It’s not a question, as the daiyoukai stares unconcernedly down the end of hiraikotsu, a thing both beautiful and grotesque, forged from the bones of lesser creatures Sesshomaru himself would have unblinkingly dispatched. 

He stares openly at Hisui, son of the hunter and the Buddhist monk, appraising him for the value of his very life, on the spot.

    “You have your mother’s courage, and her poise.”

His tone is, now, unmistakably favorable. 

    “She once saved my ward’s life.”

                  She’d been startled by the sudden intrusion of another energy in her space, but upon seeing the young demon slayer before her, she smiled kindly, with understanding.

                  “It’s quite alright, really.” She replied, “I was just about finished anyway, if anything, you were helpful in bringing me back to awareness.” She continued, standing as well when he straightened himself.

                  She was only slightly taken aback by his inquiries, the surprise evident in her cerulean eyes for a moment as she regarded him, though she was rather flattered he’d come to her regardless of her shock. She knew he’d had plenty of training in slaying demons and that most definitely not her forte so she could only assume he was coming to her concerning matters that were more spiritual. Even so, considering his father, why wouldn’t he have...

                  “I would be more than happy to teach you whatever I can,” She responded, another kind smile forming on her lips before careful curiosity knit her brow, “I must confess though, I am wondering why you would come to me rather than Master Mushin... Unless you’re looking for specific tutelage in creating barriers?”

                       She saw him alright, and knew exactly the curiosity he was expressing; having a mother as well as a warrior in a person made for very few passes. Not that she faulted the boy, Sango herself was near as young when her father told her she had expressed interest in Hiraikotsu.

Of course there was a difference between a child’s natural curiosity, and that of a weaponsmaster in the making. Bending knee, the eldest living slayer placed a soft hand to his back, and the other to lay flat on the surface of the massive bone weapon, though far be it from her to discourage the boy on either path. Though the thought of Hiraikotsu somehow harming her child, DID cross her mind - not that she feared it would do so purposefully, but it was imbued and carried with it now a very potent and very poisonous shoki.

                          “Hir-ai-ko-tsu.” She pronounced clearly for him, to try again if he wished, 

                           “Good job Hi-chan.”

so what I love about Hisui’s character so far is he has by far the most honest reactions out of everyone. He brings up mention of Setsuna’s twin once learning she even had one out of concern which shows HOW FREAKIN MUCH he cares about his teammate and when he learns she hasn’t been sleeping and fdnjk kaede even speculates she’s killed her sister - he’s still shown to be very concerned and have a lot of empathy for what she’s been through. 

I swear if I don’t get a three way hug or something once these girls come back and see Kohaku and Hisui rushing over to at least see if Setsuna’s OKAY . It’ll be a missed opportunity , in my opinion. To show even though she doesn’t think ??? she has family and friends that care about her , that she does. I love their dynamic already. Say what you will, for me the slayers are the best part of the show so far - buuuut I’m also biased cause anything MirSan related just gives me feels. 

It’s like I’m watching their baby boy grow up. And I love him sm. Give me more sunrise. give me MOREEEE.

Omfg!! Kaede lol! What type of crap did you experience or see from Setsuna for you to throw a accusation like this out there in the open like that? Damn I know the girl can be cold but she has a sense of morality. Making Setsuna seem like nothing but a blood thirsty killer! 😂

I think there’s Alstroemeria for friendship and mutual support cause we’re y'know.. friends and Azalea cause that’s… i-it’s a flower for taking care of yourself and softness … femininity according to my um. mother , oh and some Camellia General cause I admire you I think you’re really cool and one of the best fighter we have on our team, Gladiolus for the same reason you’re really .. strong and- it’s an honor to fight alongside you and Lilly-Of-The-Valley because I. You’re a really great partner and since we started fighting together I think. I’m just a lot happier and it’s nice to have someone to rely on, Sunflower because… I know… we’ve had our ups and downs but I don’t.. think I could ever… have another partner… teammate … you know. A-And the Acacia Flower but uh. That’s because my.. ❜ he rubs the side of his face, flushed splotches rising in complexion, cheeks. ❛ father says they’re sort of associated with how pure a particular soul was. there’s more meanings but um. that’s ..  that’s not important because. at  the  call�� of  her  name  ,  setsuna  stopped  her  walk  to  kaede’s  village  &  turned  around.  face  stoic  ,  naginata  in  hand  &  gaze  expectant  as  she  watched  him  approach..  she  was  about  to  ask  him  what  he  wanted  ,  until  she  saw  the  flowers  in  his  hand  ;  brilliant  colors  calling  for  her  attention  &  demanding  them  to  stay  glued  to  them.

eyes  widened  &  mouth  was  shaped  into  a  small  circle.  unable  to  look  away  from  them.  did  he...  pick  flowers..  for  her?  purple  eyes  flickered  as  she  stared  at  them  ,  trying  to  listen  to  his  explanation  over  the  beat  of  her  heart  that  had  picked  up  its  pace. 

