Hello there!
July is a rainy month here in the mountains, but these fics felt like a ray of sunshine! I’m back with another favorites list, and very proud that I remembered to do this. Let’s go!
A Savior’s Guide to Manners and Decorum - E, 13k by @wolfpants
I think putting Draco Malfoy in any sort of teaching position is a recipe for perfection. So, that was a major factor in my enjoyment of this fic. Everything I’ve read from wolfpants has been incredible (I read Nightcall at least twice a month), and this did NOT disappoint. If you like a bumbling Harry with obscure hobbies, this is the fic for you.
Little Compton Street (One Rainy Night In Soho) - E, 65k by @writcraft and @celilasart for Harry/Draco Big Bang 2018
I saw this fic recommended left and right on the Drarry writers discord, and it’s been sitting in my marked for later forever. And, boy, do I wish I’d read it earlier. The art is BEAUTIFUL. I stared at it for about ten minutes. I’m a sucker for two lost souls finding their calm together in the eye of the storm, and I’ve been yearning for another fic that explores queer history as it pertains to the magical world. In conclusion, this was everything I needed. A rainy night for a rainy season.
Grounds For Divorce - E, 122k by @tepre
This is another one of those fics that I’ve seen recommended everywhere but just hadn’t gotten to yet. Fics that cover long periods of time hold a special place in my heart, and the journey I got to experience while reading this left me breathless by the time I was finished. I can’t wait to read it again.
Up The - E, 7k by @shiftylinguini
I’m not a big mpreg reader, not for any particular reason, but this fic was so sweet. The premise was hilarious and ridiculously fitting for these two. Love an established relationship, love a nutty plan to get pregnant. Loved it.
Faint Indirections - T, 29k by ignatiustrout
It’s so fun whenever I get to explore a new city with this pair. God, this was so fucking hilarious. Watching these two communicate in the least efficient way possible tickled me and I will be thinking about this fic for a very long time.
to be a bit of warmth (for you) - M, 9k by @softlystarstruck
This was just the sweetest thing I’ve read in a very long time. The intimacy, the characterization. How the author managed to pack so much beauty into 10k words is a mystery that I thank god for every day.
on open wounds - M, 16k by asofthaven
extremely loud growling noises (positive.) read this in my honda accord while eating a quesadilla and watching drunk rodeo goers mill about the town square and felt more emotions than i’ve ever felt before in my life. thank you. thank you thank you thank you.
Everybody Hates a Tourist - E, 51k by @wolfpants for @hd-wireless 2023
As I said before, I love getting to explore a city with these two, and watching Harry find himself with a Draco who has built a life for himself is something I will never get sick of. Especially when every bit of it is absolutely baffling for Harry. So excited to find out who wrote this. I enjoyed every second of it. (Should’ve known it was wolfpants! So, so good!)
Well, that’s all for now, folks! These fics helped with my July gloom, and I’m so thankful for all the wonderful writers in this community who gift us these beautiful stories.
See you next month with more recs!
xx, Moon.

