From there, they'd slipped a coded message to his sister, who'd dragged their brother with her at her next visit and they'd made a daring escape to the harbour and out of the city. Their reactions to his survival had been about what he'd expected, and he was so glad he'd gotten there when he did.

Octavian was a lot of things, a usurper, and slimy weasel, and a weakling hiding behind Agrippa's skirt, but he wasn't stupid.
