I just saw your post, I’ve been absent from tumblr the last few days. What are your favorite headcanons about Slider, Mav and/or Slimav? (You don’t have to do all three-just whatever tickles your fancy)

Hii!! Thank you for the ask!! In fact, you are the first person to appear in my inbox and pardon my overenthusiasm because that meant a lot! I’m recovering day by day. Haven’t been able to write a substantial amount, but I’m trying! I wholeheartedly appreciate your kind words! 🥹

Out of all the somewhat popular headcannons I’ve seen, I suppose Rick Rossovich himself saying Slider is a pleaser is by far my favorite. Like—I can totally see that. I can see he is just…tender at heart, and his whole jokester attitude has the undertone of a caring, soft side of his. I also base my fics on the idea that Slider loves cooking and his love language is food which is just…something else. I was so surprised to know that Kronk, one of my favorite Disney villains (?) growing up, was created based on Slider! Tender himbo attraction runs deep I guess

And now that I’m talking about headcannons, sorry if it doesn’t really fit your original ask, but here are some random assemblies of my own headcannons about Sli, Mav, and Slimav!! Sorry the list is kinda long—had so much fun responding to the ask and finally getting to dump all the small things I think about them! 😫🫶

• Slider is the oldest child, while Maverick is an only child. Slider is usually the one to back down first in fights, and Maverick is usually the one to apologize first.

• Slider is a Virgo (like Rick Rossovich is) and Maverick is a Leo.

• Slider is originally from Orange, California, around the Huntington Beach area (where a lot of my favorite punk bands are from), but moved to Staten Island, New York to live with his nana when he was in middle school.

• Maverick is pansexual, and Slider is gay.

• Slider peels potatoes before boiling them, while Maverick just dunks them straight into the pot. Maverick once teased him for being delicate for his looks, and Slider just shrugged and told him that he just cared about the “proper” way of cooking.

• They both can’t draw for shit. They always insist the other is worse, though.

• Slider’s biggest fear is betraying others, and Maverick’s is abandonment.

• They definitely have tried to switch their perfumes. Let’s just say it didn’t really go well. Cute if Maverick’s cologne with marine notes smells like a sharp, synthetic, windex type of mess on Sli (when on his skin, it smells of something young and dangerous) and Sli’s woody cologne smells like a burned moss with a tinge of heavy incense and funerals and mothballs (when he smells nothing but a cozy, warm, welcoming scent when it’s on his skin)

• Slider’s all time favorite album is The Cars (self-titled).

• Maverick’s all time favorite album is Next Position Please by Cheap Trick—trust me, “I Can’t Take It” and “You Say Jump” is just…Maverick. The smooth awkwardness with a hint of assertiveness and dominance is just so on point!! Go Pete go!! Go and cage your love in your arms to devour him with your hungry fangs goddamn!!!

• Slider’s “sad boy hour” album is Power Corruption and Lies by New Order. (And he has a shirt from their tour, which actually makes a brief appearance in the ch. 4 of Just What I Needed. Small detail much! I know! “Age of Consent” captures how much a pleaser Slider can naturally be, and “5 8 6” is underrated yet a perfect representation of early/pre-Slimav.)

• Slider sings while driving, even to the songs Maverick has randomly chosen on the AUX.

• They are both very messy planners when it comes to traveling.

• Slider’s enneagram is 2w3, and Maverick is a 8w7. Like I said, Slider is a pleaser—that appears to be a stand-offish jokester at first! And Maverick? Yeah, let’s just say, a maverick

• They are about 3-4 years apart; my headcannon is Maverick was about 25 and Slider was about 28 in TG.

• Slider is of Eastern German origin; his nana and his mother emigrated to the US right after WW2. He speaks German fluently, but thinks he needs to learn formal and written aspects of the language.

• Maverick used to work at a Latino grocery store in high school and picked up some Spanish. He was a cherished chico among the aunties.

• Slider played baseball and was an ace pitcher up until he moved to his nana’s place. He then got into bodybuilding in high school. He still likes to watch the games, as well as soccer which he got into in the 1991 World Cup (wherein the legendary “World in Motion” by New Order was born. We are playing for England—En-g-land‼️‼️🗣️🗣️🗣️)

• Maverick was a track and field athlete and played sprints. Unlike Slider, he’s a motor sports fan through and through.

• Despite their differences in tastes in sports, they enjoy snuggling on the couch, cheering like a kid (mostly done by Sli) and talking shit about the play even though he doesn’t know the rules (mostly done by Mav).

Hoshi shared translations of the titles yesterday! So to fuel some hype, here's some speculation about what each part of the light novel will focus on.

