Rong'er looks so cute I can actually see her as a boy ngl unlike other girls in drama where it's like how can you not tell this looks more convincing and she looks like a beggar since her dad is the leader of the beggar sect right? I've read webtoons where they are actually beggars which I never truly got is it so they can blend in?
Hi Nonny!
Yes oh my god Bao Shang'en is so extremely cute. Her dad is the master of Peach Blossom Island, an extremely heretical character, and not a beggar. (He is in fact, a former gentry gongzi who got thrown out of his prestigious gentry gongzi life by his dad disowning him and has been an outlaw Jianghu character ever since.)
When we meet her, she's cosplaying a beggar just for fun!
Her eventual shifu is Hong Qigong, the leader of the Beggar Clan, which is basically a large collective of beggars from all over the country. The book explains this better than most of the adaptations, but how it works is that the Beggar Clan is an occupational sect instead of a lineage sect (so you can just join if you're a beggar) there's two factions: the dirty clothes faction, consisting of guys who are beggars by profession and the clean clothes faction, consisting of guys who admire the largest sect in the world and join bc they want that prestige.
Hong Qigong is a real beggar because he's allergic to real responsibilities, wants to spend all his time eating food, and avoiding aforementioned responsibility.

Come and vote for the best characters with the same surname!*
What does best mean? It's up to you! Whether you love them, are intrigued by their characters, love to hate them, or they're your '2 second blorbos whose personality you made up wholesale', these are all reasons for you to vote for your favs!
*note, the surnames are not exactly the same in all the cases, as often there will be a different character. I am, however, grouping them all together otherwise things got more complicated.
Propaganda is very welcome! If I’ve forgotten anyone, let me know in the notes.
This is part of a larger series of ‘best character with X surname’ polls’. The overview with ongoing polls, winners, and future polls can be found here

sharing this China news network article about Guo Jing and the recent LOCH trailer.
this is particularly helpful for me as someone who has zero experience with anything LOCH related 🫶🏼
"Stupid child" Guo Jing "killed" most smart people in seconds
A trailer that "exploded" countless martial arts fans.
On the 23rd, the only martial arts movie "The Legend of the Condor Heroes: The Great Hero" in the Spring Festival file, led by China Film Co., Ltd., co-produced by China News Network, directed by Tsui Hark, and starring Xiao Zhan and Zhuang Dafei, released the latest trailer, which quickly appeared on the hot search, and the turbulent martial arts world has a more tangible embodiment. Some viewers sighed "dreaming back to the golden age of martial arts" and began to look forward to this version of Guo Jing's style.
"The Legend of the Condor Heroes: The Great Hero" is adapted from the novel of the famous writer Jin Yong. In Jin Yong's martial arts world, Guo Jing is a key figure in the "Condor Trilogy", who is kind by nature, decent, affectionate, diligent and patriotic, and almost has the most exemplary chivalrous spirit in Jin Yong's pen.
Before becoming a hero, he had a very strong circle of friends, Hong Qigong and other masters taught him martial arts, the smart and witty Huang Rong was his strongest assistant, and later defended Xiangyang City, and there were also a group of people who were willing to follow him.
So, the question is, why is Guo Jing, who seems to be wooden, so likable?
01
The counterattack of the "silly child".
If you ask someone what their impression of Guo Jing is, the answer is likely to be "stupid child".
Guo Jing had bad luck in the early days. Guo Xiaotian and Li Ping originally lived a good life in Niujia Village, but they were framed and their families were ruined. Guo Jing lost his father, followed his mother to earn a living in the desert, and also learned Mongolian.
He's a bit of a goofy-headed, and he's slow to learn to speak. After the Seven Monsters of Jiangnan and Qiu Chuji made an appointment for a martial arts competition, they found Guo Jing and patiently taught him martial arts, but Guo Jing just didn't open his mind, and he didn't make much progress in practice.
In terms of adaptability, Guo Jing is not outstanding. He saved the "Sharpshooter" Jebe, and was forced to ask about Jebe's whereabouts by the pursuers. At this time, children who are smart often reply "I don't know", but Guo Jing's answer is "I don't say".
