Sun Yang for Honey Money Phony road show in Shenyang

[Maid Time]
J does its best to be subtle about it by not immediately facing the young man, but it… squints, at the sight of the first customer.
One may assume it singing praise for its corporation meant it'd sing praise for the wealthy as well, but truthfully those were two concepts J distinctly separated in its mind. One felt like home. The other, in turn — would be the Elliott Manor. It lived in the Elliott Manor for a good portion of its life, sure, but it has no praise to sing for it, besides one tragic exception. It did, however, remember certain portions of it vividly, enough to recognize money; enough to recognize the chatter coming from the gala; enough to recognize someone privileged enough to concern themselves more with etiquette than anything that'd ever deliver any sort of end product.
Perhaps - it was precisely because of its obsession with work - that it had no admiration left for those who keep their hands gloved and clean.
That said, as much as it hated the Elliotts, as much as it'd despise anyone who carries the same whiff of extravagant wealth… it was once a maid all the same. It served the Elliotts without complaints, just how it is about to serve the stranger who's still carrying a honey-soaked smile despite it not facing him, almost as if he knew that J was capable of seeing its surroundings without facing them with its visor. Shudder.
Phony. They all are.
… no matter. The opinion of a maid did not matter.
After nodding with a smile to the … esteemed guest - it swiftly went to work, preparing Huángchá, or how a moron may call it; Yellow tea. Rare, expensive, yes — but as it thought about its nanite acid it hasn't quite retained just yet — serving the lightly oxidized tea satisfied its need to express contempt, without vocalizing any of it.
The tableware matched the drink; just how the Elliotts liked it. Ornamented silver. Kettle, tea cups and sugar served on a silver plate — matching the silver from… Luca, was it?
It was barely listening to what he was chatting about while it did its job, but it made sure to smile anyway.
#(ic) effective drone.#(asks) delegation is crucial. supposedly.#allswell#'phony' pot meet kettle lmao

“we are in a group chat with Jared btw”. No honey, you are not. Jared does not chat on social media with anyone so please do not be fooled by the many many fraudsters who try to make you believe you are talking to him. I GUARANTEE 1000% you are NOT talking to HIM or anyone associated with him nor does he read any of what you say on there. K’s flippant remark is actually telling you that the crazy people pretending to be Jared on these many chats are phonies just trying to get money from you. Please, while K is too nasty to have bothered writing this out for you in her response to your post and perhaps to even publish this, do believe both of us here… you are not communicating with JL in any way on that chat or on ANY social media site except his own IG lives and you should delete any other chats where someone says they are him. If someone else tells you they are, they are not either. Sorry but true.
Whatchu mean nasty and flippant remarks?! 😑
I'll have you know that if the prince of Nigeria kindly requests some monetary assistance, it's only common decency to lend a helping hand! 😤
Where's your compassion, man? 🤨

THE SATANISTS
Though vague as vandals
in studded hoodies
and camouflage pants,
we were congregants,
one girl, one boy,
hunkered, with candles
and all the goodies
demons enjoy,
in the hopefully hexed
and totally scary
dead lot next
to the cemetery.
We dug a hole
like a mixing bowl
and dumped in honey,
milk and wine —
then, for the money,
blood of swine.
Ad me veni.
You out there?
I threw in a penny
to cover the fare.
Teenage heathen,
we panted to breathe in
a whiff of a world
averse to the creeds
the phonies espoused.
Abandon swirled
through the waist-high weeds.
We felt we were near it.
We were aroused.
And, though no spirit
pricked up my hair
or waggled your tongue,
we will always share
what was desperately something
(if not quite love)
and the glory of
this crazy dumb thing
we did when young.

———
"Who are you going to choose, (Y/N)? Huh?" Andrew was starting to lose his patience as he stood in the doorway of the Garrison. (Y/N) had been silent for a few moments now, her head and heart playing a game of internal tug-of-war.
"I...I..." she stammered, unable to think of any other words.
"Are you going to choose me or this thankless gangster whose money is laundered and who probably has his share of whores on the side?" Andrew added more gasoline to the fire, and from the corner of her eye, she could see Tommy's jaw clench. "Don't think that all of London doesn't know how you've obtained your wealth, Mr. Shelby. One look into your surely phony export licenses will show that," Andrew turned his tirade onto the man who was getting to the end of his rope.
"Alright, stop, Andrew! Please, stop!" (Y/N) exclaimed, unable to hear anymore of his rude words, "I will marry you still, but Tommy doesn't deserve this, so please stop," she stressed her words as she glared at her fiancé, who looked pretty proud of himself at the moment. "I was in here because he was going to sign the divorce papers," she informed him then.
"Good. Fucking sign 'em," Andrew barked, nodding his head to the papers that he now saw on the counter.
"I'm sorry, Tommy," (Y/N) whispered as she turned to the other man who had a white-knuckle grip on the counter.
"Just tell me where I need to sign them," he snapped at her, his eyes on the papers. He immediately hated himself for doing that. He wasn't mad at her. He was mad at her asshole fiancé.
"Here..." she said, holding in the tears that weren't even supposed to be present as she pointed to an empty line, "...and here," she concluded, pointing to another spot on the paper. "Thank you, Tommy," she couldn't even meet his eyes as she spoke because she knew she'd start crying if she did.
"Congrats on your marriage," he told her, his words cold and void of emotion. She couldn't be mad at him for that though.
(Y/N) left her barstool then to move over to Andrew, who snatched the papers from her grasp the second she got to his side. He glanced over them before a grin formed on his face. "Now that this is sorted out, we will be married tomorrow...here, in Small Heath," he announced, making (Y/N)'s eyes widen.
