngl, I am like on ep 2 of bnha season 6 but have seen the Dabi scene like 20 times thanks to social media and I got no choice but to Stan. I dont like this arc of bnha as y'all know but it seems more interesting than last season and I like the way the animation direction is going so I will give them points for it.

Thoughts on Sex Ed S3

It’s been over a week since Season 3 of Sex Education and here are some of my thoughts since it’s not considered as “spoilery” now.

I don’t think I’ve ever cried as much as I did on the show than when I was watching Episode 3x08. They hit the feels in all the right directions. I am not the biggest fan of Adam but bravo on the writers for making him so vulnerable this season that I couldn’t help but emphasize with him.

I’m all for seeing the Adam/Rahim dynamic developing more next season. Adam’s surprising Rahim time and time again this season, proving him wrong in his preconceived prejudices towards him. So much potential there. I also knew Adam/Eric weren’t going to work (sorry!). They were/are on different wavelengths. Let’s not forget that Adam bullied Eric for years... it’s just not a healthy set-up for a end-game relationship. I’ll talk more about that later.

The theme of this season? ACCEPTANCE.

- Hope’s lack of acceptance into her situation and narrow-mindedness worldview made her into an unhappy and ruthless Headmaster

- Moordale Secondary finally embracing and accepting their sexuality

- Eric finally completely accepting who he is and what he wants.

- Maureen and Aimee accepting that it is okay to be alone and that is what they need right now.

S3 was also about seeing these teenagers grow up and learn to accept the harsh realities of life.

I think people forget that these characters are only 17 years old (Maeve literally said it multiple times this season, the writers’ reminder to the viewers perhaps?!). I get so peeved when I see people saying anti-Otis, anti-Maeve sentiments. Teenagers make mistakes, they do stupid things, they regret doing these said stupid things, they break up with each other, they mend, and they fall IN LOVE (constantly). If you’ve been a teenager, you know... the angst is real. What makes this show so fun to watch is that we get to follow the lives of very flawed teenagers portrayed in a realistic and emotional way, without being overtly bashing, stereotypical or corny (like most teen dramas).

A big majority of the fandom are talking about Ruby/Otis being so amazing and end-game. That’s bullocks. It was clearly set up to be a one-time thing. It was a growing up moment for the both of them. Otis is finally embracing his own sexuality. Ruby is now finally learning how to love someone else besides her parents and herself. She was a complete arsehole and bully to everyone in Season 1 (even to her own friends). You can’t give her a free pass for all her misgivings just because she looks good with Otis or because she takes care of her sick father (btw, wouldn’t we all?). She was ashamed of her home life. She was ashamed of Otis. She was trying to control everything about Otis when they were together, to the point where he couldn’t chew his food in front of her. TOXIC relationship at it’s best. It’s real sad to me that people are obsessed with them. It just doesn’t make sense. Also, I didn’t see the chemistry. It was just teenage lust, and that was how Asa played it. There was no love on Otis’ part. Why ship a one-sided relationship?

Now, on to the foundation of the show: Otis and Maeve.

Everything falls back on them. Two words. SEX CLINIC.

They are the main reason Moordale turned into the “sex school” and the basis of the show (Eric clearly acknowledged this.) They have literally brought out the best in each other. Meave made Otis realize that he has a knack for talking to people and helping them (btw, his scene with Hope was beautiful, and I cried when I saw Jean listening on). Maeve brought him out of his shy “wallflower” bubble and into a person that people are drawn towards for advice. (Otis and Maeve both speaking up to everyone during the new SRE lectures and respectively getting kicked out was brilliant to see). Otis constantly encouraged Maeve to be the best that she could be academically and helped her to acknowledge her own brilliance (trophy from S1, anyone?). Yes, they have been selfish and have let jealously get the best of them (house party speech in S2, Maeve telling Ola that Otis is a virgin in S1...) . But that’s only human, isn’t it? Also, like most things in real life, they experienced a-many missed opportunities and bad timing with each other.

