Hi! Maybe hotchniss x daughter reader whose always got a little frown on her face when she’s in new places and around people she doesn’t know, but once she’s in Aaron or Emily’s arms she’s just a smiley pile of sunshine?🥹
Smiles and Frowns
Hotchniss x Daughter!Reader
Summary: Your parents took you to an event for FBI agents, though every time they put you down you’d get upset.
———
You weren’t the most social toddler, never wanting to be too far from your mum or dad. You didn’t like crowded places or new people, it wasn’t your thing and you definitely made it known.
Aaron and Emily had to take you with them to an important event that most FBI agents had to attend since they had no last-minute babysitter to watch you. They weren’t too sure how you were going to take this whole event.
Emily gently held your tiny hand as she walked into the room filled with various other agents, Aaron was following closely behind the two of you. You immediately froze when you saw the amount of unfamiliar faces in the unfamiliar environment.
Emily looked down at you, smiling softly. “Hey, you’re alright! It’s gonna be okay, everyone here is really nice.”
Despite the reassurance, you still kept your adorable little frown plastered on your face. You hesitated but slowly followed Emily further into the room.
You whined slightly and tried to tug away, quickly changing your mind about going in. “Mama!”
Emily chuckled slightly and immediately picked you up. “Hey, hey, hey, I’ve got you, Mama’s got you. Let’s go say hi to some people, okay?”
Your little face immediately lit up into a big smile as Emily picked you up. You gently played with her dark hair, you had watched her curl it just before leaving the house.
Emily rolled her eyes in amusement at how quickly your mood changed. “Happy now, are we?”
Emily and Aaron were chatting around, you were a little ball of sunshine in Emily’s arms, a big smile on your face the whole time. You were the cutest little thing and people couldn’t help but coo over you.
Emily had put you down for a moment to go to the bathroom, you were still in Aaron’s line of sight so she wasn’t just leaving you. Though you still didn’t enjoy being put down, your smile quickly contorted into an upset frown as you saw Emily walk off.
You played with the frills on the bottom of your dress, mirroring your father's usual frown. You crossed your tiny arms and stomped your foot. An agent squatted down to your level with a smile.
“Hey there! What’s that frown for, little lady?” The agent looked at you gently.
You kept frowning and playing with your dress, your tiny black Mary Janes hitting the floor as you stomped.
Aaron came over with a slight chuckle, picking you up from under your arms and setting you on his hip. “Sorry, she’s not too happy when we put her down.”
Your eyes lit up as Aaron lifted you up, you looked up at him with a big smile. “Daddy!”
Aaron gave you a small smile and tucked some little strands of loose hair behind your ear. “Yes, it’s Daddy.”
The agent chuckled as he witnessed your mood change. “That was a switch up! Now she’s all giggles and smiles.”
Emily appeared beside Aaron and smirked. “Oh, she’s all happy again is she.”
You giggled and took a cupcake off the food table, taking an eager bite. “Yum!”
Emily widened her eyes and chuckled. “Hey! Did you just take that? You didn’t even ask.” Obviously, she wasn’t mad at you, she thought it was amusing that you just took it.
“Mine.” You smiled as you took another bite, getting icing on your cute, little nose and cheeks.
Aaron took a napkin off the table and wiped your face, to which you tried to pull away but he didn’t let you. You held your cupcake up to Aaron’s mouth and smiled. “Daddy, bite.”
Aaron smiled and shook his head slightly. “That’s okay, it’s your cupcake. Your cupcake, honey.” He gently took the cupcake out of your little hands and held it up to your mouth.
You had made it through the event without a tantrum much to Aaron and Emily’s surprise, though it was preventable if they just didn’t put you down or leave. You could be so cranky one second but as soon as your mama or daddy was there you’d light up instantly. You really were the light of both of their lives.

Graduation day
Emily Prentiss X Daughter!Reader
Emily Prentiss X Aaron Hotchner
The morning sun rose above the city, casting a golden hue over everything it touched. Emily stood at the kitchen counter, brewing a pot of coffee, her mind racing with thoughts of the day ahead. It was Y/n's high school graduation daya milestone she eagerly anticipated and quietly dreaded.
Emily glanced at the clock, noting it was already time to wake Y/n. She made her way upstairs, her heart swelling with pride and nostalgia. Opening Y/n's bedroom door, she found her daughter still nestled under the covers, a peaceful look on her face.
"Good morning, sleepyhead," Emily said softly, sitting on the edge of the bed and gently shaking Y/n's shoulder.
Y/n stirred, opening her eyes slowly. "Is it graduation day?" she mumbled, rubbing her eyes.
Emily nodded, smiling. "Yes, it is. Time to get up and get ready. We have a big day ahead."
Y/n sat up, stretching and yawning. "I can't believe it's here already. It feels like just yesterday I was starting high school."
"I know," Emily replied, her voice tinged with emotion. "It feels like just yesterday you were starting kindergarten."
At that moment, Aaron Hotchner appeared in the doorway with a proud smile. "Good morning, ladies. Ready for the big day?" he asked, his eyes twinkling.
"Morning, Dad," Y/n said, giving her stepfather a warm smile. "I guess so. It's all a bit surreal."
Aaron kissed Emily on the cheek before ruffling Y/n's hair. "It's going to be a great day. Now, let's get you ready."
The football field stands were filled with excitement. Families and friends filled the seats, waiting for the ceremony to begin. Emily and Aaron found a spot near the front, their cameras ready to capture every moment. Jake, JJ, Penelope, Derek, Spencer, and Rossi sat beside them. Jake saw Y/n and was quick to point her out. They saw Y/n standing with her friends in her cap and gown, chatting and laughing.
The ceremony began, and the superintendent gave a speech, followed by the principal. Soon enough, the principal ended his speech and announced, "Now for our final evening speech from our valedictorian, Y/n Prentiss."
Y/n stands and walks forward, composing herself before she speaks.  "Principal Jones, faculty members, fellow students, family, and friends, welcome. We never thought this day would come. We never thought we'd be standing in these gowns, hoods, and fabulous caps.
When I think about high school, I think about moments, and you all know which moments I'm talking about, such as first kisses, dances, and dates. It was the first time we got our hearts broken and the first time we broke someone else's heart. It was being a part of the speech and debate team here.
I never thought about it much before, but it turns out high school is one long test of our patience, dedication, and perseverance. A test of our ability to handle pressure, to put up with and push through adversity, to see if we can master that old trick of smiling through whatever the world throws at us. And now that we've passed that test, it's time to move on, move up, and move out. Time to take all the lessons we've learned and use them to get through whatever is coming next.
And for me, that's Yale. I'm ready. I think I am. I'm not entirely sure. But I know that if I wasn't ready, I wouldn't be here.
First, I would like to thank my family. From my aunts and uncles to my cousins. I have learned so much from you over the past couple of years. I want to thank my younger brother Jack for showing me what it was like to have that annoying little brother who threatened your boyfriend. I want to thank my dad, who, even though he hasn't been in my life long, has been the greatest and one of my biggest supporters. If it wasn't for the support of my family, the amazing teachers here, and, of course lastly, my mom.
