y'all, my country is gonna show on this one – you can take the girl outta the country, but you can't take the country outta the girl LOL
UPDATE -> PART ONE HERE • PART TWO HERE!— favored to win in barrel racing for the upcoming rodeo, you’re out in the corral practicing when your obnoxious neighbor, tyler owens, swings by to say hi – but when the wind picks up? you both won’t have a choice but to trust each other  | ( TW: natural disasters, tornado, injuries • witty banter as foreplay, fluff in their own stupid way, enemies to idiots in love, tyler owens x reader )
The engine on his truck cut out, his boots shuffling in the grass as he hopped out, and the heavy slam of his door told you today just wasn’t your day.
Walking up on you he tutted, teasing. "Woke up on the wrong side of the bed this mornin', sweetheart?” and that snagged your attention.
Dismounting faster than he could blink, you were out of your saddle and marching across the corral to kick at the fence board his boot was resting on. The force of it made him stumble backward and he laughed again, flicking his toothpick off into the wheel ruts of your driveway.
“Alright, alright,” he held his hands up in defense and took his sunglasses off, tongue running along his bottom lip and still grinning like an idiot, “Didn’t come here to get my ass kicked.”
“Could’ve fooled me,” you snarked, pulling your hat off to fan at your face, “You know I’m trainin’ right now.”
“Mmhm,” he agreed, notching his foot back between the fence boards and leaning his elbows lazy at the top, “But I also know it’s near a hundred degrees and the humidity’s sittin’ at 50%. You been drinkin’ water?”
You swallowed, mouth dry, and rolled your eyes at him before turning your back to walk to the gate, “I’m fine.”
He pushed off the fence and chased a line around the corral, hands on the latch before you could get to it.
"What d'you say we go get an iced tea or something,” he offered, opening the gate for you, but you passed through without so much as a glance in his direction.
“No, Tyler.”
“Ah, c’mon. You and I both know it’s too hot to be out here. Tilly does too,” and when you started walking away he jogged ahead, back peddling his steps so that he could look at you. “C’mon, Sawyer. Just a nice cold iced tea between friends?”
Sawyer. The nickname he’d gifted you when you’d moved in next door, a nod to your hometown – Sawyer, Oklahoma.

What's In A Name? Chapter Nine
Meg Harding and Kate Carter were inseparable until their friends died five ago, then she ran to New Orleans to save lives as a paramedic. But when Javi calls on his two oldest friends to help him collect data, counting on their matching natural instincts for tornadoes, Meg goes home for the first time in years. That's where she meets Tyler and the rest of the Wranglers, the YouTube storm chasers her dad likes to watch, and finds herself fitting in more with them than with Storm PAR. Meg only plans to stay for the week but will it be easy to leave when the dust settles?
If a certain cowboy has a say in it, nothing about leaving is going to be easy.
A/N: The OG chasers make a group chat and the twister shifts towards a crowded town.

Previous Chapter
Katie and Tyler had their plans all laid out, the science behind them seemed solid enough. Cathy had practically kicked them out of her house but made them promise to come back before heading home. Meg’s heart twinged when she thought of her life in New Orleans but she didn’t dwell on the thought long, quickly falling asleep in the back seat as Meg and Tyler talked science. Nick’s ringtone is what pulled her back to the land of the living some time later.
“Hey, Hot Stuff. My cougar still purrin’?” The whole truck jerked, Meg assumed there was a pothole, her eyes barely open.
“You know it, Honey Buns. You know, since you’ve been gone so long I was thinking of getting her some training wheels, in case you forgot how to do your job.”
“I’m better than you on your best day, I’ve got moves you ain’t ever seen,” The truck jerked again and Meg finally opened her eyes, Kate was looking back at her, eyebrows up at her hairline. She pointed at Tyler, who was blocked by the seat at the angle Meg was leaning against the window. “Hold on, babe. My boyfriend is trying to kill us.” Nick’s laughter rang in her ear.
“It’s Nick isn’t it?” Tyler sighed, chuckling to himself. “Sorry,”
“Who’s Nick?”
“Her partner at work,” Tyler explained, Nick was still laughing his ass off.
“Nick, if you don’t stop laughing, I’m fixin’ to tell your wife,” She kicked the back of Tyler’s seat, making sure he heard that part. “About Tommy’s bachelor party.”
“And I’ll tell your man ‘bout the supply closet. Truce?”
“Truce but it’s official, I ain’t ever lettin’ y’all meet, nuh uh, over my dead body.” Nick and Meg laughed, continuing to chat about all the workplace drama she had missed so far.
“Can’t wait to have you back, Meg.”
“Yeah, me too,” Meg couldn’t tell if she was lying or not. “Gotta go, Hot Stuff. Make sure you scrub that rig good tonight, you know she’s a dirty girl after a shift.” When she hung up, Meg sat up straight in the seat, catching a glimpse of Tyler’s pink cheeks in the rearview mirror.
“You always talk like that to colleagues, Mud Bug?” Meg snorted, knowing how out of place the flirting sounded to anyone who was outside of the field. Fire fighters, police, and medics all had a twisted sense of what was appropriate. Normal people had a line that they’d never cross, fearing being impolite or crude, the people in Meg’s line of work however crossed that line with glee.
“Only the married ones,” She reached up over the seat, resting both hands on Tyler’s shoulders. “How much longer we got on the road?”
“Not long,” He squeezed her hand, keeping the other on the wheel. “How’s Nick?”
“He’s annoyin’ as ever, they assigned him a rookie EMT as a partner while I’m gone and let’s just say, it’s goin’ interestin’ for the both of ‘em.”
When they pulled into the auto-garage, the rest of the Wranglers were standing there waiting for them, including the reporter.
“Ben, you stuck around,” Tyler greeted the man, hopping out of his truck. Meg rolled her eyes, heading straight for Lily, who pulled her into a hug.
“How’s everything going, darlin’?” Meg asked, “Saw y’all chased without us.”
“Boone won’t stop moping that Tyler left him behind,” Lily snorted. “How are things with you and him?” Meg pulled away, blushing,
“Let’s just say, I’m wonderin’ what kind of rings you’re picking out for us.” Lily squealed with excitement and Meg had to clamp a hand over her mouth when everyone’s head turned her way. “Not all of Oklahoma needs to be in on this conversation.”
“Sorry, sorry, I’ll text you pictures later.”
“Hey, y’all ready?” Dani called out to the group and everyone converged, Meg and Lily hanging towards the back of the group while Dani ran the salesman down the specifications of what they needed.
After settling on an aluminum trailer, the Wranglers drove out to a field and started working on preparing the barrels and rockets.
“What are you doing over here, Meg?” Boone stuck the camera in her face, grinning like a dope.
“I’m checking all of my supplies, making sure everything’s ready to go in case there’s trouble.”
“Y’all, meet Meg, she’s a badass paramedic that’s got T wrapped around her little finger,” Meg batted at him. Boone laughed, dancing away to go check on Lily and Cairo. She felt her phone buzz in her back pocket.
“Oh lordy, they done made a group chat.”
Dad: You’re on the livestream!
Rabbit: Wrapped around your finger?
Haynes: Leave her alone Rabbit
Dad: When are y’all getting married?
Lawrence: She’s never getting married out of spite at this point
Meg chuckled at Lawrence’s text, appreciating the throwback to when she looked her Grandma Harding in the eye after being admonished for not “sitting like a lady” and how “no man wants to marry a wild animal” and said with all of the conviction in the world: I ain’t ever gettin’ married.
Dad: Don’t say that
Joey: Yeah, shut up Lawrence
Haynes: Don’t be mean to him
Preacher: Be careful out there, Meggy
Meg: Always am, Preach <3
Mama: Wear your harness!!!!
Meg tucked her phone away, going to stand by Kate who was quietly snapping pictures.
“You ready to tame a tornado?” Meg rested a hand on the middle of Kate’s back, waiting until she stopped snapping photos tto bring her in for a hug.
“Ready as I’ll ever be. I’m real glad you’re here, Meg,”
“Nowhere else I’d rather be,” Not even New Orleans. The two of them stood there, hugging for a long while before breaking apart, both of them feeling the atmosphere start to change.
“Let’s do this.”
“Something’s not right,” Meg said just as Katie announced that the Doppler went dark. “I don’t like this.” The twisting feeling in her gut only got worse when Cairo went down. Kate was silent but Meg knew by the look on her face that she was thinking the same thing.
The tornado came through the rain out of nowhere, flipping Javi’s StormPAR truck like a toy.
“Javi!” Kate screamed, her hand flying back to hold Meg’s. “Tyler, we got to do something.”
“On your left guys, it’s hitting something big!” Boone’s shout crackled over the radio and Meg let out a string of curse words that would make any sailor blush.
“Shit,”
“Oh my God,” They watched in horror as the storm barelled into some type of factory, becoming wrapped with fire.
“Oh my God. Oh my God,” Tyler quickly put the truck in drive, trying to flip them around. Meg squeezed her eyes shut, panic coursing through her veins. Was she going to die this time? Was the tornado finally going to claim what slipped out of grasp all those years ago? She vaguely heard Kate and Tyler squabbling over what to do about Javi, feeling the panic inside of her shift to an eerie calm, her training coming back to her like the second nature it was.
“Get us out of here, Cowboy.” Tyler’s eyes met hers in the rearview mirror before he high-tailed it out of there, following Javi’s truck which had somehow flipped back onto its wheels while her eyes had been shut, shouting at them to hold on.