All kinds of actions made him look a little unsmart. But the core of this so-called "stupidity" is rare honesty. "Jin Yong fan" Liushen Lei Lei is more willing to use "sincere and loyal" to describe Guo Jing.
With honesty and kindness, he won the favor of Ma Yu of Quanzhen Sect, and his martial arts made progress, laying the foundation for the growth of "force value" in the future. After meeting Huang Rong, he always treated each other with sincerity, and also exchanged Huang Rong's sincerity.
As Guo Jing grows up, this kind of loyalty and sincerity becomes more and more powerful.
By chance, he and Huang Rong met the leader of the beggar gang, Hong Qigong, the beggar gang. Hong Qigong liked the food made by Huang Rong very much, and appreciated the simplicity of Guo Jing's nature, so he taught Guo Jing the eighteen palms of dragon descending.
Later, Guo Jing guarded Xiangyang City and had a dialogue with Kublai Khan, the commander of the Mongolian army. That's because Guo Jing never speaks carefully, he will say whatever he thinks in his heart, but it goes straight to the hearts of the people.
In fact, many classic literary works like to write about "silly children", such as Pierre in "War and Peace", etc., and Guo Jing is also one of them. Their sincerity helps them grow, and it is also like a mirror, reflecting the flies and dogs in the world.
02
Chivalrous spirit
"Chivalry" is the core soul of Jin Yong's novels, and many of Guo Jing's practices are the concrete embodiment of the chivalrous spirit.
For example, he admired Jebel's bravery, and in the face of coercion and temptation, he would rather die than betray Jebel. After the crisis was resolved, Zhebei gave him gold, but he didn't want it, but he just remembered his mother's teaching, "You must help the guest, not ask for the guest's things." ”
Due to the friendship of their parents, Guo Jing and Yang Kang were born as sworn brothers. After he met Yang Kang, he always took care of Yang Kang, hoping that he could change his evil and return to the right; After Yang Kang's death, he treated his son Yang Guo as his own and cultivated him as carefully as possible.
After breaking with Tuo Lei and others, Guo Jing did his best to protect Xiangyang City, and finally became a great hero praised by everyone in the martial arts.
The great man of chivalry is for the country and the people. For the selfish Yang Kang Ouyang Ke, these eight words are probably just a slogan, at most shouting two sentences to seek some benefits for themselves; But for Guo Jing, this is a promise that is heavier than Mount Tai, and he has been paying for it all his life.
Diligent, upright, responsible, patriotic...... Guo Jing is enough to afford the word "chivalry", and his huge personality charm has infected many people around him.
Of course, some people may say that without the assistance of the resourceful Huang Rong, Guo Jing would not have achieved so much. Indeed, Guo Jing's quality ceiling is very high, and whether or not this ceiling can be activated requires acquired factors. Huang Rong is an activating factor.
Then again, why is Guo Jing's personal quality ceiling high? The reason is that he has an ability: to gain the trust of others.
Dealing with the world requires a certain amount of emotional intelligence, but high emotional intelligence is not about being delicate and ruddering, but about making others trust you unconditionally. Guo Jing has similar excellent qualities. And the core of this quality is sincerity.
How you treat others, others will treat you, sincerity is always nirvana. When he didn't know Hong Qigong's identity, Guo Jing was still very friendly to him. Hong Qigong was also willing to teach him martial arts after learning about Guo Jing's personality.
Guo Jing followed the master little by little, and at the end of "The Legend of the Condor Heroes", the "force value" was greatly improved, and he had the ability to go head-to-head with the master Qiu Qianren. Later, even if he made a move with the East and the West, he could support hundreds of moves to be undefeated.
There may be many opportunities in a person's life, but whether they can grasp it depends on whether they have the ability in the end.
03
Feelings of family and country
Counting carefully, as a big IP, the "Condor Trilogy" has had multiple film and television versions. These film and television dramas may have adapted the original work, but the direction of the story has basically not changed, Guo Jing has always been the hero who has the world in mind.