My mom never told me I couldn't do whatever I wanted or be whomever I wanted. She filled our house with love, fun, books, and music, unflagging in her efforts to give me role models from Jane Austen to Elton John to Princess Diana. As she guided me through these incredible eighteen years, I don't know if she ever realized that the person I most wanted to be was her.
Thank you, Mom. You are my guidepost for everything."
Finally it came time for the graduate to stand and their names to be called one by one. Emily's heart pounded with anticipation as the list of names drew closer to Y/n's. Finally, the moment arrived.
"Y/n Prentiss-Hotchner," the principal announced.
Emily and Aaron stood up, their cameras focused on Y/n as she walked across the stage. They captured the moment Y/n received her diploma, her face beaming with pride. Tears welled up in Emily's eyes as she watched her daughter shake hands with the principal and turn to face the audience.
As Y/n returned to her seat, she caught her parents' eyes and gave them a small, triumphant smile. Emily and Aaron smiled back, feeling overwhelming pride and love.
After the ceremony, the crowd spilled out onto the school lawn. Jack was the first out and found his sister running over to her and being the first to hug her. Emily and Aaron found Y/n and Jack standing with her boyfriend Peter and his aunt amidst a sea of graduates and embraced her tightly.
"I'm so proud of you, ChĂŠrie," Emily whispered, her voice choked with emotion.
"Thank you, Mommy," Y/n replied, holding onto her mother. "I couldn't have done it without you."
Aaron stepped forward and wrapped his arms around both of them. "We're both incredibly proud of you, Y/n. You've worked so hard for this."
Y/n pulled back, wiping away tears. Emily handed her a small, wrapped box. "I have something for you," she said.
Y/n opened the box to find a delicate silver bracelet engraved with the words "To new beginnings."
"It's beautiful, Mom. Thank you," Y/n said, slipping the bracelet onto her wrist.
"It's to remind you that no matter where life takes you, you're always in our hearts," Aaron said, his voice soft and reassuring.
Y/n hugged her parents again, feeling the weight of the moment. "I love you both so much."
"We love you too, Y/n," Emily and Aaron said in unison, their hearts full.
Later that evening, they returned home for a small family celebration. The living room was decorated with balloons and a "Congratulations" banner. Penelope, Morgan, Rossi, and the rest of the BAU team were there, each offering their own words of wisdom and encouragement.
As the night wore on, Emily, Aaron, Jack, and Y/n sat together on the porch, laughter and conversation drifting from inside.
"Can you believe it's over?" Y/n asked, looking up at the stars.
"It's not over, ChĂŠrie. It's just the beginning," Emily replied, taking her daughter's hand.
"And we'll be here, cheering you on every step of the way," Aaron added, squeezing Y/n's other hand.
Y/n smiled, feeling a sense of peace and excitement about the future. "I'm ready for whatever comes next."
Emily and Aaron shared a knowing glance, both feeling the bittersweet mix of emotions from watching their daughter grow up. They sat in comfortable silence, knowing that while one chapter of their lives was closing, another was beginning. And no matter what the future held, they would face it together, their bond unbreakable and their hearts full of love.

Aaron Hotchner X Emily Prentiss X Teen Daughter reader
Request: Could you do a hotchniss x daughter reader where they have a teen daughter and she sneakily has a boy over and aaron and Emily come back from a case and they catch him leaving her room and aaron goes into protective dad mode
Third person pov...
Aaron Hotchner and Emily Prentiss had just returned from a particularly intense case in upstate New York. As they stepped off the plane, both agents were exhausted and eager to get back to their home in Virginia.
Little did they know, they were about to face one of their toughest challenges yet - parenting a teenage daughter.
Currently 16 year old Y/N was home alone, not entirely alone she had invited over her boyfriend, David to watch a movie knowing her parents would be on their way home.
They had already called to let her know they would be landing soon, the two had lots of fun spending the day together doing nothing but watching movies and raiding the kichen for snacks.
"Thank God we're back" Emily sighed as they made their way off the jet "I can't wait to sleep in my own bed."
Aaron chuckled, 'You and me both. I just hope our daughter hasn't wrecked the house while we were gone.'
Emily shot him a look, 'Our daughter is a responsible young lady. I'm sure she's been just fine without us.'
Say8ng goodbye to the rest of thw team they got into their car and drove home, but as they walked through the front door of their home.
They were met with a sight that made both of their hearts sink. In the living room, their 16-year-old daughter, Y/N, was cuddled up on the couch with a boy.
Aaron's eyes narrowed in an instant, and Emily could feel his protective instincts on high alert. The couple slowly made their way into the room, trying not to disturb the teenagers who were watching a movie.
As they got closer, they could see that the boy was not just any boy. It was David, a troublemaker from Y/N's school who they had explicitly told her to stay away from.
The teens where cuddled under a blanket, infront of them on thr coffee table were snacks and drinks, playing on the TV was (Favourite movie) Y/N never watches her favourite movie with just anyone.
The black haired woman looks at her husband and could reqd his mind, "Aaron" Emily whispered, trying to calm him down. 'Let's just talk to her." She took his hand in hers and held it.
This made the man relax slightly but a murderous look still on his face.
But before they could say anything, the movie ended and David stood up to leave, Y/N gave him a smile and stood up to hug and kiss him goodbye and sat back down on the sofa, neither teen had seen the two adults in the doorway.
The boy had a love sick grin on his face As he walked towards the door, Aaron stepped in front of him, blocking his path.
"What are you doing here?" Aaron's voice was low and menacing.
David, who previously exuded confidence, now looked like a deer caught in headlights. He mumbled something incoherent and quickly scrambled out of the house.
Emily took a deep breath and turned to her daughter, who was now standing, she had jumped up from the sofa when she hear heard her dad shout, she looked scared and guilty.
Emily crossed her arms and looked at her daughte "What were you thinking, Y/N?" She said, trying to keep her voice calm.
Y/N nervously played with her hands, not looling up at her parents and thwir disapointed look, "I'm sorry" Y/N replied, tears welling up in her eyes.
"I just really like him, and I knew you wouldn't approve" she sais tears running down her face.
Aaron let out a frustrated sigh and ran a hand through his hair. "That doesn't change the fact that we specifically forbid you from seeing him. He's not a good influence, and you know that"
Y/N shook her head, surprising her parents. "But he's not! He's actually really sweet and not at all like he appears! You always told me not to judge people and here you are doing it!" The teen yells.
She collapses onto the sofa her head in her arms. The adults looked at each other before at their cryjng daughter, they had judged the boy by appearences like she said.
Emily sat down next to her and put an arm around her shoulders. "I'm sorry Honey, you arw right we did judge him but appearance, but it still doesn't make if okay for you to sneak boys inside" she explains to the girl gently.
"Really" Y/N sniffled, wiping at her tears. Aaron knelt in front of her and took her hands in his. "We love you, Y/N. We just want what's best for you" he says gently to the girl.
