What do you get out of this arithmetic task?
So I get 14 and not 1.
(13 + 4) x 2 - 6 / 2 = 14
How does he get 1? Or is that a metaphor? 😵💫

Hunter x Hunter 405 is probably the best chapter of this batch so far.
(commentary incoming)
The whole Hisoka monologue is just so good. It also reinforces Hisoka's actual obsession. A lot of people seem to misinterpret Hisoka as someone with a "fetish for powerful people". This is not completely wrong, but it is inaccurate. Hisoka's actual fetish comes from a power fantasy. It's not powerful people what turns him on: it is the fact that he will be stronger, he will defeat them. And not only that, he will destroy them. He has to come at top. That's why, when he fights Kastro, he isn't satisfied by only beating him: he has to break his mind down, killing him mentally before he kills him physically. It is also something "romantic" in his mind. He doesn't just fight these people: he forms a bond of them before destroying them. He was very fond of Gon, Machi and Chrollo, and not just on a "they're strong; I wanna destroy them" level. That's also why he killed Shalnark and Kortopi after Chrollo beat him. His ego-driven power fantasy was shattered. His bruised ego made him petty, because he is a deeply childish person.
Also, fun fact. The thing Hisoka's dancing with looks like the weird toy/trap/magical beast seen in chapter 4. Likely a coincidence as it is just a very simple design.
Then we get the confirmation of the "Bonolenov is Hisoka" theory, which I did not expect. I talked a lot about this theory and people always treated me like crazy (although I must admit that I believed the "Chrollo is Hisoka" more than this one).
The "another fake?" line is weird, though. Is it a mistranslation or is he actually implying that this second Hisoka isn't Hisoka either? It doesn't seem realistic. Although imagine we had a situation where Bonolenov and Illumi are both transformed into Hisoka and Hisoka is transformed into Illumi. Very contrived. But it'd be hilarious.
Just as a fun fact, I know Bonolenov's abilities might look inconsistent, but they're not. In the Chimera Ant Arc, his hatsu allows him to summon a small replica of the planet Jupiter to crash his opponent. Now, he can transform with it. That's because Metamorphose is a reference to Ovid's Metamorphosis!
Then we get to the Lisnorth scene.
This guy is actually the same dude that was responsible of Sarasa's death.
We can now confirm that they did get revenge. It seems that Togashi's put this here to create a parallelism between the Troupe's revenge against Lisnorth back then and their revenge against Hisoka in the present.
We also got more Heil-Ly and The Troupe in this chapter, and Morena's "Joker" is mentioned.
So hyped for whatever Togashi is cooking with this.

Hunter x Hunter: Black voice part 5? 6?
i give up i dont know how shalnarks antenna work.
i just binge read the manga last night and i have not the damndest clue how he gets that shit back.
we dont see him use them back to back at any point by himself. so theres reason to assume that he goes back and gets them. his ass dont gotta worry about leaving fingerprints or dna behind bcs hes off the record.
one of the many benefits of living in meteor city 👍
but in chrollos fight vs hisoka.
first of all the antenna change form. in Chrollo's hand they turn into rounded pins with angel wings.
we see here (according to my handy dandy diagrams-) that they both appear CANONICALLY.
chrollo has little angel wings. and shal has little bat wings.
why tho.
it heavily implies that the antenna are then conjured and take a form towards the user's preference. idfk how or why this is even a thing because it was shal who pointed out that if you strip a manipulator of their tools, he may as well be powerless.
plus hisoka says this. so they are definitely able to either be dematerialized or recalled immediately. (if they are conjured they would disappear automatically because chrollo deactivated the ability)
it could tie into additional conditions?
because that's an ability that requires crossing into other nen categories which spends a lot of aura (assuming shal isn't multiclassed into a specialist since. that is possible) (COUGH kurta shal COUGH).