Here's an index of existing fan translations of the two published light novels. I'd recommend reading them: they're short and enjoyable. Although a lot of the content has been covered or referenced by the mangas and Egoist Bible, there's some new trivia about your faves in there too like baby Isagi being able to predict the weather 🌦️

1. Niko Ikki: "Immersion"

I'm not a Niko stan (I don't dislike him! I just have other faves), so this is the hardest entry for me to conceptualise in terms of theme or story. If anyone with a better grasp on his character would like to chip in, be my guest!

Niko has the following key character traits:

➡️ he's the youngest of the characters introduced so far;

➡️he's something of an underdog;

➡️ he enjoy a particular rivalry with Isagi, as (in Isagi's words) they have the same eyes and brain;

➡️ Niko appears to be fairly introverted, enjoying games and anime/manga; and

➡️ A defining trait is his insecurity about his forehead.

Some further thoughts on what Niko's entry might feature:

🔵 "Immersion" may refer to how Niko loses himself in football: both in terms of how he goes unnoticed by his opponents and how involved he gets in the sport. That's my best guess! I'm stumped otherwise.

🔵 I anticipate there will be some rival or potential bully Niko has to overcome, using his wits and intelligence. Maybe he has to prove himself to a dismissive school football club?

🔵 His tactic early in Blue Lock is to use more physical players (such as Oikawa and Zantetsu) to score goals for his team, acting as the playmaker. The LN may elaborate on how he developed this strategy.

🔵 The forehead thing just has to be a teenage complex around acne or something, right? I don't think it's more serious than that, given how much the writer and mangaka joke about it (see: forehead kanji on the Vol 25 manga cover).

🔵 I don't think we'll be seeing Niko spotting mosquitos across the room... but the LN will likely comment on his good vision/spacial awareness also.

2. Kunigami Rensuke: "Rule"

Kunigami's light novel will be a prequel, same as all the others. While we won't get any hints about Wild Card (🥹) it's likely we'll learn about:

🟠 How his desire to become a football superhero came to be. The main manga suggests this came from him watching footballers on TV while young.

🟠 His family. Kunigami is a middle child, with two sisters. What's their family dynamic like? Does he get on with his sisters and parents?

▶️ A theory: being the middle child and only boy is one reason Kunigami goes by the saying, "fair and square". His parents enforced that message so their three children would get along!

🟠 Explanation for his personality traits. The LN might explore the rationale for his protective nature. Perhaps Kunigami was raised with the notion of looking out for his sisters, which extends to his friends and teammates in Blue Lock.

🟠 The LN will likely show how Kunigami fared as a striker in high school. Given how good he is starting out in Blue Lock, dude must have been a beast on his school team.

Overall, I'm praying Kunigami's entry is light-hearted. Our grumpy orange goes through enough angst in canon - he deserves some happiness before coming to Blue Lock 😭 I think the odds of this are actually pretty good, because if there's an angsty entry in this volume, then that's gonna be...

🟠 Lastly, the title (Rule) likely refers to his "fair and square" motto. Kunigami lives a very regimented life in Blue Lock (eat, train, play football, train some more, shower and sleep). Perhaps the focus of the LN will be how he developed that willpower and dedication.

3. Hiori Yo: "NEW GAME"

Hiori's LN entry is the easiest one to anticipate, since chapter 206 gave a fairly detailed account of his upbringing and family life.

"NEW GAME" is likely in reference to his enjoyment of video games (how these acted as a means of escape for him) as well as how Blue Lock represented a new life away from his overbearing parents.

Here are some of my expectations (sorry Hiori 💔) for his entry:

🔵 a retelling of the events of chapter 206, focussing on Hiori's injury and his discovery of his parents' discontent.

🔵 an exploration of the impact his pushy parents had on his personality and enjoyment of sports.

🔵 backstory about Hiori and Karasu's friendship/rivalry! For example, did Karasu ever target Hiori as the "weakest link" of a team? I'd be surprised if he doesn't show up - the Wanima twins appeared in Chigiri's novel, as did Sae in Rin's.

I'd love to hear people's thoughts about this! I'm looking forward to these getting a release, even if it'll be some time before I can actually read them. The illustrations alone are a treat - in the first two volumes, these were completed by Sannomiya-sensei, the mangaka for Episode Nagi.

Ok, Karma is a God. I love the quote from Wuthering Heights,

“You said I killed you-haunt me, then! [...] Be with me always-take any form-drive me mad! only do not leave me in this abyss, where I cannot find you!”

It’s so perfect to me because that is soooo Aemond wallowing in guilt in Harrenhal!! Lucerra herself embodies so much to Aemond, she’s the one he lost his eye to, the reason why he dedicated himself to being perfect. Then he ‘kills’ her and her supposed death completely unravels him. The fact that she’s alive means he has a chance at redemption, either dying at her hands and allowing her that justice, or to be forgiven by her. He hates her but he’s incomplete without her.

