What things give you ideas for drawings? I'm at the worst art block and I need to draw something for the dear life of me but I dont want it to be a simple doodle but if it's not a simple doodle it has to be a good idea but I have no ideas and I dont want to ask for suggestions bc then my mind wont be passionate about drawing the thing and I'll give up when I barely start

I’m sorry that it took me so long to get to answering this ask!!

Honestly, i’m a pretty big daydreamer when I let myself be, I like to create characters in my head and stories around them and vice versa, and i like to imagine how i might animate or make animatics of certain situations. But i’ve pretty much trained my brain to only trigger doing that when i’m listening to music, so that I don’t space off too bad outside of listening to music.

Pretty much, I primarily rely on music to inspire me nowadays, and there are some pros and cons to it, obvi, but yeah. I end up listening to a wide-ish range of music because of it, and thus end up with a diverse range of ideas. Because what i do is take songs, if they have lyrics then its even better, and make a basis of a character or a story out of that song’s lyrics. Music tells stories, let those stories inspire you to make you own. I have a handful of playlist just for different creative moods i want to be in, and they’ve taken a while to build. From hype music to story-rich music, to sad emotional music, to strictly battle-eventful music. Heck, i have made specific music playlists dedicated to sets of characters or a single story world. It’s all inspiring to me.

Spend some time building up a playlist of songs that inspire you for a single idea if you have to, spend that time thinking and worlding with the lyrics or the beats or the storys events. Don’t worry about getting it out onto paper just yet. Get a feel for what you want to draw. And don’t be afraid to do a couple small doodles of it first! Heck. Doodling out the idea first before doing the serious pieces is kind of an art rule if you want to seriously something out. Thumbnail scetches of scenes to quickly sketched out character designs that are static so you have all the details to plug into a dynamic pose. Some character of piece specific ideas might do you good to do some color pallete challenges, ect. Too!

honestly i actually have like… two seadwellers i never talked about because years ago i never bothered to flesh them out. I’ve also got kidcestors for The Gang that i love to bits and also have never talked about much, and i’d love to make more bc its just… so fun and customizable.

Anyway bold and foolish of you to make the mistake of asking this expecting me to not doodle & talk about eight individual fantrolls so here’s all of that cool information under a nifty little read more

please look at my good kids:

Ulyxes Romeda’s a violet blood and almost 8 sweeps old. This right here’s a sweet boy, he loves muscle theater and ancient battle history involving heroes that were probably fake but they were REALLY heroic and that’s!!! What he loves!!!!! He’s adventurous and positive, the kind of guy with an infectious happy attitude, people typically get along with Ulyxes and feel safe around him. He’s definitely not okay with the power structure on Alternia and WANTS to lead a revolution, he’s got the fire in him to change the way things are around him, but he’s dense, and not a big details kind of person so he’s not really gonna be a Leader anytime soon, but a bold hero in a blaze of glory in some way, probably absolutely.

This boi loves to rough house, he luv gettin into scraps with things BIGGER and STRONGER than him!! He’s so strong, he hasn’t found a big scary thing yet that he wasn’t able to toss. Good child. One of his hopes is to fight with Audrit to see which one of them is stronger, he holds Aud in high regard. Audrit thinks Ulyxes is really… fucking dumb, but the guy is nice and a great hand when you need one so, like, who’s he to judge.

His quirk is pretty uncreative, he “T4lks with gre4t 2e4l! =:D” replacing Z’s and A’s with 2’s and 4’s, and overusing emotes bc he’s an expressive boy.

His title is the Prince of Doom and his lusus is a bullfrog, a frog with a bullshark’s head and gills.

Calgia Atlais is either a violet blood or, if you have fun good times like I do and roll hard in your life, a fuschia blood and an heiress in line for the throne. She’s Ulyxes best friend and Audrit’s FLARP partner. Callie has a problem with being misunderstood in her intentions by people, the way she words things oftentimes denotes the wrong connotations. Maybe it’s because of her high social status, people just go into conversation with her expecting a superior and cold attitude that they just allow it to be their assumption of her without thinking any deeper into it. She gets frustrated easily by it, but she doesn’t have this problem with Ulyxes or Audrit though.

