i've distanced myself from the elden ring fandom, i used to get so fed up when i saw the most brain-dead of takes but I'm numb to them now. "Ranni is the most evil demigod and marika and messmer did nothing wrong!!" Whatever you say love :)

Pffffft like I said, I start to lean towards disapproving of using the term "braindead" regarding Soulsborne discussions and disco horses completely because at this rate it feels like a staple for more toxic and obnoxious kind of fans! As for what you've mentioned though, these ARE pretty shallow! I was surprised to see how many people erase Rykard failed to see machiavellian planning and nuance of Ranni's character, and how she was caught in a situation that had NO morally right solution! Soulsborne games are FULL of "the world is so fundamentally broken and cursed that the only way to break free lays through crimes, but is the new world worth it if is built on so much blood? will you perish with dignity, or struggle and lose even yourself? isn't the new order just a different type of poison?" .......and then I'd remember for many Elden Ring was the first Soulsborne game and they haven't smoked Miyazaki's philosophy yet. 🌛 Messmer and Marika are less transcendental and cosmic though, but it is the story about fascism futility and horrors of being driven by revenge, and how it only endlessly breeds more of it going far beyond people who were guilty! The whole "well you see, Hornsent's very CULTURE is dangerous and could spam other crazy cults and purges so their genocide is justified for everyone's sake....." is also its own brand of headache too.. It has...... many implications, let's just say this.

I also feel flattered that apparently you check my blog despite having distanced from the fandom!! I think the best way to engage with an interest is to fish out several mutuals you really vibe with from the general fandom pool and just follow them instead of checking the general fandom regularly! Humans are happier as multiple tribes than as a large "community" and it works with fandoms too, especially if reasonable takes always get drowned out by this or that extreme!

it’s been !! a really busy year!! oh my god i didn’t realize how little i posted until i saw my tumblr wrapped T_T honestly, at some point i wondered if it’d be for the best for me to formally announce a hiatus — some parts due to university and work, and other parts due to personal conflicts that made it difficult to feel confident or proud that i was creating.

it feels kinda weird missing vinh’s birthday for the first time in a while 😅 (granted, i drew something for it but i didn’t post it bc i didnt finish/i got nervous) .

moreover, it felt weird being so distant from twst and my own tumblr? admittedly i scared myself off from doing as much as i could this year, so i have less to physically show that i’m still around and i still care just as much as i did in 2019. it’s hard to do stuff that you like when ur in the constant process of shoving ur foot in ur mouth or feeling really self-conscious, or well. sometimes it’s just hard to not feel insecure about what you want to make and what you perceive other people expect from you?

i admit that i’m still trying to rebuild my foundations so that i can feel secure and proud of myself. it’s been a really, really long road to take but i have all of 2023 and more to orient myself. i’ve been trying to get into new things and explore new ventures, and that has been… a very nerve-wracking process for someone who’s never done anything before (did you know how many emails and phonecalls i had to make to get anything done/set up just to take commissions….. i’ll tell u what, it’s definitely over 10)…

all in all, i just wanna get back on the horse _(:3 」∠)_ i’ve been a bit of a ghost, but i’m still here. i still wanna thank everyone who still pops in every now and then when i pop up every once in a while 😅 i really appreciate you guys hanging around and everything yall do, especially as a community. i don’t think i’ve ever seen a more vocal oc community before? it’s an environment that i appreciate more than anything and i don’t intend to let my gratitude go unspoken for. you guys are really sweet and supportive, and god, i can’t keep count on my fingers for the sheer quantity of amazing creators that i’ve seen here. i hope that with 2023, i get my hands on a better time management schedule so that i can properly give back into the community T_T

A post? On a B l o g?? More Common Than You Think

So, I know basically nobody follows me. It doesn't really or truly matter if you do. The Tumblr experience is curated anyway, I have like one or two mutuals who might see this just because I posted this, and that's basically it.

I just needed to ramble. Mind is racing and I need to organize my thoughts so I can get good sleep in before work tomorrow. Best way to do that is to write.

Besides, I'm an aspiring writer anyway. Wouldn't hurt to get some practice in, you know? There's no polite way to put it. I'm having a Bad Time. Looking for work, that's basically all that need be said, really.

I've sent applications in to a couple of handfuls of places nearly every day, and most of the rest I've either been at my temporary job(I need something with better hours) or I've been resting from the week.

Best practices are things like specifying your resume for each individual job, or making sure you have a contact within the company who can vouch for you. I have neither for most cases, which is a great start. I'm also doing this without a college degree to my name, so I'm even more doomed than the average guy my age. I can't do much. I'm unskilled and generally weak. Best I can tend to hope for is a minimum wage position at a register, and I'd KILL to be taken for one of those at this point! I've been passed over and ignored so much more often than I care to admit. It's frustrating, it hurts. I got my Food Handler's Permit, I created a banger of a resume out of every scrap of excuses I could make for myself that I could call experience for the past eight years, I made a LinkedIn account and have been on a constant prowl almost day in and day out.

I just... I hate my luck. Hate it. Without question, absolutely hate it. I have been having a great deal of grief conducting the search for gainful employment. Hell, not even gainful. Just steady. I just need full time hours. That's literally all I truly need. Some job and the ability to do it long and hard enough. I don't care what else is asked of me. I'll debase myself, I'll sing your praises, I'll get up on my high horse and pretend I'm the hardest worker in the room for as long as you happen to be able to smell in my direction. I can't pretend I'm not trying, but the sheer amount of failure I've been facing, the raw radio silence, it's just... I can't do this. I've been getting nearly constant spam emails because I've gone searching on terrible, horrible websites trying to find a place, a suitable position, whether on-line or off-line, squeezing at every last fruit I can grasp no matter how low it hangs, no matter how many bugs I see on it because maybe one day I can actually taste of the victory I need to continue my journey. I will clarify that I do currently have work, it's just not nearly what I need. I need the steadiness, and I lack that most of all. Having written all this... I don't know. Feel a bit better, having vomited all my words onto the screen, we'll see if I sleep any better tonight. And hey, look at that. A blog post. Not gonna tag this. It's just a rant.