And their last scene with each other (fitting that it’s the final scene of S3):

“We have to see where we’re at when I get back.”

“So this is goodbye?”

“No, no... it’s see you soon.”

It’s left open-ended and there is no finality for the viewers. But we all know that they are meant to be. It is not yet the right timing yet for them to be together, but Maeve is emotionally strong enough to accept that, and now so is Otis.

Nothing screams endgame on the show than Otis and Maeve. The show revolves around them. I would’ve liked to see more scenes between Asa and Emma together because they have incredible chemistry but I think the writers wanted to focus on their other relationships more (and also a lot more time were spent with side characters this season). The writers also never forgot about them. We always saw the longing glances, the almost text messages/phone calls, and the conversations they have with other people about each other. Their romantic scenes were thoughtfully crafted. They made Eric (his speechlessness when Otis told him they kissed was PRICELESS) and Aimee their biggest shippers ever, which makes complete sense since they are the two people that know Otis and Maeve the best. 

Judging by Emma’s latest interview about wanting to have a scene with Gillian next season (if it happens), we know there’s a chance she’s coming back on for Season 4.

One final comment, I absolutely LOVE Miss Sands.

I think the reason why celebrating the life of asa fox is leaving me so “wtf this isn’t just a good spn episode this is literally an episode from a better show” is that it’s not an example the show spn was trying to be, it’s specifically an episode from the show it was afraid of being.

In terms of the actual monster of the week, what we have here is a beautiful execution of the type of thing early spn was going for. The stakes are in absolute terms not high, but they’re more compelling for this because they’re so personal!! The threat is just one demon harming people we care about (literally the climax of devil’s trap, think about if the demon had been possessing Mary). Demons are actually scary again, the danger feels grounded and meaningful in a way it doesn’t tend to so much in late seasons (with some notable exceptions like red meat).

But it’s when we drill into what exactly “one demon harming people we care about” means that it becomes clear why this is a different, better show. ‘People we care about’ here isn’t just Sam and Dean and their parent, it’s not even just Sam, Dean, their parent and Jody. We’ve got this much bigger cast of very lived in characters who it feels like we could easily return to (and some of feucht we do!), which is the antithesis of what early spn was going for, and one of the weirder things it insisted on sticking with. That’s not to say early spn doesn’t want you to care about one-off characters, or that it doesn’t have recurring supporting ones, it obviously does, but it doesn’t devote this much time to making you care about them outside of how they serve the plot.

Because that’s the kicker with asa fox: it is a truly outstanding motw episode, but the entire first half doesn’t even deal with the monster at all, it’s just about exploring – and quite frankly, revelling in – both new and old characters and the dynamics between them. And spn doesn’t like to do that!! People often complain about how spn alludes to fun things happening off screen without showing them; the first half of asa fox pretty much does nothing but show them!! Yockey gives us the ensemble cast spn is terrified of having longterm, and does make excellent use of them to the end of the motw, but also shows them to be a joyful thing in their own right.

And then obviously this network of hunters we’re getting shown here is simply a further fleshing out of what we already got glimpses of via Ellen and Jo and the roadhouse. Yockey is literally using the tools spn already provides to manifest the better show it would never allow itself to be, and it’s absolutely stunning, and only his first episode.

There’s an annoying flavour of fanon Cas that both is way more boring than canon and does him a massive disservice. Season 4 Cas didn’t follow Dean because he had some sort of special faith in him and his ~goodness or whatever; he wasn’t going along with him because he ~trusted him to be right. He’s persuaded by him because he a) already cares about humans in his own right and so is won over by Dean’s arguments and b) has a crush on Dean which makes him want things that Dean wants to happen. It’s not about blindly following – it’s very much about meeting someone whose principles are already very compatible with his own burgeoning ones And someone whose good opinion he wants. There’s no Just Following the Righteous Man here: it’s all about agency babeyy, and it’s not even all completely selfless! Free will!!

