Do you know what's beyond hilarious? Aegon and Aemond dressed in their TG green colors while Jacaerys and Lucerys are wearing TB black and red (I see what you did there, S1 costume department. Nice foreshadowing).
And even more hilarious is Viserys watching them, completely oblivious to the fact that his at the time ONE family has already split into two factions.
AND EVEN MORE HILARIOUS is that Viserys gets blinded by divine providence before he dies. This man proved how blind he already was during this training scene of his sons and grandsons.

it is little discussed how the fandom discredits Emma as Rhaenyra ( unfortunately some being TB himself) always saying how Milly is a better Rhaenyra, and how they wanted them to keep her (even though it was impossible, because Rhaenyra would grow up one day like.. lol) I don't see that with Alicent (Emily-Olivia) It's just with Emma-Milly and it's very worrying and there's some other reason behind this that I haven't discovered yet besides just being prejudiced against Emma
I think it is pretty obvious why there are complaints when it comes to the Milly - Emma transition, and not with Emily - Olivia. Because Olivia Cooke is a stereotypical gorgeous woman, with the “appropriate” body and “appropriate” sexuality. She always wears provocative clothing, which makes immature and horny teens drool.
Emma D’Arcy has a different type of beauty, a more regal look so in a way, I understand the showrunners’ choice. However, I personally would have chosen someone else to play older Rhaenyra, and not for the reasons concerning the actor’s sexuality. It is more about how Emma plays Rhaenyra, and it’s not exactly what I had in mind when reading the book.
Rhaenyra Targaryen was extremely feminine. She always had a very girly personality, she wore the finest dresses and had tons of jewelry on her. Emma D’Arcy just doesn’t exude the personality Rhaenyra had in the book, in my opinion. Milly Alcock did her better, but still had some things missing from the book.
As for the clothing and the jewelry, it is obviously the showrunners’ fault. I used to believe that it is about budget, but take a moment to compare what Rhaenyra was wearing in episode 6 to what Alicent had on.
They had Alicent wear an extremely beautiful, bright dress, and jewelry as well, whereas Rhaenyra barely had any jewelry on her and she looked like she was wearing a sack of potatoes. She should have been wearing red, maroon or purple with gold Myrish lace, as described in the book. She should have worn rubies, and had rings on each finger. Rhaenyra was the fashionista at Court, not Alicent.
The fact that the showrunners seem to put Alicent more in the spotlight with scenes, promos and beautiful clothing only shows me that their preference for Olivia Cooke over Emma D’Arcy in terms of what they consider “attractive” blinds them to the actual story they have to tell.
If Rhaenyra were played by someone like Holliday Grainger for example (my dream Rhaenyra), I guarantee that there would have been more of a balance, and show!Rhaenyra wouldn’t have been given shitty clothing.