This role is actually not easy to play. Guo Jing should belong to the type of "wise and foolish", which looks a little wooden, but in fact he is not a person who fights or grabs, is very principled, practical and steady, and all kinds of subtle states are difficult to grasp.
In the past few decades, actors such as Huang Rihua, Zhang Zhilin, Hu Ge, and Yang Xuwen have all played Guo Jing, each with its own merits. The film and television version that is more recognized by the audience is the 83 version of "The Legend of the Condor Heroes", with a Douban score of 9.2 points.
Guo Jing in the 95 version of "The Condor Heroes" is also good, he is a middle-aged person, honest and simple, but he is very capable of fighting. Liushen Lei Lei remembers a scene, that is, Guo Jing beat Huo Du violently in Chongyang Palace, which looked very enjoyable.
Time passed, and people's enthusiasm for "The Legend of the Condor Heroes" did not dissipate. This can be seen from the popularity of "The Legend of the Condor Heroes: The Great Hero" after it was announced, and in the messages that frantically swiped the screen, thousands of words were combined into one word, "expectation".
Liushen Lei Lei once commented on "The Legend of the Condor Heroes": Writing plot characters is ever-changing; Writing about the feelings of the family and the country makes people's blood boil. This book is a sign that Jin Yong has become a master. The upright and kind Guo Jing is the person who has family and country feelings.
Some people once said that Jin Yong's heroes are "superheroes" in the Chinese context. Guo Jing, who is endowed with a deep traditional Chinese concept and loyalty and filial piety, affects his growth and reminds him to become a responsible person.
There is no martial arts in life, but there may be various choices and tests. Just like Guo Jing, keep your heart pure, don't ask for everything to go well, but seek to be worthy of your heart.

Hi, how do you know Jackie Chan is a part of LOCH? I’ve been trying to find as much info on this film as possible and I never came across anything mentioning Jackie Chan. Also this film is already a big budget film, which is also the reason why I feel Tsui Hark chose Xiao Zhan specifically because he’s number one in popularity and with immense popularity he comes with good acting so it was a win-win but although I want this film to be released internationally really badly especially my country, I still fear being disappointed. Would they really invest in an international release? and is there a way if fans could get their messages across to them asking for an international release? because i will honestly cry if xiao zhan’s first movie (during my time as his fan) is released and i as a die hard fan can’t even watch it on big screen!!
This is in reference to a previous post.
The full cast has not been officially announced yet, but it was all over the media at the time of GG was announced as Guo Jing. You can find articles mentioning it just by Googling. There were several big name actors mentioned in smaller supporting roles, and it actually caused a bit of controversy at the time among netizens (who, of course, always stress out over who can do justice to their favorite literary heroes).
Feng Shaofeng - Genghis Khan
Hui Yinghong - Li Ping
Jackie Chan - Hong Qigong
Official accounts haven't confirmed (or denied) these widespread rumors, but we will likely know a lot more soon. The film is slated to be released for Spring Festival, which is the second weekend in February. No doubt there will be some promotional materials, etc. coming out in the next couple of months.
As for whether it will be released abroad - I honestly don't get why fans are always hand-wringing over whether their films will be released internationally. I find that confusing as heck.
It is safe to assume that pretty much all of their movies will be released to international audiences. It would be odd for them not to appear outside China.
Keep in mind that - alongside non-Chinese speaking international audiences who take an interest in international films - there is a huge population of Chinese people living all over the world. In my region, for example, 20% of the population are Chinese Canadians. There is a demand outside of China, for Chinese films.
Legend of the Condor Heroes is one of the most popular novels in China, and is appreciated all over the world. It's an outstanding book. I urge everyone to read it (or enjoy the audiobook). I can't overstate how good it is.
GG is also very popular, and his international fame is growing. Films stand to make more money the more screens they're seen on. It's simple math.
This film WILL be seen outside of China. Any agonizing over whether it will is a waste of one's mental health. It's going to be a big release. It will be seen far and wide. It's will probably make a lot of money. It's got a good formula, a good director, etc.