Hey there! I just wanted to know your opinion of all these new people on tumblr that are making people who like posts feel bad. They’re saying that this is not instagram and that the likes do not help the original poster and they are on this high horse as if they’ve been here for so long saying things like “this wasn’t how it was supposed to be on tumblr, this is not how things were before” when they’ve been her just a couple of years (nothing against new people joining in, but you don’t have the right to tell people how to use a platform that is supposed to be a safe haven for many since its inception)… this is how it’s always been on tumblr. People like things to save them and they reblog things that catches their attention, many are acting as if the like option is new when it’s always been there and throwing shade to those that like stuff. Also it’s weird that people keep complaining when their post are liked and reblogged and get angry at people for that. I don’t know… tumblr seems like a hostile environment lately. I just got back after years (I asked for your opinion because we’ve been here for nearly the same time and we’re from the same tumblr time.) I don’t like that people are hostile lately and act as if throwing shade to other people is okay.

i'm very lucky that i haven't caught any of that hostility on my feed, i wasn't really aware that it was happening at all! i've been here 12 years now, if we're including the neaf blog, and liking things has always been an important function of tumblr. i think a huge part of the problem now is that notes are hidden away - previously, you were able to see the volume of people liking and reblogging your posts in notes on your dash and that would give you an immediate sense of response and reaction to what you were putting out there. we even used to have a function called like-spamming, where you would like a post repeatedly and the individual who posted it could see how many times you clicked like - hundreds of times, sometimes, for those who were enthusiastic enough to do it. it was often used for comedy but also just to show appreciation

now, notes are tucked away under the activity tab - and out of sight, out of mind. you have to go and check your post repeatedly to see what reaction there was to it - and that often can make you feel self conscious, checking to see if you've garnered the attention you desire instead of just having it presented in front of you

i absolutely do get why it's hugely important for artwork and artists specifically to reblog their posts because that's the only way the art is seen by more than a handful of people - it's vital to the survival of artists on this platform to reblog art you love. but everybody i know and follow on here does reblog the art they love, as well as liking it oftentimes, so i am missing a huge part of this discourse and can't really speak to it for that reason

i know i'm very lucky to have avoided that hostility because of how i've curated my feed over the years, and i'm so sorry that this has come up and caused frustration and stress for you now. but i will say, as someone who went through an enormous period of anguish and harm and was driven off a fandom-popular blog by people's cruelty way back when; tumblr can be and has been, in many of its alleyways, a hostile environment for a very long time.

my best advice is to curate a dashboard that brings you peace. it's a difficult thing to do and it takes time, but it's worth it. the peace i have on here now is everything <3

Don't start me on this this will go for paragraphs. If I restrain my ADD brain from going for 80 years, I'd say my all time as well as current favorite manga is Kuroshitsuji, my all time favorite anime is FMAB, and my most recent obsession is Hey, Your Cat Ears Are Showing. I literally have the tags #reigenposting and #narutoposting for naruto and mp100 on my main.

I ship with pretty much every show I like, being an aromantic who loves seeing others in love (I'm a bit jealous but you can't miss what you don't have so I just revel in pairing and seeing people happy).

In BSD, I love Yosano and Kouyou (passion fire lesbians!!), Shin Soukoku, OBVIOUSLY Soukoku, and on a bit less of an appreciated note, I like the idea of one sided Ryuu having a major crush on Dazai as well as Dazai and Kunikida. And then of course clearly RanPoe is god.

Favourite Character(s)?

For how much I kin him and talk about him my answer would actually not be Ranpo. I think it's Higuchi. She's just so wonderful and underappreciated, her character is so rich even with what little screen time she has. As for as characters and not people, in terms of writing? Mori, no doubt. He's a deliciously different and well written villain and it's such a breath of fresh air to see something like him.

we’re gone but we don’t know where

WHO: Santana Lopez ( @trickstersantana​ ) and Matt Rutherford, with NPCs Julio Lopez, Someone.

WHAT: Running errands in New York City, doing some sponsor/sponsee bonding? Sort of?

WHEN: Sep 22nd

WHERE: A building in a dark alley.

WARNINGS: Mention of needles/injections, stabbing, manipulation, death, murder implied?

Santana walked, or almost run, alongside Matt through the city, too happy of her fake sense of freedom. She was too used to being trapped in NYADA. "C'mon, Hoodoo guy, we are almost there." She said with a big smile. She talked with her 'sib' Oliver to know where to met with them and her fake parental figure. She should be wary, she should warn Matt even more of how awful he was. But still, she was happy to see him and talk with him again. A happiness that would end quickly, she knew it very well. "This is the place." She said pointing to a   seemly abandoned building on a dark alley. The kind of place where super hero parents die. "Alright, fair warning. My 'dad' is a fucking ass. Like, the worst, the less he know of you, the best. Oh God, thank you so much for this Matt I will always value your sacrifice, I'm sorry you always have to met the worst... the worst of my kind when you are with me." She would love to tell him she could introduce him to a nice trickster someday, but she didn't knew anyone she liked. Her 'mom' only, but she didn't want to see Santana.  "Ready?"

Matt's internal gears were turning as Santana bounded through the streets of NYC. It was really about time that he used his privilege for something other than snarking Bloodlines on the internet, he thought, just as Santana urged him on. "I'm walking, I'm walking," he said, a little distracted, but speeding up to keep up with her. The building seemed sketchy, at least at first glance, but he'd slept in worse places before. He'd just keep his hands in his pockets; one on his phone, the other on his wallet. "Alright, sure. Is this your hangout spot, or?" 