She’s got a heavy belief and investment in witchcraft and practices a sort of mix and match of wicca. Callie casts incantations and makes potions for the protection of her friends - especially Ulyxes with his rebellious attitude that’s dangerous to have - though whether her “spells” really DO anything is questionable. The results always vary, but she’s pretty sure she’s doing something good.

Arpegi particularly can’t stand Cal, because she’s got it in her head that Callie is trying to “steal” Ulyxes away from her - RP is convinced he’s supposed to be the Prince that saves her :Y - but the unfortunate thing is Callie has a huge flushcrush on Arpegi, and she really can’t seem to just tell her how she actually feels.

She “whisp3rs in the 14ngu4g3 0f th3 f0rg0tt3n c0v3n” by which I mean, the assigned asteroid numbers of Pluto, 134340.

Her title is Witch of Rage and her lusus - depending on what you subscribe to with fuchsias - is a clobster. a crab lobster with lots of claws that it fucking punches with.

Artmis “But my friends call me Arttie” Mazdak is my fucking hero and I love him so much. God. He’s 9 sweeps old and grew up on an island with a small community of other islanders of varying bloodcasts and he dreamed of being out at sea, exploring a world he literally knows nothing about. He’s really dorky, for someone so charismatic and seemingly sure of himself he’s got some shakey self esteem and suffers sometimes in putting real faith in himself. Arttie and Audrit are a lot alike in their code of conduct, if they aren’t anything alike in personality: he has deep and unfaltering loyalty to his friends, isn’t one to question someones close held beliefs, and will without a doubt go to any means or lay down his own life for the greater good. Eyes on the prize for the benefit of others. The Mazdak boys are all about truth, justice,,,, and zestiness…….

Arttie builds boats hoping to get off his boring ass island and go be a real adventurer, he knows everything there is to know about navigation and always seems to find the best route to take even when he’s lost as shit, though “best” doesn’t always mean “right”, he got himself stranded once in the middle of the sea, but he met his flushcrush that way so WORKED OUT FOR HIM :Y

Anyway Art’s quirk is sort of particular compared to everyone’s. Basically though, he’s “Not tryin to brag or nofin> but ain’t nobody as exshiptional at knowin directions as him> an he’d be happy to kelp if he can*” this boy loves nautical wordplay and has an accent that makes him sound stupid (hes not stupid).

Jesus christ I love Arttie, i dont care that trolls dont have families he’s audrit’s big fucking brother and they love each other so much and hes so proud of his liTTLE BRO. ARGH.

His title is Mage of Hope and his Alternian counterpart is the Awakened Stargate, a famous historical figure who helped make important progress with intergalactic travel and laid the foundation for ethical “debates”, aka philoseviscery AKA “if your opinion is majority voted as bullshit you die”. He was secretly a passionate revolutionist and used his high social status to liberate lowblooded prisoners to freedom, taking them and himself to an unknown galaxy via an advanced starship he built. a legend as a boy and a man.

Fionah Trebol is Artmis’ kismesis, she’s 8 sweeps and a very trim and proper lady. Her soul dedication is in being a Tutor of Etiquette, she’s got no sense of humor and finds everything about Arttie to be a personal offense to everything she stands for. Disgusting.

Fionah is a stickler for rules and regulation, she keeps a tight schedule that seems to make everything around her bend to her will and keep to her rhythm. Things cower before her unreadable aura, which she loves, but Artmis doesn’t, which she hates.

She’s a private person in her beliefs, but she has some pretty strong ones. Religeon is a touchy topic and it would be rude manners to discuss it so openly, is her stance on the matter. Nobody bothers.

