you seem optimistic so you think we’re still getting shigaraki back? :( i’m really sad the way hori has handled the izuku tenko plotline as of right now like i just can’t wrap my head around this
I mean, I definitely think it's a possibility. We still don't know exactly what happened to overhaul/decay, and how it may be used in the future. We saw Tenko and Deku touch fists; theoretically there could have been some kind of exchange there, or he could be existing as a vestige in some way.
Then again, (and this is going to piss a lot of people off :')) I kind of... get where Horikoshi is going with it?
BEFORE YOU START BOOING!
I think a lot of the discomfort and hurt from fans comes from the perception that Izuku failed to save Tenko. That, by allowing him to die, the narrative is in fact saying he didn't deserve to be save--that Horikoshi himself doesn't believe Tenko truly deserved it. I have also seen a lot of talk about how it doesn't fit in with the ongoing, overarching themes of the narrative, and (while I'm not saying these people are wrong) I would like to push back on that a little, because I think there is precedence in the story as to why Tenko's death holds up, despite it being terrible.
The culmination of Tenko's arc broaches a crossroad of two major concepts in the story: heroes, and saving, and what both of those ideas mean. And, I think, in Tenko's death, we get and answer to both, and more importantly, an answer to his overall purpose.
What does it mean to save? In BNHA, the concept is a little vague. I've often people ascribe the "total victory" mindset as one of protection, as preventing any tragedy or harm. Through that lens, Tenko's death therefore is an automatic failure--a nonstarter. HE's dead, so he wasn't saved. The end. However, while "saving" might seem like a simple, straight forward concept, I would like to dig a little deeper, because I think what Horikoshi's doing is much more interesting.
Saving (Deku's definition of it, anyway) is a lot closer to freeing than it is to protecting. Which sounds weird, but I'll do my best to explain. I think the two best examples of this particular nuance to his definition are actually in two characters people tend to forget he saved: Shoto and Gentle Criminal.
Because he did save both of them. Not in the really obvious, black-and-white way he saved Eri, no, but he did save them. And both times were... painful, to say the least.
Tumblr media
When Deku went after Shoto during the sport's festival, it wasn't, like, nice. He dug his little nerd fingers in where it hurt the worst and dragged out Shoto's biggest fears and insecurities, and then he said GET OVER THEM. Stop letting them control you. Stop letting your father control you. You're your own person, and you get to make your own choices.
He didn't punch Endeavor. He didn't even take pity on Shoto, or say he was sorry. But you know what he did do? Deku cut the leash. AND he damn near killed Shoto (and himself) making sure that Shoto understood that he was free. He gave Shoto back something that he'd been missing, something he was afraid to look in the face; something that Deku picked up, brushed off, and said, "please stop throwing this away, it's important. You're important".
And it works, goddamit.
Tumblr media
Gentle is both different and similar. In a similar vein, the way Deku saves Gentle is sort of... not obvious. But I think if you look here:
Tumblr media
Gentle isn't a bad person. He's ambitious and a little lax about the law, but he never set out to hurt anybody. But we see over the course of his arc how he gets so tangled up in his own pain and his desperation to be seen that he forgets his own ideals, his own morals. In the face of becoming someone, he loses sight of what matters most to him: just like Deku, Gentle wants to be a hero.
Which, in the end, he is. And Deku's the one who pushes him there.
Tumblr media
But what about Tenko? What about the crying child inside him? Why wasn't he saved?
When people talk about child Tenko, they often seem to see him as a symbol of the person that Deku's trying to save. But I think that, just maybe, that's wrong. I think maybe, actually, Deku is trying to save Tenko from that child.
Tumblr media
Child Tenko is, in many ways, a symbol of nothing but AFO's power. That is a child stripped of his name, of his original quirk, of his family, of his sense of self. That is a puppet controlled by AFO, without any autonomy of its own. That child is a wound that Tenko cannot escape for as long as AFO still holds any power over him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's why this chapter All Might said that maybe Deku did save Tenko, if he no longer saw the child version of him in the vestige realm. Deku did save him. Because Tenko isn't a child anymore, and he isn't AFO's puppet; he's a free man, for the first time in his life.
A free man who chooses to be a hero.
Heroes get talked about a lot in BNHA (duh), but what is the defining quality of a true hero? Someone who wins? Sure. Someone who saves? Yeah, of course. But the actual test of what differentiates a hero from everybody else is their willingness to sacrifice. To give up everything for the greater good. Even if it hurts. Sometimes especially if it hurts. I mean, this has come up a lot through the manga. Deku running in to attack the sludge villain, Mirio giving up his quirk, Eraserhead throwing himself in front of his students, Edgeshot shortening his lifespan to save Bakugo, All Might standing quirkless in front of the greatest evil of his time-- literally the constant refrain from the narrative has been that being willing to sacrifice it all is what makes a hero a hero.
Tenko's final wish from last chapter is gut wrenching, but: he wanted to be a hero for the Villains. The rest of the world can rot for all he cares, but his friends, those disenfranchised, hurt people that everyone else gave up on? Those people who have never been saved, those people who have never been protected... he wants to be their hero. In the face of danger, of certain doom, he is a free man, and he has a choice.
Tumblr media
So he makes a sacrifice. His final act is to become a hero. For them.
Tumblr media
Cue the sobbing tears.
Additionally, I think it's relevant to point out here how strongly the narrative has advocated for victimhood to be divorced from being a perpetual self-identity. It really emphasizes the power of choosing to rise above your situation and pain to help other people, while also suggesting that your pain does not excuse you from hurting people. You can be a victim and you can be a perpetrator; they are not mutually exclusive. And because of this, after Deku saves Tenko, he does not owe him. He saved Tenko, but he could not keep him alive, and... I don't think that it's about Tenko deserving or not deserving to die. It's just that Tenko had reached a point of no return where his only choices were to die a slave or die free and he broke his shackles. But he was always going to die. Doomed by the narrative, both literally and figuratively. We can argue all day as to what degree of responsibility he holds for his actions as a highly abused, traumatized, often shell of a person. But the point is that at every junction of the story, Tenko (and the story around him) escalated until he was trapped. There wasn't a way out, and it's heartbreaking, and maybe that's the point.
I'm not saying it's fair. I'm certainly not saying you have to like it. But... I don't know. I don't feel like this is some completely out of pocket, off-the-rails end that destroyed all its characters. And who knows! Maybe Tenko will be brought back later. Maybe the epilogue will get progressively worse and I'll hate it. Maybe I'll finally get some sleep and regret writing this at all. I have no idea. Really. But we're all in this together, so these are my thoughts right now :)

I said it when I was about to sleep in my last paragraph and tags, and I still stand by that: Izuku's chapter is supposed to be about him, but I'm not gonna be vague right now: Katsuki not being there right now is a good thing, narratively and from the story's standpoint.
It means he'll be back later on, he's too important of a character for Izuku to not appear later (plus every single person knows Izuku's unintentional tendency to single him out amongst others, it's intentional on Hori's part). Their origins involved each other, why wouldn't their rising as well?
He started the "Ganbare yo, Izuku" line, of course All Might and Inko would be the finishers: These, are by far, Izuku's most important people in his life. The reasons why he decided he'd be stronger. (also BNHA is probably the first time I'm genuinely mad at a translator, united statians please read the raws)
Related to that; "Kacchan and the others" is in full play here, remember Izuku has a tendency to do that? Yeah, the story is painting that medium; Katsuki comes first, then everyone else, that's why the last time we see him he's telling Izuku to do his best (when I catch the BNHA's US translator I swear-)
He's Izuku's (and by extension, the heroes') spanner in the works or the trump card they need, Watson vs. Doylist here: His impact can overshadow Izuku's own and these reactions are proof of it, and almost everyone Izuku has inspired has been mentioned, seen or alluded except him for a reason.
Izuku's rising isn't done yet. I have a feeling this is just his beginning. It's the path shaped by everyone who believed in him, and Izuku at the beginning was the only one who did... But he himself is about to do something most would consider crazy or insane. I did say Midoriya Izuku: Rising could be split into parts, and because of this, I think it can still happen.
This is his awakening. Not OFA's, his. And I'm (not really) sorry to say, this path was shaped because his crazy ass had a hero who wasn't All Might, that's a light in the dark, not a stepping stone.
Also, once again, consider: All For One, vestige world, that guy can't help himself but gloat, 362 vestige, Izuku being this close to helping Tenko, hands and hope narrative, 322, season seven's first opening and ending, Heroes: Rising callbacks, Izuku, Katsuki and Tenko being the ones to opposite AFO's narrative, it's all coming together!
Related to this: even Melissa Shield, Rody Soul and Pino showed up, when they've only shown up to interact with Izuku in Team Up Mission. So that's already a reference to Two Heroes and World Heroes' Mission (PLUS THEY'RE A PART OF THE MAIN CANON I HAVE CHEERED FUCK YEAH). So we have a Heroes: Rising reference left. Guys. It's gonna happen :]
What I'm saying is don't doom post so soon guys, the moments are coming, Katsuki is coming, but having him around Izuku right now would either make things too easy for the story or make things convoluted now; remember AFO would not hesitate to kill this guy again, and Izuku losing it when he has nothing but embers to fight him right now is the last thing we want, I hope XD unless we're feeling angsty but let's save it for later, shall we?

Talk about how BK stans are wierd about Izu. But lets talk how Izu's abuse was deliberate on Hori's part (again, this is not "random guy pressing many buttoms" he sit down and wrote this shit) and how people, mostly BK's stans ignore in favor of fanon bkdk
Izu's dad is mia (In Japan some families use actors to pretend to be the kid dad's. Like wow ) and we dont even know his job.
Inko is a beglectful mom, thanks to how Hori wrote her. (For those reading, neglectful doesnt need to always be "she ignored how her kid is starving" Inko never bother to know her own son or do anything)
Why Izu accepts he is useless? Not victim blaming here but....this is smth I don't get why Izu nods and accept he is useless. "A lesson in hopeless" which could explain but...that would have to apply to others students who were abused by BK. And they seem fine.
(Also the lil shit Izu saved from Bk and turns against Izu later...why? I get kids can be assholes! But while the lil shit doesnt need to be Izu's bff...why try to please BK?)
Hi @mikeellee 👋
Both Bakugou stans and Hori (to a lesser extent) are horrible when it comes to Izuku, they both seem to treat Izuku as the cheerleader / supporting act to Bakugou.
Bakugou's /BkDk stans (mostly) tend to write what they wish to see - an asshole with a heart of gold who redeems himself and proves himself worthy of being Izuku's partner. While seemingly unknowingly writing him as abusive - screaming at his partner, still calling him a "Shitty Deku" but fondly or doing worse like causing Izuku to try and kill himself or dumping Izuku via text while Izuku is in hospital...
All the while Hori neglects Izuku and his family sidelining him for the Todoroki's (no hate to the Todofam) but...
Where's Midoriya Hisashi? If he's AFO you would think Hori would build up to this moment / give Izu deja vu when he sees AFO - anything? Or is Hisashi a random asshole civilian who upped and left his family or tragically died?
Why does Midoriya Inko act so neglectful yet worried? How Hori writes Inko is pretty poor honestly. In canon, she's not an evil, mean mum nor is she supermum like I've seen the most common fandom perceptions be - She's just there. A true background character. She's just stood there not doing anything while her quirkless son gets violently beaten up for ten years and does nothing. (She had to have had some idea what was going on, no four year old could hide being exploded.) Yet U.A post Kamino she threatens to pull Izu out - now Izu has a quirk, why this change in attitude now Izu has a quirk? Hori never shows her actively doing things for Izuku like a mother should; she cries and worries but thats all she does - while Izuku comforts her! At least other shonen parents have the excuse of being dead so therefore being unable to protect their kids...
Izuku seemingly accepting himself as useless... It began with the acceptance of the hero name 'Deku' to me it felt like someone, who had been bullied for their disability, making their hero name "Spaz" just because a new friend at UA called them once that - 'but in a nice way.' So that "makes it ok now!" When really it doesn't - certainly not like how MHA showed, in real life moments like reclaiming the insult (especially with a history attached like Izuku's does) has to take a lot of work. It felt like whiplash to have Izuku suddenly "be ok with it." And honestly... I don't think he is truly, he still thinks of himself as useless and thats reinforced by 1) everyone around him calling him "Deku" still - including Bakugou. Izuku's internal monologue even supports that he still thinks of himself as useless which is just SAD at this point. 2) Izuku rarely (if ever) getting any rightful praise. 3) Izuku getting shared blame for shit that is Bakugou's fault alone. House arrest should have been just Bakugou's punishment and Izu should have kicked his ass to the moon.
And for your final point, that is true that kid is a little asshole and you would think that in a school where most people are aspiring to be heroes there would be some (other than Izu) trying to stand up for people being bullied against Bakugou...
But at the same time it's realistic for a class to be afraid of the violent loud mouth bully who is strong and unafraid to throw a punch. Imagine that but throwing explosions, burns and explosive punches - yikes.
Either way, Bakugou's popularity should have tanked with his 'garbage personality' when he got into U.A but Hori wants to wank him off.

So am wondering, does Midoriya learning hand to hand combat and martial arts after USJ makes sense with his character? He is supposed to be the Deku who does his best. He declared to All might that he needs to become stronger. not just make it to UA and trial behind. Even during USJ Midoriya learnt an important lesson from Aizawa which is not be a One trick pony. All of this and yet he doesn't learn how to fight and advance his base combat skills, learn martial arts etc. Like he should've realised that he can't depend on his non mastered quirk all the time and started to learn MMA or any other martial arts. Yet he doesn't do it. Even during Grand Torino's internship, he doesn't reflect on his other weakness and try to overcome them. Once he controls OFA, he becomes bland and unbearable to watch. it makes no sense narrative wise for him to not learn and improve in combat with and without his quirk.
He is also way smarter, tactical and talented compared to Bakugou and i would even say at an equal to Momo and we can see this early on in Season 1. Izuku is capable of doing it. But yet he doesn't and instead he behaves like a dumb kid before the sports festival.
Makes me wonder if Hori, made him dumb so that other characters can shine at his expense. Like Bakugou, Uraraka, Momo, etc. Like why Uraraka who was mediocre in fighting and was way behind Izuku is allowed to learn Martial arts after Sports festival while Izuku is not given the same chance after the sports fest. He gets left behind. So is he supposed to be shit in fighting compared to characters who were way behind him once when he is supposed to be the strongest in S3.
He even loses to Bakugou at 8% which is supposed to more faster and stronger than explosion. He loses because he was predictable which is BS considering, this is the same kid who beat, Stain, Muscular and has real-life experience compared to Bakugou while the latter is just a hype and nothing more and also he wasn't in the right mind to think since he was busy bitching about All might's retirement. I honestly think that Hori Hyped Bakugou to the moon for his combat skill when he himself is mediocre. There is no evidence of him training his combat skills the right way. I mean this is the guy who only goes after the weak and acts as if winning against them is a big thing. Just a big fish in a little pond lol.
Hello 😀 thank you for your ask. I love talking about the flaws on MHA. So...before I answer, please, keep in mind how Hori is clearly playing against his MC. I don't know if you go to the writeblogger section of Tumbler but...in there some authors comment how "I need to hurt my ocs for character development"
We laugh (or not)
But here is the big difference betwen them and Hori.
"I killed MC's BFF just so he could see how the situation is serious and he needs to step up his game"
Hori? "Izu needs to be humble. So let make him be saddle with his abuser and still think he is useless and have no real support but give to his abuser"
Many people think Izu should have remained quirkless. I strongly disagre. If he had been quirkless...then he couldn't be a hero. We see how heroes NEED a quirk, we never ever seen a hero not rely on his quirk.
I also dont agree with the whole "quirkless = death" I was thinking about this last night. I think quirked peope just ignore quirkless and can co-exist with them.
Yes many fics make IZU be the butt of all "quirkless discrimination" but in canon ONLY BK show issues with Izu(and Izu alone, while he bullied others in Aldera he never mentioned "quikrless? Die" if Izu had a quirk since day 1...he would have bullied him too)
As for training...ask yourself this
What was Izu planning to do in order to be a hero? Say AM has said "yes everyone can be a hero" ok...then what?
This is a red flag.
Ok Izu is training during 10 months (time passage in mha is terrible) ok...he gains muscles, AM does nothing after that.
Aizawa is the worst teacher (he would be way worse if he was a true perv) his exam helped no one and was so pointless.
(It serves to prove how BK is the special boy for Hori)
Note how no one in UA helps the students - Aizawa went to help someone who is not his student, instead of the boy who has a quirk who breaks his bones- and no one cares Izu is breaking his bones.
"If he breaks his bones again. I wont heal hom" Recover Girl.
Izu, of he had a good writer, could have been the first hero to actually use quirkless style of fight.
He was amazing in that race as he didnt need his quirk.
He won.
But Hori is against his mc...for some wierd reason. Izu cant get credit nor win.
Plus Izu not only should have wipe BK's face on the floor but so should he have done the same to class A1 in "let's capture Midoriya bc we know best"
But again
Hori is against his MC.
He even went as far as to draw a "mascot" based on BK.
This man...ruined his entire manga in favour of a useless character such as BK.
Like Izu can't be mad for himself. He still think he is worthless.
His hero name is Dekiru but ...Hori still goes ans make him accept "useless" like Hori...you suck as writer.