ON TOP OF THAT. since the antenna are being separated from his body, that would mean he's using emitter techniques as well. he's transmitting aura across long distances, that is emitting.
and like we see with kastro, mastering another nen ability before your primary, or even in tandem with your primary, can 'fill up your memory' or in this case, over-spend your output and limit your natural class.
however, that isn't true for shalnark because he is maximizing his output by completely overriding someone's autonomy to the point of "behave normally". and he can do this with a maximum of two people. which is a lot! and he has the option (presumably) to release them from his control later on.
because adding a condition like "my puppets will always die when i relinquish control" will increase his output like 20 fold like we see with Illumi.
so this could mean two things:
shalnark is CONJURING the antenna but only at the beginning of fights and then going back to retrieve them so that he doesn't have to spend additional aura.
shalnark is EMITTING the antenna to and from him. it would weakly explain why they change shape based on who's holding them since their appearance would then be based on the aura of the individual. but it would make more sense since he's got 80% efficiency instead of 60%.
going with option 2. that means hisoka did destroy one of shal's two antenna here. he can never get that back. it could also lend to the idea that chrollo got the second antenna destroyed in the final explosion as well.
chrollo later apologizes to shal explaining that he had the phone but not the antenna and shal says it's fine. because he "doesn't need them right now" and im. sir what do you mean. sir.
I have the start of a theory that goes something like, his ability was originally kind of like illumi with several targets at a time with less complex commands. maybe even going so far as to lock them in a single location, sacrificing mobility for autonomy.
for his needs, that would be good enough. simply taking over a few key personnel and having them poison the pool of information is very him.
so he'd start with like 8 or 10 antenna and issue one or two complex commands relating to how the target "normally" behaves .
but then somewhere down the line he realizes he can control autonomy *and* behavior simultaneously. it just depends on him. and with his crazy amount of aura he might as well. he's got nothing else to lose.
so he puts a restriction on his ability that says he can't summon more than two antenna at a time and by cutting down the number of people he can control, he gets an increase in quality.
black voice confuses me. togashi explain.
this is a certified nen nerd post. and i am still confused.
this explains NOTHING.

Togashi's "interview" with Jump Ryu magazine & DVD 2016
i found this information and translation from the hxh fandom site - https://hunterxhunter.fandom.com/wiki/User_blog:MrGenial11/Jump_Ryu_Vol.21:_Yoshihiro_Togashi
it’s long so i’m rephrasing and only sharing the Hunter x Hunter stuff & some Togashi facts i found interesting (and y’all too probably) so :
When Togashi was in junior high school, he was fully attracted to Shōjo manga (girls manga) such as Mineo Maya's manga. (Mineo Maya is known for creating LGBT ((shōnen-ai/gay)) manga)
Togashi read manga like "Urusei Yatsura" and learned how to attract female audience.
Although Togashi’s favorite manga genre is Shōnen, he thinks he's suitable for Shōjo manga.
Togashi's first manga serialization was a romantic comedy, Ten de Shōwaru Cupid. Afterwards, he began Yu Yu Hakusho. After YYH, Togashi wanted to create manga that WOULDN'T be popular to show various aspects of his personality as mangaka to his audience. He then created Level E.
After Level E, Togashi began Hunter x Hunter. He changes his style in each arc so his audience can be surprised. Togashi loves surprising his audience.
Togashi thinks characters are sometimes more important than the story itself.
The Chimera Ant arc ended differently than Togashi first expected.
He creates simulations of the characters and how they will talk with each other and take an action in situations. This allows his audience to feel as if his characters really exist.
Togashi drew his characters acting unexpectedly in desperate situations when they encountered someone accidentally. For example, the encounter between Morel and Shaiapouf, or Killua and Meleoron.
Togashi has been attracted to the dirty side of manga rather than beautiful side ever since he was a junior high school student. (whatever that means..)
Togashi drew Yu Yu Hakusho's art style impressively and Level E realistically. In Hunter x Hunter, he avoids using screentones as much as possible.
Togashi considers the manuscripts of Hisoka and Kastro's fight as "bad quality" . He said that the internet fandom was angry and embarrassed with the chapter at that time. (so he DOES look at fanforums. that's no good)
"Togashi-sensei is very gentle. He remembers what editors said in the past" (a quote from one of his editors)
"Togashi resembles Gon/Ging Freecss in terms of personality" (another quote from his editor) (the hunterpedia page said “Gin” so idk if the translator misspelled “Gon” or forgot the last “g” in “Ging” 😺 i see both tbh)
Togashi scolded an editor only once when they slightly changed a few words in the manga without permission.
Togashi is very confident in his words being interesting. He chooses his words and sticks with them, not letting anyone change them. He is very selective and peculiar about the words he uses. (hm this makes me think of the lines “ja nakya dame nan da”/“shika inai” , “dajina”/“kichō” , “shinjū” , ect.)(dw i’m making a post explaining those lines later)
Togashi's message to mangaka beginners: "Keep in mind the audience. Make every effort to go beyond their expectations.”
