IT TOOK ME A MOMENT YO UNDERSTAND THE URL
Yoo
Fun fact: vikramaditya of ujjain (a guy who didn't actually exist, just featured in a whole buncha stories) is said to be the founder of my hometown. He apparently constructed the fort here for his older self-exiled brother to live . The guy declared to be said brother (bharthrihari, writer of the nitishatakam, among other things) actually lived somewhere totally different his whole life in a totally different span of time from when the story claims.

One of my perennial probably-never-gonna-do-it ideas for a tabletop RPG is... well, okay, have you ever heard of Chronica Feudalis? It's a tabletop RPG set in 12th Century England, except its central conceit is that it's actually from 12th Century England, in an alternative history in which tabletop roleplaying games were invented during the 12th Century rather than the 20th. The text is written entirely in character as a medieval English monk, with commentary by the contemporary editor who ostensibly translated it from the original Middle English.
Anyway, if I ever find the time to perform the historical research to properly do it justice, some day I want to write a Prohibition era hidden-world science fiction game (i.e., a superficially realistic setting with the science-fictional elements forming a "secret world" within the ostensibly mundane milieu), presented as a game written during the actual 1920s in an alternative history in which tabletop roleplaying games were invented and popularised by H G Wells.

SPARK
this is. about the dialogue between Bonifacio and Rizal, the impact that one had on the other, the way Rizal's novels could spark desire for freedom like a wildfire that will not be tamed. there's an element of 'I would have gone through life half asleep if I never met you,' to it. the linked tragedies, the characters from the novels themselves seem to echo forward onto Bonifacio and Rizal in their own way as well.

additionally! the illustrated panel of Ibarra and Elias! it's a combination of a few things; them in Noli, but it's combining the character trajectory Ibarra/Simoun has gone on with El Filibusterismo (hence. the flames. dude said I came here to burn shit to the ground, and damn, it was a speech.) like. do you see the similarities between Bonifacio and Rizal in this because I cannot stop thinking about it.

hello! i'm an amateur/aspiring artist who enjoys your work a lot :D i was wondering where you get references for fashion in your medieval/arthuriana pieces?
museums! a lot have online collections to look at: the met is my go to a lot of the time, and the worcester art museum has the higgins armory collection currently. movies, shows, comics, if they have a costume aesthetic I really enjoy. dover publication has a couple of books collecting medieval fashion over the centuries I like to flip through.
nc wyeth's medieval illustrations, arthur rackham, and john william waterhouse too. medieval tapestries and manuscripts. 13th-16th italian fashion & art. lately I've been playing more with 4th-~11th century roman/byzantine influences! renfaire/medieval reeactment photos are a great visual resource too.
claire hummel's historical fashion resource doc is an excellent starting point and resource, additionally this collection of illustrators.

Frev Halloween I. 🦇
Tumblr media
As we are getting into the spooky season, I remembered @robespapier 's great idea to do a Frev Community Halloween event .
I thought the concept was super fun, so I wrote a little something. French Revolution meets Mary Shelley's Frankenstein in a way, just with more blood and less electricity. It's only a start, but I'll do my best to keep at it.
Hope you enjoy & I wish everyone a great start of the Halloween season!

There is "my family doesn't understand my dissertation"
And then there is my brother suggesting I could help with a project (on youtube) focusing on the Third Reich and the Second World War because it "reminded me of your research"
I work on nineteenth-century Central and Southern Europe.....

when louis threw the blood at the stolen painting, he also should have done that to marius' ugly painting or set it on fire
the thing about that scene is that I think it isn’t any coincidence that he nearly gets armand in the head when he tosses the bowl violently. louis is really upset about the fact that armand facilitated his daughter’s murder. but I agree with the sentiment that he feels protective of armand - I just think the show didn’t go those places because they intend to tackle armand’s history later and they didn’t want to detract from louis’s and claudia’s story. besides if the museum scene was any indication armand has very complicated feelings about his maker so he might have had as much a hand in its placement in the dining room as louis who seems interested in collecting art and understanding vampire history. sorry I made this post more serious than you probably meant it to be.
