It took me several hours of gameplay & a single sidequest walkthrough video to find out that I can re-launch myself in a lookout landing towers 😭

I thought it was a one-time only! 😭😭

Golden flame danced between her fingers.

Elide recoiled, and the fire vanished as quickly as it had appeared.

"My name is Essar," the female said softly. "I am a friend--of your friends, I believe."

Elide said nothing.

"Cairn is a monster," Essar said, taking a step closer. "Stay far from him."

"I need to find him."

"You played the part of his mistreated lover well enough. You have to know something about him. What he does."

"If you know where he is, please tell me." She wasn't above begging.

Essar ran an eye over Elide. Then she said, "He was in this city until yesterday. Then he went out to the eastern camp." She pointed with a thumb over a shoulder. "He's there now."

"How do you know?"

"Because he's not terrorizing the patrons of every fine establishment in this town, glutting himself on the coin Maeve gave him when he took the blood oath."

Elide blinked. She had hoped some of the Fae might be opposed to Maeve, especially after the battle in Eyllwe, but to find such outright distaste...

Essar then added, "And because my sister--the soldier you spoke with--told me. She saw him in the camp this morning, smirking like a cat."

"Why should I believe you?"

"Because you are wearing Lorcan's shirt, and Rowan Whitethorn's cloak. If you do not believe me, inform them who told you and they will." Elide cocked her head to the side.

Essar said softly, "Lorcan and I were involved for a time."

They were in the midst of war, and had traveled for thousands of miles to find their queen, and yet the tightness that coiled in Elide's gut at those words somehow found space. Lorcan's lover. This delicate beauty with a bedroom voice had been Lorcan's lover.

"I'll be missed if I'm gone for too long, but tell them who I am. Tell them that I told you. If it's Cairn they seek, that is where he shall be. His precise location, I don't know." Essar backed away a step. "Don't go asking after Cairn at other taverns. He isn't well regarded, even amongst the soldiers. And those who do follow him... You do not wish to attract their interest."

Essar made to turn away, but Elide blurted,

"Where did Maeve go?"

Essar looked over her shoulder. Studied her.

The female's eyes widened. "She has Aelin of the Wildfire," Essar breathed.

Elide said nothing, but Essar murmured, "That was... that was the power we felt the other night." Essar swept back toward Elide. Gripped her hands. "Where Maeve went a few days ago, I don't know. She did not announce it, did not take anyone with her. I often serve her, am asked to... It doesn't matter. What matters is Maeve is not here. But I do not know when she will return."

Relief again threatened to send Elide crumpling to the ground. The gods, it seemed, had not abandoned them just yet.

But if Maeve had taken Aelin to the outpost where they'd lied that the Valg prince had been contained...

Elide gripped Essar's hands, finding them warm and dry. "Does your sister know where Cairn resides in the camp?"

For long minutes, then an hour, they had talked.

Essar left and returned with Dresenda, her sister. And in that alley, they had plotted.

Elide finished telling Rowan, Lorcan, and Gavriel what she'd learned. They sat in stunned silence for a long minute.

"Just before dawn," Elide repeated. "Dresenda said the watch on the eastern camp is weakest at dawn. That she'd find a way for the guards to be occupied. It's our only window."

Rowan was staring into the trees, as if he could see the layout of the camp, as if he were plotting his way in, way out.

"She didn't confirm if Aelin was in Cairn's tent, though," Gavriel cautioned. "Maeve is gone--Aelin might be with her, too."

"It's a risk we take," Rowan said. A risk, perhaps, they should have considered.

Elide glanced to Lorcan, who had been silent throughout. Even though it had been his lover who had helped them, perhaps guided by Anneith herself. Or at least had been tipped off by the scent on Elide's clothes.

"You think we can trust her?" Elide asked Lorcan, though she knew the answer.

Lorcan's dark eyes shifted to her. "Yes, though I don't see why she'd bother."

"She's a good female, that's why," Rowan said.

