Side Note: Nursery Rhymes being adapted is more for Shrek. So they won’t be here- sorry about that. But they do a good job at it. This anthology is meant for readers 12 and up, due to some of the themes in some of the stories.

Do you have any patronus headcanons (if they were able to cast them) for the Black family + in laws?

These are all soft headcanons by the way, I am very much open to debate on the matter (especially since with the exception of Sirius, who hated the Dark Arts, these people wouldn’t actually be able to cast Patronus Charms which is really fucking stupid imo but whatever, it’s the canon)

Sirius: we know this already, it’s a black dog

Reggie: I am a sucker for those headcanons where Sirius inadvertently finds out that Reggie’s Patronus is a black dog, so definitely that. But on the other hand, I also love black cat Patronus headcanons for Regulus: sleek, quiet, intelligent, extremely magical creatures. So wrapped up in magic as an animal that it would be befitting of a pureblood heir. And it fits his personality perfectly. This art of the Black brothers on this very topic by @likeprongstostars made me emotional, now all of you have to see it. You're welcome.

Walburga: no clue. I want to say something like a big cat, like a panther or something of the sort, but maybe also a manta ray. They’re absolutely huge, imposing creatures, but so beautiful and territorial as fuck. This is my main requirement for Walburga’s Patronus: seeing her reaction to the filth infesting 12 Grimmauld Place makes me think of an animal marking their territory.

Orion: again, no clue. But if I had to pick one probably a crow. Intelligent creatures, loyal, vicious when needed (they can quite literally take your eye out, I can see Orion doing that Kaz Brekker style to someone), but also an omen of death. And to me, the man is a glum sort. I’m sorry but I cannot help but see him a bit like the spectre of the feast (in Italian, literally ‘uccellaccio del malaugurio’, if you know, you know).

Bellatrix: Now. I am convinced that her Patronus is a black swan. This is admittedly not my theory, credit goes to a YT channel called Harry Potter Folklore, but to me, it fits perfectly. First of all, it's a nudge to her father's name, Cygnus (literally ‘swan’), and her loyalty to her family. Secondly, they are elegant, beautiful creatures, extremely faithful and who mate for life, which fits her extreme devotion to the Dark Lord. Black swans specifically are also rare in nature and can symbolize death in some cultures. It's Bella.

Based on this, I'll say that Andromeda and Narcissa's original Patroni were also swans (of the white kind - not that it matters for an actual Patronus since it's made of light, but the distinction is important to me). Both of theirs changed with their respective partners. Andromeda's became a Jack Rabbit (which I headcanon was Ted's: it was also Nymphadora's first Patronus). Narcissa's became the same as her husbands'. Bella was always the most loyal to her family and her sisters and hers stays the same until she dies, fucking fight me.

Lucius: I know you all expect me to say a peacock (and I can see it: territorial, the literal embodiment of vanity, elaborate mating ritual... and you just know Lucius did all of that with Cissy - huge sparkling diamond necklaces and whatnot) but I can also see it being a greyhound - elegant, dogs associated with the nobility, who also represent resilience, and most of all hunting dogs.

Rodolphus: a wolf. My man is wolf-coded, no I will not elaborate. But it's a wolf 100%, just trust me. Also, Rabastan's is a red fox. Non-negotiable.

2.2 Penacony thoughts [part 4]

**Spoiler warning** as we are nearing the very end of the story. Discussing on everything that happens once we wake up after the first boss fight until right before we enter the Horizon of Existence with Acheron. Do look away if you haven’t reached that place yet.

Here I am, wandering around reality all confused, and yet the game still has the audacity to make jokes!

I thought Boothill was just being silly, but if Dan Heng also forgot, then it must be serious. Then I remembered there was one occasion last patch where we also forgot about Acheron’s name when talking to Welt. Or Himeko. I don’t recall which parent it was but we were near Clockie’s statue at the time.

So I saw Ratio, Topaz and Aventurine chatting with each other from afar and thought nothing of it, only to finally realize after our beloved gambler greeted us that YES it has indeed been a while because he was SUPPOSEDLY DEAD and he CLEARLY ISN’T ANYMORE, THANK GOD! I believed he was gonna be fine, thanks to Ratio’s advice and the fact Aventurine stated he wasn’t going to join his family yet, but then hearing Topaz’s call with Jade and how the Aventurine Cornerstone lost its light made me doubt his status just a little bit, but overall I’m so happy to see our man alive and well. I just wish.. it happened differently? I was expecting this grand reunion cutscene after his death-defying performance and he just.. shows up in the hotel with a completely normal interaction.

