At Zierikzee we found this roaring buoy (brulboei). A “brulboei” is a buoy that has an internal system which uses movement of the waves to push air through an internal horn. A low tone is then produced, which warned ships of its presence and the proximity of the coastline. This buoy is as produced in 1965 and floated near the port of Vlissingen near Oostgat. The buoy’s code of recognition therefore is OG5. It is now placed in Zierikzee near windmill “Den Haas” which can be seen in the background of this photo.