At Elide's lifted brow, he explained, "Essar visited Mistward this spring. She met Aelin." He cut a glare toward Lorcan. "And asked me to tell you that she sends her best."

Elide hadn't seen anything that came close to pining in Essar's face, but gods, she was beautiful. And smart. And kind. And Lorcan had let her go, somehow.

Me when they are the sisters ever: 😭😭😭 They came out soooo freaking well. I won’t lie, they took me a thousand years to finish but through the constant support from all of my buds (and my latent bisexuality), we made it 😤

Hopefully you guys know the deal by now: design choices, easter eggs, and (NEW!) closeup shots below the read more. ⬇️

I wanted Ace to have a very down-to-earth vibe and looked at Aussie beach-girls, coastal cowgirls, and vaqueras for reference. (IDK, I’ve just always envisioned Ace as part-Australian🌺 and Mexican 🏴‍☠️) Her clothing choices are mostly natural or utilitarian materials like the painted wooden beads on her top, her woven fabric and leather belts, and her denim jumpsuit. I gave her bikini top a zen-garden kind of feel because I read the first Ace’s Story Novel and I loved how idyllic and peaceful they made Sixis Island sound so I wanted to invoke that in some way.

Speaking of her painted wooden beads, they hang off the back of her top and represent her connection to Sabo and Luffy. They watch her back once she sets sail. She only wears one red glass bead earring because the other one got ripped out of her ear when a child, leaving her earlobe torn (don’t think about it too much 😢). Also, YES! she does wear a hibiscus flower just like Rouge (because I hate you and I want to make you cry, muhwahahahaha).

Also, I really wanted her to have super textured curly hair that licks behind her like flames. I am always considering whether or not a character should have long hair or not because I don’t want it to be a hindrance if they’re in a fight (or if they ARE a fighter with long hair, how to they avoid an enemy making use of that?). Ace is, of course, a Logia-type Devil Fruit User so I think she wouldn’t have trouble with people grabbing it LOL I get the feeling that she doesn’t take very good care of it even though it looks amazing. Like you’d think it would be soft and bouncy just by looking at it but if you ever get the chance to run your fingers through it, it’s a total rat’s nest and there’s sand and food all up in it. She still falls asleep while eating 😂 but she tries her best to only do it around people she can trust (woman moment 😔).

Honestly, her design is not that different from Ace’s canon look. It feels really vital to Ace’s character to have a lot of skin showing. And he’s always hanging all over himself with his hips all cocked like the weight of the world is too much to stand up straight. It is certainly not my OWN preference to make her an absolute smoke show. That’s just the character, okay? (I’m partially lying and the proof is that I turned the emblem on Ace’s hat strap into a sternum tattoo for no other reason than that it is sexy af.)

Now for Sabo, I’ve made her very girly. I tried putting her in pants or something more militant but she told me that she’d wear the big poofy sleeves and hiked-up ruffled skirt. I think Sabo has always had a strong grasp on his fashion sense and individual flair and I truly believe that his personal style is one of the major influences for the rest of the Revolutionary Army resulting in the very flashy, queer, steampunk aesthetic (aside from Dragon’s plain-ass cloak). So of course I had to implement her nonconformist look when reimagining her as a woman and dress her up to the nines.

I’ve given her very ornate jewelry that is there to tell a story, even if she herself doesn’t know it. I like to think she picks up stuff from her travels that resonate with her, such as a damaged set of earrings with one stone missing or red cup-shaped shells featuring three nestled pearls. Another accessory that cannot go unmentioned is her dragon claw hat pin that keeps her top hat resting on top of her hair (and is definitely used as a weapon when the situation simply doesn’t call for trusty metal pipe). She also has a veil that obscures her prominent facial scar. I imagine she’s not very keen on the reminder of the incident from her childhood that took away her memories. I also kept her chipped toothed because 1) it’s fucking adorable and 2) is a visual reminder that she no longer aligns herself with the nobility who would have gotten such a thing fixed. She is so poised in almost every outward facet of her life from her dignified role as the Chief of Staff to the elegant materials in her clothing that it can be easy to forget she was also a rough and tumble forest dweller. Every time Koala remembers this, he lets out the biggest sigh.

