“You’re telling me this guy is Freezer’s brother and that he abducted Trunks? He literally took my son into his spaceship and left Earth with him?” she asks. “It appears so,” Piccolo adds and steps closer. “Most of the fighting that happened seems to have served as a distraction. We were scattered and each paying attention to our own fights. Thus, he was able to injure Gohan and Vegeta, who are the strongest fighters among us. Then he took Trunks.” “And you let his horned clowns toy with you!” Vegeta hisses in Gohan’s direction, looking ready to attack anyone he considers at fault. “You let that Cooler get away too!” Gohan argues back. “Didn’t you say you had this fight covered? Besides, none of us were ready for an attack!” “You sure aren’t ready for any kind of attack, look at you! You’ve gotten weak!” Bulma can see that this accusation stings. Gohan’s hair rises dangerously. “And you were ready? Is that why you were fighting in your underwear?!” “SHUT UP!” Bulma shouts before the two can go full Saiyan and fight this out with their fists. She can already see Vegeta getting ready to explode. Her satisfaction about both of them obeying is fleeting considering the circumstances. “Can you pull yourself together and focus on the actual matter at hand? You know, the fact that Trunks was abducted by a freakish alien who’s probably out for revenge because we wiped out his family?” “Sorry.” At least Gohan had the decency to look contrite. Vegeta is still visibly seething. “Focus on it, how? Do you have a plan? I don’t suppose you have a spaceship at the ready?” Bulma flashes her teeth. “I do.” Every head turns to her. Shrugging, she points at workshop #4. “I worked on it during downtime to relax. It’s based on the Namekian spaceship we used to get to Namek, and on Goku’s. It’s been done for over a year, actually. Since then I’ve mostly tinkered with the details.” The look Vegeta gives her is something Bulma will come back to at a later point, when Trunks is home safely and they’re both alone in their bedroom. “I can get it ready for launch within 20 hours.

The Wales Family in 2023 ♛

So, coronations are less fun than I thought they'd be. Despite that, the coronation gave me some incredibly fun moments, from the Wales family volunteering together to the walkabout on The Mall, from seeing various royal families interacting (including besties Kate and Felipe!) to seeing the Princess of Wales on coronation day itself! In fact, we saw a lot of royal family interaction this year - William and Catherine travelled to Jordan for the wedding of Crown Prince Hussein to Rajwa al Saif, they hosted both the Crown Princely couple of Norway and the Crown Princess couple of Sweden at Windsor Castle, and long-time best buds Catherine and Felipe reunited at the Wimbledon Gentleman's Finals. Sport was another highlight of the year, with the Wales family attending rugby matches (x, x, x), tennis tournaments (x, x, x) and even appearing on a sporting podcast! Both William and Catherine gained several military positions during the year (x, x, x) and have had a go at driving armoured tanks. As well as working with their patronages, William and Catherine have been able to support their own interests. William has continued to promote the Earthshot Prize, and also started Homewards, an anti-homelessness initiative. Catherine, meanwhile, launched the next phase of her early years work with Shaping Us. And in a twist expected by no one, the Princess of Wales finally debuted the Strathmore Rose Tiara. On a personal level, William and Catherine gained a new nephew - little Inigo Middleton - as James and Alizee Middleton welcomed their first child. Next year, I am asking anyone who is listening for a week-long tour (or two!) because they have been sorely lacking this year! If not, I'd love to see William and Catherine continue to flourish in their new roles as Prince and Princess of Wales.

HoB - what are your thoughts on William’s project? I don’t think it’s lived up to the hype or needed all the over the top promotion it was given before the launch. The Royal Foundation is essentially donating money to existing organizations. Surely they may trial a few different things to address root cause of homelessness but he’s not bringing anything fundamentally new to frame this as “his life’s work”.

It feels like it’s a vehicle in the same way Harry’s court cases and public whingefests are to him - an opportunity to lay claim to being the true son of Diana but to do so publicly in a way that’s “organic”. She really did not need to be cast as centrally to this campaign as she has been imho.

And his talking points reinforce the pitfall of hiring a US PR guru who is going to promote you like a reality TV starlet. When William stands up and says “homelessness shouldn’t exist in a modern, progressive society”, the immediate clapback from Republicans or detractors will be “well neither should monarchy”. That line may sound good if you’re a Kardashian but not so much if you’re a Royal & future Monarch.

What’s your thoughts? Did it live up to the hype for you?