"Tomorrow?! Here?!" she gasped out. Surely he was joking.
"Yes, (Y/N). Here, tomorrow. I'm not waiting a day more to make you my wife. We've drug this engagement out long enough," he told her, the firmness in his voice telling her that it wasn't up for discussion. "I'd invite you to the ceremony, Mr. Shelby, but that would mean that I'd actually have an interest in you and what you stand for," he looked over at the man who was trying so hard not to lose it at the moment. If (Y/N) wasn't in the room, Andrew would already be floating down the Cut by now.
(Y/N) sighed at her fiancé's childish behavior, knowing just from one look at Tommy that he was resisting the urge to beat the other man's face in. So she grabbed Andrew's arm and started to walk him to the doors, "come on, honey. We have many things to plan for our wedding tomorrow," she said as she urged him towards the doors. She couldn't bear to look at Tommy anymore, so she just kept her eyes fixed on the floor. Her plan had worked, and she and Andrew exited the Garrison for the car that was waiting outside of it.
——
"Tomorrow? (Y/N), that doesn't give me nearly enough time to prepare," (Y/N)'s mother gasped as her eyes widened at the news she'd just received.
"I know. Andrew wants it that way and there's no stopping him. I swear he's like a man possessed making all of these arrangements. You'd think I'd be the one who should be doing them all," (Y/N) responded with a sigh as she moved around the remaining food on her plate with her fork.
"Where has he planned to have it?"
"In the park. He said that's the only place in this 'dirty city' worthy of a wedding of ours," she told her, using air quotations around 'dirty city' because they were his words, not hers.
"And you're sure he's good to you, sweetie?" her mother checked then, noticing the lack of enthusiasm in her daughter's voice.
"He is. He's really good to me. It's just that...I just didn't expect to be getting married tomorrow is all," she sighed as she slumped her shoulders. It was all too much for her to wrap her head around.
“Well I know that you will be a beautiful bride, nonetheless," her mother sent her a smile, one that (Y/N) only half-reciprocated before she stood and took her plate to the sink. "Go and get some rest now, sweetheart, you've a big day tomorrow," she said and (Y/N) nodded, moving to the stairs then. She indeed did have a big day ahead of her tomorrow...but she wasn't sure if she wanted it or not.
——
She was wearing her dress and a hopefully believable smile on her face as she was driven to the park where her wedding was taking place. If anything, she wasn't overly thrilled at the moment because the wedding was sprung on her all of a sudden. It was like she didn't even have time to enjoy it because of everything she had to make sure was ready. But now it was time. The car came to a stop at the park's entrance, and as (Y/N) got out, she was able to see the grand set up that Andrew had orchestrated for their big day.
She took a deep breath as she began to walk into the center of it all, lining right up with the aisle that she was set to go down. She met up with her mother, who took hold of her arm happily and started to walk her to her awaiting fiancé. Andrew took (Y/N)'s hand with a smile as he brought her next to him so that they were standing across from each other now. The preacher began the service then, talking about the sacrament of marriage and all that it entailed. (Y/N) tried to calm her nerves and smile at the man who would be her husband in a matter of moments.
But someone yelling stopped the ceremony altogether. "This marriage cannot go on!" It was Andrew's lawyer, and he was walking down the aisle at a hasty pace.
Andrew let out a sigh and dropped (Y/N)'s hands so that he could turn to face the man who stopped right in front of them. "Why not now?" he asked impatiently.
"Because of (Y/N)'s divorce papers..."
"She had her bastard of an ex-husband sign them. I was there...I watched him do it," Andrew insisted, cutting Charles off before he could finish what he was saying.
"That's not the problem," Charles shook his head before he produced the papers in question, "(Y/N) hasn't signed them," he informed the annoyed man, pointing to a blank line where his fianceé's name should have been.
"What?! What do you mean she hasn't signed them?!" Andrew asked in complete shock, the gasps from the wedding's onlookers adding to the drama of the moment. (Y/N) kept her mouth shut and her expression neutral until her fiancé, who was now on the verge of fuming, turned to face her. "What does he mean you haven't signed them?" he asked her then, his voice deadly low.
"I didn't sign them because I can't go through with this," (Y/N) started, motioning to everything around her, "I can't go forward with this marriage, Andrew. I can't do this after you've talked badly about the city that I grew up in, and you've so carelessly disparaged the first man that I loved. Even after he signed those papers, you were still extremely rude to him, and I cannot be with you if that's how you're going to treat people…if that’s how you’re going to treat me one day," she said her words with brutal honesty, her eyes not leaving his once.
"So you're choosing him?" Andrew asked in shock.
"I am," (Y/N) nodded her head definitively.
"After you chose me yesterday? After you agreed to us being married today? After I spent all of this fucking money on a wedding that you wanted?!" he unleashed questions on her, his voice raising with each one he said.
"Yes, even after all of that. Because, truth be told, I didn't want this wedding to happen today, and I only chose you back there so that I could shut you up and get you out of Tommy's sight before he killed you!" (Y/N) spat right back at him, a smug smirk forming on her face as she took in his baffled expression.
"Go, (Y/N)," was all he said then.
"Excuse me?" she asked for him to repeat himself, although she was sure that she'd heard him correctly.
"Go. This is over because it is so clear that you don't want this marriage to go forward," he told her through gritted teeth.