When light started breaking through the storm clouds again, Tyler called out on the radio to check in with the team and Meg felt herself relax a little with each confirmation of safety.
“What was that?” Ben shouted somewhere in the background and Meg knew the answer in her soul. Tornadoes weren’t classified until after the fact, their strength determined by how much they destroyed, but she could feel it. They were running from the finger of God. She twisted in her seat, looking at the storm.
“It’s shifting course.”
“Shit,” Kate groaned. “It’s heading straight for a town. It’s heading for El Reno,” Kate started spouting orders over the radio and Meg undid her harness, pulling her medical bag out from under the seat, throwing the strap over her shoulder so she wouldn’t have to waste time when they stopped.
“You okay back there?” Tyler asked, reaching one hand up over his shoulder for her to squeeze.
“I’m okay, baby. Let’s get these people to safety.” That’s all he needed to hear, picking up speed as they drove past the StormPAR truck.
The town was in chaos, everyone running around and screaming. They started shouting instructions, pushing vendors away from their tents and towards shelter. There was debris flying all around, the wicked wind making it hard to stay on their feet.
“Go, go to the movie theater,” Meg guided people towards the theater. Her heart stopped when she heard Tyler scream.
“Tyler! Kate, help me.” Tyler was pinned beneath large debris, and even with all of her might, Meg knew she wasn’t strong enough to move it.
“Meg, you have to go.”
“I’m not leaving you,” She grunted, shifting her feet for better leverage. “Kate, go inside.”
“I’m not leaving you either,” Her best friend gritted out as they tried to lift the boards together. There was another large crack that sounded through the air, the scream of warping metal shooting a bolt of panic through her.
“Javi?” Meg spotted him running towards them with a board that he wedged beneath the debris.
“C’mon, guys, lift!” They managed to pull Tyler out just as the water tower crashed down, thousands of gallons of water knocking them off of their feet. The rushed into the theater just in time to see the ceiling start to cave in and began to check for a basement.
“This building isn’t built to withstand what’s coming,” Javi shouted over the roaring winds. At the sound of crashing and screaming, both of the men took off back towards the theater, leaving Kate and Meg to stare at the storm. Meg felt that calm again but it was different, it wasn’t the calm she felt under pressure when working on a critical patient. It was the calm she felt before she ran into an unsecured scene, knowing that she could die.
“You thinkin’ what I’m thinkin’?” Meg asked, praying that she wasn’t.
“I swiped his keys,” Kate held up the keyring, offering it to her. The scrunchie Meg had lost a few days ago dangling from the jump ring.
“Then let’s go.” They ran for the truck.
If they survived, their friends and mamas were going to kill them. But if this worked, they would save a lot of people too. It had been a long time since Meg had driven anywhere near a tornado but she did her best to pretend that the shaking of the cab was nothing more than the death wobble of an ambulance going 100 mph on the freeway.
“That way,” Kate pointed. Meg took a moment to strap into the harness, Tyler’s cologne overwhelming her senses, reminding her that this was a bad idea, then she shifted into gear. Meg didn’t need the directions Kate was shouting, she knew where the storm was going. And with a reckless kind of fearlessness, she pressed the gas pedal to the floor.
“This truck ain’t made for this,” Meg shouted even though they both already knew it.”
“Hope he’s got insurance,” Kate’s humor was still intact, even if her sanity wasn’t. The truck caught air going from the road to the grass, eliciting shrieks from the two women. Out of the corner of her eye, Meg saw Kate pull out her phone.
“My name’s Kate Carter and this is Meg Hardiing and today, we’re going to tame a tornado or die trying.” She locked her phone into the mount on the dash, capturing the whole cab with the camera.
“Right now there’s an EF-5 heading towards the town of El Reno,” Meg narrated. The recording was almost comforting, Jeb used to record them all the time, making them explain what they were doing. And just like when they were in the swimming pool, Meg felt like he was there with them. Kate must have felt it too, her voice shaking as she listed off the science of what they were going to do.
“If we don’t make it, we just want to say that we love you guys and mama, I’m sorry.”
“I’m sorry too,” Meg shouted, swerving to avoid debris. “You know I love y’all but you know we have to do this.” She cursed, narrowly avoiding a large tree limb. “And Ty, I love you, and I really hope you’ve got full coverage on this baby.”
“This is how you’re going to tell him you love him for the first time?”
“Not really seeing any better options here, Katie. Shit!” She stomped the breaks, deploying the anchors as soon as they stopped. “Rockets?”
“Rockets,” Kate fired them and they watched as the twisters sucked up the chemicals. Meg felt completely calm, watching the monster tornado moving closer.
“It’s beautiful,” She couldn’t help but whisper with childlike wonder. It was probably going to kill her but it really was beautiful.
“Let’s deploy together,” They hovered their fingers over the button. “One.”
“Two.”
“Three,” The mechanism went off without a hitch, the compound being pulled up by the storm around them.
“I love you, Katie my Lady.”
“I love you too, Mud Bug.” They held hands and did nothing to stop what was coming because what else could they do?
The trailer went first, lightening the weight of the truck enough for the force of the winds to move it despite the anchors. Meg’s eyes fluttered shut and her body relaxed in acceptance. Never before had the universe heard such silence in a truck being flipped like a quarter through the air, both women just waiting for the end.

Seventh fill for @mungrovebingos!! I can't believe I'm almost done with all my prompts already!! This one is fun and a little crazy, and I hope I did justice to the original idea I had for it. Anyway, I hope everyone enjoys, and Ao3 link is here.
Prompt is "Tornado Season" and it's 4,446 words.
Two weeks after moving to Hawkins, Indiana was the first time in his life that Billy Hargrove ever felt completely and genuinely lost. And it wasn’t even like he had wandered off somewhere in the woods and lost his sense of direction, either. He was sitting in school, halfway through a history test, when suddenly he heard alarm bells going off. He looked up and saw his teacher gathering a few things into a tote bag, and the rest of his classmates standing and lining up at the door, anyone who had a jacket with them taking it along.
“What is this, a fire drill? Didn’t we just have one a couple days ago?” Billy asked Steve Harrington, who had been sitting in front of him.
“Nah, man. Tornado drill. Just do what everyone else does,” Steve replied, and grinned when he saw the funny look on Billy’s face. “Welcome to Indiana, Hargrove.”
Billy followed Harrington out into the hallway, more confused than he’d ever been, and looked around to see other classrooms emptying out as well. All the students and teachers were walking in single-file lines close to the walls, obviously avoiding any and all windows and doors. Then, the students all turned to face the walls and knelt down on the floor, Billy following their lead, even though he didn’t understand. He watched as everyone else leaned forward, curling themselves into little balls on the floor, arms over their heads, and if they had jackets, they draped them over their backs and heads. Billy felt like this was some kind of joke and he didn’t get the punchline, but he didn’t want to get in trouble for not doing what he was told, so he followed the example of his classmates, curling into a ball on the floor and staying quiet for the maybe three minutes until the office lady came over the PA system and told them that the drill was over.
Billy peeked through his arms at Harrington, and once he saw him getting up, he figured it was okay for him to do the same. He got up and went back to the classroom, still confused, but didn’t ask anymore questions once the teacher told them to quiet down and finish their tests. To her and everyone else in the room, this was completely normal behavior, and so Billy just shrugged it off and went back to describing what happened at the battle of Gettysburg.
After a few months, Billy became used to it. Every month, the school was required to have the students practice fire, indoor and outdoor intruder, and tornado drills. Apparently, Hawkins was right smack in the middle of Tornado Alley, so the threat of a twister actually hitting the town was a real one. In fact, back in March, their history teacher had done a whole full-class period lecture on the Great Tri-State Tornado, since it had been the 60th anniversary and it had almost demolished the whole town or something, but Billy hadn’t really been paying much attention. So far, no tornadoes had hit close enough to be worrying, so he didn’t worry about them.
But now it was July, and it was hot. Hot and humid. And a thunderstorm had decided to roll in just as Billy began to get into it with his father, so he was not exactly happy as he finally managed to get out of the house to find out his gas tank was bordering on empty and to top things off, he was out of smokes. He groaned as he hit his head against the steering wheel, not wanting to pump gas in the wind and rain, but he knew he didn’t have any other choice. It was either do that and give his dad some time to cool down or stay at home and deal with him angry. He obviously chose the former.
So he used the last few fumes in his tank to get him to the gas station across town, not wanting it to be within walking distance of his house just in case his dad was actually mad enough to follow him in this weather. Or worse, send Max to do it. He was wet and cold because of it, despite how warm it actually was outside, and he only became further soaked as he parked at a pump and then ran inside to pay.
“Welcome to Speedway,” the bored-sounding cashier said as Billy walked inside. He barely heard him over the radio, which was blasting Metallica. Billy walked up to the counter, pulling out his wallet and cringing as his boots squeaked all across the tile floor.
“Gimme $15 on pump 6 and two packs of Marlboro reds,” Billy said, counting out some cash.
“Jesus, Hargrove, you look like a drowned kitten. That’ll be $18.08,” the cashier said, making Billy look up. Eddie Munson stood before him, grinning wildly as he pressed buttons on the cash register, waiting for Billy to hand him the money.
