i. feel like rambling about my hawkes. under a cut to spare y'all

so they're all pro-mage obviously because I can't uh. stomach a playthrough otherwise fjkdls but the way they are is different in a way that i think is interesting

Matt, my first Hawke, is a purple rogue who's pro-mage in a kinda. labrador retriever kinda way. he supports mages because so many people he loves are mages, why wouldn't he advocate for their freedom? there's not an argument in the world that could sway him because this belief isn't built on any sense of logic or right and wrong, it's built on love. when Anders asked him to distract Elthina he did so without question, and while the chantry boom scared the shit out of him of course he fights for the mages, and he trusts and supports Anders in everything

Oliver, my canon Hawke, is a red mage who's pro-mage in a selfish kinda way, but also in a "I don't trust any authority" kinda way. in the early game, this manifested as doing whatever the guard or templars asked of him, as a way to avoid suspicion. as time goes on, and especially due to Anders' influence, he starts to come off of that and by act 2 he's very openly, aggressively pro-mage. he is cross with Anders for lying to him and for refusing to divulge his plan, but he goes along with it anyway, and the most upsetting part of the chantry boom is realizing that Anders fully expected him to kill him, and why

(sidenote, Oliver's pro-templar actions in act 1 are a direct result of me wanting to get Carver to 100 friendship by the end of act 1. i did not succeed, but i got an interesting character out of it so y'know)

Ari, my current Hawke, is a blue warrior who's pro-mage because he has sat down and thought it through. he knows mages deserve freedom and equal rights and he will put his money where his mouth is -- to an extent. he doesn't support blood magic and he doesn't support abominations, and he knows that mages don't need the circle to prevent those because he had his father and bethany as examples. he's still early in act 1 so we'll see how his character progresses, but I know that he will romance Anders (and Isabela) and then, in the end, he will kill Anders, and he will see it as an act of mercy, the same as Aveline killing Wesley or Anders killing Karl

was watching a tiktok video of rev. oliver snow talking about how Jesus was kind of sassy and had good banter(1) and someone in his comments wrote something like "he literally invited all his friends to dinner just to start drama, Jesus was camp" and I've been CONSUMED by this thought ever since

(1) He made a really good comparison of the Bible and Shakespeare about how people tend to see both as something that's all Refined and Fancypants because they were written a long time ago but both literally have like, dick jokes. like there's humor and just Normal People Stuff because both the writers of the Bible and Shakespeare were just Normal Ass People trying to relate their stories to even Normaler Asser People which in itself is cool but I didn't want to distract from the main point of this post so enjoy this footnote??

his name is evan buckley but he goes by buck because there were like 4 other evans at the fire academy, so if you refer to him as evan it's kinda weird tbh, because who's evan? that's buck, we know him as buck, but sometimes his sister calls him evan and one time his friend did it in a specific situation, and his doctor and therapist call him evan too, and that's fine and normal, but his parents called him evan because "they don't like nicknames" and he specifically told them to call him buck because that's what his friends call him and it was both setting of a boundary with his parents and extending an olive branch to repair their relationship, but his boyfriend exclusively calls him evan and he says it in a really nice way too btw and if you read fic that talks about evan instead of buck you're reading tommy pov. what's not clicking.

everyones been asking me this. everytime i tell someone new im into dialtown, they always question me about the same thing! without fail! and so here it is:

WHAT I THINK EACH CHARACTER WOULD ORDER AT THE CHEESECAKE FACTORY

now why are they at the cheesecake factory? BECAUSE: in the dialtown universe, as we know, texas roadhouses were ERADICATED off the face of the earth due to health violations, and where else is norm gonna go for his birthday?

(most) everyone gets a DESSERT, DRINK, and MEAL in their order

HE ORDERS: the pumpkin pecan cheesecake (he attempted to order the carrot cake, at the cheesecake factory, at got side eyed), whisky & ginger, and steak diane. claims his mama makes steak better BUT whatev he enjoys his meal in his own disgruntled way

MINGUS, on the other hand, is VIGILANT throughout. she forgot it was norms birthday (& of course would never admit this), and was the one to offer to take him out and pay for everyone. just as powerplay. she sits across from norm, on the edge of her seat just WAITING to call over the waiter for the check. she orders the miso salmon, a red sangria, and 30th anniversary chocolate cake

i hate this thing. it cant read the 9 pages of menu, obviously, so the narrator is thumbing through for it and as SOON as he mentions this "impossible burger", gingi immediately gets an idea in its head that itll break the system & give it money BACK. refuses to eat it in fear of "damaging the goods" and also gets a ... bowl of vanilla ice cream

karen orders: louisiana chicken pasta, a strawberry infused margarita, and fresh strawberry. it just makes sense to have your drink & dessert match! she doesnt eat all of her meal & spends most of it tossing little pasta bits at gingi to watch it snap at it. otherwise Normal Sensible Dinner

oliver on the contrary, orders based off name alone. Chicken Parmesan "Pizza Style", the Well-Mannered Dirty Martini, and Adam's Peanut Butter Cup Fudge Ripple. he has to squash his disappointment when the waiter comes around and hands him his dessert without calling it by its full title

randy ATTEMPTS to get a kids meal, feeling weird about the bill all being on mingus' tab & he isnt around her much, so how would he repay her? just COMPLETELY overthinking it. so he doesnt have a backup for when he doesnt pass as 12 & is told he cant order that. so he PANICS and lands on something random... the loaded mashed potato omelette. okay. same with the coconut cream. he orders NO drink - instead, he gets water, and the waiter passes over him & he gets NO refills. (he goes to the bathroom sink when thirsty)

i like to think jerry gets invited to norms birthday dinner! he orders the cuban sandwich (pickles & all!), espresso martini, and pineapple upside-down cheesecake. it just fits

i WILL not accept constructive criticism, btw