"Ok. I'll leave. I'll leave knowing your true feelings. Thank you for our time together, Andrew," she told him, her voice calm as she stepped away from him and walked back down the aisle and away from the ceremony altogether.
She didn't even want to look back at the bewildered guests, or see her now ex-fiancé’s reaction to her words. She just wanted to get away from there knowing that she ended it amicably, even though there were some hurtful words said between the two of them. It didn't stop her from thanking him at the end...without him, she wouldn't have learned her true worth, or realized that the person she was truly supposed to be with was the one who had her heart all along.
—
"Tommy?" she called into the empty stables as she tried her best to avoid the larger puddles on the ground. She didn't even know why she was doing that, the bottom of her dress was a mess already anyway. She didn't get a response, but instead heard the sounds of shuffling coming from the last stable in the line. So she cautiously approached it.
"(Y/N)?" Tommy asked in confusion as he looked over from the horse he was brushing to see her standing a few feet away from him. He'd come to Charlie's yard to think about everything that happened within the last twenty-four hours, but he never would have guessed that she would have found him there. "How did you find me?" he asked her the very question that was on his mind.
"You always came here when you needed to think. Said that the horses helped in clearing out your mind," she told him, a small smile on her face as she took a step closer to him.
"I thought you were supposed to be getting married," he said then as he focused back on the horse, his words coming out a bit more harshly than he intended them to.
"I was," (Y/N) nodded as a sigh left her lips, "but I didn't sign the divorce papers."
Tommy's eyes snapped over to her as he heard what she said. "You...you didn't?" he asked, dropping the brush onto the ground as he stood up.
"I didn't. I couldn't go forward with marrying Andrew. Not after I realized something the second I came back to Small Heath..." she trailed off, glancing down at the ground.
"What was that?" Tommy coaxed her to continue, stepping closer to her so that he could tuck his fingers under her chin and raise her eyes to meet his once more.
"That I still want to be married to you, Tommy Shelby," she told him, her eyes not straying from his as she spoke.
Tommy let out the breath he didn't even know he was holding in as a smile formed on his face. "Well I guess it's a good thing that I still want to be married to you, too, love."
(Y/N)'s eyebrows furrowed slightly as she reached up to drape her arms over his shoulders. "But you signed the divorce papers," she pointed out.
Tommy nodded slightly, his arms dropping to hook around her waist, pulling her even closer to him. "I signed them because I wanted you to be happy. That's all I ever wanted for you, and I'm sorry that I wasn't able to give that to you before."
"Well, Tommy...I am happy. I'm happy because I'm standing in your arms again, and I'm hoping that I can be in 'em for the rest of my life," she told him, a smile forming on her face as she spoke.
"I'd say that you're in luck then, Mrs. Shelby, because I'm not lettin' you leave 'em ever again," he said with a smile before he leaned down and pressed his lips firmly to hers, reuniting the two of them with a passionate kiss that swept (Y/N) off of her feet. It'd been so long since she last kissed him, but yet it still felt like second nature to her. "I believe I still owe you a first dance," Tommy then mumbled against her lips once he'd pulled away slightly.
"Here?" (Y/N) giggled, getting lost in his eyes. What he said was true. They didn't have the typical wedding. It was more like a signing of a marriage license at a courthouse in the midst of war, but they both wouldn't have wanted it any other way.
"Yes, here," Tommy nodded, pecking her lips once more before he stepped away from her so that he could take her hand and lead her out of the stables and to another section of the yard. "Curly!" he called out for his uncle's assistant.
"Yes, Tom? What can I get ya, Tom?" the man asked as he hurried over to where the couple was standing.
"Do you still have that gramophone?" he questioned, his eyebrows raised slightly.
"Yes, yes, Tom, I do. Do you want me to go fetch it for you, yeah?" the other man answered eagerly.
"Yes, please do, Curly. Me wife and I would like to share a dance," Tommy responded with a smile as he glanced over at (Y/N).
"Ok, Tom. I'll make sure that the slow record is on it," Curly nodded profusely as he hurried away. Within seconds, he was returning with the record player in his hands. It only took him a few moments to set it up before he smiled at the couple and disappeared into the yard once more.
"Alright, Mrs. Shelby...do you want it fast or slow?" Tommy asked with a small grin as he moved over to the gramophone.
"Everything's happening so fast right now. Let's take this moment slow," she told him, a smile on her face as he dropped the needle before he moved over to her. He then took her into his arms, holding her securely against his chest as they began to slowly sway with the music. "I love you, Tommy," (Y/N) whispered after they'd been dancing in silence for a few moments.
"I love you, (Y/N)," he repeated the sentiment, smiling down at her, "we're going to have that family that you wanted. I'm making that promise to you right now, and I’m keeping it this time," he spoke with clear honesty in his words, making (Y/N)'s smile widen before she leaned upwards and matched her lips to his. She was sure of one thing as they danced around the empty yard like they used to when they were teenagers: she'd made the right choice.
——
-Two and A Half Years Later-
"Shh, love, now remember, you need to be really quiet now. Mummy's sleeping and we want to surprise her," (Y/N) could hear Tommy's hushed voice coming from the doorway of their bedroom.
"Ok. I'll tip-toe over to the bed, daddy," Arabella Shelby, who had just turned two, attempted to whisper back to him. (Y/N) wanted to giggle at her daughter's efforts, but she also wanted it to seem like she was still asleep. So she laid still as she felt the child get onto the bed and literally bounce over to the side that she was sleeping on. "Happy Birthday, mummy!" the little girl then exclaimed, her small hands falling onto (Y/N)'s shoulder as her loud voice came right next to her ear.