He wondered what was up with Santana's 'family,' what they'd done, but didn't ask. Some people got shitty families. Some of them were shitty enough to add scare quotes to the word. He nodded along, until she started apologizing to him. "Hey, c'mon. Tamamo--Tamamo wasn't your fault. Your 'dad' is also probably not your fault. Besides, I know one badass trickster already, the bar was too fuckin' high," he joked. "And you know, you don't represent your entire race, and all that shit." Giving a last tentative glance towards the place, he nodded. "Don't let him know too much, he's an ass. I got it. I'm ready when you are."

Santana nodded at the question, but she wasn't that sure. It might be a trap too.  She knew it wasn't her fault, completelly, at least on the Japan part, still, she felt like she was dragging Matt into danger. But she wasn't sorry enough sorry to stop it. She smiles a little at the compliment. "Lucky for them, or they would be super screwed" She joked back. When she was about to open the door, someone opened it from the inside. 

Someone who looks very shady opens the door. They are a white teen, pretty shorty, with black hair and a red hoodie. Even without meeting them before, you could sense the annoying teen energy surrounding them. "Hermanita!! You finally arrived!!" They shout in a very bad spanish pronunciation, quickly hugging Santana to her exasperation. "Hay! Who are you? Who are you? A new friend? What's your name?" They ask very fast, looking at Matt, ending the hug with Santana and going to hug the other guy if no one stopped the energetic kid.

Matt chuckled at her joke, adding something like 'whatcha gonna do about it' before the door swung open, and someone... interesting came out of the other side. He tried not to be annoyed, but Aether, he'd barely been a teenager, and sometimes he was really grateful for that, including right then. An eyebrow raised, he was selfishly glad for a moment that this kid was Santana's "something"--although probably not her "dad"-- and not his. 

Until the kid started heading towards him. Frozen in place, he let them hug him, patting them awkwardly on the back as the only vague form of reciprocation. "I'm Matt," he said when the hug was released, and he could comfortably breathe again, in his own bubble of personal space. "I'm Santana's friend. What's your name?" It was polite to ask, but now he was also very curious. Where had this kid come from?

Santana groans and complains when the kid shows they're still existing. "Oh my God, I'm no family or 'family' or yours. I'm nothing yours. Don't bother Matt you brat" She fear Matt was already saying too much information, but hoped it won't scalate. She went upstairs hoping the others will follow. She enters a room that looked like it was abandoned for years until a little kid found it to turn it into their secret operation base. She entered the living room, completelly covered with a blanket fort, lots of toys and anime figures on the floor and snacks and sweets around. She rolled her eyes when she noticed her 'dad' was sitting on the couch. Inside the blanket fort. "God fucking dammit Cabrón. Really? Your idea of safe place to meet is where the brat lives, right?" She could notice how unconfortable was to be in a room with two other tricksters,  but she know Matt was the only one there that had to suffer 3 distrust auras. 

Someone smiles and moves nerviously and happy. "Do you have a tumblr, Santana's friend? Guess my name!" They said, and fake cries with Santana's complains while she goes upstairs "You're so meaaaaan, you both use me as a messenger and... hey don't ignore me!!" They say as the walk upstairs too. 

The man in the sunglasses smiles at seeing Santana appear, getting up from the couch, but still not being able to stand up fully for the blankets. "That's how you say hi to your old 'dad'?" He says, sound fakelly offended. "If you assume the horse kid lives here." He shrugs. "But let's get to the point, I know you aren't visiting just because you miss me."

Matt stiffens up when this kid asks for his tumblr. Were they going to hack him? Spam him?  Dig up his every secret and expose them to the world?? He smiles, tight and uncomfortable, and thinks for a long second. "I'll guess your name if you guess my tumblr URL. And no checking Santana's blog for clues." He's setting himself up for failure, he can feel it. But there was no such thing as being too careful, not in this city, not this year, not anytime. 

When they go upstairs,  underneath all the alertness, something twists in his chest. Santana had once told him their pasts weren't so different, and he knows many LN experience homelessness, but the childishness of the blanket forts, of the candy and the toys makes sympathy shine through. When Santana makes that comment though, he finds himself looking around. Is there someone here? Is this a setup?? 

Matt looks to Santana for guidance on how to react to this man. Her "dad". He gives a noncommittal nod when he speaks to her, but doesn't greet him out loud. Yet. Shit. Now he's also wondering why Santana wanted to come here when she thought so badly of her "family". Maybe she found out about Brownstone. Maybe this was a way to quietly say "fuck you" for being another sponsor with blood on his hands. Or maybe she is a really good actress and she hates shadow magic more than she let on. His eyes dart back and forward between all three tricksters, and he has to push himself to settle down. What the fuck, chill, he thinks.

Someone looks defeated. What a masterful way to ruin their machinations. "Uuuhhhhhhhhh.... mattfriendofsantana dot tumblr dot com!" They try to guess while they go upstairs, and sits next to the man on the sunglasses. "I don't live here! This is my super secret operation base!!" They said with pride. 

Santana rolls her eyes. But she did miss him, sometimes she wasn't interacting with him. Everytime they met again it was full of regret. "You said things you knew things. About enchantments. So c'mon be a decent fake dad a help your fave fake daugther, you bastard." 

The man in the sunglasses points at the kid like saying. 'See?' and waves at the other man that went with Santana. "Hello, sorry my daugther was raised to forget to introduce people. You can call me Julio, who are you?" He asks, and talks a little softer to Santana, in spanish. "¿Cuánto confías en él? Y no digas que no te fias de nadie, eso ya lo se, Niebla. But yeah sure, if you are a decent fake daugther and give me the information I asked you about months ago."

