Friday Fic Recs
Star Wars again! Each of these is between 5,000-10,000 words. Once again vaguely in order of when they would take place in the timeline.
A Jedi's Cloak by ImperialKatwala - Obi-Wan & Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan & Anakin, Obi-Wan & Cody, Obi-Wan & Rex
Jedi cloaks are made for children. This is a lovely series of moments surrounding Obi-Wan and Jedi cloaks. I absolutely adore little themed looks into relationships and Jedi culture. The comfort and feelings here are top notch!
Operation: Don't Wake The Commander by AlleyMoslof - Fox & Members of the Coruscant Guard
Some shinies get orders to make sure Commander Fox's nap goes undisturbed and commit hard enough to maybe save the galaxy. I am not immune to creative fix-its. I'm always fascinated discovering new and fun ways of breaking canon for the happier. This one's a very entertaining read!
The Horrendous Space Kablooie by ineedausername1829 - Obi-Wan & Anakin | Vader
9 year old Anakin wakes up on the Executor. Chaos ensues. I love this one, for several reasons. First off, this is baby Anakin written well, he's everything that he should be. I really appreciate the sense of wistful fondness from Obi-Wan throughout as well as the places where it starts to crack, it really helps sell the tragedy of Anakin and Vader. This starts out as cracky fun and I really love the tone shift as it goes on, little Anakin causing trouble is fun and cute but... the story doesn't let us forget reality. I don't want to get too into the ending of the fic itself but it really does work its way up to and earn its ending and that fluff and angst tag.

The Horrendous Space Kablooie by ineedausername1829 ( @ineedausernamel829 )
“What, in the name of all that is good and holy, are you doing here?” The officer, a wrinkled old man who seemed to wheeze instead of talk, shook him. “This is an Imperial Star Destroyer. Not a place for a 9-year-old welp to stowaway.”
“I didn’t stowaway,” Anakin responded indignantly (and somewhat regretfully – pulling that off would have been wizard). “I woke up here.”
(9 year old Anakin wakes up on the Executor. Chaos ensues.) Completed, 6k words.
*** ** * ** ***
“Obi-Wan,” Anakin whimpered, desperately keening out in the Force, wanting nothing more than his master to come and rescue him, but all his lashing out found was emptiness, blankness, as if Obi-Wan didn’t even exist anymore, as if he was— “No,” Anakin gasped. “Obi-Wan!” He reared up in the Force, trying to escape the pressure squeezing him mercilessly, but his efforts were pitiful, untrained. Black dots gathered at the edges of his vision as he thrashed about, one moment physically on the floor, the next in the Force, realities blurring together in a putrid pollution of fear and pain and hate, as Anakin wailed into the Force, screeching for help only to receive an echo that seemed to cry alone alone, all alone— Everything went dark.

This is similar to the renaming of the Big Bang to the HSB, or the Horrendous Space Kablooie! Courtesy of Calvin and Hobbes.

Conversation
Skipper: Isn't it weird how scientists can imagine all the matter of the universe exploding out of a dot smaller than the head of a pin, but they can't come up with a more evocative name for it than "The Big Bang?" That's the whole problem with science. You've got a bunch of empiricists trying to describe things of unimaginable wonder.
Kowalski: What would you call the creation of the universe?
Skipper: The Horrendous Space Kablooie!
Kowalski: Hmm... That IS better.
Skipper: Almost anything would be. And I think "Tyrannosaur" should be changed to "Monstrous Killer Death Lizard."

Creationist Notes and Responses
Okay, Todd, you asked for this, so I shall oblige. These are the Creatonist Notes and my responses:
Tumblr media
Yes, he is. Every adult a child encounters influences them, most importantly their parents and their teachers. Bill Nye acted as a teacher to a lot of children and helped spread awareness of science and related subjects.
Tumblr media
I can't speak for Bill Nye, but I am not scared of a Divine Creator for the exact same reason I am not really scared of vampires or ghosts, because I do not believe in them.
Tumblr media
Yes, it is illogical. Even if you believe the world was created by God, why would they create everything already old? Shits and giggles? To make everyone confused?
Tumblr media
No. The second law of thermodynamics states that entropy in a closed system never decreases, only increases: order turns into disorder. But that is only in a closed system, where nothing goes in or out. Evolution is not a closed system, it is influenced by outside forces (natural selection). For more, read this.
Tumblr media
Explain how 2 + 2 = 4 if there is no God. You can do it, I believe in you.
Tumblr media
You don't. Science is objective - it is derived from observed facts, it tries to fit itself to the facts, not the other way around. The "meaning of life" is subjective and always will be. There is no such thing as an "objective meaning of life."
Tumblr media
Yes, that is one theory. That is called "abiogenesis" and there are many ways it could have happened. I'm partial to the "primordial soup" version. Mmm, soup.
Tumblr media
Evolution is not a theory "like Creationism or the Bible." For one thing, the Bible is a book, not a theory. For another thing, a scientific theory  is different from a hypothesis. A hypothesis is basically an educated guess; a theory is based on observations and facts. Gravity is a theory, but you don't deny that.
Tumblr media
Science is not a theory (and see above, re: why you are wrong about that). Science is what we know. Science is what we understand. Science is knowledge. Creationism and "intelligent design" are not about knowledge, they are about lack of knowledge - "If we don't know how the universe began, then God did it!"
Tumblr media
The purpose of the debate was to have a debate. Debates in science are held all the time, because scientists hold different opinions and understand that they can be wrong about things. Debates are also held in religions, although those are called crusades and tend to end much bloodier.
Tumblr media
Yes. The evidence for the Big Bang is all around us, literally: it's called cosmic microwave background radiation and it's what's left over from that Horrendous Space Kablooie. Also, lots of other stuff can be observed.
Tumblr media
It's very easy, actually: I open my eyes and look at the world and I see it for what it is and I still think it's amazing.
Tumblr media
You got me. Are there still monkeys? I've never seen one except on TV. Perhaps they don't exist?

Hilarious and cool!
(too bad Big Bang caught on before Horrendous Space Kablooie could be coined)

And yet we STILL don't get to call the Big Bang "The Horrendous Space Kablooie"?
