Wraith

A figure of darkness so thick it seems solid, the wraith is barely humanoid. Black mist flows from its body in shape of a cloak and its head is wrapped in billowing shadow that almost forms a hood. Plants wither and animals flee from its presence. Even small fires can be extinguished by the wraith's deadly veil of empty darkness.

Hostis Inmortui. Those who die in the fog with hate, or hunger in their hearts are bound by their despair. In death they become a wound in the veil. Fog pours from their bodies, binding other undead to the mortal realm and sapping the life from any nearby.

Unlike many other undead, there is a twisted will guiding this black form. Driven by malice, envy and despair, the wraith compulsively consumes the life force they themselves can never possess again. Unlike the mindless specters, the wraith knows that its touch brings death. However, it does not savor a kill, nor anything else.

Undead Commanders. Wraiths are found in the ruins of the Old World, sustaining the other undead that remain, or leading them out of the mist to satiate their compulsion to take the lives of all they can.

Unlike simpler undead, they can be reasoned with and strategize. They will avoid a creature wielding everlight, magical weapons, or divine attacks, as long as there are other victims to pursue.

Undead Nature. A wraith doesn't require air, food, drink, or sleep.