One of the things I find particularly entertaining about destiel as a phenomenon is how it’s a study in accidentally creating homoeroticism via a lack of shared screen time. It’s not just that “for what it’s worth, I would give anything not to have you do this” and “well, I guess I’m not the man either of our dads wanted me to be” are already incredibly intimate things for two characters to say in their eighth episode together, but they’ve also really not interacted very much during that time and none of that unambiguously on the same side. It’s the whole “Cas is Dean’s [redacted]” of it all: season 4 destiel doesn’t work as a story about Friendship or whatever because that’s just not something the writers have taken time to show. Instead, it’s simply gay.

It doesn’t stop there either; even as late as Cas’s “I could go with you” in the season 11 finale there’s a sense of “wow, that’s very intense for two guys who’ve really not spent a lot of time together lately”. But I think, ironically, the point of no turning back here was season 6, specifically how tmwwbk works in the context of the rest of it. In a season 6 where Cas had more frequently come along for motw cases, or at least where the vibe had been more friendly and amicable when they had interacted, it would be much more plausible to read Dean’s heartbroken betrayal as being about Cas as a friend. But instead, most of their interaction has just been Dean being irrationally angry at Cas for (checks notes) trying to stop the apocalypse from restarting, while this endeavour also keeps Cas off screen a good amount of the time. Because she disliked the gay angel and so gave him as little screen time as possible before trying to write him out, Sera Gamble inadvertently set up the perfect conditions for Ben Edlund to use that Eurydice turn to say “fyi, Dean’s in love with him too”.

This thread continues throughout the show, with Cas and Dean’s having intense interactions while Cas is in only roughly half of episodes, itself making these interactions come across as even more potent. The narrative forces keeping Cas and Dean apart actively directly contribute to the logical conclusion being that they’re in love with each other; the narrative just can’t win <3

i feel like i need a glossary of terms or a contact list for all these people involved with the show. i have shit memory and dont pay attention to the credits who is sera (sara??) and why does everyone hate her!! why is he Bobo!!!!!! please... has anyone posted about this im desperate

lol well including everyone involved with the show would be difficult, but I’ll give you some highlights

Eric Kripke: creator of Supernatural, showrunner for seasons 1-5. People have differing opinions about him but general people enjoyed his run and he’s considered the best showrunner in the series overall. Not much to say because there’s a lot to say lmao (notable episodes: “Pilot,” “Lazarus Rising,” and “Swan Song”)

Sera Gamble: writer who was involved from the beginning of the show, became showrunner after Kripke left. Her seasons, 6 and 7, are typically regarded as the weakest seasons. She was a huge brothers-only supporter, and was responsible for Misha being written out of the show (as well as Jim Beaver, Bobby) in order to get the show to just be about the brothers again. There’s a lot of drama regarding her treatment of Misha/Cas, but more recently she’s known for the Magicians debacle, a horrendous example of the Bury Your Gays trope. She’s also involved with (the showrunner of?) You on Netflix. She was a pretty good writer, but overall fans dislike her because of her showrunning tenure (notable episodes: “Faith” with Raelle Tucker, “Death’s Door,” “The Born-Again Identity”)

Jeremy Carver: writer from season 3 that was promoted to showrunner from seasons 8 through.... some time in 12, the timeline has been a little murky to me. He was the one who brought Cas back into the main plot, as well as allowing the deancas storyline to become genuine subtext (we can argue whether it was queerbaiting or what he was intending to do if he had been running the series finale, but yeah). Unfortunately, he was also the showrunner when Charlie was killed off brutally, which dampens his legacy. People are conflicted about his seasons, but generally he’s looked upon favorably (not related, but the picture that comes up when you search him on google is NOT him, he’s really like a typical white nerdy looking dude lol) (notable episodes: “The Rapture,” “Sacrifice,” “Do You Believe in Miracles?”)