After thinking about this for a few weeks, it has to be one of the most overhyped projects I've ever seen in my life.

Seriously.

The nuts & bolts of Homewards is perfectly fine--getting existing organizations to work together for a common goal. However, there was too much PR in the rollout about "ending homelessness." Sure, it's a great goal to have. Yet, five years from now, homelessness may not even be ended in the communities where Homewards is running and probably won't be.

If homelessness isn't significantly curtailed or ended by 2028 in those areas, the UK press is going to hop on that note and label it a "failure." A "failure" because the described end goal from the get-go was "ending homelessness," not working together to build a better process for charities and people dealing with homelessness. William talked about "ending homelessness" multiple times in the Homewards campaign rollout.

At least with the Earthshot Prize award scheme, I can understand having a PR campaign that overhypes the reach and scope of the project. With Earthshot, they need to build awareness on global scale, so that they can have enough people, projects, and communities willing enough to submit and participate in the process.

No such need exists with Homewards because the organizations already exist within their communities in the UK.

In the still, crystal-laden forest of Nivoria, where the trees whispered ancient secrets and the moon shone with an otherworldly glow, there existed a realm untouched by human dreams. Here, the feline inhabitants were not mere creatures of the wild; they were the guardians of the night, the keepers of the celestial pathways that webbed the heavens above.

On a night when the stars seemed to dance with particular vigor, and the moon was full and vibrant, a grand sleigh, carved from the oldest oak of the whispering forest and bound with chains of starlight, came to a gentle halt on a snow-laden clearing. Within this sleigh sat two extraordinary cats, donned in garments spun from the dusk sky itself. The larger of the two, Captain Whiskerous, wore a coat of deep navy adorned with buttons that shimmered like distant suns. His companion, young Lieutenant Purrnelius, was swaddled in a red cap and mittens, the color of the dying light of day.

Captain Whiskerous was a legend among the Nivorian felines, known for steering his sleigh across the night skies, riding the invisible currents that flowed between worlds. Lieutenant Purrnelius, his loyal apprentice, was learning the secrets of the celestial tides, aspiring to one day navigate the cosmos as adeptly as his mentor.

This night was special, for it was the Eve of the Glistening Whiskers, a celestial event that occurred but once every millennium, when the moon's light held the magic to open pathways to other dimensions. The Captain's mission was of utmost importance – to traverse these pathways and collect the stardust needed to maintain the balance of their enchanted forest.

As the two felines prepared to embark on their nocturnal odyssey, the Captain turned to his apprentice with eyes that held the sparkle of the universe. "Remember, Purrnelius, the sky is a vast ocean, and the moon our guiding lighthouse. Trust in her glow, and she will lead us through the darkest of nights."

With a nod of determination, Purrnelius took his place beside the Captain. The sleigh, sensing the intent of its passengers, began to quiver with anticipation. Captain Whiskerous, with a flick of his majestic tail, signaled the sleigh forward, and they launched into the air, leaving behind trails of shimmering light.

The sleigh soared higher, and the forest diminished below them, becoming but a whisper of shadows and silver. They rode the wind's breath, passing through veils of frost and clouds that sparkled like diamonds, until they reached the edge of Nivoria's atmosphere.

Here, the night opened up to them, revealing a tapestry of swirling galaxies and nebulas that bloomed like cosmic flowers. The Captain steered them towards a vortex of light, a gateway that hummed with the echoes of otherworldly chants.

As they entered the vortex, the sleigh was enveloped in a cyclone of colors that no earthly creature had ever seen. Purrnelius felt the raw energy of creation coursing around them, and for a moment, he feared they would be lost in the boundless unknown. But Captain Whiskerous held the reins steady, his gaze fixed on the beacon of the moon, which now glowed with an ethereal fire.

They emerged on the other side of the vortex, in a realm where the laws of physics bowed to the whims of imagination. Here, the stardust they sought drifted lazily, like snowflakes in a serene winter dawn. With deft movements, the Captain and his apprentice collected the stardust, filling their sleigh with the luminescent essence.

As the first light of dawn began to pierce the horizon of Nivoria, Captain Whiskerous turned the sleigh homeward. They had completed their quest just in time, preserving the enchantment of their home for another millennium.

And so, the legend of Captain Whiskerous and Lieutenant Purrnelius grew, a tale whispered by the trees and sung by the stars, of two brave felines sailing a moonlit sleigh through the heavens, forever etched in the annals of Nivoria's scintillating history.
