a bite size review of Lore of the Wilds:
Firstly, I'd like to thank Hear Our Voices Book Tours and author Analeigh Sbrana for the free advance reader!
***All thoughts and opinions are my own***
Guess this is 3.5 stars??
Will be tuned in for book 2, though book 1 felt lacking?? Many times it felt like I’d skimmed or skipped information and the story would reference it as if I as the reader knew. It felt very narration heavy, in that instead of spending time in scenes, as soon as we got good and settled, the story moved on to the next story beat. I felt a bit detached as I read, wanting to be completely immersed in the story but never officially reaching that point.
Also the “twist” at the end…it was weird. Didn’t have an emotional reaction to Asher being the Syerell(sp) guy--the fae guy who visited Lore's family apothecary at the start of the book-- But I am laughing at how this sets us up for Lore to be with Finn. How convenient. (On that point, the earlier romance with "Asher" also felt a bit lacking to me, in that it happened so fast, to the point where it felt like insta-love and hate-to-love had a struggle baby...)
This is another "cover buy and keep" book this year (2023 seems to be the year for this lol). Because the cover illustration for this book is GORGEOUS?!?!?!
But. Alas. The story didn't inspired equally gushing from me. It wasn't bad!! In fact, it was only okay in every sense of the word.
I look forward to seeing what other secrets Lore's grimoire holds in the next installment, and have hope that this series will pick up. It wouldn't be the first time I was disappointed by the first book, and then fell head over heels in love with its sequel.

[ad_1] Spring is here, and things are thawing out for even our most notorious snow enthusiast: Pusha T. The Virginia rapper’s fourth studio album has been teased all year with nary a release date in sight. Today, though, the hype train picked up some more steam: we have a summer tour announcement, a title—“It’s Almost Dry”,*—*s and a new, incendiary single with Jay-Z. .“Neck & Wrist” is the pair’s second collaboration, following Pusha’s “Drug Dealers Anonymous” loosie from 2016. (They also appear together on Kanye West’s “So Appalled,” which is more of a posse cut.) At 44 (Pusha) and 52 (Jay), they’re two of hip-hop’s most storied veterans, and have earned the right to talk a little bit spicy. While “DDA” was more of a gritty, straightforward lyrical sparring match, their latest—over a stellar beat from Pharrell—is more of an early-aughts style bragfest.Jay in particular is in take-on-all-comers mode, opening the verse by addressing comments made by comedian Faizon Love that he’s been exaggerating his past as a drug dealer. Love believes that Jay has perpetuated a dangerous image in hip-hop by claiming to have a degree of street bona fides he actually does not possess, even though it’s been a theme throughout his music since the ‘90s. “When Jay-Z creates this whole ‘I’m a drug dealer, I’m a drug lord’ [persona], these kids say, ‘We gotta do it, too, to be like Jay-Z.’ Not knowing that this is all made up shit,” Love has said in past interviews. To address Love, Jay first turns the comic’s name into a kind of homophone, before poking fun at his skepticism. “The phase I'm on, love, I wouldn't believe it either / I'd be like, ‘Jay-Z's a cheater,’ I wouldn't listen to reason either,” he raps.Jay then shifts his focus to address a long prevailing knock–that he would not have been able to ascend to New York rap royalty were it not for the void The Notorious B.I.G.’s death in 1997 created in hip-hop. But Jay-Z and B.I.G. were, of course, close friends and collaborated several times. They even had plans to start a duo called The Commission, which B.I.G. had already begun referencing across Life After Death and some of his last recorded verses like “Victory.”.On “Neck & Wrist,” Jay invokes The Commission to assert that he and Biggie would have shone side by side: “They like, ‘If B.I.G. was alive, Hov wouldn't be in his position’ / If B.I.G. had survived, y'all would have got The Commission / Hov was gon' always be Hov.”While Jay-Z’s subliminals are garnering the most attention, Pusha is, as always, in rare form, matching Hov on a technical level. When the rollout for “It’s Almost Dry” first kicked into gear, Pusha spoke about how Pharrell—who, along with his Neptunes partner Chad Hugo, produced exactly half of the new album, while Kanye handles the rest—challenged him to be more of a songwriter on this new project and go beyond straight bars. “Neck & Wrist” is emblematic of the way the two lifelong friends and collaborators push each other: rap purists consider Clipse’s Hell Hath No Fury album to be the gold standard of Neptunes production, and Pharrell’s beat here is arguably the closest he’s come to tapping into that specific sound. Dec 4th 4:44
I’ve had a very strong connection to Jay-z and his music since I was 11 years old.