Villain Hunt Arc Meta: All For One’s Horrific Guide to Methodically Breaking Down Your Local OFA Holder
Ft. Turning the ‘Overpoweredness’ of OFA into a Setback, and AFO’s Successful Manipulations Of Midoriya Izuku
In which I also give AFO too much credit for all the pain he’s probably caused, and theorize that his plans to break Izuku actually started getting enacted even before he’d escaped Tartarus.
(A.k.a. me loving the angst because this is really good angst writing, but also hating it because the manga doesn’t come with a Angst with A Happy Ending tag unless you count Izuku’s ‘this is the story of how I became the greatest hero’ which isn’t really a guarantee of happiness )
So. What an arc! In the span of ten chapters (starting from the end of the War arc) Hori delivered a full-on Villain-looking, Vigilante Midoriya Izuku. Congratulations, Horikoshi, for finally introducing Akatani Mikumo!
The fast pacing and lack of breather panels are so fitting for this arc truly. AFO never gave them a moment’s rest. Yes, from henceforth as he’d promised... It’s always going to be his turn.
Tumblr media
Izuku is making amazing progress with unlocking the full power of One For All. In his words, his abilities might as well already be on par with what a healthier All Might could do, and with no recoil to boot. Plus, there’s only one last quirk to unlock. For villain fights, I don’t think we need to worry about him losing, or him breaking anymore bones at this time.
Which, some might argue, makes Izuku too ‘OP.’
To start with, I want to talk first about the ‘overpoweredness’ of the One For All quirk. It’s a wonderful quirk truly, having inspired and amazed so many because of its sheer power. Used well, it could grant instant victories and restore the people’s wavering faith to the heroes. Because with a quirk like that on your side, everything’s going to be alright, right? There’s always gonna be that bit of hope that something is still strong enough to stand against the looming evil...right?
Yeah. That’s what the people who’d lived under All Might’s Era of Peace thought so too. History repeats.
OFA’s ‘OP-ness’ is both a great blessing and a great burden.
Here are some points on how the narrative has made OFA's 'overpoweredness' a setback:
1. All For One—that bastard—exploits the urge that comes with OFA. Just as ‘AFO the quirk’s’ goal is to steal OFA, OFA’s job is to defeat AFO, and Izuku is sacrificing himself to its cause.
Here’s another thing I want to point out: The conclusion that the heroes drew about AFO planning to capture Midoriya Izuku alive? In rereading, I’m starting to believe it’s nothing but a mere assumption of his plans. Aside from the deal made with Lady Nagant—of which I think AFO didn’t take seriously anyway and set her up for failure— (and while we as readers are already aware of his true intentions to wear Izuku down) it’s weird that nowhere had AFO directly mentioned to Izuku that he’s going to kidnap him and take his quirk from him.
2. OFA made Izuku so brilliant (e.g. Pros and former Pros alike going “This kid...”) that they really can't help but place all their hopes on him. Sighs. In an ideal world, this would be a dream come true of Izuku getting his due credit for all his heroic achievements Pro heroes have started to do to Izuku what they’ve done all their lives to All Might--which is to put him on the pedestal, while they fall back to cover him like guards/safety net. Hence, falling back to the One Pillar Model mindset.
3. OFA makes Izuku untouchable, not only to the villains, but also to his allies. Prime material to reinforce isolation. And if Izuku doesn't want to be caught, he won't make it easy for either side.
4. OFA IS SUS AF, OKAY? What are the Holders doing?! While gaining access to them makes it easier and convenient to have personal trainers in handling OFA, the vestiges prove to add a lot to Izuku’s mental load. If they’d allowed Izuku to come to the point of being caked with blood and filth, they’re not doing very well at guiding him. Realize that most of their arc interactions with Izuku is Quirk Talk. They, of all people, should know how AFO’s machinations work! Hey First, for the love of god, warn Izuku! He’s showing so many signs of being manipulated that you should be picking up on. please /sobs ;;
Tbf, like, I’m pretty sure that the Holders haven’t been as mentally okay either, which would feed into Izuku’s current mindset.
Now that the setbacks have been listed, let’s dive in to AFO’s plans to toy with Midoriya Izuku.
PHASE 1: Pre-Tartarus Breakout
Speaking of OFA being sus, there’s something that has been niggling at the back of my mind.
Tumblr media
All For One basically tells Izuku: “You were my main interest that entire time I was in prison”. So, to pass the time in Tartarus (since he can’t use any(?) of his quirks), AFO has been doing nothing but apparently daydreaming and designing a personal hell for the Ninth Holder during that entire period. HOWEVER, it also made me wonder…
…Even before he’d broken out, had AFO made any moves at all in enacting his plans to break Izuku?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah?
And here’s the kicker: he says that before Blackwhip bursted out.
AFO is a master manipulator. Assuming that Izuku doesn’t have any latent AFO quirk (for whatever reason *coughs* maybe dfo if you're a believer) or that Quirk Singularity has anything to do with it, what is the trigger to Izuku suddenly having access to Blackwhip?
I’d argue that it is All For One himself.
Why? What’s his goal? If you notice during the Joint Training arc, Izuku is feeling pretty confident about his progress. He’s rather happy and feeling blessed, and he is making leaps and bounds with base power OFA.
AFO can’t have that. He can’t allow the Ninth Holder to become too emotionally stable, or else he’d have a stronger will. So by somehow activating Blackwhip, AFO makes Izuku feel like he hasn’t made any progress with his quirk at all. During the evaluations, Izuku mentions that he still needs a lot to work on, and while not all of it is visible, with the way he behaves, it’s pretty evident that his self-confidence has taken a rather large hit.
But, wait! If AFO had tampered with OFA during the JT arc, paving the way to unlocking the rest (like he’d also done during the War arc when he tried to ‘steal’ it then), then wouldn’t AFO be sabotaging himself since he’d be making Izuku a more formidable opponent?
Sure. Except that the quirks inside OFA are mostly useless when it comes to the mental part of the fighting. The only thing they’re useful for is for the current Holder to be able to play keep-away in the physical realm. And AFO could easily just find counters for those through his work on Tomura.
You know how else the situation becomes advantageous for AFO? With every quirk unlocked, Izuku’s goalposts keep on getting away from him, and Izuku will always feel like he isn’t ready or prepared enough. Izuku will push and push himself to master OFA to its fullest, to become more powerful, at the cost of his mental/emotional stability and physical wellbeing as he wears himself down.
And every time Izuku grew more powerful, and became more ‘OP,’ he is burdened with all the aforementioned setbacks that came with it. He could be the most powerful person in the world, but it’s all for naught if he doesn’t take care of himself. This plan is both a high risk and high reward on AFO’s part, and as of the moment, with a bloody Izuku staggering all over, AFO is visibly reaping these high rewards.
PHASE 2: Post-Tartarus Breakout
He’s going to toy with Izuku until Izuku fucking breaks. What follows is his series of actions that instills the desired responses from Midoriya Izuku. Let’s see how the master manipulator plays this game of chess, shall we?
Tumblr media
Izuku’s plan: Reach out to villains and try to save them.
AFO’s counter: Kill off those who turn their back against villainy and/or acknowledge Izuku as a true hero.
Izuku’s resulting response: Stop reaching out to villains. Gain an instant victory and move on.
After all, what do you get when you block a hero from showing sympathy? You get an unfeeling living weapon.
---
Izuku’s plan: Work with the top pro heroes to bring down AFO.
AFO’s counter: Make plans that will serve to highlight how the top pros are just slowing Izuku down. (e.g. Making moves while it’s raining, so as to divide them, but also to bring out No. 1 Hero Endeavor’s "slowness" in the rain. Nope, I don’t think that’s a throwaway line at all.)
Izuku’s resulting response: Grows more reckless, often leading the charge.
---
Izuku’s plan: Track AFO down.
AFO’s counter: Lead them to dead-ends. Or when they do supposedly reach something, endanger them.
Izuku’s resulting response: His tunnel vision worsens, as he grows more desperate.
---
Izuku’s plan: All Might following him around is okay since it would help All Might from worrying so much, and Izuku could simultaneously keep an eye on and protect All Might.
AFO’s counters: There are a lot to really fuck with this bond, damn you AFO.
Taint that passing the torch memory of ‘You’re Next.’
Declare that All Might no longer interests him. Liar. He outright stated before that he’s one for keeping a grudge
Send another assassin to Izuku [Underlying Message: You yourself are a walking danger zone to those whom you dearly care for.]
Izuku’s resulting response:
Interpret that memory of ‘You’re Next’ as taking up the position of being AFO’s shiny new plaything, and therefore supposedly sparing All Might from the torment (Unfortunately, making Izuku push AM away is just part of the torment ;A;)
Think that AM is no longer in the direct line of fire as long as AFO focuses on Izuku
Finally, push his last line of morale support away, and completely isolate himself.
Btw, I wonder how All Might feels about Izuku using Nana's quirk to get away from him.
---
The suffering doesn’t end.
Izuku’s plan: Save people.
AFO’s counters: (possibly offscreen) Send more villains and assassins to torment Izuku some more with the knowledge that he can’t save them. Sending villains out also puts innocents in danger.
Izuku’s resulting response: He won’t stop for anything. He won’t sleep, won’t eat, won’t slow down. He will always do his best to save as long as someone is in danger.
His body will keep on moving and moving and MOVING on its own.
--- All For One is very effective as a supervillain. He has managed to make the heroes think that his only goal is to capture Izuku alive for his quirk. He has Izuku right where he wants him: dancing to his tune at the palm of his hand, utterly toyed with, left with no escape in sight.
Psychologically vaulted.
.
.
.
PHASE 3
And so, if Izuku is being manipulated to drive himself further and further into self-destruction, what then is there left for All For One to do?
So much more. Because, my god, I think AFO has mastered the art of traumatizing the OFA Holders.
All For One once told All Might, “I will destroy all that you’ve protected.” And boy, is he delivering. He's definitely not done with AM btw.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
First, he destroys All Might's image. And he is manipulating Izuku to drive himself to that point. To looking into his absolute worst.
And when that point arrives, AFO will hammer the final nail home.
Something like...
BEHOLD
Tumblr media
JAPAN’S SYMBOL OF PEACE.
And oh, how it'll hurt. To see All Might's pride and joy be flaunted about as looking nothing like a hero to the masses, for him to be so utterly humiliated.
"See what I did to All Might's successor."
AFO will be banking upon the possibility that the angry masses will not want to be saved by whom they're tricked into viewing as someone that's the cause of all the pain. Izuku might have the willpower to stay true to his resolve, but with him on the verge of total breakdown, what would happen when he is shunned by the very people he is trying to help?
I once wrote a post about how the current events seem to be a bastardization of Izuku's wildest fantasies: he's working with the top pros, he has the most powerful quirk, and he's working with All Might (whom technically acts as a sidekick to him rn).
AFO has warped all that into a never-ending nightmare. And Izuku...
Izuku is really in need of saving.
Last thoughts:
Let me just say that it shouldn't be a competition about who gets to get through to Izuku. Right now, he’s gonna need all the help he can get, and it can’t be delivered by only one or two people. Saving Izuku is going to be a team effort, a solid support system that sees Izuku as their classmate/friend/student/actual person that they care about. And there’s sufficient space for that.
More hands reaching out means more chances to catch him if he falls.

It’s most definitely not an enemy to lover! If it was it would probably be better written. Thank you so much I have never felt such disdain before but it isn’t like me to be critical or spiteful. It’s just not in my nature but this ship and Bakugou REALLY push it. It likely it only got like this because of the fact Bakugou keeps some how reaching number 1. Not helped that I noticed many of the BakuDeku fans fell off the series wagon or are only anime. Mostly consuming media so most of their Bakugou love isn’t actually canon. The most damning thing about Bakugou is that he be better as a antagonist to Izuku not this protagonist. If they worked that angle it be so much better but also thank god during that ‘apology’ Izuku rejected being on first name basis with him. At least Horikoshi was able to keep him from actually forgiving despite the apology. Don’t know where people got the whole he forgives him he only accepted the apology. Accepting isn’t forgiving and Bakugou risking his life once is a start but doesn’t make up for everything. It’s a start of a conversation not a true redemption until Bakugou actually starts trying to be a better person! But status quo and all that ruining a good thing ugh. Like at least Endeavor dealing with consequences where Bakugou consequences!?!? (Thank you for letting me vent I really appreciate it.)
Yeah a lot of bakugou stans and bkdk shippers dont even follow the manga, or just read the chapters in which bakugou shows up, because they hope for bkdk crumps they can spam the main tag with it. There is a reason why the old bnha leaker always had to put the "no bakugou in this chapter" warning every fucking time in the leaks, so the stans wouldnt rant over what a waste of time the chapter was!
I disagree with izuku accepting bakugkus apology! He neither accepted it nor did he say one word about forgiving bakugou later after he returned to ua. Izuku still hasnt said anything regarding the apology, didnt even reacted to it, because he was simply in no right mental condition to process what bakugou said! He was tired, he was hurt and hungry, he was sad and angry he was absolutely not in the right mind! Bakugou choose the moment for his apology in which izuku was not mentally ready to react properly to it. Lost his consciousness the very next moment! The apology was not for izukus sake, it was for bakugous! If it had been for his sake, bakugou would have choosen a privat moment under 4 eyes after izuku was mentally stable enough again to react properly to it and not under the eyes and ears of their whole class, who have no idea what actually happened between the two! For gods sake they all think what bakugou did to izuku was giving him mean names, not one of them has any idea HOW BAD it was and HOW LONG the abuse lasted! A WHOLE DECADE! The same length as shotos abuse from his father! But hey only one of this things is a crime, not the other, because of bakugous age! Sorry to tell his stans that, but with 15/16 you are old enough to get the difference between right and wrong! And he needed over 10 years for an "apology" that at the end was only done out of his selfpity! Because he felt bad for HIMSELF, not for his victim! He wanted it to be done and move on and he was most likely sure izuku will think the same way, because thats how izuku always was! But fact is izuku neither accepted the "apology" nor has he forgiven bakugou yet! The question is more if hori will go deeper with it, or if he just wanted the apology to be done to please bakugou haters, but choose to do it in the most terrible and disrespectful way possible!
When it comes to endeavors arc Im more neutral. Im by no means an endeavor fan, but I can see that he is at least really trying to be a better hero and more important to be a better father. Unlike bakugou stans who will attack his haters, I would never attack endeavor haters, simply because I respect their opinion and view, even if I may not completly agree with them! What both endeavor and bakugou did is for many people very personal. Its absolutely disrespectful to say what happened to shoto was more terrible then what happened to izuku! Shoto was abused by his father, while izuku was abused by bakugou, bullied by his whole class and even the teachers and shunned out by society for being born different then the rest! Both is EQUALLY terrible! Both izuku and shoto were almost still babys when the abuse startet and both had to live a whole decade with it!
And yes at least endeavor in facing the full consequences of his actions! Some people will say its not enough, but at least there is something! We bakugou haters have to live with the possebility that bakugou will never have to face anything, simply because of his crazy fanbase!