A cool fact: she has a trick weapon in the form of the strife specibus “hairclipkind”, she has a clip for the band at the end of her braid that turns into an axehead, and she wails it around like a flying guillotine. When you need some tough love.

She “~speaks QUITE LOUDLY and with a GR& SENSE OF &UTHORITY~ even if it RE&LLY ISN’T NECESS&RY~”. So she basically emphasizes her sentences where she doesn’t need to and replaces capital A’s (or “and” sounds) with &, all punctuation with ~’s

Her title’s Bard of Breath and her Alternian counterpart is the Lyricist, damned to a lifetime locked away in a sky high prison because her hypnotic voice would draw seadwellers to land where marauders would then jump them.

Kertez “Kurtis” Romeda is also my favorite child??? Next to Artmis???? He’s also 9 sweeps and is just. A Moron. He’s sporty, kind of like a typical jock hangin out with THE BOYS. Ruff about his turf, likes to surf, is a jerk. Kurt is extremely nihilistic and kind of rude, he’s spoiled so he sees himself as being above everyone else, even people in his own caste, but he’s private about his superiority complex which is… not better, but I guess he at least keeps it to himself? It certainly shows but he doesn’t rub his high opinion on himself in the face of others, not actively anyway.

Kertez is the reason Arttie got out of a bad situation, when Art stranded himself Kurt ended up finding him and helped him back to shore (degrading him the whole way). He REALLY thinks Art is out of his fucking mind and also thinks the nautical puns are lame, but he’s got a big gay secret crush on him anyway the fucking idiot. He’s so enamoured, his type is thick and cheesy.Artmis has gotten all their friends to think Kertez’s name is Kurtis because he heard him wrong when they met, and Kertez just… never corrected him.

He’s “4 little le22 enthu2i42tic 4bout being here, if you*re hone2tly wondering.”

He’s an Heir of Doom and his Alternian counterpart is the Achillan Watchman, who was in charge of guarding the Lyricist specifically. He disagreed with the Empress and in conjunction with the Stargate, helped free the Lyricist and thousands of other prisoners at the expense of his own life and reputation. He took the fall for the Stargate so his work wouldnt be wiped from history due to the betrayal.

Etheus and Isyfus Appate are younger, they’re like 7.5 sweeps, and unlike their descendants they aren’t attached at the horn, but they did hatch from the same egg and regard each other as two halves of the same whole person. Etheus acts as the mind and Isyfus takes over matters of the heart. He’s also the eyes of the operation, because Etheus was born blind.

They use their psychic abilities to help people struggling emotionally and are much kinder than their counterparts. They both offer phenomenal advice to due with personal growth and finding your inner self. Etheus and Isyfus claim they can commune with the past lives of an individual and doing so is part of their schtick.

On their own, Etheus doesn’t like to interact with anyone. They speak almost primarily through or with their brother, so doing so on their own is difficult and as a result they don’t have any close friends outside of Isyfus. They’re not extremely confident operating as a single unit, very much like their descendant. Out of selfishness, really, they don’t tell their brother that their spacial awareness is well enough that they can actually “"see”“ just fine without him.

Isyfus actually gets really exhausted operating as his other’s caretaker, he’s kind of a downer when he’s on his own and doesn’t have it in him to really give himself emotionally to anyone when he’s finally got time to himself to recharge. He’ll take long naps, either to try and get some energy back or to escape his other for a bit. He loves them, he really does, but it’s trying.

Etheus “doesn’t lyke takyng anyythyng from theyr brother yt myght make hym xpset”, and Isyfus “Ys happx to extend the same kyndness bx beyng juust as couurteous.” However “They both lYke to share, jUst when Yt reallY coUnts.”

Their titles are Maid of Space (Etheus) and Sylph of Time (Isyfus) and their Alternian counterparts were the Banyshed Apostyles - enslaved clairvoyants that predicted the coming of a prophet adopted in trust by the Empress’ higher court, using that trust to perform an act of Ultimate Betrayal. Their prediction wasn’t appreciated, so they were abandoned like garbage, and later down the line it was assumed the prophet was the Watchman.