Matt probably shouldn't feel as satisfied as he does to have outsmarted a child. But he does, and a smile tugs on his lips as they guess the wrong username. "Wrong. I'll tell you what letter it starts with if you tell me what letter your name starts with." Matt suggests, and even though he's probably a bit too cocky at the moment, the end of the sentence turns into a question. "Operation base for what?" he asks before he can stop himself. Do teenagers tend to have these sort of things? Is this normal? It takes him a second to brush off the confusion, but when he does, the initial suspicion lingers. Is this an ambush?? 

And Santana's asking about enchantments, and he would have thought there wasn't much left inside him to be twisted up, but there is. Aether, he hopes someone is able to help her. Brownstone was months ago, and she is still dealing with this shit?He tries to stand next to Santana and look intimidating with arms crossed, but his eyes keep darting from person to person to 'secret operation base', giving away his uneasiness. 

Matt nods at Santana's 'dad', and something about the way he spoke strikes a nerve. "Eh, politeness is fuckin' overrated. I'm Matt, it's... interesting to meet you, Julio." His attention drifts when the conversation turnsinto Spanish, once again glancing around the room. He has been here for... what? Two minutes? Two hours? And he's thoroughly confused. Thoroughly. He catches the tail end of her 'dad''s sentence, and an eyebrow rises of its own accord as he glances sideways at Santana. What the fuck was going on here?

Someone is too hooked up with this. "O!" Then pouts exageratelly "I told you is super secret! But it's for super secret meetings, like this one!" They reveal anyway. "Stop talking in spanish I want to know what you guys say!!" 

Santana was annoyed, but she throws him a notebook she was carrying in ther bag (who was there the whole time). "En una escala de 0 a 10, siendo un 0 'no le diría ni mi nombre', y 10 lo que me fio de la prediccion del tiempo, un 7. Now. What do you know?" Santana can see Matt also dislikes her 'dad' from minute one like every living on Earth. "We don't respect politeness in this fucking house." She says proud. 

The man in the sunglasses smirks. "Interesting. That's pretty generous. In the 'family' we have a saying about Santana's friends. They are either naive fools she's trying to use, or people without any morals whatsoever, which one are you?" He tries to catch the notebook in the air, but he fails, and he has to crouch to get it. "Eso es un número muy alto para ti, Niebla, te fias demasiado del hombre del tiempo." He says without opening it. "I actually don't know that much about enchantments and you suspected it, so this notebook is full of lies, right? But to not get stuck in the accusations of lying like always, let's jump to the deals. I'll have to do my research and if I get something, you tell me something. Now, what's the enchantment about. I can't help much without data, you know that."

Matt starts going through all the names with O he knows in his head. As it turns out, they're not that many. Octavius. Octavia. Octopus. Fuck. A deal's a deal, though, so he begrudgingly offers his URL initial as well. "G." What kind of super secret meetings do teenagers even have? Is this the first one to be hosted here? He also wants to know what Santana and her "dad" are saying, but he refuses to agree with this kid right now. Maybe there will be time for that later. 

Discreetly, he tries to gauge what they're saying. He hears numbers. Maybe it's a secret code. The little phrase about politeness shakes him out of it, but before he can react, Julio is talking to him. Eyes narrowed, he laughs a little, and crosses his arms over his chest. This is a test of some kind, he can tell. But he's not going to fall for it. "Bit of both. I'm a naïve dumbass with shit for a moral compass." The notebook falls straight to the ground, and he bites back a laugh, trying to not get visibly frustrated when he speaks Spanish again. Is he talking about me?? It's alright though, soon enough his eyes bounce back between the two like he's watching a ping pong match. "What do you know about Enchantments? Forcing people to do shit they don't want to do?" Matt asks, arms still crossed and keeping his gaze straight.

Someone checks their phone when they heard the first clue and opens Santana's tumblr page to find a blog she rebloged starting with G. They will scroll down until They Find Matt.

Santana is already nervous just looking at Matt and her 'dad' talk, but she knew showing she cares too much about Matt won't end well and her fake father would be ven more of a dick. She doubts before giving an answer. She crosses her arms. Ah, fuck it. "Ah, you know." She shrugs. "Self-deprecating magic bullshit. To be ashamed of myself, that I'm alone, or no one will miss me, that other people think I'm just an animal and all that super fake shit that is totally not real and I don't believe for a moment." She tries to say non challant like its her grocery list. "Alright maybe I believe that but it's magic's fault!"

The man in the sunglasses laughs at Matt's answer. "This guy is fun, Mist. I hope you aren't planning to stab him." He says way too casually. "Enchantments is manipulation for inepts who don't know how to convince people without magic." He listens to Santana, quiet for a while. "Oh, you finished? Really? That's it? God damnit Mist, you believed all those things already. What a redundant and useless spell."

Matt sighs when the kid takes out their phone. This is going to go great.

His eyes narrow at the stabbing comment. What. The. Fuck. Was that an inside joke??? Did Santana regularly stab her friends, or enough so that her "dad" asks about it. "Don't worry, I stab myself enough with needles regularly. I can handle myself." Could he though??? He's trying real hard to look completely different than how he felt, which was threatened and confused as fuck, and he doesn't know if it's working.

Focused on what Santana is saying, his guard drops for a moment. Aether, how had it been so long since Brownstone, and he had no idea this was going on? He never means to pry, to force people to talk about things they don't want to, and he's been so ridiculously focused on his own bullshit that he just didn't know the enchantment went this deep. What a fucking dick. But this isn't the place to voice that. He turns back to Santana's "dad" and crosses his arms tighter against his chest again, and ignored the pang that comes with this comment that these things weren't new. "Do you know how to help her or not?"