“Fuck off, Munson,” Billy said, but there was little heat behind it. He and Eddie weren’t really ‘friends’, per se, but he did buy weed from him occasionally and they had a similar taste in music, so Billy didn’t really have a problem with him. Sure, he picked on him sometimes, but that was mostly when other people were around, and it was never anything physical. He had a reputation to uphold, after all. Still, it did make him feel a little guilty whenever Eddie was nothing but nice to him.
“See, that’s it right there. Your face scrunches up and you look all cute when you’re angry and drenched like this. Just like a cat when it falls in a bathtub,” Eddie giggled as Billy handed him a $20 and he started collecting his change.
“Keep talking, Munson, and you’ll see how catty I can get when I scratch your eyes out,” Billy grumbled, the air conditioning in the store making him shiver in his wet clothes.
“Oh, I’m so scared, Tiger,” Eddie continued to tease as he turned around to get the cigarettes. Billy was about to say something else, but he was cut off as the radio on the counter suddenly stopped playing music, instead playing some God awful, siren-like sound, and he stared at the machine, confused.
“Ugh,” Eddie sighed as he tossed the cigarettes on the counter. “Not another one.”
“Another what?” Billy asked, brushing his wet, frizzy curls out of his face as he looked between Eddie and the radio, still waiting for a clue. Eddie just made a face and pointed over to the machine, rolling his eyes as he leaned on the counter and held his head in his hand.
“We interrupt this broadcast to bring news of a state-wide tornado warning. Due to the recent thunderstorm, a large tornado has formed, and is heading up from Kentucky towards Southwestern Indiana. From what is known, the storm is rating an F2 on the Fujita scale, but is rapidly growing to an F3. We advise everyone to seek shelter in cellars or basements, and to refrain from going outside until further notice. Thank you,” the voice on the radio said, and Billy found himself groaning again.
“Just great! Another one of these damn drills! And this time we aren’t even at school! Fuck this, I’m going home,” Billy said, grabbing his cigarettes and shoving them and his wallet in his pockets, “Keep the damn change.”
“Wait, Billy! They told everyone to stay inside. I don’t care how much of a speed demon you are, and I do mean demon, but you’re not gonna out-drive a tornado. If it’s moving as fast as they say and it’s as intense as they think, you’ll die before you even get halfway home,” Eddie said, coming out from behind the counter and grabbing Billy’s arm. Billy rolled his eyes and shook his arm free, still heading for the door, but Eddie got in front of him, blocking it.
“Dude, get out of my way,” Billy said, crossing his arms.
“No, I’m not going to. You may be a jerk, but I’m not gonna let you go out there just to get swept up and die.” Eddie said, shaking his head and looking out the windows nervously. He sighed, then said, “Look, you’re from California. They got all kinds of earthquakes out there, right? And they’re rated in intensity on a ten-level scale, right? So a tornado that rates a two or a three doesn’t sound too bad to you, does it?”
“No, it doesn’t,” Billy narrowed his eyes, wondering where this was going.
“Okay, well tornadoes go based on a five-scale, and that’s the Fujita scale. An F0 is the lowest, and it only does minor damage. Broken windows, a few broken tree branches, nothing too bad. An F5 is the worst, tearing bark off of trees, picking up and throwing well structured houses, steel buildings considerably damaged, pretty much leveling anything in its path. Now, that’s the worst possible scenario, so we don’t have to worry about that, but an F2 or an F3 is still pretty bad. F2s will uproot trees, tear roofs off of houses, and god forbid one hits the trailer park, or I’d end up homeless, it’d demolish my place. And F3s are even worse, tearing roofs and some walls down, turning over trains, totaling cars if it doesn’t pick them up and throw them, all that shit. So, yeah, you’re not leaving here. I won’t let you,” Eddie said, still standing in front of the door all jittery. Billy glared at him for a minute, but finally he rolled his eyes and dropped his arms.
“Alright then, Dorothy. But before I join you and Toto in the cellar, is there anywhere I can park my car so it won’t get picked up and thrown across town?” Billy said, getting out his keys.
“There’s a garage out back, my van’s in there. I’ll go out and open it for you and then we can come back in until the storm passes. Deal?” Eddie asked, holding out his hand. Billy rolled his eyes, but shook it.
“Deal,” he said.
Eddie grinned and bounded outside, going around the side of the building as Billy went back to his car. It wasn’t raining anymore, but the sky was still filled with dark clouds, and as Billy started his car, his leg almost got slammed in the door. The wind was blowing hard, and Billy pulled his leg in just in time, the door shutting with the force of the gusts as he put the car in drive and brought it around to the open space in the garage next to Eddie’s van. As he parked it in there and went outside to wait for Eddie to lock the place up again, he squinted into the wind, and his heart nearly stopped.
“Hey, um, Eddie? You might wanna hurry up with that lock,” he said, pointing in the direction he’d been looking. Eddie squinted too, and just barely visible in the distance was the cone-shaped mass of winds and clouds, getting bigger by the minute and swerving all over the place.
“Time to go inside,” Eddie said, grabbing Billy by his wrist and practically dragging him back inside the convenience store. He stopped for only a second to lock the doors before he grabbed him again, dragging him behind the counter and over to a big metal cabinet.
“Dude, what are you doing?” Billy asked as Eddie began throwing things out of the cabinet and onto the floor.
“So, unfortunately, this place doesn’t have a basement, so we’re gonna have to hide in here,” Eddie said, clearing the cabinet and grabbing the radio before moving to sit inside of it.
“What?! How can this place not have a basement if tornadoes are so fucking common around here?!” Billy asked, running a hand through his tangled hair in frustration.
“I don’t fucking know, it just doesn’t! Now c’mon, get in here!” Eddie said, drawing his knees up in the cramped space to make room for Billy.
“No way! I’ll take my chances out here,” he said, crossing his arms again as Eddie grabbed one of the cabinet doors and a flashlight from the floor.
“Suit yourself, but if one of those shelves comes crashing down or the glass in the windows shatters, don’t expect me to feel bad for your mangled corpse!” Eddie said, shutting the door and going for the other. Before he could grab it, Billy was climbing in next to him, grabbing it himself and reluctantly pulling it shut as Eddie turned on the flashlight.
“There, now we just have to wait for the storm to pass,” Eddie said, tuning the radio to the weather station and turning it down before he looked back up at Billy. He was biting his lip and fidgeting, seeming to be having trouble breathing as he picked at a frayed thread in his jeans.
“Hey,” Eddie asked him, “You okay?”
“Yeah, yeah, fine,” Billy said, swallowing, “Just a little claustrophobic, that’s all.”
“Isn’t that the fear of Santa Claus?” Eddie asked, hoping Billy would laugh, but he didn’t.
“No, jackass, it’s the fear of small spaces. I’ve never been great with them, but it’s fine, I-I’ll get over it,” Billy said, hating how meek he sounded. Get it together, Hargrove.
“Sorry, sorry, I was trying to make you laugh, make it a little more bearable,” Eddie said, biting his lip as he thought for a second. “If it’ll make you feel better, we can open the cabinet doors, but if the storm gets close enough that things start breaking or we can see it through the windows, we close them again, deal?”
Eddie held out his hand again and Billy shook it frantically this time, shoving open the cabinet doors as soon as it was over. Eddie left the flashlight on, even though the overhead lights meant that it wasn’t needed, and he started looking around for something to make the time go by faster. He saw a deck of cards for sale next to the register, and he crawled over to grab it from the countertop, tossing it to Billy as the boy finally started to breathe normally again.
“Shuffle those, I’ll be right back,” he said.
“Where are you going?” Billy asked, turning to watch as Eddie got up and took off running. He returned a minute later with a notebook and a pen, two bottles of Coke, and a bag of barbecue chips.
“We probably won’t be stuck here for that much longer, but just in case, I got provisions,” Eddie grinned as he set down his haul, opening the chips and popping the caps on the Coke bottles as Billy opened the cards and shuffled them. Eddie grinned when he saw that he got him to smile, the first smile he’d had on his face all day. It made him feel kinda fuzzy.
The two of them played cards and tried to relax as they waited for any news on the tornado, but none came. Fifteen minutes passed and nothing happened except two hands of cards and Billy continuing to lose as Eddie racked up points. Eddie kept the score and Billy teased him about cheating, but Eddie swore up and down that he was just that good, and it was making Billy smile. Eddie could’ve stared at that smile all day, but when he looked back up to see it again, it was gone, Billy’s expression haunted, almost, and white as a sheet.
“What’s wrong?” Eddie asked, turning to look in the same direction as Billy, and he didn’t need his question answered anymore. They could see the tornado through the windows of the convenience store, closer than ever. And it was headed right for them.
Without even a hint of hesitation, Eddie shoved everything aside and closed the cabinet doors again, his heart pounding as he hoped that the cabinet would be enough to keep them safe from harm. Now that he was thinking about it, he wished he’d grabbed the phone from under the counter, too, so that if they got trapped in there, they’d be able to call for help. But just as he was about to head back out to grab it quick, he heard the windows shatter, and he knew it was too late.
“Holy shit, holy shit, holy shit!” Billy mumbled, beginning to panic. “We’re gonna die in here, aren’t we? Fuck, we’re gonna die!”
“Hey, hey, we’re not gonna die, just relax. We’re safe in here,” Eddie said, hoping he was right, “Look, this cabinet is made of steel, nothing’s gonna get through to hurt us. We’re gonna be just fine.”
Billy nodded, but he still looked panicked, and Eddie did his best to hide it, but he knew where he was coming from. There was another loud bang from somewhere outside, and Billy only seemed to get more frantic upon hearing it, already breathing like a frightened rabbit and his voice ticking up in urgency.
