I finally started posting my short original comic, Home in the Woods!

Home in the Woods is a short comic, just breaking double digits, but it's important to me as it helped me to process some recent rough life experiences. If you decide to read (and thank you so much if you do!), be warned that the comic contains the following CWs: Guns, blood, mild body horror, and violence against children.

After chopping all his fingers off "to see what would happen"

After punching a random grandma "because I can"

After electorcuting himself because he wondered if the bathtub and toaster thing was true.

After stabbing Logan for simply standing too close to him. "Because he's going to hurt you"

After stepping into traffic because they said it would "be fun"

This, however, is very different from his impulsive thoughts.

Like buying a 900$ lego set.

Deciding to say fuck it and just... leaving.. school. Completely walking out on his class of 25 students because his brain thought it would be more fun to go take a nap.

Deciding to take puppins out on a walk at 3 am or eating an entire bag of chips.

This of course is different from when he simply forgets about stuff

Like accidently standing up Vanessa on their date

Forgetting to pay the electric bill

Forgetting to take out puppins so she has no choice but to pee on the kitchen floor and then whine at Al for forgiveness when she slips in it

When he forgets that he needs to eat and its been 16 hours since hes even drank anything

These are all very different. And should be treated so.

yk when someone dies and you just have to... sit with it.. and you're like... how do i tell people something is wrong. how do i tell people who never met them or knew them or spoke to them that something happened. and it feels selfish somehow to even talk about it out loud but at the same time for some reason you feel like you have to. like somehow you're telling a lie or being disrespectful or being self-indulgent. when the reality is that you just don't want to be alone in grief. but they didn't know them and even after saying something, you're alone anyway.

pls share your ocd Bruce thoughts. as in your thoughts about Bruce having ocd. Pls and tanks

[big warning for intrusive thoughts, compulsions, paranoia. i do list specific ocd thoughts in this post. please be careful and don't read if those might affect you in any negative way.]

his compulsions mostly lie around keeping his family safe. he spends a while each night after patrol doing a perimeter check and ensuring all the security is online/working (one night he accidentally fell asleep in the cave and didn't wake up until morning - alfred woke up startled to see bruce checking his pulse because you fell asleep without checking and now he's dead he's dead and it's your fault).

he struggles a lot with intrusive thoughts; they're quite difficult to combat because he knows they aren't real but also a fair few of them are based on things that have happened to him in the past so he's more than aware that they're still possible (e.g. your son is dead somewhere, go find him; your friend has turned evil, check you have your defence against them and get ready to use it). he often just gets incredibly graphic images in his head, and he digs his nails into his skin until it goes away.

another thought he struggles a lot with is 'this person is an imposter. they are wearing someone else's face. this is not the person you know'. this is one that he definitively knows isn't true but also it's happened before so it can happen again. it makes him feel a little silly whenever this happens, because his way around it is to find somebody he does trust in that moment and stay near them whilst keeping a subtle eye on the 'imposter', and it makes him feel like a little kid hiding behind his mother's legs at a gala all over again.

there are some positives though!! he's not too sure why but these paranoid thoughts aren't often in regards to j'onn, so occasionally he'll request for j'onn to scan someone's mind to check if they are who they say they are, and j'onn does it with no questions asked. j'onn doesn't fully understand why bruce needs him to do this but he does recognise the spike in anxiety just before bruce asks and the relief bruce feels after, and so he does it because he knows it helps his friend, even if he doesn't know why.

(sometimes, when it's just him and the 'imposter' in the room, he just leaves. he doesn't explain. he doesn't say goodbye. he just leaves. he tells himself that it's to ensure his own safety. he ignores the way it feels like fleeing.)

he has a lot of little compulsions too, like rapping his knuckles against a specific part of the wall before using the zeta tube (if he doesn't, the transport will rip them apart). whenever somebody questions it, he says it's for luck. this leads to the team believing batman to be incredibly superstitious. the only people that know the truth are dick, jason, tim and alfred. eventually he does tell clark and diana, and he stops trying to hide it around the rest of the batfamily, but he does not like people knowing about it.

Can we talk about how talented Jihyun is? Everyone talks about Jumin and Saeran being talented, but this man somehow managed to drive with reckless abandon, keep up with and stalk Zen, all while trying to take pictures with his professional camera? Fast and the Furious who??