"Oh my goodness, Bella!" (Y/N) tried to match her child's excitement as she rolled onto her back with a wide smile on her face. "What a beautiful way to be woken up," she grinned before bringing the little girl’s face down to cover it in sloppy kisses that had Arabella laughing loudly.
"Ok, mummy, stop, stop! Daddy has something for you," Arabella screeched out as she tried to wiggle away from her mother's attack. (Y/N) listened and let her go so that she could look over at Tommy, who had a tray of food in his hands and a smile on his face. "You two made me breakfast?" she gasped as she looked at the two lovingly.
"No, mummy, Edward made you breakfast. You know that daddy can't cook," Arabella stated in a matter-of-fact tone, making (Y/N) break out into laughter. Edward, of course, was the chef that the Shelby's had on staff at their country estate.
"Thanks, Bella. I can't believe me own daughter threw me under the bus like that," Tommy stated, trying hard to feign hurt, but the smile on his face gave away that he was joking.
"Everybody knows it though, daddy!" the child continued on with her tease fest, and even (Y/N) couldn't hold back her laughter anymore.
"That's it, missy..." Tommy started as he moved over to the dresser to set the tray on top of it before he came back over to the bed, "you're gonna get it now," he said with a grin as he attempted to grab her into his arms.
"Nooo! Mummy! Save me from daddy!" Arabella shrieked in between her giggles as she scrambled to crawl over her mother's chest.
"I've got you, Bella, just be careful of mummy's belly," (Y/N) reminded her of her ever-growing baby bump.
Arabella stopped her scrambling when (Y/N) spoke, and she immediately moved down to look at her mother's stomach, "I'm sorry, baby brother. I hope I didn't hurt you," she spoke as if she was talking to the baby. (Y/N)'s heart swelled, the child had taken to calling him 'baby brother' ever since Polly informed her that she'd be having a boy this time around.
"The baby's ok, love. You just need to be more careful around mummy now," Tommy assured the child who was pouting now.
"I will, daddy. I'll be the most carefullest now," she promised him, making both Tommy and (Y/N) laugh at her choice of words.
"Why don't you go and get the presents that we have for your mum?" Tommy suggested then, making Arabella excitedly hop off the bed and run out of the room.
"Presents? Tommy...you know you didn't have to get me anything. I told you two that just a few kisses from the both of you would be enough," (Y/N) jutted out her bottom lip as she spoke, running a hand down his cheek as she looked at him lovingly.
"I know, love, but you deserve it. Especially after everything that we've been through," he told her, and she knew that this was one that she was going to lose. But it still felt like she'd won as Tommy leaned over to kiss her.
"I wouldn't wanna go through it with anyone else," she breathed against his lips before kissing him again.
They finally pulled away when Arabella's footsteps were heard approaching the room. She eagerly jumped up onto the bed and thrusted the presents she'd brought with her into (Y/N)'s arms. (Y/N) couldn't help but smile as she opened them.
She never thought that her life would turn out like this when she made the trip back into Small Heath for Tommy to sign divorce papers a couple of years ago. But now that she had her family that she'd been dreaming of her entire life, she wouldn’t have changed it for the world.

He made a video of him wearing a tuxedo in his third life, but that is fake, a diversion, catered for the politically correct audience and traditional Asian elders that wanted to see a phony light in someone’s life, that somehow he leads a good life, good as in, according to their definition and expectations! To keep his fame and followers in Social Media! No, in his original video! His third life consists of him, hosting an orgy-like party, where there are a lot of women with big tits, big ass, tiny waist, and skimpy outfits touching him and carresing him, and no guy, is present in the Party except himself! The Party is thrown by him, and he invite every beautiful women that he find in his region to attend if they want to have sex with him and only the beautiful one’s only. A lot of young women came!
He doesn’t even know or care if some of them are underage or even lied about their age. In the party there are a lot of booze, drugs, and a great deal of condoms that he want to use and trust me, he would use all of them (except for the condoms, he only put it there as a decoration or if a bitch whine and cry about it) He would let all the women to pour oil on him, and sometime milk, or even honey, caresses him, lick his body, his muscle, abs, pecs, and everything, mess with his hair, lick and bite his ears, his lips, he even have three women in the party giving him a blowjob, taking turn with each other! Alcohol is being poured in his mouth while his face is buried in 3 women boobs. If his bored of these boobs he would tell these women to turn their backs and buries his face on their asses! They comply, all of these women are so desperate in satisfying him sexually, mostly because there are no other Alpha like him in his region, and because it’s part of their self worth! If you think that only happen once, it doesn’t! It almost happened every Friday and Saturday night! Women always came, and the party always ends in great success, there is no telling how many times he cums for every party! He has great stamina! He can fuck for long hours, cum, take a break for 5 minutes, and then he gets hard again! No women left the Party unsatisfied!
People talk about him and his party and many women become so obsessed with him, paying him big money, so that he would let them go into their parties, and experience him, even though they don’t have the looks for it, because of this, his fame and his party, he become somewhat of an underground Night Emperor of his region! The Conqueror of Adult Play Time and Bed Play!

Sometime when he see a beautiful women that allready married, he would straight up ask them if they want to have sex with him, and if the husband get angry.

He ask if he wants his fist to touch his face or touch his wive’s pussy instead! No women would want to decline him, they all heard his stories and his conquest (plus his handsome as fuck)! They could pretend they don’t like it, but they all secretly lusted after him! The husband always backed down because no guy in his region are as strong and as tough as him, and the women always take up his offer (sometime pretending reluctantly) and he never disappoint them.

