Writing this one broke me. I had to stop and get a hug from my husband before I could finish it. So, because I made myself suffer, I'm dragging everyone else down with me.
Whumptober prompts 20: Emotional Angst shoulder to cry on | giving permission to die | “it's not your fault” word count: 1,101 Some background info: This was a slightly altered discarded idea that would have been part of another story I was writing from a different fandom in an attempt to add more characters. That other story was a 7 Days to Die AU. 7 Days to Die is a zombie game. When you get infected in the game you can cure a certain percentage by using items. Honey (5%), Herbel Antibiotics (20%), and Antibiotics (25%). Obviously when the infection gets to 100% you die.
~-~-~
He ran up the road as fast as his tired legs would take him. Almost there. Almost back to the house. As Geoff reached for the door, there was a sound behind him. The groaning and shuffling that was way too familiar. “Not now...” Turning, he gripped the bat tighter. There was only one. Good. Stepping down off the porch, Geoff approached the zombie. When he got about a dozen feet away he held the bat with both hands and, with another step forward, swung as hard as he could knocking it to the ground. He grimaced in pain from the wound on his arm, before he grabbed the knife he carried and stabbed it in the head. Quickly, he got up and hurried back to the door. He could retrieve the knife later...
“Layne!?” he called out. Glancing in the kitchen as he passed by, he saw a half prepared meal. Geoff hurried to the bedroom and practically threw open the door. “Layne.”
Layne shifted his arm off from over his eyes and looked over. “Hey... You're back.” Geoff let out a sigh of relief and headed over to the bedside. “I tried to cook you something but-”
“I told you to rest.” Layne just smiled weakly as he rested his arm back over his eyes.
Geoff pulled his backpack off and, setting it down on the chair, pulled it open. “What did you bring me?” There was a pause. “Tell me it's not honey.”
“... It'll help.” Layne shook his head. “Layne.”
“No...”
He crouched down next to the bed. “It'll buy us some more time.”
“No,” Layne spoke, his tone sharper than what Geoff was used to hearing as of late.
“Layne, please.” Pulling his arm off of his eyes, Layne turned his head to look at his friend. “It's all I could get. I couldn't... I tried. I tried to get antibiotics. But... But someone else...” He couldn't keep the desperation and despair out of his voice.
Layne reached out and rested his hand on top of Geoff's. “It's not your fault.”
“I couldn't-” But Layne shook his head.
“The infection. I was reckless. And I know you tried your best. To help me. But I can't do this anymore, Geoff. I'm tired.”
“Please take the honey.”
“Keep it. In case you need it later.”
Geoff shook his head. “I can't lose you. I,” his voice cracked. “I can't do this alone. Let me keep trying.”
He almost gave in. But Layne knew he didn't have long. He was exhausted constantly and didn't even have the energy to walk around the house. His attempt to cook earlier made him sick. Honestly, he didn't know if he could even stomach eating the honey if he wanted to. But if he could... “It will probably only get me through the night...”
“Then- Then take it. And we'll leave. We'll find help.”
With a slow sigh, Layne told him, “You know I can't travel anymore.”
Stubbornly, Geoff told him, “Then I'll duct tape some rope to this mattress and drag you.” Layne let out a light laugh but otherwise remained quiet. “We can still get rid of the infection.”
Closing his eyes, he let out a breath. “Geoff, please. Let me go. It's been two weeks.” Layne hated telling him this. They've both lost too much already. Everyone they knew and loved was gone. They were all each other had. And now he was telling him to let him die and lose the last person close to him.
“... You can't ask me to do that.”
“I'm sorry...” His next breath came shallow. Layne realized just then, that his heart-rate had started to slow. There wasn't much time left. Though he wasn't scared, he had already resigned himself to this fate a couple days ago. No. He felt guilt. If he'd been more careful, not been reckless, then he wouldn't be putting his friend through this. “Can you, just stay with me. Until it's over?”
Geoff closed his eyes as he fought back the pain and tears. Then swallowed. “Okay,” he nearly whispered.
“Thank you.”
Silence fell heavily over the room. Geoff watch over his friend. His attention on his face for a bit, but then noticed how shallow his breathing was. How slowly his chest would rise and fall. He almost didn't make it back in time. Layne would have died here alone. Geoff would never have forgiven himself. Just like all the other things that have happened. He would have just added it to the pile. Though this one would have been the worst. Right next to losing Kathy.
He let out a shuddered breath. And it startled him when he felt Layne's hand grip lightly over his. Geoff glanced quickly from his hand to Layne's face. His friend slowly blinked his eyes open for a moment and attempted a smile before his eyes fell closed again. Then, not even a minute later, his breathing stopped and he was still.
Geoff didn't move at first. And when he did he looked down to the floor. His eyes stung with tears. This was it. He couldn't even help Layne. The one thing he should have been able to do. And he couldn't. As he blinked tears fell. Geoff let out another shuddered breath. He should go. But he didn't get up. Couldn't bring himself to do so. He just... He just wanted a little more time. Just a little more time.
He should have known it was a mistake. But grief made him forgot in that moment. And when the zombie with Layne's face opened its eyes and lurched up did he realize his mistake. Geoff jerked back, lifting his arms in defense as the zombie that looked like his friend launched itself at him. Its teeth catching his already injured arm tearing it open anew as he fell onto his back bumping the chair with his shoulder. Geoff struggled against him as he stared at Layne's face. He managed to bring a leg up for leverage and shove him, it, away. It fell back onto the bed and Geoff scrambled to his feet. Grabbing his backpack, he rushed for the door. Seconds after he left, shutting the door and leaned against it, he felt the bang from the other side. Geoff pushed away from the door and, cradling his injured arm, ran from the house.