That is a whole lotta words, honey, but good for you I guess?

… Pardon me? No. Surely not. We still have a whole other patch to get through after this, Welt! Needless to say, at this point in the story, confusion was at an all time high and Penacony’s story was beginning to lose its luster for me because the “ending” didn’t feel like a true conclusion.

Despite the unsatisfying feeling, we indeed arrive back on the Express. It has been a long while since we had a good adventure with our fellow Nameless. I hope he can join us fully in the next planet. Surely he would keep us from getting in trouble.

I feel like this comment isn’t only because we’re the main character, but also because as the player, we were able to view different people’s perspectives aside from the Trailblazer’s.

I can’t believe they actually had credits rolling. It’s giving Argenti trailer flashbacks and they’re really making it seem like this is the end of Penacony. Worth noting that March and Acheron’s real names aren’t listed while Welt and Aventurine’s are.

What the fuck do you mean?? For real though, hearing this after having one of the easiest boss fights of my life is a bit reassuring because I just knew something wasn’t quite right about all this!

Black Swan then retells the whole journey to us, from start to finish while asking us to pick out the one flaw in the whole story, which just so happens to be us running into Misha in the hotel’s lobby. He’s a major flaw that contradicts all other information in the story because that moment shouldn’t have been real. As for much recent occurrences, they don’t appear to be reality either because.. we have yet to actually wake up.

Still within the dream, we experience some deja vu because isn’t this exactly what Acheron says to us the very first time we meet her in 2.0?

Well aren’t you just a splendid little cheat code. No wonder the “Dreammaster” wanted to kick you out of Penacony.

So because we able to realize that seeing Misha in reality was an illusion, we were spared from being trapped like so many other residents of Penacony. I’m honestly surprised how many twists and turns this story can keep introducing to us when we’re so close to the story’s ending, but it’s impressive.

Robin realized there was a flaw in her dream too, which just so happened to be the flashback of her and Sunday finding the injury bird. Apparently that illusion was too blissful to be true? Wild.

We then found out that this fancy little bullet is the relic that Acheron had to return to its rightful owner.

Posing as a Galaxy Ranger to get a real one’s attention so they (Boothill) can properly use the relic in the next stage of the plan is a surprising move from Acheron. Who knew she could play 3d chess.

Firefly deserves some credit too, naturally, since it’s due to her that everyone was able to find us and understand the key to breaking free of this endless dream. By following Elio’s script, one is bound to have a knack of planning ahead and carrying out perfectly timed moves.

The end of Penacony is near but the fact it might actually come at the cost of that precious girl’s life ain’t bringing me much joy!

There’s another person on here who’s recording a bunch of reread details on Aouv rn (you probably know who you are, hi lol) so I thought I’d also draft some of my own thoughts up about it 👌

So here’s some All of Us Villains details :)

I like how in chapter 12 of Aood when Finley and Briony visit the Blair’s, and Finley says that their family uses their code to justify slaughtering people they care about, Abigail immediately assumes Finley is talking about Briony, because she doesn’t even consider sending her OWN son off to a death tournament as slaughter. To her, it really is an honor to go and die for your family, even though it’s taken the lives of countless of her ancestors and likely would have Finley, if the tournament had played out as usual- most certainly Gracie or Ava if one of them had been the volunteer.

But instead she’s just like “dude kill your girlfriend it’s not that big of a deal”

But seriously she’s so delusional- the Lowe’s win every 2 out of 3 tournaments and it seems like the second most likely winners have historically been Thorburns. Like Finley had such a small chance of survival, but when he volunteered, her reaction was probably just to be proud of him.

These seven families are so mf delicious.

This one’s a bit obvious, but the Full Moon Child story that Alistair commandeers from ML.Jr in chapter 11 of Aood is literally just about himself lmao. You can go back and read it and it’s like “Don’t deny who you are because then your brothers gonna die ooooo 👻”

I love when these books do foreshadowing lol- there’s this moment in the first book where a succulent plant or something casts a spiky shadow in Reid’s face 😭

In Aood- the little blurb from the news at beginning of each chapter usually pertains to whichever pov you’re on, but the news covers Gavin so little, that his blurbs are usually about Alistair or the Lowe’s, because the average person probably just thinks of Gavin as an ad on to that crew. He’s just the Lowe’s sidekick lmao.