The final match and the wrap-up of the festival. Surely this will be an epic match for the ages, right?
[No. 43 - Todoroki vs. Bakugou]
And we are ready to start the final match-
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alright, so it’s been a hot minute since I bothered with translation stuff, but here I am once again curious enough to spend an hour on this. I’ll keep the summarization short for reading convenience:
Tumblr media
All Might poster:
信用 (shinyou) [confidence, trust, faith, reputation] [credit (finance]
策 (saku) [scheme, plan, policy, step, means]
In-setting, this is probably some kind of credit plan advertisement. Narratively speaking, however, this could very well be a reference to All Might’s long-term plan to inspire trust and faith in the population by posing as a natural hero, and doing everything he’s been doing.
I don’t really want to try and tackle anything else here, but I am glad I at least tackled that All Might ad. Anywho, on with the actual plot.
The final match is being televised across the country, with everyone’s eyes on the two as they stare each other down. Katsuki is fired up to win this, while Shouto is much more calm and focused.
The moment the match starts, Shouto throws out a huge glacier of ice, pretty much as large as the one he engulfed Sero with. Present Mic comments on the gauntlet being thrown down, and how Shouto wants to avoid close combat. Do they have their winner already? Izuku realizes how Shouto had carefully aimed that attack while staying on guard - it’s totally different than when he fought Sero.
And it’s a good thing Shouto stayed on guard, as can be heard in the thunking inside the ice in before Katsuki literally blasts his way out, sending ice shards flying into Shouto’s face.
Tumblr media
Katsuki blocked the ice with an explosions and started digging his way through like a mole. As Katsuki prepares himself for Shouto’s next attack, he thinks on how a strong quirk like Shouto’s means his attacks aren’t that precise. He demonstrates this when he throws himself over Shouto’s head and ice with a well-timed explosion, grabbing Shouto’s hair and shoulder as he flies past him. Izuku is impressed with the move, as is Ochako.
As Katsuki hits the ground feet-first, he uses his momentum to fling Shouto out towards the edge of the ring while demanding to know if Shouto is looking down on him. Shouto just manages to keep himself in by throwing a ring of ice behind himself to catch him at the edge. However, Katsuki is already rushing in with a wide right hook as he comes in on Shouto’s left side. Shouto responds by just barely dodging the blast, grabbing Katsuki’s arm. Endeavor wants Shouto to use his fire, and I just.
Tumblr media
Give me a moment, I want to emphasise how stupid it would have been for Shouto to use his fire in this exact moment, and not even narratively speaking. Like yeah, let’s totally a) give Katsuki x degree burns while also b) setting off all the sweat on his hand/possibly body and c) likely blowing away all of Shouto's defensive ice keeping him from ringing out and d) probably knocking shouto out anyways, since Katsuki has concussion resistance (i'm thinking) and shouto very clearly Does Not.
(facepalms)
Endeavor, please, you’re a pro hero. You’ve seen Katsuki’s quirk. Please take five seconds and think of how bad that plan would have gone. Please, sir.
Tumblr media
Back to the story. There’s a beat where Katsuki and Shouto both realize the opportunity is there - but then it passes as Katsuki throws himself backwards and out of Shouto’s grip. Katsuki is annoyed he’s apparently not good enough for Shouto’s fire, which, AGAIN, I would like to reference my above rant. Even if on second thought, Katsuki might be heat-resistant enough to take those flames (or at least think he can).
Tumblr media
Aizawa pieces together that Katsuki had timed all his explosions just so he could get caught by Shouto’s left hand. He’s feeling him out. Katsuki’s honing his battle instinct with every fight. Shouto is moving pretty well, too, but his attacks are lacking. He’s lost his drive ever since his match against Izuku.
Katsuki states that Shouto will regret making a fool of him. He’ll kill him - he’s taking the first to end all firsts! There’s no point in winning against some half-assed punk. No point if he can’t do batter than Deku. So if he’s not trying to win, get the hell out of his face. Why is he even here?
Tumblr media
Shouto’s mind is fuzzy static - or at least, the way it panel is formatted makes it seem like it. Which makes sense, considering he’s just had all his personal trauma dredged back up and bouncing around in his head. He mentally apologizes to Katsuki, and that since he fought Izuku, he just doesn’t know what he should do, whether or not what he’s doing is right. He’s not sure about anything anymore.
As Katsuki throws himself up into the air for another attack, Izuku shouts at Shouto from the stands to not lose. Shouto jolts, teeth grit, and for a moment it seems like he’s found a second wind. Katsuki’s annoyed for just a moment, but then is elated; if Shouto’s gonna fight, fight to win. Katsuki starts spinning himself in a tight circle in the air while Shouto braces himself. Katsuki spins in with the force of a hurricane, while Shouto’s flames start to pick up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Katsuki’s ultimate attack hits, meeting no resistance. Present Mic notes how Katsuki’s taken that massive firepower he showed in the fight against Ochako and added some spin and oomph to become a human artillery shell. But Shouto doesn’t seem to have fired off that heat blast he showed when fighting Izuku. In the end…
Katsuki’s lying flat on the floor, eyes wide in disbelief as he catches up on what just happened - Shouto snuffed out his flames. And now, he’s well outside the ring, unconscious on top of a pile of ice boulders.
Honestly, I love how Hori handled this bit right here. The two panels I picked are beautiful bits of storytelling and characterization, and honestly a welcome change from other manga where the character just gets over their trauma all at once. Like you can tell that Shouto is in no place to be using his fire - or even fighting at all. And Shouto, in that instant, recognizes that and accepts that he can’t win here, that he doesn’t even want to win. He just wants the match to be over so he can sit down somewhere and think without being interrupted by everyone and everything.
Katsuki, however, can’t accept that so easily. He shoves himself onto his feet, stumbling his way over to where Shouto is lying unconscious. He grabs Shouto by the front of his shirt and yanks him up, demanding he stop messing around. He doesn’t want this win, not like this…
Tumblr media
and he passes out from Midnight using her quirk, thumping to the ground next to Shouto.
Honestly, that look in his eyes wasn’t anger, that was distress. Probably distress for once again falling short of his own expectations, for a fight that feels unfinished. I doubt he was actually going to hurt Shouto - at most, he probably would have dropped him back to the ice and tossed a few explosions out at nothing to vent. Which probably would have looked bad, but not NEARLY as bad as what UA is about to pull in the next chapter.
Izuku looks put out himself, with no idea what to think or feel about this outcome. Midnight confirms that with Shouto out of bounds, Katsuki is the winner. And with that, the competition is concluded. The first-year winner of UA’s sports festival is Bakugou Katsuki of class A.
Tumblr media
Even in his sleep, he looks distressed.
Man, this chapter. Can’t believe we’re only one away from wrapping up the arc. I’ll see y’all tomorrow for the finale.

Negative Reinforcement
Bakugou Katsuki/Midoriya Izuku one shot.
Summary: Bakugou Katsuki was the last person who should be picked to give emotional support- especially when he's stuck in a hospital room and bored out of his mind, but Izuku had shut down after their battle with Shigaraki, blaming himself for not being able to stop the carnage. When not even their classmates can pull him out of his mood Katsuki takes it into his own hands.
Aka, Katsuki has to cheer up Izuku and it goes surprisingly well.