Ko-fi prompt from @thisarenotarealblog:
There's a street near me that has eight car dealerships all on the same lot- i counted. it mystifies me that even one gets enough sales to keep going- but 8?? is there something you can tell me that demystifies this aspect of capitalism for me?
I had a few theories going in, but had to do some research. Here is my primary hypothesis, and then I'll run through what they mean and whether research agrees with me:
Sales make up only part of a dealership's income, so whether or not the dealership sells much is secondary to other factors.
Dealerships are put near each other for similar reasons to grouping clothing stores in a mall or restaurants on a single street.
Zoning laws impact where a car dealership can exist.
Let's start with how revenue works for a car dealership, as you mentioned 'that even one gets enough sales to keep going' is confusing. For this, I'm going to be using the Sharpsheets finance example, this NYU spreadsheet, and this Motor1 article.
This example notes that the profit margin (i.e. the percentage of revenue that comes out after paying all salaries, rent, supply, etc) for a car dealership is comparatively low, which is confirmed by the NYC sheet. The gross profit margin (that is to say, profits on the car sale before salaries, rent, taxes) is under 15% in both sources, which is significantly lower than, say, the 50% or so that one sees in apparel or cable tv.
Cars are expensive to purchase, and can't be sold for much more than you did purchase them. However, a low gross profit margin on an item that costs tens of thousands of dollars is still a hefty chunk of cash. 15% gross profit of a $20,000 car is still $3,000 profit. On top of that, the dealership will charge fees, sell warranties, and offer upgrades. They may also have paid deals to advertise or push certain brands of tire, maintenance fluids, and of course, banks that offer auto loans. So if a dealership sells one car a day, well, that's still several thousand dollars coming in, which is enough to pay the salaries of most of the employees. According to the Motor1 article, "the average gross profit per new vehicle sits at $6,244" in early 2022.
There is also a much less volatile, if also much smaller, source of revenue in attaching a repairs and checkup service to a dealership. If the location offers repairs (either under warranty or at a 'discounted' rate compared to a local, non-dealership mechanic), state inspections, and software updates, that's a recurring source of revenue from customers that aren't interested in purchasing a car more than once a decade.
This also all varies based on whether it's a brand location, used vs new, luxury vs standards, and so on.
I was mistaken as to how large a part of the revenue is the repairs and services section, but the income for a single dealership, on average, does work out math-wise. Hypothesis disproven, but we've learned something, and confirmed that income across the field does seem to be holding steady.
I'm going to handle the zoning and consolidation together, since they overlap:
Consolidation is a pretty easy one: this is a tactic called clustering. The expectation is that if you're going to, say, a Honda dealership to look at a midsize sedan, and there's a Nissan right next door, and a Ford across the street, and a Honda right around the corner, you might as well hit up the others to see if they have better deals. This tactic works for some businesses but not others. In the case of auto dealerships, the marketing advantage of clustering mixes with the restrictions of zoning laws.
Zoning laws vary by state, county, and township. Auto dealerships can generally only be opened on commercially zoned property.
I am going to use an area I have been to as an example/case study.
This pdf is a set of zoning regulations for Suffolk County, New York, published 2018, reviewing land use in the county during 2016. I'm going to paste in the map of the Town of Huntington, page 62, a region I worked in sporadically a few years ago, and know mostly for its mall and cutesy town center.

