Hi Bridgerton fandom! I’m reaching out on behalf of Dead Boy Detectives! Please help us out!
I’m here in a desperate plea of fandom solidarity: will you guys please sign our petition and, moreover, would you be willing to check out Dead Boy Detectives on Netflix?
This isn’t just about getting a season 2: we’re trying to get justice for the cast, crew, and writers behind this unapologetically queer show. Netflix has gotten far too comfortable canceling fantasy shows, especially ones that are diverse or LGBTQ+ (like Dead Boy Detectives), and we want to send a message that our stories are worth telling.
You guys are a huge fandom behind a hugely popular show, and we need that kind of support desperately!
I feel confident when I promise you guys will LOVE this show and should check it out! Dead Boy Detectives is campy, whimsical, supernatural, and oh so delightfully QUEER! The age range of characters is diverse and the lead cast is ¾ POC! This show is full of drama, horror, magic, romance, action, stunning visuals, cunty villains, and hilarious quips. You know what would be a cool though tense Monster Hunter game? It being a more research game instead of hunter. Essentially PLA for MH, where it's more stealth, survival, and some elements of horror game. With you going out to study and learn monster behavior, with people having very little knowledge and they're actually terrifying, and you're going out with minimal to no combat skills.
All you can really do is try being a ninja researcher, sneaking around, making use of the items you have, and throwing them out to discourage or distract monsters. And if you're successful, you'll get to see new animations, terf wars, more MH lore, the world, and ecology; and a lot of tense moments as these are huge, deadly creatures that can easily overpower you.
And maybe as you level up, you could either go more hunter and adopt some protective tactics, or maybe you wind up befriending a monster and they'll guard you or let you ride them for a quick escape.
Not sure if it'll ever come to be, but I love speculative Monster Hunter ecology, and potentially getting some of it confirmed and having a game circle around it would just be awesome, and getting more of the world and how beautiful and scary nature is, and I think it'd be a really cool but also terrifying game.

To add to it, they can bring back underwater sections to study underwater fauna, which so far, is the least covered of the monster biomes, and I would love coming back to underwater just to see more as they only scratched the surface of what exists and some of the most diverse life is underwater. Also, these monsters can move much faster than you and you'll be more limited in what you can do. Delightfully terrifying.

And ultimate top tier post game content/challenge mode could be trying to observe, sneak around, and study Elder Dragons. Can you just imagine trying to study Fatalis' ecology? The most mystical of all Elder Dragons and it's only known purpose for living is just ending all of humanity. It'd be hard to study, but I would love to see what Fatalis does when they're just vibing.

This is a speculative Monster Hunter game I'd love to play, and I'd be so scared and tense, but it'd be soooo cool just having something that delves more into research than fighting and be more stealth oriented.

10 Underrepresented Horror Movies to check out for Spooky Season. (List originally written in May of 2021):
1.) Happy Death Day
This movie is great if you want a (mostly) comedic movie with a horror edge to it.
Like I said, this is a horror comedy first and foremost, with a time-loop twist…
It’s fun, fast paced, and has a surprising amount of character development and conflict throughout.

2.) Get Out
Delightfully refreshing.
This movie mixes horror with meta humor and racial commentary. I thought it did a great job creating a feeling of unease throughout, and it managed to have a fleshed out and intriguing protagonist that you can really root for.
The music gave me Coraline-vibes for some reason— what with all the harp/string based instruments, and with the unsettling chanting throughout its soundtrack.

Overall, it’s a movie that mixes typical horror conventions with a couple of modern twists.
3.) Freaky
This movie isn’t without it’s faults, as the dialogue and the tropes are often very cliche…
Purposely so... But it was still a bit corny at points.
But it grew on me as it went on.
There was some great character acting, and much like Happy Death Day, it takes a familiar concept and adds a horror-style twist to it. (Which makes sense, considering they’re both directed by the same person.) This time, the gimmick is the tride and true, good ol' body swap.

There were a ton of classic slasher/ horror movie references and meta moments, and it was rich with humor. Plus there's a group of diverse leads that helm this movie… they bounce off each other well, and have a ton of chemistry together. It's just an all around fun, freeeaaaky, horror movie.

4.) Suspiria (1977)
Suspiria does a brilliant job obtaining an eerie and eye-catching atmosphere, with the use of primary/secondary colors and it’s haunting original soundtrack... It’s also the first (and only) Giallo film I’ve ever seen.

The plot is pretty straightforward. But the real artistry, is in the atmosphere it sets and in the strange surrealism and mysteries it presents.
It relies much more on supernatural thrills and horror than your typical Giallo film typically does. But it is certainly a welcome change here, it's a movie meant to be experienced. Using it's strange, uncanny nature to garner thrills in the audience, both sonically and visually.

5). Doctor Sleep
The sequel to the horror classic, The Shining.
As far as sequels go, I found this movie outstanding. They did a fantastic job recreating the iconic settings, and with the character casting. The villains were really unnerving. They presented a real danger to the heroes, (Rebecca Ferguson did a fantastic job in particular). The powers were dynamic and unique. And even though it ran at a fairly long runtime, it flew by very quickly.

6.) Halloween (1978)
John Carpenter and Debra Hall are masterful, as a directing and scoring team. The soundtrack is tense and iconic, and this is the horror movie that popularized the slasher. This movie had shockingly little-to-no gore, and mostly relied on building suspense instead. The way that this movie makes you search for Michael in the frame is amazing, and not something I've seen too often since.
7.) The Descent
(Probably?) The of the most well known horror spelunking movies…
This British-Australian movie stars an all female cast, and kicks some serious ass.
It had some serious build up, and some of the better executed jump scares I’ve seen in a horror movie.

There's themes about trauma, and not knowing who to trust. And what follows, is a story about a group of adrenaline junkies. that inadvertently get themselves lost in a cave.
Though it eventually veers into a creature feature.
The cast were convincing and distinctive as their respective characters, and the cave scenes were brilliantly claustrophobic.

The sets were impressive. The (original) ending is incredible… And the characters were capable, (and maybe just maybe,) equally as vicious as the cave dwellers.
(note: it is so important to watch this with the og ending!)
8.) The Lighthouse
This is one of the weirdest movies I’ve ever...experienced.
Shot in black and white, on Kodak Double-X 35mm footage, this movie really commits to the time period it’s set in.
Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe really bring their A+ game here, and really commit to portraying the compelling tale of strangers that slowly start to lose their sanity, while cut off from the rest of world.

The set design is immaculate and the aforementioned lighthouse is truly impressive in scope.

It feels like one big fever dream, and has the watcher yearning to know who’s actually telling the full truth. There’s a lot to unpack and analyze: from the painting inspired shots, (ie. Hypnosis.) and it's references to mythology, and even explores themes like sexuality, isolation, etc.…
It does a ton of interesting things visually, too.

If I had to describe this movie… I’d probably look to how the director himself put it: “You know, does Prometheus ever encounter Proteus in any classical mythology? Not that I’m aware of, but maybe that’s happening in this movie. And so, therefore, Prometheus is taking on some of the heroes that wrestle with Proteus’s characteristics as well as his own.” —
9.) The Banana Splits Movie
Basically, it’s Five nights at Freddy’s meets the Banana Splits show. (A REAL 1960s children’s program that actually existed.)
It’s a crazy ass horror movie that takes real life kid show characters, and makes them the bad guys...

So, if you’ve ever watched a television show, and thought that there was something just... inherently creepy about it, than this one’s for you. (Especially if you’re into crazed-animal animatronics.) (I'm looking at you fnaf fans)...

It was insane, gory… and while it’s admittedly not the greatest horror movie in the world, it certainly ran with it’s ridiculous concept and knew exactly what it was going for. (Not to mention that it also has some pretty decent practical effects.)

10.) Carrie
Sooo seventies, and sooo awesome!
This movie is another horror classic based on Stephen King’s first published work.
It's definitely more of a slow burn, saving most (if not all) of the terror until the third act.
So, if prom night movies seem boring to you, Carrie is here to shake things up… And nothing spices up prom night quite like religious overbearing parents, pigs blood, psychopathic kids, and a telekinetic massacre… right?

So I watched—and loved—Fear Street on Netflix. It’s fun, it’s scary, it’s very well directed, impressively shot, and delightfully queer. I’m also really excited to see where it goes next, since it is a trilogy of films that are APPARENTLY COMING OUT ONE AFTER THE OTHER IM BEING FED VERY WELL
Um…
Ahem…so anyways…I’m super stoked to foray into the 70s for the obviously Friday The 13th homaging next installment. But I as I’m wont to do, I have thoughts, I have theories, I have several analyses bursting out of my brain for zombies to eat.
And so without further ado; here’s my Fear Street theory (and yes, all of the spoilers apply):

So…yeah.
Sara Fiers is not the villain. She most definitely is not.
That’s pretty unlikely given the intensely unsubtle foreshadowing in the opening credits ALONE.
No…the witch isn’t the villain at all.
Sunnyvale is.
It’s particularly interesting to me how much the high key in your face opening credits establish very clearly the dichotomy between Shadyside and Sunnyvale; one town full of murder, mayhem, and misfortune, the other prosperous, picturesque, and peaceful. It’s the difference between Killer Central USA and The Sunniest Place On Earth. And that, in my opinion, is—forgive the pun—shady as all hells.
In fact, it’s so very much and exceedingly reeking with suspicion…
It’s stated extremely plainly throughout the film how Shadyside has continuously descended into a pit of death and suffering as the years pass by, while Sunnyvale remains rich and pleasant and as safe as can be. That cannot be a coincidence—especially in a horror movie, a genre where almost nothing is ever coincidental.
And if Buffy the Vampire Slayer has taught me anything at all, it’s that supposedly idyllic towns that market themselves as “sunny” are never ever to be trusted at all costs.
Ever. Never ever ever.
The main reason I find Sunnyvale sus is pretty obvious, however: if they weren’t, why even mention the difference in the towns’ wealth and safety? Why bring up that conflict? Why even have two towns in the first place? What would be the point if there’s no relation? Sunnyvale’s entire existence within the story, and their relative prosperity in comparison to Shadyside, seems very much like a clue that they’re involved in some freaky deaky dealings and possible black magic. They wouldn’t bring up these details if they weren’t gonna matter in the long run; you don’t spend that much time and effort just to set up a red herring.
Unless it’s just bad writing, which might be probable but seems unlikely for this specific property at least…
Another big indication comes in the witch’s supposed motivations…which don’t seem to exist beyond “muah ha ha murder” and “generic revenge” if we’re being completely honest here. But that flimsiness made me take a closer look into the visions Sam got after her blood seeped into Sara’s grave and as she got closer to death: a swarm of bees, red tinted almost like blood got splashed onto the camera, a girl screaming into the ether, an image of the Witch’s Mark, and who I presume to be Sara yelling “YOU! IT’S YOU!” over and over again. But when I look at that and put it in context with the motives the 1994 cast comes up with, there’s not much cohesion, is there?
Revenge as a motive wouldn’t explain why Heather was killed in the cold open. It also wouldn’t explain the weekly tragedies that befall Shadyside. If Sara wanted revenge on the town that tortured and killed her, why all the drama? Supposing she can possess the dead, why not just necromance an army of unkillable zombie monstrosities to raze the town in one go and get all over with? Why is this bitch out here doing the most? It doesn’t add up and it doesn’t make sense.
And if you take all that in tandem with the various tragedies of Shadyside—the ways people were murdered, the consistency of the massacres over the years, etc—it starts to paint an intriguing picture:
These deaths aren’t passion filled or emotive or generalized, they’re targeted (at those whose blood has mixed with the witch’s grave) and more importantly: they’re low key ritualistic. It screams of the classic sacrificial deaths and equivalent exchange. Sunnyvale’s peace and prosperity is very likely rooted in a demonic ritual that both feeds on the suffering of Shadyside as well as directly cause it as a sort of feedback, taking the brunt of the bad luck, poverty, and decay meant for Sunnyvale only heightened and magnified to insane degrees. It’s why so many deaths have happened over the years: it’s a clear method of perpetuating that state of perfect, suburban idyllia.
And honestly if this theory does turn out to be the case, it’d serve as an excellent metaphor for wealth inequality, possibly gentrification, and most definitely exploitation of the lower classes of the socioeconomic hierarchy by the upper crust elite WASP 1% so as to perpetuate the status quo of the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer and continuing to suffer. That itself is kinda sorta already supported by the text of Fear Street too in that Sunnyvale is made up of mainly privileged white suburbanites who live in antebellum architecture style houses and manors blanketed by green grass and white picket fences whereas in contrast Shadyside is home to a clearly diverse and multiethnic population that is disenfranchised, poor, low in prospects, high in death and suffering, and living in relative squalor…
So imma leave that here and I hope y’all add your own theories and observations if you can and want to. I’d love to read them so please don’t hesitate to reblog with your additions and stuff!