Do u have favourite ocs from your mutuals? I know u like Farris but is there any more ocs u simp or like from other friends?
I'm glad you asked, Anon! But get ready because it's a lot uehehehehhe...
@aesopsbaby : I like all of their characters but my favourite has got to be Nathan. I dunno! I like that old-fashioned lover boy vibes lol. I would wanna see more of him.
@naciela : Sir, she is the queen of making hottest characters and this syndrome is so bad that I would have to name a whole list of family whom I like 😭. But for now, I would stick to two of her characters. That is, Li Shui and Raafa.
@kumaronoa : KAI!!!! KAI!!!!! KAI!!!!!
HE IS THE ICON! THE LEGEND! THE MOMENT HIMSELF!!!
and he has a free pass of stepping on me fr. Jen is a legend herself. Good art but also good characters?! Get a load of her!
@babufactory : They are also one of the artist friends whom I really enjoy. I have watched their streams and it's honestly a vibe jam. Of course, I would have to go with Nielh as my favourite. They are a very well-written and sexy character and I love that so damn much.
@boiling-potato : I'm very sorry but I seriously gotta mention the sweet potat herself, okay? Other than Farris, I also enjoy Luke and Cyrus. Talking about the girls, I absolutely adore Ink (and Lunie too. I miss her bitter face fr 😭)
@boundinparchment : Karina My Beloved, please marry me. I have a ring pop to offer~
I mean, yes! Juni's characters are very deep and likeable. I like how much love and effort she puts in all of her characters. It's very intresting and enjoyable to watch them through their stories how they bloom and wilt and bloom bigger than ever! If you are to search ‘character development' in urban dictionary, Juni's name is ought to be there.
@the-soupiest-artist : I!!! ABSOLUTELY!!! ADORE!!! HER!!!! CHARACTER!!! DESIGNS!!!!
There is just something about her art that really draws me in. It's not only the character development but also I love how enthusiastic Layne is! And honestly it would pain me to choose a favourite out of her characters. But if I'm very obliged to, I would take the horny bastard, Sebastièn.
@honey-para : That priest dude from the unholy trinity? He has my heart, sir. He can step on me and drown me in holy water, I will not complain.
Honey can take any fandom and turn it magically sexy by their bomb art, prove me wrong. They have literally sucked me in through their fandom content, it's addictive 😭!!!
@kerwixi : ANOTHER UNDERRATED ARTIST!!! I enjoy their works too!! They have cool character designs and colour schemes. I honestly like Navere the most. And since Fontaine is soon about to arrive, I anticipate him shining more!
@vodyaniks : Crow aesthetic? Check. Lovecraftian elderich horror? Check. The coolest artist around? Check!
Y'all have a full package of a super cool person right here, lovelies! Plus, they have a lot of OCs but my favourite is Maya (pls marry me).
I think that's all I can recall. If I have forgotten anybody, I'm very sorry AHH. If y'all are reading this, I LOVE Y'ALLS OCS AND EACH OF THEM GET A WEDDING RING POP FROM MEEEEEEE!!!!!