#so yeah togashi is a pretty cool dude#he confidently talks about being into shojo and lgbt bl manga#as he should#didn’t wanna make this about killugon… but i am#killugon#killugon propaganda

Nen Talk #1 Heaven's Arena
So, a few months back I thought writing up something to highlight how Hunter x Hunter uses it's power system less for creating interesting action set pieces and more for fleshing out the stories of characters. I kinda neglected this because of work, but I finally have a more consistent schedule with free time, so I want to start going through it, starting off with the four minor characters we meet at Heaven's Arena.
So, this is an unfortunate batch to start on because Togashi was just getting his feel for Nen as a system, so a lot of these characters feel like they exist for their narrative purpose of teaching Gon and Killua first, with everything being secondary. There are some things that I do like, though. Nen being used to compensate for a disability is very cool, especially with the running theme that Nen is fueled by desire or potentially even greed. If I had my arm blown off by some sadistic loser, yeah my desire to get it back would be pretty strong and probably end up coloring what my Nen would take form as. The problem is just that this is done in a much more interesting way later in the series and two of these three disability compensation abilities do nothing besides that - compensate for a disability. The exception is Gido with his Battle Waltz, Shotgun Blues and Tornado Top. Gido is a nothing character, but the running theme of music with these imply that he was a lover of music before getting wrapped up in the world of Nen, maybe even a dancer to make his current state more tragic. That's the slightest bit of flavor, but I appreciate it. These
Kastro does not have one of these nen abilities based on a disability, but I grouped him with him because there isn't a TON to say about him on his own. Kastro has the ability to create a copy of himself. In my opinion, we can learn a few things from this. The first is that Kastro, while powerful, is incredibly uncreative. After getting humiliated by Hisoka, his only answer for how to beat him was to just have two Kastros. It also shows a lack of faith in his natural talent in enhancement. We see from Gon's later fight with Hisoka that there is a lot that someone with this monster strength can do against Hisoka who mainly fights with tricks. If you have the power to do that, you'd much rather want to do that instead of trying to out-trick Hisoka. The last thing is that while it could be said that he makes a copy of himself, it wouldn't be incorrect to say that he makes a doppelgänger. An alternate form of himself that will always live in the shadows just as he lives in Hisoka's shadow. Or perhaps that's giving this more credit than it's due. Anyways, these goobers are just the preamble for me to begin talking about characters who actually matter like Hisoka.

Hunter x Hunter for the fandom ask meme
i’m not all the way through yet so i’m just basing this on being partway through the ants arc! also i’m on my phone so formatting is probably fucked
the first character i ever fell in love with: gon i think? extremely earnest protagonist isn’t usually my type but character who is oblivious and doesn’t get fucked over by it bc of how powerful they are is my favorite and he did that a lot in the beginning. also foiling bad guys by being too nice.
a character that i used to love/like, but now do not: the closest i can think of is hisoka? i still love him but he’s. i would really prefer if he didn’t get horny about children but sometimes anime is just like that
a ship that i used to love/like, but now do not: i can’t think of anything? i am only ever adding more ships to my collection
my ultimate favorite character™: killua of course because i’m predictable. he’s sad!! and he’s learning that the world can have joy and love!!!
• prettiest character: there are so many banger character designs in this show is the thing. the first to mind was kurapika but there’s also chrollo and kastro. and of course hisoka.
• my most hated character: killua’s brother who is a fatphobic joke about being mean and eating food. my love to hate is definitely illumi.
my OTP: just the obvious gon and killua, and leorio and kurapika. i refuse to choose one over the other.
my NOTP: uh. hisoka/most people?? besides illumi i just don’t want to inflict that creep on anyone.
favorite episode: this is hard because i’ve been bingeing it so it all just runs together but the little mini arc at zoldyck mansion was incredible. i love canary and seeing killua’s family and how fucked up it all is
saddest death: i know he’s not 100% dead but kite was devastating
favorite season: greed island ig? i didn’t like it at first but ended up loving it. especially dodgeball.
least favorite season: heaven’s arena arc. i still liked it but it felt a little slow and the stakes weren’t super interesting to me.
character that everyone else in the fandom loves, but i hate: i don’t really know the fandom takes but it doesn’t feel like i hate anyone controversial?