Y/N nodded, "I promise, he isn't all that bad, just meet him yourself and you'll see!" She insisted.
The two look at each other then back down at their daughter. She does have a point they don't know anything about the boy.
Aaron sighed at the look his wife gave him. "Okay, we will get to know him, but if he hurts you in anyway tell him I've got a gun and knkw how to use it" Says Aaron a not happy smile on his face.
This made the girl laugh, Emily shakes her head at her husband. The couple hugged their daughter and assured her that she was forgiven.
As they talked and cuddled on the couch, Aaron couldn't help but feel grateful for his daughter's honesty and decided to trust her.
'We're going to have to keep a closer eye on her,' Emily said, sipping her tea. 'She's still young, and we can't afford to let her make mistakes like this.'
Aaron nodded, 'I know. It's just hard to believe that our little girl is already sneaking boys into her room.'
Emily chuckled, 'We were teenagers once too, Aaron. We can't expect her to be perfect. We just have to guide her and hope that she learns from her mistakes.'
As they sat in comfortable silence, both agents were reminded of the challenges of being parents to a teenager. But they also knew that they were a strong team and would do anything to protect their daughter, even if it meant going into protective dad mode every now and then.
The end!
Hope you liked this oneshot, sorry for thr wait on this request. As usual sorry for grammar and Spelling mistakes.
Requests are open!

—
The house was deadly silent ever since the incident.
Oh god, the incident.
It had been 4 days since your incident, and 4 days since you’d died. An Unsub had nabbed you while walking home from school, and by the time the team had found you, your injuries were too severe. Emily and Hotch had begged you to stay awake, to not close your eyes. But when you got to the hospital, your injuries proved too severe for you to be able to recover from.
When they pronounced you dead, Hotch and Emily had felt huge parts of them die with you.
They weren’t even lucky enough to be able to say goodbye to you.
In the long, painfully excruciating 96 hours since your death, Hotch and Emily hadn’t spoken a word to each other. Every time one of them tried to say something, the words didn’t come out. They just didn’t. The house being so silent would never be something either parent would get used to. To never hear your sometimes annoyingly loud music playing from upstairs, to never hear you yelling at your TV over a show again, God, it fucking killed them.
And everyone was sorry.
Everyone was so fucking sorry for their loss. Emily swore if she heard someone tell her that one more time she’d scream. ‘Sorry’ wouldn’t bring her child back, sorry couldn’t fix any of this. As much as it killed Hotch to do it, he knew Emily would never be able to organise your funeral. Emily never had it in her to go into your room. All of your things were the same as you left them the day you’d gone missing, save for the teddy Hotch took from your bed to keep with him.
They were both on bereavement leave from work, but from what Rossi had told Hotch, everyone was thinking of them. Hotch tried his hardest to remain stoic for Emily, but when she wasn’t there, it all came out.
His baby girl was gone, and he was never going to see her again.
Planning your funeral killed him. He didn’t understand how he was supposed to plan his own child’s funeral, and be perfectly okay with doing so. He had to pick our pictures of you, there were so many he didn’t know which ones to choose, but ultimately ended up going with your most recent school photo. Your smile was so big in that picture, given the fact you’d just gotten your braces off after complaining for the full two years you’d had them on. The people at the funeral home were considerate enough, they let him be upset without being judged, after all, he’d just lost his child. After sorting everything there, Hotch returned home, where your shoes still lay by the door.
“Emily? I’m home,” Hotch’s voice trailed off as he came into the living room, looking up at the TV to see videos of you as a baby playing. “Emily…” He heard her sniffling as she cuddled one of your teddies, choking on a sob as she heard you call her mama.
“I don’t know how I’m gonna do this without her Aaron,” she sobbed, clutching your teddy closer. Hotch sat down beside her. It was the first time Emily had broken down over your death, and Hotch too could feel himself cracking. Watching you on the screen, so young and carefree, unaware of the cruel fate that awaited you. “I want her back.”
That moment made Hotch realise that this was real. You were gone, you were never going to come home, and that they’d have to live the rest of their lives without their child. He didn’t realise that he was avoiding thinking of the fact that you were actually gone, he couldn’t bare to think of it.
But now it was all he could think of.

Masterlist /// Chapter 2
----
The balcony doors were open as you got ready, the cold night breeze blew through your room. Stepping onto the balcony with your cigarette as you watched the water below.
There was a knock on the door, “come in” you called out, not caring to look back and see who it was. “Your father is looking for you” you looked over your shoulder to see Aaron, one of your father's right hands.
“Do you have a light?” you asked, he stepped out onto the balcony with you. The cigarette rested between your lips, he lit the cigarette watching as you took a pull. As you blew out the smoke you offered him the cigarette, your red lipstick leaving a mark on it.
“Can you please get dressed? Your father is waiting on you to start dinner” he told you while taking the cigarette and tossed it off the balcony.
“I wasn’t done with that.” you rolled your eyes as you stepped into the room to get your dress. It was a beautiful emerald green dress that had belonged to your mother many years ago. You stepped into it and pulled your hair to the side, “zip me up.” He nodded, brushing the rest of your hair over your shoulder before pulling the zipper up.
“What would your girlfriend say if she saw you in here with me ?”
“I simply came up to get you for dinner, I don’t see how that concerns her” You weren’t the biggest fan of Aaron, nor were you even a fan of his girlfriend, Emily. She felt as if she was entitled to something because she was dating him.
Stepping into your heels, you headed towards the door. “Shall we?” he opened the door for you, letting you step out first as he locked your door behind him. He held his arm out for you to link yours with his as you walked down the staircase to the dining room.
Everyone was chatting as you and Aaron walked in arm in arm. His girlfriend looked especially unpleasant tonight. Aaron walked you to your seat and pulled your chair out for you, you went to say hello to your father before sitting down.
“I'm sorry I took a while to get ready” you leaned down to give him a hug. He smiled as he kissed your cheek “Bella, you look beautiful” he smiled at you.
Tonight was the monthly dinner for your father’s immediate “family” To his right sat Derek, Aaron, Emily, JJ and Matt in that order. To his left was you, Spencer, Tara, Penelope and Luke. Once a month, you all got together to have dinner and discuss the profits of that month.
Currently, you have no other position other than the boss’s daughter but since you were next in line to take over, it was mandatory that you were there. You didn’t care much for the business, you were only there to see Matt.
The two of you had been sort of seeing each other over the last few weeks. It started as out as drinks and a few blunts which ended with you in his bed. It wasn’t anything serious but you did like him, it was hard not too.
Matt was your best friend.
--
Your father pulled you to dance with him as everyone else danced together. Emily with Aaron, Luke with Penelope, JJ with Derek. Your father held your hand as he spun you around, you had always loved watching him dance with your mother.
They were so in love.
“Mind if I cut in?” Matt asked your father, he handed you over to him and patted Matt’s back before going to get a drink.