Santana super fake laughs and then acts super offended "Excuse me? I had never, NEVER stabbed anyone with a real knife." She might had try a lot of times, though. 'How much do you know about it, you bastard?' She was getting even more nervous and unconfortable. "Don't listen to him, Matt, he thinks he is soooo funny" She rolls her eyes, and controls herself from saying 'I would never do that to you' because it would be too much of a lie. Who knows what the future hold, right? She gets even more angry to his fake father reaction. "I guess!!! But you don't have to be a dick about it!" She answers without thinking. "Ughhhh, c'mon! You are just saying that because...because you don't know shit about getting rid of it and you just want to...aggh!!" She is too annoyed and embarrased to say a proper argument.

The man in the sunglasses keeps his confident smile on. "Is that because you take drugs or the...the sugar thing...thing" He says, snapping his fingers, like he doesn't remember the name but it's so close to get it and that would help. He groans frustrated to his bad memory. "Mist, you throw a knife to my face, don't act all hight and mighty like you are above stabbing." He says as casually as fake dad could talk to his fake daughter about something as not washing the dishes. He calmly stares at Santana while she gets progresivelly more annoyed. "I told you it's like manipulation. Just manipulate yourself back goddamnit. Where is your manipulative liar pride? You are terrible at it, but also you believe a lot of crap, so it could work."

Matt is really doing his best to not freak out about the whole 'does Santana plan to stab me' thing, and he knows he's being irrational--oh. The aura. Times three, probably. He tries to push it down, and quirks a smile at Julio. "Testosterone," he says simply. Still... there have been knives thrown before, it seems, but he'll ask her about this afterwards. Aether, this experience has been fun already. He laughs awkwardly before he clears his throat and laughs again, still falsely, but more sarcastically. "Hilarious," he comments. 

Matt knows everyone has their insecurities, but today has really been a wake-up call, and he's growing steadily more annoyed at Julio, and worried about Santana, until he offers them a solution. Manipulate yourself back? Admittedly, that seemed like the wrong approach to take about getting herself to believe she wasn't an animal, or alone. But maybe Leah could help with that. "She's a fucking great manipulative liar," he defends her, and the words come tumbling out of him before he can stop them. "Is there anything else you know?" Matt asks.

Santana shrugs, still very annoyed and angry at everything. "But you dodged it! Geez old man, get over it. You deserved it. And stop asking Matt questions!" She frows even more at the useless advice. "That's bullshit. It's like an illusion. I could make a deal everyday so you had a noisy fly flying in front of your face forever. You can try to ignore it, even if you know it's not real, but it's still there." She doesn't know how to feel about Matt's defense. "Yeah!" 

The man in the sunglasses snaps his fingers when Matt's says testosterone. "Insulin! Oh, it's not that." He says first proud and then dissapointed. The kid stops staring at their phone to complain. "Daaaad, I explain it to you!" and the man makes shushs sounds so they shut up. "Mist that's hurtful, I'm hurt. And someday, someone won't dodge your knives, and they would be no one to stop you. " Beats. "That sounded too optimist." He laughs at Matt saying Santana is any good at manipulation. "If she was, you wouldn't know. But you know because she is not subtle at all. I love you, Mist, but you are terrible." He raises his eyebrows to Santana's explanation. "You should have started by that! Then you know how to deal with illusions, I already teach you half of what I know!"

Someone whose name starts with O grins. "Found it~! Oh! You're a doppel!! I have some theories about doppels."

Matt, without thinking it over, blurts out: "or she might stop throwing knives at people." There are many ways to stab someone. In their back. Looking right at them. Having someone else throw the knife. With a hidden contraption. Still, he cringes at his own completely useless addition and gives Julio a look like he just owned him. Which he knows he didn't. What the fuck is he even trying to do here. Maybe he should just let Santana talk. "That's not necessarily true," he says, immediately contradicting his decision to let Santana do the talking. "You can realize after you've been manipulated how much they fucked you over." He shrugs. 

He narrows his eyes at Santana's example about the fly, and he thinks about it for a moment. "But maybe he can convince you to stop making the deal." Get to the root of the problem. He ignores Julio's comments about illusions. Santana's at least half the reason he's even attempted to work on his illusion magic. Blaine's like 15%. The rest is just he really likes learning. 

Looking at the kid, he lifts his chin. "What did you explain to him?" Matt asks, just as Julio shushes them. A sigh leaves him before he can stop it when they find him online and immediately put their foot in their mouth. "Theories? About doppels?" An eyebrow is high in his forehead, and his arms remain crossed against his chest.

Santana is actually a little happy Matt is there and not only full of regret. "Yeah! Thanks, Matt" She stops to look at him. "Wait, what do you mean?" Hey, nice, actually they are discussing solutions and brainstorming. Who had though, talking things with people actually helped? "In this case, stop doing the deal would MAYBE had been getting rid of that bastard's magic. But SOMEONE" Marley. "Didn't want to testify for it.Yes I'm talking about you know how." She says Marley with her mouth in case Matt doesn't get it, but with no sound. "It's Marley I'm blaming Marley. And the entire  judicial system but mostly Marley."

The man in the sunglasses continues his theory.  "You know what to do agaisnt an illusion, Santana. Look out for the truth." His phone sounds, he checks it,  an shush the kid again,  "Don't waste time, we have to go now, Mist. I'll ask around to make your work easier, and you give the fucking information, alright?" 

Someone whose name starts with O knows they don't have much time. Their theories won't be stopped. "Everyone thinks doppels come from witches but WHAT IF" They say, very exagerately and dramatic. "Doppels are actually the tricksters who get to become human."

Gears are turning in Matt's head, and he points at Santana as he processes the information. "No--I don't mean Fuchs's magic," he says, as his attention remains on trying to hypothetically solve the enchantment problem. "Although I have no fucking clue why Marley wouldn't get her ass to court to testify," he says offhandedly, only sounding mildly annoyed. "I'm saying we get to the source of the problem. The source of your beliefs. And work from there." Shrugging, he speaks towards the ground for a moment. "Maybe we don't get rid of the deal at first. Maybe some days the fly is quiet. Maybe some days it just lays there. Maybe it buzzes without being able to see it. But we take steps."

