Agree. People need to realize harassment and death threats never get anyone on your side. It just makes you look crazy.

Plus the Harry Potter fandom was already turning on JK Rowling years before she even outed herself as a transphobe, and when she did out herself as a transphobe, almost every HP fansite and blog posted the trans flag and encouraged fans to try and buy used items and fan made merch instead of new, officially licensed products. And then if you do break the boycott, make up for it by donating an equal amount you spent or more to pro-LGBTQ charities.

On what basis do you assume this? By all counts former big fans would logically be the biggest haters after this. They looked up to her. They feel betrayed and hurt, especially since HP used to be something that really resonated with the very queer people she is now attacking. This is personal to them.

I know it seems logical at first that the people who didn’t like her before would be the loudest detractors after her descent into raving bigotry and xenophobia, while ex fans would be more conflicted and more reluctant to embrace extreme anger, but when you think about it more, it’s the opposite. Why would people who didn’t like her work before be the loudest detractors? They didn’t care about her. She’s just another celebrity who turned out to be a terrible person. Add her to the list, it reaches the moon. Someone who doesn’t value HP as a work dearly important to them is just going to go “well that sucks” and move on.