Aca Top 10: Summer Hits 2015 — VoicePlay music video
youtube
VoicePlay had kicked off their "Aca Top 10" series with the hits of summer 2014, and the next year gave them just as much good fodder to draw from. Their continued busy schedule provided the same impetus for another medley they could record in a way that didn't require much editing, but that doesn't mean they cut corners on their musicality or the party vibes.
Details:
title: Aca Top 10 — Summer Hits 2015
original songs / performers: "Time of Our Lives" by Pitbull & Ne-Yo; [0:23] "Want To Want Me" by Jason Derulo; [0:40] "Honey, I'm Good" by Andy Grammer; [0:56] "Sugar" by Maroon 5; [1:09] "Fight Song" by Rachel Platten; [1:20] "Bad Blood" by Taylor Swift, featuring Kendrick Lamar; [1:30] "See You Again" by Wiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth; [1:40] "Watch Me" by Silentó; [1:52] "Can't Feel My Face" by The Weeknd; [2:07] "Shut Up and Dance" by Walk the Moon
written by: "Time of Our Lives" by Armando "Pitbull" Pérez, Lukasz "Dr. Luke" Gottwald, Henry "Cirkut" Walter, Shaffer "Ne-Yo" Smith, Vinay Rao, Stephan Taft, & Michael "Freakin" Everett; "Want To Want Me" by Jason Derulo, Ian Kirkpatrick, Samuel Denison Martin, Lindy Robbins, & Mitch Allan; "Honey, I'm Good" by Andy Grammer & Nolan Sipe; "Sugar" by Mike Posner, Adam Levine, Joshua "Ammo" Coleman, Lukasz "Dr. Luke" Gottwald, Jacob Kasher Hindlin, & Henry "Cirkut" Walter; "Fight Song" by Rachel Platten & Dave Bassett; "Bad Blood" by Taylor Swift, Max Martin, Karl "Shellback" Schuster, & Kendrick Lamar; "See You Again" by Cameron "Wiz Khalifa" Thomaz, Charlie Puth, Justin "DJ Frank E" Franks, Andrew Cedar, Dann Hume, Josh Hardy, & Phoebe Cockburn; "Watch Me" by Ricky "Silentó" Hawk & Timothy Mingo; "Can't Feel My Face" by Ali Payami, Savan Kotecha, Max Martin, Abel "The Weeknd" Tesfaye, & Peter Svensson; "Shut Up and Dance" by Ben Berger, Eli Maiman, Ryan McMahon, Nicholas Petricca, Kevin Ray, & Sean Waugaman
arranged by: Geoff Castellucci
release date: 3 September 2015
My favorite bits:
the cool percussion riff Layne puts in as a radio edit during "Time of Our Lives"
the breakdown moment in "Honey, I'm Good"
Tony's fantastic side-eye as he sips his coffee during Earl's solo on the first two lines of "Bad Blood"
Eli leaning on Earl's shoulder, and Geoff and Layne gazing fondly at each other during "See You Again"
once again giving the most attention-seeking lyrics to Tony, who's actually quite shy (but performs it well, nevertheless)
Geoff's concerned expression as he makes sure that he can, in fact, feel his face
everyone else cutting out the first time Tony sings ♫ "shut up and dance with me" ♫
Layne gleefully tossing the final sign at the end of a successful take
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Trivia:
A full arrangement of "Shut Up and Dance" was part of the Disney Sessions collaborations VoicePlay did with the cast of Newsies as part of the 20th anniversary celebration for Disney On Broadway earlier in the year.
They also included a snippet of "Bad Blood" in their Patreon launch video.
It seems as though the arrangement process happened about a month before they released the video, possibly during their downtime on a cruise ship.