Those red sections are Commercially Zoned areas, and they largely follow some large stroads, most notably Jericho Turnpike (the horizontal line halfway down) and Walt Whitman Road (the vertical line on the left). The bulge where they intersect is Walt Whitman Mall, and the big red chunk in the bottom left is... mostly parking. That central strip, Jericho Turnpike, and its intersection with Walt Whitman... looks like this:
All those red spots are auto dealerships, one after another.
So zoning laws indicate that a dealership (and many other types of commercial properties) can only exist in that little red strip on the land use map, and dealerships take up a lot of space. Not only do they need places to put all of the cars they are selling, but they also need places to park all their customers and employees.
This is where we get into the issue of parking minimums. There is a recent video from Climate Town, with a guest spot by NotJustBikes. If you want to know more about this aspect of zoning law, I'd recommend watching this video and the one linked in the description.
Suffolk county does not have parking minimums. Those are decided on a town or village level. In this case, this means we are looking at the code set for the town of Huntington. (I was originally looking on the county level, and then cut the knot by just asking my real estate agent mom if she knew where I could find minimum parking regulations. She said to look up e360 by town, and lo and behold! There they are.)
(There is also this arcgis map, which shows that they are all within the C6 subset of commercial districting, the General Business District.)
Furniture or appliance store, machinery or new auto sales - 1 per 500 square feet of gross floor area
Used auto sales, boat sales, commercial nurseries selling at retail - 5 spaces for each use (to be specifically designated for customer parking) - Plus 1 for each 5,000 square feet of lot area
This is a bit odd, at first glance, as the requirements are actually much lower than that of other businesses, like drive-in restaurants (1 per 35 sqft) or department stores (1 per 200 sqft). I could not find confirmation on whether the 'gross floor area' of the dealership included only indoor spaces or also the parking lot space allotted to the objects for sale, but I think we can assume that any parking spaces used by merchandise do not qualify as part of the minimum. Some dealerships can have up to 20,000 gross sqft, so those would require 40 parking spaces reserved solely for customers and employees. Smaller dealerships would naturally need less. One dealership in this area is currently offering 65 cars of varying makes and models; some may be held inside the building, but most will be on the lot, and the number may go higher in other seasons. If we assume they need 30 parking spaces for customers and employees, and can have up to 70 cars in the lot itself, they are likely to have 100 parking spaces total.
That's a lot of parking.
Other businesses that require that kind of parking requirement are generally seeing much higher visitation. Consider this wider section of the map:
The other buildings with comparative parking are a grocery store (Lidl) and a post office (can get some pretty high visitation in the holiday season, but also just at random).
Compare them, then, to the "old town" section of the same town.
There are a handful of public parking areas nearby (lined in blue), whereas the bulk of the businesses are put together along this set of streets. While there is a lot of foot traffic and vehicle passage, which is appealing for almost any business, opening a car dealership in this area would require not only buying a building, but also the buildings surrounding it. You would need to bulldoze them for the necessary parking, which would be prohibitively expensive due to the cost of local real estate... and would probably get shot down in the application process by city planners and town councils and so on. Much easier to just buy land over in the strip where everyone's got giant parking lots and you can just add a few extra cramped lanes for the merchandise.
Car dealerships also tend to be very brightly lit, which hits a lot of NIMBY sore spots. It's much easier to go to sleep if you aren't right next to a glaring floodlight at a car dealership, so it's best if we just shove them all away from expensive residential, which means towards the loud stroads, which means... all along these two major roads/highways.
And if they're all limited to a narrow type of zoning already, they might as well take advantage of cluster marketing and just all set up shop near each other in hopes of stealing one of the other's customers.
As consumers, it's also better for us, because if we want to try out a few different cars from a few different brands, it's pretty easy to just go one building down to try out the Hyundai and see if it's better than a Chevy in the same price group.