Isobel and Alistair have remarkably similar thoughts, feelings and circumstances in aood. One example is how they are both the most loved AND hated member of their respective alliances. Isobel is sent a trick spellstone that paints the world ‘cunt’ in sores on her arm (holy shit you guys she’s a fucking seventeen year old get a grip oh my god) while Gavin sights the curse stones they receive along side the fan mail as “usually targeting Alistair.” Whilst on the flip side, Isobel is the most famous champion and covered the most in the news, while Alistair has a dedicated fan club, who asks him to record sexy voice messages for them and draw him shirtless.

Man, fame sucks.

He literally doesn’t say the guys name the entire second (and longer) book lmao.

Y’all WHAT HAPPENS TO THE LOWE SPOUSES? I know Alistair makes a joke that his mom ate his dad like a praying mantis, but fr- what happened to Moira’s husband and Rowan’s wife??? They were totally probably murdered right??? Rowan’s wife is actually never mentioned, but I’m assuming sombody gave birth to Marianne jr.

Also Alistair and Hendrys dad doesn’t have a canonical name- just thought that was interesting. Probably because it was a little…. “On theme” with the other Lowe names of you catch my drift 😬

I would’ve been in full support of Alistair and Hendry having long faces and genetic defects- but oh welll, I suppose they had to be hot.

That theory’s not even canon anyway- but how does your whole family line have dark curly hair, widows peaks and gray eyes for 400 years straight lmao. a) They are hurt and going with what is familiar to them

b) They will be chaotic af about it

Agent of chaos aligning with Order can you picture that

They're bffs with figures that uphold the status quo, to varying degrees of how much power they actually have in the grand scheme of things (Cucurucho and Apple)

Isolation is a big theme in the Sleeping Beauty story, and that resonates a lot with Jaiden's arc and how she got close to Cucurucho at her lowest point vs how Briar tries to stay loyal to the Royals even when it hurts her and her closest friends, because Apple is her bestie and was always there for her

Honestly, this part is a little hard, but I like to interpret it as Brant's denial. He gets angry at Jolie for not joining, for not trusting him. In his anger, he kills her. So, to cope, he tries to convince himself that she wasn't all that. That she was wrong about everything. She died because of her own foolishness. It wasn't his fault...

Brant sanity has cracked under the guilt and he now lives alone. He imagines that Jolie is still alive and what life would be like if she was. What it would be like if she'd never found out he was with the Neverseen. He imagines it as if it's reality and it's the only thing keeping him from fully breaking.

Brant knows he's pushing his luck with Grady and Edaline taking care of him. He's thankful they don't know he's the one who killed their daughter, because if they did, he knows they'd kill him.

As sick as it sounds, he loved the Neverseen first. He was committed. He fully believed in the cause, but it was the best and worst at the same time. Because of the Neverseen, he lost Jolie.

I stare at the crash, it actually works"

Now Brant has one foot in denial and the other in acceptance. He tries to ignore it. When that doesn't work, he laughs about it. Tries to seem heartless, like Jolie's death didn't affect him at all.

But it doesn't work. He loved her. Her death did affect him. The guilt never lets go, never ends.

Brant's sanity is crumbling. He's grown reckless from the guilt, the devastation of Jolie's death. She haunts him. Nothing matters anymore.

But this still isn't about him. Brant might've killed Jolie in the fire, but you know what? It wasn't his fault.

It was the council. Society.

If it wasn't for them, pyrokinesis wouldn't have been banned. Brant and Jolie wouldn't have been a bad match. So many other things wouldn't have happened, and the Neverseen wouldn't even exist. He loves Jolie and he knows that she doesn't agree with the Neverseen and their methods, but this isn't about him. It's about them. I love you, but there's so much hurt. I love you, but it's not my fault. I love you, but I am going to end this. I love you, I'm sorry.

I remember what Sophie said, once: "Everyone loved Jolie, even the person who killed her." And it's such a haunting quote.

If you take into consideration what Brant stood for, he should've hated her. Jolie represented the golden ideals of a society he hated.

But he still loved her.

That didn't stop the flames. She was dead, it was his fault, but he loved her.