And even if it doesn't come to some countries - as with all of their projects - it will eventually end up on streaming services. You will get a chance to see it.
Edit: as I said in the comments of this post, there will always be some countries where there really won't be legal options for viewing. That's just the unfortunate reality of the situation. In those cases, there is no shame in watching a pirated version. I feel that it is better to watch their projects, thereby being able to write a review and promote the project to other people, etc. than to not watch them at all.
As long as we are supporting the film financially if there is any option to do so at all. There have been people who have bought tickets for their films in regions that they are unable to travel to, just to support the film. People can also buy tickets for other fans who cannot otherwise afford to go.
There are also often official merchandise and things like that which can be purchased from anywhere in the world.
You can also contact your favorite local streaming services and request for those projects to be made available to you. The more fans who express an interest in their films, the more likelihood a streaming service will make an effort to obtain rights.
There is no guarantee, of course, but it's worth a try. I also encourage people to be patient, because it can take a while for a movie to make it onto streaming platforms. Just because it is available in some regions and not others doesn't mean it won't eventually make it on to yours.
As long as we are supporting to the best of our ability, that's all that anyone can do.

Ok, I finally get it!! So Jin Yong Wuxia Universe version of Legend of the Condor heroes is paced Like That, partially because it’s a FIVE PARTER. The original Condor Heroes plot is fully covered in the first 30 eps.
Then there’s these supplementary episodes (not yet aired) that goes into the individual stories of the Five Greats: Young, Hot Huang Yaoshi, Hong Qigong, Oyang Ke, Duan Huangye (Yideng) and also Wang Chongyang (Zhou Botong’s senior brother). All of the old men in their physical primes up to their fight on Mount Hua, before Yideng’s retirement, before Huang Yaoshi lost his wife, before Oyang Ke’s lover remarried, before Hong Qigong lost his finger.
I finally get the choice of the younger actors playing these roles and the extremely fast flashbacks showing only glimpses of the past. The past is its own story. Everybody is getting backstory. This is an insane way to release the Condor Heroes but I am very intrigued and looking forward to it.
If you look closely at the trailer again, it shows parts of the Five Greats’ pasts that don’t appear in the story proper - including Huang Yaoshi’s disciples and Mei Changfeng with her lover, Cheng Xuanfeng. This is probably the reason why Cheng Xuanfeng exists for 12 seconds in like ep 2 - he and Mei Chaofeng’s love and betrayal might be fleshed out during Huang Yaoshi’s story.
More here about the five parts: https://dramapanda.com/2024/06/new-guo-jing-and-huang-rong-in-the-2024-adaptation-of-legend-of-the-condor-heroes.html
#legend of the condor heroes#this still doesn’t address the integral first half of the Guo Jin plot#his time in Mongolia with his Mongolian brother - sister - condors and Jebe#but it does explain some things!!!#Youtube

some impressions on sleeping dogs so far
had to dock realism points since this game does not have the subway, kinda hate that it adheres to the GTA model of car centrism in an open urban world
also kinda hate how often i hear English in the game, i expect to hear cantonese 24/7 in hong kong, let me hear the fucking barkers call me lengzai instead of 'sexy boy', ugh
although when i did go to the temple for a side mission, i was trying really hard not to bump into the monks and really tried avoiding stepping all over the place on the temple grounds, although there was a statue collectible at the front where the shrine is and i was cringing big time as i stepped over to the front, especially when the monks are there praying, just so i could get the collectible. man, my temple etiquette is really ingrained in me. so yeah, i was realising i was trying to act the same visiting a temple in game as i would if i were to visit an actual temple.
the game does get a little kudos for having old people do qigong in the park

rules: List the first line of your last 10 (posted) fics and see if there’s a pattern! Thanks @dual-domination and @bladedweaponsandswishycoats for tagging me! <3
“Commander,” said Ivanova’s comm. (A Field Telepaths' Guide to Types of Rogues Babylon 5, Ivanova/Talia Winters) (Next line is a bit longer: She needed a drink. She needed rest. She needed her comm to stuff it for all of the two hours of regulation rest that they were required to have even when they were working back-to-back shifts, so she could actually take that rest and not suffer sleep brain.