Summary: The one where Tony pushes Steve into a photoshoot, rubbing his hands and smirking at such action being almost a practical joke; a great way to make Cap squirm for a good cause.
Well, the joke just might turn out to be on him.
Warnings: mention of child cancer patients and disabled kids, Tony being a bit of an ass, attempt at humour, some language

“Ah, Cap! Just the guy I wanted to see!”
Tony’s voice reached Steve’s ears just as he entered the kitchen after his morning run and shower, his heart skipping a beat, his whole body instantly on alert; he wanted nothing but to spin on his heels and walk right back to where he came from.
It wasn’t that he dreaded to hear there was a mission; that would be fairly alright even if it meant that the world was once again a terrible place with horrible people who needed to be stopped in it. No, Steve’s fright was caused by something else entirely.
You see, living in the Avengers Tower meant spending extended periods of time in Tony Stark’s company. Spending extended periods of time in Tony’s company meant that one would learn how to recognize certain situations; Steve could easily tell when the genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist had pulled an all-nighter in his lab, when he was in a long-term fight with Pepper, when he was annoyed, when he was delighted.
And this right here, the ‘Just the guy I wanted to see!’, that meant nothing good – certainly not for the guy in question. Tony seemed awfully excited, beaming in a manner that told Steve that his friend was about to revel in the discomfort he was about to cause to him.
God help him.
Steve forced himself to continue walking, a tight mile on his lips.
“Morning to you too, Tony. What’s the matter?”
The man behind the legendary Ironman suit blatantly wiggled a finger at Steve, smirking; a clear sign that he already had his coffee, possibly with two shots of espresso.
“Morning. Glad you asked. You’re free in the afternoon, right?—Yeah, I already checked the agenda you keep with Jarvis-“ Make that three shots of espresso. Also, incredibly RUDE. But guess that what one gets when living in a building ran by an artificial intelligence. “-so I set up an appointment like four weeks ago-“
Steve shook his head, raising his hand in attempt to stop the rapid fire of words coming out of Tony’s mouth.
“Tony, hold on a second-“
“What?” the billionaire snapped, frowning. He hated being interrupted.
“First of all, I don’t have to share all my plans with Jarvis-“
“But you do. Sorry to break it to you, but you have no social life to keep under wraps.” Ruder. “…or do you have a hot date today?”
Steve was so embarrassed and so frustrated with the man that he was tempted to say yes just because. To make a point. But from the two men in the room, he was the less petty one, so he told him the truth.
“Well, no-“
“See? No problem here-“
“Yes there is!” Steve protested, crossing his arms on his chest as anger started to build there. “I could have had plans! You need to consult things with me! It’s about principle!”
Tony eyed Steve, unimpressed, his right brow arched. “Really? Principle? We’re gonna go there? I don’t think so. Aren’t you curious what the appointment is about?”
Steve sighed exasperatedly, so not done with the conversation Tony so carelessly dismissed, but he in fact was curious, wanting to be prepared for whatever insanity the man came up with.
Tony planning stuff usually equalled Pepper planning stuff, or both of them together, except Pepper had a habit of asking first before confirming the plans and setting appointments. Also, plans by Pepper usually equalled PR. Steve wasn’t too fond of PR stuff, genuinely hating shaking hands with politicians with smiles as fake as their election slogans.
“What’s the appointment about, Tony?” Steve asked to humour his not-exactly-a-friend-at-the-moment.
Tony smirked once again, a hint of mischief flashing in his dark irises.
“Feeling pretty today, Rogers?”
Steve’s eyebrows shot up, his muscles tensing; that sounded even worse than he had imagined.
“Huh?”
“Cause you’re gonna promote a new sports collection. You better start posing in front of the mirror to get your head in the game,” he mocked lightly, just as Steve predicted, basking in the horror that overtook Steve’s very being along with utter disbelief.
“What? Why?”
Steve did not enjoy being photographed. It usually involved ‘striking a pose’ or whatever the kids called it these days and once again, strained insincere smiles. Yeah, he was more than alright to take a picture with a fan if they were a kid who looked up to him. But other than that? Ugh.
“Come on! Lighten up, Rogers! It’s for charity!” Tony called out, stepping closer to pat Steve’s bicep. “Uh-huh, firm, good.”
Please let me leave, Steve begged the heavens, unsure if Tony was actually fawning over his muscles – serum-induced and supported by hard work, thank you very much – or if he was mocking Steve again.
“But seriously, it’s for charity that deals with enabling the disabled kids to do sports, any kind that’s possible with their impairment really. From some sort of a football to marathons or archery or whatever. It’s for a good thing.”
Steve felt the tension in his shoulders partly subdue, relaxing a bit. For one, that did sound like a good cause and for two, there was a barely noticeable change in Tony’s voice, just a little waver in his tone, giving away that for all the smirking and nudging and shit-talking, the genius cared for people and had a heart. Having a heart - Tony Stark’s most heavily guarded secret.
Steve sighed, his previously lost appetite returning.
“Alright, Tony. Where, when and what do I need to do?”
The other man patted his bicep again, this time in a truly friendly manner and grinned. “I’ll let Jarvis give you the details. You just try not to screw it up. Seriously, train how to smile in front of a mirror or something. Some poses, whatever. The photographer looks pretty good – not just professionally, if you know what I mean-“
Steve couldn’t help the eyeroll at the remark, one that was followed by Tony’s scandalized insulted gasp as he slowly made his leave, gesturing.
“-so I guess you don’t have to worry… much. Not sure if there will be trunks involved. Or a speedo. So, you know, keep it in your pants and don’t look anywhere I wouldn’t… which isn’t leaving much-“
“Bye, Tony,” Steve called after him, resisting the urge to childishly cover his ears just so he wouldn’t have to listen to the dirty teasing.
“What, it’s a valid concern we don’t want a lawsuit form her--“
“Go before I rattle you out to Pepper,” Steve grunted and at that, the genius grimaced and swiftly disappeared in the doorway.
Steve once again sighed and decided that he might need a bit more carbs in his breakfast than originally planned just so he survived today.

You weren’t kidding anyone – you were a teeny tiny bit nervous. Your career had been rather colourful, you dipped your fingers in many kinds of photography and you still enjoyed the diversity, the various pictures of beauty – and there was a lot of beauty in the world to be captured – still calling out to you.
You had met famous people before too and you always managed… but Captain America was a whole new level of a challenge. You were feeling equal parts worried and damn lucky for being picked for the job; a job you wouldn’t get a penny for. Shooting a thing like this for charity with a name as great as Steve Rogers, that wasn’t about money – not quick one at least. It was about prestige.  
On the other hand, you would get almost any props you’d think of, within reason, of course – just saying a word was enough. And you had a few, images already painted in your head as you read on Steven Grant Rogers a bit more, got a good look on pictures online, and obviously, saw the collection.
Thinking about it, maybe it was him who should be scared, because excitement was the leading emotion of yours for while now.
You saw him arrive, the chatter about it instantly spreading like fire. And honestly? He did look a bit spooked, so you took the liberty to knock on the room he was provided with, the stylists already in.
“Come in!” sounded from the inside and you took a deep breath, poking your head in – and deciding that entering fully was more polite since you were about to introduce yourself.
“Good afternoon,” you greeted him, only a showing a smidge of nerves on the outside, you hoped.
As you offered your name, the blond man – built like a tank, a very handsome tank, with the sweetest inviting smile and bright eyes – rose from his seat immediately, holding out a hand to shake, introducing himself as well as if it was necessary. It was a nice sentiment, however.
“Please, call me Steve. Something tells me that formalities would only get in the way,” he said with a slight curve to his lips and you felt yourself relax right away. He’d be excellent to work with. Now you really couldn’t wait.
“Then you must call me by my name too. Thank you for suggesting it,” you accepted delightfully, eyeing the pair of stylists you had met before on similar projects; this kind of business was all about knowing the right people. You nodded at them, grinning. “Now, Steve, I have a very important mission for you.”
The captain’s eyebrows jumped at your wording – and at your teasing. You scolded yourself lightly for your choice of words, unwittingly nudging him towards the wrong headspace. You didn’t need a soldier now, quite the opposite.
“Oh?”
“I need you to tell these two lovely people what amount of make-up and what hairstyle you’re comfortable with,” you explained, earning a slightly confused tilt of Steve’s head. “Sure, I have a certain visual in my head, I’m sure they have too.” You exchanged a knowing look with them. “But most of all I need you to feel good.  If you’re pressured into something you hate, we can’t work any magic there.”
Steve nodded in understanding, stiffly, and you had a hunch that he might have been pressured into this whole thing.
“But please don’t leave on us now,” you added quickly and he huffed a short laugh, bittersweet, letting you know that you were correct in your assumption.
“I won’t leave. But thank you for the tip.”
Gosh, he was so polite and had a subtle air of greatness around him (also known as BD energy these days), you could bask in his presence forever – but you had to work.
“All in days’ work. I’ll see you.”
“Looking forward to it.”
Your heart skipped an excited beat when a twinkle appeared in his brilliant blue irises and you were done for.
You really hoped your hands wouldn’t shake; you’d hate for the pictures to be blurry.

