#JackedKirby - The 2 Dimensional Man!!!! 💥💥💥 Jack is very well known for his early Marvel Horror/Sci-Fi anthology book work, but many don’t know that he cut his teeth on these kinds of stories at National Comics (DC) on the Tales of the Unexpected anthology series!!! 💥💥💥 Take this excellent story, The Two Dimensional Man from Tales of the Unexpected #Issue24 published in April of 1958. The writers on these series are mostly unknown, but Jack’s art is documented and extremely recognizable.... 💥💥💥 In the story we see a scientist develop a compound that can be applied to a 3 Dimensional living beings or animals and render them 2 Dimensional... basically turning them into flat pieces of paper!!! 💥💥💥 They plan on using it to make transporting livestock easier and more efficient (Pic 2), turning the massive animals into sheets of paper thin cows that can be stacked up in a neat pile!!! Of course hijinks ensues when the powder is applied to humans, rendering the flat as a board as well!!! 💥💥💥 Gotta love Jack’s creativity... it’s awesome how he gets the images across in this short story. It has a very Twilight Zone feel to it and is quite reminiscent of the many stories Jack would illustrate for Timely/Marvel anthologies in the future!!! 💥💥💥 #JackKirby #KingKirby #Kirby #TwoDimensionalMan #TalesOfTheUnexpected #DCComics #NationalComics #HorrorAnthologyComics #Comic #ComicBook #ComicBooks #Comics #50sComics #ComicsOfThe50s #IGComics #ComicsOfIG #IGComicBooks https://www.instagram.com/p/BwM-D2YB7bI/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=klia06k8my8d

#JackedKirby - Bomb Cyclone Blizzard of 2018... Kirby Style!!! We are experiencing a first for weather here in NYC today... they are calling it a “bomb cyclone blizzard” and it is causing an uproar. Schools are closed, stores are sold out of bread & milk and we are huddled up with a stack of Kirby comics we got for Christmas, eager to catch up on some goodies from the King! I found this page fitting for today’s weather. It comes from Black Magic #Issue2 from December of 1950. The story is called “The Scorn of the Faceless People” and is a dream analysis story, something Kirby/Simon would often use to fill the pages of their horror/sci-fi anthologies of the 50s. In the story a man named Edward Morrow tells his psychologist Dr Clark a terrifying tale of faceless crowds that persecute him night after night. The dream sequence starts with Morrow coming upon a division in the road... one lighted, one dark and dreary. He takes the dark and dreary one, and ends up in a snowy colonial village (and he is just in his PJs and robe). Freezing to death, he picks out a house and bangs on the door looking for a warm place to beat the storm. I love the layout of this page, with it being essentially a full splash that has two overlapping panels in the upper left and lower right of the page. The upper shows Morrow traveling through the wooded path, snow everywhere. The splash portion shows the snow covered street that Morrow is traveling down in the village. And the lower panel shows Morrow on the footsteps of the House, begging to be let in! (Close up over the lower panel included as well!) I think this page is a perfect one for today’s Bomb Cyclone Blizzard 2018... how about you?!? #JackKirby #KingKirby #Kirby #BlackMagic #HorrorComic #HorrorAnthologyComic #DreamAnalysis #SimonAndKirby #50sComics #ComicsOfThe50s #Comic #Comics #ComicBook #ComicBooks #splashpages #comicbookartist #IGcomics #igcomiccommunity #bombcyclone #bombcycloneblizzard2018 #blizzard2018
