23rd July 2024: Views and Great Crested Grebe and chicks I got amazing glimpses of them again at Lakeside Country Park at lunch time and bindweed on the way to Lakeside.

Holly Blue, Green-veined White, Ringlet, Silver Y and Six-spot Burnet moths, hoverfly, Jackdaw including in the garden, possible Whitethroat heard, Mallard, red bartsia, marsh speedwell and St. John's-wort were other highlights today.

A holly blue butterfly drinking minerals from the wet mud along one of the paths, at RSPB Fowlmere.

Celastrina argiolus, probably...

Holly Blues are known for "puddling" Behaviour where they sip moisture from, for example, wet soil. This behavior helps them absorb minerals.

Some blue butterflies I have enjoyed seeing this year, Holly Blue at Lakeside this week, Adonis Blue at Martin Down in May, Chalkhill Blue at Stockbridge Down on Monday and Silver-studded Blue at the Range, South Stack last month.