Look out for the truth. Manipulate yourself back. Santana says Julio doesn't know enchantments, but Matt's starting to think he knows enough, at least, for them to make some progress. "Leaving so soon?" he asks, like he was really enjoying their company. 

Matt is straight-up rendered speechless when O-kid shares their theory, at least for a series of seconds that stretch long. If tricksters became human, would they have memories? Would they arise as doppels do? "Where would we get the memories of our past lives, then?" He asks, trying to one-up some kid, like an adult is supposed to do. "I'm pretty sure doppels are just doppels. Tricksters who become human are humans who used to be tricksters?" The first sentence is pretty confident, but the second sounds just about as unsure as he feels right now.

Santana groans "Because her problems are more important than everyone's else." But she rather focus on solutions now. "Ugh, Matt, the source is the entire world and systematic racism. This is not a thing we can change from the source. We are looking for realistic, magical solutions here" She listens to how Matt follows her fly metaphor. She doesn't agree, she just wants to kill the bug forever. Her fake dad was going to leave, anyway. "Alright, alright, I'll give you your shit info, but you better do something because I'm just going to give you as muchinformation as you give me. You have to go? Oh my God, please, tell me is not because there is some dangerous person coming here trying to kill you out of revenge for some fucked up thing you did to them." She stops for a moment. "It's Darling?" She is so annoyed at the kid. "If there wasn't like, proofs or evidence of doppels coming from witches, yeah, suuuure." Santana rolls her eyes to Matt outright lying to the kid. You don't even think you are human, Matt, don't say tricksters are now

Someone  whose name starts with O doesn't want to leave yet. "From the life as a trickster, of course! But doppels comes from someone else." The kid laughs at Matt question. "Hahahaha you have no idea, don't you?"

 The man in the sunglasses text someone, then throws the phone to the ground and breaks it. "You know it." He says with a smile and he could talk in spanish, but it would be easier to talk on a way only Santana would get. "But no, do you remember Clown and Mirror? Medieval fair, 2014.  This is like that time before Nails tried to throw a goat to Doorframe combined with that time Darling and Tibula were betting our lifes on a game of jenga at the aquarium." 

Santana hears that totally understanding the gravity of the situation and grabs Matt's arm. "Matt we have to go."

Matt scoffs. "A lot of shit is product of systemic oppression, and it doesn't mean you can't work on it. " He's pretty proud of his idea and his metaphors, alright? Besides, life already seems pretty bleak without adding 'no way to combat self-loathing thoughts instilled on you by systemic racism'. He's not about to add an extra layer of bleakness on purpose. "Maybe there's no magic solution. At least not without using more enchantments." 

"I'm almost sure that's not true," he tells the kid. "There's some pretty witchy memories in there. But it's not like that shit's gonna stop you from making up theories like that in your head. So whatever." Jesus, he's like the teenager here now. But he's annoyed. Sure, he has no idea, but do they have to point it out like that??

He goes to continue to argue--he's not even sure about what, but that seems to be what he's doing today--when it seems like things start moving real fast, real suddenly. His head jerks one way, and then the other, and his heart drums in his chest when tension seems to rise out of nowhere and Santana grabs his arm. "Wh--what? Sure. Sure, let's go." Glancing back towards Julio and the kid, he waves half-heartedly. "Nice... to meet you?"

Santana frows. There is has to be a magic solution. Bitch don't say that bullshit but instead she just makes complaining noises about it. She waves goodbye "Die a painful dead." Santana says, with a friendly tone. "I love you too!" his 'dad' answers. Oliver just says bye very enthusiastically.

She brings Matt outside, almost dragging him by the arm until they are out the flat. And then until they are far away from the flat. "Oh man, uuuuuughhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I fucking hate him so much!" She complains, angry. "Sorry I dragged you into this. But..." She calms herself a bit. "But it really helped me. I think."

Matt waves goodbye to everyone in a confused daze as he's pulled away, partly by his own feet and partly by Santana. He's so confused by the circumstances, but he doesn't say anything while Santana complains. He just pats her on the arm while glancing over the direction they'd come from. 

His muscles relax when Santana says it had helped her. "Did it? You seemed sort of skeptical about it." His teeth worries his lip for a moment. "I told you before that I would help you with this, and I haven't been doing great at that, but whatever you think of for this shit, I'm in."

I hope you’re doing well. It has been a Month™️ for me. I really don’t want to just trauma dump on you cause I know you’re going through it, but this month has really showed me how much I use fandom and fics to escape cause oof. I was wanting to message earlier, but I’ve not had the time.

Not to be stalker lol, but I was on your ao3 the other day and went to your bookmarks (which I promise I do often with other writers lmao, it’s my way to find new fics when searching just isn’t coming up with anything) and I absolutely love that you read BTS fics. I started out with one direction fics lmao and one of my closest friends is a kpop fanfic reader, so I just find it iconic and thought I’d mention it ahah.

I really hope you’re doing well though and come back to us soon. Not even as a writer. Cause I understand how impossible it is to write when the passion isn’t there. I just got a fire to write again and it took me 3 months. Sorry this message is all over the place, but just hope you’re doing good and can’t wait to see you on tumblr again.

When Mafia III was originally released, there was certainly some controversy about the change in setting. Instead, Lincoln Clay is a soldier that has just returned back to the fictional New Bordeaux that is based on New Orleans from Vietnam and agrees to help some family and friends with the Haitian mob that have come knocking. This ends up going very poorly and leaves Lincoln wanting revenge against mob boss Sal Marcano and his mafia family. The story is largely carried by the incredibly captivating Lincoln Clay and the other characters around him, with a solid story surrounding them. Mafia III: Definitive Edition was not afraid to tackle much more intense and dark themes than in the past, which still holds up well now four years later from the original release. While it is definitely a different style than the first couple games, the story is very much worth experiencing here and may be the best of the trilogy in that area.