“Okay, but like, just in case we do die, I got some things I wanna get off my chest first. Go with a clean conscience, y’know?” Billy said, his pulse making the veins in his neck bulge. “First off, I don’t hate everyone as much as I pretend to, especially my sister. I just don’t like it when people get close to me cuz I know I’m gonna ruin them somehow! My dad says that I always ruin everything, and he’s kinda right, so I don’t want to get close to someone just to end up hurting them in the end.”
“I’m not actually as laid back and unaffected as I pretend to be,” Eddie cut in, tucking a strand of hair behind his ear as he too started rattling things off. “I only make a joke of it because it makes it easier for my friends to take, since all the attention is on me and not them and I know I can take it, even if it makes me feel like shit!”
“I don’t have a good home life! My dad beats me since my mom left, and he belittles me so much that I kinda started hating everything about myself, but I take it because I’m scared that if I don’t, he’ll start doing it to Max or my stepmom instead,” Billy rushed out, hugging his knees to his chest and avoiding Eddie’s eyes as he began to shake.
“Until my uncle took me in, I didn’t have one, either! My mom died of cancer when I was six and my dad went to prison two years later. He used to make me help him steal cars and he would gamble away all our money and stay away from home for days at a time. By the time Wayne got me, I was starved half to death, and I still hardly notice it if I miss a meal because it’s so ingrained in me to have to wait to eat,” Eddie rattled off, scrunching his eyes shut and grabbing Billy’s hands as he heard something crash outside the cabinet.
“I don’t really get around as much as people think I do! Pretty much all of the dates I say I go on are made up! I’m kinda awful at flirting and I don’t even like girls all that much! I only really agree to go out with some of them to get out of the house, but even then, I never have a good time. I leave as soon as I can, sometimes just ditch them completely, and then go to the woods or the quarry or for a drive so I can clear my head. It makes me feel like such a dick!” Billy kept going, holding onto Eddie so tightly, his knuckles were turning white. They could hear the wind from outside knocking over shelves, breaking things, and just howling as it ripped through the building. It felt like it would never stop.
“I don’t like girls, either! I’ve only kissed a few girls in my entire life when I was younger, and it just felt so gross, I never tried it again, didn’t even want to! The only time it felt right was once when I was really, really high and I ended up kissing one of my bandmates. We both laughed it off, but I never understood why it felt okay with him and not any of those girls until I got a little older and I started crushing on a guy at school this past year and then it all made sense,” Eddie swallowed, trying to wet his throat as fear still gripped him tightly by the spine. His heart was pounding hard, and between it and the winds, he almost didn’t hear it when Billy responded.
“That’s kinda how it was for me, too. Only, the first time I had a crush on a guy, I was too scared to do anything about it. But if I’m gonna die, I’m not gonna make the same mistake twice!” He said, and before Eddie could ask what he was talking about, Billy was dropping his hands and grabbing his face instead, crashing their lips together and moving back again before Eddie even had time to process it.
“I’m sorry!” He said as he took his trembling hands back, looking around as if he were trying to find a way out of there. Obviously he couldn’t find one, so just tried to make himself as small as possible, trying to shrink himself away in the tiny back corner of the cabinet. He had tears in his eyes and looked more than terrified, almost like he might hyperventilate and pass out. But before he could, Eddie grabbed his hands again and yanked him forward, placing them back on his face and holding them there as he looked into his petrified eyes and muttered, “Don’t be.”
Eddie closed the minuscule distance between them this time, his heart pounding and his mind racing as he kept his lips pressed to Billy’s. His hands were still shaking, but he wasn’t trying to move them away anymore, so Eddie let them go, and used his own hands to swipe away the tears now falling from Billy’s eyes. He found it was useless, though, as they just kept coming, and as the kiss ended again, he stopped trying. Instead, he held Billy’s hands as they both scrunched their eyes shut, staying close and clinging to each other like a lifeline.
“I’m so fucking scared,” Billy whispered as he cried.
“I know,” Eddie said back, “I am, too. But it’ll all be over soon.”
And he was right. He still tried to comfort Billy as he cried, even as the storm moved on, the two of them staying in the cabinet as they waited for the all clear on the weather report. Finally, the weatherman came on the radio and said that the storm was breaking up and losing power, having moved on to the woods that flanked the other side of the town and keeping on a steady path up North. He said it would probably die completely before it made it back to Hawkins if it did decide to turn around, and kept mostly to the outskirts of the town, so there should be minimal damage other than some uprooted trees.
“Minimal damage, he said,” Eddie said, rolling his eyes as they finally felt it was safe to move outside of the cabinet. Billy sprang up faster than Eddie had ever seen him move and leaned against it as he tried to get himself under control. He really hated small spaces. “Like, look at this place! I’m surprised the roof is still attached, Jesus!”
Billy looked up and around the store when he finally felt okay enough, and Eddie was right, it was quite the sight. All of the windows had been busted in and there was glass everywhere. The shelves had been knocked over and it created a domino effect, meaning that the floor was covered in both the actual shelves and the things previously being displayed on them. Some of them had even fallen into the doors of the cooler cases, and broke that glass, too. There was food on the floor and broken bottles that created a sticky mess of soda, and the slushy machine had been tipped over, too, creating a swamp of sweet, sticky sludge near the back storage room. Thank God that room didn’t have any windows, because even though the door had collapsed in on itself, there was probably very little damage back there beyond the shelves near the opening. But for the most part, the entire place was a wreck, and Eddie sighed as he moved over to the register and began to fiddle with the buttons. It had fallen from the counter, but at least it was only a little dented and it had stayed closed, so the cash didn't have the opportunity to fly around everywhere.
“I can stay and help you clean up, if you want,” Billy offered, kicking at something on the floor, “Sort of a way to say sorry for unloading all that shit on you and then crying like a baby afterwards.”
“Nah, it’s cool. I’m just gonna go put this in the safe and leave it. My manager can deal with it tomorrow,” Eddie said, getting the drawer out of the register and heading back towards the office, motioning for Billy to follow. “And you don’t have to apologize. I unloaded on you, too, and it was fuckin’ terrifying being caught up in that, I was close to breaking down, too. Besides, you already made it up to me.”
“How?” Billy asked, watching as Eddie closed the safe and stood up to face him.
“You finally kissed me. I’ve been wanting to do that since, like, October, dude. And now, since I’m not fucking dealing with all that shit out there, I’m gonna invite you back to my hopefully not destroyed place to do it some more,” he said, grinning as he slipped his hands in his back pockets and shrugged. “If you’re up for it, that is.”
“I thought you’d never ask, Munson,” Billy smiled back as he followed him out the backdoor to the garage where their cars were, thankfully both still completely intact.
“Oh, and by the way, even though you’re dry now, you still look like a kitten,” Eddie said, his grin only widening as Billy rolled his eyes.

Chapter V | Zeus Summary: Every summer you work on your father’s strawberry farm with your three sisters. It’s a way to take a break from the big city but summers in the midwest are hot and they linger. This year, your father’s old and mysterious friend shows up to stay on your land for a reason yet to be determined. Din Djarin seems dangerous, but kind enough, and the two of you quickly become…well, let’s fact it…smitten. Rating: (+18) for future and explict sexual content. Warnings: Thunderstorms and mud, I suppose. Some cattle. Not sure if people are terrified of grass dogs but...
It began to rain as Din exited the farm. Your father had thrown a pair of ancient keys his way and said, "Take Bessie. She could use the fresh air." And, of course, 'Ole Bess - a 1950's Ford, rusted with paint probably mixed with lead - proved loyal even as mud caked her tires.
You lounge in the passenger's seat, feet propped against the dashboard, and chewing Bazooka Bubblegum with a quiet pop. You stare at your shoes with a grimace as Din rounds a corner. You shouldn't have worn your white Keds today. They were your favorite - stitched with red thread to look like baseballs - but you hadn't known it would storm today. In the meteorologist's defense, it came on quite suddenly (as most midwest storms do). The clouds rolled in with a darkness reserved for tornado and other annoying natural disasters. You didn't feel like dealing with a twister today, especially given the fact that you hadn't cleaned the shelter since last May; there were definitely wolf spiders down there.
The rattling heater - as though it's groaning - blows faintly against you. The temperature had dropped a few degrees, though that wasn't uncommon during summer thunderstorms. Din was clenching the wheels - white knuckles and all - as you lean to turn off the mumble of the ancient radio. You'd originally tuned its dial to check the weather, but nothing exciting had come up since. Besides, you enjoyed listening to the tapping of rain upon the hood of a car. These were the little pleasures of home - ones you especially missed in New York where the air is gritty with pollution and the rain almost acidic.
"Guess we can't go to the market today," you sigh, twiddling your fingers and checking for dirt under your nails.
Din passes one of the many farms scattered across the heartland. The grass was like emerald from the rain - a sea of green that danced gracefully in the wind. You turn your gaze to the distant cattle munching their lunch and all sorrows are forgotten. You smile at the cows as their fuzzy ears whip away flies as a reflex. Jersey cows, if you recall correctly. They'd always been your favorite but your father knew how costly livestock is. Despite how often you complained growing up, your tantrums had never been satisfied. Your dad settled on a dog he'd gotten at the pound. Chief was his name - an old bloodhound with floppy ears and a tremendous amount of drool.