Nuttin’ Honey
That’s what I have to share today - absolutely nuttin’.  It was a lazy Saturday here on our patch.  I raced through a few morning chores and spent the remainder of the day puttering in my craft room. I’m thinking of maybe, perhaps, considering the possibility of (did I say maybe?) building enough of an inventory of my earrings, cards, and the bits and bobs that I make, and having a booth at the next Artisans on the Choptank.  Even saying it out loud scares me.  I feel like an imposter including myself with the “artisans”, but I really need to do something with all this stuff I’m making. A booth costs $50 and I’m going to be really embarrassed if I don’t even make enough to cover the cost of the booth. But I guess being embarrassed is the price I’ll pay to figure out if I can make something out of a hobby.  Friends and family will say that they love my stuff because they sort of have to, but strangers will prove whether folks are willing to part with money for my goods. Eek!  My cards make me laugh, but I’m a weirdo.  My earrings are kind of cute, but not everyone shares my taste. I’m also doing a crafty thing with old watches, more on that later.  The next Artisans (and Nancy) on the Choptank event is on September 17th, so I have about two months to get ready.  That means building an inventory AND coming up with a way to display it all. It also means giving myself a pep talk every day between now and then so I don’t chicken out. Anywayyyyy I mentioned that I raced through my chores this morning, but after that I went outside to pull a few weeds and water some pots.  Last spring I planted sunflowers along the front porch and they’ve been playing peek-a-boo for the last couple of days.  They’re almost ready to show their cheerful faces.
Tumblr media
You can see that something has been munching on them.  I’ve been so lax about spraying neem oil and plucking bugs.  Shame on me. Honestly, the local pests have plenty of woods and wetlands in this area, why do they have to pick on my garden?  Speaking of woods, I finally named our house.  Everywhere we’ve lived, I’ve given our home a name - I called our place in Mt. Juliet Sunset Acres because I got to enjoy sunsets over Farmer Layne’s field every evening for decades.  Our new place sort of had me stumped, there’s no obvious feature like a babbling brook or double tree.  Thank goodness there’s a 5 year old girl in my life who is convinced the strip of woods behind our house is full of fairies.  Every fairy land must have a name, right?  She enjoys books about Pixie Hollow so that name was already taken, and I didn’t want anything too cutesy anyway. But there are a couple of tall Sassafras trees out there, so this house is officially Sassafras Woods.  Calling it “woods” is pretty grand for the stand of trees behind us, but the dictionary says that woods are, “an area of land, smaller than a forest, that is covered with growing trees”. That checks the box.  It’s also got a bit of whimsy to it, so it works for me. By the way, those woods, where I spent several days during the spring, pulling down creepy vines, chain-sawing away small trees, and clearing brush...they’re looking overgrown again.  Gettin’ kinda’ creepy back in Sassafras Woods.  I need to take another swipe at it. It’s a jungle.
Tumblr media
I’ve been pleasantly surprised that my little Lazy Susan vine has taken off.  I gave it some twine to climb toward the porch and it’s making a run for it.
Tumblr media
It’s on both sides of that drain pipe. That’s the corner of the porch that I claimed as my spot.  The Morning Glory vine is doing well too, but not a bloom in sight. The side of the house that I expected to be a riot of color is...not.  I mean it’s okay.  The zinnias are blooming like crazy, though the sunflowers there look a little thin.  They’re not showing any faces yet, but they’re a different variety than the front porch pretties.  Look at this mess.
Tumblr media