my 'you're piece of trash, but you're still a fave' fave: hisoka. hate that guy <3
my 'beautiful cinnamon roll who deserves better than this' fave: i was going to say gon but he loves it actually so kurapika. he definitely deserves better, rooting for you king
my this ship is wrong, nasty, and makes me want to cleanse my soul, but i still love it' ship: i hate the like. wording and tone of this but after the last media club plus episode it’s tonpa/leorio lmao they deserve each other
my 'they're kind of cute, and i lowkey ship them, but i'm not too invested' ship: kurapika and melody. i think i mostly love them as friends but korapika deserves a polycule tbh

Hisoka and Illumi are among the strongest characters in Hunter X Hunter. They are both good friends and a lot of us speculate as to who is the stronger among the two. Now, we have seen Hisoka fight many times in the anime and Illumi has yet to show his true potential. They are both considered to be one the same level as fighters even thought we haven't really seen Illumi fight yet. Hisoka https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2mZ4-jd6Fw Hisoka is a transmitter who is an extremely skilled nen user. He uses bungee gum and cards against his opponent. He is extremely tactful and clever in his fighting style however, one could say that he does get careless sometimes like in his fight against Chrollo and Kastro. Kastro was able to cut Hisoka's arms but lost the fight. Hisoka could have easily avoided getting his arms cut had he wanted. Hisoka lost his battle against Chrollo. Chrollo was too overpowered and was using all the Phantom Troupe member's nen techniques to beat him. Hisoka is quite talented and was able to catch Togari's blades without any practice. Togari took over half a year to do so. Hisoka has incredible hand to hand combat skills, speed and is quite smart as a person too. After his fight with Chrollo, Hisoka gets much stronger too. He is able to kill Shalnark and Kortopi within no time. Post death nen makes the user stronger than before. Thus, Hisoka is even more powerful than before. Illumi https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9vMOqU-0SE Illumi is the eldest son of Silva Zoldyck. He is a manipulator and uses needles to control people just like puppets. The controlled people follow his orders until they die. Apart from that, Illumi is a great assassin since he is a part of the Zoldyck family. He is resistant to poison and has high tolerance to pain. He seems unaffected after his arm is broken by Gon. Illumi has great speed and hand to hand combat skills too. We see some of his skills in the movie 'Phantom Rouge' against Gon. He is a puppet, thus his power shown in the movie is much less than his actual strength in the anime. However, that does give us a good idea of how strong he is. Considering that he is trained by Silva or Zeno or both, I believe he is very strong. Hisoka rates Illumi's power at 95. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCGbtrtOo-A Now, Hisoka did rate Illumi's power at 95(during the election Arc when Illumi appears as Gitterackur) which a lot of people feel is 5 points below Hisoka's supposed power level of 100. Considering that Illumi might be weaker than Hisoka. A lot of people believe Hisoka is overestimating himself which might be possible. Perhaps, Illumi was hiding his true strength. In the Gitterackur form, it could be that Illumi might be slightly less strong than his true form. However, Illumi does not really feel threatened by Hisoka considering that he knows Hisoka likes to challenge strong opponents like him. Hisoka does warn Illumi to not kill Gon or else he would have to face him in a battle. Illumi is wary of strong people and wanted to finish off Gon as soon as possible. Illumi agrees to not killing Gon. Now, one could say that Illumi is sensible and does not pick up fights recklessly like Hisoka does. Illumi fights only when it is necessary to do so. He threatened to kill Hisoka when Hisoka asked him about killing Killua. So, both the fighters are pretty much at the same level. Who would win in a fight? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGRvzppWvo0 It depends on a lot of factors. For example, if it is a crowded area, then Illumi would have huge advantage using people as weapons against Hisoka. We saw how Hisoka lost to Chrollo in a similar situation. However, if it is place with no people and just the two of them, then Hisoka would have an advantage. It is hard to tell how Illumi would win the fight in such a scenario. If we consider Hisoka after his fight with Chrollo, then Hisoka would very likely win since he is much stronger now. If we consider him before his fight with Chrollo, then it is quite hard to predict.
Considering Hisoka has more experience in one on one combat than Illumi (although we don't know that for sure too), I think Hisoka would most likely win the fight against Illumi.