"That's too bad," Din replies lowly and breaking apart your scattered thoughts; you were miles away. "I was curious to see what they had."
As the cows pass from view, the frown returns. You purse your lips and debate on what to say - anything to sound mysterious or alluring - but you fall short as usual. The rain pattering against the roof is pleasing enough, but nowhere near distracting enough to calm your nerves.
Din Djarin was too intimidating. He was kind, of course, and his personality was warm. He paid close attention to your incessant rambling and didn't seem to mind the way you laughed too loudly at people's jokes. In a perfect world, you wonder if Din might even be attracted to this cute likeness of yours. But this wasn't a perfect world. This was the midwest in the early summer and the rain was only beginning.
There is no backseat in Bessie - she's a two person pickup suited for hard work and nothing more. The space between the two of you is fairly limited but you make sure to keep your distance. The two of you exchange conversation about the vendors and bountiful produce that you could've purchased had it not been for the storm. He asked questions about your studies in botany (your major) and who you'd like to work for in the future (you hadn't decided). When you inquired about his line of work, he changed the subject as quickly as possible and focused on your sisters. He dances clumsily around the subject of your mother; he knows of her passing, he had said, and then left it at that out of respect.
Needless to say, it had been a good trip. It became easier to spend time with him in such close proximity - alone, at that - after crossing the railroad tracks.
The convenience store in town is run by an elderly husband and wife who always treat their customers with a hospitality you never experience in New York. The shop is warm, snug, and smelled like the saltwater taffy which lined the east wall. Din had grabbed some disposable razors while you stocked up on junk food for movie night with your sisters. Three bags of hot fries, a box of Swiss Cake Rolls, and a liter of Coke later, you feel satisfied (and a little guilty) enough to check out.
Joanne - conch white hair and all - checks Din out with a constant smile like she would with any regular. After cheerfully thanking him for his business, she sends the two of you on your way.
Outside, the awning above the store has collecting a copious amount of water. The rain was getting heavier now, thunder growling in the distance like the gods were waring in the heavens. But Din looks up at the sky with a small grin as though he were welcoming back an old friend. You can't help but admire the slope of his nose and the relief he exuded when his shoulders loosened. He seems to be at peace, which in turn, causes the anxiety in your chest to soften.
You nudge him on the arm. "You like the rain, huh?"
Din has to tilt his chin downwards to reply. He height difference between the two of you is considerable. "I've been staying in Arizona for the past year." He inhales the freshness of the air, eyes closing in rapture. "It's been awhile since I've seen rain."
This makes you smile. You admire a man who enjoys the simple things in life, even if that simplicity was all too common here. You're reminded that Din had grown up in the midwest; he knew how much of a blessing rain could be. How it watered the crops, how it cleaned the air of toxins...hell, muddy puddles even entertained children enough for mother's to have breaks.
But while mud was fine and dandy for kids, you'd also worn the wrong shoes for weather like this. You sigh, staring at the various potholes filled with grimy water, and mourn the pearl white canvas of your Keds.
Din turns his attention from the clouds above to you once again. "What is it?"
You feel silly for complaining but you couldn't afford new clothes very often, even if those clothes came from Goodwill. They'd been priced at siz dollars which had been a lot for a thrift store anyway. And by the state of the undersides, you were also lucky enough to find that they hadn't ever been worn. Keds like this weren't made anymore. They were, in all honestly, one of your favorite possessions.
"Didn't think my shoes through..." you stare at your feet and then at the puddle again.
And idea strikes you like the lightning above the clouds. It was probably stupid a little dramatic. Who knew how many rusted pieces of metal lay upon the road? But you weren't about to ruin these shoes. Not in the slightest.
You kneel and begin to unlace the shoestrings. They quickly become undone before you wiggle your toes, heel edging off the sidewalk.
Din shakes his head and shifts the bags in his grasp. "Please be careful," he all but groans.
You smile sweetly at him, flattered by his concern. "The road isn't busy."
Din watches with caution as you glance both ways before crossing the street. It takes only a few seconds, all sign of traffic cleared, before you start a brisk walk. The pavement is rough against your feet and you shriek pathetically when something slimy squelches between your toes. Mud, of course.
You make it in one piece and Din is quick to open the door for you. "I could've brought the truck around," he says, stepping over a pothole that had accumulated with water, some gasoline mixing with it to create a filmy residue.
The soles of your feet are coated in a thin layer of clay now, dirtied from the damp asphalt. You slide in the passenger seat, dress soaked, and wetting the cracked leather. You make a point to dust off the arch of your foot and then shiver as Din starts the truck.
As he pulls into the intersection, Din attempts to resist the urge to smile. He seems amused by your wild appearance which made sense. Your hair was frizzed from the slight humidity thickening the air and it probably looked ridiculous. He can't help but release a humored chuckle after denying himself for a moment.
You laugh too.
|||
Din was also soaked to the bone but he didn't look anywhere near as beautiful as you.
It took everything in his mortal strength to stop from peeking at your breasts and crashing 'Ole Bess. Your sundress wasn't white but it was pale enough to tease that the color of your bra was baby pink. He really did try to avoid doing that. Really.
But then you roll down the window (literally, as there were no parts of Bessie that were automatic) and sit upon your knees. You poke your head out into the sopping air like a dog does when going for a drive. Your dress has lifted just slightly, the cotton and lace of your panties teasing him like some sort of siren song materialized. It's enough to cause him to choke, but he manages to seem complacent enough to still be considered a gentleman.
He wants so badly to reach out and touch you. Maybe it was the rain - after all, they say summer storms tend to bring out a more feral instinct. Din wasn't sure why they did. Maybe it was because you smelled better - like the rain was complimenting your natural scent. He wishes he could caress the soft skin of your upper thighs, could pull you by the arm into his side and kiss you with one hand on the wheel.
Gods. This was the most trialing and abusive quest of self control.
You pop back into place, cheeks blushed with a petal pink hue. Your eyes were bright and wide - the color of your irises had been enhanced by the atmosphere. It just makes him all the more frustrated. And just when he thinks he might have a hold on this - on the temptation of pulling the car to the side of the road and kissing your breathless - you break the silence.
"Have you ever swam in the rain?" you ask him, a little shyly.
Oh. This was a request.
Din freezes, blacking out a bit, and then comes to when he remembers he's in control of a two ton vehicle. He bobs his head up and down, wordless and throat dry with nervosity; it burned like hellfire. If you couldn't understand his energy you must've been blind. He shouldn't say what he's about to allow to stumble out of his mouth. You were his friend's daughter - the youngest, no less.
But you wait for him to answer, looking a little embarrassed. He blows out a heady breath and is a little jaded by reality.
Still. He answers.
And that's how he found himself striding next to you on the way to the sacred pond. Eventually, you take his hand - which fit into his as though you were foreordained - and increase your speed with raring eagerness. The two of you jump over twigs and fallen, rotting logs bedraggled from the storm. You giggle when the thunder shouts from overhead, but Din was certain you knew when danger was near. He'd teased you about impaling yourself on another thorn, but you manage to exit the undergrowth unscathed.
You spread the lush branches of the willows so that he can enter. He feels like a vampire that needs permission to be welcomed into a home - like he was some sort of devil and you were some sort of christened virgin he was about to ruin by his mere presence. But then he's faced with the glorious, rippling pond concealed from the dangers of the outer world. Trees of various species shelter the perimeter, bending lowly by the weight of their own overgrowth. Dangling from an ancient oak is an unstable swing held together by a simple boat rope.
Din is speechless to say the very least. He expected the pond to be pretty but not so aesthetical in the way it proved. It was comparable to something out of a fairy tale or paintings crafted by artists in the eighteenth century. Din has traveled to almost every surface on the globe; he's become intimate with hidden waterfalls and pure springs, but this was different.
This is where you were raised. And that makes it the most beautiful place on Earth.
You pay no attention to his ogling, but instead begin to wade into the shallow end - dress and all. Din realizes with a start that he's about to see you completely drenched and he's expected to...watch? Like some sort of creep?
He wishes he could say it was surprising when you wave to him. "Come on!" you coax. You bend your knees and walk like a crab once you're waist deep.
Din shrugs, hands collapsing at his sides for dramatics in attempt to look relaxed. He's not. "I don't think wet jeans are..."
He could swim just fine in jeans. He's done it dozens of times on dangerous missions under the surface of angry, oceanic waters. If he were honest, he was just looking for a way out of this spellbinding nightmare. He wanted to join you; he wanted to coast beside you with relieved muscles and rested eyes. But he had a feeling he'd be anything but still so close to your submerged body.
You scoff. "Oh, please. Just take them off!"
Din raises an eyebrow. "What?"
You resist the urge to giggle - he can see it in your face even from this distance. "It's not like I've never seen a man in boxers before.
For some reason this sparks a jealousy within him and it feels like toxins eating away at the butterflies. He raises his chin, sighs in defeat, and then unzips his pants with a shake of his head. When he's slipped them down to his ankles, he can't help but gauge your reaction which is...somewhat flushed and...coy?
Suddenly, he's never been so nervous to be exposed in front of a woman. He was, quite literally, about to tread in dangerous waters.
Against his better judgement (you had a habit of scaring off the angel on his shoulder), he steps into the water but keeps a considerable distance from you. Din collapses gently beneath the surface, focusing on the music the rain droplets make along the face of the water. It's cathartic. When he rises, he's shocked to see you've closed the space between the two of you. He almost chokes because of it.