Her hair is inspired by Gibson Girls and Elizabeth Swann from the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie. I wanted it to be fussy and tidy but fall apart when she’s in moments of distress. For example, when she remembers her sisters, her hair starts to look like Ace’s flaming mane. I’m so in love with her, I think she looks like an adorable little porcelain doll that would fuck you up. I made an effort to keep her eyes a little bit manic. I get lost in her steely black orbs (and also Ace’s warm brown ones, but we’re talking about Sabo rn).

Plot notes for this AU:

For this series of character designs, I wanted the expressions and outfits to be aligned with the canon plot but I don’t know if I have the heart to kill fem!Ace in my AU. I’m too attached and ASL has suffered enough!!!!! But Ace’s death is also a major defining moment for Luffy so it feels disingenuous to completely avoid it. Also a huge aspect of Sabo’s character is carrying on Ace’s will and I have so many thoughts about how the Dressrosa Colosseum scene would play out if they were all women. Oh well, I’ll cross that tragic bridge when I get to it. I’m definitely going to draw some Modern AU Girl Piece ASL though. They deserve to hang out with no stakes 😭 They are sisters!!!

they  might  be  no  more  than  two  strangers  still,  but  that’s  never  stopped  billy  from  caring  about  people.  what  kind  of  person  would  he  be  if  he  only  cared  about  his  family  and  ignored  the  rest?  he’s  always  been  an  empath  and  so  sympathizing  with  those  he  barely  even  knows  comes  easily  to  him,  especially  if  they’re  the  downtrodden  ones.  his  ma  had  filled  his  head  with  noble  ideas  early  on,  and  now  that  she’s  gone,  they  mean  even  more  to  him  —  he  just  wants  to  make  her  proud.  “i  agree,  fighting  with  him  wouldn’t  be  wise.”  he  doesn’t  even  want  to  imagine  what  the  preacher’s  capable  of,  but  he  has  an  idea  and  it  makes  his  blood  curdle.  gazing  at  her  as  she  lingers  in  the  doorway,  he  sees  her  off  with  a  quiet,  “but  you  don’t  have  to  say  it’s  fine  around  me.  sometimes  it  helps  to  let  it  all  out  and  talk  to  someone,  tell  them  how  you  really  feel.”  he  knows  trust,  just  like  respect,  is  earned  and  so  he  doesn’t  expect  her  to  open  up  right  away,  but  at  the  same  time  he  does  want  her  to  know  that  he’s  here  for  her.  after  all,  and  she’s  pointed  it  out  herself,  he’s  a  pretty  good  listener.

when  she  leaves  him  all  alone,  he  feels  a  strange  sense  of  longing,  finds  himself  missing  her  already  even  though  she’s  only  in  the  next  room.  he  can  hear  her  going  about  her  business,  and  still  his  heart  aches  in  a  way  that’s  almost  impossible  to  describe.  he’s  never  experienced  anything  like  this.  it  must  be  the  aftermath  of  dehydration  and  days  spent  by  himself  in  the  woods,  he  tells  himself,  reaching  for  the  cup  and  downing  its  contents  in  two  big  gulps.  this  should  make  him  feel  better.  but  even  as  he  sets  the  empty  cup  down  on  the  nightstand  and  scoops  up  a  forkful  of  pie,  he  can’t  shake  off  this  strange  feeling  —  he’s  already  grown  attached  to  her.  “sure  you  don’t  need  any  help,  lucy  gray?”  he  calls  out,  mostly  just  because  he  wants  to  hear  her  voice  again  since  he’s  in  no  shape  to  actually  help.  