LAAAAASTLY is Megera Atlais who is like, the least fleshed out of these losers because I like Calgia more than her lmao. A lot of her info is subject to change i think, but she’s 9 sweeps and very open and loud about her opinions and thoughts, so immediately everybody knows what she’s about. I’m about to start working on a new print, so I thought I’d share my process on how I begin my larger pieces! this is by no means the only or definitive way to begin your artwork, this is simply the method I’ve devised for myself over the years, and is something that works for me :)

1. Brainstorming

ideas for finished pieces almost always begin in my sketchbook. sometimes they come from just aimless doodling, but other times I go in with a more dedicated gameplan. in this instance, I didn’t really have a concrete image in mind, so I started with brainstorming before I even began drawing. this is a method I learned in my first year of art school, and while I dont do it often, it’s a super useful thing to do for when you’re stuck. I like to make lists of things I want to include in a piece (like motifs, color palettes, etc.), whenever I’m unsure of where to start. from there, I start roughly playing around with compositions and orientations, trying to include as many things as I can from the list.

sometimes I make notes to myself in the margins of my thumbs. they’re usually clarifying notes/reminders, or critique/feedback I have for myself as I draw. be honest with yourself on what works and what doesn’t.

every artist has their own shorthand when it comes to thumbnails. mine are sometimes so unreadable that they only make sense to me. but thats okay! its how thumbnails should be. 

2. Thumbnail

once I’ve decided on a thumbnail I like, I scan it into my computer, blow it up to proper size, (in this case, 9′′x12′′), and make any adjustments as needed. though I try not to fiddle with it too much - that would defeat the purpose of having a thumbnail in the first place. the only changes I really made to this thumb was flipping it horizontally, because I wanted to include Ellie’s tattoo, and also have the composition better compliment TLOU1′s box art, which is the main inspiration for this piece.

3. Gather Reference

this step is super important! even if I don’t refer to them much in my initial sketch phases (steps 4-6), I like to get this step out of the way early on in the process, so I dont waste as much precious drawing time hunting down images. I make a reference moodboard in a separate photoshop document and keep it open in a window while I work. even though I’ve drawn Ellie before, which helps, I needed clear images of her new design for this piece. I also took an image of TLOU1′s box art, because I wanted to borrow that composition. and lastly I gathered a few closeup images of her tattoo (not pictured), and a few screens from TLOU2′s reveal trailer, because I want to use elements of the lighting, color, and scenery that were used there.

I sometimes find myself having to hunt down more references as I go - I may have to get images of specific objects or take pictures of my hands (reference your hands!!!), but for everything that I know I will need reference for in the beginning, I gather it all in this step.

4. Base Sketch

here is where I begin truly sketching. I’m still not using much reference here because I want to focus on capturing mood and gesture - in my experience, these things sometimes come together more expressively when unreferenced. I also fiddle around with cropping and anatomy. the goal is to sketch as accurately yet loosely as I can. this is something that comes with practice.

5. Add Background

because I struggle with backgrounds, this is where I usually start bringing in my reference. again, working loosely but accurately. I simply fill up the space with whatever shapes and objects feel right for the composition.

here is where I also began diverging from my original thumbnail a bit, but that’s okay - I think it’s important not to be too married to your thumbs or comps, because honestly, half the time, the changes you make during the process are better than the ideas you came up with to begin with. be critical: what works on a small scale doesn’t always work on a larger one. thumbnails are your guide, not your bible.