On September 11th, 2001, I was in school when the World Trade Center was attacked. In school, all they told us was that New York City was being bombed. My mom worked in New York City, while we lived across the bridge in Newark New Jersey. No one could get in touch with my mom. It was after school and I was scared. I began to walk to my church not far from my school. On the way, I stopped and “bought” a copy of the Blueprint album, that just came out that day, from the bootleg man on the corner. (yes he had the album on bootleg already.) I got to my church, wiped my tears, and put the cd in my portable cd player. As soon as the drums on “The Ruler’s Back” started, I was in a trance. I started doing my homework, listening to the music. I had no idea where my mom was but I was calm. By the last song on the album, “Mama Loves Me” came on, my mother walked through the door. Since then i’ve always been able to find myself in Hov’s music. I could always find a line from a verse from one of his many songs to describe my thought at the moment. It was Jay-z that made me want to become a writer.
Anyway, I usually would play his music all day every Dec 4th. However last year on Dec 4th, my life changed again. I woke up around 5:15am and didn’t feel right; I felt a weird empty feeling. I looked at my phone and say 3 missed calls from my mother and a text saying to call her. I immediately knew what was wrong. I called my mother back and she answered the phone sobbing. She told me that my grandfather had died.
My granddad was one of the most important people in my life. He began to get sick around the same time I left college and moved home for a minute. In that time, I sat with him everyday, helping him quit smoking, and getting back healthy. He would randomly ask me to drive him to Atlantic City (3 hours away) because he was feeling lucky. We would go sit in the casino for hours, then drive home. I didn’t care, I enjoyed his presence. When I moved back to Atlanta to finish school and live, we spoke, texted or facetime’d everyday. His last facetime to me was Nov 30th 2016.
Dec 4th for me last year was a very quiet day. I sat in silence; it was hard for me to get my thoughts together. I don’t usually handle death well. But that day as well as the next few months felt weird because it felt like I was “growing up” almost. It was like my security blanket was snatched away from me. Whenever I would fail at something, I figured well its ok, I can just run to my grandparents. I couldn’t pay my rent that month, its ok, let me get on the phone. My grandfather was funny, loving, charming, and giving. I wanted to be like him. And I wanted to be everything he wanted me to be. I felt the pressure to be successful immediately.
In June when Jay-z released 4:44, the album meant something different to me. Here was my favorite rapper of all time, the person who I looked up to since I was 11, release his most vulnerable piece of work ever. I spent years idolizing the big pimpin’ Jay-z, the money cash hoes Jay-z, and I was currently in a space where I needed to grow out of my childish ways, and he was too. I started to realize how I was the problem in all of my relationships with women and I was regretting a main one I let get away. I started to realize I wasn’t handling my money correctly or putting the necessary effort into my career business wise. I started to feel confused about being Black in America and frustrated. Just like the day the blueprint came out, 4:44 came to my rescue. When I was a boy, Jay-z filled my head with fantasies and stories and inspiration. He acted almost as a baby sitter until my mom came home that day. As a man, Jay-z gave me life lessons, tools to become a better man.
A month ago, I went to the 4:44 tour date in Atlanta. Jay did a stripped down version of “Smile” to just a piano. He said the words:
“Bad times turn to good memories, smile Even when I'm gone and you remember me, smile Good times never fade away, smile Even if I'm not with you here today, smile”
I Cried listening to those words. I thought about my grandfather and felt like he was speaking to me at that moment. I feared I wouldn’t make it in life without my grandfather pushing me. After battling depression for years, I feared I couldn’t go on without a push. But I realized I had been given the necessary tools to become who I am meant to be.
