A kinda-tornado-kinda-hurricane-kinda-massive storm hit Houston this evening. This is what my street looked like immediately afterwards. Wolf, Pup and I are safe. We got lucky. We only lost power for a little bit and our trees are still upright. My parents are still in the dark 2 miles down the road but they assured me that they’re safe and have portable batteries to keep their phones charged overnight.
I hope everyone who’s been hit harder by this storm recovers soon. No idea if Pup will be going to school tomorrow, though we do know several schools in the district were either damaged or have no power.
Sending lots of love to my hometown tonight 🫶🏻

MELISSA AND THE ALLIES OF GAIA ART DUMP 5--HARVEY AND ALLISON
This is probably the last art of characters from Melissa and the Allies of Gaia that I will post this year. Here, we see human! Hurricane Harvey and human! Tropical Storm Allison as they appear in the very final chapter of the story, plus their full size and miniature forms (the miniature forms are the hurricane symbol-looking designs).
Harvey's full size form is in the top right and has appeared already in the art I made for the Harvey Diaries, a short story I wrote in 2017 to cope with Hurricane Harvey and that ended up having Melissa and the Allies of Gaia as a sequel. I had never designed a miniature form for him however as that story took place mostly when he was in his original journey as a hurricane and in the spirit world.
In the Allies of Gaia, he has been summoned back from the storm afterlife and given a humanoid form by...who exactly? Maybe it will be revealed in the future. But in his humanoid form he appears as this very awkward and sensitive nerd who doesn't really know how the whole "being human" thing actually works. If you recall from the Harvey Diaries despite his great power he actually has a very naive and sweet personality...he pretty much floods things with his tears. I imagine he would revert to his miniature form if he is hurt extremely badly.
Allison never reached above tropical storm status in her original life, so when summoned back from the spirit world she ends up becoming the hurricane equivalent of a small child. Her humanoid form basically looks like she's three years old. She likes to dress up like a princess. She also has cute little rain boots for walking in the many rain puddles she (inevitably) creates.
Her full size form has a completely white eye with no color or pupil because while Tropical Storm Allison had an eye on radar, it was completely covered with clouds. So while Allison has an eye, it's completely opaque and she probably cannot see much with it.
Her miniature form always has a closed eye and here she is seen crying. Like Harvey I imagine Allison cries a lot to the point she floods things, though this is less because she has an unusually sensitive personality and more because she's pretty much a baby.
Both of them will play a larger role in Part 2 if I ever get around to finishing it.
I honestly am weirded out by humanoid Harvey, I have never imagined him with a human form before. I honestly prefer the non-humanoid forms most of the time.

Storming
Thinking about Houston. Houston. I have friends there. They were hit by a hurricane. The electric power grid is severely damaged. Some two million people were left without power. The last time I saw the news there were still about 1.6 million people waiting. It’s hot. They’re hot. They are getting grumpy. They don’t understand the delay. I do. Hurricane Katrina arrived on August 30. My…

Navigating Home Insurance in Houston: Affordable Options and Flood Coverage
Houston's geography and climate make it susceptible to flooding. Even if you're not located in a designated flood zone, it's essential to consider flood insurance. Standard homeowners insurance typically doesn't cover flood damage.
1. The Flood Risk in Houston: With its low-lying coastal geography, Houston is no stranger to floods. Heavy rains and hurricanes can cause water damage to homes, making flood insurance crucial.
2. Affordable Flood Insurance Solutions: Combining your homeowners and flood insurance policies can often lead to cost savings. Also, consider that the cost of flood insurance is a fraction of the potential financial losses incurred without it.
Customizing Your Insurance Portfolio
One size doesn't fit all when it comes to insurance. Houston homeowners should assess their unique risks and customise their policies accordingly. For instance, if you live in a high-risk flood area, additional flood coverage may be essential. Likewise, for those closer to the coast, hurricane preparedness should be a top priority in policy customization.
In conclusion, affordable home insurance in Houston is within reach with careful consideration and comparison of options. Don't forget to factor in the need for flood insurance to protect your home from Houston's unique weather challenges. A well-tailored insurance portfolio ensures that your home remains a safe haven even in the face of unforeseen events.
Owning a home in Houston, the fourth-largest city in the United States, comes with both excitement and responsibilities. One of the most crucial responsibilities is securing your investment with comprehensive home insurance. In this dynamic and often unpredictable environment, homeowners must strike a balance between affordability and adequate coverage. In this blog, we'll explore how to find affordable home insurance in Houston, the importance of homeowners insurance, and the necessity of flood insurance in this flood-prone region.
Understanding Homeowners Insurance in Houston
Homeowners insurance is the bedrock of financial protection for your home. It shields you from a range of perils, from fire and theft to vandalism and natural disasters. In a city like Houston, known for its diverse weather patterns and occasional hurricanes, having homeowners insurance is not just wise; it's a necessity. It offers peace of mind, knowing that your most significant investment is protected.
Affordable Home Insurance in Houston
Finding affordable home insurance in Houston is a top priority for homeowners. Here are some tips to help you strike that balance:
1. Bundling Policies: Combining your home and auto insurance with the same provider can lead to significant discounts.
2. Home Safety Measures: Investing in security systems and disaster-resistant features can lower your premiums.
3. Raising Deductibles: While this can reduce your monthly payments, make sure you can comfortably cover the deductible if an incident occurs.
4. Comparing Quotes: Shopping around for quotes from various insurance providers, both online and through local agents, can help you find competitive rates.
