He cries doing it, but he also smiles and laughs and thinks of his mother, of her terrible food, of how he has been trying to keep the memory of her alive in his dishes, trying to find her in every bite.

He thinks of her and then thinks of Hua Cheng and all the love and devotion and loyalty he's given to his now fallen god for over eight centuries now.

And he makes stew. Just stew.

When Hua Cheng comes home and smells the aroma of a good meal wafting through the air and finds Xie Lian smiling through tears sat at the table where there's two bowls of stew awaiting, he just knows.

And he cries with him as they eat whilst the wind howls at the window.

The Xianle quartet in the begining of TGCF is literally so funny to me as a concept.

Because it's literally these 3 guys who have disguised themselves from this 1 guy to go hang out with him. 2 of them know who each other is and also immediately recognised who the third guy is but don't have any proof to back it up. And the third guy also knows exactly who they are but he doesn't care and doesn't even wanna interact with them because he got beef with them.

Meanwhile the 1 guy they are disguising themselves from actually recognised them on sight because they absolutely suck at disguising themselves, but they're trying so hard and he doesn't want them to feel bad and they're also hanging out now so that's fun, he doesn't wanna ruin that.

The books: describes Yin Yu as the most normal looking person on the face of the earth. So normal Xie Lian thinks he is not a real person but a form He Xuan takes. Just a completely normal looking dude. Not beautiful or ugly just average.

The donghua team (probably kicking their feet and twirling their hair and giggling I imagine): so we made the choice to give Yin Yu pink eyes. A definitely completely normal eye-color. See how normal he is.