Once you were in your own kingdom of wonders, all nerves vanished, only child-like giddiness remaining. However, same couldn’t be said about Steve; he entered the space, fidgeting – not too obviously, but visibly enough – eyes flickering all over the room as if he just arrived to a Wonderland indeed.
If you were being honest, such a hunk of a man appearing so endearingly lost… he was kinda adorable.
You felt the corners of your lips automatically rise at your silly thoughts and at the image of him. Besides adorable, he sure looked hot in the white jacket. Who knew sportwear could look so alluring?
“Looking good here, Steve,” you called out as he approached and upon meeting your eyes, he attempted a smile too – little too apprehensive on the edges for you to believe it was honesty and not sheer professional courtesy. “Clothes feel good?”
You could see his expression melt into pure puzzlement at such question, clearly not having expected it.
“Oh… uhm, yes. Thank you.”
“I meant what I said. I need you to be comfortable, Steve,” you reminded him softly, earning a rather frantic nod.
“I… am.”
You could practically hear the unspoken ‘sort of’. Well, it was a work in progress.
“Little steps. Alright, so… I’m gonna be talking a lot. Cut me off whenever I’ll be getting on your nerves too much, okay? We’ll start with this set-up, with this background, obviously. I need to you to just walk to the centre- good, now turn your head to the left—a bit more… perfect.” Not.
Uh-huh. Probably his first time; you should have figured, though a heads-up would be nice. You should have asked dammit. You chewed on your lower lip, gears in your head spinning wildly as you tried to assess him.
Mm.
“What’s your favourite colour?”
His head snapped back to you in surprise and you couldn’t but chuckle, mock-frowning at him. He realized his mistake and quickly looked away, returning to the pose you had attempted to set him into before – his beautiful profile now dusted with pink.
“The colour?” you encouraged him and started taking photos even if you knew you wouldn’t use them, not with his shoulders so stiff and his expression slightly twisted in confusion still – even if he apparently tried to look natural.
“Uhm, blue.”
His face relaxed a fraction and you smiled to yourself.
“More sky-blue or royal blue or something entirely else?” you continued, not at all surprised when a second later you learned that it was sky-blue.
You thought it might be because of his eyes and you wondered; perhaps his eyes were the only thing that hadn’t changed during the serum transformation. His eyes were last straw to grasp at when his whole body suddenly didn’t feel like his.
Or maybe he was moonlighting as an artist, appreciating all kinds of beauty like you did and knew his stuff.
Maybe it was the fact that he hadn’t seen colour so well before his transformation and fell in love with the particular shade upon seeing the sky.
“Mm�� ever had the time to appreciate the sight of the ocean? Breath-taking blue on the surface, matching the sky, reflecting the sunrays so sharp that it would make one squint—but you don’t, you can’t. Because damn, it’s so beautiful and you can feel the breeze in your hair, almost flowing between your fingers and you just have to keep your eyes open to commit to memory what it looks like, how it feels, the sand between your toes, the sun warm on your skin…”
You babbled on, your heart fluttering at how damn magnificent Steve looked now, gradually relaxing his posture, his eyes softening, the corners of his mouth subtly raised in a smile, not an artificial one, just a soft curve to his lips as he lost himself in a pleasant memory – or a daydream. You had to remind yourself to press the shutter release; it would be too easy to simply watch the man in front of you coming out of his shell, releasing his light and grace for everyone to see.
“Absolutely wonderful, Steve, thank you. Shall we move on?” you praised him softly and his absurdly long lashes fluttered as if he indeed woke up from a dream. He appeared to be a little lost again, but the smile remained on his lips.
“Of course. Where do you want me, ma’am-- I mean-“
“Oh hush!” you interrupted him rudely with a grin. He was too precious for words, resembling a puppy, all soft and loveable and  yet he was somehow so respectable; you’d have to watch yourself just so you wouldn’t fall in love with him in the short time you were given together. “No ma’am, we’ve been over this. Now…”
You instructed him to walk to the wall of a ‘beach house’, half of the background imitating the very beach you had described; you offered him a different jacket and a cap to hold in his hands, the item serving more than one purpose; one was the campaign, the other was to give him something to do with his hands.
For this picture, you had him looking at you, which made you fidget self-consciously for a change; this time, the story you came up with was to put both of you at ease.
At this point, Steve was an open book to you – or, well, open enough. You had done your reading on him a bit, sure, but now you truly started to see his personality – one of your favourite parts of doing photography coming into play.
“Alright. Posture is great. Now, do you often meet kids?”
Steve wasn’t as surprised at the question anymore, replying calmly, but almost without a thought.
“Yeah. We, uh, we sometimes go to the hospitals to make the patients’ day a bit better? It’s such a small thing to do, I know, for an oncological kid, but they are always delighted. And they are so brave, I feel like a—well, like a sucker compared to them.”
“Weren’t you sickly as a kid?” you questioned lowly and Steve’s gaze dropped as he shifted his weight from one foot to the other, his expression falling.
“Done your reading, huh?”
“The wonders of 21st century and our educational system. But I’m just bringing it up to make a point. I think that you can see them and that’s why they like you visiting so much. Something tells me that you can truly feel what they feel and they sense it – kids can be ridiculously intuitive. Maybe you share, I don’t know of course, but I think that somehow they just know and they see a fellow warrior who beat all the illnesses too. And they look up to you, because you give them hope. And not just sick kids. I bet you met a few kids claiming you’re their favourite superhero just because you have a frisbee.”
He chuckled at that and nodded, but you could see that what you had said before the funny bit touched him and it had been that part that had the desired effect – to pull him back where you wanted him, relaxed and positive.
“Okay, that’s fair.”
“You’re not everyone’s hero for nothing, Steve, you’ve done some pretty heroic stuff to begin with. But I think it’s what behind the shield that some people find even more inspiring. Be proud of that too.”
The perfect shot was taken and you couldn’t but recall the quote I once saw a man so beautiful I started crying, because yeah, you could weep now. You quickly stood up and took few more pictures, because it was too good of an opportunity to pass up on.
“And look at you, turning into a model so easily when it comes to helping people, again,” you teased him lightly while being nothing but honest.
As at ease as he appeared now, you’d think he was doing this on a regular basis. As if you hadn’t been trying to coax out his true self out for everyone to see in a simple photo just a few minutes ago.
His hands found their way into the pockets of temporarily his jacket, gaze falling to the floor before his eyes locked onto yours, grateful and gentle.
“I’m pretty sure that’s all you. Thank you for being so patient with me. I thought this would remind me of the old days when I-” He hesitated, blue eyes lightly misted with doubt, so you beckoned for him to continue to speak freely. You’d got into some pretty deep stuff yourself just a moment ago after all. “-when I was a lab experiment to show off.”
You nodded in understanding, even if you couldn’t imagine what was it like; then again, in your early days, you had met enough parents who came to your atelier to show off their trophy children, so this wasn’t exactly a foreign concept.  
“Well, for what it’s worth, I’m sure that however you hated doing it, you were giving people hope back then too. And it’s not right to reduce person to a symbol, but symbols were and are important. As long as there are people who are able to see beyond the simplification, then I think it’s worth it. Then again, I never was anyone’s dancing monkey, so…” you shrugged, internally cringing at being such a blabbermouth, afraid that you came too far, put Steve off and that he would withdraw back to his shell.
But he didn’t. He gifted you a brilliant smile, one reaching his eyes.
“And all this?” you hummed, vaguely gesturing around, hoping he’d catch on. “I’m glad if you like the way I work, but the pictures? That’s not me, Steve, that’s you. And all I hope for is to show people a little bit more of you, throwing away the shield and letting them see that Steve Rogers is just as radiant.”
The intensity of his gaze now was enough to make your heart stop beating, his expression suddenly unreadable and you quickly covered your mouth, an apology already spilling from your lips.
“I’m so sorry if this made you uncomfortable and I turned into one of the fawning fangirls, that wasn’t my intention. You have to stop me when I get too much-“
“You’re didn’t and you don’t,” he smiled kindly and shook his head, appearing genuine. “I just never met anyone like you. And I mean that in the good way, just to be clear.”
You felt your face burn; because of your TMI talk and his compliment.
“T-thank you,” you stuttered out, causing his smile to turn radiant indeed.
He kept watching you, silent, eyes roaming your face, irises blue and intense—when had he got so close? Or did you walk to him? He was positively prettier upon closer inspection, all sharp edges to his jaw, lips calling out with how damn soft they would be, not to even mention his hair, and oh, was that a drop of green in his eyes? Oh wow, you could drown in that single drop, surrounded by the most enticing shade of blue and--- you closed your eyes and cleared your throat, trying your best to ignore the tingle in your fingertips and in your gut, pleasant warmth in your core-
“We, uhm, we should probably go back to work,” you whispered, licking your lips as you once again glanced at his and you swiftly spun on your heels, desperately trying to remember what shots you wanted to take next and if it was time for him to change already- oh god, you couldn’t possibly handle the thought of him losing clothes…
His expression dimmed a fraction, an epitome of slipping back into politeness. “Of course. Tell me how you need me… ma’am,” he teased, subtle quirk to his lips and you felt your cheeks burn hotter— but your breathing got easier as he was letting you know that you were still alright.
You had a half-mind to call him a soldier in the same manner, but you didn’t want him to slip into that persona.
“Oh, you have no idea what you signed up for, Steven.”
He chuckled, but followed you as you walked to the next scenery.

“What the hell, Rogers?!”
Tony’s voice reached Steve’s ears just as he entered the kitchen after his morning run and shower, his heart skipping a beat, his whole body instantly on alert; he wanted nothing but to spin on his heels and walk right back to where he came from.
Why?
You see, living in the Avengers Tower meant spending extended periods of time in Tony Stark’s company. Spending extended periods of time in Tony’s company meant that one would learn how to recognize certain situations; Steve could easily tell when the genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist had pulled an all-nighter in his lab, when he was in a long-term fight with Pepper, when he was annoyed, when he was delighted.
And this right here, the ‘What the hell, Rogers?’, that meant nothing good – certainly not for the guy in question. Tony seemed awfully exasperated and perplexed at some of Steve’s past actions probably, and that usually meant a lot of uncomfortable questions coming his way.
God help him.
Yet, he sighed and walked in, preferring to face his fate right away and go about his day as soon as possible.
“What did I do?”
“Jarvis, if you could, please,” Tony requested with a solemn expression, one of his thin holographic devices lighting up on the counter and instantly projecting several floating images as Steve walked closer.
Steve’s lips parted in surprise, shocked ‘oh’ escaping them as his heart was sent into frenzy.
Twenty images in total, photos of a blond man of Steve’s own body-built, clad in sportswear posing in every single one of them. His face was familiar too and yet somehow foreign; surely these couldn’t be real. There was no way Steve looked so confident and almost proud in some pictures, but mainly, appearing so comfortable in his skin.
Steve’s mind raced as he tried to associate the model with his own person and yet—he couldn’t but feel rather satisfied. Because this was most definitely him. And the photos were… well, not bad at all. Simultaneously, while his chest puffed with pride he desperately attempted not to let go into his head, he remembered precisely how these photos came to existence and who should totally take the credit here.
“That’s all you gonna say?! Oh?” Tony demanded, gesturing around the holograms as if these were corpus delicti of a serious offence and Steve was once again reminded of what Tony Stark was not; a patient man.
Steve felt a smile creep onto his lips as he shrugged.
“Oh, he says. You’re asking me what did you do?! THIS! If I knew you were a damn runaway model, I would have expected less fun than I did when imaging seeing you squirm! Look at this! These are way too good!”
Steve couldn’t disagree, mildly amused at Tony’s antics. In fact, he really was ridiculously content with the results of something he had dreaded and couldn’t have even hoped to turn out like this.
“…is that a bad thing?” he couldn’t but mock, earning an exasperated huff… and a smirk.
“Well… not, I guess. My little black heart is just… disappointed.”
Ah, yes. The heavily guarded secret – Tony Stark did have a heart and contrary to popular opinion, it was not little or black.
“No, it’s not.”
“Hush!” Tony shushed him, a twinkle appearing in his eye, amusement mixing with satisfaction. “But seriously. What the hell? Since when do you… pose? Like this? Like… wow.”
“Careful there, Stark, you’ll make him blush,” Natasha hummed as she entered the communal kitchen, checking out the flowing pictures with interest and a curve to her lips. “These are pretty great. You did well, Rogers.”
And all of sudden, Steve couldn’t handle the praise anymore; it had been fun with Tony, but now when Natasha joined in, swiftly followed by a wolf-whistle from Sam at her heels…  it felt wrong to brag about this, it wasn’t fair – he wasn’t the one who deserved to be given the majority of the merit.
“It’s… it wasn’t me, really…“ he admitted sheepishly.
And it wasn’t. It was all you.
Looking at the photos, he could tell what you were talking about when you pressed the shutter release for every single one of them. Painting the vivid image of the ocean just with your words. Calling him a hero in a way no one ever had. Pleading him to be proud of what he had accomplished. Making him feel those things, causing him to gradually gain confidence, feeling good in his own skin even when being at the centre of attention, encouraging him to suggest a pose on his own. Hell, Steve might go as far as to say that he had been having fun.
But it was all you.
“Looks a lot like you, man,” Sam chuckled and Steve would have shot him an annoyed glare hadn’t he been so embarrassed and self-conscious to admit who was to blame for the pictures turning out so great.
Because… yeah, Steve wasn’t vain or tried not to be, but these were pretty swell. You were a magician, you had to be. And he had fallen straight into the trap of your charms.
“Har har… the photographer was amazing. She made me feel-” He didn’t even know how to describe it without making himself look like a complete fool… for you. “-great. She was really supportive the whole time, sometimes even making me forget she was taking shots.”
“Alert!” Tony cried out all of sudden, nearly causing Steve to jump out of his skin. “I sense romance! How’s Cap heart, Jarvis? Has the security been breached? Should we run some scans-”
“Shut up, Tony,” Steve huffed in irritation, attempting to hide how precisely the billionaire hit the nail on its head.
“Awww, now he is blushing,” Natasha teased and Steve felt the heat in his cheeks burn.
“Well, luckily for him, there was a business card along with the printed photos that arrived this morning.”
Steve’s head immediately snapped Tony’s direction, curious and excited. You left a business card? That was—it probably didn’t mean anything along the lines he wished, but still!
The billionaire held out the simple creamy-coloured item between two fingers, but quickly snatched it away when Steve reached for it. Steve shot him a murderous glare. Dammit man-child!
“Full story or you’re not getting any, pun intended.”
“Oh, go to hell, Stark-”
“Come on, Stark. We all know he has some work ethics unlike you. Let him start a thing before you interrogate him. Plus, if he’s got a phone number from a hot girl for the free work he did, good for him. Give him the card,” Natasha supported the poor blond and Tony rolled his eyes before shooting the Widow a look of betrayal. Sam just chuckled at their antics. Steve snatched the card before they could change their mind, while Natasha smiled behind her cup. “We expect a full report later though.”
She exchanged a high-five with Sam under the bar, but Steve was too busy examining the card and having his heart beating incredibly fast to feel exasperated at his childish friends.
As he flipped the card in his fingers, he felt a wide smile spread his lips at their own accord.

