My (recently wealthy) older sister and her husband bought some land and got ducks and they have this big plan to grow crops and sell produce and she keeps talking about "homesteading" 🤢 and since she lives in an overwhelmingly white community it's unlikely any of her farm friends are gonna call it out, so I keep meaning to like. Look up some books to gift her for xmas that offer better terminology and an At Minimum Less Colonial perspective and introduction to the concept of a voluntary land tax/land acknowledgement before she gets into this stuff too deep and starts making money off it (bc I know she won't take it on my authority) and I keep forgetting to google resources. So this is both an accountability post for me to not forget to do this but also a request for recommendations if any of y'all have some tyyyyy

I think it partly comes down to the issue of what "fixing" and "saving" mean, and who is attempting those things. There are two scenarios I usually see getting conflated in this conversation.
"I could fix him" as an individual effort, often in a romantic setting.
This is an idea usually doomed to fail in real life, because that's not how people heal from trauma or deconstruct their own toxic behaviors. In fiction it can be interesting to explore, but ultimately it's a fantasy. In day to day existence, carrying that mentality into relationships is a huge risk factor for abuse, or at least a massive strain on one person who is trying to change another person who may or may not even WANT to change.
Versus:
"Under the right circumstances, he could see another way, and then choose to operate differently."
In this case we're taking a character, providing them with real connections and motivations to change, and exploring what it would look like for them to CHOOSE to live differently. This actually reflects the conditions under which real people make real changes in their lives: with community support, mental health resources, and importantly, a decision on that person's part to try and live in a way that honors the life they want to have.
I think a true redemption arc can't really be summed up by the first scenario. You, by yourself, absolutely cannot be expected to fix or save a person, especially a person who doesn't want to change. But we, as a community, can absolutely help create a world where people who have engaged in toxic behaviors have every chance to receive the help they typically need, and to develop a healthier relationship with themselves and the world we share together.
Not every chance to hurt someone. Not free passes to do whatever and just be forgiven, point blank. But somewhere they can go, people (not necessarily the people they've harmed) who treat them with kindness and see them as still human, a world that understands the distinction between "this person caused harm and that needs to be addressed," and "this person is permanently tainted by their sins and should be shunned and punished by society forever."
"redemption arcs are toxic, you shouldn't try to fix someone!"
actually it is so important to me that being in community and experiencing human connection can save people. thanks
#fiction thoughts#redemption arcs#do not individually try to “fix him” but recognize that people can choose to change under the right circumstances#“don't try this at home kids” energy#if someone is cruel to you or others please remove yourself from the situation if possible#but we will see more people choosing to live in harmony if we actually (as a society) give them the resources and encouragement to do so#alex rambles

Unpopular opinion: anything that can be made with 3d printers could be made better and cheaper some other way. Most of the things created with home 3D printers are time-intensive, expensive pieces of plastic that don't do anything.
#Home 3d printers are really energy inefficient#They also lower the air quality in your home without proper ventilation#PLA filament in itself is supposedly biodegradable but there's so much plastic packaging that comes with everything you buy#Also the machines just break all the time for seemingly no reason#And on a personal note‚ I think printed layers look like shit. Resin or powder printers look marginally better.#Spray fill and sand your 3d printed pieces until you've got no fingerprints left if you want.#You can't do that with tiny or intricate pieces#I'm sick of pretending it's not a waste of time money and resources.

I found an extremely dope disability survival guide for those who are homebound, bedbound, in need of disability accommodations, or would otherwise like resources for how to manage your life as a disabled person. (Link is safe)
It has some great articles and resources and while written by people with ME/CFS, it keeps all disabilities in mind. A lot of it is specific to the USA but even if you're from somewhere else, there are many guides that can still help you. Some really good ones are:
How to live a great disabled life- A guide full of resources to make your life easier and probably the best place to start (including links to some of the below resources). Everything from applying for good quality affordable housing to getting free transportation, affordable medication, how to get enough food stamps, how to get a free phone that doesn't suck, how to find housemates and caregivers, how to be homebound, support groups and Facebook pages (including for specific illnesses), how to help with social change from home, and so many more.
Turning a "no" into a "yes"- A guide on what to say when denied for disability aid/accommodations of many types, particularly over the phone. "Never take no for an answer over the phone. If you have not been turned down in writing, you have not been turned down. Period."
How to be poor in America- A very expansive and helpful guide including things from a directory to find your nearest food bank to resources for getting free home modifications, how to get cheap or free eye and dental care, extremely cheap internet, and financial assistance with vet bills
How to be homebound- This is pretty helpful even if you're not homebound. It includes guides on how to save spoons, getting free and low cost transportation, disability resources in your area, home meals, how to have fun/keep busy while in bed, and a severe bedbound activity master list which includes a link to an audio version of the list on Soundcloud
Master List of Disability Accommodation Letters For Housing- Guides on how to request accommodations and housing as well as your rights, laws, and prewritten sample letters to help you get whatever you need. Includes information on how to request additional bedrooms, stop evictions, request meetings via phone, mail, and email if you can't in person, what you can do if a request is denied, and many other helpful guides
Special Laws to Help Domestic Violence Survivors (Vouchers & Low Income Housing)- Protections, laws, and housing rights for survivors of DV (any gender), and how to get support and protection under the VAWA laws to help you and/or loved ones receive housing and assistance
Dealing With Debt & Disability- Information to assist with debt including student loans, medical debt, how to deal with debt collectors as well as an article with a step by step guide that helped the author cut her overwhelming medical bills by 80%!
There are so many more articles, guides, and tools here that have helped a lot of people. And there are a lot of rights, resources, and protections that people don't know they have and guides that can help you manage your life as a disabled person regardless of income, energy levels, and other factors.
Please boost!

