To me vrissys romantic relationships with tavvy and harry are the most “set up to fail” pairing(s) ever, it’s always felt as a very vrisssy sided affair to complete her quadrants in a compulsion to propagate old cultural systems of control (as everyone else has). It might be a more gracious reading than is intended, but the tenuous incestous element being a part of it makes sense looking at what the purposes of the quadrants are in the first place. These systems were put in place to felicitate abuse, and incest IS abuse. I’m not interested in wether or not it’s something that should be included in the story, I think it’s a potentially very interesting jumping off point for when the omega kids start intermingling with the other aliens. I bet the deltrians are going to have their own methods of oppressive social control, and could cause the omega kids question to their own bias (in the same way vriska does with John) though that would all require some acknowledgment that their whole dynamic is *questionable*. But if there was ever a moment to confront it, it’ll probably be then
it's not just to do with quadrants it's to do with systems in general. this is always the exact direction sburb was headed in! like okay imagine we get the happy ending, we create the new universe and everyone files away into neat little heterosexual pairs; you get to be with my sibling and i get to be with yours -- AND THEN WHAT? hey kids: you'd best prepare to hook up with your cousins for the sake of the human race's future!
we're talking about a world that exists within a black hole eternally eating and perpetuating itself. this is what homestuck 2 is ABOUT: the original characters' kids being all incestuously entangled with each other like this is a NECESSARY BIPRODUCT of alliope's plan to keep the original homestuck alive by sequestering it away in a little bubble where it can keep going on forever and ever and ever. digging up old grandpappy homestuck's body just to worship at its feet is itself an act of incest, and freeing these kids from their institutionalised suburban little fantasy lives is a necessary part of freeing the story itself from the shackles of nostalgia for its own past

strider dynamics
this hussie shit is hard lol i see a lot of fanart in modern day homestuck fandom that try to emulate hussie’s old style (problem sleuty and whistles etc stuff as well) with his line weight and construction ala @meatmanuel and @deacblues and @toreodere and they got it nailed and i REALLY want to try that too
the funny thing is i could emulate his later homestuck lineless style really well for act omega
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
but it doesnt have the same charm as old huss and im a bit out of my depth here. its hard but doesnt seem impossible just like a learning curve..i probably could get better with study and practice

That new Homestuck 2 update is pretty alright. It feels like Act 6 Homestuck, I was skipping everything Meenah said and only read the last sentence of everything Karkat said... I feel immense joy every single time I get to skip Karkat's wordy dialogue... so it was all very cool. (Hoping they return to Act 4)
Well, cool in the sense that all this "marriage story" -ass boring family adult stuff is reaching a head. "But that's who these characters are. They are shitty adults now, you can't complain" Yeah, yeah, YEAH... Snoozeville! I'm not 35, so this cuck stuff is mondo-boring...
Uh, but positives! The plot is moving. I like that the story is continuing. I want to follow these characters. Well, I want to follow Vriska and the Omega kids. All these adult characters should lose their faces, and begin to speak in "Hussie narration." That's a compliment, because it would mean they all get to talk like Jack Noir.
The art is nice. It's better looking than Act 6 Homestuck, but not as stylish as early Homestuck, but I'm glad they're trying to look dynamic. If I was less experienced I might have been impressed.
Oh god, this is just one big backhanded compliment. Uh... good job Beyond Canon team, you could be infinitely more crueler and capitalist given you've chosen to treat HS2 like a Marvel Comic.
(Imagine a paragraph that includes very boyish squealing, praising, and excitement since I can't seem to type that...)

I have another comment to make.
What’s so funny about Beyond Canon ending act 1 is 2-fold.
We’re at page 756. At this point, Homestuck was already on ACT 3. Imagine being that outpaced by a webcomic one and a half decades older than you.
And also what was the payoff? This entire work was an elaborate scheme to make Vriska turn into an adult sprite and get the omega kids to the portal into the meat timeline.
We took 3 times as long to get the new kids to stop being useless and start the new big game.
They really could have ended sooner or said Act 1 was done way after James Roach and HICU took over, but they didn't. Those dumbasses had to pad it out and claim they """"respect'""" the previous work. However, James Roach himself admits that Andrew Hussie made Epilogues and Homestuck 2 out of spite to shit on the fans and he himself had believed in the philosophy. If James Roach claims to have changed and wants to make up to show he genuinely cares for fans, then he shouldn't had built on top of the mess Hussie made. He should have thrown everything in the trash and do a hard reset reboot. But I guess James Roach is too much of an asskisser to his old boss.