IT WILL COME BACK 🖤 Asking me to pick just one image is insane, but I was scrolling through my Pinterest board and I remembered there’s one picture that appears in all the headers for the chapters, The Rape of Proserpina:

It's a horrific image right? This young woman is being taken from her home and her family by the god of the underworld. I think it spoke to me for this fic as an expression of Aemond's possessiveness. His love for Jaya is tied to the idea that he can control her and influence her. In his mind, it is other people that separate them. The animosity between Rhaenyra and Alicent bleeding into their children, the competition between the factions of Dragon Bank, the fact that she defended Jace over Aemond. He wants a hold over her like no one else has. Aesthetically as well, I love the look of marble statues, I love how immersive and expressive they can be. And they have a sense of grandeur and ancientness (is that even a word?) which means they look perfect in a fic header or a moodboard hehe.

Can you believe I don’t have a playlist for August?? If I did, the first song would be Slowly by Susanne Sundfør. The working title for this fic was ‘I Know You’re Lonely Too’ which is a lyric from this song. There are so many lines I love in this but the chorus just really encapsulates the vibe I wanted for this,

“And you say it’s gonna last forever // We have different heartbeats // But all the same heartbreak // And I can feel it in the way you hold me… I know you’re lonely too.”

To me, this song feels like yearning and wanting to live in the moment even as you feel it slipping away.

OF COURSE! I'm excited too as you'll see in the essay that's about to follow 😅

As for the naming of the Main Story, TWST formats each dorm into Books/Episodes (i.e. the manga volumes are titled Episode of [Dorm]), and they release it by parts instead of all at once, so they go by chapters. So it just means Part 1 of Episode 7 (Diasomnia) with subsequent parts coming out a few weeks later!

also I think that someone on the twst team has mentioned before that Book 7 is not the end of the Main Story, so it's almost guaranteed that we'll get more characters in the future!

okay now a disclaimer: none of this is confirmed, this is just what my 3 braincells have come up with during the years of waiting for the actual Book to come out. I'm just getting this out there before the plot proves me completely wrong

Short version.

My theories on Diasomnia basically go like this: Silver is a hero-aligned character + He has a curse -> Lilia knows this and will try to break it even if it costs his own safety because hey that's his son -> Malleus will panic at the idea of losing the people he loves -> Overblot

Long version.

• Silver is a hero-aligned character: he's one of three light magic users alongside Rook and Kalim, who are based on the "good guys" of their respective movies. The symbol used to represent him in-game is a sword that looks like the one used to slain Maleficent. He also has similarities to Princess Aurora (attracting animals, being raised in the forest by fae.) As we have seen before, all the hero-aligned characters had a part in causing the overblots in their respective chapters because they followed the same path as their movie counterparts (the Sultan being controlled by Jafar, the Huntsman's betrayal to the Queen.)

However, the relationship between Silver and Malleus doesn't seem like it's bound to go sour at any moment, and it's far closer to the bond shared by their "Maleficent" counterparts rather than the animated "Sleeping Beauty." How could Silver cause the overblot? Read further down

• Silver is cursed: If we take a look at Sleeping Beauty, Maleficent cursed Aurora as a newborn and she had to be raised by the fairies so she could be safe while growing up. What we know about Silver so far is that 1. Lilia found him as a baby and decided to adopt him & 2. He suffers from some ailment that causes him to fall sleep all the time against his will.

Since the characters themselves do not have an explanation to this behavior (so far) it is likely that Silver was already under the effects of a curse when he was found and Lilia is aware of it (which might be why he decided to keep a human child in the middle of a forest instead of trying to give him to a human village.)

And thus, he might have been looking for a cure all this time (could be why he travelled so much leaving Silver on his own so often) and he found it recently maybe? And it somehow involves his own safety in exchange for Silver's, thus the cryptic conversation with Malleus back in Book 6 which originated those "Lilia is dying" theories. (He's part of the gacha pool, that man is NOT dying anytime soon dw.)

I concluded this from "Maleficent" and how the cure to Aurora's curse was the True Love's kiss, but instead of it coming from the Prince, the kiss that worked was from Maleficent herself since she came to feel a maternal love for Aurora after watching her grow up...So if Silver = Aurora then Lilia as his father could be part of the cure.

• What the curse entails (possibly): the sleepiness, a limited-time left to live if it's not broken soon, and the dreams themselves. However I do not have an answer as to who could've placed the curse...if there is a curse, it must be related to his identity before being adopted by Lilia

• Silver has seen Yuu in dreams: In the last part of chapter 6, Mickey recounts seeing a boy with silver hair and aurora coloured eyes in the dream room while Yuu was away. And while Mickey wasn't able to talk to him at the time, this still means that Silver is -so far- the only character capable of accessing the same dream room as Yuu and Mickey. Since (iirc) Mickey and Yuu have concluded that they are in different realms and that their only means of connection is through dreams, it's not too farfetched to believe that Silver might have seen MC in his dreams prior to them getting isekai'd into Twisted Wonderland at least once.