AHHHH I CAN'T THE TRAGEDY OF IT ALL IS JUST SO–

I really, really, really don’t want another Pirates of the Caribbean movie that has anything at all to really do with the original characters. But it’s such a shame to just....throw out that universe, that Disney must not think anyone cares about it outside of D*pp (hi, even before all that, they knew that Jack wasn’t enough, and they built up a ton of hype and begged Knightly to come back, they knew.)

I think I’ve said it here a few times before, but it’s such a rich story world--even with as little detail as we get, it’s a great backdrop for more stories and characters.

Origin stories for any member of the Brethren Court, “Morgan and Bartholomew” writing down the Code, any historical pirate cold be given a fictional do-over, there are so many ways that this could go, so many characters. Literally, it’d take nothing, not even a passion mention of the original films to make one, especially coming up on the (HOW. HOW IS TIME.) twentieth anniversary of the first one. Hell, that’s about when (before the mega-franchise trend) movies would start getting a reboot/nostalgia bait spin off anyway.

I’ve joked about how even if the new one was bad we’d still get Margot Robbie in a pirate costume out of the deal, but like...we were still also going to get a big budget golden age of piracy film out of it too.

I’m kind of hoping that with the relative success of Our Flag Means Death we’ll see Disney opt to refresh the project or reorganize, or another studio take a shot at a pirate movie. I know it’s because of the mouse, but aside from the Pirates franchise we....haven’t gotten anything in that genre. It used to be popular! Captain Blood, Blackbeard The Pirate, Treasure Island, The Black Swan....There’s so many stories, so many places, and I terribly want to see a semi-accurrate Anne Bonny bio-pic one day.

Fingers crossed studios were avoiding it because of Disney, but it’d be great to get a story from another studio/production company.

On Friday, with the world reeling from the tragic death of Tyre Nichols and the release of the traumatizing body cam footage, this sack of bad takes who masquerades as a human being went on Tucker Carlson Tonight and blamed single Black mothers for the violence inflicted on Nichols.

“There is a racial element. And this is a story about young Black men and their inability to treat each other in a humane way,” Whitlock said. “Everybody involved in this on the street level was either 24 to 32 years old. Everybody. It was a group of young Black men, five-on-one. Looked like gang violence to me.”

“It looked like what young Black men do when they’re supervised by a single Black woman,” he continued.

I’m sorry, what!? 

The pattern of police violence against the Black community has been well documented and discussed for decades. The responsibility for what happened to Tyre Nichols falls on the officers who killed him and the system that let them think they could just because they wear a badge. It has absolutely nothing to do with the powerful Black women who have been holding this community together through every heartbreaking instance of police brutality. It is definitely not on the women who put their own emotions on the back burner to care for everyone else. As if his words weren’t offensive enough, Whitlock thought he’d go ahead and drop some misogynistic insults alongside his BS insights on race, attacking the leadership of Memphis Police Chief Cerelyn Davis.

“And that’s what they got going on in the Memphis Police Department,” he said. “They’ve elected some, or put some Black woman in charge of the police force, and we are getting the same kind of chaos and disunity and violence that we see in a lot of these cities run by single mothers.”

So Jason Whitlock is saying that women aren’t capable of holding leadership positions in law enforcement and government? Well on behalf of Black women, we think you’re not capable of being a decent human being.

As you would expect, his comments were met with the appropriate amount of shame and criticism. Singer/actress Ciara took Whitlock to task for saying something so vile as Tyre’s mother was mourning the loss of her son.

“.@WhitlockJason As a black man to get on national tv and say something like this is irresponsible,” she tweeted. “A lot of amazing kids have come from single mothers. For you to also undermine single black women in the midst of this tragedy is so sad. This woman just lost her son! Do better!”

I wish there was a chance that someone like Whitlock could do better, but he clearly made his choice about which side he wants to be on and it’s not supporting Black people. Other social media users pointed out that he doesn’t seem to keep the same energy when white criminals commit violent crimes.

“White boys go into churches, supermarkets, schools, malls, and nightclubs, and violently murder innocent people,” Bishop Talbert Swan tweeted. “Jason Whitlock never blamed white women for this.”

Black politicians also let him know that their mothers are the reason for their success.

“Legitimately the worst take anyone could possibly have,” Oklahoma State Representative Monroe Nichols tweeted. “I was raised by a single black mother, I came to Oklahoma knowing not one soul and today I am a member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives because of that single black mother. So Jason Whitlock, STFU.”