Where Mafia III suffers most though is the very unoriginal game structure as you play through Lincoln’s story in a once again large sandbox open world experience. The original city of New Bordeaux this time around is larger than both of the first two games combined, but that kind of is a hindrance in some ways as you’re consistently having to drive across the map for new missions. New Bordeaux itself is split up into nine different districts across nine chapters, each of which have a story mission that is split up for you to complete. The repetitive nature of these missions though is where the game really struggles.

Within each district, you have to take over both of the rackets that are found in that location. Once you have successfully done this, a third mission within the chapter will open where you have to take out the person in charge of that district. There is a little more to do in the later chapters, but the biggest problem is that the structure is especially tedious and will have you growing tired of everything in no time. This feels like a course correction from the emptier world found in the previous games, though they may have gone a bit too far in the other direction.

On the plus side, Mafia III does introduce side missions this time around, a major flaw of the previous game. While not available right away, you’ll eventually get access to side missions that branch off from the main story. These include things such as helping out the underbosses by completing tasks for them to gain favor. While they aren’t that most involved overall, they are better than having nothing extra to do like in Mafia II.

The gameplay itself is really nothing to write home about either, albeit a little more refined here. One of the somewhat frustrating elements of the previous game was that you had to press A to leave cover every time, but now you can move much more freely when trying to move between cover or be stealthy. You have the option to adjust aim assist to the level you prefer, which can make the game a bit too easy. There are plenty of guns to choose from here though, with the ability to set them to a wheel and choose between them.

Compared to its predecessors, Mafia III has a major edge in the visuals department. The recent Mafia II: Definitive Edition was definitely more polished visually, but there is still no real comparison between it and Mafia III. Mafia III: Definitive Edition looks great all around, with the character models and environments looking much more realistic. The performance on Xbox One was pretty solid most of the time, with some slowdown here and there when too much was happening on screen. Thankfully, the character movement in general felt much more natural than in the prior games.

While Mafia III: Definitive Edition is literally supposed to be the same game with a new name and all DLC included, somehow Hangar 13 completely messed up one aspect of this game in the included update. Mafia III was given Xbox One X and PS4 Pro support after the release of the game, which added HDR and 4K support to the game to make it look even better. In what is a baffling mistake, somehow this latest update has completely removed this support, now giving you no way to use 4K on consoles. This is something that absolutely has to be patched in, but there is no way it should have ever happened in the first place, especially when this was a free “upgrade” for those that already owned the game.

Mafia as a series has always had a great soundtrack to match the time period, but Mafia III takes this to another level entirely. With the game being set in the late ’60s, the music was ripe for the picking from the era and Hangar 13 did not disappoint. These include songs from artists such as The Rolling Stones, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and Johnny Cash, as the game offers over 100 different songs in total. The stellar soundtrack will constantly have you taking longer routes in your vehicle just to finish an entire song, which at least somewhat helps the fact that the game lacks fast travel.

Mafia III: Definitive Edition somehow managed to improve in one way by including all of the prior DLC, while also taking multiple steps backwards by somehow removing support for Xbox One X, even as a mistake. The story of Lincoln Clay is still enthralling and handles some very dark themes quite well, but the lifeless open world structure found in Mafia III: Definitive Edition really hinders what could have been the best game in the trilogy.

The Verdict

Briala, a WOC, grew up serving Celene, a white woman, comparing her hair to horse-dung. And had to just grin and bare it because that was her job, and her mother instructed her to be Celene’s friend.

Briala fears having to ask Celene to enact justice. Celene says what the elves want is of no care to her. She then mocks the idea of elven freedoms. And “It was not quite an apology” my ass - Briala has nothing to apologize for.

What had happened at Halamshiral was a still-painful ache, but the elves had rebelled. Celene had done what she had to do. Had Briala been there, she might have been able to turn Celene to a different course, but Briala herself was the one who had left. It was not Celene’s fault that she had been manoeuvred into doing what she had done, any more than it was Briala’s fault for leaving Celene without the guidance she had wanted. -pg 167

Celene even has Briala convinced that she’s to blame for Halamshiral, because she wasn’t there to tell Celene otherwise. If one person in a relationship relies solely on another to guide their morals, yes, I would indeed call that toxic.

But anyway, these are just a few samples of Celene’s dismissive behaviour towards Briala. She only does the bare minimum to keep Briala at her side; she does not truly care about the elves.

Also Bria has accepted that neither the city or Dalish elves see her as part of them; letting her rule with him as her mask--much like forcing them to work together--while interesting in theory, wouldn't last I don't think anyway. Briala’s whole character arc is about discovering who she is as her own person, and reconnecting with her people. Unless “has” was a typo for “had.”

Also, why is it unrealistic for Dalish and city elves to work together? Dalish elves go to the city, and city elves go to the Dalish all the time. In some cases you have clans that have very strong relationships with nearby alienages, such as Clan Boranehn and the Edgehall alienage in Knight Errant, for example.

Bug Run 5: Bugs In The Big City

Gen 5 is the Bug Generation, without a doubt. It introduced 18 new bug types, more than any other gen, and many of those species are absolute favorites. The list includes the first-ever Mythical Bug, Genesect, and the unique Fire/Bug Volcarona. Gen 5 had the first new bug Gym leader since Bugsy in Gold/Silver, and introduced some amazing staples such as Quiver Dance. Truly, Gen 5 was a grand time to be a bug.

Gen 5 also happens to be my second-favorite pokemon generation. I have been anticipating this run for quite a long time.

A quick review of the challenge run rules!

