Meet Mizumi! She shares a lot of traits with her descendant, though is maybe even more optimistic & reckless lol. As this is set 2 years after Legends Arceus, she is indeed a girl from the modern era who saved the Hisui region together with the Creation Trio & Arceus as part of the Survey Corps. She is also the youngest & the smallest of the cast, standing at 4’8”.

She’s inspired by my IRL great-grandmother Hiyoko (who married my 6 foot something great-grandfather lol). Like me, Ansy only heard good things about her from older family members, though have never met her herself (except at the Crystal Pool).

I know you've reviewed the Goodra line, but have you talked about Hisuian Sliggoo and Goodra?

While I don't like it more than the original, I do think Hisuian Sliggoo is pretty solid for a regional. The original line were mostly slugs with a few snail-like touches, so taking them and adding a shell to make them true snails makes logical sense thematically. Making the shell a result of increased iron in the line's diet and then making them part steel-type also works nicely.

In Sliggoo's case, while the body itself barely changes, the way it hides within its shell gives it a very different silhouette from the original and helps to instantly make the two unique. I wouldn't have minded more changes, but what we got is distinct enough, and cute to boot.

However, Hisuian Goodra is kind of a major step down from Sliggoo. What makes Hisuian Sliggoo work isn't just that it has a shell, it's that it has a shell that it stays in 24/7. Completely removing that element from H. Goodra makes it way too similar to the original. Sure, the shell itself is different, but it mostly feels like the same creature with one single design change. It actually has multiple changes—one less spot on its head and tail, the spots being desaturated, longer antennae, a different expression that doesn't really add anything—but everything else is so minor it's almost unnoticeable.

Off the top of my head, here were some things they could've changed about the body if they really didn't want to have it in its shell 24/7 (ideally, these would be applied to H. Sliggoo as well for consistency):

Change the colors (there are tons of snails out there to pick from)

Inverse the body so the darker color is on top and vice versa

Make the antennae curled up to mimic the shape of the shell

Change the position of the slime drips

Change the position of the spots, such as putting them on the shell or along the sides of the body

Change the face to look more like Sliggoo's

Change the feet to be more gastropod-ish

Etc. The shell itself is fine—but it's not enough to do all the heavy lifting on its own.

For the record, while I prefer regular Sliggoo slightly I do prefer Hisuian Goodra a bit over the original, just because I like the weight of that giant shell and the way it merges directly with the tail, as well as the more hunched-over posture. I do like the more saturated colors and happier expression of the original though, so it is what it is.

Overall, Hisuian Sligoo is a pretty good regional that puts a nice twist on the original design. Hisuian Goodra is fine, but it doesn't change enough to really feel like its own unique thing.

Patchwork knocked on the door with a gleeful look. Halloween was one of her favorite occasions for obvious reasons. This year she was dressed as...well herself but her skin was painted black with white lines. To look like a skeleton from the looks of it.

When answered she took a breath and gave a very enthusiastic-

"Trick or treat!"

Behind her was what looked to be a hulkingliy tall annihilape, but it turned out to be Emma dressed as one. She looked a bit sheepish despite her wicked fit.

"Aren't we a bit old for this?"

"Hush hush, no ones to old for anything. Besides! Bunkers loving this!"

The hisuian sligoo who was dressed with a simple cloak and scythe, chirped as her name was mentioned and went up to Romeo and happily hugged his leg

Vinny: Your really like that giant Primeape from that movie. And your costume Patchwork, really like the skeleton look. Romeo: Let's see what treats you'll three shall get today.

Romeo: Ahh some good treats here. Patchwork, hope your a fan of chewy candy, cause these pudding bites would give you a new experience on gummy candy. Emma, you a fruit fan? Maybe you'll like these creamsavers? Fruit-n-cream flavored hard candies. And Bunker, maybe these Butterfinger BB's would be your new favorite. Bite size butterfingers to enjoy. Even remember the time the Simpsons use to sponsor these candies too. And remember Bunker, "Ain't nobody lay a finger, on your Butterfinger."...Or not. And like share your treats with each other. so i know in the centaur au akari is a stantler, but i had the thought of a hisuian typhlosion centaur akari, and now i have a need to see that in your art style

so with the centaur au ive basically got 2 groups the one where eveyones a "normal" centaur so like sawsback, stantler or something thats got a similar bodytype. then i have the other version where everyone just what ever i think fits like a haxsours or eelektross, also i should figure out a way to differentiate them in tags huh :/

so yeah hisuian typhlosion is a very good pick for her

Liochant's pokemon teams before coming to Ru'aun and after coming to Ru'aun

Very snake themed. He was able to get one little friend that was genuinely his but the other pokemon were loaned to him. He has had his growlithe since childhood and have stayed together through thick and thin.