Everything that I’ve read about skinny/spindly sunflowers says that they’re not getting enough sun.  These things are in sun all day long.  See that floppy Bee Balm in the corner?  It’s gone crazy and is sort of all over the place.  If I allow it, it’ll take over that whole bed, and I’m going to let it.  I love Bee Balm. Even better, hummingbirds and bees love it.  A week or so ago I was sitting in my porch spot and watched a hummingbird bounce bloom to bloom on those flowers. That’s all I needed to see.  Next year that’ll be a big ol’ patch of Bee Balm and I’ll post a sign that says, “Hummingbirds welcome!”.  All of those Zinnias were planted for the grandgirl so she can pick flowers when she comes over.  I told her that was her picking garden and she said that she loves the colors. At least that was a win.  We’ve got a mole(s) making runs in the back yard, and last week I watched a chubby groundhog help himself to some greenery back there.  I stood on the back porch and made a video and he wasn’t in any hurry to leave.  When he turned to go, he exited through the fence and could barely squeeze his bum through the pickets. He’s eating well.  Could explain why my basil looks ravaged.  Anywho, I pulled some weeds and did a bit of tidying before the clouds moved in and dumped some welcome rain on us. I decided that it was a good afternoon to turn on a crime podcast and play with clay.
Tumblr media
That brings me back to building some sort of inventory that people might buy.  The local high school is North Caroline High, their mascot is a bulldog and their colors are blue, black, and white.  With the market being in September, I thought perhaps some earrings in school colors?  If students think they’re lame, maybe moms or faculty would wear them.
Tumblr media
Obviously those aren’t finished yet, but it’s a start.  I also played around with glitter and clay, thinking maybe something sparkly for Christmas?
Tumblr media
I wasn’t thrilled with those, but today was mostly practice.
I was thinking that maybe something for Halloween with a Hocus Pocus vibe?
Tumblr media
Those actually look more like Mardi Gras earrings.  But they’re just a base, I could add spider webs, or they could dangle from little bats or witch hats. I’m not really feeling it at the moment.  Maybe I should forget about themes and just make pretty earrings. If nothing sells I’d rather be stuck with a bunch of generic earrings than limited holiday stuff. I made these a couple of months ago, they’re pretty simple - would work in any season.
Tumblr media
OR I COULD JUST NOT DO ANY OF THIS. My cards are my true love.  They make me snicker and I really enjoy doing them.  There’s rarely a screw up, the supplies are inexpensive, and I can let my imagination run wild. Today I made this gal.  She’s not on her card yet but I’ll grab some pretty paper and ribbon and make it happen.
Tumblr media
I need to take my own advice and paddle my own canoe, right?  I love words more than I love clay, the clay is just sort of a side gig.  BUT, people probably buy more earrings than greeting cards.  I’m overthinking this.  I should just make what I like and hope for the best.  My angst is because I’m cheap.  I don’t want to use up my supplies and feel like I wasted it all.  On the other hand it’s pointless to let it gather dust.
Tumblr media
Can you tell I’ll be loads of fun for the next couple months?  I don’t know why I’m like this.  I’m going to blame the stars.  A friend once sent me this:
Libras can be indecisive. Their airy open-mindedness can make decision-making especially difficult. Since Libras can get caught up on the pros and cons of every side, making definitive decisions isn’t their strong suit. They’re great mediators of conflict, but are challenged when they have internal mental battles between two options.Going out on a first date or to a special event, Libra might change clothes in front of the mirror several times before deciding on the perfect outfit. And perfection is another Libra pursuit; they fear disappointing others or making the wrong decision. It’s not my fault, it’s my destiny. Or is it? I can’t decide. On that ridiculous note I’m outta’ here.  I’m off to take a soak in the tub and worry about what I should do. I hope that YOU are confident in your talents, accepting of your flaws, and brave enough to follow your dreams. I believe in you! XOXO, Nancy

