The night air is cold but Ninian doesn't mind. It's refreshing, calming, soothing. Even the darkness and the solitude don't seem to bother her. She spent so much time alone, after all, with only Nils there who knew anything about her. Sometimes she thinks it had been easier then.

Footsteps approach from behind her, obvious in the quiet stillness of the night. Ninian whirls around, crimson eyes wide. The hour is late and there should not be anyone else awake but when she sees just who it is that's now in front of her, she visibly relaxes.

"Lord Eliwood...you startled me. You shouldn't be out so late." She knows she shouldn't be either but she is glad to see him. She's always glad to see him. Her lips curl into a slight smile. If anyone is to find her lost in her thoughts, at least he is the one to do so.

"Altina," Lehran calls, eyes drawn to her silhouette before even the brilliance of their solitary camp flame; though they have started to settle for the night he can tell she is restless still and so repeats, "love, have you sat down a moment today?"

Soan was still patrolling the perimeter of the camp but it was different for both him and Dheginsea, Lehran knew; for while certainly they tired it was not the same as the stress that seemed to settle in the black heron's very bones, and while Altina did not share that laguz heart sense of his he knew full well that fighting day in and day out was as hard on her heart as it was his own.

Sometimes he thinks the goddess meant for the two of them to meet so that Lehran might remind Altina that as radiant as she was she was still one woman.

"Talk with me for a moment," he asks, leaning up against a log brought over to the fire. "We still have the means for stew. You know I prefer vegetable stock myself but we should at least use up the last of the squirrel. Would you like that I put some on?"

"I heard someone marches with the resistance that resembles Princess Julia. Can you imagine?" whispers one servant to another in one of Belhalla's many corridors. 

The other smacks the first, hissing back, "shut up! You know what happens if you're caught saying that name!" 

But it is too late. The empress turns the corner just in time to hear the name of her forgotten daughter. "Julia," Deirdre repeats as she is filled with an uncontrollable sadness. Why is she so sad? She does not know a Julia. She has never even heard that name before. It is a beautiful name but it breaks her heart to hear it. 

Tears stream down her face and she falls to her knees. 

The second servant blanches and rushes to the empress's side. "Please, your majesty, I didn't say it! I didn't say anything!"

On this Midsummer's eve, the Ealdríce lights three fires. The first is the bonfire (bone fire) which is made up of all bones. The smoke from this will drive ill wights away. The second is Þunor's fire (called St. John's fire by unheathens). That is made up of both bones and wood. The third is the wake-fire and that is all wood. These pictures are of the bonfire pile and Þunor's fire pile. More bones will be added as guildsmen and guests arrive.
