i feel like we all talk about crossroads of destiny, day of black sun, and zuko alone as pivotal moments for zukos development, but can we get some commotion for the seige of the north??!!? seeing zuko so desperate to capture aang to the point he almost dies because of his determination, and the fact that we are rooting for him as he infiltrates the northern water tribe despite him being the villain. his monologue about azula and him trying to justify his fathers actions to himself and an unconscious aang. its so good, its the culmination of this tension about his character throughout the whole season and its a heavy precursor to his turning point at the beginning of book 2.

Just some of my thoughts on Ruth's death (including Just For Once) real quick:

So. In 'Just For Once', I am assume the main part song is from the point of view of the character she's playing, a middle-aged woman with a simple, complicated, but happy life. But the fun part comes in during the chorus, when the line 'Just for once' is actually used. From what I can infer (which may be completely wrong), these are referring to her dream of acting. How if she could just be on stage and perform without her anxiety and insecurities, just for once she could finally feel alive, and have a reason to live. (Also, it is implied that she's the only person doing lights for the Barbecue Monologues, and let me tell you, that shit is difficult. The level of dedication she would need to have to put that much effort into a production that she doesn't even get to be on stage for is incredible, seeing as she clearly isn't respected by the teacher in charge. She cares a lot about theatre.)

She kills it in Just For Once, pours her whole heart out in a beautiful combination of her characters feelings and her own, and the only person who sees it is Max. The guy who kills her minutes later. And something else, too. Richie got a death song. He got a final duet with Max before hes murdered. Ruth, who clearly cares more than anything about performing and singing, didn't. She isn't even given the chance.

She gets a horrific death (genuinely makes me a tad uncomfortable to watch with the sound effects) on the same stage where she poured her heart out for an audience of One. She had one clear dream, and by sharing it, unknowingly signs her own death warrant. If she hadn't been left alone on the stage, she would have never shared her inner feelings, but then again, if she hadn't been left alone, Max wouldn't have had the chance to kill her.

This may be absolute nonsense, but I've been listening to the soundtrack on loop and can't help thinking about Ruth. The horny theatre kid, who's true inner feelings were only known by two people. Her, and her killer.

imma be real, i thought the chimera ant arc was trash until it wasn't. there was a lot of filler-like episodes. the buildup was long. the chimera ant concept was so dissimilar to anything before. but that was the only freaking arc where i shed actual tears. i cried. yeah, and i laughed and loved it so so much.