Just before tonight's episode airs, I wanted to get out of the way some of the little thoughts that still wander my head from last Sunday's one. I know this post will hold little to no meaning or significance after the episode airs, because it could probably completely change the trajectory of where the relationship between Rhaenyra and Jacaerys stands seeing as we already got teased a conversation with these two, but there was something that did bother me about how they choose to portray these two th last episode that I feel the need to talk about it.
I really, really, cannot get down to what they want to do with the dynamic with these two. I really do not understand where Jacaerys and Rhaenyra's relationship is heading as of last Sunday's episode. While it seems like they can have moments where they communicate and understand what they're both feeling and going through, most of the time these two are on screen they do nothing but misunderstand and be angry at each other.
Rhaenyra treats Jacaerys just like how Viserys treated her under Otto's influence, as seen in episode two of the first season. She ignores him, doesn't listen to his suggestions except for when she's on board with them, and shuts him down at every turn- and yet she deliberately tells Mysaria that Jacaerys is rebelling against her, a feeling that showrunners like Sara Hess back up as the truth of the matter.
And all I can do while watching all of this unfold is ask myself if I've either lost the plot of what's in front of me or if I'm just not seeing what the showrunners want me to see. All I've been seeing for the past six episodes is an inactive Rhaenyra being angry at her council for.... something I'm still not exactly sure about. I understand, her, feeling diminished and put down and perhaps still not being taken seriously as a woman in a room full of men but every time there's a council scene and Rhaenyra is in it, I can kind of also understand why she's still not being taken seriously. Every time she recoils with uncertainty because she does not know what to do, how to retaliate, or how to get her faction back on her feet, her mind leads her to what she knows best, participate with Syrax. When she's told that her getting on her dragon and becoming an active participant in the war is a bad idea, she scoffs and becomes annoyed because she doesn't know any better. Rhaenyra doesn't know what to do because with the little education she was given by her father battling a civil war with her half-brother was certainly not on the curriculum. And while I wouldn't blame young Rhaenyra for not knowing better, adult Rhaenyra should have certainly foreseen that her ascension to the throne would have been challenged, challenged enough that a dragon war breaking out would have been on the cards that she would have to, one day, play.
This hesitation is what costed her rook's rest. Had she already started cooping up the men-at-arms of the houses whose support she had on her side, she could have had the means to face Cole with an army. But the writers were literally obsessed with turning Rhaenyra into another version of Viserys, that instead of us getting the Rhaenyra that's grieving and wanting to avenge the death of both Luke and Visenya, we got the Rhaenyra who doesn't even mention the death of her only daughter, the one she was desperately dreaming of, not even once and treats the death of her son as something of a matter of fact, something that happened that we have to get over with, something that the show almost wants us to believe Lucerys either deserved or had it coming for him. Something that will not have anyone mention the faults of Aemond's intention and doing, with him not even once being called or denominated as a Kinslayer, while he actually goes down in history as being the prime epitome of said act.
Jacaerys feels virtually and emotionally alone, there is no other way to put this. His half-sister and cousin, as well as his three little brothers, were sent off for their own good and the only person that he feels comfortable enough to open himself up to is Baela, but even he understands that he cannot put and vent all of his feeling and frustration on her. He knows he cannot burden other people with the things he shouldn't even have to go through. The person he has ever felt closest to, both in age and in as a human being is now gone, and he cannot even let himself properly grieve him because of the war he now has to put himself to the bone for. The person he openly seeks out to consolidate and ground himself is his mother, the only other person who can feel his pain to the fullest and because of everything going on Rhaenyra cannot see what Jacaery wants in her in those times he tries to seek her out. And it's both tragic and makes you want to bash your skull on the nearest wall available at the same time.

And who manipulated and forced Alicent to announce Rhaenyra was lactating in front of the entire 98% male council this time, was it patriarchy and Otto (who left King’s Landing ten years ago) again ?
Rhaenyra started lactating long before Alicent pointed it out and no one paid any attention, to think these men have more tact than the woman who has given birth four times herself.
This sounds like the a cutout portion of an extensive and hot argument you had with another person, plucked out and slammed in front of my face...I agree, Alicent has no real excuse of ignorance, much more benevolence. She was very obviously trying to just move away from Rhaenyra's insistence abt the fortifications at the Stepstones and didn't have any rebuttals for Rhaenyra and lost her patience so she decided to embarrass her instead.
I wrote a whole thing about it in Twitter, actually.