Wait what's this about Casey, Marc and getting kicked out of honda
ah just a fun bit of old gossip. to clarify in case the phrasing in this post was confusing, we're talking about casey's role as a test rider with honda after his retirement, so 2013-15 (not casey's initial retirement from his honda ride, which was ofc entirely his own choice)
so! first of all! from the moment casey retired, everybody was going 'when will casey be back'. this wasn't based on anything casey was actually saying - it's just how people are about retirement announcements ig, the disbelief at how early casey retired, wanting to see him race again, refusing to believe he might actually properly be done. when the riders were asked about it in pressers, they usually gave very neutral 'sure that would be nice' responses. when casey was asked about it, he was generally pretty firm in going 'I'm not interested' and also 'stop asking'. but in 2015, dani made the decision to pause his season to get an operation for his recurring severe arm pump issues. he ended up missing three races, and inevitably people went, 'hey you know who would be fun to have back for a few races, you know who also happens to be familiar with the honda bike'
and this time casey WOULD have been up for it. except, according to him, SOMEONE didn't want him to race:
now fwiw, we have zero proof that this 'someone' was marc, although ofc that was something people speculated about at the time - the idea being that marc wouldn't have wanted to be undermined by casey outperforming him, especially in the context of a tricky start to the 2015 season. (funnily enough, the phrasing does echo the "somebody inside Yamaha didn't want me there" thing; a topic for another post but I'm pretty unconvinced valentino was involved in blocking casey's yamaha deal.) and... given this is the same interview where casey talks about his belief that marc forced him out of honda (which we'll get to)... I mean, he must have at least known it's a conclusion people would draw
marc was asked in pressers about casey racing as dani's replacement, and he basically stuck to 'it's not up to me'. some more casey quotes:
I like to think 'I would've won that' was one of casey's main takeaways from sepang 2015
anyway at the end of 2015, casey left honda to join ducati as a test rider. here is an excerpt from a piece about it at the time, saying marc had complained about casey's performance level as a test rider:
you'll note the HRC sources disagree with casey on how good casey's pace was; unfortunately we'll never really know either way. (in any case it's not particularly great form for sources to 'let slip' that your test rider's pace is poor, even if it was true, but there we are.) and ofc there's the assertion that marc felt 'threatened' by casey and/or didn't think casey's feedback was valuable. here's a screenshot of the piece from speedweek being referenced:
again, a lot of this is obviously hearsay. we don't really know how hard marc pushed to get rid of casey (if at all), and certainly not for what reasons - whether it was casey being too slow or the quality of his feedback or marc's ego or whatever else. we do know casey thinks marc wanted him out because marc felt threatened by him, as he's very helpfully said as much:
casey does make it clear he doesn't have any proof that marc (and his entourage) felt threatened by him, but, well. either way he did believe it. this story dropped in january 2016 btw, so at a time where press coverage of marc was not exactly at its friendliest anyway. marc hasn't really ever responded to these assertions afaik - but when casey ended up leaving ducati again at the end of 2018, he was pretty lukewarm about the idea of casey returning to honda:
here too there's nothing from marc's side to suggest any real antipathy, but of course we also don't know whether he's being honest about his reasons for preferring the distinctly unthreatening bradl. and finally, casey has more recently (aka start of this year, 2024) said that he left honda because they only listened to marc:
which is also obviously relevant now in the context of honda's long-term decline and marc's decision to leave (criticised in some quarters by those who feel marc is at least partly to blame for said decline)
anyway ofc this is all very he said she said, so who knows what really happened - but the fun bit is that nobody can quite agree! all a bit messy isn't it. it's very low stakes beef, kinda nice... but it does also fit in with casey's whole outlook towards the sport, where he often feels like he's being unfairly treated. and (this cannot be stressed enough) a lot of the time he was right, he was being unfairly treated, so it's absolutely possible some underhanded stuff was going on here too. believe what you will! who knows!
#yayy casey ask keep em coming#casey stoner#brr brr#//#also obviously it is a funny thing to have bubbling along at the end of 2015. winter sepang test lovely time#casey did take marc's side ofc with his 'valentino should have gotten the black flag' thing. but!! really more anti vale than pro marc#batsplat responds#//ht#//at

Call me old school but "modern" cars are way too overkill.
My car (a used 2010 Honda accord) was totalled and I'm currently renting a 2018 Ford edge from my insurance company while I find a new vehicle.
Now driving this thing feels like driving a damn spaceship or the DeLorean from Back to the Future. There's just so many damn buttons, dials, lights, and just fluff in the dash and center console it's straight up hard to drive. On closer inspection, at least 5 buttons control the light above the driver and passenger's head.

Like what is all this??? Why do we need this many buttons???
And the stick for changing gears? It's that little dial in the second photo. You swivel it to change whether you're in park, reverse, drive, etc. I feel like it's gonna just randomly pop into a different gear while I'm driving!
And why the touch screen?? We don't need a massive ipad embedded in the console! Touch screens are not safe to drive with! I almost got in another accident trying to turn down the AC because I have no tactile feedback in the controls!
By old car was built like this:

Most of those buttons were for the radio. Dials for the AC and how to direct it, and those dials clicked when you moved them so you could tell how far they'd moved. The stick shift clunked when you moved it so you could tell how many times it had been moved and you felt it lock into place. Only a couple buttons on the steering wheel, three for cruise control, three for the audio system. And even this was the most buttons I had to learn ever! I'd argue some of the 'features' in that car were kinda useless and needless to have and just took up space!
Maybe I'm just crotchety and old (I'm 24 lol) but we don't need all this shit in cars! It's straight up distracting and unnecessary. It's a car. It gets you from point A to point B. I don't think you'd ever catch my driving a car any newer than like 2014.
#cars#trucks#automobile#ford#honda#new cars are so fucking stupid#also a lot of them are just ugly#but thats besides the point#listen#technology is cool and we are experiencing evolution around us every day#but this aint it#also TAKE THE FUCKING LEDS OUT OF HEADLIGHTS I SWEAR TO GOD#THEYRE SO BRIGHT YOU CANT FUCKING SEE ANYTHING

Post 0639
Joseph Jacob Franco, Florida inmate Q70765, born 1991, incarceration intake in February 2020 at age 28, released August 2022, post prison supervision ends August 2027
Vehicular Negligent Homicide, Reckless Driving resulting in Bodily Injury, Distribution of Nitrous Oxide, Obstructing Investigation
A driver who fatally ran over a man and injured the man's wife and children as they walked on a Sunny Isles Beach sidewalk was sent to prison. The July 1, 2018 crash that killed 34-year-old Amir Pelleg. Pelleg was walking with his wife and daughters, ages 6 and 2, near the 17400 block of Collins Avenue when the Honda Odyssey minivan driven by Franco veered off the road and struck the family before hitting a wall according to the initial police report.
Pelleg died at the scene while his wife was in a coma after the crash. Both children suffered broken bones.
Joseph Franco, 28, pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide in the 2018 death of Amir Pelleg as part of a plea deal. The plea, agreed to by the victim’s family, sentenced Franco to three years in state prison followed by five years of probation and a no-drive order.
At the time of the accident, Franco was seen throwing away canisters of nitrous oxide in a nearby garbage can, and had been charged with DUI manslaughter and three counts each of driving under the influence. All of the DUI-related charges were dropped, but Franco also pleaded guilty to possession with the intent to sell nitrous oxide and tampering with physical evidence.
"While there were initially allegations that Joseph was huffing nitrous oxide at the time of the accident, these allegations were proven to be untrue," defense attorney Robert Reiff said.
If Franco violates his plea agreement after he completes his prison sentence he could face up to 40 years in prison.