“You look beautiful” Matt whispered in your ear as the two of you danced. Your head rested on his shoulder, you could feel someone watching you, the sensation of eyes burning into your back was all you could feel. You shifted, turning so Matt stood where you previously were.
Derek made eye contact with you, his eyes never leaving yours.
You watched as JJ whispered something to Derek and stepped away from him. She stepped onto the balcony with Emily, “I’ll be back love” you whispered to Matt and headed towards the balcony too.
What the fuck were these two up to now?
The two of them were off to a corner whispering, which stopped the moment you stepped into the balcony. “Emily, Jennifer” you nodded as you walked past them to the other side of the balcony.
They returned to their conversation, glancing over at you every now and again. You leaned against the railing, watching as the water splashed against the rocks below. “Em, JJ, Dave is asking for you” You didn’t bother looking back, you knew who by their voice. The clicking of heels quieted as they headed back in and the smell of his cologne got stronger.
“Derek”
“Y/n”
“Did you need something ?”
“Just came out for a smoke”
You hummed, stepping to the left so he had some space.
“You look beautiful tonight. Your mother would have loved to see you in that dress.” he whispered to you before taking in a pull of his blunt.
Derek was well into his 20s, almost 30s and you were only at the ripe age of 21. He had known your mother for a short period of time before her passing. Aaron knew her much more than Derek did. The two of you stood outside for quite a while, the sound of waves filling your ears.
“Are you and Matt seeing each other?” Derek asked you, rather harshly you thought. “I don't see how that concerns you” you answer him in the same tone.
“You know, I think Dave would like to hear about your little romance with the armoury guy”
“Derek, shouldn't your head be up JJ’s ass or maybe Emily’s ? Why are you bothering me?” you looked over at him, he gave you a look, one you knew all too well. It was the same one your father had given you, as did Aaron.
“No” you pushed past Derek, his hand grabbing on your arm.
He pushed you back up against the wall. Derek’s eyes were looking into yours, something about the whole situation felt off but not in a bad way. It was as if you were meant to be there with him, like that.
“Listen to me, your father wants you there when he calls it quits, or god forbid, he dies. It’s your birth right” Derek stated, earning a groan from you.
“Are you fucking serious Derek ? You too ? It’s not my “birth right” to run the fucking mafia! I didn’t ask to be born. It’s not my job”
“James isn't here to do it, you know that”
The mention of James made your blood boil, how dare he even say his name to you?
“Don’t fucking say his name. It’s your fault he’s not here! it’s your fucking fault I'm “next in line” so don't ever speak his name again or I swear to god, I'll kill you.” you pushed past him and walked inside. Derek followed you inside, his hand grabbing onto your arm again. This time you turned and your hand hit his face, hard.
“Let go of me!” you pulled your arm away from him, everyone in the room stopping at the sound of your shouting. Derek stood in the middle of the room, you made your way over to the bar.
Your father just watched you, not saying anything to you. He knew you well. You never acted up unless someone irritated you. It was better to leave you alone before you end up killing someone.
Everyone went back to their business. You grabbed a bottle of whiskey, not bothering to get a glass, you took a swing from the bottle. Emily made her way over to the bar, “hey bartender! I think I'll get a cosmo” she grins at you, “think you can do that for me ?”
You ignored her, knowing that she was trying to trouble you. “Can you hear me?” she waved her hands in front of you which made you roll your eyes. She groaned and turned away.
“What a bitch” she mumbled.
You were already upset and Emily was just the cherry on top. The bottle left your hand when you threw it towards her, it hit her in the back of her head. The glass shattered and ended up on the floor, the contents of the bottle spilling all over her and the floor. Emily’s fingers touched the back of her head and pulled away, she let out a small gasp.
There was blood on her fingers.
You couldn't help but smile, they had no idea how long you had been waiting for that. Aaron rushed over to Emily to see if she was alright, you rolled your eyes again and hopped onto the counter of the bar. Taking another swing of alcohol, vodka this time, you watched as Aaron walked over to you after sending Emily off with JJ.
“You wanna be next?” you shook the bottle slightly, Aaron scoffed and looked at your father.
“Dave, control your daughter” Aaron told him.
“Don’t try that shit with me Aaron. She’s my daughter, you and your girlfriend are replaceable. I’m not telling her anything.” Dave rebutted.
So yeah, there were perks of being his daughter after all.
Dave gave you a smile as he walked over, you gave him the bottle and kissed his cheek.
“I think I'm going to head up for tonight”
“Are you sure Bella ? we should go for a walk or maybe have a drink ?” he asked
“Maybe tomorrow pops, it’s late and I think we’ve both had enough to drink for tonight” you laughed and left him in the dining hall. Heading up the stairs, there were another set of footsteps behind you.
“I swear if it's you again” you turned, expecting to see Aaron or Derek but instead were met with Matt with a pan of brownies and two forks. “Want some company ?” he gave you a small smile.
“Always” he followed you to your room, you pushed the door open and immediately got on your bed. Matt put the pan down before helping you take off your heels. He joined you on the bed, the both of you sat in silence eating until he called out to you.
“Can I ask something ? you don’t have to answer if you don't want too” he looked over at you, you laid back against the pillows.
“What’s up ?”
“Who’s James ? I kind of overheard you and Derek”
You let out a shaky breath, you never talked about James. If you knew about him, then you knew but no one ever talked about him, especially after what happened to your mother. “Oh um, you don't have to-” you cut off Matt, your hand rested on his.
“It's okay. uh-” your tongue ran across your lip, “James.. James is my brother. Well, was, I guess.” Matt's eyes focused on you, he watched you as you sat in silence, unsure if he should speak or wait for you to speak.
“James died when I was 16, he was 26 at the time. He was coming home with dad, Aaron and Derek. Dad and Aaron were in one car and James and Derek were in the other. They were ambushed, Derek was supposed to protect James, but he didn't.”
“Hey, I’m sorry” Matt gave your hand a squeeze, you shook your head and leaned it back slightly in an attempt to get rid of the tears you could feel.
“James told Derek to go check on Aaron and dad, and Derek left him in the car by himself. Apparently the cars were a distance apart, so they didn't hear it but uh-” you cleared your throat, “when Derek came back to the car, James was dead. 12 shots to the chest.” your voice wavered for a moment.
Despite the age gap of 10 years, James was your best friend. He was the one who checked on you every night and made sure you were okay. James was the first person to hold you beside your mother after you were born because your father wasn't home.
You had always had a connection with James, and a special one it was.
When he died, it felt like you lost a piece of yourself. Sometimes, you still can’t grasp the fact that he’s dead.
Matt’s voice broke your thoughts. “You can't blame Derek for it sweetheart. James told him to leave right ?” he said softly, you sat up.
“They were ambushed Matt.”
“I understand that, but you said James said to leave him there, right ?”
“Matt, they were fucking ambushed! What happened to ‘no one gets left’ ? It doesn't matter that James said to leave him! Derek should have never left him! Maybe if he used his fucking brain, then I’d still have my brother!”