Fav. fic type: Fluff, definitely. I am a sucker for well written coffee-shop and flower-shop aus, too. Smut's fine, but only if it's romantic. I can't do angst if there's no comfort.
Fav. Holiday: Hanukkah or Halloween! I love autumn and winter
Partners?: Yes! I have a girlfriend (queerplatonic) who I love very much, and a boyfriend (romantic) who I love very much :]
Fun facts:
- Even though I'm a cat person, I really, really want a dog.
- I actually used to play sports. Because I don't do gendered leagues anymore, I don't play, but I've been looking for mixed/gender-neutral/queer sports teams. Baseball and basketball specifically!
- I started questioning my identity in 2019; I'm no closer to finding a label now than I was then. The difference is, now I don't want a label. I just am. :]

Thank you💖💖
I’ll try not to post all Greta songs lmao

youtube
I’ll post a read more because I want to ramble about each song
1. Bike - Pink Floyd. I am obsessed with early Pink Floyd. Bike is just one of the songs I love from the Syd Barrett era, as well as See Emily Play, Arnold Layne, Flaming and basically the entirety of The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. I’ve been listening to Pink Floyd my whole life and I had no idea that this version of them existed. I only just found out a few years ago when I watched a Pink Floyd documentary and they talked about Syd. I found it interesting and also sad but I started to listen to their songs more
2. Supermodel - Maneskin. This is one of their new songs. I’ve became a fan a few years ago. Literally from just looking at them. I haven’t heard their music, they were introduced on the Italian show, Johnny Lombardi, and I liked their outfits so I looked them up and loved their music. That same year they performed at Sanremo then later at Eurovision. It was the first time I watched Eurovision and I was so happy they won. That was so cool to watch.
3. Takin It Back - Mooncity Masters. I first saw these guys on America’s Got Talent. They performed for like three seconds before Simon stopped them which was annoying because I was liking them. I looked them up and became a fan so screw you Simon lol. They’re very very underrated so definitely check them out. Also they’re twins which is cool.
4. Seashore - The Regrettes. I found this song on YouTube during the pandemic. I was listening to a lot of new music, I discovered them around the time I discovered gvf but before them. (Which is why the incident happened that I thought they were girls because I was listening to a lot of girl bands lol) But yeah I really liked this song and I’m going to listen to more of their music because I don’t know that many songs by them.
5. Heartbreaker - Dirty Honey. This band is another new band that I really like. They have really great songs. Heartbreaker is one of my favourites of theirs, idk why but I always get a nostalgia feeling listening to it, maybe because it sound so old school. It would be awesome if they did some shows with gvf and even more awesome if it’s a show in my city (maybe I’m asking too much lol)

The Sing-Off, s.4 ep.2 — Party Anthems
Some competitors on The Sing-Off have described the filming process as their most grueling summer camp experience ever. The audience might imagine dozens of performers doing nothing but singing and dancing together all day as one long party, but that's the magic of the performing arts. It takes a lot of hard work to make having fun look so effortless.
.
Group opener
youtube
Most party anthems aren't very complex in terms of music or lyrics, and that's kind of the point. They're intended to be simple, fun, and repetitive so the listener doesn't have to think too hard about structure or meaning. They're meant to inspire dancing, not dissertations. But when your audience is presumably sitting and watching rather than grooving along, it's smart to graft a few different songs together to make things more interesting.
Details:
title: group party anthem medley
original songs / performers: "Let's Get It Started" by the Black Eyed Peas; [0:48] "Die Young" by Kesha; [1:48] "Don't Stop the Music" by Rihanna
written by: "Let's Get It Started" by William "will.i.am" Adams, Allan "apl.de.ap" Pineda, Jaime "Taboo" Gomez, Terence Yoshiaki, Michael Fratantuno, & George Pajon, Jr.; "Die Young" by Kesha Sebert, Lukasz "Dr. Luke" Gottwald, Benjamin Levin, Nathaniel Ruess, & Henry "Cirkut" Walter; "Don't Stop the Music" by Tor Erik Hermansen, Mikkel S. Eriksen, Tawanna Dabney, & Michael Jackson
arranged by: The Sing-Off arrangers
air date: 11 December 2013
My favorite bits:
DeeDee's gorgeous solo riff to kick things off
Calle Sol getting to really show off their dance training
the wonderful juxtaposition of Street Corner Renaissance singing "Die Young"
Honey and VJ's duet front and center
and, of course, Honey getting the last word
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Trivia:
Tony and Geoff were probably relieved not to be in the first section. They had already sung "Let's Get It Started" plenty of times in the Beetlejuice show at Universal Studios.

On the night this episode aired, VoicePlay were livetweeting from backstage at a gig. Those fellas have stamina.
The ending section of this medley was reworked and expanded to serve as the group closing number for the 2014 Sing-Off tour.

Does Layne want chicken strips at the party for his daughters or himself?
.
Order of performances
Vocal Rush — "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)" by C&C Music Factory
Home Free — "Life Is a Highway" by Tom Cochrane
VoicePlay — "Play That Funky Music" by Wild Cherry
Street Corner Renaissance — "Do You Love Me" by The Contours
Element — "Raise Your Glass" by P!nk
AcoUstiKats — "Hey Ya" by OutKast
Calle Sol — "Livin' La Vida Loca" by Ricky Martin
Ten — "Hot In Herre" by Nelly
The Filharmonic — "This Is How We Do It" by Montell Jordan
.
VoicePlay performance
youtube
[Here is another version with the intro package and judges' comments.]
This is VoicePlay doing what they do best on stage — not just singing, but entertaining. From the shiny suits to the intentionally goofy dance moves to the acting, they put on a full performance. Add in the surprise of Honey spitting bars on the second verse, and it's the perfect recipe to impress the audience and the judges.
Details:
title: Play That Funky Music
original performers: Wild Cherry
written by: Rob Parissi
arranged by: VoicePlay
air date: 11 December 2013
My favorite bits:
setting the tone with their Night at the Roxbury vibes
Tony's indignance at Honey walking away and making him stumble
the rhythm section getting to sing a lead duet for the last line of the first chorus
that smooth breakdown section
the harmonies on the descending ♫ "Pla-ay-ay-ay-ay-ay" ♫
Layne's final drum fill and cymbal crash as they all fall down
the other groups in the stage-side boxes giving them wild applause
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Trivia:
When they performed this song during the Nashville show on the 2014 Sing-Off tour, Geoff accidentally kicked Earl in the head as they dropped to the stage at the end. (Luckily, he was fine.)