I wrote a really long thing about my opinions on the different adaptations of Hunter x Hunter for my personal Facebook
Since I spent like an hour on it and realized no one was going to read it, I decided I should probably post it somewhere else that no one would read it as well
I used to post my stupid art opinions on Tumblr a lot, before I realized that they were stupid and nothing I said made sense
Also I have, like, two friends now, who listen to what I have to say, which is something that I didn't have before. Now it seems like a horrible idea to post my bad takes on my COMPANY'S social media, because I can just say dumb shit to my friends in private instead of screaming nonsense into the void until somebody inevitably ratios me when I say something stupid enough
Anyway here's this dumb word vomit
-----
So far the 1999 Hunter Hunter has been immeasurably better than 2011. Absolutely no contest, completely blows the later version out of the water
except in one regard
Having seen both versions, I think they kind of weren't able to do Heaven's Arena Justice in the original show.
Aside from the most obvious problem, that the hisoka vs kastro fight is completely removed in the original adaptation, 1999's more dark, lethargic and Atmospheric Vibe doesn't really mix well with the fun tournament Arc it's trying to adapt. It kind of just ends up being boring. which is a real shame
The 2011 version has a lot of problems of it's own in the heavens arena section but it gets the tone right. the biggest problem in 2011 being that the show seems unwilling to animate a good fight scene for most of the first 76 episodes. so the fights, the main things that happen during a tournament arc, are really underwhelming.
It kind of seems like Madhouse was so dead set on keeping the characters on model at all times that they had trouble moving them around too much, or having them do anything exciting at all? (until the Chimera ant Arc, when the show gets a lot more High effort). That's just a theory though, I have no idea why 2011's animation is so underwhelming for the first 76 episodes. (The less charitable interpretation is that maybe they just decided not to put any effort in until the Chimera ant arc, because that was the only section they actually WANTED to do, and they were doing the rest of the show out of obligation)
Another problem with 2011 is that the scenes where the characters are introducing the magic system to the audience for the first time are really half-assed, boringly staged with flat angles and no dynamic cinematography or lighting. I should be feeling wonder and amazement but instead I'm just looking at a cup in a boring hotel room while standard OST track 3 plays for the fifth time this episode. So much wonder, much Whimsy
But in spite of those problems, the more adventurous, upbeat and exciting tone of the 2011 version matches this particular story a little bit better then the dreary berserk-like tone of the previous adaptation. Madhouse didn't put anywhere near as much effort in as Nippon Animation did,
( outside of gon vs hisoka there's almost no good great fight animation. the scenes of gon fighting the guy with the dreidels are especially bad, especially in comparison to shows like Naruto Shippuden that regularly have exhilarating fights, with the trade off being that the higher frame rate means that they can't always keep the characters on model )
but at least it's more fun to watch and in the end that's the most important thing
(except for the agonizing nen explanation scenes in flatly lit hotel rooms, which are just unbearably bad in 2011)
Also since I'll probably never have another opportunity to bring this up
While I'm complaining about the 2011 version of Hunter x Hunter
Why is it so horny?
Specifically, why is there so much fan service?
The 1999 version isn't like that, the manga isn't like that from what I've seen, but any time there's a female character on screen madhouse animate jiggle physics for no reason
When chairman and Menchi are having a conversation in the 2011 version, for absolutely no reason they decided to add a moment where the chairman stops listening to her and just stares at her tits. As far as I can tell that doesn't happen in any other version
When stuff like that happens it really just kind of feels like they were bored with the show that they were making.
I'm sorry you didn't like making this show, I also wish somebody else had done it because then maybe it would have turned out good 😕 (well it does get good, almost 100 episodes in)
The pre-chimera-arc good parts of the madhouse Hunter x Hunter are the parts where Togahi's storytelling is so good that it shines through the lackluster adaptation. which to me seems like the ultimate proof that they did a shit job. Since the average anime adaptation is very faithful to the source material, the one job that the adaptation is supposed to fulfill is to elevate the story through movement, cinematography, music, voice acting, and editing. Madhouse doesn't do that until the final Arc, up until that point it's just going through the motions, in cartoon form.

Ok so now that Hunter x Hunter has started to pick back up and Togashi has gotten back to ripping our hearts out and shooting us down like dogs while telling us to read his manga (which we will), I wanted to talk about the significant number of parallels between aspects of Yu Yu Hakusho and parts of Hunter x Hunter that show how much Togashi laid the groundwork for HXH in YYH. As well as how he improved and revised many aspects of his previous work.
Originally, I was going to make this one whole post, but because of how much I wrote in this one, I figured I would just make it multiple parts.
Spoilers for HXH and YYH
Part 1: The Power Systems and their similarities/differences, and how Togashi demonstrates Limits
Nen and Spirit Energy are both very similar in multiple ways. For example, both have very similar sources, with Spirit Energy being something all humans have, and Nen being something all beings have.
