JIANYU HAD BEEN SPEAKING to one of the mercenaries he brought from the guild when the hurried sound of footsteps caught his attention. At first, he had assumed that one of the citizens was coming to him to beseech his aid in dealing with some issue, but upon catching sight of Hikari, he paused. ❝What happened, Hikari?❞ he asked, gently placing his hand upon her shoulder when she grasped his arm. Had something happened to Crimson? One of her brothers? These were the only reasons he could think of that would make her so utterly distressed. What he expected to hear, and what he heard were two completely different things. Alarmed, there were a great deal of questions he wanted to ask, but before then – ❝Khasar, come. Alaina, alert the others that one of the royals has been attacked and to be on the alert.❞ The mercenary in question stood to attention, hand clasping upon leather breastplate in a quick salute before she quickly ran in the opposite direction, leaving Jianyu, Hikari, and his hound as the only one’s present.

     ❝Fill me in on what transpired on our way to the infirmary.❞ For as quick to adopt a position of authority as he was, it had taken every ounce of control to not simply rush off the moment Hikari had told him that her uncle had been hurt. How had this happened? There were still those who held a grudge against the Elysian family, he knew. Citizens who had lost much beneath the Tyrant King’s rule, and even those within the castle itself as well might, have still looked upon Atlas with understandable distrust. Still, security wasn’t necessarily lax around here, so who could it have been? None of that mattered. He just wanted to see Atlas. That was the only thought that would occupy his mind until he saw if his condition was stable.

S-SUN KING GUY… NO one had ever addressed him like this before. Honestly, for a moment, he wasn’t even sure what he was supposed to say to such a statement. On one hand, it was strangely amusing for the sheer fact that he could imagine that had any of his retainers been present, they would have gasped audibly in horror at how familiar that simple address was. Hikari’s attempt at ‘damage control’ was unnecessary, and yet, he was entertained by it all the same. ❝And you two must be…❞ Ozymandias lifted his hand, rubbing his chin in thought as he tried to recall Crimson’s children. ❝Shou and Hikari, correct? It is a pleasure to be able to speak to the both of you. I had thought that we would never have an opportunity to cross paths considering we are all quite busy individuals.❞ He smiled, offering his own polite bow of his head. ❝I do look forward to being able to get to know you in the future, if you both would allow it.❞

"   hikari greets at the front doors to adrian,  holding a small basket of sweet treats she ended up baking.  beside her stood shou,  who passes them a simple 'yo' with a wave,  hands dug into the pockets of his cargo pants.    "  hey.  is euriel here ?   stopping by for a visit.  well,  mostly hikari wanted to visit the guy,  i'm just chaperoning.  "   his comment earns him a small nudge from hikari,  who pouts at him.

"Well, isn't my little Euri popular lately."  A soft laugh.  This house is truly starting to feel like a home again since they've met the Tsukinos, sibling bickering and all.  "It's good to see you two. Come in, come in. He's around here somewhere."  The doors are pulled further open to accommodate them with ease, eyes practically sparkling at the sight of a familiar basket in Hikari's grasp.

"Are those Sweet Star Café cookies I see?"

     SEDENE HAVING LONG SINCE placed hot cups of tea between him and Hikari, he hadn’t realized that the soft expression he wore was still present until it was mentioned. For how long had she been staring at him? The thought alone was enough to be faintly embarrassing as he cleared his throat, lifting his cup towards his lips and taking a small sip. Catching him in a smile was a rare thing, such given sparingly and oftentimes primarily to certain individuals – said individuals, of course, being the Melusines. Even so, how could he not feel some semblance of fluster at being observed with such scrutiny without being aware? Rather than talking about his smile, of all things, he casually changed the topic’s focus. ❝The weather has been rather pleasant lately. I suppose that is due to the winter winds blowing through, but it does make one wish to go for afternoon walks. While you are here, I highly recommend giving it a try, Miss Hikari.���

"  she squeaks again when she realizes who she's bumped into.

     TODAY HAD BEEN RATHER lively, at least in regards to the young Servants that ran about Chaldea playing their little games. Normally they entertained themselves with Nursery Rhymes little tea parties and storybook sessions, but today was a 'rowdy' day so to speak. He could hear them giggling, small shoes clacking on polished tile as they ran about here and there. Such earned a small smile from the pharaoh, a hint of nostalgia coming over him for just a moment. Despite having heard the commotion, he hadn't expected someone to round the corner right when he had as well. He grunted as they collided against him, stumbling back as a result of the rather violent clashing. Normally his first reaction was to be angry and indignant, but for a moment's time, he had assumed it was one of the children who had bumped into him, thus any anger had been kept under lock and key, replaced instead, by a small sense of annoyance.

     ❝How many times have you been told not to run in the...❞ A pause. ❝Hikari?❞ Well this was unexpected. Was she the one who currently was keeping the young ones entertained? More than likely the answer to that was yes considering the sheet that laid by her side. ❝So you are the one with the bad habits today, hm?❞ Lips curled into an amused smirk, what ill-temper he had felt moment's prior, gone in an instant. ❝Do not worry, I forgive you.❞ Ozymandias stepped closer, his hand held out for her to take -- a rarity from him, but perhaps his mood was good this day. ❝Do be careful when you round corners in the future.❞

          HE COULD ONLY FIGURE HE WAS SPEAKING ABOUT EURIEL , considering the four of them were the only individuals taking up the space in the cafe at the moment. somewhat fresh from a session of training by his lonesome , hikari had offered him refreshments after the activities & shou happened to appear soon after. sipping at his own lemonade situated on a coaster , katsuki bites back the makings of a smirk , but allows crimson hues to roll freely. 