Today makes a year since my grandfather died. It is also Jay-z’s birthday. I want to say Thank you, to both men.

Was E-Money Bags The Start Of The Jay-Z / Nas Beef!?
Tumblr media
https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=72&v=F-yEZXhlgAw The feud between Nas and JAY-Z was a gladiatorial battle between two rap titans. They started off with subliminal jabs and moved up to body sh*ts. Fans cheered on. Crews got in the mix. Digs got so personal that parents had to step in. Thankfully, the battle didn't end in tragedy like Biggie vs. 2Pac. It ended in triumph. And friendship. JAY-Z and Nas would later shake hands and join forces. Carmen Bryan opened up to VladTV in an exclusive interview about being at the center of Jay Z and Nas' legendary beef. She explained that after breaking up with and moving away from Nas, she started dating Jay Z after first becoming friends. During the conversation, Carmen shut down rumors that Memphis Bleek started the beef, as she said she feels bad for Bleek and blames Jay Z for ending his career. Carmen also revealed that she confronted both Jay Z and Nas about the beef. Let's backtrack to an earlier time when JAY Z and NaS vied for New York supremacy in one of the greatest hip-hop battles of all time. The beef escalated in 2001. Jay launches his first direct attack on Nas at Hot 97 FM's 2001 Summer Jam. After slapping a picture of a dancing, young Prodigy on the screen, Jay raps the first 32 bars of "Takeover." He attacks Mobb Deep and dubs Prodigy "a ballerina." Ever the calculated genius, Jay calls out Nas with one suave bar at the end of "Takeover": "Ask Nas, he don't want it with Hov. NO." Nas swiftly responds with a scathing freestyle over Eric B & Rakim's "Paid in Full." On the freestyle later dubbed "Stillmatic" (aka "H to the Omo"), Nas runs through a list of charges against Jay. According to Nas, Jay is a fake hustler, a liar, a phony. Nas questions Jay Z's s*xuality, dubs him the "fake King of New York" and mocks him for sampling his songs ("I count off when you sample my voice.") Jay Z couldn't have wished for a better response. He knew Nas would take the bait. So Jay returns to "Takeover" and tacks on the final verse he'd been saving for Nas with a few alterations. Cooly riding the bassline is Jay Z. Jay explains with biting wit that Nas and Prodigy are fake thugs who lie about their rep. After two full verses of Mobb Deep disses, Jay Z turns his attention to Nas for the next 32 bars. With scholarly focus, Jay Z dismantles Nas' earlier attacks on "Stillmatic" Freestyle while launching a few missiles of his own. Nas dubbed Jay a fake hustler. Jay replies that Nas didn't live the street life, he "witnessed from his folks pad." He adds that Nas had never seen a TEC-9 until Jay showed him one while on tour with Large Professor. Large Pro would (somewhat) confirm this story later. Nas said he "counts off" when Jay Z samples his songs. Jay replies that Nas made it a hot line, but he (Jay Z) made it a hot song. One of the most powerful lines on "Takeover" arrives on the third verse: "Because you know who did you know what with you know who/But let's keep that between me and you." Only three people know what Jay is talking about here: Jay Z, Nas and You-know-who. Jay is baiting Nas, daring him to respond. Not responding wasn't even an option for Nas. The only question remaining is "How do you recover respond to a song as effective as 'Takeover'?" "Ether" cracks the streets of New York with a 38 Special. You hear gunshots, then a chopped and screwed 2Pac barking, "F-ck Jay Z." And with that, Nas dives right into a long list of insults. He calls Jay Z a "stan," mocks his Roc-a-Fella crew and questions his loyalty to Biggie Smalls ("Biggie's your man, then you got the nerve to say that you're better than Big.") Read the full article

On the Run Tour II: tutti i look di Beyoncé e Jay-Z
