Identity Thief

I don't know who I am anymore.

This last year completely remade me. After a year of change, challenge, confidence building, character setting, and development, I'm back at the exact place I found myself about a year ago.

Home wasn't a house, or a home, or a family, or a comfort--home was a place that left me in crumbles and that I was more than happy to leave; to never look back.

It’s not “home’s�� fault. It’s not anyone’s “fault”. Frankly, it’s not anyone else’s problem but my own. I’ve been here before, I worked up from here before on my own, and I fell on my own again. I don't need anyone else to share in my pain; I would rather not be that vulnerable in front of anyone anyways.

I just don't know what to do. Back where I was, I was me. I became this completely new person and I loved who I was. Home was something that I missed, if only, for it’s familiarity and idealization in my mind as I slowly forgot the reasons I left. When I had breaks to come home for a few weeks, my amnesia cleared and the reasons why I had left hit me like a brick wall of devastation every single time. I didn't want to be back here. I guess, even now, I don't really HAVE to be. I have just come to realize that most of my issues lie less in the actual place, and more in the decisions I was making. That being said, it is rather dull here. The majority of the population is undesirable for many reasons, and the location is rather unsociable. Everyone is either always trying to get out, or wondering why they never left as they continue to get sucked into the black hole that is this small town.

As far as decisions, I mean more like how I'm living my life and the company that I choose to keep. So far, I feel like my life has amounted to nothing of importance so far. I'm so focused on wanting to make a difference, one small “starfish thrown back to see” isn't going to be enough to satisfy me. I thought the military would be somewhere where I could find my true purpose and to really make a difference; however, obviously that wasn't the path set out for me. I have this “deal”, so to speak, with God--the universe, my life, whomever--that I will always give one-hundred percent into everything that I pursue, and if it doesn't work out then it wasn't meant to be. I can accept a shut door under those circumstances, but not because I didn't try hard enough. So here I am. I'm grateful to be home with my family while we go through a bit of a slow crisis. Death is something we cant run away from though, it’s bound to happen.

What do I do from here? Where do I go? How do I stop people’s perceptions of me from being who I was, rather than the person I am now. Is the difference between those two people really all that different? What do I want now?

All of these questions and battles in my mind. As much as I want to continue to hide under the covers until light pours in with a voice of God to direct me to what I should be doing--strange how the “voice of God” sounds much like an old drill sergeant that I used to have--but I need to get up, dust myself off from being pushed down again, and make moves.

Here I come! Whoever I am.
