Philanthropic Birthday Girl

Happy, happy birthday, Busy Philipps!🎂 Despite the fact that I’ve referenced her twice in the the past week, I swear I don't have a girl crush on Busy. Well, maybe I do. Heck, I think maybe we ALL do. I mean - do you WATCH her instastories? It's basically the best entertainment ever. Her stories inspire me and I find myself rooting for her daily. To be honest, I just love cheering on people who are genuine, fun, creative, talented, philanthropic, and seem to just squeeze the joy out of life. That’s probably why I love California so much - this state is just full of those kinds of people we get to meet. I got to meet Busy when I emceed the MaxLove Project Farm To Fork dinner when she and her husband were seated at my table. And, a few weeks ago, Busy invited me to sit at her table when she emceed the Norma Jean Gala benefitting Hollygrove, the LA division of Uplift Family Services, a nonprofit agency that provides a 360-approach of programs to meet the social-emotional, behavioral and mental health needs of young children, teens and their families. While I watched Busy shine onstage in that beautiful rainbow fiesta of a dress from alice + olivia by Stacey Bendet, I was proud of my new friend and saw friends we have in common around the room (Janie Bryant Ian Ziering Erin Zieringweelicious Kira Heuer Abby Arad & more), and got to to know a few of her dearest friends seated at her table. As we know, they say like people attract like, and I can tell you by just one night with Busy and her friends - and the Hollygrove family - that this is most certainly the case. An actress, a mom, a wife, a creative and a philanthropist, watching her light up the stage in all of her color reminded me that the greatest gift you can bring to your craft is simply being the truest state of your natural self. So, today, on Busy’s birthday, I didn’t send flowers or beauty products or such to the birthday girl but instead reached out to Hollygrove to see how I can be of help because sometimes just using our talents and resources can indeed be our greatest gift to give.