The world of the dead. Who could say what all the souls in the long line of dead souls thought as Lyra and Will led them out. There were murmurs of course. So everyone could hear those immediately around them. What everyone thought, that was beyond everyone’s ability. (Long Distance Relationship, His Dark Materials, Lyra Silvertongue/Will Parry)
Zhang Rishan heard who had come calling at the Xinyue and did the only thing he could. He closed the door. (Zhang Rishan closed the door to his office: What else could he do after all, Daomu Biji, Zhang Rishan & Zhang Qiling)
Yoo Jaeyi’s first thought was she was only a high school student. Wasn’t she too young to be dealing with this? (Missing Persons Flyers, Beyond Evil, Yoo Jaeyi & Lee Dongsik)
The first few times Shen Wei woke up from a nightmare where the entire weight of the world was resting on his shoulders until it crushed him, he thought nothing of it. After all, he had had the weight of the world happen to him, all those years before, and then he had been the only one around to carry it. It made sense that now that he finally had someone to share the weight of the mountains and rivers with, now that he had Kunlun back to himself lying beside him in bed, only now was he releasing stress born from those years of carrying it. (Pangu Split Heaven and Earth and Then Himself Too, Guardian - novel, Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan, Shen Wei & Gui Mian)
It all started when a fellow professor saw Shen Wei stretching after having a particularly awful day. Apparently the other professor recognized it as a qigong stretch. Shen Wei did keep track of things enough to be aware of the qigong fad that had appeared lately across both Dragon City and China in general. Ok, maybe a little longer ago than lately, but in the grand scheme of things, within a human lifetime, and a young human lifetime at that. But he had been unaware that someone would put together his moving his energy around with qigong. (Qigong Class with Professor Shen, Guardian, Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan)
“Chief Zhao, there is a young man here to see you. He appears to be human. But… you’ll have to hear him out,” Zhu Hong announced when Zhao Yunlan entered the office one morning later in the year in 2015. (Loss of Soul, Daomu Biji, Guardian, main cast & main cast)
“Babies! I’m telling you! They are literal babies!” Pangzi ranted at him. (Younger Than We Were, Daomu Biji Sha Hai, Zhang Rishan & Wang Pangzi)
“You know, my husband isn’t allowed to make tang yuan anymore either. That’s why both of those good-for-nothings are in the other room and not allowed in here while they are made,” Mama Zhao explained to Shen Wei. She pinched off another bit of the filling and rolled it into a ball. Shen Wei followed her and took each ball to pop into a ball of dough, which he quickly smoothed up and over the filling. (Tang Yuan with Mama Zhao, Guardian, Mama Zhao & Shen Wei)
They should have been suspecting a trap. The tomb was too easy to get into. Admittedly, it was far out in the middle of nowhere. But in terms of actually being able to find it and climb into it once there, it was pretty easy. Tombs like that tended to have traps. (Revitalizing the Zhang family, Daomu Biji, Zhang Qiling, Zhang Rishan, Wu Xie, Zhang Haike)
So I like to start mid scene/mid-action, and then go back and explain/scene-describe what's going on (or just move forward from the mid-scene point). Other than that, I don't know. I tend to try to match the mood I am trying to go for, usually unsuccessfully. I should go back and read the source material more before redrafting in the future.
Whoever wants to do the ask meme can! Take this as your invite!

Are you still doing sports in Hong Kong?
My exercise schedule has changed a little, but I’m still very active. I spend much more time doing tai chi and qigong with the grandmothers in the park, I swim in the pool in the apartment complex every morning, I’ve signed up to a new Pilates class with some of the girls from work, and Joy’s parents are always trying to drag me out to play tennis and golf with them. I’m also back at the ballet school here, and taking more classes than I usually would back home to make up for the loss of my other sports.