Now then, what I want to talk about is the differences between them first.
Spirit Energy is something everyone can use, but unlike Nen, signature techniques are just that, techniques. For example, let's take a look at one of the best examples of this and wasted potential: Rando
Rando is a demon whose whole thing is that he steals techniques, but not like Chrollo(Trust me, we will get into Chrollo), but in that he just learns them. To put it in a way that makes sense, Spirit Energy is malleable, anyone who has Spirit Energy (or Demon Energy) can replicate and learn other techniques with the only setback being that you would run the risk of not mastering them and not knowing how to use them all efficiently like Rando did.
Unlike another character who is a master with Spirit Energy without overextending themselves: Genkai
Despite knowing nowhere near as many techniques as Rando, Genkai is a much better fighter than him, able to use her techniques in nearly every situation in ways that allow her to fight on a level that is nearly unbeatable, or at least was before she gave away the majority of her power to Yusuke, but even then she was able to go toe-to-toe with Shishiwakamaru, a demon who had the ability to summon hundreds of dead souls to attack indiscriminately.
Genkai is a master of Spirit Energy, even if she doesn't have as much power as the rest of the main characters.
Meanwhile let's take a look at a Nen User from Hunter x Hunter, a character you may or may not know (/j): Hisoka
Now setting aside Hisoka's.... """tendencies""", when it comes to his proficiency in Nen, he's one of the best in the series, with his Nen Type being Transmutation, which would make his nen chart look something like this
Now then, his Main Nen Ability is known as Bungee Gum, which contains the properties of Rubber and Gum, which is known. He Transmutes his Aura into an elastic and stretchy material which he can stick onto anything, and can do multiple things such as catch objects, immobilize opponents, or create flail-like weapons to swing around with. That is Hisoka's Hatsu, his personal expression of Nen. That is his main weapon until the day he dies, and cannot be changed as far as we know.
But that doesn't mean he can't do things that aren't too far from Transmutation, such as Conjuration, which he exemplifies with Texture Surprise, a technique which allows him to create images and textures on top of flat surfaces, such as paper, and can change its appearance. He uses this technique in creating fake tattoos or even fake skin all over his body to make himself look normal, when really he looks like this
So needless to say, Hisoka is an extremely adept Nen user. But the fact is, like everyone else, he has to stay in his lane, or else he'll end up like another Nen User in the series: Kastro
Kastro is an Enhancer, he was born one, which means that his potential is limited to that of an Enhancer's, which looks like this
According to an extremely talented Nen Teacher: Wing, Kastro could have been a master of a technique that most Enhancers can use, the Tiger Bite Fist, which may have helped him achieve his goal... But instead of developing his Hatsu and enhancement abilities he chose to use a technique that was completely incompatible with his own: The Double Technique.
The Double Technique is fairly self-explanatory, you make a double of yourself out of Nen, and manipulate its actions into fighting alongside you. It's an amazing technique, but the fact of the matter is that for a majority of Nen Users, it's one that is either lopsided, or just more trouble than it's worth, because it is a combination of Manipulation and Conjuration. The only type of Nen User that it would work perfectly for is a Specialist, which are one in a million in the world of Hunter x Hunter, and even then it requires an extremely high amount of focus due to the amount of precision the management of an entire second body requires, because it is not an automated body, or a clone of your mind, you have to use Manipulation Nen in order to make it do anything, and that is why Kastro was doomed when he tried to make it work.
Because of his status as an Enhancer, while Kastro technically has an equal amount of proficiency in Conjuration and Manipulation Nen, he is restricted to mainly lower-level techniques, or he has to use every bit of his Nen if he wants to even touch higher level techniques of those types, which is what he does with the Double Technique, and because of it, he dies.
In both series, Togashi demonstrated the consequences of overreaching when it comes to the amount you can do, and the consequences of trying to do more than what you can handle, but he demonstrated it in Hunter x Hunter in a much more detailed way than Yu Yu Hakusho, not to discredit Yu Yu Hakusho, as it also does a swell job of it. But yeah, that's all I wanted to say about the power system for now.
For Part 2, I'll be discussing the differences between the dynamics of the Main 4 in each show, With Yu Yu Hakusho having Yusuke, Kuwabara, Kurama, and Hiei, and Hunter x Hunter having Gon, Killua, Kurapika, and Leorio
