ok idk if this is just bc i’m a fitz stan but like that part when keefe went “and honestly, he hoped fitz would step up and become whoever and whatever she needed him to be” just made me so upset?? like i understand that at this point keefe and sophie are alot closer than keefe and fitz, but its like he doesn’t rlly care about fitz at all. he’s planning to permanently run away, and the only hope he has for fitz is that he can make sophie happy? like what ab fitz’s own happiness and own life-
It’s very interesting Nonsie, and it also makes a lot of sense when you look at Keefe’s character.
Okay, so as we can see throughout the series, Keefe cares very deeply for Sophie understatement much lol and is highly motivated to keep her safe. This post talks a little bit about that if you’re curious.
Yes, he’s concerned about the rest of his friends, and obviously doesn’t actively wish him any harm, but he doesn’t invest himself in them the way he does with Sophie. He’s evidently taking the “take care of my moonlark” thing the dead Forkle said very seriously, although I doubt that’s why. I think that was just an excuse he can use to be more open about caring for her, as instead of having to explain why he was so much more focused on Foster he could just say he was doing what Forkle told him you. Keefe you never do what people tell you to you need a better excuse honey
So when he said he wanted Fitz to be who Sophie needed him to be, he was putting her over Fitz, which makes sense. They’ve gradually fallen further and further apart throughout the series because they never fucking TALK to each other because they seem reluctant to have meaningful and progressive conversation with each other. Keefe’s tendancy to joke around can help him avoid feeling overwhelmed, but they also keep him from having the serious conversations he needs to and that would benefit him.
He doesn’t feel responsible for Fitz the way he does for Sophie, so I doubt he even realized what he said could have been negatively aimed towards Fitz, because he’s really focused on Foster Keefe my dude please get a social life outside Sophie like rn. Of course Fitz deserves to be happy and to pursue what interests him and to have a life of his own, and I’m sure Keefe agrees, he just hasn’t taken the time to think about it because for him, Sophie always comes first.
I think Keefe may be projecting how he sees himself and what he’s willing/wants to do onto Fitz. He literally said in Nightfall that he would be “whatever Sophie needed” (last page of the Keefe short story). And now that’s he’s left the Lost Cities he can’t be that person anymore, and he thinks Sophie needs that person, so he hopes Fitz can fill the role he saw for himself, however flawed that may be.
Damn I really said let’s over analyze Keefe again huh. As a hardcore member of the Fitz Vacker Defense Squad, I must say he (Fitz) is baby and that I love him very much. 🥺