Matt sat there, quietly, and watched as you got up and walked out to the balcony. He followed you out, his hand rested on your shoulder. Shrugging off his hand, you whispered, “get out” you brushed the tears off the tears that were running down your face.
“I’m-” he started.
“Get out” you said harshly, you just wanted to be alone right now.
Matt turned and left, you heard the door shut and let out a shaky breath. Your hand coming up to your chest to try and steady your breathing. The night air was cold, there were goosebumps along your arms. Heading in and shutting the doors, you began to feel like you were trapped in the dress.
Tugging and pulling at the dress, trying to reach the zipper to get it off but you couldn't. The frustration of not getting the dress off and the anger and sadness about James resulted in you on the floor, in tears, in front of the mirror. You managed to maneuver your way out of the dress.
Standing up in front of the mirror, your hand coming up to your chest again. You looked at the mirror, there was a small picture of you and James tucked into the side of the frame.
It was from when you were around 8. The two of you were at some swing set you had found. James stood behind you and you were on the swing. The two of you were smiling and laughing. You could remember it like it was yesterday.
“Higher! higher!” you giggled, your brother’s hand pushed you forward. His loud laugh filled your ears, your little hands clinging on chains of the swings to hold on.
“You can’t go higher!” he laughed, he pushed you once more. Your parents sat across from the two of you.
“James! y/n! be careful!” your mother shouts from beside your father, his arm was over her shoulder as he smiles at you two. He whispers something to her which earns in a light smack to the chest. Your father laughs as he leans in to kiss your mother.
“Smile you two!” she shouts from across from you guys. You gave her a toothy grin and your brother laughs, leaning down so his chin is on your shoulder.
This was your favourite picture of the two of you. It was right before he got caught up in your father’ business, before he stopped being happy,
before he died.
Dragging your fingers across the picture, you smile to yourself before whispering,
“I promise I'll make this right James.”

I noticed that Hotch's toddler daughter always has a pink blankie... Can I request a Hotchniss baby being insistent that Hotch HAS to have a little more pink in his suits somehow and will absolutely not take no for an answer haha?
Pretty in Pink
Hotchniss x Daughter!Reader
Summary: You were watching your parents got ready for work when you demanded your dad wears more pink in his suits.
———
You always thought your dad's outfits were boring, black suit, red tie, too dull for your liking. Emily was the same, she wore black a lot too, though she was more flexible with her wardrobe.
You were sitting on your parent's bed, watching them get ready for work. This was usual with you since you wanted to spend as much time as you could before they’d leave. Your tiny fingers were running across the soft fabric of your pink blankie while you watched Aaron fix his tie.
“Daddy, need more pink.” You stated firmly, holding up your blankie as if trying to show him an example of the colour pink.
Aaron looked over his shoulder, away from the reflection of himself in the mirror. “I need more pink? Daddy can’t wear pink to work, sweetheart.”
You slid off the bed, your tiny feet stumbling as they reached the floor. You crossed your arms and shook your head. “Yes! Daddy wear pink!”
Aaron let out a small chuckle, shaking his head. “Daddy can’t, Y/N. He needs to be tough for work.”
Emily came out of the en suite, she had heard the little conversation while she was putting on her makeup. She couldn’t help but tease her husband, supporting your little demands. “Aw come on, just a little?”
You nodded in agreement, putting your blankie on your head like a wig. Frowning and stomping your foot, you huffed. “Yeah, Daddy! Just little.”
Aaron smirked and shook his head. “Daddy can’t wear pink when he works in the FBI.”
You raised an eyebrow and frowned “Aunty ‘Nelope wear pink. She FBI.”
Aaron let out a small hum, that was true. He looked at Emily who was giving him a look that said ‘She’s right you know’. He sighed and turned to you again. “Yes well, Aunty Penelope doesn’t leave her office.”
You gave Aaron an angry frown and a grumble. You weren’t going to let him leave with house with no pink on. “Daddy, wear pink now!”
Emily had to hold in a laugh at your demanding tone, it was too cute. She smirked and raised an eyebrow at her husband. “She’s not going to take no for an answer y’know.”
Aaron just continued to fix his tie, looking at himself in the mirror. He let out a quiet laugh as he saw your grumpy face from behind him. “No pink.”
You soon realised that your angry, strict act wasn’t working, so you came up with a different tactic. You looked up at Aaron, sticking out your bottom lip and giving him your best puppy dog eyes. “Daddy wear pink, ‘ease?”
Emily knelt down beside you, squishing your tiny cheeks together with her fingers. “How could you ever say no to this cute little face?”
Aaron was always a secret sucker to your puppy dog eyes, he pretended that he didn’t get affected by it but everyone knew he did. “Alright, alright. Only a little bit of pink.”
You giggled loudly and gave Emily a little high-five. “Daddy wear pink!”
Emily laughed and picked you up on her hip, peppering your little cheek is a bunch of kisses. “Daddy’s going to wear pink!”
You and Emily disappeared into the bathroom to go and pick something pink for Aaron to wear to work for the day, leaving him alone in the bedroom. He wondered how he got so soft that you, his little toddler had managed to get him to wear pink despite his serious demeanour.
Emily soon returned to the bedroom, you in tow. You were giggling loudly as you handed Aaron a little pink flower hair clip. “Here! On tie.”
Aaron chuckled and looked over the hair clip, slowly clipping it to his tie. “There we go. Happy?”
You squealed and clapped your hands, jumping up and down. “Pink pink pink!” You pointed to the matching flower clip on Emily’s blazer. “You match with Mama!”
Emily nodded and grinned. “Yes, me and Daddy are matching! You’re matching too with your blankie.”
You nodded excitedly, holding up your blankie. “Match! Blankie pink!”
Aaron nodded and gave you a small smile. “That’s right, we all have pink on.”
Aaron and Emily did go to work with the pink flower clips on, even if Aaron did get a couple of laughs from other agents. Penelope was so surprised that the next time she saw you she gave you a bunch of presents. It took one amazing little daughter to get The Aaron Hotchner to wear the colour pink to work, that daughter was you.

First Break UP
Hotchniss
Y/n Hotchner sat on her bed, staring blankly at the wall. Her room, once a sanctuary filled with memories of laughter and shared secrets, now felt hollow and cold. The past few days' events replayed in her mind like a cruel loop she couldn't escape.
Jake, her boyfriend of two years, had cheated on her. Not just with anyone but with her best friend, Sarah. The betrayal cut deep, shattering her trust in the two people she thought she could rely on the most.
Her phone buzzed beside her, but Y/n ignored it. She had been avoiding everyone lately—her friends, her dad, even Emily Prentiss, her dad's fiancée, whom she had grown close to over the past year. The pain of betrayal was too raw, too consuming.
Emily and Aaron were standing down the hallway, talking in hushed voices. They discussed what to do when Aaron suggested that Emily try talking to Y/n.
Footsteps approached her door, and a gentle knock echoed through the room. Y/n didn't respond, hoping whoever it was would take the hint and leave her alone. The door creaked open anyway, and Emily stepped inside, expressing concern and empathy.