Andrew Dabb: writer from season 4, promoted to showrunner during season 12 and is the last showrunner of Supernatural (he wrote the finale). He was well-liked by deancas fans for awhile because of how much screentime they were allowed to give, and because of the focus on extended/found family. Sam and Dean only fans didn’t like him for the same reasons. Unfortunately, HIS legacy has been marred by the awful series finale, though it’s debated whether that was his fault or because of network meddling. (notable episodes: “Dark Side of the Moon” with Daniel Loflin, “The Prisoner,” “Moriah”)

Robert Singer: executive producer since the beginning of the show (he’s also co-showrunner throughout Supernatural, but I don’t think he typically was involved with the plotlines too often). He’s directed quite a few episodes, including the infamous wire fight episode (s13 finale) as well as the series finale. Married to Eugenie Ross-Leming, writer of the show

Eugenie Ross-Leming/Brad Buckner: writing partners TECHNICALLY from season 1, but they only wrote one episode until they were brought back in season 7. They are regarded as the worst writers in all of Supernatural, responsible for tactless death scenes of fan-favorites (and typically minorities) like Kevin, Charlie, and Eileen. They also feature a gross amount of dubcon/noncon, racism, weird unnecessary sex stuff, and are SUPER into Lucifer for some unknown reason (they have a crush on Mark Pellegrino I guess). They’re also just kind of bad writers in general, their pacing is weird and their plots convoluted. To be fair, though, they have written some good moments, like Dean trying to reach Cas in Hell’s Angel and Dean’s confessional scene in Paint It Black. But overall, they suck. Why are they still on the show even though BOTH sides of the fandom (who never agree on ANYTHING) dislike them? Well, because Eugenie is married to Singer. Nepotism. (notable episodes, the ones I can stand to watch lmao: “Holy Terror,” “Hell’s Angel,” “Our Father Who Aren’t in Heaven”)

Ben Edlund: writer from season 2 who left after season 8, but people STILL talk about him simply because he is arguably the strongest writer of the series. Cas fans particularly like him because he did most of the heavy-lifting regarding Cas’ characterization. He also wrote the famous bi!Dean scene with Aaron in season 8, where Dean is flustered after being flirted with. (notable episodes: “On the Head of a Pin,” “The French Mistake,” and my all-time favorite “The Man Who Would Be King”)

Robert “Bobo” Berens: writer from season 9, his first episode was “Heaven Can’t Wait,” which is all you really need to know about his influence on the deancas storyline. He’s also gay, so people particularly enjoy seeing how he approaches destiel in his episodes since it’s not just another straight guy potentially just catering to fans. He was also the one who was meant to go off and run Wayward Sisters, and is responsible for a lot of their development in recent seasons. I believe he also created Rowena? He wrote the episode this season where Cas confesses his love to Dean (along with other heavy deancas episodes like “The Trap”). Sam fans typically don’t like him because he doesn’t give him much focus. (notable episodes: “Heaven Can’t Wait,” “Who We Are,” “Wayward Sisters” with Andrew Dabb)

Steve Yockey: writer from season 12 through the beginning of season 15. Also gay, and also responsible for deancas moments in recent years. Generally loved for his deancas subtext but ALSO because he is an amazing writer who came out with iconic episodes. (notable episodes: “Celebrating the Life of Asa Fox,” “Lily Sunder Has Some Regrets,” “Peace of Mind” with Meghan Fitzmartin)

Robbie Thompson: writer from seasons 7 through 11, and wrote some fan favorite episodes in the meantime. He is also the creator of fan favorite characters like Charlie and Eileen. He was also one of the few writers who was vocally supportive of destiel during his tenure rather than just later. I’m not implying anything about his intentions, but it was validating for him to encourage fans during a time where most of the cast/crew ignored or actively dismissed it. Plus his episodes are just fun! (notable episodes: “LARP and the Real Girl,” “Fan Fiction,” “Baby”)