he’s  finished  half  the  pie  by  the  time  she  returns  to  the  room,  his  features  lighting  up  all  at  once  as  he  lays  eyes  on  her  again.  his  heart  at  peace  once  more.  “howdy,”  he  says  with  a  sweet  smile,  lowering  the  fork  and  discreetly  wiping  the  remaining  crumbs  from  the  corners  of  his  lips.  “are  you  sure  this  is  a  good  idea?”  how  can  she  be  sure  they  have  enough  time  before  the  preacher  comes  back  home?  feeling  her  fingertips  on  his  skin,  popping  the  buttons  on  his  shirt,  he  knows  he  shouldn’t  be  feeling  any  sort  of  way  about  it,  but  his  cheeks  heat  up  nonetheless  and  his  heart  begins  to  flutter  happily.  “here,  i’ll  —  i’ll  manage,  thank  you,”  he  stutters,  gently  clasping  her  hands  and  moving  them  away  from  his  abdomen.  he  carefully  shrugs  the  fabric  off  his  shoulders,  the  scratches  on  his  back  hurting  with  each  movement.  “i’m  still  a  little  wobbly  on  the  legs,  though.”  he  admits  sheepishly,  pushing  himself  off  the  bed  so  he  can  stand  up.  he’ll  surely  need  help  getting  to  the  bathroom  and,  more  embarrassingly,  into  the  tub.  

features lifted in surprise, stopping by the door to take everything he was saying in. she didn't expect to hear him get so passionate, wondering why he was... they were still just two strangers who barely trusted the other. everything he was ranting, she agreed. it wasn't like she didn't, but she couldn't explain to him there's nothing she could do about it. or he might solve that problem for her with his gun, she worried. since she wasn't sure what kind of person he yet was. "i agree...respect is earned." even if it didn't seem like it, but that was her father. if she wanted a slap in the face, then she'd go right ahead and disrespect him for giving her disrespect. those are the things she couldn't say. "it's not actually okay...i just say those things to get him on outta here. there's no point in fightin' with him. but thank you, i'm glad someone thinks that way." her mind was real confused now, he didn't seem like the type of guy like every other man she's met but then she also stood questionable on his intentions at times. then she gently nods, cautiously staring at him before being able to leave her room without too much anxiety now about him sneaking up and killing her. she's gone for several minutes, stealing underwear and soft pajama pants out of her fathers' dresser. bringing those to the bathroom to drop off– but the convenient door next to the bathroom certainly helps decreasing that time. able to bring in warm water right outside of an even bigger tub outside, that the sun warms for them and she fills the inside bathtub up with. the water supplied from rain water or the creek at times when there's a dry spell. it just takes a few buckets she carries inside to get it full. shaved soap boiled into liquid in a cup for shampoo along with her homemade bar of soap is already available on the washstand and she traditionally dumps a few rose petals from a basket into the bath water from her roses outside, because that's how her mama always did it. bathed her in rose petals, so she does the same for his bath too. lucy gray stacks a few cloths and towels on the washstand then finally returns to her room, "the bath's ready. now just the hard part... getting undressed and safely into it." she worries, going over to him to stand and hands already going to the bottom buttons on his shirt that were still closed, undoing each of them. she'd get his shirt off him, at least. but he'll have to manage to wiggle out of the rest once she tugs his shirt off.

The Transformation of Nanami Kento, Part 8 (Final Chapter)

In which Nanami regains his human form, but are all traces of Nanami-pom really gone for good?

The arrangements had been made, Ichimura suitably threatened and Gojo had managed to secure a steady stream of transformed people from the sectioned-off area where the curse user had been confined. None of the daycare workers stayed long. Each seemed eager to return to their families and old lives, some still moving awkwardly, having to re-adjust to their normal human forms.

Nanami-pom had stubbornly insisted on going last, ensuring that all of the curse-user's victims had been seen to before allowing Gojo, Ino and the students to escort him down the corridor to the confinement cells.

Stopping outside the door, Nanami-pom paused and turned to them. The small hazel eyes fixed on each of their faces, expression earnest, as if trying to convey his thanks for everything they had done for him over the past few days. Ino's eyelashes were looking suspiciously damp once again. The students, as if understanding Nanami-pom's intentions, knelt one by one.