"Y/n," Emily began softly, her voice filled with compassion. "Can we talk?"
Y/n looked up, her eyes red-rimmed from crying. She didn't say anything, but the look on her face spoke volumes.
Emily approached slowly, sitting down beside Y/n on the bed. "I know you're hurting, sweetheart. And I can't pretend to understand what you're going through, but I want to be here for you."
Y/n's resolve crumbled at Emily's words. She had been pushing everyone away, but Emily's sincerity touched her heart. "He cheated on me, Em," Y/n finally whispered, her voice trembling with emotion. "With Sarah."
Emily's heart broke for Y/n. She reached out and pulled her into a comforting embrace, letting Y/n bury her face in her shoulder as tears streamed down her cheeks. "I'm so sorry, Y/n. You deserve so much better."
For a long time, they sat there in silence, the only sound the quiet sobs of a broken heart slowly trying to mend.
Days turned into weeks, and Y/n slowly began to heal. Emily was there every step of the way, offering a listening ear, words of wisdom, and sometimes just silent companionship. They spent evenings curled up on the couch, watching movies or reading books.
One evening, after Emily had returned home from a horrific case and exhaustion finally caught up with Y/n, she nestled closer to Emily on the couch, her eyes drooping with weariness. Emily gently stroked her hair, the gesture soothing and maternal.
"You should get some rest, sweetheart," Emily murmured as Aaron walked in and smiled at them.
Y/n nodded faintly, feeling safe and cared for in Emily's presence. "Mom," she whispered sleepily, the word slipping out almost unconsciously.
Emily's heart skipped a beat at the unexpected endearment. She looked down at Y/n, her eyes brimming with tears of joy. "Yes, honey?"
Y/n stirred slightly, her voice barely audible as sleep claimed her. "Love you, Mom," she murmured before drifting into a peaceful slumber.
Emily held Y/n close, tears of happiness trailing down her cheeks. It was a moment she had dreamed of but never dared to expect. As Y/n slept peacefully, Emily whispered back, "I love you too, sweetheart," knowing that their bond had deepened beautifully and healingly.
In the quiet of the evening, Emily Prentiss and Y/n Hotchner found solace in each other's presence, their hearts entwined in a journey of healing, forgiveness, and the unbreakable bond of family.

Prom
Emily Prentiss X Aaron Hotchner
Aaron Hotchner X Daughter!Reader
Emily Prentiss X Step!Daughter!Reader
The late afternoon sun cast a warm glow over the Hotchner household as Y/n paced the living room, her phone pressed to her ear. She was in a heated discussion with her best friend, Jess, about the unexpected turn of events. Peter Parker, the boy she'd had a secret crush on for the better part of the year, had just asked her to prom—only two days before the event.
"I can't believe he asked me now! What am I supposed to wear?" Y/n exclaimed, her voice a mix of excitement and panic.
Jess laughed on the other end of the line. "You'll figure it out! It's Peter Parker. This is your moment!"
Y/n ended the call and sank onto the couch, her mind racing. Aaron Hotchner and Emily Prentiss sat at the kitchen table, sharing a quiet moment after dinner. They exchanged a glance, sensing Y/n's distress.
"Everything okay, sweetheart?" Aaron asked, standing up and moving to sit beside his daughter.
"Dad, Peter asked me to prom!" Y/n blurted out. "But it's in two days, and I don't have a dress or anything!"
Aaron smiled, a hint of relief in his eyes. "That's wonderful news, Y/n. Don't worry. We'll figure something out. Emily, what do you think?"
Emily's eyes lit up with excitement. "A last-minute prom emergency? Sounds like a challenge I'm up for," she said with a grin.
Y/n looked at Emily with hopeful eyes. "Really? You think we can find everything in time?"
Emily nodded confidently. "Absolutely. We'll make a day of it. Get your things; we're going shopping."
The next morning, they were off to the mall. The bustling activity didn't deter Emily, who easily navigated the crowds, leading Y/n through the maze of stores. They started with dresses, visiting every boutique and department store for the perfect gown. After hours of trying on countless options, Y/n emerged from the dressing room in a midnight blue dress that shimmered under the store lights.
Emily's eyes widened in delight. "That's the one," she said. "You look stunning, Y/n."
Y/n twirled in front of the mirror, a radiant smile on her face. "I love it! Thank you so much, Emily."
They moved on to shoes, accessories, and makeup with the dress secured. By the end of the day, they had everything they needed. Laden, with shopping bags, headed home, feeling a sense of accomplishment.
On the day of prom, the house buzzed with excitement. Emily set up a mini salon in the living room, complete with curling irons, makeup brushes, and a selection of beauty products. She worked meticulously, styling Y/n's hair into elegant curls and applying her makeup with a practiced hand.
As she worked, Emily chatted with Y/n, sharing stories of her prom and giving advice on handling the evening. "Just be yourself and have fun," she said, applying the finishing touches to Y/n's makeup. "Prom is all about making memories."
Y/n nodded, her nerves settling as she took in Emily's calm demeanor. "Thanks, Emily. I don't know what I would have done without you."
Emily smiled, giving Y/n's hand a reassuring squeeze. "You're going to have an amazing time. And Peter is a lucky guy to be going with you."
By early evening, Y/n was ready. She stood in front of the mirror, taking in her reflection. The midnight blue dress fit perfectly, the shoes added just the right height, and the accessories sparkled in the light. Her hair and makeup were flawless, thanks to Emily's expert touch.
Aaron walked into the room, his eyes widening as he saw his daughter. "You look beautiful, Y/n," he said, his voice filled with pride.
Y/n blushed, feeling a surge of confidence. "Thanks, Dad."
A few minutes later, the doorbell rang. Aaron answered it, revealing Peter Parker standing nervously on the porch, dressed in a sharp tuxedo. He smiled awkwardly as Aaron let him in.
"Hi, Mr. Hotchner," Peter said, shifting from foot to foot. "Is Y/n ready?"
Aaron nodded, stepping aside to reveal Y/n standing at the top of the stairs. Peter's eyes widened, a look of pure admiration on his face as Y/n descended the stairs.
"Wow, Y/n, you look amazing," Peter said, his voice filled with awe.
Y/n smiled, her nerves melting away. "Thanks, Peter. You look great, too."
Emily snapped a few photos of the pair before they left, capturing the moment for posterity. She and Aaron exchanged a proud glance as they headed out the door.
The prom's venue was decorated in a whimsical fairytale theme, with twinkling lights and elegant drapery creating an enchanting atmosphere. Y/n and Peter entered, hand in hand, greeted by a sea of familiar faces and the sound of laughter and music.
"Y/n! Over here!" Jess waved from across the room, standing with their friends.
Peter led Y/n to the group, where they were met with excited chatter and compliments on their outfits. The DJ played a mix of upbeat and slow songs, and soon, the dance floor was packed with students enjoying their night.
Peter smiled, his nerves easing. "Let's dance."