It’s so good being the only Alpha in his region! That is his third live! His real third life! Women’s Pussy!

The Nanny Pt. 1
Lee Bodecker x Nanny!F!Reader
18+
Word Count: 3k
Warnings: mentions of alcohol, implied age gap (reader is in her 20s), cursing, Sandy and Carl being bad parents, 18+ content in later chapters
Summary:
Based on this Request: The reader moves to Meade/Knockemstiff while answering an advertisement for a nanny in the paper. We learn that the ad was posted by Sandy, who has the reader watch her child whenever she and Carl leave to do their secret thing. After one of these trips, Sandy and her husband never return, so the reader is left caring for their baby. With the new investigation into these events, she meets Sandy’s brother Lee, the older, out of shape, alcoholic bachelor, and they are suddenly thrown into each others lives as he begins looking into his sister’s disappearance. Through it all, Lee starts to fall for her, and they slowly become a family.
A/N: Here is the first part of my newest series and I want to thank the anon who reached out to me with this idea!
If I missed anything I should include as a warning that I missed please let me know!
Taglist Form is in my bio and should be updated to now to include this fic! (If for some reason it isn’t working send me a message and I’ll make sure you’re added!!)
“Damn it, Sandy, can’t you handle that?” Carl yells from his dark room as the baby starts crying again.
“Fuck you, Carl,” Sandy shouts back, hurrying to put out her cigarette before heading to the nursery.
Their little girl was just about a year old, and neither one of them knew what they were doing. Carl was incredibly indifferent and despite her honest attempts at motherhood, Sandy’s maternal instincts never kicked in like she thought it would happen. Carl was annoyed that it cut into their time they would be on trips. They weren’t able to photograph models with the baby on the road, so he’d been itching to get back on the road.
“Is she hungry?” he shouts back, not even bothering to take his eyes off of the most recent photographs he had been developing.
“I just fed her!”
“Then why is she crying?”
“Fuck if I know,” Sandy shouts back exasperated. She scooped up the baby from her crib and started to rock her back and forth in her arms. Sandy also tried burping her, humming a little lullaby she made up on the fly… no luck. She walks around the house with the baby on her hip, trying to rock her back to sleep.
“We haven’t able to get back on the road in a year,” Carl says, clearly frustrated.
“That ain’t purely my fault,” she spits back, “Takes two to make a baby, Carl.”
“Fuck I know,” he groans, “But I need new inspiration. If I take one more picture of nature…”
“If she’s such a hindrance, pay for a damn sitter like I suggested months ago,” she counters.
“We can’t have no stranger walking around the house Sandy,” he points out.
“Just keep your damn room locked, it’s not a huge deal,” Sandy sighs. “Besides, no one is gonna snoop around if you pay ‘em enough. You damn well produce your own incriminating evidence; you should always have that room locked anyways.”
“We only have to worry about your damn brother,” Carl points out, “We hire a fucking sitter that’s two people we need to worry about.”
“You’re just to goddamn cheap to hire somebody,” Sandy states, moving back towards the nursery, the baby now snoring softly.
“You know what? Fine,” Carl says defeated. “But you’re in charge of putting the ad out and hiring somebody.”
“Thank you,” she says in a sing song tone, happy she got her way. But the moment of quiet that follows is short lived as they baby starts crying again.
“Please for the love of God can you just take care of that?” Carl yells, and the argument circles back to the beginning.
You had sat in the small dinner in the corner booth hunched over the newspaper and nursing your now cold cup of coffee. You had just arrived in Knockemstiff and were looking for work. “Any leads?” Julie asked as she topped off your coffee. Julie was your roommate. You had found her the same way you were currently looking for a job. You must have answered at least ten terrible Roommate Wanted ads until you had found Julie. The two of you now share an apartment- the top floor of a three-family owned by a sweet older couple.
“Thank you,” you say without looking up from scanning the ads. “Maybe this one?” You say pointing to one of the ads. She looks to see her manager stepped out for his smoke break before sliding in the booth across from you. You slide the paper over to her and she reads the ad out loud.
NANNY NEEDED Knockemstiff, Ohio
Couple that travels for work in need of a nanny for one-year-old daughter.
Temporary live-in position for several weeks at a time. Pay negotiable.
Call Sandy Henderson at the below number.
“I can sublet the room temporarily while you stay there,” Julie offers. “It’s a pretty vague offer,” she continues. “I wouldn’t commit until you call and speak to that Sandy woman.”
“Oh, I’m sure I’ll need to be interviewed,” you agree. “What kind of people are comfortable just leaving their baby for weeks at a time with a perfect stranger?”
“Paul is still out back I think,” she chuckles, “I’ll let you use the wall phone.”
You take a seat at one of the stools at the counter, and she dials the number for you and then passes you the receiver. You mouth a thank you and she waves her hand in dismissal as she heads over to take someone’s order.
“Whaddya want?” the woman on the other end answers abruptly.
“Oh, I’m calling about the ad in the paper regarding the nanny position. Is it still available?”
“Oh, shit. I’m so sorry, hun,” the woman says, now in a much nicer tone. “Thought it was my brother calling. Yes, it is, and we need it filled as soon as possible. When are you available?”
“For an interview?” You ask.
“Yeah,” she says mumbled, like she is dangling a cigarette from her mouth. “Can you come today?”
“Oh, wow. Yes, I can,” you reply.
“Great, um, you got a pen? Take down this address.”