There's also Silver's line in one of the earlier PVs some time ago: "How strange, I feel as if I've met you before." Since he's known all of the Diasomnia boys pretty much all his life, this line has to be meant for MC. It was easy to brush it off as a simple reference to the "Once Upon a Dream" song before the reveal of the dream realm, but now I will firmly believe that there's a connection there until Chapter 7 comes out and disproves it.

There's still no explanation as to why MC has those strange dreams either, so this is the perfect moment for it.

• Malleus' overblot: from what we learned from Idia's ramblings about overblots previously, it seems that long term emotional distress is to blame for the OBs as much as the overuse of magic. And it just so happens that pretty much every single piece of information about Malleus we have confirms that he has been lonely most of his life, leaving him afraid of losing those whom he cares about. Namely the Diasomnia boys and now Yuu.

So what happens if two (or more) of the people he loves are in some sort of danger, which could leave him truly alone? A very sad, scared, and angry dragon. Bonus angst if his grandmother turns out to be the one to blame somehow.

• I truly feel like the narrative for Diasomnia will deal with elements of loss and grief considering that Idia is the one who's going to be helping this time. He has already experienced the pain of losing his brother, so he's the one who could understand Malleus the best...especially if his issues stem from losing his parents perhaps

A lot of my theories depend on Yana taking inspiration from "Maleficent," and I expect to be wrong on most of this once the actual story comes out tbh, but this is what I've imagined the plot to be like until now. I hope it made sense??? I wrote this at like 6 am after an all nighter 😅

6. favorite background/minor character?

everytime I hear “onward background character,” my mind automatically goes to Theo! he’s a nice innocent guy, and because he was the animator’s favorite, like…the fact that they adored him so much that they wanted him in the background of every scene is so funny, I love it! 😆

also have a soft spot for the deaf girl who signs that Ian “is cute” at the beginning of the film. I mean…she’s not wrong lol. anyway I actually caught that little detail the very THIRD time I watched Onward! I was innocently looking around the scene where Ian is about to enter his school, when suddenly out of nowhere I noticed it, paused the movie, replayed that part, and asked myself: “wait…is she doing sign? it looks like she’s doing sign!!” but I didn’t really know for sure...that was, until an article came out a few weeks later basically confirming it, so wouldn’t you it? I was right! 😲

and it’s funny: the only reason I really recognized that it was sign in the first place is because I actually live in a community where I see people doing sign language pretty much on a daily basis. I can’t do it personally…yet. but hey as long as I’m bringing it up! I’m actually going to be taking a beginners sign language course this semester! We’ll see how far I go in terms of being able to say “he’s cute” but I’m really looking forward to it!

“Carried Me with You” is an automatic favorite, I love that song! And Brandi Carlile! but I’m also gonna go the score route for this one… 

I say my favorite pieces are (in no particular order): Going on a Quest, New Ian, Led Us to Our Victory!, Two Teenage Elves, The Trust Bridge, and A Little Magic

there’s obviously others but I’m just gonna leave it at that for now 🎶

14. which deleted scene is your favorite?

The three I go back to the most are “Unstoppable” “Training” and “Sirens” and I think that’s because those are the scenes I would like to see past animatic form! but specifically because young Ian and Barley are so precious and adorable in unstoppable! 🥹 training is just so fun and enjoyable to watch 🤣 and sirens has our brothers plus Jenny facing some devious villains! Emphasis on VILLAINS!!! 😈

26. do you own the film on physical media?

Yes I do! just on DVD tho, no blu-ray or deluxe package or anything like that…I mostly go to Disney+ for it anyway, but yeah the DVD is just cool to have! 📀

29. do you think the film will ever join the treasure planet/atlantis club of disney films that become more loved later on?

I most certainly hope so!! Onward deserves more love all day everyday 💗

30. if you could, would you add to or change something about the film?

Overall I wouldn’t, I love it just the way it is! 😍

I guess one thing is I kinda wish the end credits were a little more exciting...

I understand that since this story is based on Dan, his brother, and the mystery of their father that that’s why it’s got a more subtle, serious tone to it. I just look at some of the more bold, colorful, and creative end credits other pixar movies have and the transitions for them as each person who did their part comes on screen and wish onward had something like that (next to having “Walt Disney Pictures Presents” and “a Pixar Animation Studios film” come up before the title…but whatever) 🎞

also mid credits scene I guess? those are always fun and is one last extra opportunity to make the audience laugh! or to tease something…