I wanted to say that here pretty big questions - such as what actually makes a person or how much perfection love can take - are negotiated in a very light-footed, elegant and sometimes humorous way. In my experience that is a very German quality. At least I have often seen with many of my German colleagues and friends that they are very good at not discussing difficult issues exclusively deadly serious and melancholy.
Where does your personal connection to Germany and the German language come from?
My parents had friends who lived in Bielefeld and we used to visit them in North Rhine-Westphalia during the school holidays. Traveled from England by car! That’s how I learned a little German as a child, and later I learned it as a subject at school. I even did a short internship there through our friends in Bielefeld. I really love the language. Funnily enough, I was later able to use my knowledge of German professionally, because my first film was “Hilde”, in which I was next to Heike Makatsch played the British actor and director David Cameron, who was married to Hildegard Knef. After that, I always hoped that there might be another chance to speak German in front of the camera, because playing in a foreign language is an exciting challenge. When the chance arose to shoot “I am your person”, I could hardly believe my luck.
Did you know the director Maria Schrader who gave you this chance?
Funnily enough, when the script for the film landed on my table, I had just watched the Netflix series “Unorthodox”, which she directed. I had also watched a few episodes of “Deutschland 89”. In general, I knew that she was a great German actress, not least because friends who knew their way around the German theater scene often raved about her. Working with her was a joy now. Her understanding of actors is quite instinctive and brilliant. I have seldom seen someone who can help an actor who is having difficulties with a scene with such simple means.
The fact that you had already seen “Unorthodox” shows, of course, how quickly “I am your person” must have been implemented in the past year …
Oh yes, that was really quick. In March I was still in New York and was about to premiere a new play on Broadway. But then the pandemic came, everything was canceled and I flew back to my family in Los Angeles. A few weeks later, Maria and I met each other via Zoom - and shortly afterwards I was sitting outside in a café in the Berlin June sun for the first time in months to discuss the upcoming shoot with her. That was pretty surreal because I hadn’t actually left the house since March.
Is it correct that you oriented yourself to Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart to portray the romantically programmed robot Tom?
In any case, these were role models that Maria and I spoke about. When you think of the game between the two of them, you always see an enormous clarity and directness. Cary Grant, for example, was always quite funny, especially in his romantic roles, but also flawless in an almost artificial way from today’s perspective. I found that very suitable for a robot. Apart from the fact that the ideas that Tom and his algorithm have of romance and love are certainly also shaped by the classic romantic comedies from Hollywood. Oh, the woman is sad, so I’ll bring her flowers! Such automatisms from the stories from back then were very appropriate for Tom now.
Keyword role models: Who shaped you in your career as an actor?
There were of course many. Jimmy Stewart was certainly something of a role model. My mom and I watched a lot of his films when I was little and I was always impressed by the kind of sweet tragedy that went into all of his roles. But maybe Robin Williams’ work influenced me even more. I always found the incredible variety of his films remarkable. He could make his audience laugh hysterically like no other, but also move them to tears in other roles. I always wanted to emulate this range.
In fact, the range of your roles is enormous and ranges from the Disney blockbuster “Beauty and the Beast” to a comic adaptation in series format such as “Legion” to bulky independent films such as “Her Smell” or the horror thriller “The Rental “, Which we just released on DVD. Is there a method behind this diversity?
Not in principle. I like variety, but I’m not just looking for roles that are as different as possible from one another. Rather, there are always similar factors that I use to select my projects. Sometimes there is a certain director that I really want to work with. Or the role itself is irresistible because it presents me with acting challenges. And sometimes a script is just fantastically written and I am interested in the topics it is about. With “I am your person” it was definitely the latter, especially since the timing was just right. In 2020 there were so many societal questions that ultimately touched the core of human existence. Such a script, which deals with something very similar in a light-footed way, was just fitting.
A few years ago you said in a questionnaire from the British Guardians that your greatest weakness was not being able to make up your mind. So every time you are offered a role, do you ponder whether you should accept?
No, no, when a script appeals to me, it actually does it very quickly. It’s such a gut feeling. If I’m unsure and skeptical, that’s a good indicator that this is not the right thing for me. That with the difficulty in making decisions related rather to something else. For example, it takes me forever to order in a restaurant because I can never decide what on the menu appeals to me the most.
You became famous with the role of Matthew Crawley in the series "Downton Abbey”. Did you immediately suspect at the time that something big was going on?
At first we were all pretty clueless. There are really many British history series, and we were one of them. When the first season aired in the US and was a huge success there, it was pretty unexpected. I never expected the impact the series would have on my career.
Barely ten years later, are you still being asked about the role?
Oh yes, regularly. Probably nothing will change about that either. I got out after three seasons!
In the meantime, however, the flamboyant Russian singer Alexander Lemtov from “Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga” should also be a character with whom you will be immediately associated, right?
Right, it has been mentioned more and more recently when people recognize me on the street. This charming, silly film obviously had a nerve with the audience last year in the middle of the corona pandemic. Especially since the real Eurovision Song Contest had been canceled.
The film was the number one topic of conversation on the Internet for a while - and Lemtov GIFs and memes were everywhere. Did you follow that?
It was really hard to avoid it. I wasn’t looking specifically for what people were posting. But of course my friends passed a lot on to me, and there were already some very funny Lemtov things. But he’s also a figure made for GIFs.
Another question every British actor under 40 has to put up with these days: Would you like to become the next James Bond?
Oh, of course, everyone gets to hear this question again and again who meets certain criteria. But it is completely hypothetical. Although a few years ago I read in an audio book by Ian Fleming’s “Casino Royale”.
You mentioned earlier that you and your family have lived in the United States for a long time. How big is your homesickness?
I actually feel very comfortable in Los Angeles. But every now and then I miss the sidewalk culture of European cities. People on foot, street cafes, things like that. Last year the longing for it was particularly great, although it was of course clear to me that there was a state of emergency in Europe too. In any case, I found myself reading books that were set in Europe and made me homesick. Which is why the unexpected trip to Berlin was really a boon.
You are also an avid cricketer. That’s certainly difficult in Los Angeles, isn’t it?
There are quite a few cricket clubs here. The only problem is that the few people who do the sport here are so good at it that I have problems keeping up. That’s why I always lose sight of the matter here a little. Even as a pure TV viewer, it is not easy to stay on the ball, because of course there is no cricket broadcast here at prime time. But as soon as I’m home in England in the summer, I really want to play again!

reading update
happy gay month y'all!!
my book blogging this month has mostly consisted of my increasingly lengthy list of recommendations for queer books that aren't YA, but now it's time to check in and see what the fuck I've actually been reading since last time.
my unintentional streak of not reading any books authored solely by men is pretty much dead in the dust, and that's fine by me - the book I've been reading have been worth it. although there still hasn't been anything authored solely by a cishet white man, which has to count for something.
so!! what have I been reading?
Living A Feminist Life (Sara Ahmed) - a delightful return to reading theory, something I'm hoping to get back in the habit of. Ahmed is sharp, insightful, and delightfully angry; I could hardly get through a chapter without having to take a picture of something brilliant she'd written and sending it to a friend to discuss. it offered some especially keen insights into my own frequently infuriating work within a university, which I'll be thinking about for a long time to come.
Sorrowland (Rivers Solomon) - if I had a nickel for every time I'd read a book where racist medical experimentation and unusual fungus are key plot points I'd had two nickels. which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it's happened twice! I have to say that I like Sorrowland a lot more than Mexican Gothic - because there's anything wrong with MG, which is fun pulpy horror, but Sorrowland's tone and style are a lot more of what I like in my fiction. it's pragmatic and gritty in a way that reminds me very positively of Butler's Parable duology, but it's moments of warmth and human connection keep it from ever getting too relentlessly bleak.
Phoenix Extravagant (Yoon Ha Lee) - this has been on my to-read list for a hot minute, and felt like a nice palace cleanser after Sorrowland. Phoenix Extravagant isn't a perfect novel - it feels a little rushed in some places, a little incomplete in others, like another round of revision might have tightened things up - but it is an enjoyable and engrossing one, and sometimes a good time is all you need from a novel. I do really like the culture Lee built and the way he used it to explore colonization, complacency, and assimilation, as well as the way magic was casually woven into society. and, of course, we love to see a they/them protagonist winning!
The Every Body Book (Rachel E. Simon) - a really excellent illustrated book to help introduce kiddos to conversations about changing bodies, where babies come from, and the great diversity of sexual orientations and genders in the world. I'll absolutely be acquiring a copy to use with my own classes, and I'd definitely recommend it to any parent, guardian, teacher, or cool older relative who wants to be able to break down big ideas in ways that are accessible to young 'uns.
Crush (Richard Siken) - for a long time I've assumed people must be overstating how absolutely feral they go for Siken's poetry, but honestly? I get it. every poem read like a bruise I couldn't stop poking in spite of the pain, like the exhausting early hours of a tedious road trip to nowhere, like the thumping ache of a heart about to burst with longing and hurt. this shit was evocative for me in a way I didn't know poetry could me. bravo
Dear Senthuran: A Black Spirit Memoir (Akwaeke Emezi) - the second arrival of hot book summer, and my GOD is it a doozy! this book is beautiful in all of its shining pain, and makes my brain feel like it has fireworks going off inside of it. I don't think it's an exaggeration in the slightest to say that Emezi is going to be creating some of the most breathtaking literature of the 2020s, and I will eagerly line up for everything they are gracious enough to share with us humans.
what am I reading now? (and by "reading now" I mean, "going to pick up at work tomorrow.")
The First Ten Years: Two Sides of the Same Love Story (Meg Bashwiner and Jeffrey Fink) - honestly I was hoping to really focus on fiction for a bit when I finished Dear Senthuran, but I don't get to pick when the holds become available, so let's go! hot book summer!
The Jasmine Throne (Tasha Suri) - I feel like I've been waiting YEARS to get my teeth into this one, and I couldn't be more excited. I'm also looking forward to circle back and finish up a few other epic fantasy series while I wait for the sequels, namely S.A. Charaborty's Daevabad trilogy and Seth Dickinson's Masquerade series.

Top 10 films of 2019
Here’s my very belated top 10 films of 2019! Note that this is a list of films that were released in the UK theatrically in 2019, meaning it includes certain releases that would be considered to belong to 2018 by others.
Honourable mentions: Joker, Hustlers, Booksmart, A Private War, Fighting With My Family
(And don’t worry - Little Women, 1917 and Uncut Gems are all already on my list for 2020.)

With that out of the way, here’s my list (in ascending order)! Do share your picks in the comments!
10. The Irishman (dir. Martin Scorsese)

This is clearly the work of a master filmmaker with much on his mind. In telling the story of Frank Sheeran, Scorsese is telling the story of a man who makes his trade in violence. Instead of elevating Frank as a hero or a figure of glamour, he’s consistently shown to be rather pathetic. He stumbles into the role of hitman for various factions of the criminal underworld, and sticks to it seemingly because it’s what comes most easily to him. The violence enacted by Sheeran is inane and routine, with no thought given to the personal cost until it is far too late. The final 15 minutes of this film show a life petering out with a whimper, laying bare the indignities of old age and the cold, empty horror of enduring it with no company besides your own regrets. The Irishman is a portrait of a life lived badly, and in the hands of anyone besides Scorsese it could have been dry and tedious. Instead, the filmmaking is incredibly assured and the editing is whip-sharp (in Thelma Schoonmaker we trust), making it a pleasure to watch even with the lengthy runtime. 
9. The Farewell (dir. Lulu Wang)

The Farewell is a personal story about a young Asian-American woman (Awkwafina) struggling to reconcile her heritage with her current situation and values - specifically, she is tested when her grandmother is diagnosed with cancer and the wider family make the decision to hide the truth from her. The Farewell does a fantastic job of generating empathy for all the different perspectives and positions in play, but it’s truly anchored by Awkwafina’s amazingly nuanced and tender performance - basically, anyone who’s ever loved a grandparent should leave this feeling incredibly moved and inspired. The themes of The Farewell are both specific to the Asian-American experience and general to anyone who has struggled with maintaining bonds over a vast distance, whether physical or cultural. Lulu Wang is an exciting new voice in cinema, and I will watch her career with great interest.           
8. Pain & Glory (dir. Pedro Almodóvar)

Almodóvar is one of my favourite filmmakers, and one of the reasons I love his work so much is its wild diversity. My favourite from him is The Skin I Live In, a film that could not be more different than Pain & Glory. This is a small, very personal film telling the story of a middle-aged director (Banderas, clearly playing a version of  Almodóvar himself) who’s struggling with his legacy as a filmmaker and the increasing privations attached to middle age. Suffering in the present, Salvador finds himself retreating into memories of his childhood - particularly of his mother (Penelope Cruz) and his first crush. The childhood sequences were where the film really sung for me, perfectly capturing the sun-dappled glow of reminiscences of childhood. And the ending, where  Almodóvar truly shows his hand, is delightfully mischievous and the perfect cap on this very personal picture.
7. Once Upon a Time in ... Hollywood (dir. Quentin Tarantino)