He first approached Yuuji. The tiny paw reached up and patted the pink hair comfortingly. Yuuji gave a slightly crooked smile.

"See you in your normal body soon, Nanamin. And for what it's worth, I'll train hard and make sure that you never have to put yourself in danger for me again."

Nanami-pom gave a small, solemn nod before moving on to Nobara. He stared at her and his ear twitched slightly. Nobara's lip trembled in delight as he allowed her one last ear scratch and belly rub.

Nanami-pom then turned to Megumi. Reaching into the pocket of his miniature business suit, he pulled something out and placed it carefully in Megumi's outstretched palm. Looking closely, Megumi made out the small vial of conditioner he had been using to brush Nanami-pom's fur twice a day to keep it shiny and free of knots. Even though it had only been for a short while, Megumi realised that he would miss having a small, furry person climb into his lap in the mornings and afternoons, a comb pushed insistently into his hand. He knew that this was Nanami-pom's way of saying 'thank you' and offered the short form in front of him a slight smile in return.

Ino was last. He saluted Nanami-pom smartly and received a dignified little bow in return.

"Can't wait to have you back, chief!"

Ino was carrying a neatly pressed suit of Nanami's, fresh from the dry cleaner's and a small bag with other essentials. He handed them over to Gojo who was still looking a little grumpy from Nanami-pom's trickery the previous day. Opening up the cell, Gojo huffed out a breath before turning to Nanami-pom.

"Guess this is it. You ready to go back to your normal, gloomy self?"

Nanami-pom nodded emphatically and Gojo shook his head in fond exasperation before gesturing him through.

"After you."

The students watched as the diminutive form scampered across the threshold, each of them suddenly feeling a tad emotional. It was silly, they knew. This was Nanami in whichever form, after all. They would, however, miss Nanami-pom's little expressions of mischief and humour, his reliance on them, his cute, polite mannerisms and his tiny paw on their arms, asking for their attention or a cup of warm milk. They were all unanimous in their desire for their reliable mentor to make a re-appearance though, as much as they would miss his strange, transformed aspect.

The door swung shut and they waited with growing anticipation. After some time, they heard movement within, what sounded like footsteps approaching. The students stood anxiously to attention and Ino wrung his hands, sweat beading on his forehead beenath the ski mask. With a creak, the door opened into the corridor.

Nanami stepped out. Once more in his imposing human form, the sorcerer cut a reassuringly familiar figure. Dressed in his usual tan business suit, dress shoes polished to high shine and wristwatch gleaming beneath his sleeve, Nanami flexed his fingers before adjusting his cuffs and raising his hands to sweep back his perfectly styled hair.

He was not wearing his usual tinted glasses, however, and the keen, sharp-cornered eyes looked over his small audience, one eyebrow raising in what looked like slight amusement.

"Oh? I thought you'd be more pleased to see me back to normal. Or do you miss my other form already?"

Hearing that deep, smooth baritone, so comforting to listen to after many days without it, was enough to send Yuuji and Ino into a more 'emotional' state.

"Nanamin! You're really back!"

"And there he is!" Ino cheered, "You really did a number on us. We didn't know what would walk out that door, but ... rest assured, I'd respect you in every form, Nanami!"

"And the fanboys strike again," Nobara muttered, but she came forward and welcomed Nanami all the same, her eyes lingering rather wistfully on his ears.

Megumi concealed it well, but even he glanced momentarily at Nanami's hair, fingers twitching with longing around an imaginary comb. Gojo chose this moment to appear in the doorway, closing it firmly behind him. His face was creased in what looked like a deep desire not to laugh.

"What's going on with you?" Megumi asked, curiously.

Gojo's composure lasted a full three seconds before he burst into peals of laughter.

"Oh, wait ... I can't - You should have seen - "

"What? What?"

Yuuji, who had grabbed Nanami around the middle in a firm hug (in spite of the older man's stiff protests) now stepped back, eyes tracking over the tall form before him.

"What are you laughing at? He's back to normal!"

