The Small One

I met this god in the California desert where the Holy Laboratory of the Microscopic Deities (HLMD) is located. The location put me in mind of a university campus. There was a buzz of curiosity in the air.

The followers were intriguing, as most Holy Scientists are. These were a specific sect focusing on microbiology. Most were very excited about my research. One young lady said "research is our form of worship" which delighted me to no end. Most followers I meet are standoffish and territorial of their practices and culture.

The followers wore strange robes, made to replicate the images of microscopic animals. The cut of their clothes was often round and shapeless. It was often impossible to differentiate between the genders of the followers, as they all tended to have short, practical hairstyles.

The method of conversing with The Small One was fascinating. First, I was instructed to swab the inside of my cheek, which the Holy Lab Tech then slipped into the microscope. As I looked into that contraption, I felt my whole body come alight. It always feels different with every god I meet. I had a complete and total awareness of every aspect of my being. I felt the friction between each cell, the dull snap of my synapses, the trickle of my hormones. It was a churning cacophony of biological machinery.

The god looked like a cluster of grey bubbles.

"Hello," it said, in my own voice. It hummed up the microscope and spoke through my own vocal chords.

My mouth felt slack, so I did not reply right away. I leaned all my weight onto where my eye rested on the cylindrical tube of the microscope. It took me a second to get used to the feeling. The ache of metal against my eye socket returned me to my senses.

But alas, it had vacated. The strange feeling left my body, and I was looking at regular spit cells once again.

The Holy Lab Tech patted my arm in sympathy, "It never stays for long," she said.

I tried to speak with it a couple more times during my stay, but to no avail. I was devastated.

The Geeta Patel one or something else? Tbh I don't care anymore, and you shouldn't either. These post-episode interviews all follow the same pattern: show either nothing or the bare minimum on-screen, then actors try to bring depth and substance to the barebones writing they're stuck with in the off-screen. It seems like PR cleanup to me for the bad scripts, all of these interviews and podcasts etc. the entire cast and directors are doing to be honest. What's shown on-screen is not representative to what's being said in these articles, because the writers just do not care about characters and dynamics that don't involve Rhaenyra. It's a bigger problem than just helaemond.

Was macht man, wenn man Ferien vom Druckmuseum macht? Na klar – man geht in ein Druckmuseum. In diesem Fall zum Hessischen Landesmuseum / Abteilung für Schriftguss, Satz und Druckverfahren. Dort natürlich in die Schriftgießerei von @druckerei_gerstenberg, denn das sollte man mal gesehen, gehört und bestaunt haben. his fingers brush against your skin, spelling out all the ways that he loves you. you could’ve pictured all the ways he could’ve told you he loves you for the first time, but you didn’t expect to be woken up to this. 

⤿ notes: happy birthday to one of the seven loves of my life, my sunshine, my hope, mr jung hoseok. i was freaking out for a few good minutes because i wanted to do something for his birthday, but i didn’t have any idea what to do. and then i remembered i had written several drabbles with the prompt ‘the first time he tells you he loves you’ and then the ‘he loves me’ drabble series came up! just in time for his birthday, too! this is just pure fluff, as is most of the series, and i really hope you guys enjoy! 

It’s still dark when you begin to stir. You’re not sure why you’re waking up, but then you feel it. A finger, gently moving across your back. Hoseok’s up, that’s for sure. You let out a sigh, snuggling deeper into the bed, and decide to let him continue what he’s doing. He’s stopped while you’re moving, but then he picks up once again, shifting closer so you can feel the warmth of his body next to yours.

His movements are soft against the bare skin of your back, barely there touches. You can’t place the designs he’s drawing, but honestly, you’re not sure he really has any designs in mind. With the sheet laying low on your hips, he has the entire space of your back to himself. And he takes advantage of this. Swirls across your shoulders, dots up and down your spine, hearts on your lower back. You can’t help the smile that spreads across your lips as he moves onto drawing words across your back.

It takes you a moment to realize that he’s starting out with lyrics to songs. Mostly from BTS, but you notice some from other artists. All having to do with love. And after a while, he’s moving onto pet names, the ones he most likes to call you. When he’s pleased with that, he moves onto your name and then his. His finger hesitates for a moment, before he spells out his last name with your first. That makes your heart skip a beat, and you still have to make a conscious effort not to move. His last name with yours makes it across your back in different ways, switching from different fonts to different languages. You can pinpoint a couple, but you’re trying to place the letters in your head.

But that doesn’t last very long after you try to do so. Because he’s hesitating once more. His hand smooths flat over your back, and you hear him sigh. A soft kiss is pressed to your shoulder, and he leaves his lips there for quite a while. If it wasn’t for the lack of pressure to signal his body relaxing, you would’ve thought he’d fallen asleep on you. But he’s not. His lips are removed from your skin and a single finger is placed on your back again.

You’re not sure what you expected him to write, but what he does takes you by surprise. It shouldn’t have, seeing as he had been writing your names combined after all. But it’s different because he’s writing he loves you. Formal, informal, switching to different languages again, using different fonts, and then just settling on ‘love’, over and over again. Your heart swells in your chest, and you feel tears well up in your eyes. You know he thinks you’re asleep, but you can’t help but to speak up anyway.

“I love you too, Jung Hoseok. And maybe one day you can stick your last name in place of my own.” Your words make Hoseok jump, and you’re switching your tears for a laugh, moving so you can look at him in the dark.

“I… didn’t know you were awake.” Is the first thing he says, and he’s leaning up to turn on the lamp, holding his hand to his chest. You waste no time sitting up as well, and cupping his face in your hands. “That’s not how I was planning on telling you that I love you.”

“Really? Because I loved it and I love you. And I really think you should kiss me.”

He wastes no time gathering you into his arms and kissing you, whispering words of love into your mouth.