Meredith Glynn: writer since season 12, has worked closely with Bobo during their seasons together. She and Bobo cowrote “The Future,” which is the mixtape episode, so she has been taken in by deancas fans haha. She also wrote the episode where Cas makes the deal with the Empty, so it’s pretty safe to say she and Bobo had worked on the deancas plotline together :) She’s also liked some deancas-related tweets on twitter, so she’s being subtly supportive (notable episodes: “Regarding Dean,” “The Future” with Robert Berens, “Byzantium”)

Davy Perez: writer since season 12 (a lot of the ones I’ve mentioned are, since this is when Dabb became showrunner and made changes in the writers room). His episodes tend to either be horror or bizarre. I mention him because he’s responsible for episodes like “Stuck in the Middle (With You)” (Cas’ first “I love you”) and “Tombstone” (aka Brokebacknatural lmao). I don’t know much about him otherwise, but that’s why he’s brought up usually (notable episodes: “Stuck in the Middle (With You),” “Tombstone,” “Atomic Monsters”)

hopefully this helps, and hopefully I didn’t forget about anyone major. There have been a LOT of people behind the scenes so it’s hard to say who to include. Like, I didn’t mention Jerry Wanek, Jim Michaels, Kim Manners, Thomas J. Wright, or others who might be mentioned from time to time.

Sex Education stars Ncuti Gatwa and Asa Butterfield speak about ‘Sex Education’ Season 3 with The Standard Pop

On the lateness of the show’s season 3 premiere:

It feels like we’ve got a present to give to a very excitable kid, and you just wanna give the present over. Very excited for people to see.

On shooting the season during the pandemic:

Ncuti: Shooting during a pandemic was different than not shooting in a pandemic [laughs] It was - it took longer, and was slightly more awkward, but we always thought that we were very lucky to go into it, and that we had a job go to, and just wanted to try and make it work as best as we could, and hopefully did. We all had a lot of fun and we all took care of each other, but it was a little bit tricky, but we got used to it eventually, and produced what I would say is a very riveting series.

On what to expect from Eric in season 3:

Eric is - he’s very determined to be unapologetically himself. His makeup, his style, everything is kind of stepped up this year, because he’s got his man, after years of fighting, and after years of confusion, he’s got his man, they’re together, they’re in an equal relationship now. There’s nothing holding them back. We see him being unapologetically himself and coming a lot more into terms as well, that he’s a black, gay man. He goes back to Nigeria this year for a wedding, and touching base with his culture, kind of informs him how to walk through this world as a gay, black man.

On the sexual health issues the show touches on that he didn’t know as a teen:

I didn't know what vaginismus was when I was a teenager, and then found out what that was in season one. I guess what I also didn't know as a teenager was to take everything at your own time, and I think a lot of teenagers have that issue and wonder about that, and teenagers of today, they've got their iPhones and social media and everything is so fast paced and instantaneous, and if you don't look a certain way, and you don't have a certain bag, or you're not with a certain guy, or you're not having sex, you're gonna get left behind. And what this show does a good job is it tells kids it's okay to wait, and wherever you are in your journey you're gonna make mistakes, and you're gonna grow, and I think I and every other teenager would have loved to have known that as a kid.

Throughout the interview, Asa also discusses the importance of being tested for covid-19 as the show’s magic is in its physical intimacy, and what to expect from Otis in the next season.

I won't be able to watch final stroke movie anytime soon. BUT at least let me share my imaginative scene between Ikuya and Rin. Because in my opinion, season 3 didn't give justice to the portrayal of connections between Ikuya, Rin and Haru.

Nagisa, Rei, Ai, and Momo invited Haru and the others who have returned from Tokyo to hang out at Iwatobi SC Returns. Coach Sasabe welcomed them in. Ikuya and Asahi who have never been there looked at the establishment with curiosity. Their curiosity turned into surprise when they saw the hanged pictures on the wall near the entrance.

Asahi: Ah! These pictures...!

Ikuya: Were these taken in your competitions in high school?

Makoto: Yes.

Nagisa: And we also have our picture when we won the relay in elementary! It was fun! I did my best so Rin-chan would let me in the team. We also practiced hard back then.