People acting like I *must* switch to linux is why I've bounced off of linux so hard for so long, and the only reason linux has started looking even halfway reasonable is because windows has gotten so bad.
my only hope is that linux distros start getting their shit together as people DO swap to them from windows, because the big issue linux has coming is people like me who have no fucking clue what they're doing jumping ship at the last second out of desperation to get off of the property-as-a-service train as much as they can, not having anyone who understands what the fuck we're saying in IT, and the few people who CAN speak commoner instead of elitist jargon consisting 90% of three-letter acronyms being overwhelmed by the hordes of frustrated non-coder-brained people who tried switching to linux because they were sold a line of bullshit that it'd be a quick fix to stop their computer from trying to sell them shit while they search for where their variant of a chrome browser put the latest porn they downloaded
like, I have middling computer knowledge and can barely find information on errors with windows, and linux both supposedly works different fundamentally, and each distro is more niche (thus meaning the information I seek will be more buried under random bullshit). Also, 90% of the time I can't figure out heads or tails of the pages I get linked on github
Also, everyone who uses linux rn is like, the equivalent of someone who drives a muscle-car; they spend all their free time and energy tinkering with it because it's their hobby, so a lot of the fine-tuning bullshit doesn't seem like much to them, but everyone I've known to this point who has tried using linux who DOESN'T find enjoyment beating their head against random errors and not having a functioning "interact with the outside world" machine for a week, or memorizing how to use command scripts has bounced off of it roughly as hard as I have!
I talked about the problem of Windows system requirements being too damn high before, and how the windows 10 to 11 jump is especially bad. Like the end of Windows 10 is coming october 2025, and it will be a massive problem. And this article gives us some concrete numbers for how many computers that can't update from win10 to 11.
And it's 240 million. damn. “If these were all folded laptops, stacked one on top of another, they would make a pile 600 km taller than the moon.” the tech analysis company quoted in the article explains.
So many functioning computers that will be wasted. And it's all because people don't wanna switch to a Linux distro with sane system requirements and instead buy a new computer.
Like if you own one of these 240 million windows 10 computers, Just be an environmentally responsible non-wasteful person and switch that computer to Linux instead of just scrapping it because Microsoft says it's not good enough.
#Like#I don't want to switch to a different OS#I just want the OS I've got experience with to stop being so fucking shitty!#It's like wanting a broken sink repaired#but everyone is telling you to bulldoze your old house and build anew because it's easier to install a new sink than to repair a broken one#and as such nobody's willing to fix the sink because they don't want to figure out how to install a new sink in an existing cabinet#so you're forced to either use a broken sink or rebuild your entire goddamn house#because you can't figure out how to repair it yourself either#but it seems like you're going to fuck up and not succeed at rebuilding your house on the first second or even tenth time#so it's going to be a massive expenditure of time#energy#and resources#so you just wait for the floor to rot out since you're going to need to rebuild entirely anyway#but in the meantime everything's falling apart around you and you can't fix anything#and people are telling you you're a horrible person for not having the energy to change your entire system#but turns out the bank you got your mortgage from has a legal loophole where they still have control over how your current home#and are making increasingly absurd demands#like that we pay for new flooring#or that we let them install a CCTV feed in our bathroom#so like#we GOTTA move soon#but it's gonna take a lot of energy nobody but the people who ENJOY IT have been willing to expend up until this point#and there's gonna be a bunch of people who're just going to say “fuck it” and let their landlord put the crapper-cams in#because they don't have the energy to resist the panopticon anymore