Okay, I have a small challenge(?) for you, since you’re a Dani Pedrosa fan. I’ve watched a lot of interviews and press conferences with him, but since Dani is kind of shy and/or private, it’s hard to pinpoint certain personality traits, like I know him but not really.
So, could you describe Dani Pedrosa to me as the person he is? What traits and small things have you noticed about him? Both good or bad traits please!
Thank you!
Hi anon 👋👋👋 I'll do my best because I don't know him personally and I can only talk about what he has done or act in interviews.
Dani is indeed shy and private and that made him look bad towards media. Or at least it used to be a problem when he was young. I remember so media tittles and it just implied Dani was at war with all the journalist as he preferred to be elsewhere except there. I think he has said it in the past, but Dani would have loved to race when media and media training was not a thing because he hate it so much. It takes a while for him to warm up and talk, but a way to do it is start talking about bikes and then his on track and out of the track experiences will follow.
We all have seen Dani as someone serious, but apparently he is a prankster. No one was safe at Honda when he was Marc's teammate. And according to Marc, when they where at Japan... well havoc happen. Apparently once Dani ended up on someone else shoulders dancing and singing shitless (Valencia Pres conference 2018).
He seems to be a bit obsessive in the sense he needs to know everything surrounding the bike. There's no need for him to go to the factory, but he is there a lot, he talks with the riders and "coaches" them. And his job description doesn't include that. He is passionate. A lot, and that makes him a good pundit because he explains stuff in way that everyone can comprehend. Another pundit (a mechanic/technic) sad that it was probably because Dani had to ask himself all those questions and get the answer on his own. So basically Dani loves to learn. returning to the coaching, it's not just about KTM riders, or now that he is retired. Apparently in 2018, Maverick complained that the Yamaha was not working and Dani, who has never rider a Yamaha (or a non-Honda at that point) suggested some modifications to a rival. Apparently it was what he needed because Maverick went to win the next race.
He is not kind to himself. He heard his own stats and gets down because he is no a MotoGP World Championship. I think that Dani sees himself still as a kid fighting against his idols/top riders without realizing that he is now a legend and his the idol of other riders. (Marc and Álex M (especially Álex) are open about Dani being his idols. Also Ana has him as an idol!). Don't get me wrong, he is proud of what he has done and accomplished, but when you see his numbers compared to Vale, Marc, Jorge or Casey, he feels like he did nothing.
He never will see a bad thing about anyone. I'm serious even with all the Puig-Honda stuff that has gone on, Dani still talks about Puig and how he is the reason he is there. That without Puig he would had never done it-. The worst think I heard him said about Honda is 'a serious of bad decision made them be there'. And lets be a honest this is not a bad thing. He could drag them through the mud, but he is a gentlemen.
He is also a fighter, and not just on track. He has always had to fight with the bike and his body and also with Honda because he was not always listened.
And the worst thing, which also could be seen as good one, it's actually something he picked from Puig. Apparently people around Dani said that he would come to you, ask the questions and once he got the answer, h will leave. Some times even leave you with the words on the mouth. Apparently it's because they are hands on the job and are not in the mood to do small talk when it's not time for it. I think people mentioned it got better, but that definitely didn't help with his unapproachable aura he had back then.
He also seems to have a terrible memory when is not properly on track stuff or not something that blow out of proportion. Recently (December 2022) an interview wit Dani and Jorge (and other ex-riders) was realized and Jorge was the one who knew about all the intricacies and little details about them, while Dani was 'I don't remember you/me was there' which was funny because it's your husband enemies to lover friends slow burn.
And that is all I can think about at the moment. I hope this helps you/you were after

Honda is recalling more than 2.5 million vehicles over potentially faulty fuel pumps. In documents posted on the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration's website, Honda said affected models include 2018 through 2020 editions of some of its most popular vehicles, including Accords, Civics and CR-Vs. The recall also includes several popular models from Honda's luxury division, Acura — like the MDX and RDX sport-utility vehicles, and the TLX and ILX sedans. The fuel pump inside the fuel tank may fail, Honda said, leading to stalled engines and increasing the risk of a crash.

A Comprehensive Overview of Off-road Vehicle Market Landscape
The global off-road vehicle market size is expected to reach USD 32.94 billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of 5.3% from 2023 to 2030, according to a new report by Grand View Research, Inc.The market is experiencing substantial growth owing to the factors, such as growing consumer interest in outdoor recreational activities since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, increasing focus of government agencies to enhance tourism-related activities, and rising popularity & availability of off-road vehicles, such as All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs), Utility Terrain Vehicles (UTVs), and snowmobiles, at local stores in the majority of the countries. Moreover, the increasing focus of manufacturers to develop battery-powered vehicles that require low maintenance costs, and rising consumer preference for electric mobility options are anticipated to drive the market growth over the forecast period.
However, the high upfront total cost of ownership remains one of the challenging factors limiting the market growth to some extent. The growing concern regarding the substantial rise in carbon emissions and Greenhouse Gases (GHG) has enabled various government officials to initiate necessary policies regarding Electric Vehicles (EVs). For instance, in Finland, a refund of up to 35% is provided by the government to the companies that install EV charging stations, and housing organizations that provide charging facilities for private utilization. Subjected to such initiatives, the country is witnessing considerable growth in sales of EVs including off-road vehicles. Moreover, the increasing consumer preference for EVs that travel longer distances while requiring low maintenance is poised to engage OEMs in developing & broadening their electric or battery-powered vehicle portfolio thereby, creating several growth opportunities for the stakeholders over the forecast period.

