I have 2 chickens recovering from some serious over plucking. One already is nicely scabbed up and is acting like she's ready to go back to the flock. The other I just found this evening and is in serious condition. I'm hoping she doesn't go into shock in the night.

The bully in question is currently jailed in the old brooder cage. Other than separating her from the flock for a week and reintroducing her on her own later, is there any other option for keeping cannibalism from happening?

I don't want to cull my birds unless I've exhausted every other option.

I'm not a fan of getting a rooster since these girls are laying for consumption.

I have added some new toys to the run, but they don't seem interested in them.

Advice is encouraged and greatly appreciated.

okay, small work rant because man i'm frustrated.

so, i work on a small farm (think produce, not animals) and we have two bosses (one for the physical stuff and one for more paperwork and people stuff) and only two people working full time under them (me and another person).

i have chronic illness that my bosses are very kind in letting me take sick days when i need and actively tell me to go home when i look a little under weather to them. the other person has been taking more days off then me. i understood at the start of their internship that getting used to a labor intensive job like this is hard because i also had to go through that last year when i started. BUT we only have a month left, plus the 6 student workers that would help out on the farm has been reduced to 3 and they can only work 2 or 3 days a week and only until noon (so like 4 hrs). thankfully, some days we also have part time workers that stayed on after the summer, but it's not guaranteed they will be there since most of them are still doing classes at college.

so, this means that some days, it's only me and my two bosses. this past week we've dealt with this full time intern pulling no-shows. i haven't seen them once this week and apparently one of our part time workers says he hasn't seen her car all week (all three of us live on campus less then 5 mins from work).

i've been so desperate for a sick day, but i never know if that will leave the farm without workers for the day. there's only 3 days where i feel comfortable taking sick days anyway since 2 days out of the week we're harvesting for csa (community supported agriculture, kinda like a prepaid market thing), pin (people in need), and a couple other food banks. taking one person from the team can make it very difficult for the rest of us.

The amount of times I have had a thought to send to my sister and remembered she will never get it 😭

#kee speaks #we went to the funeral home yesterday and it felt so surreal #mom shared the note my sister left with me and my brother so we know what her mindset was like and her reasoning #but it hurts that she never voiced it to us when we could've reassured her #she parked her truck in one of our farming fields behind a row of thick bushes so the truck wasn't visible from the road #you wouldn't know a truck could make it there unless you've been in that field before like we have #but it's right next to a dammed lake and that's where my brother in law proposed to her and only four days before their wedding anniversary #and then he was the one who found her #none of my family made it over there to be there with him #my dad tried but he blew the engine on his truck just a few miles from the farm; not even a quarter of the way to the field #i think that was a sign that he shouldn't have been there #but my brother in laws family all made it over there so he had his immediate family with him and my family was together at the farm #when the cops were done talking to him over there him and his family came to the farm #from Friday afternoon until Sunday night it was just a continuous parade of people coming and going from the farm #even yesterday evening a bunch of people stopped by #i don't think i have ever received so many hugs in a 72 hour period before #we've definitely deduced that my parents church will not be big enough for everyone if all that showed up at the farm plus more will be ther #we picked a day almost two weeks away for the funeral so that people can make arrangements to come #im so exhausted though #i keep crying over things that feel stupid to cry over #like she was the one who convinced me to read the Murderbot Diaries and the next book comes out in the next couple months #i wont get to talk to her about it #i was going to lend her my PS5 so she could play Jedi Survivor #on Saturday i kept crying over a pin that has been sitting on my mug shelf in the cupboard that was meant for her #i convinced myself to wait until Christmas and put it in her stocking #and now I feel bad that i didnt give it to her when i bought it cause maybe it would've brought her some joy

so proud of myself for putting a big part of my last paycheck in my savings like an adult but now im gonna spend all my savings like an idiot 😵‍💫

#i mean i am paying cash for my first vehicle which is like...adulting pro level but....at what cost (the price) 😭#also its a very cheap rusty old car tbh but i need a truck for the farm basically #so even tho i could keep driving my dad's car to work since he works from home it makes sense #especially bc its three people sharing that car with me and my brother #and my little brother is a full time student w no job so im the full time employed one so i should be the one to get a car #but i was determined to not take out a loan so its not a super nice car #but i'm buying it from a friend of my mom at a steal basically #like who sells a decent working car for 1500 anymore #but thats literally my entire savings so.... 😬#no car payment tho which will be nice but aaaaaaaaa #and im worried its kind of a junky car and will need tons of repaira all the time and not be reliable #but my commute is really short and i never drive anywhere besides work which is good for an unreliable car #im not convinced its a great investment to put all my savings into an unreliable vehicle but my parents told me its a good investment so #😬👍#adulting yayyyyy #i am getting paid this friday tho so my savings wont be so alarmingly empty for long #but i have other big expenses so im stressed #however it is a nice christmassy red pickup truck which is good for a christmas tree farm #but last payday i was like why do i have so little money in my savings thats dumb and not very grown up im gonna put as much as i can spare #then a week later withdrew almost all of it for the car 🤡#possibly a stupid decision #but maybe a great one idk #and it saves my parents having to buy a trailer for my mom's car for farm stuff so they're gifting me $300 towards it #and it will be satisfying to buy it outright and have no debt on it #but oof it hurts so much to make big purchases #i've never spent this much money except on tuition #i dont know that its specially unreliable i just know its got rust and duct tape and they're selling it bc they'd rather have a car payment #bc they put more money into it than its worth #but its got new tires and brakes and passed inspection somehow with the rust sooo? maybe its not as bad as it looks 😂

I think his opinion would be “meh.” It is cute and there is some collecting involved but it’s all pixels, farms aren’t interesting to him, and the dating aspect Killer explained made him roll his eyelight. He doesn’t need or want a virtual spouse.