1st House: The Helm This is where your spiritual energy and identity take the spotlight. The 1st House governs your appearance, personality, and vitality—the essence of how you project yourself to the world. It’s your steez, your approach to life, and the first impression you make on others. The 1st House is all about beginnings, the mask you may unknowingly wear, and how you come to know yourself on a deep authentic level. The captain of this ship is the ruling planet of the zodiac sign residing there.
2nd House: Gate of Hades Your values, self-esteem, and ability to attract wealth are all tied to the 2nd House. This is where your personal resources, possessions, and financial matters come into play. The foods you eat, your saving and spending habits, and your sense of self-worth are all part of this house. It’s where your style and material wealth are rooted, reflecting how you value yourself and what you own. This house represents how you sustain for yourself, how you support all that the first house needs of you to be who you are.
3rd House: Goddess The 3rd House is the domain of communication, early education, and the mind. It governs how you gather and process information, your intellect, and your interactions within your community. This house also encompasses your relationships with siblings, short travels, and technical skills. It’s the space where your to-do list and daily mental activities take shape.
4th House: Subterranean Deeply connected to your roots, the 4th House represents your home, heritage, and ancestry. It’s where your inner life and sense of security are nurtured, influenced by your upbringing and relationship with your parents—especially the mother. This house also relates to land, generational gifts, and knowledge passed down through the family. It’s a space of femininity and the feminine energies in your life. This is the lowest point of the birth chart and can be fairly private and personal-as opposed to the 10th house. It holds up the rest of the chart and is incredibly important in terms of learning about our sense of security/stability emotionally, spiritually, and physically.
5th House: Good Fortune Joy, creativity, and self-expression flourish in the 5th House. This is where you experience the pleasures of life—love affairs, children, art, and entertainment. It’s the house of flirtation, play, and drama, where your passions come to life. The 5th House also governs leisure activities, fertility, and the pursuit of happiness through creative endeavors. A sense of nostalgia lives here too.
6th House: Bad Fortune The 6th House deals with work, health, and daily routines. It’s the space of labor, servitude, and the duties that never seem to end. This house also governs how you care for your body, deal with illness and injury, and interact with employees or pets. It’s where the unexpected challenges in life arise, requiring your attention and resilience. Look here for understanding on what great works you may find yourself committing to.
7th House: Setting Place Relationships take center stage in the 7th House. This is where you finally begin to truly engage with others, forming long-term commitments, whether in marriage, partnerships, or friendships. It’s the house of open enemies, where you face the other in life. The 7th House also governs relaxation, romance, and the deep bonds that define your connections with others.
8th House: The Idle Place Death, transformation, and shared resources are key themes in the 8th House. It’s where you confront karma, contracts, and generational lessons. This house also deals with loans, debts, and the deep psyche—the mysteries and fears that lie beneath the surface. The 8th House is a place of soul material, where you explore the unseen and the unknown. Here, you face all consequences-positive & negative- of the 7th house and the relationships, contracts, and potential enemies made there. This is the house of others esteem of you, opposite of the 2nd.
9th House: House of God The 9th House is your portal to higher knowledge, philosophy, and spiritual exploration. It governs your worldview, ethics, and the pursuit of truth through study, travel, and discovery. This house is where you connect with religion, spirituality, and the higher mind, expanding your understanding of the world and your place in it.
10th House: House of Praxis Your public life, reputation, and career are shaped by the 10th House. It’s where you strive for honor, recognition, and achievements that define your legacy. This house also relates to your relationships with authority figures, particularly the father, and how you navigate the public sphere. The 10th House is where your goals, fame, and business acumen are realized. Sitting at the very top of the chart, like the sun at noon high in the sky, all can see you here.
11th House: Good Spirits In the 11th House, your hopes, dreams, and social networks come to life. This house governs your friendships, group affiliations, and the communities you belong to. It’s where you connect with humanity, receive sudden blessings, and find support in your aspirations. The 11th House is also associated with gifts, riches, and the imagination needed to dream big.
12th House: Bad Spirits The 12th House is a place of retreat, isolation, and self-undoing. It’s where you confront your inner shadows, secrets, and hidden enemies. This house governs institutions, mental health, and the need for solitude or seclusion. It’s also a space of psychological development, where you deal with endings, sickness, and the unseen forces that shape your life journey. This house is in a blind spot to the first house of Self and that is why we can be blind to the very things that reside here. Its not so much that these things seek out to destroy you but any area of your life your are deeply unaware of can come back and disorientate you from who you believe yourself to be.

Harnessing The Power Of Distributed Energy Resources With A Fuel Cell Generator For Home
Welcome to a new era of energy independence! With the rise of distributed energy resources and cutting-edge technologies like fuel cell generators for homes, homeowners now have the opportunity to take control of their energy needs. In this article, we will explore the concept of distributed energy resources and delve into the fascinating world of fuel cell generators, highlighting the revolutionary BlueGen Fuel Cell as a prime example.
Understanding Distributed Energy Resources (DERs):
Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) refer to a diverse array of energy sources and technologies that are located near the point of consumption, allowing homeowners to generate their electricity on-site. These resources include solar panels, wind turbines, microturbines, and fuel cell generators, among others. DERs offer numerous benefits, including reduced transmission losses, increased resilience, and a more sustainable energy future.