"This was one of my favorite things to do growing up," you confide, stepping next to him and staring at the sky. More thunder growls, but there is still no sign of lightning. "To come out here and swim in the rain all by myself...it's wonderful."
Din can't help but stare as you reveal more mysteries. He wouldn't ever get tired of it - you deserved to be listened to.
He nods in agreement, also watching the clouds roll by, though they accumulate with every passing moment.
He notices that your breath trembles. "Thank you again...for last night," you say, scooting closer.
Magnetism. And just like the Theory of Relativity, it causes him to move closer as well; to collapse like a dying star under the weight of your eyes. Your skin glows from the freshwater, droplets of the purest rain dotting your cheeks and the bridge of your nose. You are the event horizon.
And now he was trembling too.
"Of course," he breathes nervously.
There is a desperate sparkle in your eyes - a beg, a plea. And he couldn't ignore that. Not when he'd been denying it himself.
Fuck it.
He takes your hand from beneath the blackened waters - callousness against the smoothest of skin he's ever felt - and presses you against him. Your lips barely glide above his and he shudders, feeling every intake of your breath, every imperfection in your lungs. The intimacy is unreal. It's almost too much.
He says your name quietly - it's barely audible - as he tilts his forehead against yours. He won't commit to a kiss until you consent. He wanted that. He wanted you to want him back.
"Mister Djarin," you smile full-bodied, lids still fluttering. You're leaning in.
Now. Now is the time.
Except...it isn't.
Apparently the gods have other plans. Lightning crackles across the firmament like a live wire had ruptured from its own casing. Din quickly pulls away to perceive the danger and how far away the electricity had shook the Earth. He wasn't taking any chances to put you in harm's way; even if that meant deferring - what would've probably been - a spiritual experience.
You've already seen the threat and you've begun to swim to shore.

Chapter Five
Emma folded the last of her shirts in half, then rolled it expertly, lining it up with the others in her suitcase. All those years of living on the road had made her an expert packer. She shut the case, zipped it up, and hoisted it off the motel bed. Four days in this rundown place was four days too many, but Emma knew it could have been worse. This far off the beaten path, the glass for the windshield could have taken weeks to arrive.
Emma could have gotten Ruby to drive her to the airport, maybe even scrounged up an Uber, but every time she thought about it, Smee got excited about something on the radar. As long as she had been away, storm chasing was still in her blood. It was a habit, almost an addiction, and she had literally run away to be free of it. Now that she was back among her old crew, it was sucking her in again. And even if she hadn’t been fascinated with the data rolling in, she couldn’t tear any of her friends away from their passion.
Even now, a tiny part of her wanted to stay to see if the newest projections developed into another storm cell. There had been nothing else to chase since that last small twister five days ago. But there was one thing in this world that pulled her more than a storm, and it was motherhood. She physically ached from being away from Henry for this long.
There was a knock at her door, and Emma opened it to see Killian standing there with a sad smile on his face. The week hadn’t been at all unpleasant or awkward between them, to her surprise. As a matter of fact, they had fallen into their same old comfortable pattern, minus the physical or romantic aspects. He had eagerly absorbed every story she could tell about Henry, and had even Skyped with him. Henry didn’t know who he was yet, of course, but Emma could tell Killian was ready and eager for fatherhood. He had forgiven her, but the hurt was still there. Emma knew now that she had made an enormous mistake, and she wasn’t sure anything could ever make it right.
Killian shuffled and shoved his hands in his pockets. “Ready?”
Emma nodded, rolling her suitcase out the door. The Oklahoma air was sticky with humidity, but she still shivered as she locked the door behind her.
“You know a motel needs to renovate when they still use keys,” she quipped, simply for lack of anything better to say.
“I’m sorry you were stuck in this dump,” Killian apologized as he rolled her bag over the curb towards his truck.
“It’s fine.”
“You sure you’ll be able to get a flight?” he asked as he slid her bag behind the driver’s seat.
“I told you. Kristoff works for Delta. He got me a buddy pass.”
“You sure do have connections in Atlanta. Elsa working at CNN, Delta . . . do you get free Chick-fil-A too? Lifetime supply of Coca Cola?”
When he got a laugh out of her, he kept on. “Season passes to the Braves? The Falcons? The Hawks?”
Emma wrinkled her nose. “The Hawks? Ew, who would want that?”
They both laughed, strained, heavy, and awkward. Killian’s brow furrowed. “No wonder you don’t want to come home.”
“Killian –“ Emma sighed.
“You know Granny’s not going to be happy that you left without seeing her.” He reached out and tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. Emma wondered if it was an automatic thing.
The moment was heavy with so many unspoken things, that she wasn’t sure what to say. In the end, she never had to. Ruby came running up at that exact moment, breathless with excitement.
“It’s happening, Killian,” she said, a bright smile on her face, “we could get DOT in the air this time, I can feel it.”
An almost manic smile filled his face, and he shook Ruby by both shoulders. “Get the camper ready, I’m right behind you!” It wasn’t until he had yanked the driver’s side door open that he remembered Emma. “I . . . Emma, it’s . . .”
Suddenly, she no longer cared about storm cells, or Dorothy II, or any of it. Henry’s face swam in her mind’s eye, and the man in front of her was the father of her child.
“There will be other storms,” she told him, crossing her arms resolutely over her chest.
“Are you serious? After fours day of obsessing over the data coming in on the radar? You’re going to pass this up?”
“I want to get home to my son!” she snapped.
He glanced from her, to the horizon, and then at DOT II ready to go in the back of his truck. Then he gave her an apologetic frown. “We’ll get DOT in the air, then I’ll take you straight to the airport, I promise.”
“Are you serious? You make it sound like you’re swinging by for coffee or something. This is a freakin’ TORNADO, Killian!”
“I KNOW!” he yelled back.
Emma ran her hand wearily across her face. “Fine, then. But I’m staying here.”
He frowned at her, a bit of conflict still evident in his eyes, but then he climbed behind the wheel and pulled quickly out of the space. Suddenly fear welled up in her that this could be the last time she ever saw him, and her feet seemed to race across the asphalt without conscious thought. He seemed to almost anticipate her actions, screeching to a stop and then reaching over to open the passenger side door.
“Get in.”
“You better keep us alive, Jones,” she told him as she slammed the door shut.
“It’s what I’m good at, love,” he replied with a wink.
Emma shook her head as he peeled out of the parking lot. He was in his element, drunk with adrenaline, but her own heart was in her throat. The coordinates Smee was feeding them sent them off the paved roads and bumping down a rutted drive that cut through high weeds. Emma pressed her hand against the roof of the truck as they bounced along.
“It’s turning east!” Smee shouted over the cell, and Killian jerked the wheel suddenly, almost sending the truck up on two wheels. They careened out onto a paved road. DOT rattled in the truck bed, and Killian swore as he glanced at the machine over his shoulder.
“KILLIAN!” Emma screamed, and Killian turned the wheel hard as he slammed on the breaks, sending the truck skidding sideways to a stop. The wind whipped Emma’s hair as she climbed through the back window of the cab to help Killian unhook DOT and get her into position. Once it was on the ground, Emma hopped out of the bed with Killian’s help, and the two of them ran across the asphalt with DOT. The funnel skated across the ground, looking as if it was approaching their position slowly. But Emma knew far too well that looks could be deceiving, and she yanked on Killian’s arm to get out of the way.
They raced for the truck, and Killian sped away, following Smee’s instructions to get them – hopefully – a safe distance from the tornado. Killian turned the truck sharply to face the oncoming storm, almost giving Emma whiplash. No wonder the thing was always breaking down.
They sat there, leaning forward to focus on DOT II sitting there in the middle of the road. It shook and rattled as the storm got closer and closer.
“Come on, come on,” Killian muttered, “take her!”
The storm sucked at the machine, and it went sliding sideways before tipping over, skattering its sensors all over the road.
“Bloody hell!” Killian shouted, and before Emma knew what he was doing, he was leaping out of the truck and running straight for the twister.
“KILLIAN!” she screamed for the second time in fifteen minutes as she dashed out into the lashing rain and wind. Hail pelted her, but she didn’t care as she ran as fast as she possibly could. She knew she wasn’t strong enough to physically hold him back, but she sure as hell wasn’t going to stand by while he ran into a tornado like a complete idiot. So she did the only thing she could think to do; she tackled him.
Thankfully, she hit him sideways, sending him colliding with the dirt on the side of the road rather than the slamming him into the surface of the highway. Emma grunted, pushing her hair out of her face to look down at Killian. He had his eyes closed, his face twisted into a grimace. She looked up and let out a long, relieved breath when she saw the funnel dissipate, seeming to fold itself back up into the thick clouds overhead.
“Have you lost your bloody mind!” Killian yelled as he shoved her off.
Emma rolled onto her rear, her hands colliding with the ground as she caught herself. Killian was already sprinting for the equipment, frantically righting DOT and checking the machinery. Emma felt rage rise up white and hot inside until she could practically see stars. She scrambled to her feet and took off after him. She scooped up sensors as she ran, and when she got near enough, she starting throwing them at Killian as hard as she could.
“You have gone insane!” he screamed at her as he ducked from the onslaught. “You know how expensive these things are!”
“They’re not worth as much as your life!” She was hysterical now, her voice sore from screaming and tears streaming down her face. “You think I’m gonna sit there and watch you get sucked into a storm?”
He tossed a handful of sensors she had thrown at him into the machine and stalked towards her, his entire posture radiating aggression. “You know how important this is to me! To us!”