What is acceptable mileage for used car?

Acceptable mileage for used car indicates the number of miles on the odometer, which will still be adequate in relation to good annual mileage. For example, suppose the car is 5 years old with a total mileage of 50,000 miles. In that case, it indicates 10,000 annually, which means a balanced correlation, as 10,000 and less annual mileage is considered ideal for used automobiles. Odometer data is fairly one of the top priorities for any potential buyer of a second-hand automobile. We say one among other factors because of factors such as maintenance history, age, brand and model, and driving habits/condition. Considering all the factors combined can help in making an informed decision. Hence, you will save time and money in the future. Below, we will discuss the vital role of mileage data, how much is reasonable, which brand is the most reliable, the effect of the data on resale value, and which is more prioritized at the end of the day: age or mileage.
What does acceptable mileage for used car refer to?
Acceptable mileage for used car refers to the number of miles on the odometer that corresponds to the car’s age, general condition, annual mileage, and components’ wear and tear. It represents a crucial indicator of the car’s reliability and resale value in the long run. The fact that odometer data seems “normal “for you as a buyer doesn’t mean that you should unquestioningly accept that it is genuine and reflects the real condition of the vehicle. Additionally, it’s interesting that average or reasonable mileage differs not only among car brands and models but also among age groups of the same manufacturers. Older models of some manufacturers can cover much more miles on average than newer ones or vice versa. According to Carvertical research, the correlation between average kilometers covered and vehicle age groups by brands:
Manufactured in 2008:
Bmw – 225, 437
Audi – 221, 452
Opel – 171, 959
Volkswagen -204, 790
Manufactured in 2018:
Bmw – 76, 736
Audi – 95, 449
Opel – 115, 688
Volkswagen -108, 032
Besides manufacturing years, the overall age of the automobile is also an important factor. In the upcoming paragraph, we will discuss how much it matters.

What matters more in a car: age or mileage?
It would be a mistake to consider one of them more important than the other. Both matter, depending on the context in which we are discussing their significance. Let’s discuss situations independently when one matters more than the other:
If the automobile is well-maintained but aged, High mileage data is not the reason for frustration. Moreover, it may outlast the car with low mileage and not well-maintained.
When we are talking about reliable brands, such as Toyota and Honda, Acceptable mileage for used car can be much higher than in other brands.
Odometer data is the reason for worry if driven miles accumulate mostly in city drives. In urban driving, the automobile components such as brakes and pedals experience more wear and tear compared to the automobile, which accumulates miles mainly on the highway.
Mileage is decisive if you are seeking finance, such as an auto loan. Banks and financial organizations prioritize odometer data more than age.
Age comes into play when we are talking about some components. Unfortunately, other factors cannot outweigh the age when seals, hoses, and belts deteriorates through time.
It’s unequivocal that aged automobiles cannot provide you with advanced features that make modern life easier for modern drivers. Those features are blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, collision awareness, lane Assist, modern fuel efficiency systems, and cameras.
Surely, this is not the complete list of situations when one outweighs the other or vice versa. The list claims that we can’t claim that one factor totally outweighs the other; it depends on the individual situation, which matters most and which matters less.
Which automobile brands are the most reliable, even with high mileage?
Among the most reliable car brands, we meet different Toyota models everywhere: at the top, in the middle, and at the end of the ranking. According to the Iseecars statistical ranking, we can seek reliability in 20 models even if they can cover a lot of miles over their lifespan. Here we can provide 10 top-ranking models:
Toyota Sequoia 296,509
Toyota Land Cruiser 280,236
Chevrolet Suburban 265,732
Toyota Tundra 256,022
GMC Yukon XL 252,360
Toyota Prius 250,601
Chevrolet Tahoe 250,338
Honda Ridgeline 248,669
Toyota Avalon 245,710
Toyota Highlander Hybrid 244,994