They moved to the center of the floor, and as the music swelled, Y/n felt herself relax. She and Peter moved in sync, laughing and chatting between songs. When a slow song began, Peter gently took her hand and wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her close.
"You're good at this," Peter said softly, his cheeks slightly pink.
Y/n laughed. "You're not so bad yourself."
As the night continued, they mingled with friends, took photos at the decorated booths, and sampled the delicious refreshments. The atmosphere was filled with joy and celebration, a perfect send-off for their high school years.
During one of the faster songs, Peter and Y/n joined a group dance, where everyone mimicked the silly moves of the class clown, Ryan, who had somehow convinced the DJ to play a retro dance hit. Y/n found herself laughing so hard that her sides hurt, and she was grateful for the fun and light-heartedness of the evening.
The DJ announced the last dance as the prom began to wind down. Peter and Y/n returned to the dance floor, where he gently took her hand. The music was slow and romantic, a fitting end to a magical night.
"I'm really glad I asked you to prom, Y/n," Peter said quietly. "Tonight has been incredible."
Y/n looked up at him, her heart swelling with emotion. "Me too, Peter. It's been perfect."
After the final dance, they lingered for a while, saying goodbye to friends and taking a few more photos. Finally, Peter walked Y/n to her door with a gentle smile.
"I had a great time tonight, Y/n."
"Me too, Peter. Thank you," Y/n replied, feeling a warm glow of happiness.
"Maybe we could do it again. Not prom, but a date?" Peter asked with a small smile. As an answer, Y/n leaned in and kissed his cheek, a blush forming on both of them. "I would love that." Y/n smiled.
Peter nodded and waved as he walked back to his car. Y/n turned to enter the house, feeling the day's exhaustion catch up with her.
Emily and Aaron were waiting in the living room, their faces lighting up as Y/n walked in.
"Welcome back, Cinderella," Emily teased gently. "How was it?"
"It was perfect," Y/n said, her smile widening. "Thank you both so much."
Aaron hugged his daughter tightly. "We're glad you had fun."
Emily stood nearby, her eyes shining with affection. "You were the belle of the ball."
Y/n stepped over to Emily, feeling a rush of emotion. "Emily, I... I just wanted to say thank you. For everything. You've been amazing."
Emily's heart swelled with warmth. "You're welcome, hunny. It was my pleasure."
Y/n hesitated for a moment, then took a deep breath. "Goodnight, Mom."
Emily's eyes filled with tears, and she pulled Y/n into a tight hug. "Goodnight, sweetheart."
As Y/n headed upstairs, Aaron wrapped an arm around Emily's shoulders. "She's lucky to have you," he said softly.
Emily smiled, leaning into Aaron. "We're all lucky to have each other."
And with that, they turned off the lights and headed to bed, their hearts full of love and the promise of many more memories.

Aftermath
Aaron Hotchner x Daughter!Reader
Summary: Aaron was quick to come and save you and Jack from Foyet.
A/N: I appreciate you, anon! I love you and all the support you put on my work 🫶🏻 I hope you like this! I haven’t really wrote angst before so let me know how I did!
TW: Mentions of death, funerals and blood.
———
All Aaron could feel was the rage bubbling instead of him as he landed one punch after another to Foyet’s now-lifeless body. He felt two strong arms suddenly restrain him, trying to stop him from throwing more punches.
“Hotch! Hotch! He’s dead! Hotch, stop! Come on, stop! It’s over! It’s over… it’s okay… it’s over man.”
Morgan kept his grip tight around him, making sure Aaron didn’t try and go in for another swing.
Aaron couldn’t help but break down sobbing, freeing himself from Morgan’s grip. He had to find Jack, he had to find you. He got up, stumbling into what used to be his home office. He remembered that Jack liked to sometimes hide in the box beside his desk while he worked. He opened the lid to the box and felt a small feeling of relief wash over him seeing that Jack was indeed in there, safe and unharmed. Though you weren’t there.
“I worked the case, Daddy, just like you said,” Jack announced softly, looking up at Aaron.
Aaron nodded and quickly took Jack out of the wooden box, setting him on the floor in front of him. “Jack, buddy, where’s your sister? Where’s Y/N?”
Jack looked around a gave a small shrug. “She ran off when you told me to hide.”
Aaron could hear his heartbeat in his ears, he could feel his face pale and his blood run cold, his panic for your safety making him dizzy. He nodded quickly and let JJ take Jack’s hand. “Alright, we’ll find her buddy.”
JJ took Jack away from the commotion and outside to get checked over by the EMTs. Aaron was panicking, though he was trying to stay calm, he knew Foyet wouldn’t hesitate to hurt you. You were a toddler against a full-grown serial killer.
“Y/N! Honey? Y/N! Where are you?” Aaron called out, going from room to room trying to look for you. He could only hope to god that you were okay.
Emily and Morgan were also looking around for you, checking every closet, under every bed, cabinets, and cupboards, they weren’t leaving till they found you.
“Come on out, sweetheart! It’s okay! It's Aunty Emily, your Daddy’s here too. Where are you, honey?” Emily yelled out as she searched downstairs.
Aaron opened the door to your nursery, or what was your nursery before you, Jack and Haley were placed in protective custody. He saw your closet door cracked open slightly, he took a deep breath, trying to prepare himself for what he could potentially see when he opened the door.
You saw the closet door open and let out a little cry, hugging your pink blankie tightly to your chest. “Daddy!”
Aaron’s heart skipped a beat, noticing the blood staining your tiny pink shirt. He quickly picked you up into his arms and called over his shoulder. “I found her!” He turned back to you and frantically checked you over, trying to make out if the blood belonged to you.
You were heaving with sobs, you were terrified at the whole ordeal, you were separated from Jack, and you saw your mother in a pool of her own blood. That was a lot for a 2-year-old to handle.
Aaron held you tightly to his chest and rubbed your little back, trying to provide just a bit of comfort after he confirmed that you had no life-threatening injuries. “You’re okay, Y/N… you’re alright, just breathe… just breathe.”
Aaron was trying to calm his own heart rate, taking a quick moment to catch his own breath as well as soothing you at the same time. Morgan and Emily quickly ran into the room when they heard Aaron’s yell, they both saw the blood on you.
“Is she alright? Is the blood hers?” Morgan asked quickly, yelling into the hallway of the house for a medic.
Aaron shook her head, cradling you in his arms. “No… no. She has a couple of scratches but nothing bad.” He turned to you gently. “Y/N did you see Mummy?”
You looked up and started to cry louder. “Mama got big owie! Daddy help Mama!”
Aaron didn’t have the heart to tell you what had happened just yet, not right now. He took a deep breath, trying to keep his own tears at bay but he couldn’t help the small hot tear that ran down his cheek. “Shhh… it’s okay, it’s okay.”
———
The day of Haley’s funeral came, Aaron had helped Jack into his little suit and you into your tiny black dress. It was hard to explain to a 5-year-old and a 2-year-old about the death of their mother, you didn’t quite understand what was going on, and you were still confused about when Haley was going to get back.