Author’s Notes: I'm not really happy with how this turned out honestly. I loved the idea but I struggled to write it well, forgive me. Anyway, wanted to post it before the leaks for the new chapter come out and break me. This is my fluffy interpretation of what should happen but watch Hori stamp on my dreams.
Set right after chapter 296, there are many spoilers ahead and a few guesses about what will happen next! Thank you for reading and please leave some constructive feedback if you can! I'm still very new to writing fics like this.
Cross posted on my AO3 account, the link to which is in my bio if you’d prefer to read it there.
Rest of the work below the line!
Negative Reinforcement
If there were two things Katsuki hated more than he hated everything else the first would be hospitals. The sour smell of disinfectant that clung to each surface and the constant background hum of machines slowly drove him insane, that combined with Katsuki's own opinion that he'd spent enough time in the damned places already did not make them appealing to him. The second most hated thing would be dealing with other people's emotions. Hell- it was tiring enough having to figure out his own, let alone being expected to somehow know what other people were feeling and even if he got that bit right he was still meant to act accordingly. It was exhausting, so he tried to avoid it whenever he could. In this situation, avoiding it was not possible.
When Katsuki first woke up his thoughts had been jumbled, fleeting and fearful, considering the last thing he could remember was bleeding out in a ruined city it seemed fair enough. The room had been dark, cast in shadow with only the soft flashing lights of various medical devices to give any indication that Katsuki hadn’t been thrown into a void. He’d tossed fitfully in the hospital bed for a second, not quite grasping his surroundings and cried out as white-hot pain shot across his chest as if someone were tugging on his insides. “Kacchan?” The familiar voice was quiet but echoed with desperation and Katsuki frantically sought out its source, twisting his head, eyes finally adjusting to the gloom until he could make out a dark mound on the far side of the room that was moving. Katsuki finally separated the figure from the pile of blankets and pillows, ruffled hair stuck out in all directions and if he tried hard enough, Katsuki had been able to make out the faint gleam of green eyes piercing through the darkness locked directly onto him. “Thank goodness.” Izuku breathed as he saw Katsuki twist to look at him, his form slumped again, fading back into the shapeless mass of the hospital bed and Katsuki twitched anxiously in response. He felt completely disorientated, the thoughts in his head were moving too fast to pin down.
He’d tried to respond but his mouth felt dry and his tongue heavy, barely managing to rasp Izuku’s name in a thick croaky voice he wasn’t sure the other could even hear, struggling to lift the medicated fog that wrapped heavily around his mind like a thick blanket. Mingled feelings of relief and fear flitted around his head as he began to remember the carnage and bloodshed- Izuku was here, he had made it out and that alone calmed Katsuki enough to relax back into the bed. But what about everyone else?  Their classmates had been fighting their own battles all over the city. He had barely been able to focus but managed to form a few words, “The others?” Each breath, every swallow and twitch of his head sent fresh waves of pain rippling through his body, black spots threatened to overcome his vision but he fought through it. He could almost feel the other boy hesitating, it made him more distressed. “The class is fine.” Izuku had told him at last in a heavy voice, “You should go back to sleep.” Katsuki could remember thinking how defeated the other teen sounded. He’d ground his teeth together, feeling frustration building in the pit of his stomach that he was so helpless, unable to do anything more than shake and let his eyes fall shut again, slipping back into a fitful rest.
He woke the next day, feeling much more himself and determined to find out exactly what had happened but was immediately shut down by Recovery Girl who insisted he had to stay in bed or risk an even longer ban from training. Though, if he was honest, he wasn’t sure if he would’ve been able to stand up, let alone shake someone down for answers. Katsuki then tried to interrogate Izuku about it but the freckled nerd was annoyingly quiet for a change, spending most of his time with his back to Katsuki facing the bare white walls of the room. It was worrying, to say the least. Katsuki tried to tell himself that Izuku was just recovering from the wounds he’d sustained from All For One, damage that might not ever heal according to Recovery Girl. Izuku might never be able to use his arms in battle again.
Another day crawled by insufferably slowly. The only people allowed in their room had been Recovery Girl and a few different nurses who would bring food and water, all of which had clammed up the second Katsuki tried to ask them for news. He was frustrated with being talked over again and again, his hands tingled with a need to blow something up. So even by his own standards, he was in a lousy mood when their classmates were finally able to visit. Recovery Girl had forbidden the entire class from coming, “Only a few at a time.” She’d said as she’d been checking on their bandages, “If either of you reopens your wounds then I’ll have to put in overtime, and I won’t be quite so nice.” Katsuki snorted, tapping his fingers against the side of the bed impatiently. He’d spent the morning trying to coax a conversation out of Izuku. Well, not so much coax as annoy or tease, but they were solid tactics that usually got a reaction. Today, however, he got nothing more than one-word replies until Katsuki had gotten so annoyed he’d just given up completely. He’d prefer it if Izuku would just yell at him, yelling he understood. Just say Katsuki had made him mad, anything other than this stony silence. It had Katsuki on edge.
He was brought back to the present as he saw Izuku move so he was sat up in the bed facing the door. Katsuki could finally see his face properly for the first time. It looked drawn and tired, eyes that were usually bright stared blankly at the wall and there were dark bags under them. Katsuki briefly wondered how much Izuku had actually been sleeping while he was turned away from him. He thought again about trying to get his attention but then the door swung open, banging against the wall noisily and making Recovery Girl tsk in irritation. Iida was the first through the door, his face was still bruised slightly in places and his wrist had some kind of support on it but other than that he seemed okay. “We are here to represent the class!” The dark-haired teen announced. His good hand gripped a mixture of brightly coloured heart-shaped balloons all with ‘ Get well soon!’ scrawled across them. Katsuki’s eye twitched. He’d never wanted to leave a room more than he had at this moment. The others were filing in now. Including Iida, Uraraka, Todoroki, Mina, Kirishima, and Sero were the first ones who’d come to see them. They all bore marks of the battle in some way shape or form. Todoroki had a bandage wrapped around part of his face and Kirishima’s left arm was heavily bandaged. The rest had scratches that had been taped up but it was their expressions that made Katsuki realise something was wrong.
They entered the room with forced smiles which were surprisingly eerie and didn’t match the dullness in their eyes. They all looked so tired. Though when they saw Katsuki and Izuku both sat up in their beds, watching them, they did seem to brighten up. Mina was the first to move forwards, dropping to perch on the edge of Katsuki’s bed with a loud exhalation, “You two had us all worried!” Iida was now tying his balloons to the leg of a table between the two beds and Uraraka hurried forwards carrying an assortment of chocolate that she put on the table as well. She then turned to Izuku with a nervous smile. He was regarding their classmates with a far-away look in his eyes but he did meet Uraraka’s gaze. “We uh- got those mint chocolates you like.” She began awkwardly, “How are you feeling?” Katsuki watched the exchange with narrowed eyes. He could tell she was taken aback by Izuku’s state but she was doing a poor job of hiding it. For a moment Katsuki wasn’t sure if the green-haired boy was even going to respond, then, at last, he smiled faintly, though it seemed more like a grimace, and said, “I’m okay.” A brief rush of relief hit Katsuki as he saw the boy sit up a little more, though he still had that glazed expression.
Then Katsuki’s view of them was blocked by Sero and Kirishima who moved a few of the visitors' chairs to crowd around his bed. “It’s so good to see you, man!” Kirishima exclaimed, he had a grin on his face and patted Katsuki on his non-bandaged shoulder as he sat down. “They told us you guys were fine but they wouldn’t let anyone come near you. Are you doing okay?” Katsuki growled and picked at a spot on his bedsheet where the thread had come loose, “I’m just about ready to break out of here, consequences be fucked.” Sero chuckled sympathetically and glanced around at the very clean, very sparse room, “Pretty bored then huh?” Katsuki’s patience was thinning rapidly. He was glad to see them all in one piece but if he had to walk around social niceties to get a straight answer from someone he really was going to lose it. “Not just that,” He snapped, “No one here will tell me anything. What the hell happened after the battle?” He didn’t miss the way Mina caught Kirishima’s eye with a startled expression as he turned to look at each of them in turn. When no one offered up a quick answer Katsuki had to stifle another growl, they were holding something back from him and he knew it. “I know we’re here because the bastard set his Nomu’s loose or whatever and they thought they’d come after us, but why hasn’t anyone told us anything? All Mig-” Katsuki broke off and stared bitterly at his hands. He’d been about to say All Might hasn’t even been to see Deku but he didn’t want Izuku to overhear him. He could hear Todoroki talking faintly in the background so he hoped the other invalid teen hadn’t been listening to him about to point out the obvious but Katsuki was mad the former symbol of peace hadn’t been to see them yet. If anyone could pull Izuku out of whatever stupid funk he was in, it would be All Might.
“Bakugou…” Kirishima started warily, “A lot happened, we’re-” He stopped mid-sentence and glanced helplessly at Sero. “We’re not supposed to say much.” Sero finished for the redhead, “They said you needed more time to heal befo-” “Fuck that.” Katsuki snarled, his stomach was twisted into knots with anticipation. He wanted to stomp his foot like a child. Maybe break something against a wall. If they left without giving him any answers he didn’t know how much longer he’d have to wait to have another chance. They were all watching him with concern and Katsuki realised he’d been gripping the covers tightly in his fists. He let go quickly but he’d already left scorch marks smouldering in the pale blue sheets. He struggled to relax his jaw and tried again, “If I have to lie here one more day without knowing what’s going on out there, I really will get out of bed and find out myself. That sound like a great way to heal to you?”
It was Sero who broke first, “I guess, I don’t think I could stay still either.” He admitted, looking at Kirishima who sighed but murmured in agreement. “He does have a point,” Mina said from where she was still sitting at the end of the bed, “And I wouldn’t put it past him to sneak out.” She stuck her tongue out playfully as Katsuki glowered at her, but he was silently glad to see her acting normal. Kirishima breathed out heavily, slumping forwards in the chair and meeting Katsuki’s gaze. “What do you want to know first?” “How is everyone?” Katsuki asked immediately, “We could only get them to tell us no one else from the class was in hospital but that was pretty much it.” Smiling softly, Kirishima nodded, “Everyone’s okay. Kaminari wanted to come today but he’s still on bed rest.” He waved a hand as Katsuki opened his mouth, “Just in his dorm. He got a pretty bad knock to the head but he’s fine, really.” Katsuki closed his mouth and eyed the others quietly. There was still something they hadn’t told him, he could see it in their faces, in the smiles that looked too fake and the unspoken grief he could feel around them.
“What happened?” Was all he asked, “Something went wrong, didn’t it?” He could almost see their facade’s failing, Kirishima wouldn’t meet his eyes now and seemed very interested in his hands while Sero leaned further back into his chair, tugging subconsciously at the hem of his shirt. Mina’s head dropped and Katsuki could see her bottom lip trembling as she stared down at the floor, when Kirishima offered a hand to her she took it and clutched it tightly, like a lifeline. Her entire demeanour changed in a few short moments. Whatever had happened, it really distressed her. There was another silent moment before Kirishima started talking again, “You were there when Aizawa sensei was hit with a quirk deleter round?” Katsuki nodded grimly, “He took his own leg off, I saw.” The redhead winced, “He’s still recovering, it was bad.” “But he’ll be okay?” It was Sero who answered, “We haven’t been able to see him yet but Shinsou said he’s doing better.” Katsuki wanted to relax but the other’s tone of voice sounded heavy. “There’s something else…” Kirishima began, “When we were trying to keep Gigantomachia from reaching the city we…” Another deep breath and his bright red eyes looked watery. “We lost Midnight.” Mina’s shoulders shook and her body convulsed in a choked sob but Katsuki could only stare in disbelief. Midnight had been their teacher for almost a year, she couldn’t just be gone. Katsuki’s focus wavered, his mind drifting. He could tell from their reactions what they meant and felt a deep pit open in his stomach. After everything that had happened, all the fighting, he never thought they’d actually lose someone. God, he was fucking naive.
The others gave him a little while to process it and Katsuki found himself wishing for the umpteenth time that he was anywhere else. “Bakugou?” Sero asked eventually and Katsuki quickly returned his attention to them. Mina’s eyes were red around the edges and he knew now why they all looked so drained. “How did it happen?” He managed to ask. His body felt oddly numb but when he spoke his voice sounded unsteady, even to himself. Mina leant forwards and breathed out shakily, “W- we don’t really know. We hadn’t heard from her and then we just found her, lying there.” Tears trailed down her pink cheeks and she lifted her free hand as if she was reaching for something. “I was- I held her hand.” Her voice ended in a whisper, dark eyes hazy. Katsuki shifted uncomfortably, glancing away. He didn’t like being confined in one space for moments like this, it made him feel nervous as if he were trapped. Kirishima was trying to comfort Mina though he seemed just as broken down himself. Sero watched them sadly for a moment before glancing back at Katsuki, “Other heroes were killed too. No one we knew well but they got the number 6 hero, Crust.” The dark-haired teen hesitated before continuing as if he wasn’t sure how much he should say. “Most of the big heroes are out of action. Hawks and Endeavour are still in bad condition, Miruko as well. But they’ll heal.” He sounded unsure of himself. The numbness settled a little deeper into Katsuki and he closed his eyes. All the destruction he’d seen from Shigaraki’s quirk and then Gigantomachia tearing the city apart, he didn’t want to ask about civilian casualties.
There was silence then, nothing more to say really. Sero returned to consoling the other two, whether he was unsure of how to do the same for Katsuki or thought the blonde wanted the space Katsuki couldn’t tell, but he was grateful for it. During the break from their conversation, he tried to focus on what his other classmates were saying to Izuku. They’d arranged themselves near the freckled teen’s head and Uraraka was saying something in an upbeat voice. “Recovery Girl said you’d be okay to go outside for a bit,” the round-faced girl was saying, “Stretch your legs, maybe see Eri. She’s worried about you.” Todoroki and Iida murmured agreement but Katsuki could make out Izuku’s face between Kirishima and Sero now, he still had his eyes fixed downwards with that subdued look on his face. Katsuki wondered if they’d told Izuku about Midnight or if they thought he couldn’t handle it yet. “Maybe.” Izuku replied, Katsuki was vaguely relieved to hear this voice sounding a little louder, “I’m still really tired.” Uraraka and Iida exchanged glances. “We can uh- leave you to rest a bit more?” Iida asked though he sounded like he didn’t want to. When Izuku simply nodded mutely and settled back down into the bed, turning to face his back to them, Iida’s face fell. He said something quietly to Todoroki and Uraraka that Katsuki couldn’t make out but the three of them got up and made their way dejectedly towards Mina and the others. Katsuki wanted to yell at them to keep talking to him but he just stared worriedly at Izuku’s back, if he was refusing to talk to his friends, how could Katsuki get him to say anything?
Uraraka joined Mina at the foot of the bed, Katsuki felt the mattress shift beneath her weight as she put her head in her hands. Mina patted her on the back and Iida stood in front of her, looking concerned. Todoroki had come to stand closer to the Katsuki. He leaned forwards slightly, “Has he said anything to you?” He asked quietly, his eyes were anxious and Katsuki knew he was just as worried about Izuku. Katsuki wrinkled his face, not pleased with the fact he hadn’t, “No.” He returned to picking at the loose thread on his mattress. For a second, he thought he saw Todoroki smile faintly as if Katsuki’s reaction had amused him. But when he looked up, it was gone. “I feel so helpless,” Uraraka said through her hands, catching the blonde’s attention again. “He’s just…” She trailed off miserably and looked back up at the rest of them. Iida reached out to rest his hand tentatively on her shoulder and squeezed it gently. She gave him a weak smile in reply but still looked close to tears. Katsuki hated to agree with her but as he glanced across at the pitiful figure of Izuku, still curled up against the wall, his heart thumped uncomfortably hard in his chest. He felt like he needed to confront something, preferably something physical. If he could just get out of bed and blow off some steam maybe he’d be able to think clearly. But no. He was trapped here, in bed, with a bunch of emotional teenagers and no anger outlet. Definitely a worst-case scenario.
Katsuki finally drew his eyes away from Izuku as he saw Kirishima shift in his chair. He exchanged an apprehensive look with Sero and opened his mouth as if he were going to say something more. “Bakugou...” But Iida cut in before he could get anywhere. “We should let you get some rest.” Iida fixed Kirishima with a pointed look and the spiky-haired teen glanced away, still looking guilty. They all made a move to get up but Katsuki spoke first. He wasn’t going to let them leave without telling him the truth. The whole truth. “What are you hiding from me now?” He demanded, his voice bitter. He’d had enough of all the secrets now. More glances were exchanged between the visiting party and Katsuki furrowed his brow even deeper. “Tell me or get the fuck out.” He snapped at them, patience far beyond gone. If they wanted to keep shit from him, that was fine. Well, it wasn’t actually but he didn’t want them here if that was the case and if they kept looking at him like some fragile thing he was going to go feral.
Iida sighed at Katsuki’s brash tone and pushed his glasses further up his nose. He cast a look over his shoulder at where Izuku lay unmoving and shuffled closer to Katsuki, speaking in a low voice as if he didn’t want the other teen to hear him. “None of the teachers wanted us to tell you, but…”  Another pause as he built up the nerve to continue. Katsuki blinked in surprise and his anger faded slightly. Iida going rogue? The strict class representative was finally getting interesting. Iida stole a glance at where Recovery Girl was sitting in her usual chair in the far corner, head bowed as if she were dozing. She certainly wasn’t paying them any attention. “You’re being kept behind U.A’s defences because not long after Shigaraki disappeared, he sent his Nomu’s to Tartarus.” A cold feeling was beginning to settle in Katsuki’s stomach, “All For One’s prison.” He murmured. Iida nodded gravely, “Yes. Most of the top pro-heroes were still out of action or unaccounted for- There was no one to stop him. He took back his real body and broke out some more nasty criminals along the way. No one’s seen him since.”
If All For One had his body back and control of Shigaraki’s powers as well as the Nomu, everything they’d sacrificed… Had it done anything? Katsuki shook his head as if shaking away the thought. No, he couldn’t think like that. They’d saved most of the city just by holding Shigaraki down, Gigantomachia too, it hadn’t been useless. He side-eyed Izuku’s bed again. Was it just his imagination or had the boy shifted slightly in his peripheral vision? Returning his attention to the others, Katsuki clenched his fists. Though he wasn’t happy that they were being guarded, he could admit it made a lot of sense. The U.A Barrier was pretty formidable but he wasn’t sure it could hold off the bastard if he really wanted to get to them. Another flicker of movement in the corner of his eye and Katsuki was sure of it now. “You should go.” He said to them. Kirishima started, “W- Bakugou, are-” Rolling his eyes, Katsuki interrupted him. “I’m sure, Shitty-Hair. Get going, I want to sleep.” The redhead hesitated then nodded slowly and got up. The others said their goodbyes and did the same, stacking the visitors’ chairs back up and piling them in the corner before heading for the door.
Katsuki was so focused on watching Izuku for more movement he didn’t realise Todoroki was lingering by the edge of his bed until he coughed. The other teen kept his voice low as he said to Katsuki, “You’ll talk to him, won’t you?” Katsuki knew what he meant instantly and scowled, “What do you think I’m doing, bastard?” Now piss off.” Todoroki backed off, but Katsuki could see that same knowing smile on his face as he turned away. Though he tried not to focus on it, Katsuki’s face felt flushed and he glared angrily at Todoroki’s retreating back. Soon, their classmates were gone and the room felt bare once again. Though Katsuki had been sure Recovery Girl was asleep, the moment the door swung shut she got slowly to her feet. The old medic gave Katsuki a wry smile. “I’ve got other things to get done. You two rest.” She paused, “and heal .” The emphasis she put on the last word made Katsuki uncomfortable again and he was sure she knew exactly what they’d been talking about. Then she left and it was just the two of them.
Katsuki took a deep breath and glanced across at the other bed. Izuku was still, his back turned to the room, looking pretty much dead to the world like he had done for the last few days. But Katsuki had been sure he’d seen him twitch when Iida had spoken of All For One. He was awake, and he must have heard what their classmates had said. “You should talk to them.” He said before he could lose his nerve. Izuku stiffened from across the room and Katsuki waited before continuing, “They’re worried about you.” The silence between them stretched longer and Katsuki was sure Izuku would just ignore him as he had done since he’d woken up here until finally, he shifted. “And tell them what?” The green-haired boy’s voice sounded so tired and bitter that Katsuki winced. He’d never seen Izuku so hopeless before. He’d always been the first to bounce back from everything, it was one of his most irritating qualities. “The truth. They want to help you, idiot.” More silence, then at last, “What is the truth?” Even quieter than before and Katsuki had to strain to hear it. Katsuki blinked, “Huh?” What the hell was he talking about? Izuku rolled onto his back and Katsuki caught a glimpse of his face. It was streaked with tears, more running silently down his cheeks and Katsuki’s chest tightened painfully. “The truth,” Izuku repeated, his voice catching in his throat. “That I wasn’t able to stop All For One. I was given this power to be a hero and I couldn’t even protect the people I care about the most.” Katsuki gawked incredulously at him, “ That’s what you’ve been upset about?” He demanded, “You have got to be the thickest person I h-” He broke off abruptly as Izuku lifted one of his heavily bandaged arms in front of his face. “Hey! Stop it. You’re not supposed to move them.” But the freckled teen didn’t seem to hear him, “All For One was right.” He murmured, “I’m worthless, I don’t deserve this power.”
Katsuki could only stare at him in shock- It was one of the last things he’d expected Izuku to be hung up over after everything he’d seen him accomplish in a single year. He struggled vainly to find something to say. This was the exact opposite of what he was good at. Izuku had dropped his hand back to his side, staring emptily at the ceiling, and Katsuki’s stomach twisted painfully again. Part of him just wanted to yell at the dumbass about how, well, dumb he was being. Could he not see everything he’d done? All the lives he’d saved? But his mouth felt thick and heavy, his heart pounded so loud now and he had to bite down on his tongue to stop from cursing himself. This was pathetic, not even able to tell Izuku, someone he’d been willing to die for, that he was impressed with him. What kind of person did he have to be to find jumping in front of those spikes easier than admitting he was wrong? If he was doing this it would be his way. The first step was to make Izuku realise how stupid he sounded.
“Deku.” He said after a few minutes of silence had passed, “Come here a second.” Wide confused eyes stared at him, “W-what?” “Come here.” He repeated. “Why?” Katsuki’s eye twitched, “Because I can’t get up and- Fuck’s sake, just move it!” The bedsheets rustled softly as Izuku pushed them aside and slowly got up. It was a bit awkward, not being able to use his arms to prop himself up, but he managed it and then stood there, pausing for a moment before he walked cautiously over to where Katsuki lay. He stopped near the top of the bed and Katsuki huffed in annoyance, beckoning the other one closer. Izuku still looked confused but shuffled another few steps forwards, leaning down until he was close enough for Katsuki to whack him upside the head. It wasn’t a particularly hard hit but Izuku still yelped and stared at Katsuki in disbelief, “What was that for?!” He whined loudly. Katsuki couldn’t help but smile slightly at the indignance in his voice, it felt like a long time since Izuku’s voice had sounded anything but broken. “Negative reinforcement,” he said, “When you say something stupid about yourself, I get to hit you.” Narrowed green eyes met his own but he was sure they seemed more focused than before. Katsuki sighed, shifting in his bed. “You really think you didn’t do anything to help?”
Izuku was watching him closely, his expression clouded with an emotion Katsuki couldn’t bring himself to figure out. But he didn’t reply so Katsuki continued. “For starters, the second you realised Shigaraki could track you, you led him away from the evacuation. Which was pretty fucking stupid because you tried to do it without telling anyone.” Izuku snorted but didn’t interrupt, he’d stopped crying now which was a win, right? Katsuki had to tear his eyes away from the teen, the itchiness he felt was back, crawling all over his skin until he ground his teeth together, hard. “Then you unlocked float,” Katsuki counted it down on his fingers as if he were making a list, “ And used blackwhip to keep everyone from being destroyed by decay.” Another finger down. “Kacchan…” Izuku said hesitantly and Katsuki glanced back up at him. Freckles stood out against a bright red face and he took another step forwards so he was right next to Katsuki’s bed. Katsuki raised an eyebrow, he was sure his own face was flushed too but he managed to keep his voice steady as he said, “What? Are you saying you didn’t do that?” Izuku shook his head slowly and Katsuki could swear he saw the hint of a smile begin to tug at his lips. “Exactly. Now shut the fuck up and let me tell it.” He heard a soft chuckle to his side and blinked rapidly, trying to remember where he’d stopped. It was an effort to keep talking. He didn’t like that reassuring someone else meant he had to say embarrassing things like this. “You managed to stop All For One from stealing your power then still got up and kept fighting him again. Am I missing anything?” Izuku was stood with his bowed, dark hair in his face but Katsuki could hear him sniffing and figured he was crying again.
Shoulders shaking slightly, Izuku looked back up and yep. He was definitely crying again. “I could only do that because you saved me! You, Lemillion, Todoroki, Iida, you all helped me. And I couldn’t even stop you from getting hurt!” Another sob shook him, “If I can’t protect the people I care about, what good am I?” Katsuki frowned and rapped Izuku’s head with his knuckles again. It wasn’t as hard as the first time, more like he was trying to knock some sense into him but it still made Izuku start. He stared at him, the tears in his eyes glittered in the harsh hospital lights and Katsuki faltered. He was sure his stomach was now trying to escape his body by making him want to throw it up but he drew in another breath to steady himself. “That’s our job, dumbass. We’re all trying to save as many people as we can.” Izuku shook his head, he moved forwards somewhat uncertainly to perch on the edge of the bed. It dipped slightly under his weigh and Katsuki moved further back towards the wall so Izuku could turn to face him, now sitting cross-legged on the sheets which took a degree of shuffling around. Katsuki was very aware of how Izuku’s knees were pressed against his side on the small space. It was through the sheets but he was sure he could feel it. When the other didn’t say anything about their new position, Izuku started again. “With One For All though, I’m meant to save everyone. That’s what I was given it for.” His gaze fell again, “Midnight, everyone who was killed, I should’ve saved them. But I couldn’t do it. I shouldn’t have this power.” He went silent, looking even more miserable. “They told you?” Katsuki asked. He tried to stay quiet but he was surprised Iida or either of the others would’ve said anything to him. Izuku shook his head glumly, “I heard the nurses talking when they thought I was asleep.”
Katsuki regarded him with a sad expression, that must’ve been why he’d been in such a slump, learning that their teacher was killed for the very thing he believed he should’ve prevented. He’d had the worlds biggest burden dropped on his shoulders in the middle of a war, but he wouldn’t ask anyone to help him carry it. Which was Katsuki’s fault. All through their childhood and then their teenage years, Izuku had just wanted to be included, he always tried so hard never to be a burden. Izuku glanced back up as he heard the other boy sigh, his face tinged pink, probably from all the crying, and Katsuki tried again. “Deku. You can’t save everyone, not all the time.” Izuku flinched and Katsuki hurried on, “Not even All Might could do that so stop putting so much pressure on yourself.” Those bright eyes were staring at him so intensely now but Katsuki couldn’t stop, Izuku had to hear this. He swallowed dryly, “All For One, One for All, they’re both cursed powers.” Izuku tilted his head to the side, “They’re not the same though,” He protested, “One For All is meant to help people.” Shaking his head, Katsuki struggled to sit up taller, ignoring Izuku’s worried protests. He had to make Izuku understand this. It was something he’d realised pretty soon after All Might told them about the other wielders of Izuku’s power.
“Just fucking listen, okay. One For All is only as good as whoever uses it. Every one of its past users died alone, trying to stop All For One because they thought like you. They thought they had to fight that bastard on their own so no one else would get hurt, but that’s exactly why they all died.” He stared straight into Izuku’s eyes, willing him to realise it. “If you keep trying to win by yourself then you’ll get killed. You have to let other people help you.” “But what if you get hurt again? What if you get killed? I don’t want that to happen!” Izuku’s voice was insistent, his eyes were set in the way Katsuki could tell he was going to be stubborn about it and his own temper flared up in retaliation. “What, and you think I’ll be okay if you die?!” The words were out of his mouth before he could think about them but he felt the heat creeping into his face as he realised what he said. It did succeed in silencing Izuku however, and Katsuki took the opportunity to keep talking. “Even if you did manage to defeat All For One, it wouldn’t be a victory for any of us-” He willed himself to say it again, “For me, if you get killed.” The heat was now spreading down his neck and he dropped his head to avoid Izuku’s gaze, frustration or something else was making his own vision blurry. The other boy was quiet and Katsuki very much wanted to curl up in a hole somewhere and think about what he’d just said for a few years or so. He resented how difficult this was. Neither of them moved until Katsuki heard Izuku sniff. He looked up in surprise to see more tears on the boys face. Had he said something wrong? Katsuki started to move forward and opened his mouth but Izuku shook his head, rubbing the tears off his cheeks with his shoulder. “Sorry, Kacchan. I’m just-” He sounded hoarse but there was a soft smile on his face, “When I was fighting Shigaraki, all I could think about was what would happen to you and everyone else that I-” “That you didn’t think about yourself.” Katsuki finished with a sigh, “I fucking hate that about you. Can’t be a hero if you’re dead, can you?” He’d meant it to be a rebuke but Izuku’s smile widened even more and he laughed. A proper laugh, the first time Katsuki had heard in what felt like forever, and he couldn’t help but relax at the sound of it. Okay, this sucked and he felt itchy all over, but it was rewarding to see the enthusiasm return to Izuku’s face.
The laugh faded and Izuku returned to staring at Katsuki with such a fond expression that he felt a sharp twinge of guilt in his gut. He knew Izuku had only ever wanted to be close again, like how it had been when they were kids, and he was still waiting after everything that Katsuki had done to him. Part of him wished Izuku would just hate him, it would be easier to understand for one thing. “Kacchan, thank you.” The soft voice broke him out of his thoughts, “Everything All For One said to me…” He trailed off and stared at his arms, still thickly bandaged and splinted. “I thought I had gotten past it but it made me feel so useless. I guess I’m still just Deku.” He said it so sadly that Katsuki felt the twinge grow into a gut-wrenching pain. That stupid nickname. Izuku had tried to reclaim it but it seemed he didn’t really believe it himself. Katsuki probably could have pulled his heart right out of his throat at this point, “Well, duh, Deku. You said you were always gonna try your best, right?” He tried to make it sound casual, but he was admitting to something he'd known for a while. That Deku hadn't meant worthless for a very long time.
The look of surprise on Izuku’s face only lasted for a second before his eyes filled with tears yet again, his bottom lip trembling as he sobbed out, “Kacchan.” Then he was launching himself towards Katsuki who promptly stiffened in shock. It was an incredibly uncomfortable hug to manoeuvre, it would've been without the weird position. Izuku couldn’t lift his arms so he sort of squished himself against Katsuki’s side, face mashed between Katsuki’s shoulder and neck. Katsuki’s heart was going haywire, he didn’t even notice the pain in his side and very slowly, he wrapped his good arm around Izuku’s shoulders, patting him clumsily on the back as he cried against his collarbone. “You’re pathetic,” He mumbled, uncomfortable with the silence, “Moping around for days and making everyone worry, bastard.” Izuku laughed between deep breaths, trying to stifle his sobs. “Should’ve said something earlier.” Izuku twisted his head so it was laying on Katsuki’s shoulder, “You’re meant to be nice to me, I’m upset.” He said though Katsuki could feel his lips curved in a smile against his skin. His face felt like it was on fire now, “This is me being nice, and you’re always upset about something.” “I know, thank you.” The other replied. Katsuki’s skin tingled where Izuku’s eyelashes fluttered against his neck, still blinking away tears. Katsuki wasn’t sure what to say after that. It was complicated. He knew Izuku needed him right now, but Katsuki hadn’t done enough to deserve it yet. It felt wrong to be so content that he was the one Izuku reached out for. Just be there for him now, he decided, be there for him and try harder to earn it.
He wasn’t sure exactly when Izuku fell asleep on him. At some point, his breathing evened out and he’d relaxed against Katsuki’s side. The blonde was still too wired to relax. Who knew a conversation could fill him with such adrenaline, he was struggling not to shift around and wake Izuku up. The boy had looked so tired, with everything he’d been holding in it wasn’t a surprise that he’d not gotten any peace. Katsuki hoped he would sleep soundly now. He was still awake when Recovery Girl stepped back into the room. She took one look at the two of them, curled up together on Katsuki’s bed and he was sure she’d say something about how they should be resting in separate beds, maybe she had to check their wounds or something and Izuku would be forced to move. He couldn’t lie that the thought made him a bit panicked. But she simply gave him a strange look, one eyebrow half-raised as if she were asking him a question. When Katsuki didn’t move the old lady shrugged, turning to leave again. She flicked off the light as she did so, leaving the room in dappled shadows as the sun sank lower in the sky. Was it that late already? He hadn’t noticed the time passing by but he was starting to feel tired. Emotions were just as draining, sometimes more so, than being in a fight, and Katsuki certainly felt like a battle had been won in that room today.
With a sigh, Katsuki accepted there wasn’t much more he could do at the moment. The warmth of Izuku against his side made him feel drowsy and he finally gave in- shifting in the bed as carefully as he could until he was lying down. He wrapped his arm a little more firmly against Izuku and smiled faintly as he felt him hum in response, pressing closer to Katsuki’s chest. Izuku was lying on top of the sheets and there wasn’t any way to get him under them without waking him up but there was a spare pile of blankets that rested on the chair closest to Katsuki’s bed and he managed to drag a couple closer to him, draping them over Izuku’s form. With that sorted, Katsuki could relax. He rested his head gently against the mass of green curls and let his eyes drift shut, trying to empty his mind. It didn’t matter if All For One was out to get them or if Izuku’s arms wouldn’t heal right. They were both alive for now, and they would figure it out.