Makoto: Come to think of it, we wouldn't experience how it feels to swim in a relay if it wasn't for Rin. It's great that he came to Iwatobi.

Asahi: Amazing... So this is what Haru looks like back then. Are you always like this in your pictures?

Rin and the others went ahead to the lockers while Haru turned back to them.

Haru: What are you doing? Hurry.

Nagisa: Eh! I was just showing the pictures to Iku-chan and Asa-chan. Don't tell me you're too shy to show these to them?

Haru: I'm not shy. The pictures are there even if I don't show them.

Ikuya stared at the pictures and looking intently at Rin and Haru.

Ikuya: They look nice.

Makoto: Come, I'll show you guys to the pool.

Asahi: Okay, okay.

When they reached the pool, Haru couldn't hold his self any longer. He walked over to the pool.

Ikuya: Haru!

Asahi: Oi! What are you doing?

Haru stripped in a flash like he used to. Asahi and Ikuya watched with wide eyes. Nagisa laughed while Makoto heaved a sigh.

Makoto: Haru... Seriously, even now?

Asahi: Huh!? What's the meaning of this?

Ikuya: What did he just do!?

Makoto: Well, you see... Haru have this urge to strip and swim when he sees a pool.

Nagisa scratched his chin.

Nagisa: But it was much tougher back then since he would even try to get to an inflatable pool or tank.

Asahi: What!? He really did that?

The others have already changed into their swimsuits and entered the pool area. Momo did a splash like a kid, while Rei, Ai and Sousuke went in to the water in a normal way. Rin walked over towards Makoto and others.

Rin: Like I thought so, that guy would do that after a long time.

Makoto: Ah, Rin. At least he's not doing it at Hidaka. Right, Asahi?

Asahi: Y-Yes. I think so? I've never seen him do that.

Ikuya: Me too.

Rin: Why don't you guys head to the locker and get changed?

Makoto and the others did and headed back to the pool immediately. They joined in and swam leisurely. After some time, Sousuke took a break at the benches to avoid tiring his shoulder. Makoto and Rei sat on the edge of the pool near Sousuke's seat. Momo is pestering Ai by splashing water to him.

Asahi, Rin and Ikuya are using three adjacent lanes while Haru is using the farthest lane. Nagisa grabbed his drink and sat by the pool. He noticed Asahi staring at Haru.

Nagisa: What are you thinking, Asa-chan?

Asahi: Nothing. I'm still thinking about what Haru did. That was reckless! Although he's wearing suit under his clothes.

Nagisa: Haru-chan's instict is pretty much like that. He's always ready. But there was a time when he almost swam in an empty pool!

Asahi: Is that even possible?

Ikuya who is at a distance, moved closer, curious upon hearing Haru's name.

Nagisa: Actually, back in high school when this place was under demolition, Haru-chan, Mako-chan and I sneaked in to dig the trophy trophy that we won during elementary. That night, we ran into Rin-chan. He just got back from Australia. And guess what? Rin-chan challenged Haru-chan to a race!

Asahi: Seriously? Matsuoka did that!?

Asahi's voice was loud enough for Rin to hear. Rin realized what they are talking about and swam closer towards them.

Asahi: So, who won?

Nagisa: No one won.

Asahi: Ha? How come?

Nagisa: This place was half ruined. Of course there won't be water i-

Rin: Oi, Nagisa! Why do you even have to bring that up?

Nagisa: Come on, Rin-chan! Iku-chan and Asa-chan need to know about this! It sounds so funny now even though everything was tense back then.

Nagisa laughed out loud. Then he started telling how to bribe Haru with canned mackarel. On the other hand, Rin felt Ikuya's eyes on him. He turned then Ikuya suddenly turned sideways.

Rin: Kirishima... I'm sorry about Nagisa. That's the way he is.

Ikuya: It's okay. I don't mind. And it's interesting to hear these things about Haru.

Rin: Ah, okay. I see.

Ikuya: But if I may say so, actually... I'm envious of you.