My thoughts on Episode 6 SPOILERS AHEAD
Lannisters! Finally. Golden Tooth. He has a real lion!
The lord looks about to faint at the thought of feeding that army.
Aemond on a power trip caressing poor Tyland. He allies with the Triarchy. I love that they suggest marrying Alicent off to a Greyjoy. Ugh he is so conceited.  Daemon will murder him. Dismissing Alicent from the council?? The horror in her face when she notices he is terrible and cruel, and pleased by what happened to Aegon. HE IS SO SEXIST, AND IT’S SO FUN TO WATCH HIM AGAINST ALICENT. I do blame her for how he turned out. Mothers play a part in misogyny in men. They perpetuate the cycle of violence. So this is about revenge for childhood bullying, you know, as one does.
Corlys as Hand! Yay. The Darklyn is handed an impossible task. Bartimos being the reasonable one, surprisingly. Why not ask Bartimos, though? He is a Celtigar. Valyrian. Makes no sense. Plothole?
Daemon again? It’s a bit tiring, but let's see what we learn. Oh, regret about the heir for a day, interesting. Regret at not supporting Viserys more, not grieving with him. Forehead pressing again, pleading form? Paranoia at its fullest. Both Hightowers and Rhaenyra he thinks might be bribing Simon. Caraxes, finally. Alys knows him so well. Telling him he runs away from what he doesn't like. Magic talk. No one who wants the crown deserves it. I love Alys. I also love how he refuses to ask her for help but her council. Ominous Alys, I love her.
Back to the Darklyn. Awful death. Loved the glances between Jace and Rhaenyra, they were so close to achieving it! Corly’s boys reappear. Allyn doesn’t like being an officer.
Dyana! The smallfolk go hungry and Aemond hires whores and feasts! And the madame is a Black! Mysaria’s friend, perhaps? Or jealous they asked for her girls and not her? Interesting that she speaks and does not include herself in it. Aemond dropped her after being caught by Aegon? Her speech seemed a bit too well spoken to be spontaneous. Revenge? Friendship with Mysaria? Gods.
Bartimos deserved it in previous episodes but in this one he was being reasonable! Visenya Rhaenyra! Talking of Mysaria, my girl is here!
Aemond doesn’t understand why the common folk is angry. Yes! Kick Larys away. Good choice in bringing Otto back and humiliating Larys at the same time, though it might be dangerous. Aegon is better!  Leave the poor guy alone! This is plain torture. And he kisses his forehead after? He is terrifying. Why leave him the talking ball?
Rhaena thinking of a dragon, while they tell her they can leave for Pentos. I do not like where this is going.
Corlys boys again. I like Allyn shaving his silver hair. Addam is jealous, poor boy. He just wants recognition from his father.
Jace comforting Rhaenyra and chiding her for the slap. Eldest child as ever. Love Jace. Talk of a boy raised right. Take notes, Alicent, because he wasn’t wanted either. Pleas for Daemon and her tiredness. Mysaria! I love that they are getting along. My girls. Clever to send food with their banner. It looks cute too. Great move.
Alicent in crisis and she deserves it. The more bad behavior I see from her sons, the more I blame her. I understand she didn’t want to be a mother, but she could have done better raising her children. I fear she created monsters. She reminds me of the mothers of some men I know, who support their bad behavior because they see themselves as less and us as less. Poor Hightowers, but good for the Beesburys! A liege lord protects, not kills his vassals. Gwayne gets a blessing but seems disappointed about it. Daeron, sixteen already! Poor Gwayne, raised on his own. Without his mother. They lack kindness?? And whose fault is that? Gwayne is much kinder than me. The mothers who pay the girls their sons assault so they do not press charges? That is Alicent to me. The fact that the only normal one is Daeron cements it. Helaena, finally. A shame Alicent only takes her to a Sept, they could do something more to connect. Oh, they are going outside the Red Keep, with all the unrest from Rhaenyra’s gift. This must be the scene from the riot. Bad idea. Fishes to Alicent and a fall. Poor Kingsguard, bad choice cutting the hand of an old man.
Larys is sore!! And not allowing Aegon to get drugged out of his mind. New alliance.
Conclusion: Men are terrible. So are women who ally with the patriarchy. I know I can’t hope for Alicent to be a feminist by modern standards but neither is Rhaenyra (She thinks power is in swords, which are very phallic like, stabbing is very penetrative, and violence. There is no power in femininity, dresses and jewels she said) managed to raise decent men.
Even hallucination Viserys I hate. Every time my hate for him dwindles, I remember (or am remembered in this case) he murdered Aemma. This is after all an hallucination and he never truly showed remorse for killing her. So sad. I must continue hating him. Interesting that Daemon wishes to have supported him more, but is now making the same mistake with Rhaenyra when she is supposed to be his redemption.
Alys might as well poisoned the Tully. Hilarious.
Seasmoke really said if this human doesn’t claim me, I will claim him.
Rhaenyra and Mysaria again. Reflecting on Daemon, and I hit it right on the nail, Rhaenyra wishes she were a man. Freud would have a field day with this show. To posses but not be possessed, good description of Daemon. They are bonding. Poor Mysaria, abused so many ways and so young. I love she trusts Rhaenyra with her secret, something she never told Daemon, I think. Her yearning for being seen us heartbreaking. Neither of them look very friendly… Oh, they kiss!!! A win for us bi girls everywhere. So passionate and didn't feel forced. Shame they get interrupted. Addam is here! And poor Jace, left behind again.