can you tell me what you think about the kids at 1a?
hi anon, I'm sorry that I took so long to answer this, when I saw your ask I felt really lazy, because there's too many people in the class lol
this is going to be a long post, since we have 20 characters to cover, so I'm putting it under the cut
okay, first of all I want to say that I don't hate any of the kids at 1a besides mineta, BUT, I do have a feeling of indifference towards at least half of them and do dislike some, I always thought that the story would been benefited if there were less people in the classes, since hori would've been able to develop them better, so don't expect me to talk a lot about everyone. also, don't take everything that I say too seriously, this is not a character analysis, I'm just doing it for fun.
anyway, the order that I'm using to list them is their seating arrangement in the class, so let's start
yuga aoyama: I already said this here before but I really like aoyama, he's ridiculous in the best way possible, he feels like a character that horikoshi took away from ouran high school club or something. since the chapter where he and deku became friends were released I felt like he deserved more screentime, because his backstory about him thinking of himself as different than the other kids in the class because of his quirk being "defective" is really interesting, I always wanted to see more of his friendship with deku and he overcoming his fears (since he was shown to be easily frightened)
mina ashido: I LOVE mina, I think that her design is so cool and her personality is really likable, when we had the kirishima flashback and we saw her protecting her friends from machia even though she was scared too was the moment that I decided that we deserved to see more of her in the story, I really liked to see she having a bigger role for a female character in a shonen, I wasn't too bad in the war but I still want more
tsuyu asui: okay, this is going to be controversial because I feel like everyone likes her, but I feel really indifferent towards her, maybe I was influenced by one of my friends that really doesn't like her but since that scene where she says that going to rescue bakugo is the same as acting like villains I started to not care about her all that much, and yes, I know that she admitted that she was wrong and everything but yeah, I don't really click with her personality (but I don't hate her, please don't be mad at me kdbdgsusj)
tenya iida: ah, what a respectable little man iida is, I really like him, I think that the way that he take everything so seriously is hilarious, like him acting super dramatically in their exams to be as similar as possible to his vision of what a villain is. I really like how he grew since the stain arc and how he decided to be a hero that prioritizes the safety of others in detriment to fighting the villains. I'm really happy that he became the focus of the story lately and that he was the one who could hold deku's hand, I want him to have a bigger role in the story for now, maybe even encountering with stain again and showing to him that he's now a great hero
ochaco uraraka: I love her personality, she's really cute, and her fight with bakugo at the beginning of the story was a highlight to me back then, but, I feel like her character became too much attached to deku after aoyama made her realize that she likes him, almost felt like her personality was gone and her only defining feature was having a crush on him, anyway, thank god that apparently she's going to have importance right now in the story because she's too much of a cool character to become just the romance interest for the male lead
mashirao ojiro: denki playing with his tail is cute, I think that is funny how horikoshi always describes him as the plain one, it was cool when he refused to participate in the sports festival because he didn't felt like he deserved
denki kaminari: oh this sweet dumbass, I love him, he's so funny and cute, I think that is that funniest thing how he just decided to call bakugo "kacchan" and is super overly friendly with him and bakugo just lets him, I actually don't think that he's "stupid" as part of the fandom seems to think, I strongly believe that people can be smart in their own ways, maybe he's not the brightest in math for example but he already showed to be able to come up with strategies, I feel like denki has a lot of anxiety inside of him because of his quirk, but i also feel like he's really genuine in trying to be a hero, overall I really like him, he's really sweet
eijiro kirishima: this swee- I mean, super manly man is amazing, I feel like kirishima is for bnha what rock lee was for naruto, I really really really like him, I love his personality and I love even more his backstory, he's really a great person and he deserves all the love that he get from the fandom, I hope that we're going to see even more of him in the future
koji koda: he's adorable, his voice is really adorable the japanese dub, his quirk is like a disney princess
rikido sato: he bakes, I like cakes and pies, we would've been best friends
mezo shoji: since I saw that hori said that he uses his mask because people are afraid of him I'm impatiently waiting for his face to be shown, and if he doesn't look like a junji ito monster or something I'm going to be pretty disappointed, anyway, I like his personality, he was really cool at the forest arc (I clearly don't remember the arcs names, I'm sorry lol), and I feel like he could have a bigger role in the story if hori finally decides to address the prejudice against people with mutant quirks
kyoka jiro: she kind of reminds me of a girl that used to bully me in middle school because of the way that she treats denki but I still like her lol I liked how she learned that is okay liking to sing and music in general and being a hero at the same time, because after all a lot of people were saved by music and/or their favorite artists, but since I find her quirk so cool I wanted to she her fighting more
hanta sero: he's funny, even funnier than denki, he has a really relatable sense of humor and I love him for that, his quirk is really cool, but I feel kind of bad for him because deku now has practically the same one and he's not the only spiderman in the story anymore (his quirk being similar to spiderman was actually what made me like him in the first place because peter is my favorite hero ever)
fumikage tokoyami: my 12yo emo self shakes inside of me every time that I see him, anyway, I really like him, how would I not? he has a bird head, he's nice without being overly friendly and dark shadow is really cute, I don't really remember everything that happened in the war but I remember him saying to hawks that he believes in him, so I really wanted to see him frustrated at his mentor because of what he did to twice please horikoshi address the consequences of twice's death, I'm tired of waiting
shoto todoroki: ah my angel, shoto was the reason why I started reading the manga back in 2015, I knew that he was going to be my favorite just by seeing his character design. I love shoto, I want him to become the happiest person in the world because he really deserves it, I know that everyone thinks that deku is what an ideal hero looks like but o me it is shoto, he's kind, sweet, forgiving, has a heart made of gold and is just genuinely a good person, I could talk about him for a whole week without pause and still find more things to compliment about him so let's move on before I write over 10000 words about how much I love him
tooru hagakure: she... exists...
katsuki bakugo: while shoto is my favorite, I have to admit that bakugo has the best character development in the hero side of the story, I used to hate him at the beginning of the series but now I love him, a lot, he shows that horikoshi knows how to write a compelling redemption arc if he planned it since the beginning, I love that he started only having "fight" points at the entrance exam for ua to now having his first priority at saving people, bakugo is other that I could talk about for hours so let's move on
izuku midoriya: I like deku when he's not putting his nose at the todofam business, he's a good kid who needs some self esteem urgently, the way that he never seemed to care about his own well being always made me nervous, even though I never felt like he was in real danger, he's the mc for a reason, to summarize: I like him personality wise but some of the narrative choices that hori made for him are not my favorites
minoru mineta: I don't care, I hope for him to vanish from existence
momo yaoyorozu: she's the stereotypical anime girl with glasses (but without glasses in this case), I like her personality, she's really cute, her quirk is neat and she's super smart but, everytime that she puts her hero costume on... I feel super uncomfortable... this is not her fault of course but I think that I would like her even more if she was less sexualized
I could write more if I take more time to think, but I'm not going to do that today, if you want to know my opinion about other characters or something more specific about the kids feel free to send me other ask
also, I'm sorry if there's any atrocious grammar mistakes on this, I didn't reviewed the text and wrote just what I had in my head in the moment at four am