Nanami clicked his tongue.

"Don't bother with this clown, Itadori - "

"No, no, wait!" Gojo waved them to a halt. "I want to know, for research purposes, who packed those boxers with baguettes on them for Nanami?"

A vein had begun to show prominently in Nanami's forehead, and the students were suddenly covering their mouths and looking anywhere but at each other. Ino raised his hand sheepishly.

"Uh, I did? I mean, I just thought that after everything you'd been through, you might have liked a reminder of your favourite food ... "

His voice trailed off as Nanami sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose.

"You thought I'd like a reminder ... on my underwear?"

"Eh ... "

"No," Gojo managed to choke out, "No. The real question here is ... why do you even own that? And why is the baguette so stategically placed - "

"I don't have time for this. I'm going to get some food."

Posture rigid with fresh irritation, Nanami briskly walked away, buttoning up his coat. He definitely wasn't stomping. Ino and the students scurried after him.

"Hey, to celebrate you coming back, I'll treat you, okay?" Ino called out.

"Hmm. I suppose that would be acceptab- Kugisaki, why are you staring at my ears?"

"Eh? Who me? I'm not!"

"Hey, hey, Nanamin, what does it feel like to be tall again?"

"Much better. Unfortunately, I can now tell that Gojo has a bad case of dandruff again."

"Lies and slander!"

Shoko and Ijichi were invited to the small celebration of Nanami's return. Shoko arrived with a bottle of whiskey she had been saving for a rainy day, which Nanami looked at in much the same way as Nobara had regarded his ears. All those days of having to drink milk had obviously taken their toll.

When Ijichi arrived, he brought a considerate gift of his own; a small leather harness that would fit around Nanami's forearm and carry another short blade, in case he ever found himself incapacitated again. Nanami thanked him gravely and Yuuji exclaimed in excitement, begging Nanami to cosplay for Assassin's Creed.

In the days that followed, there were few reminders of Nanami's stint as the most adorable mascot Jujutsu Tech had ever seen. There were those photos that Gojo had taken, however. True to form, he hadn't kept his promise and posted them to the Grade 1 sorcerer group chat at the first opportunity.

Nanami soon settled into his usual routine of working himself to the bone and exorcising rogue curses with practiced efficiency, sometimes with Yuuji or Ino in tow. If one were paying close enough attention, they'd sometimes see Nanami quickly place a hand over his mug when others entered a room he was in, disguising the fact that he actually did fancy a cup of hot milk with honey occasionally.

If one were watching with even closer attention, they might have noticed his surreptitious meetings with Megumi, a small vial changing hands in the hallway, no words required. For a few days after each exchange, Nanami's hair would gleam with even greater lustre, and would smell faintly of caramel pudding.

The day stretched on for what felt like hours but in reality was only about two before the sun had finally begun to set. The weather had been so weird, bright and sunny despite the dark clouds looming in the background. Something told you that the storm you sensed coming previously was finally about to arrive - just in time, too.

You had stared out the window of the hotel as Nayeon paced on the floor in front of the bed. She had been mumbling things here and there, reaching for her phone a few times before ultimately changing her mind. She didn’t like to be out of control of the situation, that much you could tell. You had never seen your best friend so stressed - not even during exam week - and you have to admit you didn’t like it. She had always been so sure of herself for as long as you had known her. If anything, this just emphasized the seriousness of the situation.

You’re sure you probably looked too blasé about the situation, a blank expression on your face as you rested your head on your knees. The truth was you just felt numb, having gone through so many emotions these past days already. This past month had taken a tremendous toll on you, the lack of sleep and stress finally catching up to you. You had no idea what the outcome would be after tonight but you found it hard to care. Jail almost sounded better than whatever awaited you both at the residence, but you weren’t exactly ready to go running to the police station right now anyway. Besides, you didn’t want to find out what Namjoon would do if you went against his wishes.

“Fuck it, I’m calling them.” Nayeon finally broke, picking her phone up off the bed and swiping at it.