This is a slice of life movie, but while that might call to mind ‘kitchen sink’ dramas, this is unabashedly a ‘slice of life’ movie about Hollywood and the mythology that has developed around it. It’s meandering and feels rather aimless for the bulk of its runtime, but that’s kind of the point. It’s exactly what the title promises in that it recaptures what life was like in a very specific time and in a very specific place - it’s an idealised, loving depiction of the Hollywood of the time, with the movie stars, flawed and fading as they are, cast as heroes menaced by the drugged-up hippies poised to dismantle the status quo. It ends in the fashion you’d expect from Tarantino, but here I found his revisionist approach to history remarkably poignant and effective. Film is a magic medium, with Hollywood serving as the ultimate dream factory - it feels completely right that Tarantino would attempt to use celluloid to right one of the great tragedies of Hollywood history.
6. One Cut of the Dead (dir. Shinichirou Ueda)

I went into this with no expectations whatsoever - and what a treat it was! One Cut of the Dead is easily one of the funniest movies I’ve seen in years, taking what initially seems like a trite concept (a crew is filming a zombie movie at a desolate location ... only to discover that the zombies are real!) and twisting it in a truly ingenious way. The comedy is very broad, but it is consistently delightful and always manages to avoid becoming crass - the movie even has some really sweet family dynamics at the centre of it, which gives it some real emotional heft. The success of this film is heavily reliant on a major twist that occurs part-way through, so the best advice I can give you is to stay as far away from spoilers for this one as possible - go in blind, and you will be amply rewarded for your faith.
5. Midsommar (dir. Ari Aster)

I went into this film with reservations, since I wasn’t a huge fan of Hereditary (by the same director), which I found to have extraordinary moments but iffy execution overall. This movie, however, wowed me. While marketed as a freaky/arty horror film, the director has described it as a fairy tale, which is the level on which is spoke to me. Midsommar follows Dani (an incredible Florence Pugh), a young woman who has suffered a terrible loss, as she travels with her boyfriend and his friends to a pagan festival in the Swedish countryside. Dani is painfully isolated, and her grief is hers to shoulder alone since her boyfriend is un-receptive and entirely unprepared to help her. Over the course of the film, destruction and creation are conflated in ways that are both beautiful and horrific - this film spoke to me on a profound level, and the way it ended gave me an incredible sense of catharsis. This won’t be for everyone, for I found it to be a deeply special film. Let’s all raise a toast to the imminent, and much welcome, reign of Florence Pugh.
4. Parasite (dir. Bong Joon-Ho)

Parasite is that rare film that more than lives up to the massive hype surrounding it (you don’t get more hyped than winning Best Picture at the Academy Awards!). It’s hard to write about this film without spoilers, since so much of the joy of Parasite lies in discovering what the hell is going on. This is an ‘upstairs downstairs’ movie for the 21st century, where the downstairs people have fierce designs on the lives and pleasures enjoyed by their social superiors. The rich people here are not vilified, though they are depicted as vapid and shallow, perpetually searching for new ways to fill their lives with meaning. Their struggling counterparts from the rough side of the city are struggling only to get by - their lives too hard to allow time for such indulgences. This is a film about the fantasy of social advancement, and the power that dreams have to hold us in thrall to hopeless ambitions. It’s masterfully directed, acted and designed, and it has been extremely gratifying to see it receive such widespread recognition.
3. Marriage Story (dir. Noah Baumbach)

I was always going to see this (hey Adam Driver!) but I was entirely unprepared for how great Marriage Story was. Easily Baumbach’s best film, Marriage Story is a masterclass in acting and character writing - it’s fiercely intelligent in how it constantly forces you to reassess what you’re seeing and where your sympathies lie. Does Charlie seem like an oblivious, navel-gazing asshole? Sure, but he’s also confused and vulnerable and thrown entirely off balance by his awakening consciousness of his wife’s dreams and ambitions. Nicole is self-effacing and self-denying, as so many women are, which makes her emerging confidence and newfound sense of direction incredibly satisfying to witness. In the second half of Marriage Story, Driver’s Charlie undoubtedly takes the spotlight - it’s clear to me that he becomes the focus largely because he continues to flounder as Nicole finds her footing. Baumbach, wisely I feel, is most interested in his characters when they’re lost, struggling to be better but barely understanding what that means. Even if you don’t sympathise with Charlie by the end of Marriage Story, I can promise you will come away with a thorough understanding of him thanks to Driver’s extraordinary performance. Superlative work, all round. (It’s also, just for the record, the only film of 2019 to make me cry.)
2. Portrait of a Lady on Fire (dir. Céline Sciamma)

This is the 2019 film I am most excited to see again (it’s coming out in a week in the UK - I’m so excited!). Sciamma’s film is an incredibly moving and deeply beautiful love story, depicting how a female artist in 18th century France falls in love with the woman she has been covertly employed to paint. Portrait is very much a film about the act of looking, and in many ways it’s the ultimate female gaze film - it’s all about women looking at women, as depicted by a female filmmaker. Gazes are political as much as they’re romantic - here, our two heroines drink each other, aware of exactly how dangerous and forbidden their mutual intoxication is. The woozy thrall of their relationship is exquisitely conveyed through the cinematography and direction, and the final shot - which I won’t spoil - is an all-timer that serves as an exquisite coda to the entire film. This is a truly superb film, and I’m still incensed that it received no substantial awards recognition. Let’s hope it goes down in film history as the masterpiece it is, yet another omission proving the limitations of the Oscars as a metric for great art.
1. The Favourite (dir.  Yorgos Lanthimos)

This completely wowed me, and against all the odds it stuck with me as the best film I saw in 2019 - it features a trio of magnificently compelling female characters (played by Olivia Colman, Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone) operating at the court of Queen Anne (Colman is Anne, Weisz and Stone are courtiers), and is laser-focused on the shifting sands of the power dynamics between them. The script is savage without sacrificing poignancy, witty without ceasing to be emotionally honest. And while I’ve seen some react to this film as a comedy (and it certainly has laughs, most of which are tightly packaged with shock), for me it was very clearly a drama about the inscrutable and complicated relationships that exist between women. Specifically, it is about how those relationships run the gamut from sincere affinity to ruthless manipulation. This is a spectacular movie, visually and thematically rich in every frame, and it also has the best use of an Elton John song in 2019 (sorry, Rocketman!).
Fly away, skyline pigeon fly, towards the things you’ve left so very, so very far, behind.

Inspired by your recently posted Continuum story and if you still do the event: It ended with Q thinking, he will find out about the others secrets. So what if, in a positive turn of events, he does find them out and can blackmail himself to the top of the proverbial food chain of the Qs. Now he can do whatever he wants without any stupid council telling him no. Picard is torn between feeling glad for Q or unsure about one of the most morally gray beings he knows gaining absolute power.
Oh, excellent. Love a good follow-up! ^_^ Allow me to reward this wonderful ask with something rather different and a little longer than usual, though it may have to avoid our positivity tag just this once…

Seven o’clock creeps up on Jean-Luc Picard as though through treacle, slow, heavy and plodding; the problem with deep space, he’s been musing since morning, is that everything is so desperately far away, and inevitably, there are days where little of merit can be accomplished until they’re where they ought to be. With a sigh of something suspiciously like relief, he heads from the ready room and his sixth tea of the day to meet his First, deeply glad to leave the trail of electronic paperwork behind.
“Long day, sir?” Riker asks conversationally, though the question is rather rhetorical; he imagines the weariness will be etched into his features, plain for all to witness. Inactivity has never really suited him for any length of time, and this is their second day in a row of simply ‘boldly going’.
“At least we’re only several hours away from Deep Space Eleven,” he replies simply, expression quirking into reassurance. “Can’t imagine you’re faring any better.”
Riker’s lips twist into a warm grin. “Well, at least holodeck two’s been mostly free. You’re relieved, Captain.”
“Oh, you have no idea,” comes the dry riposte, the grateful smile. “Safe travels, Number One.”
“Is that an order, sir? I could really go for a battle fleet right about now.”
Amusement creeps into a smirk, head shaking.
“Yes,” he answers wryly as the turbolift doors slide shut. “Deck nine, officer’s quarters.”
Safe from prying eyes, Picard lets out a lengthy sigh; he’d always been more tolerant of steadiness before Q’s continued presence in his personal life, acknowledging it as something to merely accept as a drawback to the job he adored, but forty-nine entire hours of tedium had left him almost wishing he could snap them to their destination himself.
Well, at least he could finally sink his teeth into some delightful diplomacy tomorrow - and in the meantime, perhaps the god could whisk them off somewhere wondrous, full of exploration and academic curiosities to sate… though he’d seemed uncharacteristically distracted recently, and unusually unwilling to discuss the reasons.
An ancient city, perchance, he ponders quietly as he makes his way down hallways. Interesting enough to avoid eye contact, quiet enough to speak your mind.
He smiles, keying in his code on autopilot, and as the door opens to simple, vividly white nothingness, all hope of solving the enigma easily fades into the ether of his quarters. It’s uncomfortably familiar, and he’d rather thought they’d moved past such things…
“Q?” He questions softly, stepping in with a series of rapid blinks, beginning to simply wander for lack of a clear path. “Q, why on earth are we back here?”
“Earth, dear? Oh, hardly.”
His brow creases as he finds him, and the prickles race higher up his spine; it’s almost identical, down to his lover’s white robes, the metaphorical distance between them painfully obvious.
To hell with this, he thinks furiously, wasting no time in closing the symbolic gap; there aren’t realms between them now, simply things not yet disclosed, and his hand claims his lover’s in silent acknowledgement.
“What is this, Q?” He urges, grey gaze earnest. “Are you alright?”
Grasped fingers tremble then tighten, free hand flung out to the void.
“You see this, Jean-Luc? It’s mine.”
Something distinctly unpleasant splinters through the captain’s very being. “Yours?”
“Yes.”
“I don’t -” Picard swallows, almost dreading the response. “What does that mean, mon dieu?”
“Oh, whatever I feel like, really,” Q answers cryptically, unnervingly blank for a being usually so theatrical. “What do you think it should mean, mon capitaine - this, perhaps?”
He clicks sharply, and the void shifts instantly to space, pure black and twinkling.
“Or even this.”
Another snap sends them into chaos, swirls of brightly coloured gas spiralling madly around them, and every inch the commanding officer, Picard abandons his astonishment, frantically clasping his other hand in a pointless effort to cease his whims.
“Q!” He states firmly. “That’s enough!”
Disturbingly neutral eyes blaze with the scope of the universe; fire and stoicism, the ultimate parallel. “I don’t need to click, Jean-Luc.”
I know you don’t, but what else am I supposed to - he silences his inner desperation, focuses down. 
“Tell me what’s wrong, dear,” he demands gently. “Please.”
Kindness is all it takes to strip down shields, both clasped hands squeezed almost to the point of pain as a shadow steals over omniscient vision.
“They threatened you.” His voice trembles. “Just before Utirion, they were keeping something secret…”
They’re back to the starkness of white in a blink, though the captain barely notices, too locked to those wondrous eyes, the unfolding, pained narrative.
“I found out, Jean-Luc. Oh, they can misdirect all they like, of course, but the right application of blackmail works wonders.” The faintest of smiles half-raises a lip. “And my son can’t lie to save his own omnipotence. It was written all over his vaguely ionised being.”
“Threatened me?” Picard repeats, desperate for full clarity, and the darkness only seeps further into an anguished deity.
“Oh, only for a moment.” He sets, rigid, livid. “More than long enough.”
An understanding shivers between them for a protracted moment.
“So, you -”
“Made sure it wouldn’t happen again.”
Picard curses himself for the shudder that braces across his shoulders; there was nothing to fear from this entity, he’d long since known that intimately, but that phrasing -
“How?”
A frown etches into an ancient expression for a second, distressed at the clear horror in his beloved human. “I didn’t kill them, I assure you. Oh, I was almost angry enough, but - well, I’ve learned from the best. Billions of years of acquaintance rather familiarises one with weak spots.”
Picard’s mind whirs as he slots together pieces of a bankrupt jigsaw, eyes widening.
“So this, the void, space, is truly - mon dieu -”
“Capital D,” Q expresses, brow quirking. “King of the proverbial hill, Jean-Luc. Captain of the starship Continuum.”
He glances pointedly down at his robes, and Picard balks, spontaneously letting go of hands.
“You are not God!”
His lover’s features flicker in recognition, almost entertained. “I wasn’t, then.”
Picard reels, stepping away, struggling to process the magnitude of what such a concept could mean; he’d always accepted the wealth of power that stood insurmountably between them, but one thing needles at him above all others, a nasty, clawing anguish he can barely describe before the words burst forth.
“… And you did all this for me? To keep me safe?”
Confusion claims the all-powerful entity, stare shining. “And I’ll do it over and over again, if I have to. Didn’t you know that, darling?”
A soft, strangled cry tears itself from Picard, dashing back solely to tightly embrace him.
“You can’t do that!” He protests furiously against a robed chest, even as arms encircle him fiercely. “This isn’t healthy -”
“Less of your human morality, thank you,” Q scolds quietly, eyes falling closed as he drops a kiss to his captain’s skull with a gentle shiver. “I’m reliably informed that homelessness is desperately bad for the soul, Jean-Luc.” 
Tearful eyes meet his, divided almost perfectly by outrage and despair. “I’m not worth this, you fool.”
A head shakes in pure exasperation, expression almost unfathomably tender.
“Au contraire, mon capitaine,” he whispers, and they hover in an extended breath, fractured and ironically whole in perfect harmony.
“Now what?” Rises a deceptively simple question from his beloved, and the ashes of bitterness sweep across Q’s lips, crease into his face as he stares into eyes that believe he’s ultimately capable of using his absolute power for kindness.
It’s enough, he acknowledges silently. It’s always been enough, that belief; it doesn’t require further proof over time.
“Oh, now?” A finger runs up a cheek, smile warm. No regrets, Q. “An ancient city, perhaps… well, at least after you wake up.”
Picard’s gone in an instant after a tender touch to his temple, and God swallows fire.
Jean-Luc Picard has more than enough to deal with. He doesn’t need the burden of knowing the lengths a homeless, frightened entity will go for him, however many times he must.