If Bakugou's "redemption" arc isnt as cathartic as Endeavor's has been I will be very disappointed. To make it clear though, I hate Endeavor but Im happy to see how everything is coming to bite him in the ass lmao I was afraid Hori was gonna kill him off cause that is too easy of a pass but this way is so much better yes please drag that bitch Touya Im loving it. If he cant do the same or something similar with Bakugou then wow. The favoritism towards a bully is sick, can his delusional stans stfu they look like clowns trying to excuse Bakuhoe's shitty behavior.
𝒜𝓉 𝓇𝒾𝓈𝓀 𝑜𝒻 𝓈𝑜𝓊𝓃𝒹𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝓁𝒾𝓀𝑒 𝒶𝓃 𝐸𝓃𝒹𝑒𝒶𝓋𝑜𝓇 𝓈𝓉𝒶𝓃...
Idk HOW you feel about Endeavor (I, personally, hate him and am trying to get custody of his kids but that’s besides the point) but his redemption arc is really good. Like it’s very good, it’s very well written and Endeavor is doing everything right, he’s letting his kids know he’s sorry and he’s trying to do better, he’s telling them he’s okay if they never forgive him because he’s never going to stop trying to be better for them, and he’s physically removing himself from the situation and letting his kids live with their mother without him so that they can all heal without him there. It’s also really nice cause you see that his family is reacting to his redemption. Touya has been driven crazy from the abuse and he’s obsessive in his vengeance against his father and wants to kill him. Fuyumi is ready to support him cause she’s always wanted to have a normal loving family and this is her chance to heal and hopefully help the rest of the family heal. Natsuo is angry and doesn’t believe he can forgive his father, he’s angry at what was stolen from him and he’s angry on behalf of Touya, Fuyumi, and Shouto. Shouto is in an unsure ground, he knows he hates his father but he really is starting to think that, if Endeavor is serious about changing, that maybe he can forgive him. Rei seems to believe in Endeavor’s changing and that he does love his kids, she seems to not hold a grudge against him even if she can’t handle being in the same room as him, and that’s okay. All of these are okay.
But Bakugou? Bakugou can’t even manage to say sorry to someone he’s abused for over ten years. He can’t even have an emotionally vulnerable moment with or towards Izuku without the presence of violence as well. He can’t express his anger towards Izuku or himself without beating up Izuku, and he can’t even express his regrets without sacrificing himself to protect Izuku, which would have only caused Izuku more grief and heartache had Bakugou died. Like besides Izuku being understandably and predictably angry at Tomura for Bakugou’s sacrifice, we don’t know how Izuku is feeling about  Bakugou’s redemption cause he doesn’t know it’s happening. To this point, Bakugou’s redemption has been about Bakugou and not about Izuku while Endeavor’s redemption has been about his wife and kids. Like if Endeavor is doing everything right, Bakugou is doing everything wrong and people really wanna say HE has the best character development when Endeavor is RIGHT THERE????

I'm just curious what your thoughts on Shigaraki are. Im praying he gets control back. I would be so sad if the body take over is dragged out. It looks like they are going the save Tomura route which is great but my thought is that means we won't get him back till the end.. I swear if they have Eri rewind him 😤 I hope it's OK to ask you this, if not please ignore and accept my apologies and have a good day. ☀️🌞
Ha ha it’s alright! I don’t mind talking about my favorite character, and musing out my thoughts about what might happen. Of course, keep in mind this is just my thoughts/viewpoint, and I would never say anything I muse out about this is a fact; I’m not the writer after all.  I’m just going over the story bits we already know and considering what could possibly be the story-direction we’re going towards!
(Also warning, this is probs gonna get a little long-winded because I have a lot of thoughts about this, and Tomura and Izuku’s stories are pretty tightly tied to the larger one at hand about the world they live in.)
To give you a short summary: I think Tomura might indeed stay possessed for a while, and perhaps Izuku could team up with his friends to help save him from this possession. I also don’t think Eri should be using her powers a whole lot right now in the story, given her trauma and age. She needs to heal herself first to avoid unintentionally causing more damage to her mental state. Trauma recovery takes time, often more than what we’ve seen so far in the manga.
And now for the long-winded explanation (under the cut so this post isn’t ridiculously long:)
So, considering the overall narration and themes Horikoshi has used in the manga, it feels reasonable to say that one of the end goals in all likeness is to “save” those the current society would not bother saving, including Tomura, and especially Tomura, considering his character and story kind of symbolizes the overall failures and problems of this society. His BG touches on so many bad things and problems wrong with the way their world runs currently.
(Apathy from people being over-reliant on heroes, lack of proper help for mental health, hero idol worship that makes people neglect their families over their duty as a hero, abusive parental figures, dehumanization, etc.)
Izuku’s main goal, the goal of his story after all, is to become the greatest hero as the beginning narration expressed. The most reasonable way to do that given the things we’ve been shown about this world, is to do something none of the current heroes would; save those deemed “unfit” to be saved. It’s not only something personally fitting to Izuku’s character, but holds larger symbolic meaning for the overall narrative. I actually saw somebody discuss this particular topic in a post a while back, that put it better than I ever could.
(click the link if you’re curious to read it, it’s a pretty interesting one)
Now, what that saving means in practice is likely going to be more complicated, since the people in question have done bad things that deserve consequences, and I won’t deny that.
However, one of the biggest issues is, that the way this society functions seems to kind of be the very source of these villains doing bad things. If only somebody would’ve bothered to pick up this scared kid walking on the street before AFO got to him, none of what is happening now would have happened. (or at least, it would’ve been someone else in worst case scenario)
So, to go back on what you actually asked about; I do think that in order to reach the goal Izuku was set, he does need to free Tomura from that possession, that’s probably the least he can and should do.
In that sense, it would honestly make sense it would happen close to the end of the story as the best way to symbolize Izuku becoming the greatest hero - saving even the person who everybody else likely deemed unworthy of saving.
Not to mention, I recall Horikoshi mentioning that he planned the ending to be something where heroes and villains have to team up to reach an end goal of sorts. Izuku teaming up with Tomura’s friends to save Tomura could fit into this concept.
As for Eri...her rewind powers are bit of a...yeah. I also have lot of thoughts about that so bear with me.
They’re pretty difficult from narrative perspective, because they come off very “deus ex machina” or “magical fix all” that removes any stakes, and I’ve seen from the fandom people wishing Eri to just magically fix everything each time somebody is horribly injured, which...that’s a tad disturbing to me? Asking this little traumatized girl who’s seen lot of horrid injuries and gore to view MORE of it potentially, to heal your favorites? Even if she’d want to do it willingly (which she probably would out of gratitude) she’s, what, six?
(yes I know this is fiction and I might be taking this a bit too seriously, but I am also looking at this from the narration point of view, and her doing these magic fixes would also actually be bad for the story narration IMO, I’ll explain below)
She’s just a child, she probably can’t really grasp yet what she can and can’t handle, when it comes to her trauma, and what is and isn’t good for her.  Eri “magically fixing everything” is an absolute no from me, both for her own sake and from narration perspective.
Like I get it, anybody would be sad when their fave gets hurt, I am too, but Eri’s a traumatized child, and tbh having her magically fix everything at her current state would in my eyes go against the point the narrative is trying to make, about the need for change and doing things better from the previous generation. Her rewinding these “changes” in the story, as a traumatized kid, is basically holding up the status quo that is harmful. Using somebody’s remarkable power out of duty to do good while potentially ignoring the impact it can have on the individuals own well-being, which basically will hindrance their ability to do said good in the future.
I can let fixing Mirio’s quirk pass, because he wasn’t horrifically injured in a manner that could potentially trigger Eri’s traumas. It was still a tad risky in my eyes to make this kid do it, because even if she did train for it, what if things went horribly wrong and she made Mirio disappear? That would’ve just caused her unnecessary mental anguish. They basically got lucky there that Hori was kind enough to make it work.
I would not mind so much, if the person having this power wasn’t a traumatized kid basically, in a story that is about a flawed system and the harmful effects it has on the individuals living in it with the way it currently runs.
So personally, I don’t want to see Eri use her powers at this point in that manner. She’s still recovering herself and probably not mentally ready to handle these things. Once she’s in a mentally better place, older and more capable of understanding what is or isn’t good for her, then she can go ahead and rewind people’s lost limbs left and right and use her quirk as the next generation superhero healer. But not right now, not when she’s still just a kid with horrible trauma.
Plus, I feel her point in the story was less about her power, and more about her parallels with Tomura; she could’ve become like him if she hadn’t been saved, and in turn, Tenko could’ve been like her if he had been saved.
So, from narrative point of view, It feels likely (though I could be wrong of course) that Tomura will remain possessed for a while, and Izuku’s end goal (or one of them) is to save him from the possession, and perhaps they’ll work together to defeat AFO. This last part I’m not that sure about though, given we still don’t have all the puzzle pieces. There’s probably a lot more to be learned about AFO himself, that will have an impact on how the story goes. We’ll see.
So yeah. Sorry this is kind of long, but sometimes you need lot of text to properly convey your thoughts xD Plus I’m just kinda used to writing long pieces of text.