Judges' choice

Ultimate sing-off
AcoUstiKats vs. Calle Sol — "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)" by Kelly Clarkson
Eliminated: Calle Sol

Hi! I wanted to ask if you had an all-stars list. Like recommendations of best of all time or personal favourites?
That's a great question, and I don't think I do! I feel like it'd be changing all the time. I can tell you a few by genre, if that helps?
Contemporary F/F Romance: Mistakes Were Made by Meryl Wilsner
Contemporary M/F Romance: Take a Hint, Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert
(My fave contemp M/M Romance was by an author I would definitely never recommend again, and I'm not as well read in it now as I used to be, so I'll just mention my most recent fave, which is You're a Mean One, Matthew Prince by Timothy Janovsky)
Women's Fic: Honey Girl by Morgan Rogers
Short Stories: Rainbow Rainbow by Lydia Conklin
Historical Romance: The Lady's Guide to Celestial Mechanics by Olivia Waite
Historical Mystery: Lavender House by LC Rosen
Historical Thriller: The City Beautiful by Aden Polydoros
Contemporary Thriller: Temper by Layne Fargo
Adult Fantasy: The Unspoken Name by AK Larkwood
YA Fantasy: Black Wings Beating by Alex London (trilogy), The Midnight Lie by Marie Rutkoski (duology), Girl, Serpent, Thorn by Melissa Bashardoust
YA Sci-Fi: Crownchasers by Rebecca Coffindaffer (series), The Disasters by MK England (standalone)
YA Paranormal: Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas
YA Magical Realism: Wild Beauty by Anna-Marie McLemore
YA Psych Thriller: The Wicker King by K. Ancrum
That feels like a long enough list to start with!

“Yeah, each to their own right?” Ollie smiled, looking up at Roman for just a moment before back down at his daughter. The question made Ollie want to giggle a little but of course he didn’t, not wanting to make Roman feel silly for not fully understanding. Why would he after all? Vegetarianism just wasn’t something he was familiar with. “Yeah, so vegetarians eat animal products but just no meat. So eggs, cheese, milk, honey - that kind of thing. Vegans are strictly plant-based, so no animal products. I’m probably closer to vegan than vegetarian, but I’m not too strict so I prefer to just say vegetarian,” he explained with a small shrug.
Tumblr media
“Your family are lucky to have you,” Ollie murmured, reached out tentatively to give Roman’s shoulder a light squeeze. He couldn’t imagine his own father being so willing to help - despite all Roman’s flaws, it was clear just how much he loved his kids. “Corey… Layne’s mentioned that name before but I don’t think I’ve met him before. How does your family know him?”
Truth be told, Roman still did not get it.  However, he was not going to be rude to his future son-in-law about his eating habits when they were clearly more healthy than his own.  “I guess if that is what you prefer,” he responded with a shrug.  It would be hard to cook for Oliver, if he was ever presented the opportunity.  After all, he was a werewolf and a mostly meat diet was what was best for him…although he tended to be a heavy meat and potato guy before his transformation too.
Roman nodded, “yeah.  Makes sense.  Do you um, eat eggs and cheese?”  He never really fully comprehends the difference between a vegetarian and a vegan.  The man knew there were similarities, but that was about it.  “Of course, I would do anything to help my family.”  In a sense his sentiment was true, he would do a lot.  However, the one thing he needed to do he simply felt he was unable to do.  “No, not yet.  But plan to own my property soon with the help of Corey.”