New York congressman Jamaal Bowman added: “Hey @WhitlockJason, I was raised by a single Black mother, I’m now the first Black man to hold this congressional seat in US history. I also have a doctorate in education leadership and was principal of one of the top middle schools in the Bronx. What have you done?”

Under normal circumstances Jason Whitlock is not worth my time. But when you denigrate and insult Black mothers like this, you need to be recognized as the uninformed, reckless, attention-seeking ass that you are.

If you like crime dramas and stories where they solve mysterious cases then this is for you. The romance is subtle, and their relationship is not insta-love. strangers to colleagues to friends to lovers trope. This also discusses alot of issues the society has that will make you stop and think. Ba Song is really the honorable MC in here who always wants to help people and do good. While Bo Shan is the reluctant one but deep inside, he wants to make a difference too. I wish they would make a donghua or live action out of this.

• 30 year old by S-Monkey - ( ongoing, age difference, blind dates, slice of life)

Charlie Wei is a single and handsome executive. He’s also a closeted gay guy who’s been on way too many bad blind dates with women. Charlie’s still hung up on his ex-boyfriend James and is… gasp, 30! Charlie’s family thinks he’s straight and too old to be without a wife! During another bad blind date, Charlie meets the flirty Ethan, who both annoys and intrigues him. Can Charlie finally come out and find true love with Ethan or will he continue on his streak of bad blind dates?

The cover looks melodramatic but it’s really not. This is so funny! I read this because people were saying it reminded them of BoXiao. And yes, there are moments here that remind me of them, but it’s more like an AU of BoXiao. I stayed up late trying to get caught up in the chapters and you won’t realize it cause it’s just that good. I love seeing the older MC loosening up and being more of himself. and the younger one being more responsible in his career. They just become better versions of themselves because of each other. It’s so sweet!

• I ship me and my Rival - by Pepa ( ongoing, comedy, reads like a meta )

This follows the adventures of Wei Yanzi, a third-rate actor in the Chinese entertainment industry, stumbles onto a shipping fandom for himself and another actor (Gu Yiliang) while trying to escape from the flame wars and negativity. He's so taken with this group of fans who actually see him as a good guy instead of an enemy/rival of Gu Yiliang that he falls head-first into fandom and becomes actively involved in trying to provide shipping fuel and the fans' daily dose of fluff.

IF THERE IS ONE thing you will read here, let it be this. It is hilarious. If you are a CP fan you will relate so much and it’s a good time. It just shows how people who think are rivals can actually be really good friends in real life. What we see is not always what it seems. and people will interpret things based on their bias. The MC here is so dramatic! how his inner feelings/reactions were drawn will make you laugh.

• Path to You - by Sinran (completed, slice of life, age gap fluff and comedy )

When almost college dropout Jensen attempts to drink away his problems, unemployed Nathaniel suddenly pukes on him and ruins his night. As an apology, Nathaniel offers to help Jensen with his studies. Despite Jensen's difficulties in getting along with people, the two become friends and something deeper begins to grow between them

The story is so soft. If you want something with mild angst/misunderstandings— then pick this. I love the progression of their relationship and how they take care of each other. There are other themes showed here other than the romance.

• Red Candy - by Hanse (completed season one with a cliffhanger, explicit scenes, assassins )

Shihyeon, aka “Red Candy,” is a secret agent whose code name comes from bathing in the blood of his marks on dangerous missions. Shihyeon’s tasked with seducing and obtaining intel from Hajun, a hot college professor. Shihyeon can disarm enemies, but didn’t expect to be disarmed himself by Hajun’s own tight body. Now Shihyeon’s caught between loyalty to his spy agency and Hajun. Can Red Candy survive the incoming wave of enemies and still indulge in the sweet ecstasy of Hajun’s embrace?

THIS STRESSED ME OUT MAAAN. Wow. I loved this. That season one cliffhanger. It’s definitely up there as my favorite. If you think about it, the tropes are really not original. An assassin is sent to shadow a person and they develop a relationship. That simple. But NOOOOO! There are so many things going on. The Main mystery plot, Their relationship, their shared past plus you have other sketchy secondary characters. And did i mention explicit scenes? Lots of them. I want this two to have a happy ending!!!