one of my favorite things about hotd is how we get exposed to the differences in the dragons' personalities. one great way to see this is through how each dragon forms a bond with a new rider. when aemond claimed vhagar, she bucked around like a bull and tried to throw him off to make him prove his worth by staying in the saddle. when seasmoke claimed addam, he hunted addam down and basically claimed addam himself. when hugh claimed vermithor, he stood up to him and roared in his face. and when silverwing claimed ulf, she headbutted and sniffed him before deciding to take him for a joyride. each has such a distinct personality and you can see a clear dichotomy between dragons pursuing their riders and riders pursuing their dragons.

H: "It has eyes, though, I don't believe it can see." A: "And why is that so, do you think?" H: "It is beyond our understanding."
Tumblr media
L: "People have eyes, boy. Yet his Grace the King, it seems, will not accept what his eyes see. This flimsy shield alone stands between you, and the headsman. The willful blindness of a father towards his child."
Tumblr media
H: "The last ring has no legs at all."
Helaena's first prophecy in S1 E6. The more I see it the more I believe it refers to Viserys' terrible parenting and how it propelled the events of the Dance and the end of the Targaryen dynasty as rulers with Bran the Broken.
He really did start it all.

You ever notice after Aegon r*pes Dyanna, Alicent doesn’t say, “How could you do that to a woman? A human being??”
She starts talking about herself and Helaena like the r*pe will look badly them.
“Think of the shame on your wife, on me! How can you keep carrying on like this, especially on a day like today.”
So this is a pattern of behavior and he’s r*ped before. Smfh.
Yep, I picked up on that. Alicent’s conversation with Aegon was similar to the one she had with him episode 6.
In episode 6, instead of actually attempting to be a good mother and scold her son for bullying his brother, she was basically telling him that it’s ok to do it as long as he did it in private. She was angry because Aegon was ruining their family image, not because he was being a jerk to his younger brother and terrorizing him.
In episode 8, same thing. Instead of scolding Aegon for doing something like this and telling him that it is not ok to r*pe women, she was more concerned about the public perception of her messed up family.
She was not saying, “How dare you r*pe girls?!” She was saying, “How dare you make a spectacle of yourself and embarrass our family? That girl was ready to tell the whole world what you did, and I had to shut her up with words of comfort and moon tea!”
Alicent is a terrible mother and a horrible human being, not to mention a traitor to her own gender. She seems to like the idea of women being meek, helpless and serving men’s interests. She only ever cared about maintaining the public’s perception that she has a “perfect family”, compared to Rhaenyra.
Why does she care about that so much? Because she needs people to be more ok with them usurping Rhaenyra’s throne when the time is right.
And she has the nerve to look all innocent at that Council meeting in episode 9 and claim that she had no part in the conspiracy, when this is precisely what she had been occupying her entire life with ever since she became Queen. From the moment that crown was put on her head, Alicent had made Rhaenyra’s life her business: stalking her, using her power as Queen to emotionally abuse her, bad mouthing her and her children to her husband, undermining her at every turn and gossiping with her guy friend/murderous shield/guy she undresses with her eyes, Ser Crispin. Rhaenyra and her children were Alicent’s targets for many years.