Okay no you don’t understand, when I saw the black car at the end of 320 I wondered if it was gonna be Top 3 squad coming to “save the day” and I worried Enji would be all like “I’M SORRY I DIDN’T KNOW YOU BETTER AND I’M HERE TO APOLOGISE YOU CAN COUNT ON ME FROM NOW ON” and then I saw Enji from this chapter and I was about to be so pissed
[because if Enji came up and joined the fight and said all that, it still wouldn’t have changed the fact that Izuku was still in turmoil over his “duty” so to me it would have been like Enji was making it about himself, which I was actually kind of fearing would happen]
But I’m so glad that doesn’t seem to be the case! Enji out here just helping to arrest Dictator, thank god
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I kinda like this part, with Hawks suggesting Best Jeanist just capture Izuku and have it over and done with and Enji just being like “nah listen I think the kids have got this one”
Like: “Hawks, as of now... the students won’t be a hindrance to us... [so let them do their thing and negotiate with Midoriya, and then maybe we can think about Best Jeanist coming in with the big guns if things don’t work out]”, you know? That’s what I think anyway
Also... listen I know the kids are trying to help and so are the Top 3 but, my god, can everyone stop treating Izuku like an escaped convict? I know the kids are reaching out to him but Hawks seriously sounds like he’s saying “lets just tie the kid up and drag him back against his will”
Like???? At least some of them are trying to communicate and get through to Izuku, but then you have people like Momo and Hawks who are straight up suggesting to immobilize Izuku and drag him back! Can you all PLEASE stop treating him like a weapon and STOP forcing him to do things, I know you all care for him but this is getting kinda tiring
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“They have such flashy techniques, they might not need my help...” Honey are you still thinking about how ‘not flashy’ your quirk is, cuz I thought we established that normal quirk or flashy quirk, yours is still helpful and does manly justice! KIRI PLEASE I LOVE YOU, HAVE FAITH IN YOURSELF!
Kiri and Bakugou have a lot to say to Izuku huh. I know Bakugou’s moment will come but I also wanna see what Kiri has to say! I hope he makes it back in time :( Aoyama and Hagakure too!
[or is that a plot device to make Aoyama and Hagakure go away?👀Hori what are you planning]
Regardless, I think Aoyama, Hagakure and Kirishima is a team-up I didn’t know I wanted to see, and now we won’t even get to see it. Still. There goes the new dream team, off to help civilians :’)
Tumblr media
Pissed off Shouto! We love to see a pretty boy!
Also, I love Shouto’s thinking here. Idk he and Bakugou seem to be giving off big brain energy. We love two best friends with brain cells
And the way Shouto is making the ice fall over him [is that what’s happening here? I think so] reminds me of Levi Ackerman kicking Eren [I do not watch AOT but you know that animation, right? Of Levi repeatedly bearing down and kicking him while Eren is off-screen? This reminds me of that]
Tumblr media
This is a real testament to how much Yoichi and Tomura look alike, because I legit skimmed over that panel like “Ah yes; All Might, Nana Shimura and Yoi- WAIT HANG ON A SECOND”
The ice bearing down over Izuku.... like a weight he must carry..... *head in hands*
And I like the connection here. All Might told him “You’re next”, Nana basically said in her own words “You’re next” by saying along with Yoichi “You may be the last one to do this therefore you’re the next and only one left”, and Nana’s connection to Tomura, BUT ALSO Tomura was also told “You’re next” by AFO and All Might [the symbolism of All Might pointing through the tv and the panels showing Tomura AND Izuku] which turned out to be a literal metaphor too because of AFO possessing his body
Once again, Izuku thinking about Tomura. Shows more of how Izuku is including Tomura in a lot of things now, like when he thinks about society and extending a helping hand (Lady Nagant battle) and in general thinking about people he has to stop (which was shown in chapter 318). And this time, it’s about the connection they both have with the You’re Next parallels
Whiiiiiiich, in a way, is probably the second time he’s thought of both of them in a connection way? Because the first time was in the War, when Izuku thought about how Tomura’s body wasn’t ready for the power he acquired and Izuku connected it to how he tried to train his own body for OFA. So if this is true, this would be the second time he paralleled himself with Tomura
[Is Izuku even thinking about these three rn? Or is it just Hori showing us the symbolism? Idk but I like to think Izuku is thinking about them]
Oof the connections are brutal
Tumblr media
Oh my god I love this panel
First of all, I love it when Hori does the shading thing where he shades a character for intensity, but second of all, just the way that the words are LITERALLY INGRAINED into Izuku
Such powerful imagery! That’s one of the things I admire about bnha
But fr. All of this fucked Izuku up bad
Tumblr media
CLASSIC “rival’s face isn’t shown after that outburst because we all know the rival is emotional about this but we are hiding his expression rn for Tension Reasons” trope
Tumblr media
I like how Tsuyu has always been the one to make Mineta stfu for being an ass, but here she is now using her signature “grab Mineta with tongue to make him shut up” move to HELP HIM instead! Like that lil development
Idk why but I love Izuku’s expression here. He looks like an enraged kitten lol
Tumblr media
I love this actually. Some of them mention Izuku in relation to his quirk, others mention Izuku solely based on who he is, but I think Mineta is probably the only one here so far who has said outright “Hey, I like you cause of your bravery and courage, not because of your quirk”
Like yes I KNOW the others also basically say that, but it’s kind of mostly been a chorus of implication: “You helped me this one time!” and “I want you to be safe!” and “But what about the people you leave behind?”
Mineta is the only one so far to actually say blatantly “I didn’t admire you cause of your quirk, I admire you because even when you’re scared, you can still leap out and save people!”
And thinking about Mineta as a person, how he was at the time of that USJ rescue [basically shivering and trembling BUT being motivated by Izuku regardless] and as he is now, I just think it makes a whole lot of sense for him to say this based on what he saw at USJ
I didn’t expect him to say it so outright, but despite him being a comedy character [mostly affectionate but also derogatory], I like the way he was used here
This isn’t to say that what the other classmates said was bad or not valid, I just find it interesting that Mineta actually phrases what he said like an actual example and explanation of admiration
Basically, this is actually what Izuku needs. The most important thing, if anything. Izuku needs somebody who actually outlines that his quirk isn’t as important as who wields it, somebody who actually looks Izuku in the face and tells him that he is looked up to because of who he is as a person, NOT because of some stupid strength-based all powerful quirk!
Forgive me for getting excited, and over fricking MINETA of all characters, but this is absolutely something Izuku needed to hear. I’ve been waiting for somebody to say this to him since FOREVER!
Enough implications. Somebody get this kid by the fucking shirt or hold his hand and TELL HIM he is LOVED for WHO HE IS.
And I know that Izuku didn’t listen to him here, but I’m glad SOMEBODY said it. It just looks like Mineta wasn’t the one Izuku would listen to.
Maybe it’ll be Bakugou who says it and Izuku actually listens to him instead. Or somebody else. Idk man I’m just glad somebody fucking said it outright.
Anyway
Once again, I like Izuku’s expression here. The anger at being held back, both figuratively and literally, is PALPABLE lol
Tumblr media
OKAY NO BUT THE WAY THIS REMINDS ME OF ALL FOR ONE
Like okay, stating the obvious, cuz AFO and OFA are alike, but the way this is translated just REALLY makes me connect the dots to AFO.... so freaky
We had the same thing in the Nagant battle of Izuku saying this exact “plus” thing but only NOW am I like “OMG THATS LIKE AFO” lmao
Also, Izuku’s face here... he looks so tired. I can’t tell that much, but it kinda looks like he’s opening his eyes just the tiniest bit. Like he’s either super tired or he’s running out of energy to run away. Or both. Definitely both.
Tumblr media
Ochako connecting how she acted to Kamino as well! Just like Tsuyu! They are both definitely working off of their regrets for the better. Super glad about that
“It’s not the same as before! I....!”
LOVE YOU? WAS SHE ABOUT TO SAY LOVE YOU??
I mean wishful thinking ig but still lol
Tumblr media
YOOOOOOO THE KAMINO RAMP 2.0!
Ochako is so pretty the way she is drawn here, and her and Mina being queens!
Tumblr media
I’M SCREAMING AT HOW MUCH SHOUTO HAS IMPROVED??
Like look at the comparison of this ramp compared to Kamino’s!
Tumblr media
The structural integrity is just a million times better than it was!!
How much do you wanna bet Shouto immediately got back into UA, rolled up his sleeves and got straight to work for both his families sake and Izuku’s sake? IT’S SO AMAZING JUST SEEING HOW MUCH HE’S IMPROVED!
“We can’t keep up, huh?!” love me some spiteful Shouto lmao
Tumblr media
THE NARRATION I AM IN TEARS
Shouto’s left side burning! From the passion! And also maybe he’s gonna do something with his fire idk but I’m excited! It’s also kind of like symbolism for how Izuku helped him with his fire side I suppose
URARAKA AND BAKUGOU COMBO URARAKA AND BAKUGOU COMBO
And and! Bakugou’s new explosions! So pretty so beautiful I love it!
Tumblr media
Bakugou honey I LOVE YOU
The transition of “Stuff I want to say to you” that’s like what All Might had thought earlier to “Stuff I HAVE to say to you” from Bakugou now!!
LISTEN YOU’RE TELLING ME WE GET A SHOUTO + MINA + URARAKA + BAKUGOU + IIEDA COMBO??? HELL YES THANK YOU HORIKOSHI I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT
Mina is absolutely crucial to the combo but MOST OF THE DEKU SQUAD ALSO COMBINING THEIR MOVES TOO??? AN ABSOLUTE WIN IF YOU ASK ME
Tumblr media
“That’s why I will always continue to challenge you!”
No but like I’m sobbing can you hear me can you tell
They are rivals,,, BUT THEY ARE ALSO FRIENDS *head in hands sobbing*
Tumblr media
The gentle way he holds his hand... not tugging, but just holding comfortingly, I’m-
Iieda: *holds gently*
Izuku: *is hold*
Tumblr media
The callbacks,,,, the tears,,,, Iieda using what Izuku said as a way to connect with him,,,, please I’m so glad Iieda got his moment to shine and got to hold his hand
Like don’t get me wrong, I want Bakugou’s moment to shine too, but I feel like we don’t pay enough attention to the other characters in the class, those who are also there for Izuku in big ways AND little ways
The impact that Izuku has had on these people is just so sweet to see
And I love here how Izuku actually LOOKS emotional. This whole time he’s either covered his face, looked dead inside or pissed, but here is kind of where his shell cracks
But... that last panel... ack... it makes me think Izuku is about to do something stubborn again
It makes me think Izuku is gonna go from emotional and sad, to “I... NO! I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL IIEDA, BUT I HAVE TO DO THIS ON MY OWN! I’M SORRY, I’M SO SORRY, BUT STAY OUT OF THIS!!”
Like it would kinda make sense if he did, since we haven’t gotten to the rest of the characters yet, and Izuku is just SO STUBBORN but... honey...
If that did happen though, it wouldn’t be a total loss or a waste of Iieda’s character. It would basically just mean Izuku’s shell is beginning to properly crack, and the fact that it was IIEDA of all people who chipped the first cracks away... Lovely. Magnificent.
[of course, this is just speculation]
WHEN HORI DOES THIS SHIT:
Tumblr media
IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CHAPTER, AND THEN PUTS THE TITLE AT THE END:
Tumblr media
THAT’S HOW YOU KNOW IT’S A GOOD CHAPTER. CHAPTERS DONE LIKE THIS ARE WHERE HORI DOES JUSTICE IMO
“His Hand Reached Him, Now Deku Will...”
Deku will what?? Reject him?? Properly cry?? Breakdown?? I must know Hori I MUST KNOW

Note
"If heroes save people, was Jin-kun not a person in their eyes?" Horikoshi please stop validating the villain stans with every new chapter. I'm already stressed as hell with the AFO/OFA plotline and the story potentially forcing Izuku to care about saving Shigaraki. Nevermind the fact that 1) Why the heck do YOU suddenly care about saving. That came out of the blue little Miss Murderer. (+)
Who in their right mind would go, "Oh you just (insert all these crimes) and are a part of the country's worst villain organization, but it's okay because I acknowledge you being a human being first and not a very active threat." Idk about you, but if someone tried to stab me I wouldn't give two shit about them also being a person, they're dangerous. And there are worse active threat crimes out there and guess who are accomplices in Machia stampeding all over? (+)
2) What is saving to you? Just keeping Jin alive or saving him from villainy? Because one has less negative consequences than the other. Newsflash, Hawks tried. And was the only hero who even thought Jin was goodnatured instead of dismissing it first due to him being a villain that ahem, did you SEE the destruction in Deika. Sure, Tomura did that. Twice majorly helped. See anyone else care about how planned perpetrator for mass genocide has a kind heart and stop/talk first? Yeah me neither. (+)
(+) 3) This is literally gonna make people support Hawks dehumanizing Twice and I don't wanna see that. But hey, if the story is gonna end up condemning Hawks' actions then I'm just gonna have to accept that and keep it in mind when discussing anything because at least I have that maturity unlike what these villain stans were doing for all of Hawks non-murdery traits. Doesn't mean I have to like it though and might need to take a break from the manga.
If Hori codemns Hawks actions in the manga then he’s fucking stupid considering it was he himself that showed us Hawks was pushed to kill Twice. He can’t just present Hawks running out of options and killing someone in order to stop more deaths as something bad, unless he wanted his students dying too and that actually being a good thing because we know Twice didn’t care who he had to hurt and kill as long as it was to protect his friends (as we saw in Deika).
Also, if that is what Toga really asks or wants to ask Ururaka (and not just a fan translation) then that just shows us that she has no idea about the context behind Twice’s death. She assumes that Hawks didn’t try to save Twice (which we know that he did), that he didn’t treat him like a person (which, again, we know he did and more) and she doesn’t know the fact that Twice himself didn’t want to be saved because that meant be seperated from his family in the league. I can understand why Toga feels this way and in fact I’d be surprised if she didn’t, it’s just so annoying that the fans that have been desperate to demonize Hawks have jumped on this (again) in order to make themselves seem right (though all it does is make them look stupid and unable to read).
This is why I’m so tired of this arc. Not because of Hori’s story but the fandoms dumb reaction to it. Apparently Hawks should have just let Twice kill a bunch of people huh, that’s what the fandom wants right? The students and heroes dead at Twice’s hand and potentially the surrounding cities too? Because that’s what Twice would have done.
I’m tired guys.