• Lone Swan - by Chu Man (discontinued, cultivation, star crossed lovers)

After losing his memory, Yiqiu Shen, a disciple from the decent sect meets a very special man named Luofeng Yan, who is the leader of the evil Divine Wind Cult. When escaping and conflicting with Yan, Shen gradually finds his original self as well as his previous love back. Together they rip off the facade of the martial world and reveal the hidden true

I didn’t want to add a discontinued story here, with no novel as a source material but this one made an impact on me. so. yeah. THE ART. breathtaking. The plot = layered. There are times I don’t even know who is telling the truth. It had so much potential and i hope it will get picked up again at some point. People rec this to those who enjoyed TGCF and MDZS, and they are right. 👍🏼

• Dragon in Distress by Si Wang Wen Hua - ( ongoing, dragons, past life, lost power, fantasy )

This is a story about a little Eastern green dragon and a little Western black dragon playing together.

The synopsis is pretty simple if you look at it but this one is pretty interesting. and surprisingly funny. tinie AoAo is so cute! 🤍 the other MC has tsundere tendencies tho. Lots of lore and more truths to uncover as the story progresses. I’m not giving it enough justice with how i’m reccing it, but if you like dragons and fantasy — give this a go.

• Breaking through the clouds 2: Swallow the Sea - Huaishang (ongoing, based on a novel, crime, drama, cases)

Wu Yu, a newcomer of the Public Security Bureau, is gentle and frail. He doesn’t care about the difficulties posed by Bu ZhongHua, his strict boss, and only wants to stay in the background to be paid on time with enough for food. However, no one knows that this young man’s head is targeted by top drug traffickers for a large bounty or that this courageous young man has once slaughtered the dragon of the abyss. With a chain of interlocking cases, a series of troubles come one after another. Can the two people work together to survive through the difficulties?

Do you see a pattern with me? lol. I like crime themes. This one is the same and by the looks of it, the cases they solve will take longer to unravel. I haven’t read the novel it’s based on yet so i’m just going with how the manhua is progressing. I like it when Wu Yu turns full on action-mode and when ZH takes care of him. Plus it helps that they are both gorgeous. I’ll get back this with a proper link.

• Where the Wind Stays - by Yusa (completed season one, curses, demons, possession, timeskip, explicit scenes)

To break an ancient curse that plagues the royal bloodline, young Prince Tasara is destined to be sacrificed in death. Nara is enlisted as a palace servant to carry out the prince’s execution when the time comes. But he develops a soft spot for the cursed prince, and after committing an atrocious and unforgivable act against Tasara, Nara is desperate to right his wrongs. Soon, their lascivious relationship that had been kept under wraps tests his resolve. Will Nara be tempted away from his original mission? There’s no telling how far he would go to earn Tasara’s forgiveness.

This story broke my brain, in a good way. I don’t wanna say much cause it will spoil the story. It’s the type that you gave to see and suffer through yourself. I am excited for what happens in season II!!!

OK three day to Yvette S6 EP1,Let's talk about another MC I like :

MC(Havenfall is for Lovers)

2)Who she is?

The eldest daughter of MC unnamed parents and the older sister of Grace.MC has lived in the small town of Havenfall, Indiana all her life. Her parents died when she was younger(theywere killed due to their work for Code Black), leaving her to care for her sister Grace(alongside her grandmother before her death). She is very protective of Grace(All the villains found out that IN THE HARD WAY), and has worked hard and made sacrifices to ensure Grace's well being(regardless of the route you choice she say she will go to the university or given up for Grace and she regret nothing). She works for Razi at the bowling alley, alongside her coworker JD. She struggles to make ends meet, but earns enough to get by. In her free time she loves to watch documentaries and snark about well everything!😏

3)She relatable about the need to protect and take care of her loved one(when she cried in Razi route about grace on ep2 s1 I cried too) and she uses snark at least in part as a coping mechanism to deal with her dissatisfaction with her circumstances and with being out of her depth. Since she's very frequently out of her depth once the supernatural side Havenfall starts intruding into her life, her narration and inner monologue provide a steady stream of snark and self-deprecation,don't worry MC you soon get used to it.

4)She quickly get past the surprise and doesn't care if you're a long lived supercrazy being you're still you you for her(again with Razi and Mackenzie) and her relationship with her LI is always an equal one(as it should be).

Is Zitan... becoming a somewhat competent ruler at long last? I know, it sounds absolutely crazy, but bear with me!

To be honest, I was expecting some prime passive-aggressive behaviour from our Master of Mope, even when three layers deep in Ningshuo soldiers. Not like self-preservation ever was a factor with that guy, right? But no. Zitan has a plan! One that could have plausibly come from Prime Minister Wen. It does seem rather in line with his earlier advice on how to deal with this Xiao Qi problem. But even so, Zitan puts a special Zitan spin on this whole mourning ceremony! You’ll see.