About two hours, a change of clothes and a cab ride later, you were standing outside a house towards the end of town. It was a little run down, but what building in this town wasn’t? You were a little nervous of course, but it was also the most unconventional way you have gotten an interview. Part of you was relieved, because the woman on the phone sounded real, not phony, but the circumstances still made you uneasy. Julie had the address and said you’d call when you got back to the taxi dispatch.
“Welcome, welcome,” Sandy smiled, opening up the door for you. She had one hand on the doorknob and one of the cutest babies you’d ever seen in the other. “Come on in, make yourself comfortable.”
“Who is this?” you coo, leaning down to the baby’s eye level. “She’s darling.”
“This little sweetheart is Valerie,” Sandy smiles, passing the baby to you. “She’s so well-behaved. Hardly ever cries.”
“She’s adorable,” you smile, as the baby cuddles up close, resting her head on your shoulder. “I didn’t properly introduce myself on the phone. (Y/N) (Y/L/N).”
“I’m Sandy,” she introduces herself. “Please take a seat on the couch, get comfortable. I hate things that are so formal. Bleh.”
You take a seat on the couch, and readjust the little girl in your arms so she’s sitting on your lap and her back is resting against you so she is supported.
“So, my husband and I are on the road a lot, usually,” she begins, “We took some time off when we had Valerie, but we really need to start working again, you understand.”
“Of course, what do you both do?” you ask politely.
“We’re photographers,” she beams, “Mostly nature and landmarks- which reminds me! We have a darkroom in the house, but that door will be locked when you’re staying here. We don’t want any damage to any of the negatives we have stored in there you understand. Everywhere else in the house is yours to explore! And of course we gotta spare bedroom you can call your own.”
“Fair enough,” you joke.
“So, tell me about yourself, honey,” she smiles, crossing her legs in the armchair where she sat.
“Well, I just moved here a few weeks ago actually,” you begin, “I just recently finished school, and now I’m looking for work. I just got my degree in early childcare from the state college.”
“Oh, that’s wonderful,” she says with a clap of her hands. “So, you’re local?”
“Yes, I live in town.”
“Excellent! We’d also love for this to be like an on-call thing as well, you know for date nights and things like that for times when we’re home. Like for a few hours here and there. And of course, we’ll always live money for groceries or whatever you need on top of your pay for emergencies incase Valerie needs formula or diapers or anything.”
“Perfect,” you smile, surprised how well the conversation was going. Sandy was easy-going and nice to talk to. The two of you sat and talked for a little under an hour, her asking all the standard questions you anticipated. You also were able to ask her some more of your own questions as well. It was the most effortless interview you had been on easily.
“I’m sorry you weren’t able to meet Carl today,” she says when she is showing you out. “But hun, I feel confident to offer you the job. We haven’t had many applicants and you’re the most qualified one I’ve spoken to. The job is yours if you want it?”
“When can I start?” you smile, making her laugh.
“Your number is on the resume, right?” she says, scooping up the baby. You nod, waving goodbye to the baby and then saying goodbye to Sandy.
“I’ll call you when I speak to Carl, but I think once he knows he’ll want to head out as soon as we can. Plan for Sunday,” she says as you get into the cab.
Just like she had promised, you get a call from Sandy on Saturday afternoon asking you to show up the next morning at 9. You spend the day packing up your clothes and anything else you’d need for a few weeks. Sandy said they’d be back in two weeks but you pack for three just in case. Julie was also nice enough to help you. You didn’t need to do much. Ever since you had settled in Knockemstiff, you had been pretty lazy with unpacking and for once procrastination played out in your favor.
Julie insisted on taking you out to celebrate that night before starting your job tomorrow. There was a small little bar, a little shack of a place just on the outside of town you went to. Julie had a car and you drove, anticipating she’d have a lot more to drink than you. It was a hotter summer night, so you drove with the windows down and the radio playing a little louder than you normally would.
The outside was decorated with string lights of primary colors and the wooden awning looked like it was one more storm away from collapsing. But the atmosphere inside was to die for. The jukebox was playing loud dance music, and the place was crowded. Empty recycled glasses lined the walls on a high shelf as decoration along with weathered posters of anything Americana. A row of motorcycles and trucks were parked outside the little place and it looked like a pileup from how crowded the lot was. People lingered outside as well, and you both hoped you’d find seats inside.
The two of you found a high-top table and Julie made her way up to the bar, skillfully maneuvering through the crowd to grab you both some drinks. You let your eyes wandering, surveying the room and just people watching. Couples were dancing closely to the music that was rattling the jukebox, and a group of people were sitting at the bar huddles in to watch the little black and white portable television. You also noticed a group of men in uniform several tables down, local police. They weren’t paying any attention to anyone but their own conversation, except one.
He just so happened to have looked up just as your eyes landed on their table. Steel blue eyes cutting across everything and just staring right back into yours. It was a fraction of a second and his gaze was broken by Julie taking her seat across from you. You cleared your throat, and finally allowed yourself to exhale. You felt her raise an eyebrow at you but she didn’t press, just gave you a knowing smirk you brushed off. You still felt his gaze on you even if your view was now obstructed.
Sandy and Carl were in a rush when you arrived in the morning. Sandy ran you through the details of where everything was kept and told you that she would call to check in when she could when they made stopped. She helped you carry your bags in from the trunk of the taxi while Carl packed their bags in their car. He was polite enough, but you felt in your gut to just keep your distance. Sandy led you upstairs to the guest room she told you she worked to clean out for you. It was simple, a bed and a dresser with a small closet. She said it mostly had been storage and her weekend project had been clearing it out for you. It was simple, but good enough for you for sure. You thanked her and she dismissed it saying you were the one doing her a favor, making you laugh.