“No,” Emma shook her head, then pushed as hard as she could at his chest, “not to me. What’s important to me is you, Killian!”
“Oh really? I’m so important that you left me with no explanation, without even telling me I was about to be a father!”
“Because I didn’t want our kid to become an orphan like we did!”
She screamed the confession so loudly, it seemed to reverberate across the flat plains of Oklahoma. The ensuing silence between both of them was as heavy as the humidity, both of their chests heaving, their eyes wide in shock at her words. Emma deflated, glancing away from him and hugging herself. Where was that damn chill coming from, anyway?
“The second I knew I was pregnant, everything changed,” she continued softly. “I was scared to death; not of becoming a mother, but of our way of life. It wasn’t just us anymore.”
“Why didn’t you tell me that?”
Emma rolled her eyes. “Like that would have mattered. I knew you could never stop. I understand the addiction, the adrenaline rush. But with you, it’s more than that. This . . . “ she gestured around them, “you’re obsessed, Killian.”
He tilted his head up to the sky, both hands clenched at his sides. Emma reached out to him, taking his hands and slowly uncurling his fingers.
“It wasn’t your fault,” Emma whispered.
He opened his eyes to pin her with a tortured gaze. “Wasn’t it though? If I hadn’t hesitated, if I hadn’t wanted the dog-“
“Was my brother at fault then for my parents’ deaths?” she interrupted.
“He was just a kid.”
Emma laced their fingers together and took a step closer. “So were you.”
Killian crumbled then, dropping his head to her shoulder. She slid her hands up his back and buried her fingers in his hair as sobs wracked his body. “Liam . . .” he choked.
“I know,” she soothed, “I know.”

Tips When Relocating Bad Climate
When the climate is negative, one of the worst times that an individual can relocate is. This can be stood for by heavy rainfall, hailstorm, and also definitely in snow. It could be also worse than that, such as when hurricane warnings are beginning. If you remain in a coastal location, where typhoons prevail, you would absolutely not wish to relocate throughout this time. There are occurrences where relocating throughout negative climate is the only option that you have. You may have a target date where you need to move quickly. Here is a fast introduction of exactly how you can securely move throughout bad weather.
The Top Reasons That Individuals Relocate When The Climate Misbehaves
If the climate misbehaves, and you need to relocate, it's likely for one of the adhering to three reasons. Of all, you may have a due date that is determined by paperwork. Other individuals may be moving in as well as you need to move out. The 2nd reason is that you work turning up. You need to be in an additional city by a defined time. Without proceeding that day you would certainly not have the ability to prepare yourself for your brand-new placement at this various place. The third factor that you may wish to relocate during negative climate is that it unexpectedly happens. There may have been no warning for how serious the rainfall or snow becomes. If you have actually currently spent for moving companies, or if you are going on your own, you may just try to do it just to get it done.

When It's Raining Hard, how To Relocate
If it is raining considerably outside, as well as you are choosing to relocate, you can do so if you take the complying with preventative measures. By relocating in between a climate system, you might be able to bypass a considerable downpour.
What If It Is Snowing When You Determine To Relocate?
Relocating while it is snowing is not the best decision. It depends on the seriousness of the tornado itself. Sometimes, it is a light cleaning to ensure that the snow that falls to the roadway will subsequently thaw. If it is less than 1 inch on the ground, and also you have four-wheel-drive, then that will not be a trouble. If the snow is very hefty, with extremely reduced visibility, you need to definitely consider altering your plans. If you are currently at a lower altitude and also you are moving up higher, this is especially real. On the other hand, if it is snowing where you are, and you are relocating a thousand feet down in altitude, you could intend to try your step regardless.
What About Extreme Warmth Or Cold?
These are not technically climate conditions per se, they do represent some difficult environmental troubles. For example, if it is mosting likely to be very hot, as well as you will certainly be helping a number of hours to load whatever up, there is the opportunity that somebody can establish each stroke. You have to worry about the condition of the roads if it is very chilly. You might hit what is called black ice, ice that essentially looks black on the asphalt as well as will create you to slide and slip. If it is very cool, as well as you do not have chains or four-wheel-drive on your lorry, after that staying at home would be the safest alternative.

How To Function Around Bad Climate When Relocating
One means to bypass negative weather condition coming in is to schedule your move in increments. You could relocate a tiny quantity of merchandise one day, wait a day up until the storm passes, as well as then start to move once again.
Moving Throughout Hurricanes Or Tornadoes
In both of these circumstances, it is never ever advised for any individual to move. During a hurricane, gale force winds can get to more than 100 mph. If that occurs, and also you are driving a truck that is loaded with your goods, it can tip over. There is also the opportunity that branches on overhead trees can break as well as cause damages or injuries. At the very least, the roads could be flooded, or you can have poor exposure, causing an undesirable event. You need to never take a trip if there is a twister caution. Due to the fact that you never ever recognize where it will certainly be, this is. They can fall to the ground within mins, as well as if it does so in proximity to you, this can come to be lethal. For that reason, if there are typhoon cautions or notifies for oncoming tornadoes, certainly stay within.
These are just a few pointers on exactly how you can deal with bad weather if you are relocating. They are always adaptable in regard to poor climate. Safety is always going to be your main problem which is why you should avoid moving in negative weather condition.
One of the worst times that a person can relocate is when the climate is negative. If the weather is negative, and you have to move, it's most likely for one of the complying with three factors. Other people might be relocating in as well as you need to relocate out. On the other hand, if it is snowing where you are, and you are relocating a thousand feet down in altitude, you could want to try your relocation no matter.
You might move a little amount of goods one day, wait a day up until the tornado passes, and also then begin to relocate again.

Amusement Park Disaster
On a seemingly clear day in 8th grade, many years ago, my brother Ryan, my mom, and I visited Cedar Point, a famous amusement park in northern Ohio, with my choir class. The day started out like a relatively normal school trip, we arrived at the school bright and early, boarded the bus, and departed on the endless trek to Sandusky, Ohio. After a month of Sundays, we arrived; the painstaking bus ride was over. For most of the day, the sky was clear, and the sun was as hot as fire. We enjoyed the park and the available, accessible rides. The evening eventually rolled around, and mysterious dark clouds could be seen for days (it seemed) over the vast expanse of Lake Erie with howling winds. Minutes later, a frightening twister spiraled out of the sky over the lake. To prevent getting a one-way ticket out to sea we were prepared to get in the nearby storm drain, in the event the tornado started closing in on us. The tornado, which appeared to go on for 5 hours, likely minutes in reality, eventually disappeared into the darkness, followed by torrential downpours.
We decided to go into a neighboring Johnny Rockets, with one small table to spare, to take cover. A waitress asked us to leave because, in her eyes, our wheelchairs were obviously an eyesore; she complained we were impeding the flow of the restaurant. We left the restaurant in the torrential rain and hellacious lightning to take the trek to guest services, who kindly allowed us to take cover in their building until it was time to board the bus. After hours of listening to the buckets of rain hitting the metal building, it was finally time to leave. On the way to the bus, the parking lot looked somewhat flooded by a few inches, but we cautiously carried on. As we were approaching the bus, my wheelchair decided to malfunction, as a result of the electronics getting flooded, causing it to tilt back on its own, quickly, almost drowning me. At this point, I realized the flooding was likely closer to one foot. My choir teacher was walking behind me and saw the issue unfolding, jumped into action, and picked me up out of my chair. My mom and another choir teacher, who were walking in front with Ryan, ran back to help, and I got in my spare manual wheelchair. My mom was able to tilt my chair back up so I could get back in it and board the bus. Once I boarded the bus, I was on my last leg (wheel) after the eventful day, and fell asleep on the ride back home. A seemingly second later, we arrived at the school, departed the bus. and drove home. Life lesson: Never drive through a parking lot that looks “somewhat” flooded! Following the trip, it appeared my wheelchair, which has since been decommissioned, was filled with mud.
Elvis has left the building!

The Perfect Storm Chapter 1 (Jensen x Reader)
Tumblr media
Title: The Perfect Storm Chapter 1-She’s Here
Pairings: Jensen x Reader; Jensen x Danneel
Summary: Jensen just wanted his ex wife to sign the papers so he could marry Danneel. He never expected to be dragged back into the life of a storm chaser. But once a storm chaser, always a storm chaser. Based on the movie Twister (RIP Bill Paxton)
A/N: This story is dedicated to the beautiful, talented, amazing, all over fantastic @petrovadixon! The lyrics in this chapter are “Give it Away” by George Strait. I hope to be able to get this posted to AO3 soon, if it will work with me. Anyway, here it is. Feedback is welcome!
Edited because I didn’t realize (y/n) was changing to my name
****
Just give it away There ain't nothing in this house worth fightin' over Oh, we're both tired of fightin' anyway Just give it away
Danneel reached over and turned down the radio as Jensen tapped his hand on the steering wheel. It felt weird not wearing his wedding band after so long, but that chapter of his life was coming to an end. But when Danneel turned down the radio, he looked over at her. Her red hair was blowing in the wind from the open window and she was wearing a pair of vintage aviators, so he couldn’t see her eyes, but he knew that look was there.
“What gives?” He asked. “That was George Strait.”
“Don’t you think that song is a little inappropriate?” She asked, looking out over the cornfields of Kansas. Jensen raised an eyebrow.