6. Final Comp

on a separate layer beneath my sketches, I fill in the canvas with a medium-toned gray, and roughly lay down my values with blacks and whites. figuring our my light source, darks, and lights early on in the process helps further my composition and make it stronger. this will also serve as my guide for when it comes time for painting. I save this copy of this document as a separate file, so I can keep referring to this original comp as I work.

from here, the real work begins! its time for hours and hours of podcasts and tea. I start getting into the nitty-gritty of refining my sketch and preparing it for painting. it may seem like a lot of steps for just prep work, but trust me, doing all this work beforehand can save you a world of frustration later down the road. happy drawing!

ok [cracks knuckles but unsuccessfully and just does an awkward hand stretch instead] here’s a crash course in What Is This Thing I Do

SHORT ANSWER: there are some ocs but while i basically know everyone in our lil group i dont take an official census of how many or who’s active etc. Re: joining, sure why not? and no there is not yet a St Johns and we’re kind of lacking in the east coast in general I’m afraid. We’re a loose unofficial conglomeration of people who met through a common hetalia project or two and so some of us make ocs - there’s kind of an unspoken rule that if an oc for a place already exists and the person is still active its polite to not do duplicates, but its not a hard/fast rule. It’s no fun to play favourites and start drama you know?

LONG ANSWER which is probably gonna get long so I’ll explain below the cut.

ONCE UPON A TIME i dunno if you guys all would remember this but ONCE UPON A TIME in 2008-9 the (English) Hetalia fandom was young and we were all really excited about this Thing that was pretty limited as far as I’m aware to Livejournal, which is how I found 

The I Am Matthewian Project (2009-2011 ish?)

you may have seen us around youtube or deviantart- basically its a hetalia fan project about Canada and his 13 provinces and territories (created by ctcsherry) and we did voice acting and stuff- I was the VA for Yukon and the most recent VA for Alberta and I did a lot of art for the project that i can no longer look at without cringing because HAHA what is anatomy. The project is currently on hiatus indefinitely and a lot of us have drifted our separate ways so I try to keep tabs on everyone where I can but I’m also Kinda Shy and don’t like prying or tracking people down all the time. Would I change some things about how the project was done or some of the dumb kid things I said or did or whatever? Yes. Do I regret the fun times, the art improvement, and the friends I made? Not on yer life bud.

Anyway the cities started as a roleplay thing and it’s kind of surprising since I’m really not a good roleplayer and I really don’t enjoy rping that my ocs, out of all of them that were made on those old boards, survived the longest. They’re nearly ten years old, man! But yeah, as far as I’m aware Ed and Cal are the only surviving OCs I created back in those early days- you can still see some of the old designs floating around dA but they were never really fleshed out and more just created as a little roleplay game between us that wasn’t really meant to go anywhere (although a couple of us, myself included, did sneak OCs into finished IAMP episodes).

Project Canada (2013-?)

So apparently people actually enjoyed and missed our lil videos so the project got rebooted. New admins, new fans, a couple of veterans from IAMP, that sort of thing. Same province and territory characters, new direction. Or… lack of direction idk xD; I loved being an admin for the project but we never really got off the ground because I think we rushed a little too fast and I ended up leaving my post for a variety of reasons. I’m making a go of it on my own now which is why I don’t speak for everyone who posts in the projectcanada cities tag (but lets be honest 90% of that tag is Me haha, I’m the annoyance that made the tag necessary in the first place)

The projectcanada cities tag is generally people who are or were members of this little group- we’re by no means an exclusive club and not all ocs were created /out/ of the project, I’m sure some people like me saw the opportunity to bring back some old ocs and revitalize them with a new audience and new people to brainstorm with- these might have been roleplay ocs or ocs doodled for fun or ocs that came together out of the fear that - like in the IAMP - we’d create ocs for the fun of it off stereotypes rather than putting a huge whack of thought into it, haha. (I admit though, for our own storytelling purposes quatsch and i got together to make a halifax oc thats not necessarily ‘canonical’ in the sense that we’re two angry albertans who haven’t ever been that far east, so if anyone would like to breathe some life into the design we’re happy to collaborate etc etc)

So yeah we’re not exclusive but we’re not organized either, which is why I’m hesitant to speak for everyone. I’m generally the most active so people generally come to me with questions and I can point them in the right direction, but I don’t really have any intention of making anything ~official~ looking of who’s around and who’s not because that would be a whole other boatload of work that I don’t wanna do and also I’m personally ok with interacting with whoever (so long as you don’t expect me to seriously roleplay because thats Not what I do and I’m no fun). And I mean if you’re interested in the project itself as far as I know there’s still room for more members, but idk when if ever anything is going to happen at this point.