Mr. Tambourine Man Update Notificator
No, you read that title right. This is an Update Notifier, not the ACTUAL MSPFA itself (because the actual MSPFA itself is offsite), with over 200 favourites. That’s pretty impressive. And that’s why I’m not actually going to be looking at the Notifier itself, but the actual star of the show, MR. TAMBOURINE MAN. If there was a BDTH notifier I’m sure it would similarly also make me able to talk about Burning Down The House, but ALAS, there is no such thing. I’ll probably talk about Burning Down The House later after I finish with this journey I’m on, since there *are* MSPFAs out there that I want to talk about that I KNOW haven’t been covered by the “200 favourites” rule. But that’s later. For now, let’s take a look at Mr. Tambo and Urine Man I mean Mr. Tambourine Man.
I don’t know why people feel nostalgia for the old MSPA site layout. I bring this up because this is just one of several times that the old MSPA layout has been used. Probably, again, to bring legitimacy for this being a “continuation” of the original work. But also, the MSPA site layout…kinda sucks? The fact that news is always on the bottom and can’t be hidden from view unlike in MSPFA’s site design is a big miss for me. My eyes keep wanting to go off of that and onto the logs or other parts of the page, and it means that I can’t really focus on the action, and that’s something that you don’t want. It makes me less engaged, less willing to slip into the world of the comic, when I keep getting distracted by the ads at the bottom telling me about Hoodies for sale that’s not EVEN AN ACTUAL AD. Again, Delivery Mechanisms are just as important, if not more so, than the actual text that they are delivering to the reader.
OHHHHH. Good thing I checked, apparently this webcomic was made not in 2020, but in 2016? Which explains why it feels like an Act Omega or Act 8 more than a HS^2-based continuation. It makes sense that 2016 would be the time it first started upd8ing, and then in 2020 is only when the notifier is added to MSPFA, well, continuations are back in the zeitgeist, as they will continue to be for as long as the fandom response to Homestuck is “Man this sucks” (regardless of whether or not Homestuck actually DOES suck). Or, rather, “Homestuck is not living up to my expectations, I wish there was a BETTER Homestuck that DID confirm my expectations of it as a work and a piece of media.” That sentence is a bit of a mess that I just typed but whatever.
But yeah the thing about Homestuck^2 Continuations is that people want to see the suffering of the characters END, and 2016 Act 7-based continuations is that people want to see the suffering of the characters CONTINUE. Because like, that’s what’s going on here. “I want more content from Homestuck” versus “I want Homestuck to provide closure.” It’s interesting that these two impulses kind of live side by side with each other, and often times came from that same impulse of feeling unsatisfied with the direction of a work, and yet take such different forms and priorities. Which I guess is the entire point of the epilogues now that I’m thinking about it? This dicotemachy of “I want to see the characters continue their adventures” versus “I want to see the characters no longer have conflict” is literally just. Meat and Candy. Straight up Meat or Candy. Which continuation style do YOU want to see done? More story, or less story and more character moments? I think I’m having a slight mini freakout over how Homestuck saw this happen all the way back in 2016. AH! And because MSPFA wasn’t even a thing as we know it today (2017 I believe was the first year of the new site), that’s why Mr. Tambourine Man isn’t on there to begin with. I’ve cracked it wide open I tell you! Hahahaha!
Getting back to the website differences between this hosting site and MSPFA…I am slightly feeling the lack of arrow key movement functionality. Like, the command system is really cool in terms of titling pages and stuff like that and I know I’ll probably write up what I think about all that jazz in the future but…having to click to advance to every single panel kind of changes my relationship to it? I kind of have to be. Deliberate. Move my mouse over to the command, internalize the command, click on it, read the page, click to the next panel. It makes several panels of slow movement in a row different, that’s for sure. Less Flipbooky, I guess is a way to describe. Idk if I’m making sense, but these are my thoughts currently going through my head reading this.
Okay hang on. Now I’m beginning to remember why using another site might actually be benefictal to a storyteller. That being, of course, that you can transform the site into a machine, an actual legitimate bonified game that can interact with the audience and make them WORK for the next stage in the story. And make strange trickery happen. Like suddenly making the “go back” button go back to a different scene or something. All this to say that I’m not 100% prepared for reading the rest of Mr. Tambourine Man but I will say. That I *am* invested, and I *am* curious to see where this might lead me. So I guess for now, go check it out, but be aware that it might not be all that it seems? I’m getting that vibe right now.

it feels like they're trying to build hype, but they're blowing the proverbeal load too quickly, so absolutely nothing carries weight. the new troll/new species who knows being the biggest example of this, considering that we have the omega kids and even the influencers already, and barely anything has been done with them. yet they still skip their vegetables and skip right to ice cream.
Yeah, like, it feels too early to have a "end of act" fake out, even though I guess it's been years, and it kind of jumped around too fast
I guess if they had the option, that probably would've been a whole [s] a la og homestuck, but the way the pages get told it's too confusing

Do you consider the epilogues non canon like most people
dunno. theyre one image into the post-endgame, one of several. i havent read any mspfas that explore the post-endgame YET but i have them written down (stuff like homeslice, burning down the house, act 7, acr omega i believe all explore the same narrative zone as the epilogues)
so for now, the epilogues and hs2 are my only reference point for "what happens after". but i dont think it matters whether or not its "canon". its all fiction anyway.
what makes the epilogues and hs2 unique among all explorations into the post-endgame is that the original author(s) stand behind them. they created it. and as such, it can be considered "official".
so, i guess i DONT consider it canon. but i do consider it official, and as such, its "closer" to the original homestuck than any fanfic. more closely linked. hope that helps.
i rejected it at first, but the idea that the epilogues and hs2 put forth, the idea that i can make anything i want canon using my imagination, is pretty powerful, and funny because it basically inspires fan/foe fiction with no necessity to stick to the facts as presented by even homestuck1. you can just make anything up and write it. so lets go