1.) The team must be bug types only. HM slaves required for progression are the exception but will never be used in battle (even just to switch in to faint). Also, all the bug pokemon on the team must come from this generation.

2.) No healing items used during battle (unless the foe uses them first, and then you may only match the items one-for-one). Held items are allowed.

3.) No over-levelling. Pokemon should be at roughly normal levels for a given area and not be at a higher level than the maximum-levelled pokemon in a gym leader’s team. Again, this is so pokemon can win on their own merits.

Now that we’re clear on the rules, it’s time to strap in with my starter, the squishy little Green Bean, and get started on my grand adventure!!

Despite my better judgment, I did choose Snivy before promptly dumping him in my PC, sealing my fate to fight a rival with a fire starter. Considering my own starter would be 4x weak to fire, this might be described as Fucking Dumb, but fear not! The elemental moves don’t kick in until a bit later in the game!

And besides, I picked up a Venipede in the dark grass on Route 20 quickly enough, so my team now consisted of two squishy grubs. Tremble before us!

The first gym is the adorkable Cheren in our hometown, but it isn’t really anything to get worried over. Skipping over to Virbank takes a little more effort, but my team hits level 20 each by the time we face her and it’s still manageable. Green Bean just clocks Koffing out with a bunch of Tackles (and uses a handy Pecha berry) and Tonka takes care of his fellow brethren with a Screech and some Rollouts.

I call bullshit, though, Roxie. What drugs are you giving your poke to get it to evolve before mine?

After this gym and a few more Team Plasma shenanigans, we take a boat to the big city, Castelia. I enjoy exploring the city at my leisure. They did a great job with this city and I feel like it’s way easier to navigate than the city in X/Y, honestly.

It also has a lot of fun details like this little nod to older players. Anywho, in the process of my travels among the city and its glamorous sewers, Green Bean evolves into Swadloon and then, the very next level later, into his magnificent final form, Leavanny. So I guess Bean’s been enjoying his adventures since his friendship maxed out so fast!

Next is kicking the pants off Burgh and making snide remarks about his anatomy. I have to hand it to Burgh, though– his gym looks fucking beautiful. I adore the cocoon aesthetic and whatever the hell pool of rainbow madness is going on up here in his art studio, and the music is great too. Heck, I even love his outfit and chunky butterfly belt buckle. It’s just a shame he’s so easy to beat. You need to step up, man, represent our bug brethren better.

Soon after, we pass through the Desert Resort and pick up our next team member, the rock hermit crab Dwebble. I forget to take a picture of him freshly caught, but rest assured he is both smol and adorable. His typing and moves are a great asset against Flying types.

The gym after Burgh is in Nimbasa, which has been moved to a fashion show since Pokemon Black/White. Elesa’s pokemon spam Volt Switch rather obnoxously, but Green Bean resists the move and sort of just took the hits while using Razor Leaf. Why Razor Leaf? Because Static is annoying. Lucky she got a crit on Emolga to help speed things along. Elesa’s ace, Zebstrika, has Flame Charge, which I don’t need to tell you is scary for a Bug/Grass type. Somehow, though, he took the hit??? Back to more Volt Switch shenanigans and Elesa used a potion in there somewhere, so I got to potion Green Bean back up and let him finish things off.

Things were running pretty smoothly. On the way out of Nimbasa, we ran into Charles, who apparently is a heartbreaker, which he is keen to repeatedly mention. After we break him, Tonka has a little surprise for us.

Giant murder centipede horse is finally here! Love this thing.

Our next major landmark is to pass through Driftveil City, but I’m actually content to make a side-trip before heading right to the local gym. There are some electric caves nearby that beckon us.

I don’t know how Nest Balls exactly work, but I had a few so I tossed one. I kind of dig their color scheme. Anyway, our bug collection has now grown to four. Well, I also grabbed a Karrablast on the way to the caves, but I won’t be using it on this run. I can’t evolve him on my emulator in any legitimate way, so it wouldn’t really be worth the effort of training him.

After training my new little electric tick a bit, I head for the Ground-type gym. Obviously Zippy won’t be much use in this particular gym, but don’t fear! She’ll prove her worth later on.

For this gym, I had to strategize a little. Pangea took care of Krokorok with a couple Bug Bites. The ace, the steel mole, was a worthy opponent. I screeched twice with Tonka before going down to Rock Slide, then came in with Green Bean and landed a critical hit with Razor Leaf. It went down in one. Finally, Sandslash was easy pickings for Green Bean. Our levels were on par with his team, as usual.

The next gym was Flying-type. Honestly, not that big of a deal after Pangaea and Zipzap evolved. One Rock Slide took out Swoobat, then a couple Screeches on Skarmory before Rock Sliding it to death (although Crustle barely survived the Steel Wing, ouch). Her final was Swanna, but one Electro Ball took that out. Water/Flying gives a pretty big weakness, after all. My team was at levels 34-37.

The Professor wanted me to move on to the next town after I defeated the gym, but I actually had a little backtracking I wanted to do first. It seems I got a little too hasty in my eagerness for progress and left something important behind.

So I finished exploring the ghost tower in the area, then backtracked through Chargestone Cave, finished off some trainers and such in there, before returning to Driftveil. There was a little cave entrance I needed to take. After lots of wandering … . . .

We found what we were looking for. It was a quick and easy capture, on my second Dusk Ball. It helped that I had my Crustle out front to deal with the fire moves.

After that, we were finally ready to move on. And we had built ourselves a team of five by now:

These bug runs are supposed to be a challenge run, but to be honest, with this team, things haven’t been all that difficult. Everyone’s quite the powerhouse. Truly, gen 5 is the Era of Bugs. We have one final member to add on, but that won’t come until much later. So for now, this is the crew, and I think we’re pretty well set here.

I’ll leave this post for now! This was meant to be the halfway post, but I think we’re a little past halfway. Ah, well! Still more game to come.