My Personal Feels

Honestly since my ocs transcend both iamp and pc and are probably going to outlast both of them at this rate, it’s kind of weird that i haven’t gone back to tagging them as ‘aph’ rather than pc but eh i like my little spin-off-of-a-spin-off nook in the hetalia fandom. But yeah I’m not going to police the tag, aside from saying things could get Messy with duplicates both using the pc tag. So for example say you got a winnipeg oc that’s not affiliated with our lil group- thats a-ok! cool, if I like them enough i’d be willing to use them in my own stuff if i dont have a pc character for it if you’re ok with it and dont mind them interacting with this “universe”. I’d still probably tag your oc as ‘aph winnipeg’ or something if you dont have a specific tag for them. There’s not really an ‘expiry date’ on ocs or how long their creators have been away, but after about 5 years and a project reboot i tend to feel pretty Weird about using ocs when their ‘parents’ arent around to supervise, you know? but again that’s a personal hang up of mine. Another personal hang up of mine is I really am mostly interested in ocs created by people living in that place or really into researching it or who have good inside jokes because that’s the reason I really love this fandom, but hell it’s not a requirement (sweeps my multitude of alberta ocs under the rug because I haven’t been to most of them lol)

so yeah thats the long and the short of it, feel free to ask any more questions and I’ll do my best to answer. I don’t mean to brag when I say I’m probably the person to ask about these things, I just mean I’m nosy and I haunt this little corner like a plague so I’m more or less in touch with everyone in it. :) haha

Homestuck Liveblog #157

UPDATE 157: And There Was Oil Everywhere

Last time everyone alive had despaired for a while, then decided to start working to solve the disastrous situation they were in. Roxy went to meet her denizen, and John is going to try to get a grip on his retcon powers. Terezi...uh, guess she’s going to bleed to death. So let’s continue!

Since Terezi’s attempt to do something didn’t work – apparently not my fault, it wasn’t supposed to work yet -- she just...gives up and decides to lie down and die, so to say. It’s not a cheery thought, but she had enough of everything. At least John is determined to do something useful, and leaves Terezi behind. Good luck, John, everyone’ll need you to succeed. Otherwise this story is over, and I know there are like...a thousand pages left! It can’t end here.

Cut back to Jade and Calliope, still talking about what the other Calliope said. Cool, what is it? Jade’s tale starts in the land of Wind and Shade – John’s land, that’s where John’s death started.

A lot of credit to the artist who draws these images, really. So, the tragedy started shortly after the three-year journey began. She just was there, sitting around and minding her own business, when randomly John’s planet explodes. John and Davesprite perished.

Well that’s a bit of an anticlimactic tale. I thought it was going to be about John’s death, but we just started and John died! Like one minute into the story. Awful storytelling, Jade! Hah! Okay, let’s get serious for a second. Why’d the planet randomly explode? It’s true it had abundance of oil, and therefore it was flammable, but a lot of heat and oil would be needed for the whole planet to explode. Did something happen at the core of the planet?

JADE: i supposed it must have meant johns death was heroic... but i couldnt for the life of me imagine how

Huh, that is...something to wonder about, that’s for sure. A heroic death involving the planet exploding, hm...well, it isn’t confirmed the explosion and John’s death are related in any way. Heroic deaths have many ways to happen, it could be possible that John died saving Davesprite in some way, maybe from the explosion or from something else. There are many possibilities. Maybe the doomed Calliope does know and told Jade, and that’s going to come later.