The whole ordeal was very hurried. Carl was rushing to get on the road as soon as possible and you could tell he was clearly irritated at how long Sandy was taking showing you around and explaining things about Valerie. Carrying the baby in your arms, you finally were settled in to your new role and Sandy gave one more big hug and a kiss on Valerie’s head before rushing down to the car. You waved to the pair of them from the small front porch, Sandy looking back and waving to the baby from the passenger seat until they were out of your line of vision.
The first day was a little daunting. New space, living in a house that isn’t yours and a baby babbling in your arms. She was a sweet thing, and she already had taken a liking to you. Heading over to her nursery, you saw that she had a little play pen folded up in the corner of the nursery and you quickly set it up in your room so you could unpack while keeping an eye on her. She babbled just happy utter nonsense to you while you navigated around the space and her big eyes just followed you, just watching you was entertaining for her for now. You were a new face and she was entertained just by that for now.
A few hours later, Valerie had settled down for a nap in the early afternoon. She was sleeping soundly in her crib and you were getting formula ready for when she woke up. It was quiet, the only noise in the house was the small sounds of your own rustling in the kitchen. You wondered when you would hear from Sandy, if it would be later tonight or in a couple of days. You just were lost in your own thoughts when you were startled by a loud knocking on the door. Instantly, Valerie began to cry. You wiped your hands quickly on the skirt of your dress before grabbing her. You rested her on your hip and rocked her gently, shushing her to calm down while you went to grab the door.
The first thing your eyes saw were the same blue eyes who was looking at you at the bar last night. The man’s eyebrows furrowed and he looked really confused. He had one hand rested on his hip and the other against the doorframe, but he stood up straight when he saw it wasn’t who he expected. Your eyes then went down to the shiny Sheriff’s Badge fixed in place on his uniform.
“Who are you?” he asks abruptly. “Where’s Sandy?”
“Sandy and Carl left this morning,” you explain, not sure if he recognizes you. “I’m their nanny.”
He laughs and shakes his head as he looks down, almost like he doesn’t believe you, or he just doesn’t believe the situation. “Carl? Carl Henderson hired a nanny?” he scoffs and you nod, holding Valerie a little closer. The little girl rubs her eyes and yawns, when her eyes flutter open, she looks at the stranger in the doorway and immediately reaches out to signal she wants to be held by him. You ignore her resistance to wanting to be in your arms until you get more information about why the Sheriff is at their doorstep, though she obviously knows him.
“I’m Sandy’s brother,” he explains, “Did she say when they were coming back?” He doesn’t try to hold the baby yet, just holds out one of his fingers and her little hand holds onto it tightly.
“Two weeks.”
“They hire a complete stranger to watch my niece and live in their house unsupervised while they drive around?” he scoffs, shaking his head again in disbelief.
“I’m more than qualified…”
“It’s not a jab at you, sweetheart,” the man tries to explain, “More so a reflection on my sister and her husband is all. They are… fairly selfish people and I wished this situation surprises me more than it does.”
“Should I tell her you came by when she calls?” you ask.
“If she calls,” the man chuckles, “Sure, let her know Lee stopped by to visit.”
“You don’t think she will?” you ask, tilting your head.
“We’ll see,” Lee shrugs, “Do I know you from somewhere?” He rests his arm back up on the doorframe and looks down to the baby again, extending out his free hand to her again and scrunching her cheeks.
“I don’t know,” you shrug, not wanting to admit you remembered seeing him last night. He purses his lips together and nods, not pressing further. He pushes off from the doorframe and puts his hands into the pockets of his leather jacket.
“Must’ve been in a dream then,” he smirks, and you feel your cheeks flush. He walks down the steps and back towards his cop car. “What did you say your name was?” he asks, turning back around.
“I didn’t,” you chuckle.
“Hmm,” he nods, and raises his eyebrows, waiting for you to fill in the blank. You tell him your name and he repeats it back to you like he’s thinking about it, trying it out to see how it sounds.
“Well,” he says, standing behind the open driver’s door, “Good luck, and I hope Sandy proves me wrong. Let me know if she calls.”

Derward 100% did not understand a lick of Korean. Of course, he assumed she would be talking trash about him no matter which language she chose to speak in, so he didn’t bother to ask what was said. Certainly he’d heard worse, anyway.
●●●●
Celebrities like Rockelle could have anyone, was Derward’s logic, so the fact she didn’t have even a peasant must’ve meant she had a pretty good reason for being alone. Frankly, he could relate. He was terribly lonely for friendship, yet he constantly chose to be alone.
“—Awww, she turned you down, too?” He threw an ‘up yours’ fist in Onyx’s general direction. By the time they reached the car with Brian in it, Derward was on his best behaviour.
“Thank you, miss. You, too, sir. You’re all just…” Honey dripping out of his mouth. “so kind.” Insert phony sniffle. The rest of the trip he was quiet, forcing a smile whenever Brian or Onyx looked at him through the rearview.
Once Brian was gone, Derward resumed his scowl and slouched shoulders with hands in pockets—Only coming out long enough to accept the Dough-Re-Mi.
He practically tore the paper big ones as he jerked them into his possession. Just as quickly, he went into innocent mode. “What floor’s OshKosh on again?” Canted head like a forgetful pup. He was going to take her dig of ‘kid’ for everything it was worth. Might even end up actually buying a few things from the child’s department. Who knows. He was perhaps at the slimmest he’d ever been, after all, and even though he was 5’10’ and no weakling, he was certain he could find something intended for children that would fit his grown-ass figure. If it had to be a crop top, then so be it. He’d worn frilled blouses just to get out of his own sweat before. The man was over labels.