“Inappropriate?” He asked. “It’s just about a guy going through a…oh…”
“Yeah.” Danneel said with a sigh. Her feet were up on the dash as she relaxed back into her seat, loving that Jensen was doing all the driving. It was too nice of a day to use the AC all the time. Storms were moving in anyway, so she knew that the ride back would be windows up, AC going.
“So…she will be there?” Danneel asked. “I don’t want us making this whole trip for nothing.”
“Yeah, she’ll be there.” Jensen said, checking out the clouds as he drove. “They’ll all be there. They wouldn’t miss this perfect opportunity.” Danneel reached over and rested her hand on his thigh.
“You’re nervous about this whole thing, aren’t you?” She smiled softly at Jensen.
“Do I look nervous?” Jensen asked. Of course, he was nervous. It had been over a year since he had last seen her and he wasn’t sure how he was going to handle it. He never got this nervous, even when he was standing on a sound stage somewhere reading news or weather off a teleprompter.
“Well, a little.” She said, giggling some. “But it looks good on you.” He smiled some.
“I’m just glad that it’ll be over soon.” He sighed some.
“And she did sign the papers, right?” Danneel asked. They had been struggling on and off with finding time to talk to her and get everything in order. She was always travelling for her work, and if she was in one place, it wasn’t in place for long. Luckily for Jensen, he knew she had someplace that she visited all the time where he knew she would get the notice of the attempt to divorce.
“The last time I talked to her, she said she did.” He told Danneel. “We just have to meet up with her and get them.” He looked around as Kansas passed by. It had been so long since he left their home in Lawrence for Los Angeles. But it seemed like even longer since he left Texas for Kansas. “This place brings back memories.”
“It does?” She asked, looking around. “But there’s nothing here.”
“I know.” He sighed softly. “Isn’t it beautiful?” He glanced over at her. “But not as beautiful as you.” She smiled and pulled her feet down off the dash so she could lean over and kiss him on the cheek with a loud smooch. She looked back out the windshield.
“Is that them up there?” Danneel asked, pointing to a group of people off in a little clearing right up by a farm. Jensen smiled some.
“Yep, that’s them.” He said. He looked up at a van to see her standing there in a white tank top with the album cover of Mötley Crüe’s “Girls, Girls, Girls” on it. Her lucky tank top. He pulled the truck off into the clearing, not ready to get out yet. He could see the old team running around, fixing equipment. Misha was yelling at someone, which wasn’t unusual.
“Don’t fold the maps.” Misha told Jake as he fished a water bottle out of their cooler in the back seat of their truck they were using.
“I didn’t.” He groaned, hearing Jared’s music playing through the speakers on his bus again. He got it working after hail destroyed it in Oklahoma.
“Well, according to this, there is a valley right through Wichita.” Misha sighed. “Always roll the maps.”
“Aye, aye captain.” Jake said, saluting Misha. After hearing Misha yelling at the poor kid, Jensen finally found his calm place and opened the driver’s door as Danneel opened hers. They climbed out and Jensen smiled over at the two.
“Jenny?” Misha said, earning a thumbs up from Jensen. “Well hot damn! Jake, Jensen’s back!”
“I’m not back.” Jensen said, shaking his head. “Where’s (y/n)?”
“The queen’s busy fixing the satellite.” Jake said. “Her and Jeff have been working on it all night. Of course, he was more worried about being able to hear the perfect soundtrack over the roars of a twister.”
“Yeah, that’s Jared for you.” Jensen sighed. Jared looked out the windshield of his bus then, his eyes widening as he jumped off. HE ran over to Jensen before Misha and Jake could go to him.
“The Extreme!” Jared called out, barreling over and picking up his friend in a crushing bear hug.
“Jesus Jared, don’t start that again.” Jensen gasped. “Put me down Sasquatch.” Jared set Jensen down on his feet, but he still had a big grin on his face. Danneel slowly came around the truck, a little weary of the moose man in front of her. “Guys, I want to introduce you to Danneel. Danni, this is Misha, Jake, and Jay. Jared. The guys.”
“Nice to meet you.” Danneel said. Jared laughed and pulled her in for a hug. He was definatly a hugger. Jensen forgot to warn her of that little fact.
“Is she busy?” Jensen asked Misha. “Like is she almost done?”
“I don’t know man. You know her better than we do.” Misha told him. Jensen shook his head.
“I don’t know about that one.” He sighed. “Danni, sweetie, why don’t you hang out here with the guys. I’m going to go talk to her.”
“Okay honey.” Danneel said, a little out of breath after the Padalecki hug.
“Hey Jay, why don’t you try to explain to her why you are the way you are? It’ll kill some time.” He laughed. Jared did a weird little dance, holding Danneel’s hand as he did, making her look up at Jensen with a scared expression. Jensen gave her a small smile before heading over to the van where Jeff was currently holding up wires while (y/n) poked and prodded at the Doppler mounted on top.
As Jensen made his way over to (y/n) on the longest walk ever, he passed people he thought he would never see again. Jim, Rob, Richie just to name a few. He was honestly surprised they all clung together after the final straw between him and (y/n), but he couldn’t really blame them. There wasn’t really a big demand for professional storm chasers. And many of them wouldn’t survive a week working at the Weather Service. Jensen sighed as he finally arrived at the van. Jeff looked up at him and wondered how fast he could get out of here before (y/n) noticed.
“Hey (y/n).” Jensen said. She cringed a little but looked around the Doppler and smiled.
“Hey Jen.” She said, being very pleasant. “I’m glad you found us. I wasn’t exactly sure where we would end up on this road.”
“How are you?” Jensen asked, trying so hard to be nice. Actually, it wasn’t that hard. The hard thing was joining (y/n) up on top of the van. Like old times.
“Great.” She looked up at the darkening sky. “Looking like we’re going to have a fun afternoon.” Felicia came over to stand by Jeff as Jensen and (y/n) talked to each other for a second. (y/n) climbed down off the van.
“So, about the papers…” Jensen started to say when Colin, a kid would could easily pass as Jared’s brother, called her over to check out the camera he had dropped in the mud a couple tornadoes ago. He watched her handle it with all the grace he had ever seen. Too bad she couldn’t handle everything that way. She made her way back over to Felicia and Jeff, checking the last of the monitors and signals.
“You want the papers?” She asked. Jeff and Felicia looked at each other before taking a step back and looking down at some readouts, trying to distance themselves from what was going on in front of them. “They’re signed and ready to go.”
“Good.” Jensen sighed. “Where are they?”
“In the truck.” She told him, not even looking up. He looked around, seeing that god awful yellow Jeep pickup sitting not too far from them.
“Can you get them?” He asked.
“What’s with the urgency? You’d think you were getting married…” She froze then, knowing the answer but not wanting to hear it.
“I am.” He explained. “Her name is Danneel Harris. We met out in LA.” (Y/n) nodded some and left where she was standing, heading for her truck.
“Went from me to Danneel. You don’t browse around much, do you?” She joked, making Jensen roll his eyes.
“You know the answer to that.” He said. She opened the door to the truck and leaned in, opening the glove box and pulling out the envelope.
“Here you go.” She said. He took them and started to examine them, making sure nothing was missed. (Y/n) realized then that she was still wearing that ring. She quickly pulled it off and tossed it into the truck so he couldn’t see it.
“You missed a page.” Jensen said as she started to walk away. She sighed and turned around. “Just two more signatures. That’s all I need and we’ll be out of your hair.”
“Sure you will Jen.” She sighed softly, walking over and grabbing a pen out of her truck. “Wait, she’s here?”
“Yes she is. I left her with Jay.” Jensen explained. (Y/n) laughed.
“You left her with Jay? What’s the matter with you?” She headed over to where Jared and Danneel were, much to Jensen’s protests.
 “What are you doing?”
“I wanna meet her.” (Y/n) said, walking away. Jensen growled out and grabbed the papers. They made it over to Danneel and Jared as Jared was explaining suck zones to her, making her giggle some.
“Hey there. You must be Danneel.” (Y/n) said, walking over and shaking her hand. “I’m (y/n) (y/l/n).” She took your hand and shook it. “Jenny was just telling me the happy news.”
 “Jenny? Happy news?” She asked.
“About us.” Jensen sighed. Danneel nodded, laughing a little as she thought about Jensen’s nickname.
“You’re getting hitched? That’s awesome man.” Jared laughed. Jensen looked down at him.
“We wanted to get it done before Jensen’s new job.” Danneel said.
“Oh, I almost forgot. TV weather person. She almost sneered.
“Hey. Don’t mock it.” Jensen sighed.
“I’m not mocking anything.” She said as she walked away. Danneel answered her phone then as Jensen followed, making a motion with her hand to tell him to get the papers. Jensen followed (y/n) as she examined his cherry red ride. “New truck. New job. New girl. You’re a whole new Ackles.”
“I know how awkward this is…”
“I thought you would’ve been coming out here alone.” She said, crossing her arms over her chest. Jense laughed some.
“I didn’t think I’d be coming out here at all.” He said. “You promised to have them to us by January. It’s July.”
“Sorry. I’ve been busy.” (Y/n) explained to him.
“With what?” Jensen asked. “What is so important that you couldn’t take five minutes to drop these back off at the Wakita post office?”
“Dorthy.” She said softly. Jensen raised an eyebrow.
“Dorthy? What about her?” He asked. (Y/n) smiled some.
“She’s here.” She told him, noticing how she was drawing him back in. His eyes widened.
 “Show me.”