...it’s very sad that she spent three whole years in mourning and without the company of her two friends. Ouch. But of course this isn’t what happened to the Jade I know. The Jade from the story isn’t the same Jade that was crushed by a building. Who knows, maybe John’s retcon powers have affected the timeline in unexpected ways, creating these events in a different timeline.

Three years passed, and as expected they weren’t fun years for Jade. One day, she fell asleep and dreamed the alternate Calliope.

Cool! Excellent art, seriously. I really like it. So they traded stories...and Calliope specifically mentions she killed her brother. Really? How did that happen? Please, tell it, Hussie, that’s something I have great interest to hear about! But for now John’s death is the focus of Homestuck, so of course Calliope’s tale is about that.

JADE: she went on to say that lowas was destroyed because johns denizen had suddenly woken up  JADE: typheus, a great monster of truly terrifying power  JADE: she said he had destroyed his land and slayed his own heir of breath not out of malice, but to make a slight correction 

Ah. That explains how the planet was destroyed. Denizens reside in the center of the planet, don’t they? Yeah, it makes sense. ‘A slight correction’ is a strange way to phrase the denizen’s reasons, though.

It seems the John from the Game Over timeline did reach an agreement with that Typheus, and the consequence of such bargain was for this John and Davesprite to die. Huh. That’s...certainly a consequence. I can only see one reason why that’d happen, though, and it’s if somehow the John from the Game Over timeline is meant to replace the John that just died. If so, that’d make the timeline from Calliope’s story be the new main timeline, wouldn’t it? I mean, bigger purpose and all, and I don’t think a timeline with two Johns would work. Yeah, this could be what’s going on.

...the difference between that doomed Calliope and the Calliope that lost to Caliborn seems to be that one never contacted humans. Ouch. Being less lonely – not by much, but less lonely nonetheless – may have changed Calliope’s tendencies towards an attempt to work with Caliborn instead of resisting and ultimately overcoming him. Welp. At least I don’t think Calliope would ever regret making friends with the humans.

So, about the deal, the two plots currently ongoing are fusing together, because now Jade seems to be telling how the John from the Game Over timeline achieved his deal with his denizen. Hopefully it won’t start here and then end in “and so he achieved a deal!” the next page! While Calliope continues dutifully drawing what Jade tells her to draw for the benefit of the invisible audience, she decides to take a pause.

JADE: hmm, maybe we should pause before i go on?  CALLIOPE: paUse??  JADE: like  JADE: some sort of intermission  JADE: so i can collect my thoughts a bit, and to give the audience a little breather between two significant arcs  JADE: we were at it for a pretty good while there, after all  CALLIOPE: what... aUdience?  JADE: well, that would be you in this case  JADE: ooh i know!  JADE: i can doodle a quick story about the antics of the silly consorts on the golden ship before moving on  CALLIOPE: >:U

Oooooh no. Please don’t. Heck, not even Calliope likes the idea! No intermissions, Jade, please! Let’s get this done as soon as possible, shall we? You don’t want to lose the momentum of the story! But nope, looks like it’s time for an intermission, featuring the consorts. Oh well.

I’m curious how you differentiated one consort from another enough to give them names, Jade. Animals don’t look too different from each other!

You seriously named one ‘yiffyiff’ with a straight face. Oh dear. Calliope lost her patience with this intermission, thankfully, and tells Jade to forget about the silly consorts and focus on the tale. Hah! Thank you so much, Calliope, knew I could count on you. Aaaaanyways, about the story. As said, John returned to his planet to attempt to strike a deal with his denizen, and hopefully save the situation. The personal quests each player has usually affect the planet in a way that solves whatever widescale problem it has. In John’s case, fireflies were trapped underneath the clouds. Given that John can use wind powers, it’d make sense for him to dispel the clouds with wind, right? Shouldn’t be too difficult for him now.

JADE: to free the fireflies john would have to play a special song JADE: it had to be played just right to summon the breeze through the pipes 

...nevermind! It isn’t as easy as I thought it’d be. In Homestuck, things are never as simple as they could be. The song mentioned there would be done through the pipes, but it was all clogged with oil. To do it, John’d need to confront Typheus. It’s said Typheus filled the pipes with oil, after all. John journeyed into the fortress of the denizen, this time hopefully not to be killed like a chump.