Zitan goes through all the appropriate steps without any incident, all while under watchful eyes of judge, jury and executioner Xiao Qi, Hu Yao and Tang Jing. There is not much one can find fault in, really. Perhaps his movements are somewhat perfunctory and curiously lacking in true imperial dignity, but it’s not like that’s a criminal offense, right? The really interesting part starts once the official ceremony is done.

Zitan gets up, very purposefully checks out Xiao Qi’s reaction and only then turns around to the crowd in order to deliver a truly brilliant piece of political maneuvering. Namely, a speech. And not just any speech, no! A Noble and Glorious Speech as befits a Noble and Glorious Emperor.

Somewhere between checking Xiao Qi out and his first word Zitan found a shred of actual human emotion in his emo heart! Must have been buried beneath the usual contents of Awu-Awu-Awu, petty maliciousness and flute scores. Or... he’s just acting. You pick!

Ah, yes, the speech. Zitan addresses Ningshuo soldiers and only Ningshuo soldiers, throws in a bit of flattery and stresses that they are Prince Yuzhang’s beloved officers, which may be a dig at Xiao Qi’s emotional investment... or a prelude to taking over the narrative. Because the next thing that comes out of his lying mouth is that they are also his beloved officers. And once he’s sunk his teeth into the narrative, by gods, he’s going to run away with it!

Nigshuo guys are so awesome and they have suffered so much for this country! And now - for some truly mysterious reason! - they were betrayed and led to slaughter! But never worry, Zitan will right this great injustice. He would be unworthy of their respect if he didn’t! But he will! So he is! And he’s amazing, really, they should know that by know. Since, you know, no Emperor has ever held a ceremony for dead soldiers. And the court was not all that happy with the idea, so isn’t Zitan doubly amazing for doing it anyway? But it’s the right thing to do and from this day forward it’s going to be the new black. He, Zitan, says so!

Yeah, okay, I’m paraphrasing, but you get the gist. Somehow he even manages to sound halfway convincing... although not convincing enough for his ministers.

Gu Himbo is WTFing, Prime Minister Wen is pretending he’s somewhere far away (which I don’t blame him for) and the guy in the middle, well, I do believe he’s hella amused.

Then Zitan turns back to Xiao Qi, still all afire and in crocodile tears... and actually bows. Just a little, but. And then he swans away, leaving Xiao Qi absolutely stumped.

Well, Xiao Qi really is stumped. I don’t think the poor dear can properly compute; wasn’t he forced to practically drag Zitan here on swordpoint? But the problem lies elsewhere: Zitan’s performance was really not that bad and to somebody unused to his usual brand of Zitanness, it could go over as quite sincere. Hu Yao, for one, is pretty moved by this speech.

It’s not that Xiao Qi is unable to comprehend that people lie. It’s that Zitan’s audacity is truly staggering, enough for it to cause some serious doubt. I mean, what is more probable? That Xiao Qi is missing some piece of the puzzle or that Zitan would feel no compunction whatsoever about mourning his victims and demanding justice for them with actual tears in his eyes? Okay, stupid question. But really, to Xiao Qi Zitan might as well be an actual alien, that’s how much difference there is between their respective moral codes. Also, it’s not like Xiao Qi is capable of much logical reasoning at that moment, due to his own grief.

And oh, does he grieve. He needs to take a moment to compose himself, but before he does...

I don’t even need to mention that we get flashbacks galore, do I? And a very neat counterbalance to what is, in its essence, a political occasion, even if for Xiao Qi and his men it may not be so; at the very same moment that the official ceremony is taking place, Awu conducts her own private one.

And she, unlike Zitan, has no reason to play up her grief for an audience since she has none; the only people present are Auntie Xu (acting as Awu’s support?) and the Yuzhang Housekeeper, whose son died under Xiao Qi’s command. This act of mourning is not done for the benefit of anybody, even Awu’s husband; it is a matter solely between her and those fallen men. And I’m going to beat this metaphor to death, but the juxtaposition between those two very different mourning ceremonies shows once again Awu and Xiao Qi taking their respective roles as Mother and Father. Xiao Qi is out there, fighting for justice and reputation, while Awu stays close to home, taking care of souls. Sorry, I just think it’s really neat...?