You looked up at Aaron as you held a white rose in your tiny hands, your pacifier in your mouth to soothe you. “When Mama back?”
Aaron gently bent down to your level, taking a slow but deep breath, trying to keep calm. “Y/N, honey… Mama’s not coming back.” He gently tucked a loose strand of hair behind your tiny ear.
You gave Aaron a frown and looked over towards your big brother, noticing the sombre look on his face. “Why? Where Mama?”
Aaron picked you up and set you on his hip, he gently tapped your chest. “Mama’s in here, in your heart. Forever.”
You looked a little confused but nodded slowly, the realisation that Haley wasn’t coming back was not registering in your little mind. “Mama come back.”
Aaron shook his head slowly. “Mama’s not coming back. It's okay, N/N…”
The service soon came to an end, Aaron helped you and Jack put the white roses on top of Haley’s coffin. He turned to you and Jack, “Can you say goodbye to Mummy?”
Jack nodded and waved at the coffin, blowing a kiss in its direction. “Bye, Mummy. I love you and miss you.”
You copied Jack's actions, waving and blowing a kiss. “Bye-bye, Mama! Luv you! Show you drawing when you home and we have tea party!”
Aaron knew it would take you a while to actually realise that Haley wasn’t coming home and you’d never see her again, he knew you still had that little hope in you that she’d come back, he couldn’t blame you since you were still a baby.
Haley always told you she’d come back every time she left whether that was leaving you at daycare, with her sister or simply putting you down for the night, she always promised you she’d come back. Only this time she didn’t.

You let out a yelp as you fell from the steps of the slide, your back hitting the ground first and then your head with a small thud. Jack, who was sitting on a swing, jumped off of it and ran towards you.
“Are you okay?” Your older brother asked you, helping you up onto your feet. You nodded and rubbed your head, feeling throbbing coming from the side of it.
“Yeah, but my head hurts a little,” You said, your face screwed up as you looked up at Jack. He nodded and held your hand, leading you into the house.
“Dad?” Hotch put the plate he was cleaning down on the side of the sink, turning around to face you and Jack. “Y/N fell and said her head hurts.” Jack told him. Your dad moved over and crouched down in front of you.
“What happened?” He asked you.
“I fell from the slide and now my head hurts,” You told him. Hotch sighed, looking you over for any injuries.
“You wanna go see mom and sit with her for a bit?” You nodded and held your arms out to your dad for him to pick you up. “Alright, let’s go.” Hotch stood back up, holding you at his hip. You rested your head on your dads shoulder, hoping that if you presse hard enough the thumping would go away. Emily was finishing putting your clothes away in your wardrobe when your dad nudged the door open, getting her attention.
“Hey, what happened?” Emily asked, taking you out of your dads arms and into her own. She looked down, wondering what had happened to make their usually rambunctious four year old so calm and quiet. You weren’t a quiet child, nothing ever brought you down, always a happy, healthy child, and that was why Hotch and Emily were always desperate to get home after a case.
“She fell and hit her head according to Jack,” Hotch said. Emily nodded and put her hand at the back of your head, smiling sadly when you rested the side of your head on her shoulder. “She wanted to come up and see you,” Hotch added on. Emily had a weird feeling in her gut, one she felt that she should be following. “What’re you thinking?”
“I don’t know, she’s never usually this quiet, even after she gets hurt,” Emily said, her eyebrows knit together as she looked down at you. “I mean, it’s probably nothing, I’m probably overreacting.” She said. Hotch shook his head.
“We can take her to the ER if you want,” Hotch suggested. This time it was Emily’s turn to shake her head, pushing that feeling away. After all, kids get hurt all the time, hell, your parents knew that you did, and you bounced back everytime, maybe you just needed a few minutes.
“Its fine, you’re alright, aren’t you Y/N?” Emily smiled in relief when you nodded with almost your full energy, giving both of your parents a thumbs up of reassurance. Your dad nodded and kissed the top of your head.
“Okay, I’ll go and check on Jack and make sure that he’s not getting him self into trouble,” Hotch said, leaving you and your mom alone in your room. Emily sat down with you on her lap, sitting against the headboard of your bed.
“Remind me to tell your dad not to let Jack watch over you when you’re outside,” Emily said, her chin resting on the crown of your head. You sat for a few minutes before your mom sat up, putting you on your feet and sitting at the edge of your bed. “Alright, go and get me your pj’s, you’re having early bedtime tonight.” Emily said. You pouted up at your mom, your eyebrows furrowed together, making Emily laugh, a smaller, cuter version of your father.
“I’m not tired!” You whined, crossing your arms over your chest. Emily gave you the look, making you cave in and stomp over to your dresser in reluctancy. Suddenly, you felt dizzy, a little sick, and very, very tired. Your head started to hurt even more, causing your face to screw up in pain. “Mommy, I don’t feel good.” You whimpered. Emily didn’t have anytime to react before you fell to the ground unconscious, your body shaking.
“Y/N!” She yelled, acting quickly and grabbing one of your pillows to place under your head. “Aaron!” Hotch ran up the stairs, Jack following after him. He froze upon standing at the doorway, you’d stopped shaking, only laying in your moms arms. “We-we need to get her to the hospital.” Emily said, looking up at her husband with tears in her eyes.
“Alright, come on, let’s go,” Hotch said, moving Jack out of the way so Emily could get you out and downstairs.
-
Hotch sat at the side of the bed you were asleep on, his hand holding your much smaller one in his own. Emily had taken Jack home, despite Emily disputing that she’d be fine to stay with you the night. Hotch had forced her to go, telling her that she’d see you in the morning. But, Emily Prentiss was as stubborn as he was, and he knew the figure standing in the doorway would be her.
“I thought I told you to go home and get some sleep, Emily,” Hotch said, looking up at his wife. She shook her head as he sat down across from him, the other side of your bed.
“I tried to, but I couldn’t fall asleep. JJ volunteered to look after Jack, and I just couldn’t stop thinking that it’s my fault,” Emily said. Hotch reached forward and took Emily’s hand.
“There was no way you could have known this was gonna happen, we didn’t know,” Hotch assured her. Emily let out a shaky sigh, nodding as she saw your eyelids twitching, then a small whimper coming from you as they opened. “Hey, take it easy, honey ” Your dad said. You rubbed your eyes as your parents helped you sit up.
“My head hurts again,” You said. Emily and Hotch both chuckled at your quiet statement, both smiling in the relief that you were okay. The doctors had diagnosed you with epilepsy, and it had been triggered by when you’d hit your head when you fell. “Where am I?” You asked.
“You’re at the hospital,” Emily said. You tilted your head, looking at her and then your dad.
“Why?” Emily and Hotch both looked at each other in confusion, did you not remember?
“You don’t remember?” You shook your head at your dad. “You hit your head and you got sick for a little bit, but you’re gonna be alright, because the doctors know what’s going on and know how to stop it from happening again.” Emily had to hand it to Hotch, he knew how to explain things to a small child like it was no mans business.