His team while in Ru'aun is rather under developed as he had only recently gotten some of his pokemon. That isn't to say they arent strong, they are mostly just little dudes. Dragon/Fire focus

Hisuian Arcanine - HIS BUDDY EVOLVED :D

Fraxure - He found this dude while picking apples and gave him some food. This little stabby dude is attached to him

Larvesta - Both threatening and huggable, much like Liochant

Applin - Mistook it for an actual apple, felt incredibly bad

Sligoo - Somebody at the guard academy had two Goodra that had children and immediately gave an egg to Liochant because he is the only one who they thought could hatch it

Victini - Liochant is a former gladiator, he would have encountered the victory pokemon eventually.

I've had this Sligoo since it was a Goomy, and I'd like to say that I know quite a bit about the line, but I've never seen one like this before. Is this a normal form for Sligoo, and if so, will this form have any effect on how I should care for him now and when he becomes a Goodra?

Do you have hard water, by any chance? By which I refer to water with a lot of dissolved minerals in it. He's absorbed a lot of these minerals and iron particulates and converted them into a shell when he evolved. It's perfectly normal and used to be found all over Sinnoh. Before snow melts from climate change flushed the rivers, a lot of the waterways had iron deposits and dissolved calcium, leading to the now extinct goodra population there developing shells. People used to think it was a regional variant but no, they just do that!

You don't find goodra in Sinnoh nowadays, though. When the waters softened, they lost their shells and became more vulnerable to other dragons.

He won't be much different from an unshelled one, but he'll be more vulnerable to fire and ground types, though the added steel type does provide more protection from fairy type attacks!

With Pokémon Legends: Z-A giving us a return to Kalos and Mega Evolution, the one Pokémon I want to see get a Mega is my favorite Pokémon, Goodra. So, made my own Mega Evolution for it. Here's the dex entry:

Once Goodra mega evolves, its tail curls and hardens up to make it as hard as steel, referencing its Hisuian counterpart. This Dragon and Poison type has an Acid signature on its antenna and arms which lights up to let others know when it uses Poison type attacks. Its legs also dissipate into a type of goo pattern, making it slug-like, just like it's previous evolutions.

I really hope Goodra gets a Mega Form. I was first gonna give this Mega with the Fire type and make the design totally different but I decided to interpret the slug inspiration from Goomy and Sligoo, and interpret design elements from Hisuian Goodra. Tell me what you think 😊👍

oooo, I love pokémon. it's hard to pick a best, because there are elements of each that I love. for eg, the aesthetic of the legends arceus and the photo shop and the exploration and how you do actually throw the pokéballs is incredible, playing with pokémon properly in x and farming berries and the hoards are fun, while I adore some of the regional forms in moon, I like the shield dlc in particular because I love legendary hunting and peony is like my favourite character in anything ever, the battles in go are tense I think, oh and I like the soups and camping in shield and how the bikes feel to ride. so like, I can't pick a favourite outright, I think I would pick a hypothetical game that combined everything I like within other games lmao. but I have the most hours in arceus, if that's worth anything, so it's probably that, by virtue of you play what's most enjoyable most usually. I've gotten the shiny charm in every gen since gen 6. Which felt like an important ritual to me. But, I thought I'd NEVER get it in Legends: Arceus! Instead of just needing one of each mon, you have to level up each dex to 10 and it seemed like something I'd never want to suffer through. Untill I learned we'll be able to transfer hisuian sligoo over to scarlet/violet. Anyways, it took forever and was only marginally fun but I did it! My shiny Diogenes living in his ceramic pot will be able to come with me to the next gen :D

The more I think about this the more it bothers me, and for one very specific reason: Goodra.

While introduced in the Kalos region games XY, Goodra also appears in Legends Arceus with a regional variant, Hisuian Goodra.  Kalosian Goodra, which is now the official designation for the original Goodra design, is pure Dragon type.  Hisuian Goodra is Steel/Dragon type, and the reason why, according to the Dex entry of its pre-evolution Hisuan Sligoo…is that its body reacted to the iron in Hisui’s water.

Now.  I am no expert on water hardness, and Pokedex entries are best taken with a grain of salt.

But something doesn’t fucking add up.

If the Kalos region’s water is so upsettingly hard, then why doesn’t it have any effect on Kalosian Goodra?  If minerals in the region’s water can affect this Pokémon to the point it adapts into a new regional form, then I’m sorry: you can’t tell me it can flourish in a region with impossibly hard water and remain pure Dragon type.  It would have to be part Steel, or Rock, or Ground, or something!

Either Hisui’s water is even more astronomically fucked up than Kalos’s, or this claim has to be false.  Intentional or accidental, who knows, but the observable and well-documented disparity between Goodra’s two forms is clearly at odds with what we’re being asked to believe here.