Hah! Calliope is having doubts about drawing Typheus, because it’s a big snake. Of course. Why does everyone in this story have to be a teenager, hahaha. How about you don’t draw Typheus, Callie, and just pretend he’s there? It isn’t like Hussie has ever drawn a denizen besides Yaldabaoth! Go ahead, take a page out of his book, because I’m sure Typheus won’t appear in the frame.

JADE: why dont i draw it?  CALLIOPE: very well.  CALLIOPE: bUt yoU mUst excUse me if i giggle.  JADE: ok but i dont see whats so indecent about a big old snake!  CALLIOPE: tee hee!  JADE: lol

Hussie, you totally made cherubs turn into astronomically large snakes at their mating phase just to do this. I swear I’m 100% you did it for this. Ouroboros or Auryn imagery? Pah! No, forget all that, those all were coincidences or second thoughts. The real reason was that Hussie wanted to make alien innuendo in-story, you can’t fool me, Hussie!

And indeed, Jade doodles Typheus and Calliope can’t avoid giggling like a flustered schoolgirl in a biology class about the reproductive system.

I stand corrected, Typheus is here and on-screen...kinda. Wasn’t it said at some point that Typheus was hideous? I suppose I should be glad these glitches and the lens flare exist. So, John arrived and made his request, immediately being given his options. Apparently at times like these, what option to choose is a no-brainer. It’s never said what the exact options are, but given that John is determined to learn how to use his retcon powers, I can imagine what they are.

Whatever John chose, it led to Typheus flooding the place with oil, a life-or-death situation. Either he made himself disappear, or he’d die...hm. Would that even count as a heroic death? There’s nothing heroic about drowning in oil, even if it was to save the timeline.

...oh. Jade is right, simply disappearing and saving himself that way wouldn’t help the planet. I hadn’t thought about that. A third option is needed, and what John decided to do...

...was make the oil disappear. Oh! Right. Honestly, I wouldn’t have thought about that on the first try. It seems obvious in hindsight. I have no idea how John managed to make all the oil disappear when he was having trouble making himself disappear, but eh. I’m not going to complain. John has made progress, and that’s what counts.

Oh! So that’s what all the oil everywhere was! I...I honestly stopped paying attention to the oil and the arms. But yeah, here’s the explanation of all that! Clever, John, dispersing all that oil through time and space. Does it mean he managed to clear the pipes? Wow, excellent! And now he’s able to play his instrument and complete the goal.

An organ? Good thing John has experience playing the piano! Pianos and organs aren’t the same thing, but if I’m not mistaken the principle is more or less the same, isn’t it? The flash file that has the music is...rather reminiscent of other songs I have heard before! I can’t pinpoint which ones, though. I know that harlequin song was in there, but I’m sure there are another two or three in this.

The wind was so strong it managed to push out the cartridge from the machine, clearing out the candy corn and the dust! John may have managed to remove all the glitches from the session! That’s very impressive! Here we go, points for quick thinking and for finally learning how to use these complicated retcon powers.

Seriously impressive! And the end result was far more than I expected. I knew John would manage to clear up the clouds, I mean, that seems to be a vital part in this all mess so it was likely he would, but I didn’t think he’d remove all glitches.

Without the clouds this is a seriously beautiful-looking planet. So what’s left to do now that he learned how to use his retcon powers? Meet with Roxy, I suppose. I wonder if we’ll see her side of the story, what she talked with Nyx. She must have had her own choice to do.

Now that the fireflies are free, John walks around the planet. All these places and moments I had forgotten, hm. There’s the village where John threw a flammable shaving cream bomb, and here’s the car that crashed down from high near the house. Along the way he finds Roxy. Guess talking to her is happening sooner than I thought it would!