          ‘ tch.      let ‘em throw hands , hikari. shou talks his shit , but he ain’t about it. ‘ the words that leave his lips are dripping in subtle taunt , a little less bite & a little more play to them than normal. ‘ ‘specially since there’s NO WAY he could beat me at uno either. ‘ it seems like katsuki also wants to brew some trouble , sorry hikari.

" a firmness dips into her voice as hikari huffs with her chest, hand reaching out to hold onto the other's arm. she looks up at him with determined eyes, smiling brightly. " i'm gonna be strong so that even someone like me can be reliable to you ! "

               “     oh — ?  is hikari training so rigorously that she will crack skulls with her fists?     ”     smokey laughter chimes deeply and steady like grand bells tolling in sync to a resting heart’s beat.  she lets him hold his arm, and he rests a heavy hand atop her head caressing it tenderly. her vehemence is admired, much appreciated. it makes him swell up with pride watching such grand bravery bloom brilliantly in a tiny body.       “      silly pup. striving to become stronger is nothing to look down upon, but ...     ”

arm parts from her grasp to kneel to her. that hand of his remains on her head, he begins to sway her left and right, ruffling her hair and making it a messy tuft.    “    how are you not reliable now, ah?  you have a gift: healing. medicine is as valuable to warfare than it is a warrior with a sword or gun.    ”     he looks down, eyes casting a reflective dive into memory of the civil war. how the nurses fought bravely at aizu, standing their ground with rifles as they tended to the wounded saving as many as they could knowing loss was inevitable. 

“      someone told me once that i shouldn’t be so reckless. that if our army was a body, that i was the head — a body can afford to lose limbs, but never the head for that is it. everything is completely lost.     ”      the vice commander reconnects his crimson hues with hikari, angling it gently.     “     and what are medics to the body? glimmers of hope. save the limbs and you minimize the blood loss. minimizing blood loss then helps circulation to the brain, the head.    ”     smile grows, coolly he murmurs hushed rattling her head delicately,     “    think about that, ah? grow stronger by all means, however you were always reliable.     ”

“  they sound lovely ,     don’t they ?  ”          a wistful sigh ,     almost melancholic in its sound ,     as she watches the chittering songbirds as they hop about the rosebush ,     now withered with winter’s decay .     she raises a single ,     pallid hand with her fingers loosely curled ,     beckoning for one of the many birds to perch upon in .     but animals seemed to have that preternatural sense when it came to her  ——  to what she was .     the birds flew away before she could get too close .       

they could always see past the pretty facade to the rot that lurked beneath .

GUUGH….THE WAY THAT Elara said that… His brows furrowed a little with growing embarrassment, gaze now shifting over to a distant wall than lingering on anyone in that room. She couldn’t have guessed what transpired here during her absence. He was just – he was misreading things, is all. He hadn’t even had a chance to attempt to collect himself again before Hikari’s words came next like a freight train. All this spotlight on him…! ❛He came by suuuper fast!❜ Just end him. Please, whatever gods are listening, just strike him down right here and right now. Tips of his ears beginning to grow red, it was only a matter of time before that color slowly began to spread across his cheeks too. H-How did he even land himself in a situation like this one? Clearing his throat a little, he stood a bit straighter, red coming to meet Hikari’s ever bright blue.

     ❝That will not be necessary, Your Highness. Since His Majesty, Atlas, is close to your father, my protection extends to him too as well as you. Besides, I would much prefer to see you spend that allowance on things you like rather than on a mere mercenary like me.❞ His gaze was quick to flicker over to Atlas, Jianyu knowing for a fact that he was amused by this entire situation even as he returned his attention back to Hikari. ❝Anyway,❞ he continued, tone steady despite how he felt like melting through the cracks in the floor, ❝as much as I would like to stay, I need to go check on my people and let them know how things are going here, as well as write up a report to send back to the guild. My captain will want an update on the situation as soon as possible.❞

      Placing a closed fist against his chest in a salute, he bowed his head slightly. ❝Your Highness, Miss Elara, Your Majesty, I bid you all a pleasant evening.❞ Tearing his gaze away, he turned and promptly made to take his leave before he somehow made a fool of himself.

elara lets out a small hum of approval, uttering to herself, " all his needs, hm ? ... good. " her words weren't missed by atlas, whose eyes flicker between elara and jianyu in faint confusion before his attention is returned to his niece, who looks up at him with wide, pleading eyes. " uncle, please don't work too hard, okay ? you really had us worried sick. mister jianyu too ! he came by suuuper fast. " she admits, looking between jianyu and atlas with brightened eyes. eventually, her gaze would land to jianyu.

" mister jianyu, please keep looking after uncle. e - even if i have to pay you with my whole allowance ! " hikari's words make atlas stiffen a bit, both in the ironic twist that jianyu definitely did more than simply ' take care ' of him, and amusement over his niece's steadfast resolve have jianyu remain at his side. the king forces himself to look away, shoulders quivering faintly as he tries to hold back a very small laugh from escaping him.

" hikari ... you will put a lot of pressure on him. " atlas speaks, his smile apparent as he gives the princess another small pat on the head. " and rest assured, i can take care of myself just fine ... "