She's a ghost, right? How did she die? Also, is she haunting the aunt or the hospital? (I think aunt)

This is interesting. We still have a property that is managed by the aunt that hasn't been exorcised yet so is that where this is going?

Can't say this is making me trust the aunt any more, although she's been so comically self-centered that she's probably a red herring. Or maybe that's what they want us to think?

so normally on high holy days there are cops outside my temple with their car's lights flashing, both to direct traffic and also send the message of: do not try and shoot any jews here, there are cops and they will shoot you. but this year? nothing. very weird. nobody helping us across the street. turns out there was a cop inside, with his lights off, and wearing a yellow safety vest so he doesn't even look like a cop.

halfway thru the service I get this vision of a shooter coming in and shooting us. the cantor announced she's pregnant at the start of the service, and I imagined the shooter killing her specifically. most of the time, with intrusive thoughts, they're so ridiculous they're easy to dispel and get rid of (for me, I am very lucky). but this time, the threat felt so real it took much longer to get rid of. there's a lot of jews in here and no warning signs outside. it's a very scary thought to have that I could be the next national tragedy. and if not me, my parents, or my clergy, or my friends, or my community. luckily I did get it to go away... but yeah... didn't like that.

Hello, I am going to discuss my thoughts on content/trigger warnings as someone living with OCD. I am absolutely open to good faith engagement and discussion on this topic.

Having some thoughts on the idea that adding trigger warnings somehow ultimately harms the person with the trigger. They absolutely can create an easy tool to obsessively control your access to the topics/to avoid them, but I’ve always felt it should be the potentially triggered person’s decision on what they were ready to do about it. Uncontrolled exposure is just as capable of causing obsession as is avoidance, in my opinion.

I think of the (terrible telephone retelling of a) case I heard about while discovering recounts of actual lived experiences with OCD.

—The following example discusses intrusive thoughts about domestic violence.—

A woman had an obsession with being was afraid of hitting her boyfriend. Her compulsion was that she would have to hold her arms stiffly by her side. She recognized this as OCD and sought exposure response prevention. Her therapist told her to try and ignore the compulsion, or potentially do the opposite. The woman became so obsessed with healing she forced herself to keep her hands away from her sides (almost obsessively) and constantly checked whether or not she “still wanted to hit him.” In the end, the ERP just became entangled with her obsessions.

It takes so much strength to face these types of problems and practice the mindfulness and grace with yourself to recognize it. It’s something you really need to be ready for because it’s going to take a lot of effort to do the hard thing when the easy thing is right there.

How can we claim it’s best to “force” exposure on someone else? How can we go around vigilante therapising people we have deemed too ill to do it on their own (or just be left alone)?

This is not to say that anyone is bad if they can’t or don’t want to tag things. More just my thoughts about how pushback against that idea can swing too hard into trying to prove not tagging was morality correct.

In the spirit of bodily autonomy, I think we all deserve agency in our lives no matter how “incompetent” other people may think we are. When you’re ready, you’re ready. There’s no healing to be had sitting around thinking you’re broken or lazy or whatever for not being ready to change. We all owe each other the kindness to do what we can in good faith, too.

I started doing too much table setting in the tags, so I’ll put it under a read more, lol.

I recognize that this isn’t very radically (in the abolition vs reform sense) anti-psychiatry, and I do have a complicated relationship with that idea. I recognize that I have a good deal of privilege (particularly among people with more stigmatized/less understood “disorders”) but this framework is the only one I’ve ever been able to access that gives me any insight into myself at all. That isn’t something everyone can afford to do in several senses.

As a physically disabled person, I just connect my experiences with chronic illness and mental illness (which I think can fall under the umbrella of chronic on its own) more and more these days. What truly was the difference between not being able to do something out of pain versus anxiety? Our brains are organs, too. Our thoughts are chemical and hormonal, too.

One of the fondest memories I have of coming to terms with disability was explaining my experience with an autoimmune condition to a bipolar friend, and he replied that we were “chronic illness buddies.” And I felt so understood as someone who has suffered with various types of anxieties for their entire waking life.

It’s both him being goofy but also in his way he’s assuring Manon because she needs the reminder that he’s there AND this isn’t the only thing, Dorian always texts her in the morning and at night (he looks up the time difference and is always precise) so really, despite the distance he’s always there telling Manon that he’s still around and not going anywhere.