“Can’t say I’m not mildly offended. Infinite scope of time presented permanently to me, mon capitaine; I run ten minutes late in an exceedingly rare instance of miscalculation, and you fall asleep on me.”
A familiar voice permeates his consciousness, rouses him from a deliciously restful slumber; he blinks, briefly confused, and meets an amused gaze.
“I…” Since when had he ever come back to his quarters and instantly drifted off? “I was asleep?”
“The light was well and truly out, my dear,” Q assures him, eyebrow hitching. “Dull day at the office, I take it?”
He thinks of their seemingly endless trek to Deep Space Eleven and wrinkles his nose just slightly. “Rather, yes. Ought to have asked you for a lift.”
“Indeed,” Q murmurs, gaze piercing. “I’d have done it, too. I’d do anything for you, dear - do hope you know that. Capital of Tenhaglion, then? Rather delightful four millennia ago.”
He offers him a hand, and something in Picard pauses for a long moment as he meets the rich bronze of eternity, the absolute tenderness that resides there, that flashes with the most heated warmth and desperate trust.
… There’s something decidedly different about him today, he acknowledges to himself as he accepts the help, gifts him a bright smile. He’ll have to ask him about it later.

[Event Start]
Days had passed since the start of the civil war and the weight of it all seemed to bear down upon the members of house Emberheart. Dark rings could be seen beneath the eyes of Solendis and his son Stenden. Sleep did not come easy for either of them. One, worrying about the life of his son, the other, worrying about the lives of his people. The Lord and his Steward both did what they thought was best, but so far, had nothing to show for it apart from the coalition that gathered before them.
Judereth and Relriah had both opted to stay on the frontlines with the other officers at the head of their militiamen. Keeping up the fight against Illithia as they gained ground from their initial winnings. Zarannis too had decided to stay on a frontline of her own, keeping an eye and ear on Mediea Wintergale, and speaking with her sister Illsei. She believed that decisions moving forward were left to those ready to make them and as the party gathered in the War-Room the unfolding of what was to come would soon become clear.
[Banter]
Thanidiel spends a long, long, drawn-out moment staring at Beathyn particularly. Then to Renalays. Then to Beathyn. Just Beathyn. Her long platinum brows entrench in the polar opposite of 'pleasure.'
Kebha is about as focused as she's ever going to be, which is not a lot. Her ear flicks as Thanidiel edges closer.
Lirelle looks between Renalays and the woman on the opposite side of her. She looks askance at Thanidiel briefly before turning to the inquisitor. "What are you doing here?"
Thanidiel definitely seems to prefer the Illidari over the -Inquisitor.-
Ethalarian sits with his arms folded over his chest, leaned back in his chair with his feet propped up on the table like the uncouth dirt farmer he is.
Stenden looks across the table to all the officers who came today. The rest were seeing to their troops at the front no doubt. "Thank you all for coming." The boy gestured to the walls where briefings and reports on the major players in the conflict. "If you need to get up to speed, especially for the new comers, feel free to have a gander." He said, in reference to the Inquisitor and the Illidari who both seemed to cause tension with their very existence in the war room.
Vissehn yawns and scratches under his arm, looking unkempt and delightfully uncouth. He waves to the others, before listening to Stenden with the fullness of his short attention span.
Kebha seems to be absolutely oblivious to this tension- but then, she also doesn't see a problem with her eating habits. She instead chooses to bounce on her heels, 'looking' down the table at the assembled lot.
Vissehn:"Oi, hail scary Inquisitor lady. Eat any babies t'day?"
Renalays:"Sir Valcinder -humbly- requested my presence here on behalf of the Lord Emberheart here. Not that it has been an inconvenience; the Inquisitors have been... sorting the Kingdom province by province, as it were."
"Are you offering?"
Vissehn makes a show of warding off danger, feigning a stricken look.
[Planning Starts Proper, Summary of Turn 1]
Solendis:"So now that we're all gathered: Goodember is in our custody. The frontline against his realm of Shalemarch is holding for now. The Illithian front has gone well thanks to your efforts- And House Wintergale has, just last night, declare their loyalty and support."
Thanidiel:"I assume Fish saved the day in the Cloudrend Glades?" That's a veiled insult.
Lirelle:"Hm. Wasn't aware you knew each other."
Thanidiel:"Don't."
Renalays:"Are you ashamed of your service, Phoenix Guard Highdawn? No matter - this is not the time to coddle or press egos."
Beathyn clears his throat loudly and dramatically, attempting to keep some ensemble of order on Solendis' behalf. "As per our agreement that we came to," he gestures towards the compatriots of the diplomatic team of Vissehn and Renalays. "He will be providing us verbal support and access through the Cloudrend Glades. He won't however, be providing soldiers for the war effort unless he is attacked by House Illithia directly."
Isilos raises an eyebrow at the mention of his Nephew's organization before slienlly returning to the table and ignoring the rabble.
Lirelle squints at this weird shared history. Right.
Thanidiel stares at the Inquisitor for a steady moment - the vile burning bright in her felfire eye before she huffs and focuses on the report. "That's good," she can -at least- claim.
Thanidiel:"It would be harder if we had to drag him by his ancient ear from skirmish to skirmish."
Stenden:"Going by how old he is, that ear might come off."
Thanidiel:"Withdrawing support whenever things bothered him again would have struck the morale."
Lirelle:"It saves us the trouble of having one last player to deal with after this is over. As long as he keeps his word."
Kebha loses interest in the table, and retreats to crouch on those lovely chairs right there like some kind of weird, folded gremlin. She can hear just fine from here thanks.
Solendis gave his son a LOOK. Which chided him back to a more official tone.
Vissehn:"He's piss-scared of throwin' lots. Wants to be independent an' his own entity."
Vissehn shoots a look to Solendis, and murmurs to Stenden.
Ethalarian 's eyes flick back and forth between Renalays and Thanidiel, but he doesn't seem interested in saying or doing much. Above his paygrade, probably.
From Vissehn: "Might rip off half his face wivit, yeah? He'd look a right horror, like from Northrend."
Renalays:"Exactly. Complacency is what we need from your people. Not a... tenuous simulation of it."
[Wintergale gives nominal support]
Stenden folded his arms. "So, what should we do about this development. Before we move on to... Other affairs that need dealing with." Stenden looked to the military minds at the table.
Esheyn also chooses not to get involved in... any of that. She folds her arms across her chest, listening silently.
Lirelle:"Zarannis will keep him in line, one way or another. There are other things more important for now."
Oosaarn released a frosted breath into the air with a snort. "Don't suppose they would simply follow whoever kills their leader."
Beathyn flings his arms into the air at Oosaarn's comment. "That's what I kept saying!"
Renalays:"Inefficient."
Beathyn gives a look at Renalays.
Oosaarn:"It's the only way Warsong decide who's right."
Renalays:"The Sin'dorei do not rally as easily as the other cultures of the Horde."
Kebha perks up at that- that was what she was good at. The killing thing. The talking thing, not so much.
Renalays:"They would spend weeks, if not months, fixing together all of their pieces into a different puzzle with different names."
Ethalarian exhales a long sigh through his nose.
Renalays:"Less energy dedicated to -killing.-"
Oosaarn:"Just saying. The other person can't win the argument if they can't argue."
Vissehn jerks a thumb towards Renalays. "His death can wait til the present unpleasantness is done."
Solendis:"So, logically speaking. We could start up a Western front against Illithia. Only real question is, how much ought we invest into this- and does the Coalition wish to be part of it- Rather than continuing to advance as they are now against the more defensible frontlne."
Thanidiel:"A token force would demonstrate 'allyship' between Wintergale and Emberheart."
"Otherwise, I doubt Illithia has interest in traversing the Cloudrend Glades either."
Stenden tapped his finger on the map. "So, a token force. Diversion perhaps to draw numbers away from the east?"
Thanidiel:"Possibly. It's easy to feign numbers."
Thanidiel:"Tie branches to the horses' tails, burn more fires than there are squadrons every night. Yes?"
Lirelle:"If you intend to create a diversion, you still send -enough- men to handle being a diversion."
Renalays gestures her gloved hand in Thanidiel's direction. For both seeming to -dislike- each other, they're almost speaking like two halves of the same weapon.
[Muroco offers Rockhoof Guerilla Warfare.]
Muroco:"I can act as a diversion."
Thanidiel:"Honestly I like that."
Oosaarn:"I would like to see the Grimtotem acting like a diversion."
Stenden looks at Muroco. "I'm listening." His ears perked up at the sound of that.
Thanidiel:"He counts for thirty of your ill-fed Northerners."
Lirelle:"That is honestly not a terrible idea."
Muroco bangs his fist on Mammoth with a resounding thud. "Your locals aren't used to seeing someone like me, and they haven't seen Grimtotem tactics before."
Ethalarian arches a brow in the big Tauren's direction. "I didn't realize smashing everything in sight to a pulp was tactics." He scratches at his chin. "It works for you, though."
From Lirelle: you could do an event for mark when hes got free time since he's not around as much
Thanidiel:"Grimtotem are quite known for guerrilla warfare amongst the Shu'Halo."
Oosaarn:"It's called psychological warfare."
Muroco:"They're going to smash themselves into a pulp against me."
Oosaarn:"And also regular warfare."
Stenden:"It'll spread our forces more thin, but if you believe you can do so, I can give you one division of troops for support. If you can instruct them- I am certain they will be very useful to you."
From Lirelle: or he can write a story cause he's really good with those, you can talk with him imo
Kebha nods in the background. "The big one is good."
Muroco is now a leader of fledgling guerilla fighters to-be.
[The Fate of Nelio Goodember]
Stenden turns their attention back to the front. "So. Now onto the other matter at hand. Nelio Goodember."
Renalays:"Ah, you have contained the fat bastard?"
Oosaarn:"Horrible name."
Renalays:"His petition records at the Magistrate annoy me."
Kebha subtly perks up, resting her cheek in a clawed hand and looking like she might actually be paying attention.
Vissehn beamed. "I dangled him off a balcony!"
Nelio Goodember is dragged into the room, bound, but not gagged. "UNHAND ME!" he screeches as he gets shoved onwards into the corner of the war room.
Renalays:"Did you break your wrist in the process or did your youthful years prepare you for that?"
"Hello there, Lord Goodember."
Lirelle:"Oh for fucks sake. Who thought it was a good idea to drag him in here?"
Vissehn laughs at Renalays, brows waggling at her.
Kebha literally hisses at the loud bastard.
Oosaarn:"You're surrounded by enemies. And at least half of us don't so much as blink at the idea of removing someone's head. Best to keep a silver tongue."