it  was  after  a  couple  of  seconds  that  she  realized  he  had  picked  them  for  her  not  just  for  their  appearance  ,  but  for  their  meaning.  he  was  telling  her  something  with  each  flower  he  picked  ,  &  as  he  explained  why  ,  her  cheeks  took  on  a  light  red  color  that  became  more  highlighted  as  he  would  move  on  to  the  next  flower.  each  flower  &  each  sentiment  making  her  heart  feel  warm..  until  he  got  to  the  last  one.

he  said  purity  ,  but  she  knew  the  flower  for  another  meaning  &  it  was  that  thought  what  caused  the  flush  on  her  cheeks  to  become  redder  &  more  noticeable  ;  this  time  ,  unable  to  conceal  it.  head  turned  away  &  purple  eyes  fixed  on  a  tree  far  on  her  side   ,  fearing  that  if  she  were  to  look  at  him  ,  the  red  on  her  cheeks  would  spread  until  it  covered  her  face.

❛  thanks..  they’re  very  pretty..  ❜  she  muttered  as  she  took  them  from  his  hand  &  brought  them  close  to  her.  there  was  this  question  in  her  head  that  she  needed  to  ask.  a  clarification  for  the  last  one  ,  but–  ❛  hisui?  ❜  she  called  his  name  as  soon  as  she  heard  the  sound  of  his  footsteps.  formulating  the  question  she  wanted  to  ask  in  her  head  ;  the  acacia..  didn’t  that  one  stand  for––

setsuna  turned  around  &  continued  on  her  way.  the  sky�� was  already  stained  with  orange  &  yellow  ;  trying  to  not  let  the  burst  of  emotions  she  was  doing  her  best  to  conceal  to  make  her  forget  the  promise  she  had  made  towa  &  kaede  about  helping  with  the  festival’s  preparation  that  was  supposed  to  take  place  the  following  night.  

however  ,  no  matter  for  how  long  she  walked  ,  her  thoughts  would  always  return  to  that  flower.  as  she  came  face  to  face  with  the  entrance  of  the  village  ,  setsuna  stopped  &  looked  down  at  the  bouquet  he  prepared  for  her.  purple  eyes  flickering  as  she  admired  the  beauty  of  each  flower  until  they  focused  on  the  one  she   couldn’t  stop  thinking  of.

“  it  also  stands  for  concealed  love..  does  it  not?  ”  she  asked  herself  ;  a  gentle  smile  began  to  form  on  her  face  &  her  cheeks  blushed  lightly  ,  bringing  the  flower  arrangement  closer  to  her  nose  to  smell  the  combination  they  made  &  tilted  her  face  down.  “  not  so  concealed  anymore  ,  is  it  ,  hisui?  ”  without  opening  her  eyes  ,  setsuna  let  out  a  soft  giggle  &  continued  her  walk.

for  the  time  being  ,  she  was  allowed  to  act  like  this  ,  could  she  not?  now  that  she  was  alone  without  eyes  to  see  her..  she  could  do  it  right?  express  her  feelings  &  be  honest  with  them..  just  for  a  little  while.

He could not be blamed for his mistake. It was an honest mistake, and anyone else could have made it just as easily. Their not ninja uniforms were the not same colors (close enough, right?), for god's sake! Weren’t the demon slayers supposed to be dressed like power rangers-- all wearing different drastically colored uniforms so that people did not need to remember their actual names? He could just call them “pink ninja”, “gold ninja” , “green ninja”, rather than committing to memory their first names--and everything would be fine. 

Alas, unfortunately, that was not the case; Everything was not fine. Kohaku’s nephew looked almost like Kohaku himself--if you’re really squinting, that is--from the backside. By the time Bankotsu got a clear look at the young boy, it was too late; He had already called out to the demon slayer using the wrong name, “Kohaku!”. Fortunately, Bankotsu never felt guilty for his own actions, so he did not consider the fact that people tended to take slight offense--or sometimes even more offense--when you get their name wrong, and failed to apologize. 

“Oh?” Bankotsu quirked an eyebrow, “You’re not Kohaku.”

the monk shakes his head, laughs, and tries not to let a tear slide down his cheek. how did they raise such a perfect son? a hand rests on familiar dark hair. it resembles sango so much, and it makes miroku smile even more. he’s so proud of the man that hisui is becoming. “hisui, i’ll only be gone a few hours to visit a nearby village that is need of an exorcism. i’ll return before dinner.” 

there’s a ‘boop’ on his son’s nose. kagome coined the term, though miroku will never understand it’s true meaning, before miroku lifts hisui into his arms and holds him at his side in a tight embrace. “can i count on you to look after your mother and sisters while i am away?”