BNHA Rewatch: Episode 61 “Deku vs Kacchan Part 2″
 mysterylover123
O.T.P.
Tumblr media
This is gonna get kinda emotional.
Tumblr media
Deku is turning Kacchan’s fight proposal down. Dammit Deku! He’s being serious!
Tumblr media
Hoo boy that Kacchan face. No light in his eyes. That realization, just…just bleeding through…hoo boy.
Tumblr media
“If the way you admired him was correct, does that mean my way of thinking was wrong?” OMG ITS HAPPENING. HE’S REALIZING IT YA’LL.
Tumblr media
The flashbacks to bb Deku and Kacchan the feels.
Tumblr media
The white void, it’s just the two of them.
Tumblr media
That Deku line from the first episode. I’m transported right back, ya’ll. It’s that first love again, that same feeling I had when I first discovered this series all the way back in summer of last year.
Tumblr media
So Deku starts by thinking too hard about what’s going on and immediately gets blasted.
Tumblr media
“You think too much” hoo boy recently Mother’s Basement posted the analysis of this fight and pointed out that this is actually a flaw of Deku’s that he can learn to remedy by adopting some of Kacchan’s impulsiveness. Never has the phrase “you complete me” been more accurate.
Tumblr media
This freaking animation. It’s so beautiful. OMG.
Tumblr media
“Wait for me” OH MAN BB DEKU BB KACCHAN RUNNING I’M DEAD I AM DYING
Tumblr media
Cause he loves ya you dope.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cute overload
Tumblr media
WHY WHY WHY hoo boy Kacchan flashbacks.
Tumblr media
Dat little trip oh man. He’s so bummed Deku doesn’t wanna fight and Deku’s little kick actually knocked him down.
Tumblr media
Ooh boy. Here it comes. The music went out
Tumblr media
Hold his freaking hand some day dammit
Tumblr media
Oh god I can’t watch this again I can’t I can’t
Tumblr media
“why is to you became strong…while I - “ OH GOD HERE IT COMES HERE IT COMES
Tumblr media
OH GOD. Slow clap. Okamoto and Chapin both deserve freaking awards for that performance. I mean holy shit. That voice acting. Those cracks. That hit. It makes me cry. I’m tearing up right now. Cause you see, this whole episode, it really rests on the ability of Bakugou’s Seiyuu and VA to pour everything into the performance. It’s not going to hit without both of them giving the vocal acting performance of a lifetime, and they both knocked it out of the freaking park. I actually love them both as his voice; I don’t have a preference for dub over sub, as regards their performances (not the dialogue translations), because both are incredible. Just. Slow clap. All of the awards, please.
Tumblr media
Look at how Deku looks at him. He’s the best. He just…he cares, so much. I mean, you’d admittedly have to be a pretty heartless bastard not to feel a little compassionate after hearing that speech but still. Kacchan’s so fucking lucky he has Deku and he doesn’t even know it. I want one too.
Tumblr media
He’s crying. Me too.
Tumblr media
Kacchan no Kacchan no nononononono
Tumblr media
Oh god Deku you beautiful darling
Tumblr media
“may not be any meaning” I DISAGREE THIS IS THE CULMINATION OF AN ENTIRE SERIES’ WORTH OF 100+ SYMBOLIC CHAPTERS DETAILING YOUR GROWTH FROM ANGRY YELLING RIVALS TO RIVALS WHO SUPPORT EACH OTHER DAMMIT IT’S EVERYTHING
Tumblr media
“May not be any meaning in winning or losing” lol are you just saying that in hindsight, Future Deku, cause you know you lost?
Tumblr media
Deku didn’t have to do this. He didn’t have to fight Kacchan or even let him know the truth.
Tumblr media
And note, he didn’t accept until he realized there was someone he could save. Someone who needs saving, to be helped. And this is how to help him.
Tumblr media
“The only one who can accept his feelings is me.” Ya’ll heard that haters? Say it a little louder for the people in the back, Deku. He’s got his heart.
Tumblr media
And look who’s smiling again, eyes lighting up again, the minute Deku started fighting back?
Tumblr media
“I couldn’t just completely reject him” Guess who also sad that about their fiery spiky blond spouse in BNHA? Kacchan’s dad in that omake about their marriage.
Tumblr media
Their relationship was wrong, but now it’s right.
Tumblr media
They never talked about how they really felt. Communication is the cornerstone of a healthy relationship, folks. Go on. Talk about your feels. Your real feelings.
Tumblr media
Of that was one hell of a hit.
Tumblr media
That speedy recovery though. Deku is fast.
Tumblr media
Oh wow Kacchan hit it too
Tumblr media
That smile. That smile OMG that is THE HOTTEST, by far, that Deku has ever looked in animation. And I don’t say that lightly.
Tumblr media
The translation here is either “I’ve” or “you’ve” gotten stronger. Both fit fine, which is the crazy part. Deku could be either saying that he himself has improved, or complimenting Bakugou, which does admittedly make more sense with what he was saying before, while ‘I’ve’ fits his cocky grin here better. I want him to flash a cocky grin more. It suits him. (BTW The English Dub compromises between the two and says’ we’ve both’.
Tumblr media
Katsuki assumes Deku has a plan. Always overestimating him.
Tumblr media
“That’s what I hate about you” OMG HE FINALLY TELLS HIM HOW HE FEELS. “I can never tell what you’re thinking” Because ya know he’s so good at understanding how everyone else thinks and feels.
Tumblr media
He’s always being mean to Deku. Deku has seen him at his very worst and yet still admires him. Maybe that’s scary, you know? Unconditional love is…kinda terrifying. But so, so beautiful. So he has to rationalize it that Deku is just looking down on him.
Tumblr media
Wow Deku sure took you long enough! He’s been saying that since day 1!
Tumblr media
“I wouldn’t want anything to do with them anymore” Deku there you go being empathetic and wonderful and perfect again. So understanding you darling, darling boy.
Tumblr media
“Along with the parts I hated about you, I saw all the amazing things you could do.” THAT’S ADMIRATION, FOLKS. ADMIRATION WITHOUT IDOLIZATION. Without hero-worship. Acknowledging the good and the bad. Seeing a person for who they really are and always, always seeing the best of them, even at their worst.
Tumblr media
“MUCH CLOSER TO ME THAN ALL MIGHT” Do you hear him guys? The closest person to him, closer than All Might. Closer than his freaking #1 favorite hero. The dub version has “actually in my life”, which isn’t a bad idea either. Both are true. That is so powerful. The person who
Tumblr media
Oh yeah and again how does Deku advance in power? How does he Go Beyond? KACCHAN. Full cowling, he found from him. OFA itself, he gained by saving him. And 8%.
Tumblr media
THAT SMILE. “I thought you were amazing.” He loves you you idiot.
Tumblr media
He kept chasing after him. He’ll never stop. He won’t just give up.
Tumblr media
He passed him. And Bakugo looks happy. Possibly because he wants Deku to do better. Possibly because it seems to be confirming his might-makes-right theory. Possibly both.
Tumblr media
ANIMATION-GASM AGAIN.
Tumblr media
AHAHAHAHAHAH ITS THAT CUT ITS THAT CUT DEKU’S DANCING FEET
Tumblr media
THE VOID AROUND THEM IT’S JUST YOU AND ME
Tumblr media
AND THE BLOCK OMG THIS IS BEAUTIFUL THIS IS THE MOST FREAKING BEAUTIFUL ANIMATION IVE EVER SEEN
Tumblr media
I’m serious. They brought out all the stops for this one. Of course. they knew, they had to know, that this was it. The animation, too, had to be perfect, or else it wasn’t gonna come across. And it is. Even better, in my opinion, than the animation in the stuff that came before it. Bones you are incredible.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Higher gear. Can anyone doubt that Katsuki is important to Deku’s journey after this?
Tumblr media
“This is gross, so I can’t say it”.. “I love you?” A reactor I follow actually said that after that line. That’s how intense they are.
Tumblr media
Anyway IMAGE OF VICTORY SPEECH. The Ep that keeps on giving.
Tumblr media
Kacchan is his image of victory. The other side of him. And he adopts some of his traits.
Tumblr media
“The part of you I hate and yet” How much love can you have for a person when you can somehow still admire the darkest, meanest parts of them? I don’t have a very perfect definition of love but I think that’s probably a big part of it.
Tumblr media
“my image of victory is of you” feels overload. Feels O.D.
Tumblr media
dat crane shot.
Tumblr media
My one disappointment with this episode is that they used the US of Smash OST instead of the Katsuki and Izuku OST for this scene. CMON GUYS. SERIOUSLY. THE KATSUKI AND IZUKU THEME HAD TO HAVE BEEN WRITTEN FOR THIS EPISODE AND THIS MOMENT ALONE. WHAT WERE YOU THINKING.
Tumblr media
“I have to beat you” the music the feels omg
Tumblr media
Hahaha psych. Kacchan wins anyway.
Tumblr media
WOOF. Like OK this is in the manga, this positioning, but it’s only for one frame. In the anime it goes on for like, an uncomfortably long time, with the slow panting, and the close-ups on the twisting body parts, and…combined with the fact that all of Deku’s admiring girlfriends in this arc have also landed on top of him in a similar pose, and you can’t blame me for the fact that my mind went into rather…R-rated territory.
Tumblr media
Kacchan’s disappointed. He didn’t want Deku to lose. He wanted Deku to win.
Tumblr media
That breaking  voice again. Don’t make me cry more dammit it’s too late.
Tumblr media
ALL MIGHT! I need an MST3K style All Might commentary-reaction to this entire damn thing. Seriously Hori. If you ever do an extra, please make one that’s a serious of All Might panel reacting to this whole thing. I NEED THAT.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finishing each other’s sentences again.
Tumblr media
“It’s too late” IT’S NEVER TOO LATE YOU CYNICAL PORCUPINE.
Tumblr media
This is such a great moment of catharsis. Why Deku indeed? Well, you’re about to learn.
Tumblr media
THAT LINE DELIVERY AGAIN. That Broken voice. Both voice actors are too good.
Tumblr media
Deku’s legs though. WOWSA. A little detail I’ve noticed is that Kacchan has really buff, sexy arms and Deku has really buff, sexy legs. Because those are the body parts they use, while the reverse parts are more average.
Tumblr media
“I’m weak too” You’re making me weak I can’t take it. His voice his voice that fucking voice
Tumblr media
DEKU’S EYES. THEY’RE WELLING.
Tumblr media
HE’S GONNA CRY TOO.
Tumblr media
I also need an All Might in my life. I kinda blame myself all the time for things outside of my control. Deku AND Kacchan both blamed themselves for what happened. For All Might’s end. And neither one was really responsible, but they’re just like that. I relate, painfully, to both of them. I have a Deku side and a Bakugo side - deep down, I think we all do. Maybe one more than the other, but that’s what you get when you create two characters who initially act as kind of…distilled embodiments of two sides of the super-hero coin. One all super with no hero, the other all hero with no super - at least, at the beginning.
Tumblr media
THAT PIANO MUSIC IT SOUNDS FAMILIAR. IT’S ALL MIGHT’S FREAKING THEME YA’LL!
Tumblr media
Ooh boy All Might’s BKDK Speech! Both of their teachers ship them, you guys. All Might AND Aizawa both give big, beautiful speeches about their compatibility. In case you somehow missed it.
Tumblr media
Being fixated on victory like you, young Bakugou…and wanting to save those in trouble, like you, young Midoriya…both of those feelings are necessary.” “You guys are perfect for each other”, says the reactor I mentioned earlier (who isn’t even a hardcore BKDK shipper, mind you, it’s just that it’s that obvious.) And it’s true. You need both. They want each other, they need each other, because they have what the other lacks. They complete each other.
Tumblr media
This is the shonen rival equivalent of having the couple in a rom-com confess at the end of act one instead of act three. It upsets all the cliches and is all the better for it. Though even the most hardcore, dedicated anime rivals, I don’t think have ever gone this married-couple with the ‘mutual respect’ and ‘making each other stronger’ thing.
Tumblr media
WIN AND SAVE SAVE TO WIN. They look each other in the eyes.
Tumblr media
Oh god not that voice again I’m dying. Don’t make me cry again Kacchan.
Tumblr media
“Don’t lose.” SUPPORTIVE KACCHAN I LOVE SUPPORTIVE KACCHAN.
Tumblr media
“I’ll get stronger” CONFIDENT DEKU I LOVE CONFIDENT DEKU.
Tumblr media
“Of the students only you.” ONLY YOU.
Tumblr media
I put this moment really high on my list of Kacchan’s nicest moments, because it means a lot to me and to All Might. All Might acknowledges it. He’s a good secret keeper.
Tumblr media
Oh and Deku thanks him too in the English Dub, BTW. Not the manga but nice dub touch.
Tumblr media
OMG he’s such a Tsundere.
Tumblr media
He told him everything. HE KNOWS. The only one who knows. None of Deku’s other love interests do. And he has no interest in telling them.
Tumblr media
Kacchan asks why he told him. And I’ve got an answer, after obsessively rereading Chapter 11/rewatching Episode 8 a lot: BECAUSE HE LOVES YOU, YOU IDIOT. You were mad at him for lying about his quirk to you. You asked what was going on (loudly). You accused him of lying to you your whole life. So he told you the truth. Because he can lie to his mom, and he can lie to his friends and teachers and the entire freaking world. But he cannot lie to YOU. Because he loves you. Idiot baka.
Tumblr media
Oh and what’s that music playing there? Why does that sound familiar? YOU SAY RUN YOU SAY RUN YOU SAY RUN IT’S BACK. And you know? That’s I think because YSR symbolizes Deku’s heroic inspiration. The inspiration he both takes in and gives to others. And here, he’s both being inspired by Kacchan, and inspiring him at the same  time.
Tumblr media
Now Kacchan is doing the same. “Chosen one” He knows. Deku is better. He’s gotta surpass him.
Tumblr media
LOL THIS IS FUNNY. THEY SURE BICKER LIKE THEY’RE MARRIED.
Tumblr media
This shot composition. Get it? ALL MIGHT’S THE THING BETWEEN ‘EM.
Tumblr media
Oh and this. Yay some character development from Kacchan! Another nice moment of his in this ep. Three times!
Tumblr media
All Might Meta’s a bit about how Kacchan took responsibility and felt bad and does a Mom guilt trip on Dadzawa. They’re getting to be kinda married too now.
Tumblr media
“I went in pretty HARD”. OMG stop it you’re making me think bad things again. Just F*CK already.
Tumblr media
Their first act as a married couple is to clean the house together. OMG domestic fluff.
Tumblr media
And now for the best Post-credits scene ever.
Tumblr media
Wow Uraraka ships it so bad.
Tumblr media
Oh and some Todobaku bonus! Aw I guess Bakugou just turned down his 3some offer.
Tumblr media
Ooh awkward silence.
Tumblr media
YAY! Though they did kinda wreck it by having Deku bring it up instead of Kacchan
Tumblr media Tumblr media
NOW THEY’RE HEALTHY ENOUGH TO TALK TO EACH OTHER LIKE HUMAN BEINGS.
Tumblr media
Kacchan just praised me. Life is good.
Episode 61 is my favorite episode of my favorite show. I think it’s the best and will never be topped. Feels, left and right. It’s really just perfect. Funny, all 3 of the transcendent, best-of-the-best BNHA eps (This, 49 and 23) are basically just two characters fighting for 20 minutes. Nothing more or less. Yet they’re all so, so good. And this one is…I don’t even know how to put it into words. It’s a phenomenal tour-de-force of acting, visuals, animation, music, and of course, writing, all combining together to be just absolutely unsurpassable. Everything that makes this series good, boiled down to it’s essence. And yes, this did seal the deal for me with BKDK. I liked it before, but this made it a done deal. No going back. And I love it.
BEST GIRL OF THE EP: Uraraka for being so supportive.
RANKER: Top 5 Best Moments of This Episode: (it’s really more like a top 50)
5. Deku’s little Dance number
4. True Rivals at Last
3. True feelings at last
2. The Image of Victory Speech
1. “Why did I become...”

About bkg apologizing. Here is my fear. Is Hori gonna frame that apology merely for bkg's sake so that ppl can say "look! He's changed! he's better" or will he frame it as something towards Izuku, something that Izu needs to hear, he deserves, for all the shit, the pain that he went through. Bc I feel that's important, the apology should be for the victim's sake not just to prop up the apologizer. Maybe I feel like this BC I feel the story has acted as if he's redeemed so this doesn't assure me.
First of all, sorry for the huge delay anon; I hope you still see this!! I’ve been sick and just haven’t had enough brainpower to answer this.
But yes, I.... I am extremely skeptical about how this supposed apology would even go down, if Hori is really going to go through with it, and how. Because exactly like you said, and I said in the tags of that post, the story has been going in a way that it feels like Bakugou’s “arc” is already... resolved? Bakugou vs Izuku after the license exam, where they each come to a better “understanding” heavy quotes here smh of how the other feels, and All Might declares their “rivalry” having evolved into a more “healthy” one, where they each push each other to do better by their different approaches to being a hero and Bakugou’s “approach” is a whole other rant, feels like the endpoint of any true animosity between them from the narrative; it hasn’t set up or foreshadowed any more need for anything more on Bakugou’s part to redeem himself or make right past wrongs. In the story, he suffers through being kidnapped, having to carry the guilt that he was indirectly responsible for his idol’s downfall, and failing the license exam (mind you, due to his own arrogant actions). These things are all treated as fair punishments to give him a reality check/deflate his ego somewhat, and in return, he gets a hug and praise and reassurance and highly intimate/personal and classified information from All Might. And... that’s it? That seems to be the end of any problems between Bakugou and Izuku, he’s literally just a running, yelling gag now, and the narrative’s “redemption” of Bakugou seems to be more about sympathizing him and making two squabbling kids learn to get along and tolerate each other, then about... making a bully apologize to his former victim.
Which is why as horrible as it sounds, the way the story has been going, I can’t see any way an apology from Bakugou wouldn’t feel out of place now? The time for that is long past; the narrative has not set up for it at ALL. The story, the teachers, the other students, and Izuku himself have NEVER seen or treated Bakugou as an abuser or even just an unreasonably violent person in general, so there’s no precedent or demand for him to even consider apologizing or even thinking about and regretting his actions! Sure, no one knows Bakugou abused Izuku, but that hardly matters; he’s temperamental, hostile, and dangerous with his quirk, constantly nearly kills Izuku and anyone else he fights, has a terrible attitude problem that he should have outgrown years ago, and yet NO ADULT DOES ANYTHING ABOUT HIM. Rather, they let him BE, because they sometimes see these situations he gets into as a good learning experience!! The other students laugh at him and treat him like a joke, don’t mind getting yelled at or pushed around by him, and even All Might himself praises his “friendship” with Izuku, who he has tried to hurt or threatened to hurt multiple times, until their relationship improved to the bare minimum level of him no longer doing that. And as for Izuku himself, the only person who knows that he was bullied by Bakugou in the past besides Bakugou himself ofc, he does not feel any hostility towards or expect anything from him - he was always frustrated and hurt that they could not get along, that Bakugou treated him as he did, but it was always with the hope that they could one day return to being the friends they once were; Izuku has never had the self-esteem to recognize that he has absolutely no obligation to care about Kacchan as much as he does, that he owes him nothing, and that Bakugou is not his friend and has so much work to do before he can even maybe be his friend again.
Am I relieved to hear Hori say Bakugou needs to apologize? Absolutely. But all this is why I honestly would have had no idea he even wants this to happen if he hadn’t said it; with the narrative as it is right now, I cannot see what on earth will happen to set it up without it feeling sudden and forced, and thus, ingenuine, like you said. Hori seems to truly feel like Bakugou needs to do this, so I take comfort in the fact that he wouldn’t just throw it in to please fans or something, but... yes, I too fear that if it’s not done properly, without the right build-up, Bakugou stans will grasp at it to say that he’s been fully redeemed, when it hasn’t been earned at all. The recent little hints towards Best Jeanist and Bakugou’s relationship with him that we’ve yet to see give me fleeting hope that he’s related to how this apology will eventually happen, and trust me, I would love that (since BJ is the only character we’ve really seen so far to chastise Bakugou), but I can only wonder and worry and hope for now.
tl;dr I desperately want this apology, but only if it’s lead up to right, and right now I ain’t seeing how that will happen.