Thanidiel:"What the orc said. Shut your jowls."
Solendis gives a wry smile. "My idea, I think it was best to let him listen to his fate as he's decided- and to plead his case accordingly." He walks up to Nelio. "Hello friend."
Lirelle sighs. Fucking diplomats man.
Ethalarian glances up and leans forward to take a peek around Esheyn at the bicc boi currently dragged into the room. He grunts and then goes back to being a grouch and leaning back. Exactly what he figured one of these northerners to look like.
Nelio Goodember pouts and shuts up for now. Not wanting to aggravate the warriors with a blood thirsty reputation. "Well?"
Vissehn waves to Nelio. "Oi! Nice seein' ye again! Thanks fer cushioning my landin!"
Oosaarn just... marched right up to the trio and sized up Goldmember. "Could untie him and let my worgs chase him around until he feels like being cooperative."
Esheyn glances to Ethalarian with a shrug as he takes a better look around her. She comes to lean against the table when she turns to face Goodember and the others, her eyes narrowing ever so slightly.
Kebha:"He looks like he would make good crackling, no?"
Vissehn elbows Stenden. "See, I got manners."
Stenden speaks up. "So. I've been told I should execute you."
Nelio Goodember visibly sweats as the orc steps up to him. "W- Worgs?"
Oosaarn:"Yes. Giant wolves. Worth ten of your pitiful chickens."
Thanidiel:"I'll repeat myself and my say that I dislike the concept of killing him if we can use him. Shove him back in the dungeon with his House's seal and give him a treat every time he stamps off orders for his people on our behalf."
Ethalarian throws a hand up and shakes his head in Esheyn's direction. "You could also let Muroco just step on him a little at a time." He tips his chair back on two legs now. "Unbroken bones make for good bargaining chips."
Muroco:"True."
"I could break the bones he can live without."
Kebha:"Ooooh! Can we hear his toes crunch?"
Oosaarn:"Mokra hasn't tasted elven flesh since the second war."
Muroco:"He's too corpulent. He won't put up much of a race against worgs."
Solendis:"Bargaining chip sounds the most useful. But by not just having his head- I fear we will be sending the wrong message about how we see traitors."
Vissehn looks to Stenden. "What you wanting for him?"
Vissehn:"You're the Lord here, we're offerin' the peanut gallery of commentary."
Thanidiel:"Fish has a point for you, Lordling. In the end, we stand by your choices whether they feed us or burn us." That's... not comforting in spite of the -fervent- loyalty expressed.
Ethalarian visibly cringes. Smooth, Thanidiel.
Stenden looks at Vissehn, and at the man that was visibly shrinking by the moment into the corner of the room. "I'll hear everything at my disposal first. What I want is for the realm to stop tearing itself apart- and how we handle this... Traitor, will determine that." He gives his agent a nod. Wait, see. For now at least, he supposed. 
Thanidiel doesn't seem concerened at all. 
[Judereth Swiftquiver nominated to rule Shalemarch]
Lirelle:"He has no worth to us as a prisoner, he is simply consuming resources. What Highdawn said is made much more smoother if someone else is in charge of Shalemarch. Someone capable. And loyal."
Renalays:"Do you have a recommendation then, Lady Dawnbrook?"
Solendis snaps his fingers at Lirelle. "What was that? Who would that be?"
Lirelle:"I'm sure you have minor lords that you could elevate to that position, those who have served your family all this time. Failing that, give it to Judereth. She is capable enough, and you no longer have the Black Banner to call on. Someone martial is not out of the question."
Oosaarn:"I offer no useful advice except that which entertains me. Former general. Not diplomat."
Nelio Goodember sweats more.
Renalays:"Judereth is an individual that the State would appreciate in control of Shalemarch."
"She has merit and war to her."
Kebha hasn't a sane thought in her head, she is not the one to be asking.
Solendis scratches his chin. "That would work. She's known to the peasants as a good leader too."
Solendis:"So where does that leave you?" he looks at about to-be-not-Lord Goodember.
Renalays:"It sets the tone as well for your government, I will preface, however, Lord Emberheart. Embrace one group to alienate others."
"Although, your uncle and his father before him had no taste for noble-blooded aristocracy and I suspect you have some inkling of that in you."
Vissehn looked to Renalays. "Stenden ain't neither of them, he's willin' to do what it takes."
Nelio Goodember:"I have-" he paused. Gold? That'd be ceased. Influence? In chains? "I have the love of the people? I pulled them from poverty and kept them well cared for in a time of heavy Horde levies- If you remove me, I believe any still loyal are likely to resist the decision!"
Oosaarn:"Want my advice? Side with those whose loyalty and honor are iron. Not sniveling nobles who more likely to respect their dinner plate than you."
Renalays:"I will believe that when he takes after the traditions." She stares plainly at Stenden, "A leader should fight, like the Farstriders who warden and guide us."
Ethalarian rolls his eyes.
Stenden sighed and joined his father. "I am the Emberglades." he says coldly. Looking at Renalays, he gives a small smile and a nod. "I can't please everyone. But I can keep the peace, even if it costs blood."
Thanidiel:"--Lady Illithia spills enough for her family."
Muroco:"Want me to punch him in the stomach for you?"
Stenden frowns but says nothing at Thanidiel's comment.
Lirelle:"Enough Brat. He is a child. If he dies on the front lines, this becomes an even bigger mess than it already is."
Oosaarn:"Too easy of a target."
Vissehn bristles visibly but says nothing.
Ethalarian:"Much as I'm loathe to admit it, the fat bastard raises a valid point." He turns his attention to Lirelle. "How certain are you that this replacement of yours won't have to contend with sedition from within?"
Renalays scoffs behind her white mask - more reigned by Lirelle than anyone else who had barked back at her.
Lirelle:"I don't know, and I don't care. His subjects love his money more than they love him. Any disorganised mob that forms can be easily crushed."
"If necessary I will remain here with the Crows to handle any sort of consequences."
Ethalarian:"Oh, right. Murder more of the common folk. That's always the solution."
Oosaarn:"So take his money for yourself."
Renalays:"If you are going to install your own woman in Shalemarch, then have the process be organised. Order is what comforts the lost."
Thanidiel:"Fish could help there if he doesn't miss the frontlines."
Lirelle:"Common or not, once you take up arms, you have already made your choice."
Thanidiel:"No faster courier and herald in Quel'Thalas."
[Summary]
Stenden stands above Nelio Goodemeber. "I have heard your council," he gives a nod of appreciation to the heroes gathered in his hall. "As Lord of the Emberglades, I hereby strip you of all lands- titles- and assets- They now belong to me to redistribute as I see fit." He says, clear as day. "Bladeborn," Stenden looks back over his shoulder. "Fetch Judereth Swiftquiver. Tell her what has transpired here and that she needs to meet with me immediately." He turns back to Nelio. The man who had severely- Severely- underestimated him. "And you. You will remain in the dungeons. A hostage to your supporters. Hopefully they're not stupid enough to get their 'Lord' killed by rabbling."
Vissehn nods. "I got a way with the lowborn. Bein' one, yanno."
Renalays:"Hmm."
Kebha looks almost disappointed that she's not going to get to murder anything, but she just sighs and taps her claws on her cheek.
Vissehn bows low, silently and obediently, and immediately slips away to do Stenden's bidding.
Renalays does have a glint of what appears to be genuine appreciation of Stenden's mandate - even with that subtle behaviour to the boy's agent.
Nelio Goodember eyes started to water. At least he'd live. Right? Right?
Stenden:"Thank you. All of you. I do appreciate your council."
Thanidiel:"Shall the rest of us push to the western front?"
Oosaarn:"Is that where the fighting is?"
Stenden looks to Muroco. "Especially you, Rockhoof. I have high hopes for your efforts and high hopes that my soldiers will not disappoint you or your methods."
Stenden:"Yes, keep where you are- And when Rockhoof draws more than they can afford away from their lines, it should give you an opportunity to strike once more as you did."
Lirelle mulls over Stenden's ruling. It was at the very least, acceptable. A hostage was not her preferred method of doing things, but it had its own merit at least.

I’m here in a desperate plea of fandom solidarity: will you guys please sign our petition and, moreover, would you be willing to check out Dead Boy Detectives on Netflix?
This isn’t just about getting a season 2: we’re trying to get justice for the cast, crew, and writers behind this unapologetically queer show. Netflix has gotten far too comfortable canceling fantasy shows, especially ones that are diverse or LGBTQ+ (like Dead Boy Detectives), and we want to send a message that our stories are worth telling.
I feel confident when I promise you guys will LOVE this show and should check it out! Plus if you're a Joshua Colley fan he plays Monty in Dead Boy Detectives and he's incredible! Dead Boy Detectives is campy, whimsical, supernatural, and oh so delightfully QUEER! The age range of characters is diverse and the lead cast is ¾ POC! This show is full of drama, horror, magic, romance, action, stunning visuals, cunty villains, and hilarious quips. But my favorite part of all is the show’s heavy focus on themes of grief, overcoming trauma, and self-acceptance through emotionally provocative character arcs that will touch your heart. It’s only 8 episodes, so a quick binge with no massive cliffhanger!💜

‘The end is nigh,’ intoned Jez at the top of this second semi-final. How right he is. In Lockdown Heights, South London, our virtual quiz was a great success, if rather fiendish. But we DID do a picture round featuring naked posteriors in art; I would give extremely good money to see Jeremy saying, as I said, ‘your bonuses are on bums in art’ in his usual po-faced style.
Anyway! Two matches of the season to go, and as hoped/predicted, it’ll be a doozy of a final.

Style News: Trinity’s Hughes has come out of the woodwork in his last two episodes, hasn’t he? Last time he was resplendent in a pink jumper, tonight he brought one of the finest shirts of the series into play (also highly pink). He also, in a first for UniChall, co-ordinated correct starter answers to his look: ‘louche,’ he said, louchely, on a lexicology question. ‘Monte Carlo?’ he buzzed in later, looking like he was fresh from a louche cocktail party on his ginormous yacht.

Cult Hero Of The Episode: I was intrigued to see how this semi-final played out, seeing as Trinity have been very high-scoring in the past. But they were no match for the dash and might of Lord Commander Brandon; I did want to give it to another member of his team, but when he’s answering two-thirds of all starter questions, it’s impossible. There he was in his famous ‘Thinking Brandon’ pose, before insouciantly buzzing in with ‘Hadrian’, ‘Rob Roy, ‘Bruckner’, ‘Djibouti’, ‘Aardvark’ as if reading the ingredients on a cereal packet. Clearly there are lots of educated, mostly correct guesses in there amongst all the knowledge, but he’s just so confident. ‘It’s not gonna come to me,’ he said, later, in the manner of an angry medium. Points as always for his apparel, too – a jumper that (HA!) I thought was Danny DeVito as the Penguin in Batman but is actually:

Like everyone else posting on here, I'm a huge nerd, y'all. I'm absolutely the type to make playlists for every character and universe, to make big ass Pintrest boards for muses and locations and pets (its an excuse to look at dog pics, tho, lets be real,) and I absolutely love sharing stuff like that with my writing partners. That being said, if that's not your style, that's totally fine! I'm absolutely cool with most styles of collaboration!
That's really what roleplaying is about for me - collaboration. I love writing SO MUCH, but I'm not the type of person to write out a whole novel on my own, so I absolutely adore ooc chatter about the plot, the characters, the fucking memes they would send each other, whatever it may be!
I swear I won't chew your ear off all the time, but you're cordially invited to fantasize with me ✨
As for content, I’m pretty open. Yeah, there’s those few taboo subjects that most folk agree not to touch, but violence, sexuality and dark themes are the salt and pepper of literature. Gotta have a little darkness in your paintings according to Bob Ross, and his word is law. I don’t make the rules.
I don’t like fading to black unless the scene feels repetitive, and while I don’t have any specific kinks to insert, I can’t imagine most of my characters (or anyone else, tbh,) being solely into vanilla missionary.
This is the part where I admit I'm probably not going to be a good match for you if you crave daily replies. I also crave daily replies, but I literally cannot manage my life, my chores, my job, my stupid needy cat and everything else WITH as much writing as I'd like to do a day. I'd guess my average rate of response is a day to three, but there are going to certainly be times when I can hit you back much faster.
In short, I might need a little patience, but I'm more than happy to extend the same to you.
Speaking of, I'm also really not the type to be too butthurt if you bail. It's nice to get a message, but I mean, that's really awkward and I FULLY UNDERSTAND being overwhelmed and stepping away from writing for a bit. If you wanna come back, but the fire sort of faded for the story, hey, that's fine! I have about a billion plots to launch your way and as long as we get along, I'll be here when you're ready to work on something new!
On to those plots, though, because that's the good shit, right? Like, that's what we HERE FOR. Below you'll find a list of concepts I already have rolled up fairly tight into almost-plots; they're flexible and destructible and if combinable, so if anything really speaks to you in pieces, we can work with that! I’m a huge fan of larger casts, too, so if you’re here for an expanding universe, then I am too! In most of these, I don't have a preference for role, but in those that do I've bolded the role that I would prefer <b>you</b> to play.