How can maintenance records help with assessing the real value of a used auto?
Maintenance records are an integral part of service records that play a decisive role in evaluating the automobile. Well-organized and well-documented records will benefit you by selling your used auto at the best possible price. The primary reason why those records are significant for potential buyers is the signal that the owner takes good care of the auto and feels responsible toward the possession. Those record include the following information:
Vehicle Information (Make, model, year, and VIN)
License plate number
Current mileage (at the time of each service)
Oil changes, tire rotations,
Repair Information (e.x, brake repairs)
Component replacement (battery replacement,
Type of fluids used
Oil changes
Tire rotations
Surely, the maintenance record is not the single determiner of resale value; it’s just one of the most important factors, along with brand/model reliability, fuel efficiency, mileage, and wear and tear. In the following paragraph, we will discuss mileage as one of the common factors buyers consider and what is considered acceptable mileage for used car.

Consider resale value: how does mileage impact resale value?
Mileage greatly influences the value of the vehicle. This happens mostly because people pay attention to the odometer figures when making a final decision. Odometer data is certainly important, but sometimes, people overrate the importance of this data while underrating other factors. However, it is justified; It is natural that buyers tend to pay more when they see that it is acceptable mileage for used car. Depreciation is an inevitable process. Simply explained, it is the difference between the price you pay when you buy a car and the money you get from reselling it. Brand, wear and tear, age, and service history all influence the depreciation rate. However, mileage data let us even calculate this rate in exact numbers. Let’s use the CarEdge depreciation calculator and try to calculate randomly based on a one-year-old Mercedes C class. For example, its current price is $37400, and its annual miles are 12,000; after 5 years, it will depreciate 50%, which means its value will be $22,609. Mercedes C class depreciates very fast, particularly in the first 7 years. This model is really reliable and lasts longer, so consider yourself lucky if you find that model at a reasonable price and well-maintained. Odometer data is only worthwhile when it is genuine. Unfortunately, the problem of incorrect data is quite widespread nowadays. The reason is that it is clocked to appear less than it is.
How to tell if the odometer has been tampered with?
The following signs are alerting possible odometer fraud:
Physical signs such as incomplete numbers, flickering, and errors in the case of digital odometers, the trace of tampering around the instrument cluster, and uneven digits in the case of mechanical odometers.
Mileage discrepancies in the vehicle history report;
Inconsistencies in maintenance records, such as sudden increase/decrease of mileage through time;
There is excessive wear and tear on the pedals, seats, steering wheel, and tires compared to the claimed mileage;
A professional diagnostic tool detects discrepancies between stored data on the odometer and other control units.
These signs are all alerting. Wrongdoers also know about them, so they use increasingly sophisticated methods and tools to stay undetectable and display acceptable mileage for used car . The point is that they use completely legal devices for those deceitful purposes. One of the most advanced tools for halting mileage recording is the Mileage blocker.
Mileage blocker
Mileage blocker is a sophisticated tool produced in Germany with quality components. It can unconditionally stop mileage recording in all control units. The main advantage of the module compared is an untraceable effect. The information is not stored in any control unit and even with diagnostic testers, it’s impossible to trace the mileage that was stopped. At Super Kilometer Filter, quality is a top priority; that’s why the team devotes a lot of time to R&D to make sure that customers won’t encounter any issues. Can Bus is a complex system and many third-party tools cause unforeseen flaws, while Mileage Blocker performs flawlessly without causing any trouble to the speedometer and odometer? The tool’s use and installation are easy. The module is available on the Super Kilometer Filter shop for almost any maker and model. The customer and support team are always ready to answer all your questions. Usage is legal in most countries unless it is used for deceitful purposes. It is also allowed for testing purposes in a controlled environment.
Takeaway
Acceptable mileage for used car is a main priority for most buyers who seek reliable and long-lasting second-hand automobiles. However, it’s also a good idea to take all other factors into consideration. Combining various approaches and criteria will lead you to make a smart decision at the end of the day. Invest time and effort in a process to enjoy the final outcome.
