☁️Nothing to see here, just a cluster of Honduran white bats (Ectophylla alba)! 🦇This critter hides from foes by roosting beneath self-made tree tents that it builds by cutting a leaf along the midrib so that the sides fold down to create cover. When sunlight hits the foliage, it casts a green tinge on the bat’s white fur, allowing it to better blend in with its surroundings. Leaves with a waxy surface are preferred because they provide an added layer of waterproof protection. Mit einer durchschnittlichen Länge von 3,7 – 4,7 cm sind honduranische weiße Fledermäuse winzig für eine Fledermaus. Getreu ihrem Namen haben sie ein flauschiges weißes Fell. Ihre Ohren, Gesicht, Nase und Teile ihrer Beine und Flügel sind leuchtend orange. Auf ihren schwarzen Flügeln wachsen fast keine Haare. Da ihre Nase dreieckig aus ihrem Gesicht herausragt, nennen Wissenschaftler Mitglieder ihrer Familie „Blattnasenfledermäuse“. Ihr Schädel ist mit einer dünnen schwarzen Membran bedeckt, die den Fledermäusen Schutz vor UV-Strahlung bieten könnte – ein natürlicher Sonnenschutz!

I never posted that I finished this little critter. She came out so cute! And her wings really seem to cooperate with posing! It's just pipe cleaner that I crocheted around so I'm honestly so impressed that it worked so great! I am deeply attached and as she is the prototype anyways with some mistakes (like the wrong colored pipe cleaner) I will not be selling her. However, I will likely crochet another to see if anyone wants that one!