“I’ve been mugged—more than once—though never by the same assailant.” Uncomfortable pause, suggesting he’d given a reason to never bother him again. The aromas wafting from the Chinese place caused his stomach to hiss. “I’ve temporarily blinded a man in both eyes to get ten bucks back, so you best believe I’d kill a motherfucker dead for forty times that…”
You might be thinking temporarily suggests mercy on Jenning’s part but that wasn’t the case… Derward had very deliberately pulled his punches, knowing that if the man was permanently blinded, strangers would only take mercy on him and give him money for nothing. He wasn’t going to roll over and hand him the win. It might even make him think mugging Derward had been worth it, justified.
Without another word, Derward strolled to the escalator and unto the upper echs (his personal shortening for echelons) of the mall. He didn’t care how long he kept Onyx waiting, if the bitch waited at all; he was going to hit every single solitary store here. Every one. Even the candle emporium… women's health… the vitashop... Dude had never even seen the inside of a mall and his curiously did not fucking discriminate.
While browsing around different places, Derward found he was getting a lot of looks. Mostly from teen girls, but there’d been a few mom ‘n’ dad aged folks looking, too, if he was being honest about it. No shame in that. He knew he wasn’t a minor. Even if… well, if they didn’t. Okay. So shame on them. The first few times the ogling happened, he assumed it was because something about him just shouted homeless bro, but the more it happened the more he noticed red faces and whispers with bit lips. People seemed to think he was cute! One chick even tried flirting for a bit. Needless to say, she walked away disappointed. He wasn’t accepting tail at this time in his life.
By the end of his trip, he’d accrued several bags, spending approximately half of the four hundred spread out over things like clothing, jewelry, skin care, shoes, and a pair of headphones to replace his current ones. Although tempted several times throughout the hours, he decided against spending any money on item he deemed frivolous; collectibles, entertainment, paraphernalia. Meals were covered at the hotel, as was TV and movies. He intended to make the other 200 last at least until someone gave him more. He wasn’t expecting more, but, still… it might happen. He might even get a job with Rockelle... or something. Anything could happen. Anything already did.
●●●●
Back down in the food court, Derward sat at a quiet table and texted Onyx that he was done with shopping and that he was now seeking supper; he would even wait for her to join him, on the off chance she wanted to. Truthfully, he was nervous that he’d be hit on again if he tried to have dinner alone. On that note, he actually hoped Onyx would come. Human sexuality was something that scared him and he didn't care to have to face any degree of it.
Onyx was busy on the phone with Brian, just telling him she was okay and that now she has to babysit some kid. She did it in Korean of course, not really caring if Deward understood. She could translate if its that big of a deal. Rockelle on the other hand waves at Deward and Onyx as they leave her presence, letting out a sigh of relief. She wonders if people wondering in here would become a normal occurrence and that thought alone annoyed her to all hell.
“Be safe you guys!” She called before they disappeared and left the building. As soon as they left and the door shut behind them, she got into her employees ass about this. Now she wasnt loud or unreasonable, in fact she was calm and collected. It seemed to scare her team even more since when shes upset, she sics Onyx on them but they REALLY fucked up if she came and spoke to them.
As Deward started to ask questions, she holds up a finger as she finishes up her conversation with Brian before hanging up. After sending a text or two, she looks up, pushing open the door for him. “Dont make me laugh, Rockelle doesnt have anyone. Too nervous to date anyone honestly. Brian is my husband. He only cares because he doesnt want me to be mean to those who dont deserve it.” Would it be a stretch to say Deward reminded her of him in a weird way?
They both had naive tendencies and often trusted so easily. It got Brian in his issue with Alymer that she caused. Even if its been over 20 years ago, she still couldnt fully stomach that she left him. She never forgave herself despite everything they been through, thank god he loved her so much to look over it. “Dont get any ideas about her being single, she doesnt date kids.” Was that a dig?
When they both got to Onyx’s car, a very nice vehicle, a man was in the passenger seat. She greets him in Korean and kisses his cheek before sitting down. “So heres the plan, we are going to go by the mall to pick you up a few things and Brian will get the hotel room while we are shopping. We are gonna grab some food for you and after that, you are free to do whatever in your room. Rockelle should contact you later today.” She continues before putting on her seatbelt and telling Brian to go.
After awhile, they made it to the mall and Onyx gets out the car, waiting for Deward to follow. Once he did, she hands him some cash, roughly 400 dollars. “Here. Buy any clothes you want.” She said in her deadpanned tone, walking into the mall. “And put it away, Im not giving you more if you get mugged.”

Nostalgic flickers of screaming along to this song live in Maryland 2014
Erroneous, harmonious,
I'm hardly sanctimonious,
Dirty clothes, I suppose we all outgrow ourselves
I'm a fake, I'm a phony,
I'm awake, I'm alone, I'm homely,
I'm a Scorpio
Put me on a pedestal and I'll only disappoint
You tell me I'm exceptional and I promise to exploit you
Give me all your money and I'll make some origami, honey
I think you're a joke but I don't find you very funny

I Feel Lonely
I feel lonely
The love is phony
I want the money
You give the honey
I feel pain
Rain on my window pain
I want love
The kisses and hugs
I feel weak
Done reached my peak
I want a partner
I think sharper
I feel hopeless
Heart lost focus
I want dreams
To see what it all means