This village happens to have a cunning fellow, who, perhaps unwisely, takes in a burgled and beaten stranger found on the roadside. It’s not until the unconscious man is already in his home that the witch realized he’s carried back a debilitated inquisitor, a stranger who may bring word of such country practices back to his leaders. Afraid that the burning arm of the church might turn towards his home, the witch has to either hide, show the inquisitor that his people are harmless, or... well, the dead don’t talk, after all, even if that does go against the his vow to defend life. What’s a witch to do? </I>

<I> Same inquisition, different witch. Captured by the church and set to burn at the stake, there’s little hope for this one. Resigned to die, the witch is more than surprised when an otherworldly creature offers him a chance at freedom. It comes at a cost: he will be bound to the creature, in body and soul. Depending on his chaotic sponsor’s temperament, that could mean a life of learning deeper magics... or a life of torment and enslavement. A bad life is better than being on fire, though, right?</I>

The Magnus Archives ‘The Puppeteer’ (S04E16) Analysis
A solid little creepy tale about a character you might not remember that you’ve met before.  Which, honestly, is just so in keeping with the theme of his power.  Come on in to hear my thoughts on ‘The Puppeteer’.
Holy shit, one of these assholes has the good sense to see a therapist?  Good on Melanie for taking that step.  She needs an independent ear to help her out (although I REALLY hope this isn’t the therapist that Peter Lukas recommended, because I don’t trust that person not to be another Lukas family member out to isolate and torment people).  And although she’s rightfully reticent to trust any old therapist, trying to find one is good.  And insisting that the sessions not be recorded?  Probably even better.  
The statement itself is a Web statement, which automatically makes thing a bit more convoluted, and delightfully so.  I also really appreciate that Jonny Sims continues to write a very diverse cast of narrators, including ones we don’t get to hear from often.  Having the narrator be a woman who had a successful career, but because of an unplanned pregnancy and the ridiculous demands of her industry, found herself without a job, is not only a great set-up for a horror protagonist, but also a very real sort of character that is very rarely featured in a lot of fiction.  
As for our other main player in the statement, a quick spot of research tells me, although in this universe Neil Lagorio worked with John Carpenter (real horror director), in our universe Neil Lagorio doesn’t exist, nor do any of his movies.  I suppose that someone who was alive and working in the ‘70s might be a bit too recent to turn into a character in a horror podcast the way Jonny has with other real figures like Robert Smirke.  Particularly as there are strong hints that the Puppeteer, Neil Lagorio, was a proper avatar of the Web.  
Not only that, but he partnered with another avatar, this one of the Spiral, the Worker-in-Clay Gabe on his early Claymation.  They eventually split, but it’s fascinating to see that two avatars of different powers might come together and work together because they wanted to work on creative endeavors.  
It brings up questions of free will.  We know Jon works with others, has interests and cares.  We could see him partner with another avatar so long as they had aligned interest and morals.  And it seems the same case with Gabe and Lagorio.  It might not have worked for long (Gabe had his ritual to attempt, and Lagorio had other matters that needed looked after), but when it wasn’t about trying to remake the world, they were happy enough to be creative together. And I really like that, horrible as they inevitably were together.
And like the easter-egg appearance of Gabe, this is also not the first appearance of Mr. Lagorio.  He did the special effects work for Dexter Banks in ‘Creature Feature’ on his (never-finished) film Widow’s Weave about a giant spider and the entire town of people who calmly fed themselves to it.  All based on a movie and/or book that didn’t seem to have existed.  Not only were many of the actors fed to the supposedly animatronic spider that Lagorio built, but Banks himself eventually was consumed as well.  Given what we heard about how he treated those who he didn’t like, but who did interest him, I think this is entirely in line with Lagorio’s character to have arranged for both, and for the Web to have been running a very long game in regards to Dexter Banks.  It’s also notable that, in that episode, Lagorio seemed far more in the background, with Banks the mastermind of the plot to feed people to the giant spider. But then again, that’s also a very Web thing to do, using someone flashy as a front for the true schemer in the background.
That the avatar of the Web is called the Puppeteer isn’t at all surprising, although I wonder if the Stranger felt as though it had been ripped off afterwards.  But the Puppeteer himself did seem to be the very embodiment the Web.  He was very cold, almost emotionless, and people either interested him (those he liked or hated both fell into this category) or they may as well not have existed to him.  That’s the Web all over, uninterested entirely unless it can wrap someone into its schemes.
I also find it interesting that his powers seem to have turned on him in the end.  While he started out being able to control others, he eventually lost control of himself.  I wonder if eventually the power that is being conducted through any avatar burns them out.  Even the ones who aren’t killed through other means will eventually fail because the human body can’t process that sort of power for that long.  
But even in that the Puppeteer was brought joy by turning himself into a puppet in his own house, using a web of ropes and pulleys, and created a parody of normal movement for himself.  And he enjoyed his retirement right up until the Web replaced him with Anabel Caine, and she came to finally kill him.  It doesn’t seem like he was sad or frightened to see it happen either.
And then there was the end. If someone would have told me that Daisy would get a lot more Welsh and a lot more practical after being trapped in that coffin, I would have laughed.  But I loved her talk with Jon.  I loved her leveling that whether he was a monster or not, moping around was pointless.  He can’t wallow and he can’t blame everything bad that happens to everyone around him on himself.
I do like that he basically defaulted to I’m-alone-because-Martin-won’t-talk-to-me, and I sort of wanted Daisy to point out that Martin was not only not dead, but also being influenced by a being of the Lonely. Maybe a bit of persistence on Jon’s part in talking to him wouldn’t go amiss.
Either way, Daisy may be one of the few who really gets Jon at this point.  She’s also been a monster, been taken over by a power, only to have it supplanted by another.  And somehow, that has created a sense of balance in her.  No, she’s not overtly strong anymore, but what Basira seems to fail to realize is that Daisy now has real emotional strength.  She survived the coffin.  She reclaimed her dreams by signing a contract with the Institute.  Even as Basira is finding her a burden, Daisy is forging her own path.
And dragging Jon out of his own head for drinks seems like one of the most practical solutions at this point.  I’m really hoping that she might even be able to do it for Martin (she’s certainly stubborn enough, and after the coffin, I don’t think Peter Lukas would scare her much) and Melanie.
And honestly, I hope Basira begins to recognize the strength and the level-headedness that is Daisy. This season really has been about turning the tables between major pairs.  Martin is now the distant one and Jon is pining away in the most obvious fashion possible.  Basira is stronger and taking risks and running errands for Elias while Daisy is in the archives being practical and making certain everyone around her doesn’t go insane due to the powers saturating the place.  The people who seemed the most down-to-earth now seem lost, and those who were lost are making genuine efforts to be better people.
I’ll admit that Daisy has never been one of my favorite characters.  The whole cop-who-abuses-her-power thing is just not a good look.  But having a Daisy who’s finally at least more in control of herself, who has slipped the leash of the Hunt by getting tied to the Buried and the Eye?  By finding a balance between powers rather than an unhealthy devotion to one?
I think this Daisy is awesome.  Not only that, but I think Daisy may have inadvertently done what I’ve only seen a few other characters do: find a perfect balance in which she is herself and maintains control over herself.  Robert Smirke spent his entire life trying to create an almost supersymmetric balance between the powers, and is the only non-aligned character I can think of with crazy powers.  It’s not clear if he managed it right up to his death, but that’s what makes Smirke so interesting to me.  I think he realized that the powers might cancel one another out if ones allegiance was split between multiple parties.  Leitner did the same, and managed to wield an amazing power in that balance as well.
And now we have Daisy who is balanced between the Hunt, the Buried, and the Eye.  Because it was unintentional, I don’t know if she can keep it up, but in this balance she’s found a peace and a stability I’ve never heard in her before.
And that strangely leaves me hopeful about Martin as well.  Because I think he may be intentionally balancing multiple powers. He’s stringing Peter Lukas along, clearly not the terrified and mindless thrall that Lukas was thinking this poor innocent boy was going to be.  And I think he can do that because he’s been previously balanced between the Eye and the Web.  And honestly, a Martin who forges a deliberate balance is one that interests me a lot.  Martin has always been such a passive character that seeing him become passive aggressive with both Elias and Peter has been heartening.  Now, honestly, I want him to get even more proactive.  I really want a Martin who is using Peter far more than Peter is using him, and because of his connections with the Web, Peter doesn’t even know it’s happening.  I want a Martin who comes out the other side of this plotline having created a unique balance between his own fear of being alone, his desire for knowledge, and his desire for control and slight tendency toward manipulation.  Any of the powers on its own destroys those it claims (every avatar who truly embraces their powers is evidence of that, and Lagorio is just a very overt example of being ultimately consumed by his own power), but those who manage the balance may be the only people who can actually achieve a degree of mental well-being and real, independent power in the entire show.
Either way, I’m very excited to have not one but two characters who may be intentionally or unintentionally dabbling in the balance between multiple powers.  Daisy is getting more and more interesting, and through her I’m getting interested in what Martin might do as a parallel.  And that’s a solid place to be.
Conclusions
Robert Smirke has been my favorite and most intriguing background character since his introduction. His whole balance-and-fear thing is such a different approach to the powers than any of the avatars or other worshippers have attempted.  I have to imagine that achieving that balance is incredibly difficult, and maintaining it without being torn apart must be even harder.  But he managed it.  Leitner managed it.  And now both Daisy and Martin might be managing it.  It all may end terribly, but I am really excited that we’ve possibly got two characters trying to find that balance.

“Rolling in the deep” is a 2015 novella by Mira Grant (Seanan McGuire). It acts as a prequel to “Into the drowning deep”, published in 2017. This is a double review because I highly recommend both of these titles to anyone who likes sci-fi horror of the mythological monsters kind.
“Rolling in the deep” summary:
When the Imagine Network commissioned a documentary on mermaids, to be filmed from the cruise ship Atargatis, they expected what they had always received before: an assortment of eyewitness reports that proved nothing, some footage that proved even less, and the kind of ratings that only came from peddling imaginary creatures to the masses. They didn't expect actual mermaids. They certainly didn't expect those mermaids to have teeth. This is the story of the Atargatis, lost at sea with all hands. Some have called it a hoax; others have called it a maritime tragedy. Whatever the truth may be, it will only be found below the bathypelagic zone in the Mariana Trench…and the depths are very good at keeping secrets.

Seven years ago, the Atargatis set off on a voyage to the Mariana Trench to film a “mockumentary” bringing to life ancient sea creatures of legend. It was lost at sea with all hands. Whatever the truth may be, it will only be found below the waves. But the secrets of the deep come with a price.

My review:
"We said ‘pretty women in the sea,’ and that was good enough, because who doesn’t want there to be pretty women in the sea?"
Like it says on the label, this is a story about mermaids. Specifically, about killer mermaids who are nothing like the legends say… or almost. Both of these books are clear on what you’re going to find inside; in the case of “Rolling in the deep”, you are warned from the first page that nobody makes it out alive (and why). Yet both stories still manage to be suspenseful and with their own surprises.
“Rolling in the deep” is not required to understand “Into the drowning deep”, and you could also read the first and not the second. In my opinion, though, both books can be appreciated separately: the first one as a short story in which the unsaid implications add to the suspenseful horror; the second one making you feel secure enough, invested in the characters enough before showing you the full extent of the danger. I really liked both but, personally, I found the first story in particular delightfully chilling.
The plot of a mockumentary gone wrong works really well for the genre. The deep ocean creatures have always fascinated me, and it was great seeing this as a setting for horror. I also really liked the sci-fi aspects of the story. Sure, there’s probably a lot of inaccurate science facts and descriptions of research methods, but who cares? I’m not reading this to learn science. I’d rather have that, which at least seemed carefully thought-out, than a vague “and then the scientists did some science”. It makes the story richer and it accomplishes making you think that those creatures really could be out there. The author does a really good job at making the myth of the mermaid and their “reality” fit.
The characters were complex, interesting and diverse: there are as many women as men, there are characters of colour, there are gay characters and couples, there are characters with mobility impairments. Maybe more importantly, though, for they are so infrequently represented in media, both books have badass deaf characters, and in fact ASL is a big part of the plot.
This is one of the best horror stories I've read; you won’t easily forget about it if you’re ever out in open sea. My rating for both books is 5/5 stars!
Fun fact: There’s talk of a movie adaptation of “Rolling in the deep” that would be directed by Mary Lambert (“Pet Sematary”). While a lot shorter than its sequel, I think this novella has a lot of potential for a “Blair Witch Project” style and I can’t wait to see it!
